Quincy/Hull Fishing Report
INSHORE – Saltwater angling has all but wrapped up in Massachusetts. There will still be some small holdover Bass (Bass, Striped) in canals and rivers. Some areas on the west of Cape Cod Bay will see decent amount of Herring throughout the winter. Early winter still provides some Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) opportunities for recreational angling. The state has some really good freshwater fishing in the ponds and lakes. Stay tuned for new in-app Freshwater hot spots to get you through the offseason till everything fires back up in the spring. Have a great winter and stay safe.

Quincy/Hull Fishing Report
INSHORE – A migration of small Bass (Bass, Striped) are moving from Scituate to Green Harbor to Duxbury Bay. Look for the birds to find them. There is still a week of October and early November to have some blitz like activity from Hull to the North river. As far as keeper size Bass, the numbers have not been bad considering there are not many boats left in the water and the shore angler numbers have dropped considerably. Eels and plugs have been the ticket at night, and Pogie heads from the surf during daytime hours. Some of the heaviest bass taken in Massachusetts have been caught in early November, so keep that in mind if you are thinking about putting the gear away. Bluefish are mostly done. Cod (Cod, Atlantic) is now restricted to state waters, one fish 19 inches, should be a couple good months of Cod fishing. Head out to the 3 mile mark in roughly 60-70 ft of water to find them. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!
OFFSHORE – Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) fishing has been pretty good since Columbus day, the bank has given up lots of fish 70 pounds and up. Most are caught on live Mackerel (Mackerel, Atlantic). Breaking Tuna have been spotted as close as Stone ledge, there have been some taken on spinning rods with jigs, but live bait still prevails. The bite will slow down in the next few weeks. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!
BAIT REPORT – Not much news on Smelt. Anglers are beginning to fish for them. Not a lot of pressure has been put on the Smelt in Scituate harbor, Hingham and Hull has some numbers.

Quincy/Hull Fishing Report
INSHORE – Great seven days since I reported last. The shore anglers are finally getting paid off after putting in long hours all season.Surfcasters have had some beautiful Bass (Bass, Striped) up to 40 pounds while fishing during nighttime hours. Eels have been doing the job, dark swimmers, bottle, plugs and needlefish also produce. Many different beaches and rock piles have held fish since the mini storm a few weeks ago, pretty much any beach from Hull to fourth cliff that has some good structure. Massive Bluefish blitzes Saturday morning at the Glades, Peggotty beach, and Green Harbor beach, I was saying all week I could not believe the lack of Blues with the water temp and all the bait we had around, well they came in hard overnight Friday with the northeast wind. Pogies flowed out of Boston harbor that night and ended up on the south shore. Big Blues 11-13 pounds, real tackle busters. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!
OFFSHORE – A bit breezy lately to get offshore to target Bluefin (Tuna, Bluefin), there are big and little ones at the bank for sure. If we get the weather Tuna fishing in October will be great. Most fish caught on live bait. Cod fishing (Cod, Atlantic) outside is open until Friday. And some nice 28 inch Cod live at Stone Ledge right now, after Friday back to state waters for Cod retention. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

INSHORE – Bass (Bass, Striped) fishing is getting good as multiple 20 pound plus fish have been taken at the cliffs and from Egypt to Minot, tube and worm is really taking hold. There are some Mackerel (Mackerel, Atlantic) around. Bluefish are disappointing, some around but nothing like this time last year, hopeful for Labor Day. Cod (Cod, Atlantic) holding on quite nicely, 80 feet of water. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!
OFFSHORE – A few Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) around, most are over 75 inches, but there have been a few taken in the 50-55 inch range both trolling and on live Mackerel. Focus on areas that are holding the masses of tinker Mackerel, off sand hills and Egypt beach has been one of those areas. Winter Flounder (Flounder, Winter) remains solid off peggotty beach,Scituate harbor also holds good numbers of keeper flounder also.,get em while you can, July usually proves to be tough. Codfish in state waters is good, federal water opens August 1. Keepers are caught around the NE whistle Buoy.
OFFSHORE – Bluefin Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) have been scattered and spread out, plenty of bait on the bank so it should go off. One hundred pounders have been reported crashing on bait on a couple occasions, the tuna just are not sticking around.

INSHORE – No shortage of Mackerel (Mackerel, Atlantic) this week a little scattered on Thursday but loaded all other days. Bass (Bass, Striped) fishing still not the best on your inshore ledge, most quality Bass have been caught at least one half mile off the shore. There have been some nice explosions at the mouth of the North River, these have been small fish up to 24 inches, with a small keeper thrown in. Both Flounder (Flounder, Winter & Flounder, Summer (Fluke)) in the harbor and inshore Codfish (Cod, Atlantic) are holding up nicely. Massive amounts of spike Mackerel in Mass Bay should bring on a healthy dose of gamefish, whether it is Bass, Bluefish, or Bluefin (Tuna, Bluefin) is the question. It looks really good out there, keep fishing outside and we hope something really good will occur.

Quincy/Hull Fishing Report
INSHORE – Boston Harbor fishing has been very solid so far this season. The light tackle anglers are out there every morning finding the surface feeding schools of mid 20 inch sized Striped Bass (Bass, Striped). Several keeper sized fish are mixed in busting on the surface, and over the last 7-10 days we are starting to pull fish out from beneath the blitzes up to 42 inches and 30 plus pounds. The fish are moving pretty quickly on the surface so patience is key over the run and gun technique. As the weather continues to improve more and more boats are out there every day and you’ll be fighting the crowds. Make an effort to get within range of the busting fish when you can, but if they seem gone by the time you get there hold your spot and don’t be afraid to drop down below the boat and jig a bit while you wait for them to reappear. Over the past few weeks just as many fish have been caught using this technique as when you make that perfect cast into the blitz – this is also when you have a good chance to hook up with those big bass that are feeding down below the action. Herring is the predominant bait right now in the Boston Harbor – both small and large in size – using soft plastics in the 4-7 inch range will produce fish, I like them rigged on a 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2 ounce jig head depending on how much water movement there is based on the wind and tide. Be sure to practice catch and release fishing.

INSHORE – The edge of the state water mark has been the best area to find the largest Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) in our area. Fish pushing 30 pounds have been taken in the deeper water on live Mackerel. The number two areas is the North River, look for keepers there for a couple more weeks. Look for the inshore areas along the beaches to improve as the new shell lobsters move in. Winter Flounder (Flounder, Winter) remains steady on the beaches and in the harbors, a few blackbacks pushing 4 pounds have been caught in and around Scituate harbor. The tinker mackerel have moved in along with the harbor Pollock, look for the Bass fishing to be the best of the season a couple days after first big push through Cape Cod canal. You can grab one cod in state waters over 19 inches, this has been decent east of Minot.
OFFSHORE – Haddock remains healthy all over Stellwagen Bank, small teasers tipped with clam or Mackerel is all you need. 90 inch BFT (Tuna, Bluefin) have been trolled at Crab Ledge Chatham, Mass Bay awaits any size Tuna that wants to visit there.

INSHORE – Inshore Cod (Cod, Atlantic) is good try to skirt the three mile mark out in front of North River, you can keep one Cod 19 inches here. Good inshore Flounder [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] areas are off Peggotty and Egypt beaches, about 20 feet of water. Green Harbor, Scituate harbor, and Cohasset harbor also have good numbers of Winter Flounder, the best fish have been 18 inches about 3 pounds. North river remains most productive place for Bass (Bass, Striped), fish any where from ten to forty inches taken here, soft plastics have worked well!
OFFSHORE – Stellwagen bank is still loaded with Cod (Cod, Atlantic) and Haddock, you cannot keep a Cod out there until August 1. Middle bank out to the eastern middle age has been productive for the Haddock (15 fish 17 inches per person.) Plenty of Mackerel (Mackerel, Atlantic) out on the bank also, mostly on surface or just under. The Mackerel in front of Scituate and Cohasset are not as thick but are catchable. Large Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) do lurk under the macs, a few in the 40 inch range have been caught at the scituate bell. Fishing the deeper water the first half of June st.always produces Hogs (Hogfish).

INSHORE – Fishing is on fire this week! It’s the best bite in years. The rivers, beaches and cliffs are loaded with Stripers. SP Minnows and 1 oz Pencil Poppers are working well to hook them. Flounder (Flounder, Winter) is good in Scituate Harbor. The harbor is great for Pollock (Pollock, Atlantic). We hope to see this continue into the weekend.
OFFSHORE – Cod (Cod, Atlantic) fish are open to keep one. Haddock is good around Stallwagon.
BAIT REPORT – Sandeels and Herring are swimming. The Harbor and bays are full of Porgy as well.

INSHORE – Joel from Belsan’s Bait and Tackle reported the first school Stripers (Bass, Striped) of the season have arrived in the South River. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) have started to bite in the harbor this week but the fishing should greatly improve after we get several days of sunshine and warm weather. Freshwater fishing for trout remains excellent. The store is open seven days a week and is fully stocked for the spring fishing season.

INSHORE – There is not a whole lot of action from the area this week. There have been reports of Sharks, Tuna, Bluefin, Bass, Striped, and Sea Bass, Black however things are slow this week and with the seasonal forecast we do not expect a to see plentiful bites over the coming weeks. Most anglers have moved to freshwater fishing for the next few months. There are still plenty of fish for anglers who put their time in though and should be a decent bite over the holiday week.

Boaters have continued to live line Mackerel to hook the big ones. They are becoming increasingly more difficult to find but they are still out there around the Stellwagen area. Bigger sizes will keep showing up as the weather becomes cooler.

OFFSHORE – The overall number of Tuna being caught this week is down but the Giant Bluefin (Tuna, Bluefin) sizes have been making up for a lack of numbers. It’s absolutely quality over quantity right now. Reports have come in of up to 660 lbs! Anglers have been live lining Mackerel around the bottom of the Stellwagen area for the biggest sizes. The bite is expected to continue over the next few weeks as the water will remain cold and the bigger sizes will move down.

INSHORE – There are still a few spots to find Bass, Striped this week before they disappear. Outside the estuaries and into the creeks are holding a few good sizes however most of the bigger Bass are holding up in the canal and are running fairly steady. The Blues (Bluefish) are gone at this point. There are still some croakers swimming as well however are becoming very sporadic. Blackfish (Tautog) is doing well on structures in the nearshore. There have also been some Flounder, Winter but not very many. They have been hiding along the bottom so anglers have to work to get some decent sizes.
OFFSHORE – Tuna, Bluefin are still swimming about 12 miles out off Chatham. They continue to come in fairly thick and in good sizes. Big Mackerel have been reported from the offshore as well and are chasing the thick Sand Eel run that is making its way by. There is no shortage of fish in the offshore this week and when weather condition have been favorable the fishing has been great.

INSHORE – There is not a lot of action inshore this week. Mackerel, Atlantic continue to swim in the shallow water along with some Squid. Anglers are expecting Smelt to show up anytime now as well.
OFFSHORE – Anglers continue to find a solid Tuna, Bluefin bite however they are beginning to migrate through and are coming close to an end. Live lining Mackerel continues to produce fish. The weather has been very unfavorable so most anglers are staying inshore. Most fish have been from Jeffrey’s ledge to the SouthWest corner of the bank. Bottom fishing Pollock (Pollock, Atlantic) continues to do well throughout most of the year. 180-300 ft and even closer to shore has been holding Pollock. Anglers are using small pieces of Mackerel or Herring as bait.
BAIT REPORT – Mackerel and Squid are both running and have not been difficult to catch. Smelt are expected to move in shortly. Fisherman’s Outfitter is a great spot to bring in or ship your equipment for year end service.

INSHORE – There are still lots of good sized Mackerel (Mackerel, Atlantic) swimming in the shallow water. Anglers continue to live line for them. Squid and Skate (Skate, Winter) are also being caught on jigs. Stripers (Bass, Striped) have moved out at this point as the weather has cooled down this week.
OFFSHORE – Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) are still biting pretty well. The live bait is working well as anglers are jigging for them and finding a lot of success. Mackerel is running and can be used live or chunked. This bite is expected to continue through December when weather permits. Bottom fishing activity has slowed down however some people are still bottom fishing for Pollock (Pollock, Atlantic) jigging and live baiting for them as well. Either of these species can be found in roughly 180-300 ft of water.
BAIT REPORT – There are still plenty of small Mackerel running in thick schools. Live baiters are catching them with Sabiki rigs and are working well for offshore bait. Fisherman’s Outfitter is a great spot to bring in or ship your equipment for year end service.

Since fishing conditions change from minute to minute we try to keep our reports as updated as possible. The United States is a large country, so we try to keep our Quincy / Hull Fishing Report updated once a week. If you would like to contribute to the Quincy / Hull Fishing Report, feel free to email your fishing tips to mike@proangler.us. We rely on even small contributions to inform us that fishing conditions have changed so we can update the Quincy / Hull Fishing Report.
The Quincy / Hull Fishing Report is brought to you by the Pro Angler team and many, many, highly skilled Captains and bait shop owners.
