Marathon Fishing Report
INSHORE – There hasn’t really been anything out of the ordinary going on inshore throughout the Keys, that being said there is plenty of action to take advantage of. Seatrout are swimming the mangrove shorelines and can be easily caught in these areas. Key Largo in particular is always holding fish. Tarpon can be found as they make their way in. They are a bit hit or miss throughout the Keys as they haven’t arrived in some areas, or the weather has pushed them out. Searching flats and bridges with live bait will help you find them. Snapper may also be holding up on these structures. As usual, you can almost always find Bonefish and Permit hanging around. They aren’t very affected by the weather so heading out with Shrimp and Crabs when all else fails should give you a few fish.
OFFSHORE – The Keys has been the place to be this week. We are seeing a good variety of fish being landed. Both the numbers and sizes are great! Tuna have been one of the main focuses for anglers into this week. We are seeing plenty of Blackfin being hooked on feathers in colors like blue/white. Live bait is working as well. As we move towards Marathon, we are seeing better numbers and with the stream being so close in the Big Pine area anglers don’t even have to go very far to find them. Sailfish are another target for anyone heading offshore. Live bait has been the key to hooking them on the wrecks and reefs, especially around Islamorada. Dolphin and Wahoo have been caught in the mix as well. On the bottom the Snapper and Grouper always seem to be available on the reefs. Yellowtail in particular are in great sizes up to 6 pounds. Muttons have also been caught, but if you are targeting them you may have to be prepared to head farther out. Keep in mind, Grouper are catch and release in some areas, so check your Pro Angler App to determine what is legal to harvest.

INSHORE – The bridges are fishing well with small Live Target finger Mullets for big Grays (Snapper, Gray) and Jacks (Jack, Crevalle). They are biting well in the morning. Snook (Snook, Common) were following our baits however they weren’t feeding. Pilchards are a great live bait choice. The flats around the back are holding Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon that are slowly moving into the bridges. Search the mangroves for Snook as well.
OFFSHORE – The reefs are holding plenty of Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Mutton) this week. Kings (Mackerel, King) continue to push through however they are a bit scattered. You can find them in roughly 70 feet of water. Out of Marathon, there are good numbers of schoolie Dolphin that we hope to see move in soon. The Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) continue to show up at sunset.
BAIT REPORT – Pilchards and Pinfish are around on the flats.

Marathon Fishing Report
INSHORE – Fishing has been a bit tough in the area as of late, but don’t let that deter you from hitting the water. Permit, Bonefish, and Tarpon have been caught in the back and on the flats. In the deeper water areas there has been Mangroves on structured bottom. If you are targeting them, head out with live or dead Shrimp for the best catch.
OFFSHORE – This has been the time to head offshore and fish! Everything seems to be actively biting this week. Starting with Kings and Wahoo, we are finding them in the same depths this week. Unsurprisingly, they are both being caught on the troll and can be taken using Cigar Minnows or Ballyhoo on a 3 hook Kingfish rig. The trick to catching them is having different suspending depths of your bait, as they prefer to swim a bit more scattered out. There are some Bonito mixed in towards Key West.
Tuna are also a solid target to go after this week. Fishing from 150 to 300 feet of water, or alternatively heading to the Humps in Marathon has been successful. Bluefin have also been sighted as they were migrating through however they don’t seem to be feeding.
Dolphin and Sailfish are a bit scattered from Key Largo to Key West. Sails are more on the reefs while the Dolphin prefer the debris. Snapper, as usual can be caught on the bottom.

Marathon Fishing Report
INSHORE – The inshore bite is a bit limited however determined anglers are finding some decent fish. The reliable Jack Crevalle and Barracuda can almost always be found, and are particularly thick around the bridges in Big Pine. Of course, we can’t forget about Ladyfish, Permit and Cero Mackerel that never seem to want to shut down. Nearshore structure is holding Snapper from Key Largo to Key West. Fish the outgoing tide for an active bite.
If you can find a chance to head out to some of the islands the Snook bite has been decent. If the weather is too rough you can also find them in the backcountry, but they won’t be as sizeable. Keep an eye out for Sharks too. If you’re not targeting them, you won’t want to lose your bait to them.
OFFSHORE – What a variety of fish we are seeing offshore this week! From Cobia to Amberjack to Marlin you never know what you’ll be reeling in until it breaks the water! Sailfish are providing a good day bite for anglers from Islamorada to Marathon. The recent wind will aid in kite fishing for them. There are many other scattered species including Dolphin, Wahoo, Tuna and White Marlin turning up as well. As we move towards Key West there were also a few Blue Marlin hooked this week and some Swordfish.
The bottom bite is almost always a good bet for anglers fishing offshore. Snapper are holding up on most of the reefs along with Hawk Channel in Marathon. Don’t be surprised if you reel in a Hogfish or catch and release Grouper with them as well. Amberjack have also been mixed in. Despite the wind anglers have had a great week full of surprises.

Marathon Fishing Report
INSHORE – The wind early in the week moved a lot of the Tarpon out. They are moving back in although don’t seem to be feeding very heavily. If you plan to fish Bahia Honda make sure to bring some Hogy Plastics or Blue Crab. There has been lots of small Tarpon out of Islamorada and a decent morning bite from Key West. Flats fishing was pretty awful to start the week. Some calm afternoons have allowed Bonefish and Permit anglers to get on on the flats and catch fish with live bait. Redfish have also been on the flats and into the bushes, Snook have been mixed in near Islamorada.

OFFSHORE – There is lots of fish to be caught in the Florida Keys, the ‘reel’ challenge has been navigating the wind which is finally letting up. Reef fishing has been productive out of Key West and Big Pine Key for a healthy mix of Snapper. Amberjack and Almaco Jacks fish best out of Big Pine. If you are looking for King Mackerel we recommend heading all the way to Key West. Sailfish numbers have been fishable out of Key West, here and there out of Big Pine. While Trolling Ballyhoo anglers can expect some Mahi as well off of Big Pine. There hasn’t been a lot of Tuna caught this week and they have been on opposite ends of the Keys mixed with a few Bonito.

Marathon Fishing Report
INSHORE – Flats anglers travelling to the middle Keys and west were welcomed with hungry Permit and Bonefish. King Mackerel were being caught in as little as 10 to 15 feet of water near Big Pine Key. Most of the Kings were taken while drifting live Pinfish. Things got tougher as you neared Florida’s southern mainland. Wind direction and water color saw tough fishing for multiple boats out of Flamingo. Bait wasn’t overly difficult to find, a few mile run towards the cleaner gulf water was the key to finding Pilchards. The big Snook towards the glades got a little hard to locate, but at least there were some hungry seatrout on most days.

OFFSHORE – There has been a decent Blackfin Tuna bite in the Keys as everyone from Key Largo to Key West managed a few good trips. Most of the hookups were a result of trolling Cedar Plugs over the numerous reefs during late afternoons. There were even a few Bluefin Tuna that buzzed past Key Largo and spooled a few anglers. Snapper fishing the reefs stayed strong on the Atlantic side while the gulf saw some Cobia on Rays in 12 feet of water.

Marathon Fishing Report
INSHORE – Despite the fronts moving through this week there were still a handful of diehard anglers heading out to fish inshore. There is a variety of fish turning up this week. Mangrove Snapper has provided the most consistent bite from Key Largo to Big Pine as they hold up along bridges and structure. Where you find Snapper you will usually hook a Jack Crevalle or two. Unsurprisingly a handful of Barracuda have shown up in the same areas.
Red Drum and Spotted Seatrout have been sporadic at best. In Key Largo the Trout have been a bit more consistent on Shrimp under a cork however they seem to dissipate as we move towards Islamorada. Bait is beginning to move back in. If you are looking to catch your own you should have no shortage, especially towards Key West.

OFFSHORE – Blackfin Tuna are consistently turning up offshore this week from Islamorada to Key West. Anglers are making their way out to the deep water for a spectacular night bite. Good sized fish to 20 pounds have been steadily caught so far.
On the wrecks and reefs the Snapper bite has been off the hook! We are seeing a nice variety with a prominent bite of Muttons. Anglers are having no trouble at all snagging a few keeper sizes. Amberjack and Porgy are mixed in.
We are beginning to see King Mackerel arrive in the area from Key Largo to Key West. They are a bit more scattered throughout the offshore with the occasional Bonito and Wahoo swimming with them. Anglers fast trolling using heavy rigged lures in black/red or black/purple should find success.
Dolphin have provided a sporadic bite ranging anywhere from approximately 200-300 feet of water. Live bait has been the ticket to catch them.

INSHORE – Despite some wind, the warmer than usual February temperatures are welcomed by backcountry anglers as the Tarpon have already begun to turn on. Snook, Mangrove Snapper, and Redfish have been fishing well from the Eastern Keys to Islamorada. Some particularly big Seatrout have been caught from Big Pine to Sugarloaf Key. Bahia Honda is thick with Blacktip Sharks. There has also been a great nighttime Tarpon bite in the same area.
OFFSHORE – Patch reef fishing all along the Keys has been steady for Yellowtail, Mangroves, and Muttons as well. Towards Key West there have been good amounts of Spanish and King Mackerel working the reefs. Big Sharks have been turning up off of Key West as well. Some of the offshore boats have had some good Blackfin Tuna fishing in the late afternoons over wrecks. While fishing the wrecks in the middle Keys anglers have been hooking up to some big King Mackerel. Sailfish have been quiet this week with Islamorada being an exception. There were some good Sailfish and Wahoo caught in deeper water.

OFFSHORE – There is some action heating up nearshore. Kings (Mackerel, King) are turning up on the reef. Yellowtail (Snapper, Yellowtail) have provided a roller coaster bite in terms of consistency. Little to no current has made chumming tough for anglers. There are plenty of Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) offshore. Sailfish are beginning to pick up. A few Wahoo have been hooked. The Dolphin bite hasn’t been all that great.

OFFSHORE – The wind and rain has slowed fishing down a bit. Prior to the storm there was a good Mangrove (Snapper, Gray) bite coming in up to 5 lbs. They are taking live Ballyhoo. There are a few Muttons (Snapper, Mutton) mixed in throughout the passes. There were some Dolphin around however anglers can’t seem to get out far enough to hook them with the weather patterns. The Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) bite is good on the humps. The bite should get better as we move into fall. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – With this system pushing through most of Florida, we expect a lot of wind and tough conditions. Most of the fishing from last week should fire back up once the storm passes. Expect to see the rainfall cool off inshore waters. This will help some of the fish that prefer cooler conditions. Stay informed on all the coming weather systems using your Pro Angler App!

INSHORE – Anglers are focusing on the reefs for Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Mutton & Snapper, Yellowtail). The bite is so hot anglers are easily hitting their limit of Mangroves. They are legal up to 5 lbs. The Yellowtail are mostly 14-18 inches. The current on the reef has changed a lot of the fish. It becomes difficult to drift the wrecks where the Muttons, Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) and Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) are. This is all about 4 miles from shore. INSHORE – The Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) are making their way from the bay and gulf areas out to the reef edge to spawn. And, while they’re there, they eat. A lot.Catch the Mangroves near the bottom by using small live baits, such as Pinfish and Ballyhoo, fished on a 3/8- to half-ounce jighead. If they are in your slick, use chunked-up Pinfish or Ballyhoo on Owner SSW 2/O hooks with Seaguar 20-pound fluorocarbon leaders. The Yellowtail Snapper (Snapper, Yellowtail) bite is still pretty good, with the 60- to 90-foot depths typically working best. Here, you should use small cut baits, such as ballyhoo pieces and bonita bellies, fished on Owner Mutu Light Number 4 hooks with Seaguar 15-pound fluoro. Mutton Snapper (Snapper, Mutton) are spawning on the wrecks in 100-250 feet of water. Live Ballyhoo is by far the superior bait for them, but Pinfish and Pilchards are also excellent. We use Owner AKI 4/O hooks with Seaguar 40-pound fluoro leaders that are 15 feet long. A great place to start looking for the Muttons are the artificial reefs marked on any chart available at the local tackle shop. These areas also hold Jacks (Jack, Crevalle), Amberjack (Jack, Amberjack Greater) and the occasional Grouper (Grouper, Gag). Successful summertime Snapper fishing requires ample amounts of chum. We like to enhance our store-bought blocks of chum with products from Aquatic Nutrition Sportfishing Chum. For the Mangroves and Muttons, we use Chum Drop. And, for the Yellowtails, we find their Yellowtail Up product makes a huge difference. Ask your local bait shop for Aquatic Nutrition products or order them online. Shallow water Shark (Shark, Bull & Shark, Blacktip & Shark, Lemon & Shark, Tiger) fishing on the bay grass flats and inshore wrecks has been excellent for both Lemons and Blacktip, with the occasional Null and Tiger also making an appearance. Most of the Blacktip sharks average three to four feet in length and are great sport on light tackle. The Lemon Sharks are in the four- to seven-foot range and put up quite a fight when matched with spinning gear. Catch-and-release Shark fishing in waters as shallow as four to five feet, with Sharks swarming around the boat, makes for awesome summer fun fishing. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for more angling tips and tricks!
OFFSHORE – Offshore, there’s still plenty of Dolphin around. Just be sure to have your measuring stick handy as they tend to be on the short end this time of the year. Remember, Dolphin need to measure 20 inches to the fork of the tail in order to be keepers. For all your summertime fishing, early morning or late evening is more productive than the middle of the day. On the reef and wrecks, there’s tons of fishing action for all the Snapper (Snapper, Mutton & Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail) varieties plus the occasional Grouper (Grouper, Gag).

A lot of Muttons (Snapper, Mutton) are swimming as well. In the shallower areas of the reef there are some Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) and they are also along the rocks. The sizes are smaller here. Live Pinfish will work to hook them.
OFFSHORE – Farther out there are some nice Dolphin with some good size to them. They are about 30 miles off the beach in roughly 2000 ft. There are some smaller fish closer in around 600 ft. Look for the birds and some debris here and there.

INSHORE – The flats are holding Permit, Tarpon and Bonefish. The Bonefish have really heated up as of late. The numbers are back to where they used to be. Anglers are having no trouble hooking 5-15. Chumming has been most productive using live Shrimp.
OFFSHORE – It’s the time of year when anglers are avoiding those afternoon thunderstorms. This has made the morning the most productive time to fish. The reef has produced a good Yellowtail (Snapper, Yellowtail) bite. Cut bait on the drift has been best to hook them in the slick. The Mutton (Snapper, Mutton) bite on the wrecks are great with fish from 5 – 20 lbs . Pinfish or live Ballyhoo are best. They are aggressive and ready to spawn so catching them hasn’t been too hard. Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) continue to come in from the bay. Blacktip and Lemon Sharks are catching well although they are all released.
BAIT REPORT – Ballyhoo are on the reef this week for anyone making their way offshore who. A single gold hook with a piece of squid is all you need to hook them. Pull up to the reef and throw Menhaden Chum to get them up to the boat before casting.

Snapper, Yellowtail has slowed down but can still be found for anglers targeting them. We are even starting to see a few Mahi (Dolphin) in the area as well.

OFFSHORE – The hump has been good for Tuna, Blackfin as well as some Dolphin at roughly 500 ft. Some are weighing in up to 40 lbs. The bite is great when anglers can get out on the water.

INSHORE – Plenty of Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Mutton) have had a fantastic bite this week. Live Shrimp has been the key to hooking them. We expect this bite to continue into the weekend. Should anglers decide to target a variety of fish they can always check out our Fish Guide which provides additional tips and tricks that will help keep your line tight!
OFFSHORE – It has been hit and miss offshore due to weather however anglers who can find a break can target a great Dolphin bite so far. There have been no reports of Wahoo yet however we expect this to change once we get some better weather.

Marathon / Key Colony Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – There is plenty of action in the nearshore channels this week. Anglers are seeing lots of keeper Yellowtail (Snapper, Yellowtail), Hogfish, and Mackerel, Cero. Shrimp on a jig dragged along the bottom is the best method to reel any of these species in. There are also loads of Sharks (Shark, Blacktip & Shark, Spinner & Shark, Bull) that are hitting Bluerunners or cut Mackerel under a float. The Bulls are especially loving larger tackle as some are as large as 500 lbs. The bay has been hot on the Mackerel, Spanish bite. When the water is a bit warmer we are seeing Snapper, Mangrove and Seatrout, Spotted in consistent numbers. They are loving Shrimp either live or similar artificials.
OFFSHORE – Anglers are heading farther out this week from 120-300 ft of water right around the water change. Those who put some time in will hook some good Sails (Billfish – Sailfish). The Upper Keys are holding the best sizes. When the wind is blowing to the South we are seeing a consistent Dolphin bite with more sails mixed in. Wahoo are turning up around 30-50 lbs. There are still plenty of Tuna, Blackfin that are weighing in up to 20 lbs. Live bait has been the best method to hook them so far. Anglers are trolling with Bluerunners, Pilchards, Goggle Eyes, Ballyhoo and Cigar Minnows. The wrecks are holding a great bite of Snapper, Gray along with a few Pompano, African. Pinfish, Pilchards and Ballyhoo are the most productive live bait. The deeper edges of the reef are holding Snapper, Yellowtail up to 18 inches mixed in with some Snapper, Mutton. If you are taking part in the great Grouper, Black bite keep in mind they are still catch and release.

OFFSHORE – Anglers heading out can find Tuna, Blackfin at the hump farther out. Live bait has been the key to hook them this week. They are turning up in huge sizes if you put your time in. The bite is not hot however there are plenty swimming. Snapper, Yellowtail are swimming the reef this week. There has not been a whole lot of action in the area. The sizes have been good so far and the bite is consistent.

INSHORE – The wind has been blowing hard this week. If you can get out and brave the wind the channels are producing some Snapper, Mutton. This has been the main focus as it is the only thing anglers can get to. Anglers are using live Shrimp to hook them. There are not many places to find shelter from the weather this week so most people are deciding to stay inside. We hope to see conditions clear up for the weekend so anglers can hit the water. Check out our Fish Guide for tons of information and tips to help improve the catch.

INSHORE – The wind has kept a lot of people off the water so far this week. The rain has also not added to the problem so anglers cannot find shelter. Once conditions calm down we expect to see a great bite of Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). We hope for conditions to clear up for the weekend so anglers can get out on the water. They can alway check out our Fish Guide which provides additional information and tips to help improve the catch.
OFFSHORE – The weather has been so messy that anglers have not made it to the offshore. Previous to the current front we were seeing lots of small Snapper, Mutton and some huge Snapper, Lane. Farther out the Sail (Billfish – Sailfish) bite has been great along with some decent Dolphin, Wahoo and Cobia. This is expected to continue when conditions become more favorable.

There are some reports of Pompano, Africa doing well around the bay side however they seem to have moved to the oceanside. Pinfish would be a good bait to take with you if you are targeting them.

Marathon / Key Colony Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – The weather is supposed to get seriously snotty this weekend with winds forecast around 30 mph making for some not so pleasant conditions. The good news is that we have plenty of places to hide in the bay that has some incredible fishing this time of year. Good numbers of Mackerel, Spanish, Snapper, Gray, Grouper, Goliath, Shark, Sandbar, and even a few Cobia and Kings from time to time close in less than 12 feet of water. It is really nice that we can turn a day of what seems to be misery into a great experience by just going to the other side of the street! We are truly blessed to have this kind of versatility, as it is action packed and you can still catch some really big fish on light tackle. Lots of opportunity with the fly rod back there as well with the Sharks and Mackerel, so there is plenty to do for everyone. I have a feeling with the forecast old man winter has in store for us over the weekend, this is where you will find me! Merry Christmas everyone!
OFFSHORE – A pretty good week down here in the middle/upper keys this past week with an incredible bottom bite. There has been dirtier water out front with a little east current making for really good reef and bottom fishing conditions. The Snappers (Snapper, Vermillion & Snapper, Yellowtail) and Groupers (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Goliath) as well as Kings (Mackerel, King) and Cero’s (Mackerel, Cero) have been aggressive to say the least, making for some pretty impressive fishing. The variety on the reef is ridiculous with ton’s of action for the entire family, not to mention some of the best table fare there is! The Sail (Billfish – Sailfish) bite has been slow at best, with only a few glimmers of hope, but we finally have a good cold front coming through Friday night so things just might get a bit interesting before we know it.

INSHORE – The water has been slightly muddied this week. The Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail) have had an amazing bite on the reefs. There have also been reports of Mackerel, King and Mackerel, Cero swimming as well and they are heating up. They are all in less than 12 feet of water at this point. They are loving live Mullet but aren’t too picky and will chase after almost anything live you can throw.
BAIT REPORT – There have been lots of fish swimming the offshore this week. Cobia have been hitting Pinfish so far and they are coming up in great sizes and numbers. They are still hanging out in the Gulf and aren’t too hard to find. Over the wrecks we are seeing some Jack, Amberjack Greater turning up in roughly 180-200 ft. of water. They are loving the live Grunt and although the bite is not as frequent, anglers who put their time in will find some great sizes. Grouper, Red are hitting well around 160 ft on live Pinfish along with some Grouper, Black. Farther out at 800 ft. there were some Snapper, Queen on cut Squid.

Marathon / Key Colony Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – There is not a lot happening right up on the shore however there is a hotspot of Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail) around 35-60 ft of water. Anglers are using live Shrimp and it has been the number one choice this week. Shrimp on a little jig head is a great setup for them. There have been no signs of Seatrout, Spotted so far this week but don’t be surprised if some turn up this weekend.
OFFSHORE – There has been a great Wahoo bite this week. Anglers have been doing the slow troll with Ballyhoo behind Squid Skirts. Black and purple are the colors of choice so far this week in water from 150-200 ft. The sizes are good and anglers are finding they don’t have to be out long to catch a few.
BAIT REPORT – There is bait to be caught but anglers will have to travel for it. Pilchards and Shrimp are stacked up on the West end of Seven Mile bridge. There is some bait around Marathon but most has been hanging around Veteran’s Beach. The birds are on them like crazy. There is also a good Mullet run this week in the canals and creeks. Lots of options for live baiters so far.

Marathon / Key Colony Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – The weather in this area has been absolutely dreadful this week with winds up to 30 mph. There have been no reports from the inshore this week as fishermen have not been able to find sheltered spots to get on fish. Anglers are hoping the conditions lie down for the weekend. It is expected that the Snapper, Yellowtail and Seatrout, Spotted bite should continue in more favorable weather. If anglers are determined to head out they can always check out our tips feature which provides additional information and suggestions to help improve the catch. Tackle Box can also provide an up to the minute fishing reports so everyone knows exactly what to expect on the water.
OFFSHORE – There is not a whole lot of action in the offshore this week as the wind has deterred most boaters from hitting the water. A few determined anglers have brought back reports of Shark (Shark, Lemon & Shark, Blacktip) swimming around the hump. A little bit West is where things are fired up. Anglers can hit all the Tuna, Blackfin they can find. They are hitting just about anything and coming up in decent sizes as well. It is hard to keep the hook in the water. There have been no reports of Dolphin or Billfish – Sailfish so far this week.
BAIT REPORT – Netting bait has continued to be a problem this week as the wind has mixed them up pretty well. There may still be Shrimp and Pilchards running however we won’t know for sure until the water calms down.

Marathon / Key Colony Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – The reef at approx. 25 ft of water has a steady Snapper, Yellowtail bite up near the Marathon area. Anglers have been chumming and using Ballyhoo to catch them. Now that the temperature has dropped there has been a lot of inshore changes. The Tarpon have slowed down and there are no reports yet this week. The Seatrout, Spotted should still be swimming however we have not seen any come in yet this week either. The Tripletail has become spotty but all of these bites are expected to pick up when the water settles from the wind last week.
OFFSHORE – The bite offshore has remained steady this week. There have been solid reports of Dolphin swimming around 600 ft, right outside the reef line. Anglers have also been targeting Billfish – Sailfish with naked or skirted Ballyhoo. The best color this week has been pinks, blues and white. There has not seemed to be any bait running in the offshore so it’s difficult to try to match. Anglers heading out this holiday weekend can always check out our Tips feature which provides additional information and suggestions that may improve the catch.
BAIT REPORT – Netting bait has continued to be a problem this week as the wind has mixed them up pretty well. Our sources suspect there may still be Shrimp and Pilchards running however we won’t know for sure until the water calms down.

INSHORE – Due to the current weather conditions the inshore fish are pretty mixed up this week. The previous Snapper (Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Mutton) bite should continue on frozen Shrimp or chunks once the weather lies down. There is no guarantee they will still be in the same water as the wind may have pushed them to different locations.
OFFSHORE – The wind has been harsh in this area as of late. Not many boats have made it to the offshore, especially recreational. When the wind lies down our sources expect to see a continued Wahoo bite increase as the temperature will have dropped a little bit more. The Billfish – Sailfish bite should also still be present from 150-200 ft of water trolling on Pilchards or typically Ballyhoo.
BAIT REPORT – The wind has the inshore bait fairly mixed up this week. There are still expected to be Ballyhoo running for live baiters willing to take on the harsh conditions.

INSHORE – Our sources have reported some Grouper, Black. Bonefish are on live Shrimp or Crab. Most crabs are little too big for Bonefish at this time. Jack, Crevalle have been showing up as well. Various sharks and even some Cuda (Barracuda, Great) are swimming in the shallower water and biting on live Pilchards or any artificials that look similar.
OFFSHORE – There have not been a lot of anglers making their way to the deeper water this week however they suspect that fishermen should continue to see a Dolphin bite although they are expected to be slowing down. There may be a few Billfish – Sailfish swimming as well, along with some Cobia. They have all been fairly quiet and there are no sign of Mackerel at the moment.
BAIT REPORT – There are quite a few bait schools swimming this week however Pilchards are by far the most prominent and effective.

INSHORE – The reef has been host to lots of Snapper (Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Gray) as well as some Mackerel. Yellowtails have been hitting Live Shrimp while the Mangos are loving live Pinfish or alternatively chunked. The bayside is producing Cobia and anglers have hopes that the Mackerel, Spanish will be moving in soon. There have also been reports of Grouper, Gag on the reef as well.
OFFSHORE – It has still been pretty breezy in the farther out locations this week. There have been no reports of offshore fishing lately. OFFSHORE – The reef has provided some great fishing as of late. It has been a bit windy so the humps about 15-20 miles out have not been easy to get to however the reefs below are host to a lot of fish including Cobia and Snapper, Yellowtail. Pre-weighted jigheads are working well for the Yellowtail while the Cobia are hitting stripped Squid. There has also been a great Dolphin bite while trolling Ballyhoo offshore.
INSHORE – There have been no inshore reports at this time however we expect results to pick up once the weather changes to a bit more ideal conditions. OFFSHORE – The Dolphin is biting strong if you can get out there, the weather has not been super great but they are in the 600-900 foot range, about 12-18 miles out. They are stacked deep. Keep your eyes on the weedlines. You want to be trolling skirted ballyhoo or skirted rigs. Blue and white is good, same with pink and white.INSHORE – The Mangrove Snapper bite is hot in 30 foot of water. Just drop down some live Pinfish on a .5 or .75 oz jig head. Pink and white is also going to be your color of choice. The water is hot and the humidity is up, and we are hitting 100-115 degrees some days, so if you hate heat stroke as much as the next person, fish early or at night.

OFFSHORE – Dolphin are out at 800 feet right now. As usual you want to be trolling Ballyhoo in 800 feet and the best color to use is pink and white, and blue and white. I have heard that pink is on the up and up lately as well.
INSHORE – Mangrove Snapper has been biting for the last two weeks. Your best bet to fish for them is to go out with Pinfish. The Pinfish are plentiful right now and almost everything inshore that can eat them, does. Don’t be afraid of chumming, and try to fish when you can.
BAIT REPORT – Lots of Pilchards around, you should have no problem catching them.

OFFSHORE – Michelle over at Big Time Bait & Tackle was telling me that her customers have been catching Dolphin out on the reef, and the best catches are coming in from around 29 miles out. As usual, you want to troll Ballyhoo if you can or try use a blue and white artificial. If you want to go bottom fishing off of the wrecks or reefs there is plenty of Yellowtail Snapper and Mangrove Snapper to be caught, with a few Grouper mixed in. Drop a Pinfish down to the bottom and you should be able to get some attention.
INSHORE – The catch here is a lot the same as the offshore catch. There are Mangrove Snapper and real small Grouper (can’t even keep them) being caught off of the bridges. There is also a mixed bag of smaller fish like Grunts. If you want to move into the backwater on the gulf side there are Mangrove Snapper and Permit biting. For the Permit you want to take live crabs, but for anything else you want to get big frozen shrimp.
BAIT REPORT – The local Shrimp are too small right now and if you plan on using them inshore, you should try to get frozen shrimp because they will be bigger than the live ones. If you want to drop a few live ones to whip a pod into a frenzy, by all means go a head. But most of your fish are going to be caught on the jig head with frozen shrimp.

Marathon / Duck key Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – Our friends over at Big Time Discount Bait & Tackle let us know that the Snapper bite is really quite good, especially later in the afternoon and at night. The Dolphin and Tuna have also been steady 20 miles and out. You are going to want to troll Ballyhoo and lures. A bunch of different colours have been working, try blue and green, solid pink, green and yellow, and black and purple. Those should all be working right now.
INSHORE – Inshore around here isn’t as good as it is around Islamorada right now – mostly because they are closer to Everglades National park. That being said we have the resident Tarpon still inshore and there is Bonefish on the flats. The best bait to use for them is going to be Shrimp and little Crabs. Glass Minnows in close to shore.

Marathon Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – The reef has had a lot of fish on it, but not much current, and the water is warm so the fish are deep right now. Offshore has been steady, but the size of the Dolphin has decreased this last week, sure you can still catch a monster or two, but you are going to catch a lot of smaller Dolphin than you are used too. Expect to go 25 miles and better for them. Bottom fishing for Mutton Snapper has been decent in the 200 foot range around wrecks, and rock piles. Along the reef itself it has been a little slow because there hasn’t been much current. There are some productive patch reefs in 30 feet of water, but not as many legals as shorts. If you have kids or are just fishing for fun there are plenty of Yellowtails and Grunts, but nothing for the dinner table.
INSHORE – Tarpon season ended pretty quickly, but it also started early so we can’t complain. There are still your resident Tarpon and Jacks in the neighborhood, just not the 150 pound breeders. The majority are 70 pounds and less. Crabs and live Shrimp are good for the inshore stuff whether you are fishing from a kayak, shore, or under a bridge. The Crab are specifically for the Tarpon, and everything else will bite on the Shrimp. Taking some live shrimp out to the flats can reward you with a few Bonefish. There are Snook too, but they aren’t in season. The Back cut on the East side of Marathon between Key County Beach and Marathon is great because it is deep and has a swift current.
BAIT REPORT – Ballyhoo is around, and if you find some, sabiki or cast net them and take them offshore to troll with. There is not much mullet. However, Pinfish and Shrimp will be here all summer, and the Shrimp are still big enough to put a hook through which won’t last for much longer. always pinfish and shrimp in the summer time. Still big enough to put on a hook though, which won’t last for much longer.

OFFSHORE– Offshore there are some Dolphin about 8 miles out. You’ll find them in about 900-1200 feet of water. YOu’ll want to troll for them with Ballyhoo of Pinfish. There are also some Tuna out there on the humps. Most of the Dolphin have been a little on the smaller side so some guys are heading out a little further to deeper water to look for some bigger fish.
INSHORE– Inshore the Tarpon and Grouper have been a little slow. However the Tarpon will still hit occasionally on live crab. There is a good bite on Yellowtail and Mangrove Snapper. They are biting well on live Shrimp or Squid or Pinfish cutbait.
BAIT– There are some pinfish if you’re in the right place at the right time. Try grass flats. There is some Ballyhoo around if you can get them in a good chum line. There are lots of Ballyhoo on the Bayside.

OFFSHORE – The trolling is great for Dolphin right now! You’ll find them at depths ranging from 60 feet for small ones up to 2500 for really big ones. You’ll want to troll with live bait, especially Ballyhoo. However you can troll pretty much anything you catch inshore. They are eating up the live bait like crazy. If you prefer to bottom fish that is doing okay too. There are some Grouper, Snapper and Yellowtail. For them you will want to drop live Pinfish.
INSHORE – The bridges are crazy right now. There are tons of Mangrove Snapper, Yellowtail and Sharks and a few ladyfish. There are also lots of baitfish like Grunts and Pinfish which is why the fishing is so good. Your best bet for bait is live Shrimp.
BAIT REPORT – Pinfish and Grunts are inshore and near the bridges.

INSHORE – Captain Nick at Nor’easter Sport Fishing reports that the Tarpon are slowing down but if you’re really set on catching them you’ll find that they are still biting well on live Crabs and Mud Minnows. It’s best if you can fish for Tarpon in the morning when they are most aggressive.
