Key Largo Fishing Report

INSHORE – There hasn’t really been anything out of the ordinary going on inshore throughout the Keys, that being said there is plenty of action to take advantage of. Seatrout are swimming the mangrove shorelines and can be easily caught in these areas. Key Largo in particular is always holding fish. Tarpon can be found as they make their way in. They are a bit hit or miss throughout the Keys as they haven’t arrived in some areas, or the weather has pushed them out. Searching flats and bridges with live bait will help you find them. Snapper may also be holding up on these structures. As usual, you can almost always find Bonefish and Permit hanging around. They aren’t very affected by the weather so heading out with Shrimp and Crabs when all else fails should give you a few fish.

OFFSHORE – The Keys has been the place to be this week. We are seeing a good variety of fish being landed. Both the numbers and sizes are great! Tuna have been one of the main focuses for anglers into this week. We are seeing plenty of Blackfin being hooked on feathers in colors like blue/white. Live bait is working as well. As we move towards Marathon, we are seeing better numbers and with the stream being so close in the Big Pine area anglers don’t even have to go very far to find them. Sailfish are another target for anyone heading offshore. Live bait has been the key to hooking them on the wrecks and reefs, especially around Islamorada. Dolphin and Wahoo have been caught in the mix as well. On the bottom the Snapper and Grouper always seem to be available on the reefs. Yellowtail in particular are in great sizes up to 6 pounds. Muttons have also been caught, but if you are targeting them you may have to be prepared to head farther out. Keep in mind, Grouper are catch and release in some areas, so check your Pro Angler App to determine what is legal to harvest.

INSHORE – The bridges are fishing well with small Live Target finger Mullets for big Grays (Snapper, Gray) and Jacks (Jack, Crevalle). They are biting well in the morning. Snook (Snook, Common) were following our baits however they weren’t feeding. Pilchards are a great live bait choice. The flats around the back are holding Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon that are slowly moving into the bridges. Search the mangroves for Snook as well.

OFFSHORE – The reefs are holding plenty of Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Mutton) this week. Kings (Mackerel, King) continue to push through however they are a bit scattered. You can find them in roughly 70 feet of water. Out of Marathon, there are good numbers of schoolie Dolphin that we hope to see move in soon. The Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) continue to show up at sunset.

BAIT REPORT – Pilchards and Pinfish are around on the flats.

Key Largo Fishing Report

INSHORE – Fishing has been a bit tough in the area as of late, but don’t let that deter you from hitting the water. Permit, Bonefish, and Tarpon have been caught in the back and on the flats. In the deeper water areas there has been Mangroves on structured bottom. If you are targeting them, head out with live or dead Shrimp for the best catch.

OFFSHORE – This has been the time to head offshore and fish! Everything seems to be actively biting this week. Starting with Kings and Wahoo, we are finding them in the same depths this week. Unsurprisingly, they are both being caught on the troll and can be taken using Cigar Minnows or Ballyhoo on a 3 hook Kingfish rig. The trick to catching them is having different suspending depths of your bait, as they prefer to swim a bit more scattered out. There are some Bonito mixed in towards Key West.
Tuna are also a solid target to go after this week. Fishing from 150 to 300 feet of water, or alternatively heading to the Humps in Marathon has been successful. Bluefin have also been sighted as they were migrating through however they don’t seem to be feeding.
Dolphin and Sailfish are a bit scattered from Key Largo to Key West. Sails are more on the reefs while the Dolphin prefer the debris. Snapper, as usual can be caught on the bottom.

Key Largo Fishing Report

INSHORE – The inshore bite is a bit limited however determined anglers are finding some decent fish. The reliable Jack Crevalle and Barracuda can almost always be found, and are particularly thick around the bridges in Big Pine. Of course, we can’t forget about Ladyfish, Permit and Cero Mackerel that never seem to want to shut down. Nearshore structure is holding Snapper from Key Largo to Key West. Fish the outgoing tide for an active bite.
If you can find a chance to head out to some of the islands the Snook bite has been decent. If the weather is too rough you can also find them in the backcountry, but they won’t be as sizeable. Keep an eye out for Sharks too. If you’re not targeting them, you won’t want to lose your bait to them.

OFFSHORE – What a variety of fish we are seeing offshore this week! From Cobia to Amberjack to Marlin you never know what you’ll be reeling in until it breaks the water! Sailfish are providing a good day bite for anglers from Islamorada to Marathon. The recent wind will aid in kite fishing for them. There are many other scattered species including Dolphin, Wahoo, Tuna and White Marlin turning up as well. As we move towards Key West there were also a few Blue Marlin hooked this week and some Swordfish.
The bottom bite is almost always a good bet for anglers fishing offshore. Snapper are holding up on most of the reefs along with Hawk Channel in Marathon. Don’t be surprised if you reel in a Hogfish or catch and release Grouper with them as well. Amberjack have also been mixed in. Despite the wind anglers have had a great week full of surprises.

Key Largo Fishing Report

INSHORE – The wind early in the week moved a lot of the Tarpon out. They are moving back in although don’t seem to be feeding very heavily. If you plan to fish Bahia Honda make sure to bring some Hogy Plastics or Blue Crab. There has been lots of small Tarpon out of Islamorada and a decent morning bite from Key West. Flats fishing was pretty awful to start the week. Some calm afternoons have allowed Bonefish and Permit anglers to get on on the flats and catch fish with live bait. Redfish have also been on the flats and into the bushes, Snook have been mixed in near Islamorada.

OFFSHORE – There is lots of fish to be caught in the Florida Keys, the ‘reel’ challenge has been navigating the wind which is finally letting up. Reef fishing has been productive out of Key West and Big Pine Key for a healthy mix of Snapper. Amberjack and Almaco Jacks fish best out of Big Pine. If you are looking for King Mackerel we recommend heading all the way to Key West. Sailfish numbers have been fishable out of Key West, here and there out of Big Pine. While Trolling Ballyhoo anglers can expect some Mahi as well off of Big Pine. There hasn’t been a lot of Tuna caught this week and they have been on opposite ends of the Keys mixed with a few Bonito.

Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Flats anglers travelling to the middle Keys and west were welcomed with hungry Permit and Bonefish. King Mackerel were being caught in as little as 10 to 15 feet of water near Big Pine Key. Most of the Kings were taken while drifting live Pinfish. Things got tougher as you neared Florida’s southern mainland. Wind direction and water color saw tough fishing for multiple boats out of Flamingo. Bait wasn’t overly difficult to find, a few mile run towards the cleaner gulf water was the key to finding Pilchards. The big Snook towards the glades got a little hard to locate, but at least there were some hungry seatrout on most days.

OFFSHORE – There has been a decent Blackfin Tuna bite in the Keys as everyone from Key Largo to Key West managed a few good trips. Most of the hookups were a result of trolling Cedar Plugs over the numerous reefs during late afternoons. There were even a few Bluefin Tuna that buzzed past Key Largo and spooled a few anglers. Snapper fishing the reefs stayed strong on the Atlantic side while the gulf saw some Cobia on Rays in 12 feet of water.

Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Despite the fronts moving through this week there were still a handful of diehard anglers heading out to fish inshore. There is a variety of fish turning up this week. Mangrove Snapper has provided the most consistent bite from Key Largo to Big Pine as they hold up along bridges and structure. Where you find Snapper you will usually hook a Jack Crevalle or two. Unsurprisingly a handful of Barracuda have shown up in the same areas.
Red Drum and Spotted Seatrout have been sporadic at best. In Key Largo the Trout have been a bit more consistent on Shrimp under a cork however they seem to dissipate as we move towards Islamorada. Bait is beginning to move back in. If you are looking to catch your own you should have no shortage, especially towards Key West.

OFFSHORE – Blackfin Tuna are consistently turning up offshore this week from Islamorada to Key West. Anglers are making their way out to the deep water for a spectacular night bite. Good sized fish to 20 pounds have been steadily caught so far.
On the wrecks and reefs the Snapper bite has been off the hook! We are seeing a nice variety with a prominent bite of Muttons. Anglers are having no trouble at all snagging a few keeper sizes. Amberjack and Porgy are mixed in.
We are beginning to see King Mackerel arrive in the area from Key Largo to Key West. They are a bit more scattered throughout the offshore with the occasional Bonito and Wahoo swimming with them. Anglers fast trolling using heavy rigged lures in black/red or black/purple should find success.
Dolphin have provided a sporadic bite ranging anywhere from approximately 200-300 feet of water. Live bait has been the ticket to catch them.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Despite some wind, the warmer than usual February temperatures are welcomed by backcountry anglers as the Tarpon have already begun to turn on. Snook, Mangrove Snapper, and Redfish have been fishing well from the Eastern Keys to Islamorada. Some particularly big Seatrout have been caught from Big Pine to Sugarloaf Key. Bahia Honda is thick with Blacktip Sharks. There has also been a great nighttime Tarpon bite in the same area.

OFFSHORE – Patch reef fishing all along the Keys has been steady for Yellowtail, Mangroves, and Muttons as well. Towards Key West there have been good amounts of Spanish and King Mackerel working the reefs. Big Sharks have been turning up off of Key West as well. Some of the offshore boats have had some good Blackfin Tuna fishing in the late afternoons over wrecks. While fishing the wrecks in the middle Keys anglers have been hooking up to some big King Mackerel. Sailfish have been quiet this week with Islamorada being an exception. There were some good Sailfish and Wahoo caught in deeper water.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – In the back we are seeing Tarpon, Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). Tarpon are out front as well. Now that Snook (Snook, Common) are open we may see them begin to fire up in the cuts in the evening. Tarpon are doing better on the warmer days. Generally the mid day bite will be more steady once the sun has heated up the water. We hope to see this continue into the weekend if the weather is nice to us. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – Kingfish (Mackerel, King) and Wahoo are the best bite during the day so far. To the North they are in roughly 100 ft of water. High speed trolling with black/purple or black/red has been great for the Wahoo. They can even be caught on kites. The Dolphin bite hasn’t been too great as they’ve been tougher to find in good numbers.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) are big on both sides. Tarpon are always swimming. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are in the usual areas in the creek around the cuts between the mangroves. They’re always on the moving tide. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – The big ticket this week has been the Mutton (Snapper, Mutton) bite on Speedos. They are taking Ballyhoo as well. They have been a bit more productive than other fish. A few Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) are mixed in. The Mangroves are great sizes. There hasn’t been a lot of Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) or Dolphin. Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) are still caught at the humps.

BAIT REPORT – Pinfish are in but there hasn’t been much word on Pilchards. For Pinfish, you can generally chum calmer areas to get them going then net them or sabiki them up. Some anglers still have luck leaving a Pinfish trap by the dock.

OFFSHORE – Fishing has been a bit tough as of late. The water is fairly muddy with all of the recent wind and conditions haven’t quite settled down yet. Despite it being nice today, there hasn’t been a lot of anglers heading out so far. If you can make it out there are some Wahoo biting. The wind is expected to pick up from the Northwest so fishing should improve as well.

Mullet are working as well. Dolphin are scattered but you’ll find them if you put some time in. Kings (Mackerel, King) are doing well. Drop a 3 hook jig with a Ballyhoo and let it sink. Bump troll live bait or use balloons or kites.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Anglers are catching lots of Snook (Snook, Common) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). Similar to last week, Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) are being caught in the creeks around 18 inches, around small Pinfish and Pilchards. Shrimp are also concentrating around the Mangroves in large numbers. The best bait to catch the Mangroves are small Pinfish. Tarpon are also being caught successfully with crab bait.

OFFSHORE – If you’re looking to catch some Dolphin, be sure to be fishing around 200-600ft. pulling rigged Ballyhoo. The Dolphin this week are good sizes with weight ranging anywhere from 40-50 lbs. and don’t seem to be letting up anytime soon. Some Wahoos and Yellowtails (Snapper, Yellowtail) are also being caught. The bait of choice to catch Yellowtails are Silversides thrown in the Chum slick. Anglers are also catching Muttons (Snapper, Mutton) that are fairly large in size. The muttons are about 10lbs. this week and can be found near the reefs and right outside the reefs up to 200 ft.

Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) are being caught in the creeks around 18 inches, including small light Pinfish and Pilchards. Shrimp are also found in this region as they tend to group together near the Mangroves.

OFFSHORE – Unlike last week, the Mahi (Dolphin) seem to be much more prominent in the area this week. The Mahi are caught around 200-600ft pulling Ballyhoo. Big Wahoos are out there but don’t seem to be heavy in numbers at the moment.

OFFSHORE – The Wahoo have slowed down but the Mahi (Dolphin) are have moved in closer. They are in roughly 200 to 600 ft and running thick. As always, Ballyhoo is working for them. We are still waiting for Muttons (Snapper, Mutton) to come in this week but they are decent from 80-200 ft. The Yellowtail (Snapper, Yellowtail) are big as well. Anglers are chumming on the reef to find them. Chunked Speedos or small Speedos are a good bet. Sunday was the Grouper opening and they can be caught as shallow as 10 ft. They are huge. Speedos or big Pinfish are doing well to hook them. Everyone is focusing on the thick Dolphin bite overall.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are right undersized this week. They are up to 14 inches so far. The Tarpon are in the area and are hitting live Crab or Mullet. They are the hot bite this week. Muttons (Snapper, Mutton) are moving in but have not spawned yet. Any live bait will work. On the back the Tarpon are hot as well with live Crab. You can also butterfly frozen Mullet as well. There have been no reports of Reds (Drum, Red) yet. Everyone is stocking up on crabs to throw this week.

OFFSHORE – Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red) Season opens May 1st. Live Pinfish and Speedos will hook them. Dolphin are in 600. ANglers are trolling live Ballyhoo or similar artificials. Look for birds to find them. The Wahoo and Kings (Mackerel, King) have slowed down but they are still out there.

BAIT REPORT – Pilchards are swimming. There is also plenty of Pinfish, and Ballyhoo farther out.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – The backside is producing the typical pattern this week. Mangroves are steady (Snapper, Gray). Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are being caught in various sizes, mostly legal. Be aware of the Sharks (Shark, Bull & Shark, Blacktip) that are taking the fish.

OFFSHORE – The Mahi (Dolphin) are here and are steady so far. They’re in 200-600 ft this week and scattered about. Search under the birds. Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) are still in the area and being caught. Trolling Ballyhoo has given the best results. There haven’t been many reports of Wahoo but anglers are waiting for the Muttons to show up (Snapper, Mutton). They are just beginning to move in. You can use Speedos to get them. A great alternative is live Ballyhoo dropped down whole and are easy bait to get as close as 10 ft of water. The Yellowtail (Snapper, Yellowtail) seemed to have stopped. They were heavy but are absent so far this week. We expect this to carry into the weekend.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Mutton (Snapper, Mutton) are beginning to show up and are really good so far. Tarpon are also swimming. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) continue to bite as well this week. They are consistent and their sizes are pretty good. They are an easy catch for all anglers.

OFFSHORE – There are still Wahoo and Kings (Mackerel, King) swimming this week. The Dolphin are way out to 30 miles this week so it’s a bit of a trip to find them. Everything else is in the gulf stream. The Yellowtail (Snapper, Yellowtail) have slowed down but if you can still find them they are big. We expect fish to start moving in soon.

BAIT REPORT – Crabs have made their way in this week.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Mangroves (Snapper, Mangrove) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are hot this week. Anglers are starting to use Crabs and get prepared for Tarpon. We expect to see them start really moving soon. The weather is slowly improving and we expect to this bite to continue into the weekend.

OFFSHORE – From 200-500 we are seeing a mix of Wahoo, Kings (Mackerel, King) and Dolphin. The Dolphin are the most prominent. Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) are being caught here and there. Muttons (Snapper, Mutton) are coming in but they aren’t very heavy yet. Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin & Tuna, Yellowfin) are at the humps as usual. They are loving feathers across the humps. Dragging Ballyhoo has been the best bet to hook everything else. Speedos are on the reef as well.

BAIT REPORT – Speedos are on the reef but are beginning to thin out.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – The weather is great this week and anglers are finally able to head out and take advantage of the bite. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are biting well this week on live Shrimp or similar artificials. We expect to see a Spring pattern move in soon.

OFFSHORE – The main bite this week is Wahoo! The bite is more than consistent and the sizes are great. We are seeing them anywhere from 200-400 ft. The Dolphin have also been great as well. They are not as hot as the Wahoo but the sizes are just as awesome. Live Speedos have been the key to hitting them. Snapper (Snapper, Mutton) are all over the place but you will have to put some time in to reel in a few. The Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) bite has slowed down but you shouldn’t be surprised if a few turn up.

BAIT REPORT – We are seeing some Pinfish in the area as well as Speedos out on the reef this week.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Things have slowed down in the back this week, possibly due to the freshwater mix. Anglers heading out can expect to see some Snook, Common and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). It’s a bit early to see Tarpon and Permit move in however it won’t be too long now. The morning and late afternoon bite has produced the best bite so far this week and the sizes are great so far.

OFFSHORE – The Sailfish (Billfish, Sailfish) tournament increased the action this past weekend. Everyone was doing well. There are some Tuna, Yellowfin at the humps this week. They are pretty consistent. Dolphin have been swimming at the drop from 400-500 and they are doing pretty well. The main bite is around 250 ft this week. The Snapper, Yellowtail are slowing down and there been no reports of any turning up.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Snook, Common have shown up. The bite is not hot but they are there. The backwater has slowed down, there are also some reports of a freshwater mix. We are still seeing some Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) come in along with Snapper, Gray. Shrimp has been the key bait this week to throw.

OFFSHORE – Anglers are catching some Dolphin this week which they are really excited about. The weather should be calmed down for the weekend so we expect to see the same King (Mackerel, King) and Wahoo bite from 200-400 ft. Snapper, Yellowtail are spotty this week. Snapper, Mutton however are still hot.

BAIT REPORT – We continue to see Speedos on the reef this week.

INSHORE – The backwater is holding some Snapper, Gray this week. We are also seeing the usual Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) on Shrimp with a popping cork. The Tarpon are scattered but can be caught on Mullet.

OFFSHORE – Kings (Mackerel, King) and Wahoo are in about 2000-400 ft this week. Snapper, Yellowtail have slowed down due to the strong current but Snapper, Mutton are still strong. Anglers are flatlining Speedos to hook them.

BAIT REPORT – Speedos are on the reef this week and there are tons of Pinfish inshore.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Things in the backwater have been extremely slow. The water is getting pushed from the bay into the ocean and has been quite muddy. There are still Tarpon, Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Reds (Drum, Red) but you will have to put your time in to find them. Shrimp under a cork and spoons tipped with Shrimp will work best.

OFFSHORE – Weather has been up and down in this area as of late which should continue into the weekend. Wahoo, Sails (Billfish – Sailfish), and Kings (Mackerel, Kings) off the reefs using live Speedos, Goggle Eyes and flatlining Pilchards. The Wahoo have turned up around 60 lbs. The Sails are up to 80 lbs. Live bait is the key to hook them, and you can catch your bait offshore. Kites and Flatlines are working well from 200-250 ft. Things are expected to continue into the weekend.

BAIT REPORT – Pilchards and Speedos are both running on the reefs this week.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) are doing well throughout the backwater however there are no reports of Reds (Drum, Red). The tide has dropped fairly low in some areas so it has been difficult for anglers to fish some places. We expect this bite to continue into the weekend now that the weather seems to have cleared up a bit.

OFFSHORE – It’s finally been nice the last few days and the Wahoo are doing well around 200-250 ft at the drop off. They have been weighing in around 60 lbs! The Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) and Dolphin are slow however the Kings (Mackerel, King) are heavy. The sizes have been great so far this week. Anything live such as a Cigar Minnow dropped deep to 90 feet on the troll will work. There have been some great reports of Yellowtail from 80-150 ft.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Well the winter weather continues we’ve just been hit by another hard cold front and had a couple nasty days with 30 plus mph winds. Today things got nice but it was a cold morning though beautiful and sunny right now this afternoon. Things look to stay on the chilly side with lows in the mid 50s through until the weekend. Fishing has been pretty good still overall however. Capt. Mike Venezia has had some decent action in the everglades with drums and Snooks (Snook, Common). It hasn’t been the red hot bite that we had on the right days in January, but more of a pick of fish and sometimes you get in a good spot that may hold several. Though still lots of fun and Capt. Mike has been adventuring into some very creeks that not many have travelled into! He also had a good day a week ago fishing the patches catching some dinner and they caught some nice Blacktips (Shark, Blacktip) plus a Bonefish to start it off in the morning. Capt. Jim Willcox has been plugging away deep in the everglades at Redfish (Drum, Red) and Snook. Though some of the deeper areas have not been consistent as there has been some nasty water so you really have to work at it some days to find fish. I went out with Capt. Bill Basset Saturday and it was not easy fishing either we caught a few nice Reds and it was hard work. Though that was the day of the swamp guides ball and many reported that fishing was not easy. Though Capt. Bill reported a nice day this morning fishing the patches and catching plenty for dinner Snappers (Snapper, Mutton), Porgy, etc. as did Capt. Chris Daly. Capt. Vic Gaspeny had a mix of Snappers and got a couple keeper Hogfish this morning too. I myself last week had some good action in the gulf we caught plenty of Mackerels (Mackerel, Spanish) on several different days. Capt. Mike Bassett also had some good Mackerel days alongside me. There were also some jumbo Snapper, Gray on one wreck we were catching on Pinfish, nice 15-18 inch fish real drag pullers! We had great Tripletail fishing too, not a lot of large ones but lots of them and caught probably 10 or more each day we went. One day we also caught two nice size Grouper, Goliath up to 150 lbs, and a big old Shark, Tiger that was over 300 lbs! It was pretty incredible on the lighter spinning rods we use for smaller 30-80 lb Tarpon. I myself am going out of town for a week or so but as I said we look to stay in the winter mode for another week or so. Tarpon fishing will probably have to wait until it gets consistently warm which may not happen for a few more weeks we will see, but there are plenty of other things to do as you can see. Give us a call if you are in the area fishing is plenty good and there are lots of things to catch!

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Around the mouths of the cuts in the back there is a great Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite. We are finally seeing the weather improve this week so anglers can get out for a nice fish. Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Mutton) are on both sides and the sizes are great. The Mutton bite is stronger. Reds (Drum, Red) and Tarpon are also swimming and will hit Shrimp under a popping cork in up to 4 ft of water. The Trout are biting the same bait. Select Penn merchandise is on sale at Captain Bad Bait & Tackle this week! Stop in and check out the great deals.

OFFSHORE – Everything is from 200-500 this week. Snapper (Snapper, Yellowtail), Wahoo and Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) from 200-250. The water is cloudy on the edge which has made fishing tougher. The fronts have moved the baywater out this week however this has not stopped anglers from taking advantage of the nice weather that has finally arrived. At this point the sizes are great and the bite is consistent.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – On the back side we continue to see Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) biting well too. The thin water is holding some great sizes of Reds (Drum, Red) along with plenty of Tarpon swimming just about everywhere. The water is still fairly warm, the temperature has dropped enough for the bait to disappear though. Captain Bad will provide 10% off Power Pro if you mention Pro Angler Fishing App!

OFFSHORE – This weekend is finally supposed to have nice weather so we expect to see a great bite turn up. From 120 out you will find great sizes of Sails (Billfish – Sailfish), Wahoo and Kings (Mackerel, King). There should be a great bite of Tuna, Yellowfin as well. At the humps we are seeing lots of great Tuna, Blackfin. We are also seeing some huge Snapper, Gray a little closer in. At this point there is still a lot of bad weather in the area so there aren’t a lot of opportunities to hit the water.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are still in the backcountry this week which is great as it provides a bit of shelter from the weather conditions. Shrimp and similar artificials are still the best bet to hook them. The sizes are great so far and most of them are keepers. With the cooler weather they are beginning to school up so the bite is slightly easier to find if you can get out. We hope to see the weather settle down for the weekend.

OFFSHORE – Things have not changed much from last week. The wind is still extremely harsh so a lot of anglers have stayed off the water. Despite this there are still quite a few fish swimming. Kings (Mackerel, King), Wahoo and Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) are all swimming in 200-600 ft. Free lining dead baits or live baits are both successful this week as well as Kite fishing. The Snapper, Yellowtail bite has slowed down however we suspect they are still out there with the Snapper, Mutton and Snapper, Gray, although difficult to catch with the weather conditions.

BAIT REPORT – There are still Herring and Pilchards running for anglers who can brave the weather conditions to get out on the water. Captain Bad will provide 10% off Power Pro if you mention Pro Angler Fishing App!

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is not a lot of different fish throughout the inshore this week. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are doing well in the backcountry this week. They are still just undersized. Shrimp and similar artificials will be the best bet for catching them. The bite is consistent and we hope to see the sizes increase to keepers very soon. Once the weather clears up and the water settles down we expect to see some bait move in and some great sizes of fish to follow.

OFFSHORE – Kings (Mackerel, King) and Wahoo are biting from 200-600 ft in the offshore. Anglers are free lining dead baits or live baits. Kite fishing is quite productive as well and when the weather is good it’s most angler’s preference. Snapper, Yellowtail are doing well from 80-100 ft. Anglers are having no trouble hooking a few of these per trip. Snapper, Mutton and Snapper, Gray are loving cut Speedos or big Ballyhoo this week. They have been the focus off the bottom since Grouper is closed now. Tuna, Blackfin are still holding up on the humps as well however the bite is slowing down. There are no reports of Dolphin so far as the water is still fairly unfavorable until this front passes. Anglers are getting out when they can however we are eager to see some better conditions in this area.

BAIT REPORT – Herring and Pilchards are plentiful this week. Ballyhoo have been scarce and deep but are there for determined live baiters. There are a few Shrimp running as well but the rain has moved a lot of them out. Captain Bad will provide 10% off Power Pro if you mention Pro Angler Fishing App!

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – The weather seems to continue to be unfavorable this week. Most anglers are staying inshore and targeting Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) around the back. Most are undersized at this point but the cooler weather should bring in more and in bigger sizes. The bite has been great and the back provides shelter depending on the direction of the wind. There are also some Yellowtails (Snapper, Yellowtail) however they are a bit farther out in 200 ft of water. Anglers are eagerly awaiting the weather to improve so they can finally have some favorable fishing conditions.

OFFSHORE – The water is beginning to cool down so the better sizes of Kings (Mackerel, King) are starting to come in. Wahoo and Mahi (Dolphin) in 200-600 are hitting as well. Past the reef there are some big Snapper (Snapper, Mangrove & Snapper, Mutton) now that the Grouper is closed. They are hitting well on chunks of Speedos. This is all weather allowing as the conditions have not made offshore fishing favorable for the last while. Captain Bad has tons of great deals on 2016 PENN rods and combos. INSHORE – The bite has been slow so far this week. Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) are on both sides and are hitting well on Pinfish. The sizes are great so far. There are also reports of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) however they are about a half inch off legal and no keepers are turning up quite yet. The weather is still warm so once temperatures drop we expect to see some larger sizes. Captain Bad has tons of great deals on 2016 PENN rods and combos. Stop in and check them out!

OFFSHORE – There are quite a few fish biting in the offshore when anglers get a break from the wind. From 200-1000 ft anglers can find Sails (Billfish – Sailfish), Wahoo, Kingfish (Mackerel, King) and still some Grouper, Gag which closes on January 1. They can also be found slightly inside the reef as well. Everything is biting well on Speedos and Pinfish.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The warm winter continues to march on here in the Florida Keys as is the case throughout the whole US east coast. Over the weekend we had a mild front though it didn’t get as cold as we hoped, barely down into the high 60s maybe at night. The winds were cranking though we had a couple days of it blowing 25-30 mph, but looks to be letting up some starting tomorrow and will be more of a southeast breeze. Fishing before, during, and after the front has held up pretty good luckily most of our winter time fishing has been decent even though it hasn’t been cold. Capt. Rick Stanczyk had reported good fishing before the front running into the gulf and the everglades. He had good mackerel fishing out west, with some tripletails on many of the crab pot bouys mid day, and then finished several afternoon days with a good catch of Snook, Common and a few Redfish (Drum, Red). It was a good routine for several days while the tides were right for it. During the front he made it out to the patches and caught some good eating Porgy, Hogfish, and Snapper, Vermillion, and even got his anglers on a nice 15 lb Permit! Today they fished the gulf on a half day and he reported red hot Mackerel, Spanish action with some nice Snapper, Gray mixed in. Capt. Jim Willcox has been getting deep into the glades and the wind hasn’t bothered him once back there. He has reported a mixed bite of Redfish, Drum (Drum, Black), and Snook. Having to work around a bit, the fish aren’t stacked up in the winter time holes since it hasn’t been cold, but they are back there. Capt. Bill Bassett reported a good day with some nice Reds and a couple Snook way back in the ‘glades a little over a week ago. He also has had some good action with the Mackerels in the near gulf. Capt. Mike Bassett reported a few Snook around the mainland creeks and also got a nice black drum and 40 lb Tarpon the other day. They had to head in early due to weather chasing them back but made a good day of it. Capt. Perry Scuderi had some good action fishing out on the patches last week too before it got windy. He reported some nice Hogs, Jack, Crevalle, porgies, and various other species great for the table. Capt. Clyde Upchurch was able to get out during the wind over the weekend they stayed close to not get beat up and were able to catch a variety of thing including plenty of Mangrove Snapper for dinner. The weather for christmas week looks to be very warm and a slight southeast breeze which won’t be too bad at all in the backcountry. Fishing should remain good. We may have a very early start to the tarpon season if this warm weather holds out through January.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – I just got back into town so here’s an updated report of the recent fishing in Islamorada. December 4th – 6th was the 52nd annual Islamorada Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) Tournament and weather conditions were tough with lots of rain and storms, but it didn’t stop our guys from finding some Sails. Capt. Paul Ross on the Relentless put his team on 12 Sailfish releases over the 3 days which put them in 2nd place overall. Great Job Guys! Most of our other boats had between 4 – 8 releases over the 3 day event. There’s been a few Sailfish releases the last couple days, but it sounds like some dirty water moved in and the current really let up. I think once the current picks back up and we get some blue water they bite will turn back on, especially with the cold front coming later this week. There’s still been a few Wahoo, Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin), and Mahi (Dolphin) in the mix as well. The Kalex also had a big Pompano, African the other day while fishing a wreck. Anchored down on the reef we’ve seen some Grouper (Grouper, Black) and Snapper (Snapper, Mutton & Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Gray). There’s also been some really nice Ceros (Mackerel, Cero) mixed in on the patch reefs and the edge of the reef. We should start seeing some more Cobia moving through inside the reef. Some boats have had fun with Barracuda and a few sharks lately as well. Give the marina office a call at 305-664-2461 when you’re ready to book your fishing charter charter and we’ll set you up!! Tight Lines,

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – As it is still raining there hasn’t been a whole lot of action in the inshore. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has picked up a bit. There have also been reports of Grunt, White and Snapper, Gray in the back as well. Tarpon are still biting in this area and their sizes continue to come in fairly big. There are also some big Permit hanging around the shore. Although the bite is spotty, everything seems to be sized pretty well this week.

OFFSHORE – The offshore is absolutely full of fish this week. You don’t have to go much farther than roughly 250 ft of water to catch some great sizes. Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) have picked up really well so far this week. They’re mixed in with Wahoo, Kings (Mackerel, King), and Mahi (Dolphin). All of these are loving live Pilchards or Finger Mullet. They are running so it is good time to stock up. Trolling Ballyhoo is, of course, doing well for the Mahi while Flatlining is the best technique for the Kings. Although the weather is still not ideal, anyone who has made it out is catching. The weather gets more severe past the 250 ft. mark however some anglers are going farther out to 600 ft and not finding any larger sizes out there. There have also been reports of Tuna, Yellowfin on the humps. Everything is heavy this week and those who head out should have no trouble reeling something in.

BAIT REPORT – Both Pilchards and Finger Mullet are running this week and working well as inshore bait. This week Captain Bad has select reels and combos at 15% off! Stop in and see store for details as you won’t want to miss these deals.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Snapper, Gray and Snapper, Yellowtail have been hitting in roughly 100 ft of water. They have been coming in decent sizes biting live bait. There have also been Tarpon reported from the backside as the water has not cooled down enough for them to move out at this point. This bite is expected to continue over the weekend depending on weather conditions.

OFFSHORE – The wind has still been pretty nasty in this area however some anglers were determined to get out this week. There have been some reports of Dolphin in roughly 400-500 ft. on the regular bait like Ballyhoo or similar artificials. Anglers have also seen a few Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) beginning to bite as well. There is a tournament this weekend so boaters are hoping the numbers will pick up by then, however rainy conditions may deter some anglers from heading out.

BAIT REPORT – There have been plenty of bait running the shallows this week. Angler can find Pilchards and Pinfish swimming in solid numbers.

OFFSHORE – The wind has been unbearable for most anglers this week. The fish are still there and in the same spots. Dolphin at 600-800 ft, Wahoo and Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) at 200ft and Snapper, Yellowtail anywhere between 80-200 ft in great sizes. There have been no formal reports this week as anglers have stayed off the water completely however the bite is expected to continue through next week. Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – Tarpon are biting just off the shore in good sizes. Seatrout, Spotted has remained steady this week using spoons tipped with Shrimp. Snapper, Gray are swimming and are huge. They are hitting Pinfish and live Mullet.

OFFSHORE – There have been some steady reports of Dolphin at 600-800ft. along with some Wahoo and even a few Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) here and there. The Sails have been anywhere from 200 ft and out and all three fish are biting for Ballyhoo. Snapper, Yellowtail are continuing to bite this week from 80-200 ft in good sizes as well. They are still biting cut bait on hooks or jigs.

BAIT REPORT – Mullet and Pinfish are still running thick this week, working well with inshore fish.

INSHORE – There is less action closer to shore this week. The Seatrout, Spotted bite has remained steady as anglers use spoons tipped with live Shrimps. Fishing them under corks has been working well too.

OFFSHORE – Anglers who are heading farther out this week are reeling in tons and tons of Dolphin around the 600 ft. mark. They are weighing in at roughly 25 lbs and everyone seems to be getting at least one. They are pulling Ballyhoo or lures in red and black or blue and white to find success. The Snapper, Yellowtail bite has continued to be solid anywhere from 60-120 ft. Anglers are chumming and using cut bait on the hooks or jigs. The Snapper, Gray have been spotty this week.

BAIT REPORT – There are still Mullet, Pilchards and Pinfish running along the shore and in the shallow water.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – It has been slower inshore this week. There are some Tarpon in the backwaters. Snapper, Gray and Seatrout, Spotted are always feeding on Mullet, Live Shrimp, or dead Shrimp on poppers. Spoons are working as well. The best time to be fishing is around 4 pm at high tide to find the most success.

OFFSHORE – There has been a solid Dolphin and Wahoo bite at roughly 200-800 ft. Snapper, Yellowtail and big Snapper, Gray have been hitting at roughly 100-200 ft. Live Mullet are working well for the Snapper. It’s been pretty windy so it hasn’t been easy for anglers to get out. It is expected to lay down pretty soon so results are expected to increase.

BAIT REPORT – Mullet are running right now and working well for both inshore and offshore fish.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – There have not been many offshore reports this week as weather has not permitted anglers to get out on the water. Thursday has brought a bit nicer weather so boats have headed out however there are no reports at this time. Snapper, Yellowtail will be shut down at the end of the day for commercial fishermen however recreational fishing remains open. The Yellowtail bite has been really good and anglers have brought in some good sized fish. There hasn’t been too much talk from anyone trolling for Wahoo or Kingfish (Mackerel, King) right now but we hope this will pick up after the weather lies down. The reef has been stocked with Grouper, Black and Grouper, Red as well as a good amount of Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper Mutton).

INSHORE – Not much to report but as fishing will hopefully improve over the weekend and reports will start coming back in.

BAIT REPORT – There are no bait running to report right now however if you decide to head out this weekend you can feel free to check out our Tips feature which provides additional information on the fish of your choice.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The weather has not been ideal for anglers offshore this week. We have reports of 14 ft. waves so if you would like to venture out be cautious. There were lots of Wahoo, Kingfish and Grouper coming back prior to the blow. They are expected to still be swimming after the winds settle down and the weather becomes cooler. Trolling with Live Mullet you can find any of these species around 200 ft. so you don’t have to head too far offshore. You may even find them as far inward as 100 ft. Not many anglers have made their way out this week but when conditions improve we expect to see some great fishing.

INSHORE – Conditions are reported to be worse inshore. Tarpon and Trout are steady although you will need to be very cautious inshore as tides have been high and some roads are even washed out. Once the weather settles you will find both species continue to be hitting well.

BAIT REPORT – Despite the weather Mullet are running well. Shouldn’t be a problem finding bait for when the conditions improve and you can get out.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – There have been a lot of Wahoo and Kings at about 150 feet. They’re hitting normal Dolphin rigs. Carry some wire, light cable, and some bigger reels to prepare to hit some Wahoo.

INSHORE – On the back, the Trout and Tarpon are quite heavy. The Trout are hitting Shrimp, Gulp and Spoons. They’re also hitting poppers. In the back, look for “mud volcanos”. That’s where the Mullets have stirred up the mud, and that’s where you’ll find the Trout. The Tarpon are really good right now and will hit frozen Mullet and big Shrimp as well as top water bait. The Yellowtail is doing pretty well. The Mangroves are hitting any live bait.

BAIT REPORT – Pilchards have been seen coming back through. The Finger Mullet will be through in a few weeks.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – 1000 to 1500ft offshore Dolphin are biting good. The weed patches have been really scattered, pushing the Dolphin out past the 800ft line. Black and red artificials are working really well right now. Medium to smaller Ballyhoo are working well on the Dolphin right now. The guys are seeing a lot of Triple Tail out by floating debris, throw some bait at them, and get it right in front of them. Triple Tail schools are thick with Jacks and other bait fish that will eat whatever you throw at the Triple Tails. Mangrove and Yellowtail are also doing good and seem to be everywhere around the 200ft.

INSHORE – Tarpon, Mangroves, and Trout are plentiful. Use Shrimp for live bait, and for artificial try tipped spoons with grubs or shrimp. Popping corks are always a good choice too.

BAIT REPORT – Waiting on the Mullet.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

INSHORE – In the back country there have been reports of lots of Tarpon, but they aren’t that big. Most of the fishing is for the Snapper, and you are going to want to use Squid or cut bait. If you plan on targeting the Tarpon then you want to use Finger Mullet, Pinfish, or Crab. Try to fish early in the morning to dodge the heat.

BAIT REPORT – There is no bait fish around. There is bait in the Everglades, but the heat has forced the fish to lay low. Once it rains, the water temperature will drop and they will get flushed out, so keep your eye on the weather.

Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – There’s been some good night fishing on the wrecks in 50 feet of water or more. Bottom fishing will find you catching Mangrove Snapper. There’s been reports of Dolphin in about 500 feet of water. It’s important to remember that Dolphin are a day fish and it’s key to get to them early because they sure are hungry in morning. Starting the day by trolling brightly skirted Ballyhoo is common practice in the waters off of Key Largo. Keep in mind that Ballyhoo is closed right now so you’ll have to catch it as the stores are not allowed to sell it right now.

INSHORE – Behind the resorts there’s a pile of Tarpon. The backcountry is absolutely on fire right now. Finger Mullets are getting hammered by them. For artificials, anything Mullet color in the 4,5,6 inch sizes is going to work well.

BAIT REPORT – The bait fish have been pretty scarce around here with reports saying the thicker concentrations are towards the everglades.

If you mention Pro Angler to Mike over at Captain Bad Bait & Tackle he will throw a free bag of Snapper Up Chum at you. It’s good chum too and comes in 3 pound bags which is about 3 blocks of chum. It’s the kind that holds up in the heat and you don’t have to get your hands filthy while preparing it.

Key Largo Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Dolphin fishing begins at 400, but the 800-1000 foot range is probably the best. The water is super hot right now, so the deeper the better, for everything. Mike at Captain Bad heard about 2-3 Sailfish caught while spearfishing, which is unbelievable considering how hot it is. The Mutton Snapper and Mangrove Snapper are both biting right now, and the best time to fish is early when the water is at its coolest. The Yellowtail, however, has slowed down.

INSHORE – The fishing is really quite slow, and most people have given up on it and are lobstering in the backwater. There is always going to be Trout and Tarpon out there, but they are trying not to move a muscle lest they accidentally cook themselves.

BAIT REPORT – No bait around. None.

If you mention Pro Angler at Mike over at Captain Bad Bait & Tackle he will throw a free bag of Snapper Up Chum at you. It’s good chum too and comes in 3 pound bags which is about 3 blocks of chum. Key Largo / Tavernier Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The fishing out here is always good. The Dolphin are out about 15 miles around 800 feet. You can catch pretty much anything because everything is biting out there. Buddy popped in the other day and caught a Sailfish in 200 foot of water. There has also been reports of Dolphin as close in as 400 feet, but 800 feet is a much more sure bet. The Tripletail is also phenomenal right now, with people catching 30-40 in onthe trip. The full moon hasn’t been helping, but this week it will get even better. Black and red lures are good for the Dolphin right now, and Tiger Stripe does ok, as does Blue and White. For the Wahoo go with heavier lures in purple and black. Mike can’t believe guys are catching Sailfish in weather this hot. But they are. 80-90 pounds too!

INSHORE – It was great speaking to Mike again over at Captain Bad Bait & Tackle. There are the regular fish inshore. You can catch Trout, Mangrove Snapper, Grouper, and more on both sides right now. The Mangroves are a good size too, in the 5-6 pound range.

BAIT REPORT – Not a lot of bait at all, real hot. Guy brought in 18 pinfish today and spent hours out there. Bringing a dozen and a half pinfish. You can probably catch enough for yourself but you can’t bring in 2-300. Ballyhoo is closed in august, you can catch it, but bait shops can’t sell it. There aren’t any Speedos around either.

Alot of Mike’s lures are 10-11 dollars rigged, but he’s got quality stuff for every price range, up to 200 bucks. The fishing is always good this time of year.

Key Largo Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Almost everyone in the keys forgot that fish exist during the mini lobster season we had. I heard from one of our bait shops that a charter captain went out and didn’t catch a single fish – but I don’t believe a word of that. I called up a Mike at Captain Bad Bait & Tackle to see if he had been hearing the same thing, and we agreed that the other place didn’t know what they were talking about. Luckily for us Mike knows his stuff. You are going to want to go out 800 – 1000 feet for the Dolphin, get good and far from all the boats cluttering the near waters. Out at the reef there are Mangrove Snapper and Mutton Snapper. You want to deep drop some bigger baits in discs on a knocker rig. It’s hot but that hasn’t stopped the fish; even if it has stopped the bait.

INSHORE – While most people in the inshore over the last while were focused on the lobster, the fishing is still good. The Permit are out in force and the Tarpon are here and there. Either way your bait of choice inshore is going to be Blue Crabs.

BAIT REPORT – There is bait around, but your best bet to catch it is to go when the temperature is low; either in the morning or at night. Mike has got some rigged Ballyhoo at the shop if you want to save yourself a lot of searching.

Captain Bad Bait & Tackle recently moved locations, but they are still in the same area. They are at Central Plaza and when you hit the pink plaza, get ready to turn. Bait and Tackle is on their awning, you should be able to see them.

Key Largo Fishing Report

The Mahi Mahi fishing in the upper Keys has been excellent over the coast week. We are also starting some nice sized wahoo and tuna. The seas have been flat calm and anglers have had great catches, or mahi fishing should remain very strong thru November. We recommend a full or 3/4 day trip , as the fish have been out a ways. To get more info on us go to Key Largo Fishing Adventures Facebook or click on our website.

Key Largo Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The offshore fishing is good right now. Our friends over at CUDA Bait & Tackle have heard that the Yellowtail Snapper are biting strong by the reef. Expect to find your other bottom feeders mixed in as well. The trick to bottom fishing is a bait that will stick on the hook, that’s one of the reasons why you can’t go wrong with Squid. That and the fact that everything loves to eat it. The trolling is also good, your best bet is to troll near the weedlines with a Ballyhoo for Dolphin.

INSHORE – There isn’t really too much to say about the inshore fishing right now. It is really hot out and that makes fishing slow. If you do plan on fishing try going either early or late in the day – or fish at night. The main fish you are going to be finding is Trout and Redfish.

BAIT REPORT – There is some bait around, but again, the water temperature is working against us.

Tavernier / Key Largo Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Bottom fishing is great around the reef. There is big Mutton Snapper and Grouper being caught on Speedos which are sold at Captain Bad Bait & Tackle. If you are going to go trolling for Dolphin then you are going to want to go to about 500 feet of water but it really depends on where the sea weed lines are being blown.

INSHORE – Out in the mangroves it is hard right now. There is not a lot of bait fish, no Pilchards or Pinfish right now. There is Mangrove Snapper around the mangroves. Keep your eye open for Trout too but if you manage to catch one there is a good chance you might also hook a Snook which is out of season. There are Tarpon around too. The key to good fishing right now is getting out there – remember there isn’t a lot of tide here so it doesn’t matter too much when you go fishing, it’s all about the where.

BAIT REPORT – Bait is scarce, if you find it, stop and catch it.

Key Largo Fishing Report

The weather has been warm and the fishing has been hot! From Snook, Tarpon to trout the backcountry has been producing! Remember to fish the mangrove islands at a high tide and the run offs on an outgoing tide. Plastics and live bait have both been producing!

With Shark week coming Captain Troy has been getting lots of requests for shark charters. Big Bull Sharks and Blacktips have been caught. In between the Sharks, the Trout and Redfish bite has continued to be strong. Incoming tides are pushing the fish under the mangroves.

Tavernier / Key Largo Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Everything is biting well offshore right now. If you want to bottom fish then head out the the reefs. There you’ll find Yellowtail, Grouper, and Snapper. Cut bait and live bait are working really well there now. You can try using Threadfin Herring, Sardines, Mullet or Cut Ballyhoo. If you want to troll head out to the hump where you have Dolphin, Tuna and King Mackerel. Troll Ballyhoo for Dolphin and Tuna. If you’d rather try a lure then use something that is pink and white.

INSHORE – The Tarpon and Permit are biting really well on the tried and true Crab. You’ll want to fish for these early in the morning on either tide. If you want to go artifical then you’re going to want to go early when they are feeding and aggressive. At this time it may be suitable to use a topwater plug.

BAIT REPORT – There is not much bait around. There had been more bait earlier in the month but it seems to be done now.

Key Largo Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – You’re in for a treat if you are headed out to do some bottom fishing. The bite is great for Mutton Snapper and Grouper. They are loving fresh Speedos right now. You’ll have to go pretty far out but there are some Dolphin out there if trolling is more your style. There is no live Ballyhoo around so you’ll want to buy some frozen before heading out. Inside the reef you’ll find Kingfish and Wahoo.

INSHORE – The canal tends to be hit or miss but usually you can find some Hawkfish and Tarpon. The better bet is to head to Islamorada bridges at MM74. Use cut bait, chunks and heavy sinkers because the current is strong. Try to fish when they are feeding, which is usually dusk or dawn when the water is moving.

BAIT REPORT – The hot weather has driven most of the bait fish away so there isn’t much around.

A rainy week but the Tarpon, Redfish and Trout keep on biting. The Flamingo area continues to produce great fishing. Work the mangroves on the incoming tides and the moats on the outgoing and you will keep a rod bent.
