Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

INSHORE – The bite has been steady inshore this week. For the most part everything is on schedule, aside from the recent wind which has thrown a few fish off. Trout and Redfish are resilient and when anglers are able to make it on the water they are catching fish. Target Trout during the golden hours, sunrise and sunset. With the weather and murky water you’ll want to be using live bait for attraction. The same story goes for Reds, however they are pushing up to the shallower water. They don’t necessarily mind a bit of dirty water, but they still like to keep shallow. Searching areas such as Pumphouse Road in Titusville will be key. Of course, we can’t forget about the Snook as they hold up on docks and mangrove shorelines up and down the coast. Sizes and numbers are good throughout. They too, will likely come on live bait. Deeper docks may be holding Drum, so don’t be surprised if you hook them as a bycatch. The new kid in town has been Bluefish, and they’re coming in with style. Huge sizes have invaded the beaches, in some areas scaring off other species. Pompano and Whiting can be caught from the beach as well, however they aren’t as consistent down the coast. Towards Indian River you can find them in the inlets, but be prepared for a fight.

OFFSHORE – Unsurprisingly wind has made it tough to get offshore this week however a few weather windows have allowed anglers to make quick trips and take advantage of the bite. By far, the best bite has been from the incoming Dolphin as they make their way in. Towards Daytona, anglers are still travelling quite far, to 2500 feet of water to find them. By the time we get to Indian River they are as close as 120 feet of water. The sizes are decent so far and when the weather allows they are definitely worth going after. The bottom bite is also producing this week. Amberjack have turned up from roughly 90 feet of water out of the Indian River area. Sandbar Sharks can also be found swimming offshore, but most anglers are avoiding them while targeting Ajs during the few opportunities they have. Swimming above, anglers are excited to see Kings making their way closer to shore. It shouldn’t be long before they are nearshore. Target them on the troll as they have been quite active over the past week.

INSHORE – Tripletail are in the port on the buoy lines. The inlet is holding a hot Snook (Snook, Common) bite into this week. Monster Bluefish are also around. They are New Jersey Bluefish holding up here and they are up to 20 pounds in big schools which is rare for the area. This time of year they are normally hot however they are usually up to 5 pounds. The big fish just seem to have taken a break on their way up. They will likely continue their move soon. Cobia are a bit scattered but anglers are hooking a few free swimmers here and there.

OFFSHORE – Dolphin fishing has begun to pick up from 150 to 200 feet of water, look for weedlines. Tuna are hot for anglers heading to the other side. Yellowfin (Tuna, Yellowfin) in particular are decent sizes as we head to the West side of the Gulf Stream and the bite is great.

Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is a superb variety of fish to be taken inshore this week. The Trout in particular are the main bite so far. The early morning and late evening bite has been, hands down, the best time to fish from Daytona to Port St. Lucie. A variety of setups are working to hook them including both live and artificial baits. As we move towards Titusville we see live bait being more successful. Overall there has been no trouble stacking up a few good Trout. Typically talking about Redfish goes hand in hand with Trout however this week they seem to be a bit more scattered. They are still worth targeting inshore however there are no impressive numbers to report.
Snook are a close second in terms of the hot bite. They, too, are being caught from Daytona through Port St. Lucie. They aren’t too picky in terms of what they have been taking. Artificials such as Spoolteks and Flare Hawks are working along with live Pilchards, Menhaden or Mullet. They seem to be an easy fish to land this week if you are looking for a quick catch.
The typical early Spring fish are beginning to heat up. We are seeing Sheepshead on structure, Drum in the Lagoon, along with Pompano, Bluefish and Whiting heating up on the beaches. We are also seeing tons of bait moving into the coastal areas. Everything is looking good to improve throughout the next few weeks and fire up a great Spring bite.

OFFSHORE – Now that we are finally seeing some nicer weather the bite is beginning to improve. Dolphin are the main catch from Daytona to Port St. Lucie. The sizes are great so far and the bite is steady. Anglers are targeting them anywhere from 150 feet of water and out, with some areas being just a bit closer in 90 feet. Anglers haven’t had any trouble hooking up the past week.
Kings are the next more prominent target into this week. They continue to show up, scattered with Cobia a bit closer to the coast. Anglers are trolling with live bait such as Ballyhoo or Cigar Minnows.
The bottom bite has been producing the usual Snapper and Amberjack anywhere from 60 feet and out. Cape Canaveral and Sebastian in particular have been hot areas to target them.

Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

INSHORE – Even though it’s been tough to get offshore this week there has been a fantastic bite for anglers heading to the surf or the inshore. We are seeing a nice variety of fish starting with a hot Drum bite from Daytona through Vero Beach area. As usual you can find them on structures as well as on the beaches and in the rivers. They are also taking a variety of bait setups including cut Clams, Shrimp or Fishbites. Plenty of Sheepshead are mixed in as they begin to fire up. You can fish them using similar bait setups.
As always, the typical Redfish, Trout and Snook are hanging around. Redfish seem to prefer the Island life so areas like Cucumber Island and the spoil islands will be key. Trout are improving as we move South but if you are targeting them be prepared to be heading out in the early morning for the best bite. Snook can’t seem to make up their minds so they are just about everywhere. It doesn’t take much looking to find them however hooking them will require Pinfish or Greenies this week.
Scattered reports of Flounder on the jetties as well as Pompano and Mackerel on the beach are beginning to come in and they should fire up as the weather improves. Bait is also beginning to show up which is a promising sign.

OFFSHORE – Despite tough fishing conditions there still some anglers braving the waters to take advantage of the unpressured bite. That being said, most reports are coming from closer wrecks and reefs with the bottom bite being more successful. Snapper are turning up in a variety of species this week and can be found consistently from Daytona to Vero. Head out to about 12 miles or look for ledges in 90 feet of water to find the best fish.
With the recent wind there has surprisingly been little debris floating around for Dolphin to be swimming under, so they are fairly scattered into this week. There are some nice catches turning up for anglers trolling Ballyhoo however they are nowhere near a steady bite. King Mackerel and Cobia are hit or miss throughout the region however they are out there if you are targeting them. If you can make it far enough offshore on a nice day, Sailfish have been caught out of Port St. Lucie.

Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

INSHORE – Snook season has been pretty good throughout the Central East Coast of Florida. The hottest bite this week was out of Ft. Pierce. Charter Captains and recreational anglers alike were finding success on live bait or jigs around bridges. Port St. Lucie saw good action in the spillway and locks, you can use shiners here. Nighttime Snook anglers are crediting most of the catches to using Windcheaters, Long As, Live Targets and also Shrimp. Pompano, when you can fish the surf, are decent from the beach in Daytona and Cocoa Beach but windy. They are also at the inlet around Ft. Peirce. Anglers are also doing well from the beach in port. St. Lucie fishing from Sandbar into the drop using goofy jigs or flare hawks. There has been Bluefish mixed in aswell. The Redfish and Trout bite has been steady, though not amazing. The best reports we had all week came from Mosquito Lagoon, where fish were tailing when the wind took a break. The bite was also good near Queen’s Cove on an outgoing tide, and Port St. Lucie saw both Trout and Redfish doing alright to the South.

OFFSHORE – Anglers saw a few bumpy days this week. We would normally expect reports on Mahi, Sailfish, Snappers and Grouper at this time of year. Blame the weather for a limited number of fishable days. Wahoo fishing was slow but should pick up out of Daytona as the full moon sets in. Amberjack have fished well from 80 to 130 feet of water. A live pinfish or other live bait sent to the bottom should do the trick. Red Snapper have been caught and released all over, especially off of Daytona. There are also a lot of reports of Kingfish caught this past week. Good numbers, combined with some poor seas, have kept a lot of angler in 60 to 90 feet of water trolling Clarkspoons, Bluerunners and Threadfins.

Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – Trout fishing has been much better here than for Northeast Florida. If you like Trout fishing with live bait, expect to get into some Snook as well. Since the water has been warm, the Snook are fired up from Daytona to anywhere south of that. Most of the big Snook have been caught in the high current areas such as inlets. There’s still some Pompano being caught from the surf throughout the region, they just aren’t on fire. Whiting are mixed in with the Pompano and you can fish some inshore structures for Sheepshead.

OFFSHORE – A few bumpy days kept the boats close and the focus on Cobia, Kings and Ajs. Cape Canaveral landings saw decent number of King Mackerel and Cobia landed this week. Most of the Kings came off of 8A or Pelican, Cobia from fishing structures. There hasn’t been much talk of Cobia on Rays yet, we’re going to have to stick to deeper water for now. It can’t hurt, however, to keep an eye out for them when fishing buoys for Tripletail. Amberjack continued to fish well when the boats could get to at least 80 feet of water. Some popular baits were live Pinfish and Pigfish.

Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – Shallow water anglers around Titusville and into Mosquito Lagoon had a few days of good Redfish, Black Drum and Trout fishing. Most of the fish were caught on the flats. Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – Beach fishing has been decent throughout the region. Whiting, Bluefish and Pompano are being caught in good numbers up around New Smyrna Beach. As you go South towards Cocoa Beach you will begin to see more Redfish, Black Drum and Sharks such as Blacktip, Spinner and Blacknose on the beach. Palm Bay and Melbourne area in particular has a good number of Sharks chasing Whiting on the beach.
Inlet fishing from Palm Bay down to Port St. Lucie has been really productive for Snook anglers. Jack Crevalle are also being caught while Snook fishing. Most of the Jacks have been caught South of Vero beach.
Trout and Redfish haven’t been spectacular by any means however they are around any of the usual inshore flats and creeks all throughout Indian River. Shrimp, MirrOdines and DOAs will hook them.


OFFSHORE – For anyone looking to catch some Wahoo on the high speed troll they can travel to the gulf stream out of Daytona / New Smyrna area or South of Port St. Lucie. Dolphin have been really scattered. The best areas to head out of will be Palm Bay / Melbourne or farther South of Stuart. Kingfish and Sailfish have been decent when the boats can get out. Successful boats have launched out of Port Canaveral, Fort Pierce and South.
Offshore and nearshore bottom fishing was strongest from Palm Bay down to Vero Beach. Mostly Lanes and Vermillion Snapper are turning up. As you move farther South Mangroves are mixed in. Particularly off of Stuart there are plenty of catch and release Triggerfish. The only real word on Cobia came in from anglers fishing the wrecks and reefs out of Vero Beach.

Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – In the Lagoon, there are some schools of Redfish (Drum, Red) and Black Drum showing back up on the flats this week. We are seeing them around the cooler points of the day. Try the early morning or evening bites. We are seeing big Redfish and Black Drum taking live Shrimp at the Haulover Canal. Down the river, the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are beginning to show up with Drum around the bridges. Schools of Drum (Drum, Black) are running the surf as well. INSHORE – A lot of Black Drum (Drum, Black) are around the bridges and causeway in the Lagoon. Big Reds are mixed in with with Sheepshead in Haulover. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are biting well down South. Cocoa Beach and further South are doing well. Sand Fleas are sporadic on the beach. If you can find them, use them. They are slower to the North. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are on the flats mixed with the Reds (Drum, Red). They can also be found in the river. 3 ft of water is key. INSHORE – Cucumber Island and Tiger Shoals are on fire. The beach is slowing down but 1 and 10 are still productive. The winds have made fishing tough. Black Drum (Drum, Black) are biting well around the pier at night from roughly 11-2am. Blue Crab are working well to hook them. Redfish (Drum, Red) are taking Shrimp or cut Mullet. Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – Tiger Shoals and Whale’s Tail is are the only reliable places to fish the Lagoon this week. Reds (Drum, Red) are biting but are picky. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are doing well. Most are small but are showing up in good numbers. Once you move to the canal we are seeing big Reds and Black Drum. Towards the Railroad bridge we are seeing Black Drum (Drum, Black) at night. At the Titusville Pier, Shrimp is doing well to pick up nighttime Black Drum. During the day small Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Catfish (Catfish, Hardhead) have been caught. At the beach, parking lot 1 and 10 are producing Pompano (Pompano, Florida), Bluefish and small Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – In Mosquito Lagoon and the Mouth of the Haulover we are seeing nice Drum (Drum, Black). Towards Tiger Shoals we are seeing some Reds (Drum, Red). By Whales Tail they are stacked up but are providing a tough bite. In the canal we are seeing Black Drum and big Reds taking cut Mullet and Crab. Around Titusville Bridge the Black Drum are biting well at night. Number 1 beach is doing well for Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and some Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). 7 is also getting good Pompano and Whiting as is 11. Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – There has been some slot Reds (Drum, Red) in the Lagoon. Tiger Shoals and Whales Tail are great areas. Live Shrimp is the key to hooking them, especially in the morning. There are a lot of Drum (Drum, Black) in the canal. They can be caught both in the morning and at night. The beach is great for Pompano (Pompano, Florida), Bluefish and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – Haulover canal has been good for Drum (Drum, Black) and Redfish (Drum, Red). Live Blue Crabs are working well along with Fresh Dead Shrimp. Throughout Mosquito Lagoon we are seeing schools of Red and Black Drum tailing together. Look for the birds diving on the Shrimp to find the fish. First thing in the morning or into the evening has been producing the best bite. The beach is on fire for Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) taking Sand fleas. INSHORE – The fishing has been great in this area as of late. Anglers are heading out in the morning for the best bite. It really depends on the weather as well. The bite can continue on all day when conditions are favorable. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) are fairly active. Trout are preferring Shrimp. Reds are a bit more scattered so a lot of anglers aren’t focusing on them. Drum (Drum, Black) and Sheepshead are also doing well. The Drum are mostly in Haulover Canal. INSHORE – There has been a lot of Drum (Drum, Black), big Sheepshead and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) caught here and there. Haulover is doing well along with the South end of Mosquito Lagoon. Most anglers are heading out at first light or in the evening. Live Blue Crab and Shrimp are your most productive baits this week. Blue Crab are particularly good for the Redfish. The beach has been holding Bluefish and Pompano (Pompano, Florida). There’s a lot of Sand Fleas around and they are a great bait for Pompano. INSHORE – Haulover is hit or miss this week. A lot of the fishing has been the same. The Lagoon is holding a few schools of nice Reds (Drum, Red). You’ll just have to make sure you’re working all the areas because you won’t get much if you don’t cover water. The beach is beginning to pick up. A few Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are coming out of South County with a bit of Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). The bite should pick up by the end of the month. Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – In Mosquito Lagoon we are seeing a hit or miss bite. The water is high but we are seeing Reds and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) near Beacon 42, near Tiger Shoals around the pole and troll zone using cut bait and live Finger Mullet. First light is the best time to fish. Haulover canal is on fire for oversized Redfish (Drum, Red). They are well over 40 inches using live Blue Crab and cut Mullet. Rig them on the bottom using them whole or cutting them in half. Live or frozen is good. In the river we are seeing Black Drum (Drum, Black) and Sheepshead all the way to Melbourne. The Sheepshead are huge. The Drum run all the way to the Causeway. On the beach there are small Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and good Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish). Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – It’s very windy this week! Redfish (Drum, Red) are scattered. Black Drum (Drum, Black) are biting with the occasional Snapper (Snapper, Gray) around the Titusville pier. There are not a lot of them. There are also some Reds coming out of Haulover. The surf is blown out. Normally we would see Pompano (Pompano, Florida), Jacks (Jack, Crevalle), Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Blacktip Sharks (Shark, Blacktip). Following the hurricane anglers have had trouble making it back out. The lagoon water is dirty and the levels are about 2.5 ft higher. INSHORE – The beach just opened back up (partially) and we haven’t heard any word from the area. The Lagoon has high water from the storm. Stay really close to the shoreline as it is deep right off the bank. The fish are hanging very close to the shoreline. There are some nice Reds (Drum, Red) taking paddle tails by Grand Slam in Peppermint Crunch. Tarpon are beginning to show up South of Port St. John and 528 in the Indian River. Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – The weather has kept a lot of anglers off the water recently. Prior to the system we were seeing quite a few Seatrout (Seatrout, Spotted) at the edge of the dropoff in 3 ft. The South end of the Lagoon was producing Reds (Drum, Red) but a lot of them have moved North. There are a lot of big Trout in the area as well. Free Lining Pigfish, Pinfish or throwing artificials has been the best bet. There are still Black Drum (Drum, Black) hitting off the pier although they did slow down a bit. They are up to 30 lbs. The beaches are blown out. The Pompano (Pompano, Florida) should show up any time after the storm clears. INSHORE – In the lagoon there are Reds and Trout. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are especially great on Grand Slam baits as well as Pinfish and Grunts. The early morning first light bite is best. The bite slows down around 9am. Work the shorelines or holes to find them. The Reds (Drum, Red) are tailing this week, first thing in the morning as well. There are plenty of them. Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) bite has picked up recently now that the surf temperature is down. The inlet is still holding nice Mangroves (Snapper, Gray), Redfish (Drum, Red) and a few Flounder (Flounder, Southern). The Mangroves are productive in the river. Snook (Snook, Common) are on all the bridges this week. In the Lagoon we are seeing Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) being caught on live Shrimp. Search the potholes and the bare areas in the grass flats. There are quite a few tailing Reds in the area as well however they are difficult to find in the dirty water. Live Shrimp will work for them as well. The early day bite has been most productive. OFFSHORE – The fishing has been great. Anglers are tearing up the Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) and Cobia. There have been some nice Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) turn up as well. They are about 30-35 miles out. Anglers are picking up Dolphin while trolling Ballyhoo as well.

Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – Drum (Drum, Black) are going crazy on the Eastern Shoreline from the Titusville Pier to Veteran’s Memorial Park. There are some Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) mixed in. The bite is hot in the early morning and late afternoon. The pier is great at night. Near the Taco Bell area there is a concrete pad that has produced a hot bite. Haulover has produced Black Drum, monster Reds (Drum, Red) and a lot of Catfish (Catfish, Gafftopsail). Tiger Shoals in the Lagoon are holding schooling Reds on the canal side. They are a little picky this week. Shrimp and Ladyfish are the best bait. The beach has Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) that are taking Shrimp, Clams, Fish bites and Sand Fleas.

INSHORE – There has been a lot of big Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) in the South Lagoon. Drum (Drum, Black) are all over the flats in the river this week. They are tailing and can be difficult to catch. Dead Shrimp on the bottom will hook them. The beach is slow however there are a few reports of Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) here and there. Blacktip Sharks (Shark, Blacktip) are mixed in which is typical of this time of year. You may even find some in the river. If you head South towards the Fort you may find some Bull Sharks (Shark, Bull) that are breeding in the river.

INSHORE – The wind and rain has kept a lot of anglers off the water. Those who have braved the conditions are reporting Bluefish from the surf. Big Bull Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) mixed in with some small sizes are also swimming. The flowing pipes on the Wildlife Refuge has some Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red). This is the main focus. The water is still a bit murky due to the algae bloom. Cut baits and anything with scent is working better so the fish don’t need to see the bait in the dirty water. We hope to see conditions pick up once the weather passes.

INSHORE – So far this week, things are quite slow. In the Lagoon and at the mouth of the Haulover Canal, the fishing is adequate. There are Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) in the Haulover Canal, but you have to be there early in the morning or late at night if you want to catch them. In the mouth of the lagoon, anglers are catching Redfish and Drums (Drum, Black). The beach this week has been really slow and the fish don’t seem to be biting. Hopefully we will be seeing more fish in the area soon as the water begins to warm up

INSHORE – Drums (Drum, Black) have been seen biting at Haulover and tend to bite the most near night time close to the pier. INSHORE – The lagoon is hot this week around Tiger Shoals. We are seeing Reds (Drum, Red), Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Drum (Drum, Black). The Haulover Canal is hit and miss. Catfish (Catfish, Gafftopsail & Catfish, Hardhead) and Drum are coming out of here. All the Reds are oversized. The Pier is great at night for the Drum (Drum, Black) bite. The beach is producing some Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Blues (Bluefish). We expect this bite to continue into the weekend.

Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – In Mosquito Lagoon area Reds (Drum, Red) and Black Drum (Drum, Black) are on the flats. The large gator Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have moved up on the flats as well. Reds and Trout are loving live bait. Black Drum are hitting live Shrimp, Crabs as well as dead Crabs and dead Shrimp. Towards Titusville and Cocoa area the beach is hit and miss. It’s still a mixed bag. A few Redfish are on the beach along with some Sheepshead and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have pretty much moved away already. We expect this bite to continue into the weekend.

INSHORE – The lagoon has been hot around Tiger Shoals. The water is clean and you can sight cast. Peacock’s Pocket, Gator Creek and Catfish Loop have also been productive, especially at night. Coming off the full moon has helped. Sharks (Shark, Bull) are turning up in the area. Redfish (Drum, Red) and some Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have also been caught. Everything else is in Haulover Canal. The beach is getting Whiting (Kingfish, Southern), Bluefish and a few Pompano (Pompano, Florida).

Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Redfish (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are hitting cut bait. Live bait is working here and there. Nice sized Trout upwards of 20 inches are the consistent catches in the Lagoon. Haulover Canal has nice sized Drum (Drum, Black) on live or dead Crabs. Snook (Snook, Common) bite is great in the port near Cocoa Beach. Tripletail are just outside on the buoys. The Bluefish have moved in and they are large. The Mangrove (Snapper, Gray) bite has been good as well as the Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) bite that has moved back into the port. Heads up! INSHORE – The Redfish (Drum, Red) are on fire this week using cut bait. The water is still low and dirty but anglers are catching plenty of fish as well as bit of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). INSHORE – Fishing has been great in the area. The fish kill is about 20 miles South and has not affected the area. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Reds (Drum, Red) are here year round. Reds have been particularly good the past few weeks. They are hitting just about any time of day however first and last light provides an advantage. Anglers are throwing just about anything to get them as well. Shrimp, cut Mullet, topwater plugs and soft plastics are all working. They are the main focus for anglers this week. Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – The inlets are producing Tarpon and Snook (Snook, Common) this week. The bite has been particularly hot at night. The best bait to throw are live Shrimp or Blue Crabs. The daytime bite is great for Mangrove Snappers (Snapper, Gray) around the bridges and rock piles. The inside reefs are holding some more Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail) and the bite is great. Chumming at night is the best way to reel a few in.

OFFSHORE – Dolphin have been showing up from 900-1200 ft this week. There is also still a mixed bag of Sails (Billfish – Sailfish), Kings (Mackerel, King) and Wahoo as well. They can be found anywhere from 90 to 450 ft. They are pretty scattered all over the place.

INSHORE – Pompano, Florida are running great on the beach this week. Live Sand Fleas or fresh, dead Shrimp will be the best method to hook them. Sand Fleas are more productive. INSHORE – Capt. Billy Davenport, of Vero Tackle Marina, said the surf fishing for Pompano, Florida is very good with most of the fish being caught on Clam Strips. Anglers are reporting catching limits at beaches down to Avalon Beach. You can also fish the deep flats with soft sided lures for best catches of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red).

OFFSHORE – Anglers are searching for Cobia, which have been elusive this season. Kingfish (Mackerel, King) have been in 60 ft out of Sebastian.

INSHORE – Capt. Billy Davenport, of Vero Tackle Marina, said the deeper docks of the Indian River Lagoon have been producing Drum, Black and Redfish (Drum, Red) catches for anglers fishing with live Shrimp rigged with a split shot on the line for a little weight to help it reach bottom. Fish the channel edges, which have been good for Snapper, Gray measuring up to 12-14 inches. At Sebastian Inlet, Snook, Common and Redfish have been taking live Pinfish and Pigfish, at least when the whales aren’t around.

INSHORE – It’s been a little windy in the area as of late but anglers who head out are finding shelter with their back to the Southwest this week. The Reds (Drum, Red) are schooling up along with some Drum, Black. Shrimp has been the key bait to hook them. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are doing well too. Anglers are throwing cut Mullet. The Trout are beginning to show up just about everywhere. Anything with a gold fleck will hook all Drum, Reds and Trout. The beach is hot for Pompano, Florida and big Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). If you are having trouble finding clean water this week the best places will be towards the North.

INSHORE – Drum (Drum, Black) are starting at the North end of the Haulover by the creek as well as by the Titusville Pier at night. Their sizes have been consistently decent at this point. Early morning or late evening has produced the best bite. Blue Crabs are the hot bait for the Drum however Shrimp, Clams and Squid are a great alternative. Everything is eating right now. Peacock’s Pocket is also holding some great Reds (Drum, Red) that are hitting all day long. Chunking Mullet and Ladyfish has been the best method to hook them this week.

INSHORE – The water is a bit dirty so far this week which has not made fishing easy. Drum, Black are coming in the mouth of Haulover along with some Reds (Drum, Red). INSHORE – The water is a bit muddy in this area but the fish are happy. There can be Reds (Drum, Red) found in the shallow water this week and they have moved from chasing small bait fish to loving Shrimp and Crabs. There are also some good sized Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) being caught in similar areas on the same bait. Their size should increase over the next few months when the water gets colder. Anglers can expect 10 lb fish at that point. There have been no signs of Drum, Black so far this week.

Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – Although we are into December, the fishing is still in a Fall pattern. The fish have not schooled up yet as the water is not cold enough. This means they are still fairly scattered around the grass flats so far. The Reds (Drum, Red) have been biting really well and most anglers aren’t having any trouble catching tons of them quickly. They have been the focus as they are so plentiful. They are good sizes between 4-10 lbs. This week, live Mullet is the bait of choice and alternatively soft plastic jerk baits and spoons have done well for anglers saving their bait. There has also been a great Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite as the slightly cooler water has pushed some fatties in this week. They have been hanging around the sand spots so far. Trout are all swimming in the shallows as well making it easy for anglers to see them in the clean water. They are all good sizes from 4-7 lbs. They are loving free-lined Mullet however jerkbaits and topwater plugs are working well as an artificial alternative. It’s not cold enough for the Drum (Drum, Black) to school up yet either however the Snook, Common have moved into their winter holes at this point making them an easier find. The bite has been decent so far however the next few cold fronts will push them all into the holes and things will heat up. We expect to see some cold weather in the next few weeks which should change the fish pattern and school them up.

Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – Fishing has not been easy in this area lately. The recent horrible weather conditions have brought in high levels and muddied water. This has sent the fish on the move. There are great numbers and sizes of Snook (Snook, Common),Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), Mangos (Snapper, Gray) and Drum (Drum, Black) swimming the inshore however they are extremely difficult to locate with these conditions. Anglers really need to cover water here. The best bite comes out of the early morning and into the evening as the afternoon water has the fish moving too much in a lot of depth that they will not notice your bait as easily. Shrimp under a popping cork is a great choice for bait, or alternatively a free lining a live Mullet. Anything live and moving will show to be more productive than artificial this week. Everything is simply hit and miss.

Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – Improving winds and sea conditions have allowed anglers the opportunity to capitalize on the fall bite. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) and Drum (Drum, Red) are making their annual appearance at the Inlet and surrounding areas. Flounder and Drum are taking Mud Minnows, as well as Finger Mullet, Live Shrimp and Clams. High-tide Tarpon action has been reported at both the South and North jetties, although the Snook, Common bite has slowed somewhat. With our water temps starting to lower, we expect that the Black Drum (Drum, Black) and Sheepshead bite will pick up shortly. Offshore angling has been limited due to the recent cold front passing through that created high winds, high seas and daily small craft warnings. We expect the weather pattern to change over the course of the next week and hope to have more to report soon. Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River North Fishing Report

INSHORE – Winds have been blowing all week and the NOAA has issued small craft warnings for most of the week, however, the bite is ON at the Inlet. We have had reports of Snook, Snook, Snook – slot and C/R – coming over the rails at the inlet. In addition to Snook, Common, we are seeing Jacks (Jack, Crevalle), Reds (Drum, Red), Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish), Margate, and Flounder (Flounder, Southern). With the water temperatures starting to cool down, we can anticipate the Black Drum (Drum, Black) and Sheepshead bite to pick up.

OFFSHORE – Offshore action has been limited this week due to the high winds and spots of rain which are expected to last through the next few days.

BAIT REPORT – Live shrimp is the preferred bait for Snook. They love it…..but fortunately, so do a lot of other species. As true with this season we are starting to see a decline in live mullet both at the Inlet and in the River, however, don’t hesitate to throw your nets for what be remaining. During the fall, the mullet begin to school together (males and females) preparing for the ocean migration offshore to spawn. We do expect to see them back in the River and the Inlet come Winter and again in Spring. INSHORE – The inlets have been pretty active as of late. Snook, Common and Reds (Drum, Red) have been good on the beach and should continue through the weekend if the wind from the incoming front isn’t too bad. They are all loving live Shrimp which is fantastic as they are running thick right now. Great conditions are expected over the next month before the cold front sets in. Indian River Fishing Report

Today, Friday, October 16, 2015 at the Inlet, it is quite windy. We have winds out of the Northeast at 15 mph, gusting to 19 and there is a moderate chop on the water. We are expecting the winds to pick up over the next three days and bring choppy water to the Inlet, and rough water offshore by Monday. We have reports of Reds, Jacks, Snook, Trout, Pompano and some Black Drum.

Our customers and Captains are reporting Spanish Mackerel and Mahi-Mahi at offshore at 60′. Shark, Blues and Tarpon have also been spotted. Blues, Flounder and Tarpon at the beach.

Indian River Fishing Report

Even though Hurricane Joaquin is unpredictable, right now it looks as though it will avoid much of Southeast Florida. The majority of the reports that we are receiving are that the hurricane will stay offshore which will create unusually high winds and seas. Currently, winds are blowing out of the Northwest at 6mph, gusting to 11mph and the water has a moderate chop. This could change over the course of the next few days, however, we are expecting a nice weekend for inshore fishing.

SEBASTIAN INLET/INSHORE:

This morning the north jetty has been crowded with anglers reeling in Reds. Oversized and slot Snook, which are hitting Mullet and live shrimp. Big Jacks, Blues, Tarpon, Trout, Spanish Mackerel and even a few Flounder have been caught in the Inlet. Yesterday was a big day for Reds, Snook, Jacks, Blues, Trout, Tarpon, Margate, Spanish Mackerel and Ladyfish. A few reports of decent Flounder catches coming on Finger Mullet, with a few 8 to 10 pounders in the mix. Heavy wave action and moderate winds will make for challenging conditions in some areas, yet are not expected to slow this fall feeding fiesta. Don’t neglect the night bite, when Windcheaters, big Bombers, and Bucktails draw hard hits from slot and trophy sized Snook and Reds. A good landing net will save lots of trouble bringing in feisty fish around treacherous rocks and strong wind driven waves and tidal current.

Look for wind sheltered water and the deep side of sand bars for good catches of slot reds and keeper trout. Live shrimp, DOA Shrimp, Gold spoons, and of course live Finger Mullet and Moharra have all yielded rod bending action through out our area. Wading docks and pitching at stucture is a good bet on the west bank of the Indian River during a Westerly blow like we expect this weekend. Mangrove Snapper catches have slowed a bit this past month yet are still being taken on live and dead bait, especially shrimp and moharras, and smallish finger mullet. The lighter the terminal tackle the better for snapper as these fish have keen eye site and are hook shy.

Beaches will remain blown out with lumpy swells. Better chance of walking the beach and finding some sea beans or cool flotsam and jetsam than catching a fish if the surf line is messy.

Indian River Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Cobia are running at 90′ using chum blocks. There are also a good number of Kingfish, Triggerfish, Bonita and Shark biting. Both Tiger shark and Bull shark are giving our anglers a run. Captain Rick Marchetti, of Surf Rider, told us that two Tiger sharks brought his anglers good luck, and a limit of big Cobia when they swam up behind his boat last Sunday. INSHORE – Snapper, Reds and Snook are showing up in the bite at the Inlet. Mangrove, Mutton and Vermillion Snapper can be found inshore around structure and in the inlet channel, as well as Reds, Pompano, Flounder, Tripletail, Jack, and Trout. Mangrove shorelines and flats call for early fishing for Reds, Snapper and Trout on live pig fish, pin fish and artificials. Work dropoffs in the afternoon. Snook are best caught at night using live shrimp. Everyone fishing for Snapper and Snook landed their limits.
Bait fish such as finger mullet, mojarra and greenies are schooling at the inlet. Anglers tossing 1 1/2 ounce silver spoons are getting a few good hookups. We recommend using a “Tim Wade” cast net to catch live bait fish. Tim’s nets are custom made and handcrafted with the best materials available. Indian River Fishing Report

INSHORE: In the river, mangrove snapper catches are consistent around structure. Trout and Reds are feeding on the flats early on lures, jigs, and live bait. Later in the day, search out ​deep water and try chunk bait or jigs. Inlet catches have been spotty. Mangroves and C/R Snook have been the best bet. Use live shrimp or shrimp tipped Doc’s Goofy Jigs for good results.

OFFSHORE: Snapper bite is on, Cobia still holding out to 90′, where Dolphin bite is happening around nice weed lines.

BEACH: On the beach, C/R Snook are biting live spots, pigs, and artificials. Snook are often found very close to shore. Avoid overcasting and target dawn and dusk low light conditions for best action.

Indian River Fishing Report

INSHORE: The last couple of days have brought a lot of sunshine and calm waters to the Inlet at Sebastian. Mangrove, Mutton and Vermillion Snapper are still biting although patience is required. Anglers are reporting that many are shorts and had to be released but they were able to meet their limit of 5 each day. Several of our regular Inlet anglers are reporting Sheepshead, Reds, Tarpon, Spotted Trout and Jacks, along with C/R Snook. Mangrove Snapper were hitting consistently on greenies on Friday, 8/14/15. Shrimp, small bait fish like pins and pigs, small or cut crab on light tackle will lure the Mangrove Snapper to you.

OFFSHORE: Our Captains are reporting that Kingfish are running at 50′. There are also Cobia, Triggerfish, and Mutton and Mangrove Snapper at 40′ offshore. Of course, our Captains and regular anglers use Frozen Squid, Spanish Sardines, and Ballyhoo for bait. We are also hearing occasional reports of Black Tip Sharks primarily off of the beach.

INSHORE – There’s been lots of Trout being caught in the river. Cut Mullet and Ladyfish are going to help with success. IT’s important to remember that with this heat, you’re going to want to fish slow. If opting to throw artificials, Grand Slam Peppermint Crunch will work well and pearl colored plastics are great, too!

BAIT REPORT – Lots of small Mullet are being found along the banks and shores. Right now you can also find Pinfish in there as well.

Titusville / Cocoa / Indian River / Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

INSHORE – The tiger shoals are really good right now north of beacon 42 in the lagoon. The Tarpon are at the north end of the Indian river near Scotsmore. Darren at Action Bait & Tackle hasn’t seen any Red or Black Drum over the course of the last four days. The Tarpon are biting hard on Mullet and Pinfish. The Lagoon is going to be the same as the river, but in there you are going to want to fish the flats. If you do find some Redfish they will probably also be biting on the Mullet.

BAIT REPORT – Mullet and pinfish are in the river, you can catch your own but not a ton. Mullet run hasn’t come through.

Sebastian / Indian River Fishing Report

INSHORE – Angela at Native Tackle Supply has been seeing a good number of Redfish caught inshore on live shrimp. You can also use the DOA and Gulp Shrimp. Some great fishing is to be had underneath the mangroves on the high tide. Typical of summer our anglers are catching reds, black drum, sheepshead, snook (release), trouts, jack, and some pompano. Our Captains report catches of Bonita and Jack near the Spoil Islands.

OFFSHORE – The ever-changing water temperature due to the thermocline has made the bottom fishing a little slow. There are still big fish out there. Amberjacks, Vermillion Snapper and Mangrove Snapper are all down 90 or so feet, but the cooler water keeps them under the rocks. Slow troll with jigs or live bait for Kings and Dolphin in 90-100 feet of water has been excellent. The Cobia and Kingfish are closer in at 60 feet of water. Of course, shark are in the inlet and they love to eat your bait or your catch.

LOBSTER SEASON COMING – July 29-30th is lobster mini-season for sport diving. The regular season opens August 6, 2015 through March 31, 2016. During the pre-season (July 29-30), the bag limit is 12 per person in Indian River County. A saltwater license is required with a $5 lobster stamp. Licenses can be obtained at the local tax office, Walmart, or on-line atwww.myfwc.com. Native Tackle Supply, LLC is geared up with lobster kits, ticklers and snares so be sure to stop in and get yours today.

Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

LAGOON – The water level is low right now. If you can find bait, you can find fish. Keep an eye on the water clarity and respond accordingly; if it gets murky go with something that will catch their attention like a chartreuse or new penny if you are going to go artificial. There is going to be the usual suspects in the Lagoon.

BAIT REPORT – Finding and imitating the local bait is going to be key. All of the good fishing is around the bait right now. The hard part is finding them. Try a bunch of spots and then once you see a big school sabiki them up and use them as bait.

Sebastian / Indian River Fishing Report

INSHORE – Jenna over at Native Tackle Supply has been seeing a good number of Redfish caught inshore on the DOA, and Gulp Shrimp – but if you prefer live bait then work either Shrimp or Mullet. Some great fishing is to be had underneath the mangroves on the high tide. That is when you find most of the slot redfish. The trout is biting near the spoil islands straight out ahead from there shop at Mile Marker (MM) 76; make sure you bring some shrimp.

Amberjacks, Vermillion Snapper and Mangrove Snapper are all down 90 or so feet, but the cooler water keeps them under the rocks. Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

INSHORE – The fish is really good right now, the brown tide has moved on and the water clarity is getting back to normal. There is still a bit of colour but not on the flats, reports Captain Brian from Mosquito Lagoon Fish Camp & Charters. If you don’t plan on fishing the flats then it is going to be a good idea to bring something a little brighter to grab the fishes attention or perhaps some fish scent. The fishing on the flats is quite good for Redfish and Trout. The Live bait is working and in the mornings they are so greedy that you can hit them with a topwater plug.

BAIT REPORT – The main baitfish that everything is biting on early in the morning is the finger Mullet in the lagoon. This will be your primary live bait. There is also a big run of live Shrimp right now.

Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River Fishing Report

The heat is on along the Indian River Lagoon coast of Florida and the summer doldrums have arrived, so be sure to get an early start if you can and hydrate and cover up as much as possible while out on the water. 
On the inshore flats this past week, the conditions are as pretty as they get at first light, and my anglers have yielded some quality catches. The bite has not been on fire, but it has been consistent. The water levels have been up in the north IRL making it possible to fish the very edge of the shoreline where the snook have been hanging out. For us on the northern reaches of the Indian River Lagoon, snook fishing can be challenging as we are on the northern range of their habitat, but due to the warm winters we have experienced these past few years, our snook bite has become more consistent. The snook and small tarpon have been holding along the shoreline, so push in close and see what you can find. 
As mentioned earlier in this report, the summer doldrums have arrived and the near-shore bite is firing up. The pogies are starting to show up along the beach and the waters are loaded with bay anchovies (glass minnows). With all of this bait in the water, the predators are showing up in good numbers. This past week, anglers aboard Three Quarter Time jumped a number of 100 pound plus tarpon as well as the typical jacks, sharks and bonito. When speaking about bonito, there is tons of schooling fish busting glass minnows, so it is time for the ultimate fly fishing experience, catching these speedsters, or should I say knuckle busters, on fly. 
Lastly, as the full moon approaches, it is time for the spawning kingfish to move into the shallow water along the beach, so break out your stinger rigs and get you some smoker kings and silver kings

Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River Fishing Report

LAGOON – Water clarity continues to be an issue at the lagoon as the brown tide has cut the visibility down to negligible. Getting the fish’s attention will require scent and sensation. Shiny lures that crackle or cause vibration in the water will attract fish to the area. Once inside the striking area, fresh and live or cut bait is a must to produce a strike. Alternatively, Procure or another scent gel will get results.

INSHORE – Along the Indian River, Captain Bucky Goldman of Bag’em Fishing charters continues to to use a cut bait presentation including Lady Fish and Carb as well as live Finger Mullet to bag Redfish up to 25 pounds. The high humidity and water temperatures reaching the low 80’s has not slowed the trout down too much although the larger, more common schools have been over fished creating lock jaw in those numbers. Smaller, more isolated schools that haven’t been exposed to a regular diet of lures are likely to be more aggressive and will offer a better rate of success. Pigfish on the edge of flats where the water clarity is good is still a productive technique.

Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River Fishing Report

LAGOON – The water in the lagoon is really dirty right now due to the brown tide. You are going to have to work to get the fish’s attention when the water is this dirty so it’s best if you can use cut bait or something that the fish can smell. If you can’t get cut bait you’ll want to go for a lure that is shiney and add some Procure to it.

INSHORE – In the Indian River Captain Bucky from Bag ‘Em Fishing Charters has been throwing chunks of Crab, Lady Fish, and live Finger Mullet to catch Redfish. Just the other day he caught 5 of them in the 15-25 pound range. Using Pigfish on the edges of the flats he was also able to bag some nice big Trout. Fishing on the flats tends to be so good because of the clean water.

Indian River Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The bite is hot for Dolphin and you don’t have to go too far to find them. They are being caught in 80-140 feet of water! Kingfish also aren’t too far out either, a 40 pound Kingfish was caught in 75 feet of water. Both of those fish live bait on the surface so troll for them with ballyhoo, making use of different coloured skirts. They are particularly fond of pink, blue and green skirts.

INSHORE – Inshore you’ll find some small Reds, Trout and Mangroves. You’ll always find Snook underneath the shaded docks . There you’ll also Black find Drum moving through the docks, right across the street from the bait shop where Caleb from Native Tackle and Supply recommends trying night fishing when you’ll catch huge snook. Live bait like Threadfin, Mullet, or Shrimp right in front of their face works the best, as the Snook tend to spook on artificials.

BAIT REPORT – At the outgoing tide at the inlet you’ll find really think baits like Greenies, Threadfins, and Pogies.

Mosquito Lagoon / Indian River Fishing Report

INSHORE – Towards the edge of some of the bars for reds Big schools of red, water is pretty clear, a lot of Tarpon up and around there. Black drum if you know where to look. Put your time into figure out what is where the clean water is. Haulover canal is great, but it is bait and wait, no real game to it says Captain Bucky. Can’t go wrong with live finger mullet, cut finger mullet, cut ladyfish, blue crabs, chunks of blue crabs, live or dead shrimp.

BAIT REPORT – Finger mullet should be there to catch but sometimes its hit and miss. If finger mullet is everywhere this time of year so search around. Find clear clean water and you will do fine.

Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

You know the saying you only miss something when it’s gone. Well have your Power Pole shallow water anchor remote battery go dead and not have a spare, You will surely miss it beyond words. People this anchor will spoil you like a garage door opener or a remote for your TV. Even more important, if you anchor with an old conventional anchor on a grass flat it tends to drag and rip up the grass doing damage to the grass bed. I could go on and on here there are so many reasons to have one.

Now the fishing in the lagoon is going off if you are there at the right time. Pigfish are the perfect size now and the trout see them as candy to a kid. If you don’t hit them in one place go to the next until you find where the trout are holding. In the mix you will catch bluefish ladyfish redfish jacks mangrove snapper black sea bass and maybe even a goliath grouper or a mackerel.
The flats are still producing many nice size redfish and you can catch them many ways from chunking to fly. I like sight casting the best because you have to place the bait right where it has to be. A Johnson spoon is a good way but make sure you rip it so it causes a vibration. It is a good research lure when fishing a new place that you don’t know if the fish are there. I use one when the water is dirty and you can’t see the fish as well. It also makes a sluggish fish attack because it pisses them off. They can’t stand the spoon getting away from them. It must really work on their lateral line.

Black drum was another species we caught this week a small crab or shrimp work the best but they will eat a Gulp shrimp or crab as well.

Tarpon are making their way into the river system and you can catch them if you try. Remember think like a fish to catch fish or just call me and I will guarantee you will…
