Cumberland Island Fishing Report
INSHORE – Things are fairly typical of the season at this point in the year. Anglers are hooking Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) during the outgoing tide this week. The first of the incoming has also been successful. Live bait such as Shrimp has been their preference. The occasional Flounder (Flounder, Southern) and Drum (Drum, Black) have also turned up. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for additional angling tips and tricks!
OFFSHORE – Sheepshead have been caught offshore. Anglers are using Fiddler Crabs to hook them.
BAIT REPORT – There hasn’t been many signs of bait as of yet. When the Mullet are moving through we will see them jumping. Shrimp are difficult to find however it won’t be long until they move back into the creeks. Normally you can drag a net to catch them.

INSHORE – There have been a few Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) around however the water has been messy with the high tides. They have been difficult to find because of this. Reds (Drum, Red) are still up in the smaller creeks. A few Tripletail are off the beaches in Jekyll area. This should heat up as temperatures increase. INSHORE – Things have picked up this week. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are turning up in the creeks. Most are shorts but the warm weather should help them improve for the season. INSHORE – It’s been cold as of late. Our early warm temperatures have gone and the fish are lethargic. Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) are slowly moving on the surf along with a weak Trout (Seatrout, Spotted)bite. Once warmer conditions return the Reds (Drum, Red) and Trout will fire back up. Cumberland Island Fishing Report
INSHORE – There are a variety of fish that can be caught inshore this week. Everything from Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Reds (Drum, Red) to Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Sharks are swimming inshore. Trout and Reds continue to hold up in shallow water looking for warmer pockets. At this time of year they typically prefer live baits including Shrimp that have a stronger, more attractive scent. Whiting and Sharks are usually more of a surf fish. While Whiting will go after a live Shrimp, Sharks aren’t nearly as picky. Sheepshead and Drum (Drum, Black) can be caught anywhere there is structure. Bridges, rock piles and jetties are key areas. Deeper water structures such as reefs and wrecks are host to good numbers of Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) this week. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for additional angling tips and tricks!
OFFSHORE – The gulf stream is out at 82 miles this week and we had no problem making the journey to target Dolphin, Wahoo, and Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin). The Dolphin are a bit scattered but there is no doubt that the bite will become more prominent as warmer Spring conditions approach. The Wahoo are generally fished around the moon so they tend to be hit or miss otherwise. Tuna has been the main target and we are finding an easy bite so far on the troll.

INSHORE – Whiting are running and can be caught from the pier and docks. Boat anglers can also search for Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) in holes as well. Live or Dead Shrimp will be your best bet to hook them. Black Drum (Drum, Black) are beginning to move in. They are great sizes and prefer Shrimp as well. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are also biting into this week. Artificials are working well for the Trout. The afternoon bite is most productive. Sheepshead continue to hit on the bottom around structured areas. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for additional angling tips and tricks!

INSHORE – Sheepshead have moved back in. They are all hanging out on the reefs. The bite is slow further inshore as there has been a lot of freshwater mix. We are looking at possibly a few weeks before we see clean water. Anglers are encouraged to head to the reefs and wrecks for Sheepshead and Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) offshore. Start in roughly 40 feet of water. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for additional angling tips and tricks!

INSHORE – Reds (Drum, Red) are in the smaller creeks. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are decent. They are slowly coming back after the freshwater mix. Search anywhere away from Hampton River to dodge the freshwater. A lot of Saltwater Assassin jig baits are working well. Live Shrimp or DOA Shrimp are key. INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish are still up in the small creeks. Trout are better on the incoming tide. Live Shrimp and artificials are working well. Reds (Drum, Red) are definitely biting better on artificials. Sheepshead are biting well around the bridges and docks. Fiddler Crabs are your best bait to use. Small Shrimp or Oysters can also work. Fish around dead low tide around the last hour of outgoing or the first hour of incoming for Reds or Sheepshead. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for additional angling tips and tricks!
OFFSHORE – Bull Reds (Drum, Red) are still on the nearshore reefs about 9-10 miles out. Cut bait and big jigs will work well to hook them. They are biting consistently. Some anglers are chumming if the water is dirtier. Wahoo and bottom fish (Grouper, Gag & were biting recently as well.
BAIT REPORT – Mullet will return in the Spring. Until then, there won’t be much baitfish around for a little while.

INSHORE – The weather is a bit unfavorable as of late. We have seen a lot of tough conditions keeping anglers off the water. When we can head back out the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) should continue. Live Shrimp and Grubs will be your best bet to hook them. Add scent for an improved bite. Generally Trout will be in the deeper holes and pockets while the Reds will be scattered about. We hope to see this improve along with the weather. INSHORE – The Reds (Drum, Red) are the main bite this week. They are out on the flats for the most part. The water is still a bit muddy and murky so farther out is the best places to look using cut Mullet on the moving tide. Bait such as Shrimp moves with the tide. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are scattered. The numbers are low but if you put some time in you’ll find them. They may be deeper with all the fresh water so deeper lures will work well. Redfish and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are biting in the creeks on artificials such as Saltwater Assassins on a jighead, as well as DOA and Gulp Shrimp. Reds in the creeks should begin to increase in size as we move deeper into fall. Cut Mullet and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) are best to throw to the Bull Reds in the deeper water. There is still a good amount of Whiting swimming the beaches. Shrimp or Squid is best to hook them. In the creeks we are seeing a good bite around low tide, the last two hours of the outgoing and first two hours of the incoming tide. This concentrates the fish a bit more. INSHORE – Anglers are catching quite a few over slot Reds (Drum, Red) this week. Shrimp has been the best bait to throw. There are some in slot Reds as well. Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) continues to bite. Live Shrimp is working to hook them as well. The tail end of the Drum (Drum, Black) bite can still be found if you are looking for them. They are taking Crabs. We expect this bite to continue into the weekend. North Star Bait and Tackle has plenty of live bait for your fishing needs!

INSHORE – Drum (Drum, Black), Flounder (Flounder, Southern) and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) are all showing up this week. Generally they love live Shrimp or similar artificials. A Vudu Shrimp by Egret is always a great choice. We are also seeing a great variety of Sharks (Shark, Sandbar & Shark, Lemon & Shark, Nurse & Shark, Tiger & Shark, Bonnethead & Shark, Blacktip). These have all been caught off the pier this week and the sizes are great. They are a lot of fun to catch as they do put up a bit of a fight. INSHORE – There is a cold front moving in as of recently however the water is slowly beginning to warm up. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) will pick up at this point. Anglers are heading out any time throughout the day depending on the tide. The outgoing high tide has been the most productive. Gulp on a jighead have been working particularly well as well as live bait of course. Chartreuse or white in a curly tail grub have been the best colors. INSHORE – Redfish (Drum, Red) and small Black Drum (Drum, Black) are beginning to show up this week. A few small Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Winter) are also being caught. Bigger Black Drum have been caught on the nearshore reefs. The Reds are becoming more spread out the farther you go. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have occasionally been caught in the area as well in the rivers. They are loving the Shrimp moving in so live Shrimp or similar artificials will do best.
OFFSHORE – A few Sea Bass, Black are being caught in the offshore this week. The sizes are great so far. Bonito, Little Tunny have been found at G Reef and F Reef this week. They are found a bit farther out. We expect this bite to continue into the weekend. INSHORE – The water is warming up so the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are starting to bite but still hard to find. Once the water heats up, so will the bite. They are pretty scattered as of now. There are some Reds (Drum, Red) on the low tide if you can find clean water. DOA lures are working well this week as well as white or chartreuse grubs. INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have been holding up in the deep holes but may start moving now that the water is warming up. Mud Minnows are catching them really well with the lack of Shrimp. The last part of the outgoing tide and the first half of the incoming has been the most productive for Trout. Sheepshead continue to do well this week. They have been on fire for a few weeks. The Whiting (Kingfish, Southern & Kingfish, Northern) are beginning to pick up and we hope to see some Drum, Black move in. The Reds (Drum, Red) are moving into the shallows and are on and off with the bite. We expect it to pick up as the water temperatures increases. Savage 3D Shrimp and other similar artificials are doing well to hook them since there are no Shrimp. There are some Stripers (Bass, Striped) from the Creek to 95 as well this week. Live Shrimp will do well to hook them.
OFFSHORE – Wahoo has been tearing it up offshore so far. The bottom fishing has been great as well.
BAIT REPORT – The Shrimp are difficult to find this week.

INSHORE – There are some Sheepshead being caught around inshore structure this week. Live Fiddler Crabs are the bait of choice to hook them. Reds (Drum, Red) are consistent while the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have become spotty and scattered. The best time to fish depends on the tide. The incoming tide is more popular. The water levels will vary the fish, and the tides vary throughout the day. The earlier bite has been the preference so far. Tackle Shack will be getting new gear in the next few weeks so stop in and stock up for the Spring Season.
OFFSHORE – Sea Bass, Black and Sheepshead are being caught off the bottom this week. They can be caught as close as 7 miles off the beach in 40 ft and farther.

INSHORE – The Reds (Drum, Red) are biting extremely well right now despite the weather in this area. The Reds are found in any water where there are some good shell beds. The incoming tide has been the best time to fish. There are also some Sheepshead turning up in great sizes on Fiddler Crabs. They can be found around structures and pilings this week. These have been the main focus for anglers this week as it has been to unfavorable to head offshore. Tackle Shack will be getting new gear in the next few weeks so stop in and stock up for the Spring Season.

INSHORE – There are some big tides and a lot more rain again this week. The cold fronts are pushing the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Reds (Drum, Red) into the smaller creeks and rivers. Trout are hitting soft plastics in colors like electric chicken while Reds prefer an odorous bait so a gulp is working best. They are a little more spread out with the tide. When the sun is out they will school up on the mud flats. We expect these conditions to continue into the weekend. Check out Kennedy Outfitters’ Winter Sale with up to 50% off select clothing! INSHORE – The fishing is fantastic in this area lately. Temperatures are a bit warmer and the water is greener. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are on fire and all within slot size. Anglers are hooking in the double digits. There is a spotty Redfish (Drum, Red) bite mixed in. Morning has been the best time to get out for Trout. Anglers are throwing clear DOA Shrimp for the best results. Check out Kennedy Outfitters’ Winter Sale with up to 50% off select clothing! All Simms apparel is on sale as well!

INSHORE – There is a bit of fresh water mix in this area as of late however we are still seeing Reds (Drum, Red) in the shallows. They are schooled up and anglers are reporting pods of up to 50. They are taking white gulp Shrimp or Vudu Shrimp by Egret. Anglers are fishing them off the bottom, bumping on a Carolina Rig. Remember to move them slow as the fish are fairly lethargic at this point. It has not been easy to find the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) this week however we hope to see some turn up by the weekend.

INSHORE – The inshore has been the focus for most anglers in the area this season. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has been slow however it is present in anywhere from 7-10 ft of water. Shrimp has been the bait of choice to hook them. Anglers will have to look in the deeper holes to find the fish since the water is cooler. There are no reports of Drum, Red as of yet.

INSHORE – The bite has been slow in the area this week as the temperature drops and shuts a lot of things down. There has been a lot of rain taking place muddying the water as well. There have not been a lot of anglers making their way out however anglers who do find some clean patches can find some decent sizes of Reds (Drum, Red). They are there but are difficult to find. Live bait is best to through as fish have to rely on smell more than sight. Shrimp is generally a great choice. We hope to see the water clear up soon so anglers can take advantage of the bite before it’s gone.

INSHORE – Blue Crabs are absolutely on fire this week. There are some Stone Crabs mixed in however the Blues are everywhere. This is the target for most anglers so far. They can be used as bait for the few Drum, Black that are still swimming as well. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite is hot as well on Shrimp or plugs. They are fairly spread out as the water levels have been high so anglers will have to put more time into finding them. The Redfish (Drum, Red) bite has been average so far this week.
BAIT REPORT – Crabs are on fire this week. Although most anglers are targeting them for food, they can be used as bait.

INSHORE – Water temperatures are still warm in the area. There are tons of Snapper, Yellowtail since things have warmed up. Unfortunately due to unseasonable temperatures there has not been a steady Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite and there are no signs of Sheepshead. Reds (Drum, Red) are consistent and they are all eating Shrimp as the bait have not yet left. Fishing in this area has been doing well this week.
BAIT REPORT – Shrimp continue to run this week due to the warm temperatures. They are working well for inshore fish.

INSHORE – The hot bite this week as continued to be Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Reds (Drum, Red). They are both loving Shrimp both live, dead or a similar artificial. Under the popping cork has been producing the best results as anglers hit the Oyster Beds and grassy areas for them. There are no signs of Sheepshead yet this week.

INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are just about everywhere this week and are on fire! They are coming up in huge sizes. For anglers it is more about finding the right spot to catch them rather than focusing on a tide as they are biting any time of the day. Oyster beds are always a good spot to look when starting out your day. Live Shrimp has been the best bait this week. Gotcha plugs or jigs are working as well but there is no substitute for how effective the Shrimp has been. There are also Reds (Drum, Red) hitting Shrimp inshore as well. They are in various sizes so far this week. In the nearshore there are both Sheepshead and Flounder (Flounder Southern, Flounder Gulf) hitting this week. The Sheeps are going after fiddler crabs while the Flounder are more interested in Squid. They can be found mainly on the nearshore wrecks however are spaced out pretty well.
BAIT REPORT – There have been no reports of bait running so far this week.

Cumberland Island Fishing Report
INSHORE – The target this week for most anglers is Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). They are on fire as the winds have died down and the water is clean. The cooler water has turned the good sizes on and anglers are finding they can catch their limit in a few short hours. Artificial soft plastics under a popping cork has produced the best results on the incoming tide. 3 ft of water has been the key spot. When the water temperature drops a slip float in deeper water will be the best setup. The Trout are swimming in the main rivers this week and are heading into the smaller creeks as the temperature drops below 60. Berkley gulp is the bait of choice so far, especially in electric chicken. We expect to see bigger sizes in the coming weeks.
BAIT REPORT – There has not been a lot of bait reported to be running this week as most anglers are moving towards artificials as they have been working extremely well.

Cumberland Island Fishing Report
INSHORE – The really big tides have not stopped inshore anglers from heading out this week. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Summer (Fluke)) have had an excellent bite this week when anglers can find them. Trout have been hitting artificial plugs. These have produced the bigger sizes. Live Shrimp under a cork is working well for some smaller sizes as well. Flounder have been preferring Mud Minnows but also taking Live Finger Mullet and Live Shrimp as an alternative choice. The Sheepshead have had a strong bite this week around the wrecks mixed in with some more Flounder. Giant Bull Reds (Drum, Red) have pretty much dispersed back into the nearshore at this point and have become difficult to find. Our sources have determined that the tide does not matter this week. There is no preferred fishing time, it’s finding the fish that is the challenge.
OFFSHORE – The bottom fishing in this area has been great as of late for anglers who can get out on the water. The tides have been high but our sources are certain the fish are out there along the bottom. Anglers heading out on the water can always consult our Tips feature providing more information and suggestions on the fish of your choice. Of course, you can also head into Northstar Bait & Tackle for an up to the minute fishing report.
BAIT REPORT – There are still some Mullet swimming this week and have been moving in and out lately. This make it difficult for live baiters to know if they will be swimming in the area at specific times. There are some great Christmas sales coming up at St. Simon’s Island Bait and Tackle. Stop in and see what’s happening!

INSHORE – There is a lot of action in the inshore this week. Reds (Drum, Red) are absolutely on fire in this area. They are swimming the inshore and some fishermen are bottom fishing off the piers and banks for them. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have produced a great bite as well. Both of these fish are loving Live Shrimp as it is the best and most effective bait to throw. For anglers with a boat there are some Whiting (Kingfish, Southern & Kingfish, Northern) in 30 ft holes just a bit farther out in the nearshore. Dead Shrimp are the most productive choice.
OFFSHORE – Due to unfavorable conditions, anglers have not been able to get offshore at this time. For any angler heading out on the water for the holidays can always consult our Tips feature providing more information and suggestions on the fish of your choice. Of course, you can also head into Northstar Bait & Tackle for an up to the minute fishing report.

INSHORE – Now is the best time of year to be fishing in this area. Everything is on fire both on the beach and in the backwater. Seatrout, Spotted have been chasing live Shrimp so anglers have been using the run to find the fish but also as bait. Grubs and jigs are also working as an alternative. Redfish (Drum, Red) have been on fire and biting just about anything. Lots of Whiting (Kingfish, Northern) have turned up on dead Squid and dead Shrimp just about everywhere as well. Anglers have had trouble keeping their hooks in the water.
OFFSHORE – Due to unfavorable conditions, anglers have not been able to get offshore at this time. If you are heading out this weekend you can always consult our Tips feature providing more information and suggestions on the fish of your choice. Cumberland Island Island Fishing Report
INSHORE – There continues to be some activity reported from the shallower water despite the weather mixing fresh water into the area. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has been happening close to the ocean due to this, however they are still biting on live Shrimp, either on a popping cork or old school adjustable float rig. Anglers are drifting them to keeping the bait just off the bottom. As an artificial alternative the DOA shrimp in red, electric chicken or chartreuse grubs on a jighead are both working well. Reds (Drum, Red) are also hitting the Trout bait along with chunked bait as anglers who target Reds are specifically bottom fishing for them.
OFFSHORE – Due to unfavorable conditions, anglers have not been able to get offshore at this time. If you are heading out this weekend you can always consult our Tips feature providing more information and suggestions on the fish of your choice. Of course, you can also head into Tackle Shack for an up to the minute fishing report.

INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have been biting pretty well in this area. There have also been plenty of Bull Reds (Drum, Red) as well as some slot sizes in the river. Anglers are using cut bait to hook either of these species. There are some Flounder, Southern that can be caught off the pier and in the rivers. They are chasing mainly mud minnows or artificials that look similar.
OFFSHORE – Due to non-ideal conditions, anglers have not been able to get offshore at this time. OFFSHORE – Due to the rainy weather conditions the past week there have been no offshore fishing reports. Should things decide to calm down and you have a chance to head out to the deeper water you can always consult our Tips feature which provides more information on the the fish of your choice, and can also help you improve your catch.
INSHORE – The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) Reds (Drum, Red) and Flounder are all biting right now however the tides are beginning to rise again with all the rain which will slow things down. Looking for some clear water will give you an increased chance of catching something this week. Try using a berkley gulp mullet in white or chartreuse or bass assassin electric chicken which has been a hot seller for several years running. Flounder have been hitting anything Trout has such as mud Minnows or Finger Mullet off the bottom.
BAIT REPORT – Finger mullet has disappeared almost completely but there are still mud Minnows out there which you should not have too much trouble finding.
