Cocodrie Fishing Report
INSHORE – Barring the late cold fronts the fishing is awesome. Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are roughly 4-6 weeks early. Limits are easy to get ahold of on nice weather day. Shrimp imitations are best, Berkley Rattle Shrimp is producing well, under a cork. Reds (Drum, Red) are schooled up on the beaches. Drum (Drum, Black) and Sheepshead are schooled up around the well heads. On naturally better weather days it’s been tough to not catch them. Bass and Redfish are hitting in the deep interior marshes but most fish are on the coast.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
INSHORE – Incredible day once again fishing with coach Rodney Guin, Dak Prescott, Dallascowboys, Coach Simms, Thad Prescott and Gevan Spinney. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite was slow so mid morning we turned our attention to bull Reds (Drum, Red), and man did they have fun. The bulls did not disappoint as the rods were bent and drags were screaming. Plenty trash talking too!!! Fun times. Thanks again guys. Day two with Coach Rodney Guin, Coach Shane Simms, Dak Prescott, Thad Prescott, and Gevan Spinney was a total success in the 30-40 mph winds today. This morning with the buoy reading 37.7 mph, I wasn’t sure how the day would turn out, but we adapted and overcame the conditions. The redfish cooperated for us and we put together a good mess and had plenty throwbacks too. Matrixshad lures accounted for every fish we caught. Thanks Chas Champagne for your continued support. Thanks again guys for another great day of fishing. Go Cowboys!!

Cocodrie Fishing Report
INSHORE – We are seeing some nice Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) during the falling tide in the morning. The 2 hour window is best as it seems to shut down any time after. Before the wind you could find them under the birds taking Shrimp however with the conditions this week it’s been tough to get out there. Redfish (Drum, Red) are more active in the afternoon. The low tide has also hindered the fishing a bit. Once we see lower winds and higher tides things should heat up.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
INSHORE – Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have moved themselves out into the open lakes and bays. We are seeing plenty of fish in various sizes. Redfish (Drum, Red), Drum (Drum, Black) and Sheepshead are stacked up in the oil field wells. They are loving market Shrimp. Trout are taking plastics or live Shrimp. This is expected to continue for the next few days when conditions warm up for the weekend.
OFFSHORE – Red Snapper (Snapper, Red) are open inside 9 miles. There has been some good fish caught in close, up to 16lbs.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
INSHORE – The weather has made fishing a tough go this week. Anglers are switching the focus to Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) in the morning. Look for a slow, falling tide for the best bite. There are a variety of sizes turning up so far with some keepers and plenty of releases. The largest was up to 22 inches. Bass (Bass, Striped) are mixed in, but not yet consistent. Small Reds (Drum, Red) are swimming however they aren’t worth targeting yet. Green Hornet Matrix Shads are hooking most fish while tight lining. Anglers are also using Crabs to hook Drum (Drum, Black). They are running thick making it difficult to find the Bull Reds. They are more productive in the afternoon.

INSHORE – The morning bite for Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) has been productive into this week. They are preferring artificials and the Green Hornet Matrix Shad is working best. Anglers are also doing well for Bull Reds (Drum, Red) midday around the pass. They are up to 23 pounds and biting well. We hope to see this continue into the weekend.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
INSHORE – Day 1 with a group having a bachelor party. We found a slow Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite all day just picking away at a few fish every stop. We never found a concentration of fish all day. We fished shallow reefs, points, and bayous with depth up to 8 ft. No pattern anywhere we went, just scattered fish here and there. Green Hornet Matrix on a 1/4 jig head accounted for the majority of our fish. Day 2 we fished a half day and the Trout pretty much had lock jaw. With 7 Trout on ice we switched to plan B and let the guys battle the bulls. Good times with these guys.

INSHORE – We are seeing slot Reds (Drum, Red) taking Shrimp under a popping cork. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are preferring Matrix Shad into this week. Sheepshead are holding up on structure taking Shrimp on the bottom. Those targeting Bull Reds and Bull Drum (Drum, Black) can use cracked Crab to hook them. We hope to see this continue into the weekend following up the upcoming front.

INSHORE – Fishing has been a bit slow as of late. We are seeing some Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) caught. Bull Reds have been caught on Cracked Crab this week. February is one of the slowest months of the year. As the water warms up the fish are moving towards the lakes and will be a little easier to find.

INSHORE – White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) and Sheepshead are beginning to spawn this week. Sheepshead are up to 8 lbs. Drum (Drum, Black) also look like they are beginning their spawn as well. They are schooling up making them easier to catch. Redfish (Drum, Red) are everywhere. We have beem limiting early and catching fish up to 30 inches on top of limits. Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) are hit or miss with the fluctuating temperatures this week. We don’t expect big numbers but there should be huge sized fish.

INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) continue to bite in great numbers. They are in roughly 2 ft of water over the oyster reefs. Shrimp on the bottom is also catching Redfish in the same areas. They are biting all throughout the day. The numbers of Reds (Drum, Red) aren’t quite as impressive but they are still worth targeting. We hope to see this bite continue into the weekend.

INSHORE – We are finding a hit or miss bite of Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) this week. They are either huge or small lately. Limits are not uncommon lately. Berkeley Rattle Shrimp is the key to hooking them this week. In the bays throughout the saltier water (before the Barrier Islands) we are seeing the beginning of Sheepshead spawn producing box limits. Redfish (Drum, Red) and Drum (Drum, Black) are mixed in. INSHORE – This week Capt. Marty is putting some time in and covering plenty of water. He has found a great bite from Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Bass (Bass, Striped) from every area. They fish are a bit scattered so once you hit and the bite begins to slow down it’s time to head to a new location. There are even still some Black Drum (Drum, Black) being caught in decent sizes. Anglers were tight lining Limbo Slice or Ultraviolet Matrix Shad with a Crappie Psychic Trout trailer. As usual, Shrimp under a cork is another great alternative. Keep in mind the cold water has the fish a bit lethargic so be prepared to put some time in. You can find your limits if you do!

INSHORE – The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite continues down in the Du. Had Daniel Brewster back onboard, he broke the ice early with a nice solid 17 inch fish. The bite was sort of slow so we moved around drifting oyster reefs picking up 25 nice fish (corks worked a lil better than tight lined). We made a move into a bayou with 4-5 ft depths and started catching them tight lined, not a bite under a cork. The water temp was 60 degrees but it was a extremely soft winter time bite. We got on a couple really good runs and the K2 filled up. Thanks guys for another exceptional day on the Bluewave. We expect this bite to forecast into the holiday week. The Pro Angler Team wishes you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. We look forward to bringing you more great reports in 2017!

INSHORE – Danny Lirette and Father Craig were back with me on the big Bluewave. With perfect conditions forecasted I knew it was going to be a great day. Our first stop was much slower than I expected so we didn’t stick around long. Second stop we found what we were looking for! Every cast action as the Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) were slamming our Ultra Violet and Limbo Slice Matrix Shad tight lined. They shut off like a light switch after icing down 30 nice Trout. Off to our third stop and it was fish on again. Another good run putting us up to 58 Trout before the tide went slack. One more stop and we finished off limit. We had to switch to corks as they would not hit the baits tight lined. We left them biting!!! Thanks again Danny for the continued business, always a pleasure fishing with you.

INSHORE – Fishing is great this week despite the recent cold front and wind. There hasn’t been a whole lot of anglers hitting the water. Redfish (Drum, Red) and good sized Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) were biting prior to the weather. Anglers that are getting out are fishing the grass in the marsh for Redfish. Shallow water is best. Sheepshead haven’t heated up and there are some Puppy Drum biting. The Trout are the hottest bite. They are all in the marshes. They are still out in the bays and lakes chasing the Shrimp. Look for birds diving or points with current. Oyster reefs are productive as well. Shrimp under a cork is working well along with the Berkeley Rattle Shrimp under a cork. Shrimp imitation and Curly tail Grubs are also working well. Natural colors are going to be your best bet.

INSHORE – The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) have been great. We are starting to see some wind but we hope to see it drop soon so anglers can get out on the water. Generally, live Shrimp or similar artificials will do well to hook them. Currently, the bayou is packed full of Shrimp. For the most part the morning and the early evening bite is more productive. A lot of anglers will typically search a moving tide to find them. When the water is still a bit warmer they are likely to bee in the deeper pockets however as the temperature cools they tend to move shallower.
BAIT REPORT – The Bayou is full of Shrimp.

INSHORE – The recent fishing has been extremely good. There has been a quick bite on Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). They are nice sizes caught on Berkley Rattle Shrimp fishing reefs and current lines. The oyster shell reefs and drains where Bayous meet lakes on the current lines are the places to be. Everything is being fished under a cork. Swim baits have not worked well. A few Reds (Drum, Red) have been caught however anglers aren’t really targeting them. Cracked Crab in the deep holes are producing Reds. however. In the ponds and grass the bite just hasn’t turned on.

The Reds can be caught sight casting with gold spoons, spinners or cracked Crab on the bottom in deep holes.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
INSHORE – For the past month we have seen the trout bite decline much earlier than it did in the previous few years. Normally we are catching good numbers of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) into mid August but this year has been unpredictable. The good days of catching limits of Trout ended in late July with the salinity being extremely low all over the coast. Some days we had perfect conditions of great weather and pristine water but the fish were simply not around. In early August while bull Red (Drum, Red) fishing I witnessed on multiple occasions small Trout feeding on Shrimp way inshore. That tells me that the migration has begun early so if all things go correctly we should see an early fall Trout appearance. While the Trout where ghosts we made up for it by catching bull Reds and Drum (Drum, Black) for most of the month of August. The big Reds were feeding heavily in the deep holes and the Puppy Drum were right behind them looking for scraps. Most trips we had our limit of bull reds and 8-12 Puppy Drum. Customers who were not sold on eating Black Drum and bull Reds have all recently changed their minds after watching me carefully clean their catch back at the dock. On the big Reds, I am using the Hoss Filet Knife and removing the skin from the meat. Most folks are sold on cooking big Reds on the half shell but if you don’t remove 100 percent of the red meat you will not enjoy it on the grill. I do the black drum the same way since we are keeping them 25 inches or less. After removing the skin I am using a razor sharp 8 inches Dexter Russell boning knife to remove all bones and red meat from the filets. It takes much longer on the table but in the end you are left with nothing but tender white meat. Usually by this time we are experiencing a great slot Red bite in our end of the summer holes of 20-30 ft of water. Looking back at last years books, we were catching limits of slot Reds on cracked Crab by this time last year. We have yet to find them stacked up but it should happen any day now. I really believe this has been a strange year for fishing so who knows if they will even show up. Saturday 8-29-16 I had 6 boats out with two different bachelor party groups. Most boats stayed with the bull Reds and drum and a few went off to throw spoons in the marsh. Only one boat returned with a limit of slot Reds but everyone caught fish and both parties had great outings. Capt. Rob DupontImpulse Fishing Charters225-776-9820www.impulsefishingcharters.com

Cocodrie Fishing Report
INSHORE – A little late on this report but in reality it’s never too late to talk about kids fishing. I spent the last few days at my hunting lease cutting grass and putting out cameras but got tire of playing in the rain and mud. Also I had no internet service from my hot area so I couldn’t get this report in till I got home. Greg Farmer along with his son’s Anthony and Alexander were out touring Colleges for Anthony to go to Vet school and decided to get a little fishing in while out and about. Thanks Capt Anthony Kyzar for the hook up. I had given Greg the grandest of stories about how well the fishing had been going and don’t you know the fish didn’t get the memo. Every day for the last month the fish have cooperated from the very first cast until this day. We did get a few big Black Drum (Drum, Black) in the first hour but then it died out to nothing. OH MY! OK let’s make a move and try some other things while waiting for a different tide. Two hours and nothing to show but a few 10 ft White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) and Specks (Seatrout, Spotted). Nothing to keep. So back to the honey hole (community area) and try again and again nothing. OH MY! So another move and this one paid a small dividend with 3 Reds (Drum, Red) coming in all at the same time. That’s when Anthony said that this bite had made the day. I looked at him and said that the day wasn’t made until I had him on a bite that he would remember for life. With this short bite over we opted to go back to the honey hole and try one last time. Low and behold someone was in the right area. Thank Goodness, is all I can say because it caused me to go to another area and that one pair of big. One fish after the other till all arms and backs were tired and Alexander wanted no more. Reds and Drum coming in faster than I could toss another line out. The Lowrance HDS 12 was lit up with fish and they were hungry. Largest Red was 42 ft long and had a girth of 25.5 inches. Persistence paid off this day and boy am I glad it did. I love getting the kids catching fish like they never did before. Greg didn’t want any fish so I kept a few to bring to the camp to cook were they ever good.

INSHORE – Prior to this weather system we were seeing Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) starting to slow down. Bull Reds (Drum, Red) and Bull Drum (Drum, Black) have been really good. The slot Reds are doing well on the evening falling tide from the ponds to passes to deeper holes. They haven’t been great on the incoming tide yet. When fishing Redfish or Drum the cracked Crab on the bottom has been productive. The Trout are taking artificials including double rigged Matrix Shad. The are biting in the morning before the water heats up too much.

INSHORE – The fishing has been good as of late. We are seeing Redfish (Drum, Red), Drum (Drum, Black), and Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) coming up. The best bite is coming any time of day in this area. It all depends on the tide. If it’s moving the fish are biting. Trout are loving Berkeley Rattle Shrimp. The Drum and Reds are taking cracked Crab.
OFFSHORE – The Yellowfin (Tuna, Yellowfin) are biting really well. They are up to 80 lbs with a few bigger sizes mixed in. There haven’t been much on Dolphin or Marlin (Billfish – Marlin, Blue). There are tons of Sharks (Shark, H.H. – Great) and Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) following the Shrimping boats as well.

INSHORE – It’s been wet, windy and raining however the fishing is decent for Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) when you can get out. Reds are biting everywhere on the inside. They are along the coast and islands. Look for the birds as the Reds are schooling up. The Trout will be along the beaches and Whiskey Pass.
OFFSHORE – When the weather allows anglers to hit the offshore we are seeing a good Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin) bite. They are pretty far out so most smaller boats haven’t been able to make the trip.

OFFSHORE – There are a few Specks (Seatrout, Spotted). The bite hasn’t been overly hot but it is consistent. There have also been a few Reds (Drum, Red) earlier in the week. Once we see the weather cool down a bit we will find a more productive bite throughout the day. Crab and minnows are working best for the Reds while artificials have been more successful for the Trout. Your best bet is to head out in the early morning or late evening to find the fish in the cooler water.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
INSHORE – David Cook, Davis Payne, Todd Payne and Carrol Payne flew down to Houma and wanted in on the great fishing we have and I asked them what they wanted to catch. Well the vote came in that it was big Reds that they wanted so we loaded up with live crabs and off we went. My good friend Capt Bill Lake was already at the honey hole and hooked up so I came in and tried all around him catching fish most every spot but I just couldn’t get Davis on a Redfish. He was steady on the Drum (Drum, Black) but just watched everyone else get a Redfish. The fish were biting very good and we even caught a 25 lb Redfish (Drum, Red) that one of Capt Bill’s crew had broke off. Thanks for the leader Bill. finally that bite slowed enough and we left for another area. Instantly 2 lines get bit and it was 2 big Reds but not on Davis’s line. About that time it went very calm so we decided to go give the trout a try. We went to the famed Pickets and found lot of sand Trout (Seatrout, Sand) with a few Specks (Seatrout, Spotted). Talked to a couple of guides out there and they confirmed that it was mostly whites to be caught. Armed with Berkley Gulp Shrimp and Berkley rattle shrimp we commenced to catching whites, Specks and channel mullets every cast till we cried uncle on them. Davis still didn’t have a red fish so we wanted to be sure he gets one, so off we went. I had a area in mind but I got a message from above to go to Capt Eric Pellegrin’s spot and it paid off perfectly. A double hit and it was Davis and David’s lines that went off. I went to snap a picture of both of them fighting fish at the same time but got a shot of David just as his red came unbuttoned. Davis’s red was the largest of the day and made the whole trip for him.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
INSHORE – On Saturday we were blessed with super calm conditions although very hot. The fish (Seatrout, Spotted & Drum, Red) cooperated really nice from the start with one trout after the other eating the Rattle Shrimp. Drew Davis, George and Fran took a break from remodeling Drew’s house to come fishing. When we hit 50 fish real early we decided to move on and look for some bigger fish. We weren’t real interested in a limit just some meat in the box so moving was no problem. We left Capt Eric Pellegrin catching fish one after the other and he eventually had his 125 in the box. At one point this Shrimp boat calls us over so we went see what he wanted. What he had was about a ton of live Croakers so we filled the live well with his generous supply. We moved around for a while finding more smaller fish and then I hit a sandbar and we put another dozen or so nice fish in the box and called it a day. Next day was Ron Bartels along with his daughter Linda and her son Tommy and Ron’s granddaughter Hammering Hanna as she caught most of the fish. This day started with a super bite just before a rain squall kicked up the wind and instantly the bite was off. I talked to a few guides and they all said the same, ‘no bites’. the wind just kept getting higher and higher till it settled in around 15 to 20. We found some fish on the beach but it got way too rough to stay on the fish and it was starting to affect the health of the crew. Moved into calmer waters and found a whole lot of nothing till a bull Red hit a bait and Linda was on for the fight. After the fight it was emotions that took over as it was almost exactly 2 years since Tommy had caught a 28 pound Red at the exact same spot and he had said that he would love his mother to catch one here. What a great experience. Want a great experience fishing come see Capt Tommy Pellegrin.

INSHORE – The Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) are still on fire. Anglers are easily getting limits. Double rigs with a matrix Shad will do well in the ponds. Wait for the falling tide. Redfish (Drum, Red) can be sight casted in the ponds using gold spoons.
OFFSHORE – The Snapper (Snapper, Gray) have been hot this week. Blackfin Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) and Cobia have also been brought in. Live hardtails are the best bet to hook them.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
INSHORE – Repeat customer’s Dennis Lorio and sons were back with me today on their yearly two day trip. We were not sure what the weather was going to do this morning, so I had to change my game plan up several times. After waiting for well over 30 minutes past our planned departure, we headed out. Things looked decent and I knew we had a 2-3 hour window to do some damage. It didn’t take but two cast and Craig was slinging in a double on Matrix Shad lures. That set it off, and in no time everyone in the boat was slinging in fish. Non stop action as the Motorguide Xi5 held us in place. The bite slowed down after a good hour of catching. We moved around picking away at a few more fish before we made a move. First cast at our second location produced a nice Speck (Seatrout, Spotted) and quite a few more before the storms closed in on us and we had to run to safer grounds. We hit the marsh and found a good incoming tide. Green Hornet Matrix and brush hogs were tied on and we started beating the banks. The bite was very slow as we only hooked 6 bass, boating four. One undersized red was also released. Great day with my crew considering how bad the weather was. I always say You have to go to know!!! Thanks guys for the continued business.

INSHORE – We are seeing a steady bite come in from the inshore this week. Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are still very good this week, if the weather allows. The topwater has been productive as well as a double rig. Redfish (Drum, Red) are starting to pick up. Cracked Crab have been the key to hooking them.
OFFSHORE – Red Snapper (Snapper, Red) and Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) are on fire throughout the offshore this week. The Cobia are running thick and it has been a good offshore season so far. Anglers are finding a great bite when the weather is nice enough to hit the deep water.

INSHORE – Today was definitely a day you wouldn’t want to be a trout. Gaiennie Lumber was back on the bayou ready to put a hurt on the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). It was a calm ride out and we knew the wind would pick up as the morning went on. Surprisingly the forecasters got that right because by 8 the wind was blowing good. Fortunately for us the wind was a little late and the guys put a hurt on the Trout before the wind picked up. It was a little strange that we had Shrimp jumping and running for their lives all around us but it wasn’t doubles every cast like it usually is that situation. We still couldn’t complain because we had fish constantly coming over the gunnel and it’s a cool site watching the trout bust the shrimp up. Double rigged Matrix Shad in Avocado and Shrimp Creole putting a good lick on the trout I made a move and found about 20 more trout before we made the trek north. Thanks Capt. Marty for setting up the trip.

INSHORE – The seas are calm and conditions are great this week. Wind is calm and water is cleared. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are biting well so far. Live Croaker are catching the big ones however Shrimp are working as well. We are finding them in the marsh over 2 lbs.
OFFSHORE – Red Snapper (Snapper, Red) and Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) that you cannot keep are biting this week. Cobia and Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) have also been brought in. Farther out, the Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) are beginning to move in and are easier to catch.

INSHORE – Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) are biting in full force this week in the bays and near the beach. Live Shrimp and Croaker seem to be the best choice of bait to catch large Trout and Reds.
OFFSHORE – Lots of Tuna this week (Tuna, Yellowfin). The opening of federal water for Snappers couldn’t be at a better time as the fishing is great! The fishing is excellent in State waters and we have been seeing Reds (Snapper, Red), Mangrove Snappers (Snapper, Gray), Cobia, Amberjacks (Jack, Amberjack Greater) and more. RIght now, a lot of anglers have been using live hardtails for the Tuna and larger ones for the Amberjacks. Even cut Mullet or Pogies has been working for the Tuna. Day trips are just as good as night trips in terms of fish yield. Boats have been coming in with up to 18 Yellowfin, a bunch of Amberjack and a few Snappers.

INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have turned on this week! The reefs and points are the best place to find them, especially around the marshes where the current is moving. Shrimp under a popping cork has been the key bait. Croakers are on the reefs close to the pass this week. Reds (Drum, Red) are still in the marsh eating Cocahoe Minnows on a spoon. Fishing the beach is hot this week when anglers can make it out. Close to limits of Trout are turning up on live Croakers. Reds are hit and miss from this area.
OFFSHORE – There are reports of Red Snapper (Snapper, Red) from the Delta area. Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) are just starting to move in. The bite is just about to turn on. The night Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin) bite is great but they are farther out around 80-90 miles.

INSHORE – Around Grand Isle we are seeing the best year we have had in a long time on Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). They are plentiful and larger than average. They are literally everywhere. This year is looking great and there is plenty of live bait including Shrimp in the water. Topwaters are great for the larger sized Trout.
OFFSHORE – A majority of the action is in close due to the weather. Anglers are working the canyon to find AJs (Jack, Amberjack Greater). They are thick and the sizes are great. Catch one and you’ll catch a few. Topwaters are working well. Nice Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper Red) and Snapper (Snapper, Vermillion) are doing well. The first Cobia are showing up. They are not thick yet but that will come soon. Mahi (Dolphin) have also shown up and are hitting around the grass patches. Things are heating up for the Summer.

INSHORE – Day two with Tom Strange and crew from Texas was even better than day one!! We loaded the Bluewave with live Shrimp again for insurance due to the high winds again. We started out over a reef in 3-4 ft of water only catching about 7 fish (Seatrout, Spotted) on Shrimp. We saw a flock of birds in the distance diving like crazy, so we made a move. The double rigged Matrix Shad went to work and it was fish on every cast for about 20 minutes. We moved around picking away once the bite slowed down. We trolled around with the Motorguide Xi5 and came up on another reef in 3 ft of water and it was on!! We had trout coming in 1 – 2 at a time every cast for a good thirty minutes. We did have to weed through some of this school, as they were not all big. At 11 we left the Trout, as my guys wanted to fight a few Reds (Drum, Red) in the shallows. After dropping the Xi5 Lee was hooked up on his second cast!! Then a couple minutes later a double hook up with some bruiser Reds! They ended up hooking 8 and boating six. Catching the Reds made the guys trip, memories they will never forget!! Thanks guys for two great days and I look forward to your return.

INSHORE – ANOTHER TRULY AMAZING DAY ON THE WATER! We had the pleasure to guide a group of anglers for the Woodland Plantation in Plaquemines Parish. It was a two boat trip with Capt. Clint running the second boat. It was great catches on both boats again today. On my boat it was Craig, Chet, and Chad. The guys are from Huntsville Alabama and it was their first time fishing LA. We left from Delta Marina in Empire, LA heading to the east side of the Mississippi River Delta once again. The wind was breezy out the south as we fished the interior bays. The guys casted live Shrimp under popping corks and I tight lined Matrix Shad soft plastics. One stop was all it took to put 100 Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) on ice in the Yeti by 9:00 am. After limiting out on the Specks we drifted the marsh banks putting 7 beautiful Redfish (Drum, Red) on ice before calling a day at noon. BIG THANKS TO CRAIG, CHET, CHAD & WOODLAND PLANTATION!
OFFSHORE – Things have been consistent offshore this week. We are seeing some decent Yellowfins (Tuna, Yellowfin) come in. Porgy are doing great to catch them so far. We expect this bite to continue into the weekend. Venice Marina 504-534-9357 www.venicemarina.com

INSHORE – There are a lot of trips and a lot of fish being caught this week. The weather is a bit breezy however it has not stopped anglers from hitting the water. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are biting live Shrimp or similar artificials so far. At this point in time it doesn’t matter what you throw, the water is heating up and the fish are active. We are seeing a good bite of Redfish (Drum, Red) as well. As the bite is hot inshore we aren’t seeing a lot of anglers heading to the offshore, especially with the wind. When things lie down for the weekend we expect to see some great reports of Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) and Mackerel (Mackerel, King) turn up.

OFFSHORE – Snapper (Snapper, Red) are hitting well this week. We are seeing both big sizes and numbers coming in around the rigs. Porgies are best to hook them so far. When anglers are able to get out for Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin & Tuna, Blackfin) they are finding some decent bites.

INSHORE – It’s an old saying in fishing that if you want to catch fish you have to match the hatch. Yesterday while filming Casting Cajun with Tony Fontenot we were on the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and the Berkley Rattle Shrimp in Coastal Candy color was on fire. It was one of the only baits that caught larger fish this day. Tony had all of his rods rigged with that other plastic Shrimp but only caught small Trout. He learned quickly and I had to hook a pack on his line so he could have some in his boat. Jay Paul of Swamp People fame was on board getting the kids involved in fishing. Everyone had a great day. INSHORE – The fishing is up and running. Although mother nature has given us a good bit of wind and rain the last few weeks, thus have put a little damper on the amount we are catching, we are still averaging 30+ keeper Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) a day with a few Reds (Drum, Red) as well. Live shrimp rigged under a popping cork or rigged Carolina style is still the ticket for a plentiful catch. Come on down to Grand Isle for fun in the sun and some Fin-tastic fishing. INSHORE – The fishing has been pretty great in this area lately. The bite on every inshore fish has been steady. Reports have come in of lots of Drum (Drum, Black) and Reds (Drum, Red) as well as Sheepshead and the occasional Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf). They are all decent sizes, nothing overly gigantic so far. The Sheeps are still expected to get bigger when the weather cools down. Anglers have found the key colors to be pumpkin pie for artificials along with spoon flies in gold/blue or a black clouser with red crystal flash. There has also been a steady Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite this week too. They are coming in great sizes as they fatten up for winter. As usual Shrimp or similar artificials are the best choice of bait to hook them. They are expected to increase with cold weather as well.

Anglers have been mostly using artificial lures such as a Matrix Shad under a cork. At times the bite has been so good two shads are used tied together to hook two fish at a time. The Sheepshead have begun to move in and anglers are catching tons of them using cracked crab and dead shrimp under a cork or alternatively along the bottom.
OFFSHORE – Wind and rain has deterred many anglers from heading offshore this week. There are currently no offshore trips to report however if conditions lay down and fishermen decide to head to the deeper water they can always consult our Tips feature which provides additional suggestions and information that could help improve the catch.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
INSHORE – There is some great inshore fishing this week. Reds (Drum, Red) are on fire, and there is definitely no shortage. Anglers can have all the Redfish they want using live Shrimp under a popping cork, or bottom fishing them with cracked Crab or live Shrimp. Seatrout, Spotted, are hitting extremely well too. They are chasing Vudu Shrimp and live Minnows. Since both species are loving Shrimp it is a good idea to find the flocks of birds that are hiding the Shrimp. There are likely plenty of fish under them as well. Anglers are hoping the weather improves and they will have more opportunities to get out on the water and take advantage of all the action in the next week.
OFFSHORE – Wind and rain has deterred many anglers from heading offshore this week. There are currently no offshore trips to report however if conditions lay down and fishermen decide to head to the deeper water they can always consult our Tips feature which provides additional suggestions and information that could help improve the catch.
BAIT REPORT – There are a few different bait running right now however Shrimp is the top choice and they have been easy to find right below the birds.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
INSHORE – There are lots of Seatrout, Spotted in big numbers. They are a mix of sizes including small and keepers. Most anglers are using a Matrix Shad or Cocahoe minnow or fishing under a bobber. You can find the trout by following the seagulls that are eating Shrimp as they are pushed to the surface by the Trout.
OFFSHORE – The weather conditions have just been too rough for anyone to get offshore at this time. Anglers hope things will clear up soon however boaters should take proper precautions should they decide to venture out. For more information on offshore fish in this area you can check out our Tips feature with lots of suggestions that could help improve your catch.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – Due to the terrible weather all offshore trips have been cancelled.
INSHORE – A recent tornado has done a lot of damage to this area and made fishing very difficult. High water has produced scattered Redfish (Drum, Red) Flounder (Founder, Southern) and Trout (Trout, White, & Trout, Spotted). Ideally the water levels will drop with the North wind on Tuesday. Anglers willing to brave the conditions have been fishing the middle of the Bayou, but once the levels decrease they will move towards the grass. Artificial lures like imitation cocahoe minnow with red/green fleck under a cork are working well or Shrimp as a live alternative. Keep an eye out for calming conditions as they are not expected to last long when the weekend may bring more rain.
BAIT REPORT – With the high water levels bait has been very scattered. For more ideas on what to use you can always rely on our Tips feature with lots of information that may help improve your catch.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – With the crazy 25mph winds there were no offshore reports this week.
INSHORE – Despite the wind that has not made the best conditions, Redfish and Black Drum have been great in the deep channels using cracked crab. Speckled Trout have been migrating in and are getting bigger. Trout have been more than willing to hit a Matrix Shad under a Popping Cork or live Shrimp.
BAIT REPORT – Shrimp numbers are very good through the bays and backwaters right now. There’s a mix of both brown and white Shrimp.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – Offshore trips are getting cancelled due to bad weather.
INSHORE – The Black Drum and the Redfish are the most abundant species to chase right now. Using cracked Crab on the bottom of channels and holes has been yielding good results for Capt. Josh Ellender. The channels and deeper holes are where the Black Drum and Redfish are congregating right now. Look for the channels that are 10 ft to 30 ft deep and the fish are sticking to the bottom. The fish are staying out of the really heavy current, so the deeper the rig is set, the better a chance of hooking up. You can’t go wrong with Crab on a Carolina Rig. If the wind or the current is a little heavier, size weights accordingly.

INSHORE – The Bull Redfish are thick with a few Speckled Trout around as well. Captain Ron recommends using cracked Crab and Shrimp to catch the Redfish and Trout. With the heat during the day the fish are hiding to keep cool. Keep your eyes out for the deeper holes and you’ll be sure to catch some Redfish and, with enough patience, some Speckled Trout as well.BAIT REPORT – A lot of Shrimp and a lot of Crab are around to catch.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
INSHORE – The Redfish have been moving through some of the deeper holes and channels around Cocodrie. Cut up crab on a carolina rig with a ¾ ounce weight sitting on bottom will get picked up by the Redfish. In times of high current, it’s not always easy to get that bait to sit on the bottom. A good alternative when changing gears due to conditions is that Redfish have also been hitting weedless gold spoons in the shallows.BAIT REPORT – Joshua says cut up crabs are working well for Redfish so if you feel like catching some, do it up.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – Capt. Joshua of Ellender Charters says his last couple Amberjack and Mangrove Snapper trips have been pretty productive. They’ve been having to run between 50 and 70 miles offshore to find the fish. Depth range is from about 180 to 300 feet of water. Your fish finder will be your best friend right now as the fish have been showing up in several different depths. Depending on the current, you’ll want to make sure you have a couple different weights weighing between 6oz and 12oz. You want to to make sure you can get that bait down to the bottom. For rigging the live Hardtail, Joshua say he likes to hook them through the nostrils.INSHORE – The Speckled Trout bite is starting to fizzle out. The slot sized Redfish angling has been really good, and the really big Redfish have been on fire. In the passes and around the beaches, you’ll find them in water from 20 to 5 feet deep. Live crab with their legs removed and hooked through the knuckle have been the hot bait for those really big Redfish.
BAIT REPORT – Joshua says on the way out they’d head up to a rig or school of Hardtails and jig a Sabiki. He prefers a minimum 30lb test main line and 20lb minimum test for the branch line. That will save you from breaking fish off if you get too many Hardtail on.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
Offshore- From Grand Isle: The Tuna have moved in to the 40-50 mile range. The winds are starting to calm down enough for some good Tuna runs. Trolling Ballyhoo and Hardtails have been working well. The Hardtails in the 8-10 inch range seem be working better than the 10-12 inch Hardtails. The fishing for Mangrove Snapper around the reefs ain’t bad. Amberjack on the wrecks and structures isn’t too bad either.Inshore- The beaches and shorelines have been producing lots of Redfish and Trout. Capt. Ron says just a simple carolina rig topped with a live Croaker will do the trick. Tides have not been a factor whatsoever. There’s some bad blood between Croaker and Trout as the Croaker eat fish eggs. Use this to your advantage and put the Croaker in front of the Trout, they’ll hit.
Bait- Croaker is around quite regularly. A little piece of shrimp on a hook can be effective for catching them, but the Sabiki Rig is quite productive as well.
Come down and have a good time!

Cocodrie Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – Capt. Tom says the offshore fishing will parallel the conditions of Grand Isle. Here’s the link
INSHORE – The heat is still making for tougher than normal fishing. Speckled trout are still being found under the birds and the Flounder are in the ship canal. Redfish are in the marsh and are, along with the Specks and Flounder, will be taking shrimp. Berkley Gulp is still a great alternative to live.
BAIT REPORT – Still tons of shrimp around, along with the other popular bait fish.
Captain Tom specializes in inshore fishing and loves to take families and older couples. Nothing brings a smile to his face quite like a first trip or a return visit with some retirees. He may not be a hot shot who rips around the marsh at top speed like a tournament fishermen, but he looks to take care of his customers.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – I spoke to Captain Tom over at Fishing Tom Guide Service and he hasn’t heard much about offshore fishing and has not been himself, however, we would encourage you to check out the Grand Isle Fishing Report. Too breezy for him to go out that far but not much to report there.
INSHORE – Fishing has really been lagging. Captain Tom always manages to find enough fish to keep his clients happy, however, the fishing is slow and sometimes nothing can be done. This is because it is really quite hot out. The Speckled Trout are under the birds, the Flounder are in the ship channel, and the Redfish are in the marsh. Live shrimp is an excellent bait for all of those fish, and if you prefer artificial bait, dig out the Berkley Gulp.
BAIT REPORT – There is lots of bait fish around. The lakes are absolutely loaded with it right now. Something to keep in mind is that 75% of the fish are feeding at night.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – Captain Josh gunned for the Red Snapper the first 6 days of the season and did fantastic. Every single day he was limiting out. There was also a good number of Mangrove Snapper to be had. He was fishing with a number of different rigs so don’t be afraid to try different things. He was using Squid, Pogies, and Spanish Sardines, depending on what the bait shop had in store each day. Generally, Squid worked the best because it tends to stay on the rig. For the Mangrove Snapper he was free lining live croakers after he had already caught the fish at the bottoms attention.INSHORE – Speckled Trout have been on fire the last couple months and they are spawning right now. The beaches to the offshore oil field rigs and artificial reef they are thick. Using mostly plastic like a Matrix Shad rig, the one you are using live shrimp or live croaker which works too. As for colors, Captain Josh really likes the Green Hornet, Ultra Violet, and Shrimp Creole on a 1/4oz jig head. Bull Redfish and Drum are hitting good on whole crabs.
BAIT REPORT – If you offshore fish there is bait way out there. But for the inshore stuff, you could catch your own bait but it’s harder to do. Finger mullet are there, tons and tons of mullet. Some cast net for them, but Captain Josh personally doesn’t; he swears by the Matrix Shad.
Captain Josh specializes in Speckled Trout and intercoastal fishing – but he really goes towards whatever is biting. In 2 months he will be doing offshore charters as well. It’s all in the works right now. Give him a call he would love to talk to you have the Speckled Trout, Redfish, and Sheepshead.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – Captain Tom went out to the rigs a little last week where he caught 14 nice Trout but it hasn’t been they good everyday. There has been a lot of wind, making it hard to get out to the rigs and the Gulf has been muddy. There are also some Spade fish around the rigs that get to 3-4 pounds. They hang out in about 100 feet of water.INSHORE – There are lots of Speckled Trout, in small schoolies working under the birds. Use live shrimp if you can. If not, use Berkley Gulp 4 inch swimming Mullet under a cork. Captain Tom recommends fishing the incoming tide at the beginning or the end, Particularly the first and last hour. Mackerel and Tripletail are expected to get stronger; but everything is about a month behind schedule. Its all about the currents, wind and tide. When the clean water is coming in from the south things get better.
BAIT REPORT – Bait has been light. The storms and winds from the last week brought really high tides. There was bait everywhere last week but now it has come to a halt.
Fishing Tom Guide Service, fishes 200+ days a year and is always on the water, he is going to set a personal record this month for doing 26 trips in 30 days.

Cocodrie Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – Bottom fishing is the best bet in this area. There are a lot of Tripletail and some Speckled Trout out there. You’ll find them if you fish the wrecks. If you want to use live bait use shrimp. If you want to go artificial Captain Tom recommends using anything made by Berkley.INSHORE – The stormy weather has been rough for fishing this week but the Speckled Trout and Redfish are going well. Try fishing the Bayous and channels. Berkley Gulp and Shrimp have been working well for the Trout. Spoons work well on the Redfish. Early in the morning you can also use anything with some good topwater action.
BAIT REPORT – There was a lot of bait fish moving around. You’ll find them in the ship channel from the Gulf through the jetties.
