Cape May Fishing Report
INSHORE – Bass (Bass, Striped) are swimming bayside as they swim up the Delaware River to spawn. Most are shorts at this point however once they begin to leave the river there should be some nice keepers. This is when the season will really fire up. There are some smaller residentials around to take advantage of. Anglers are waiting for the big Bluefish to move in. Once the bait moves closer in they will make an appearance. Cape May Fishing Report
INSHORE – We are into March now and still waiting for the fishing to fire up. That being said, towards Atlantic City and North reports of Stripers (Bass, Striped) have already fired up in the back bay as well as up in the rivers (Tuckahoe, Great Egg and Middle River). The numbers are improving as they move out of the rivers towards the bridges and bays. Perch (Sand Perch) are in there taking Bloodworms or Grass Shrimp. Most of the Stripers are on the side banks and rivers towards Beesley’s Point. Most are small from 18-24 inches. They are taking Bloodworms and soft plastics. INSHORE – During the Winter season the migratory fish have left the area and the variety of fish available in State waters are slim. Some anglers are still targeting Stripers (Bass, Striped), Tautog, Cod, Atlantic and other fish that are around over the winter. Most Striper trips will start back up around April or sooner. There are still a few of the big boats running Tautog trips when the weather allows. Any of our listed tackle shops would be glad to steer you in the direction of a boat that’s still sailing. As we find varying weather conditions from day to day we encourage all anglers to stay safe and warm when fishing. This is a great opportunity to check out some of the current Pro Angler App features along with new additions coming soon! We look forward to bringing you more great Pro Reports when the bite fires back up!

Cape May Fishing Report
INSHORE – We have not had any reports come in for the area this week. Even the Delaware side of the bay has been slow as very few Stripers have been caught. If you can catch a break in the weather, there should be some offshore Blackfish (Tautog) to be caught on the wrecks and reefs. Typically casting Green Crabs will do the trick to hook them, although they are becoming more difficult to find at this time of year. Be safe out there!

Cape May Fishing Report
INSHORE – There is not a lot going on this week. Anglers are still fishing Tautog. They are holding up on the Cape May and Wildwood Reefs. Green Crabs or White Legged Crabs are doing well to hook them. Stripers (Bass, Striped) were out there but they were becoming pressured with all the anglers targeting them. The last few days have been windy and it’s been tough to get out. There hasn’t been much action from the beach as the fish that are around are likely further offshore. We expect this to forecast into the holiday week. The Pro Angler Team wishes you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. We look forward to bringing you more great reports in 2017!
OFFSHORE – This is the time of year that Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) can be caught about 60 miles out. Sharks and Bluefish are mixed in. Don’t fish jigs or anything shiny. Drop Clam suspended above the wreck. You can drop to the bottom and crank up a bit. The fish will pile in up to 30 ft above the bottom.

INSHORE – Unfortunately most of the fish (Bass, Striped) are outside the 3 mile line this week. There are still a few fish swimming Delaware Bay. That big push of fish at the rips seems to have tapered off. Hopefully some of those big fish will move back into state waters. OFFSHORE – Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) are doing well about 60 miles out on the rock piles. Clam or Squid with some lead on the bottom are working well. Diamond jigs are getting hit by Bluefish and Sharks. The Blues and Sharks are hitting anything shiny. You can catch a pile of Sea Bass only if you use something without shine.

INSHORE – Stripers (Bass, Striped) are heading down the coast from just South of Corson’s Inlet. Mojos and Bunker Spoons on the cast is most productive. Chartreuse and white are the main colors. Darker colors such as purple on cloudy days are working well. From the surf you can catch a few quality Stripers. In the Delaware bay we are starting to mark some bigger fish when the weather allows us to get out. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report to reveal more angling tips and tricks!
OFFSHORE – Tautog are on the nearshore wrecks about 10 miles out. Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) are farther out around 15-20 miles. Squid or Clams are working well. Green Crabs are better for the Tautog.
BAIT REPORT – Peanut Bunker (Menhaden) and adult Bunker are swimming. You can snag and drop for them.

INSHORE – Stripers (Bass, Striped) are picking up locally around the inlets. Anglers are trolling Mojos or Stretch lures. The afternoon bite has been productive anytime after 1pm. The Tautog inshore are slowing down. Anglers are heading just offshore to the wrecks to find them. The jetties and wrecks are beginning to become a bit scattered. The Delaware bay is holding a few fish as well. Anglers are chunking Bunker to find them. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report to reveal more angling tips and tricks!
OFFSHORE – Recently the Bigeye (Tuna, Bigeye) bite has been on fire when anglers can get out. They are swimming the Wilmington Canyon and biting at night. Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) are doing well on the wrecks in 100 ft or more. They are taking Squid, Clams or Mackerel Strips.

They aren’t in the rips, Delaware Bay or out front yet. There hasn’t been much on Tautog lately either. The weather has still been a bit unfavorable to hit the water at this point. INSHORE – We are seeing the beginning of a Striper (Bass, Striped) bite on the troll. Bucktails or dragging Eels has also been productive. They are right on the 3 mile line off of Cape May as well as around Hereford Inlet. Delaware Bay is quiet except for Dogfish (Dogfish, Spiny). Blackfish (Tautog) are now open. They seem to have moved off the rocks and are a bit difficult to find. When you catch them, they are big. They are likely around 5-10 miles off. INSHORE – Sea Bass are doing really well on the local reefs and wrecks. They are up to 20 inches and more. There are plenty of keepers with Tog mixed in. Tog are taking Green Crabs while the Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) will take Clams, Squid and Mackerel. You can jig for them, similar to the Tog (Tautog). In Delaware Bay we are seeing a thick Bunker run. We expect to see some nice, keeper Bass (Bass, Striped) any time. If you are heading out this week you may have to put some time in to find the fish as they haven’t quite made their way inside yet. Search for the bait to find them. INSHORE – There are still a bit of Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] being caught inshore. The reefs were great right after the recent storm. In 80-100 ft there are nice keepers on the wrecks as well. You will need to cover some water to find them. Jigging bucktails with Gulp in Chartreuse or Nuclear Chicken 6 inch grubs have been productive. Weakfish can be found in Delaware bay from the rips to the pump ground. They are small and mixed with a few Fluke. There will be some time before the Bass (Bass, Striped) move in. There are a few small fish being caught from the surf so we are eager to see this heat up. INSHORE – We hope to see anglers hit the water very soon however the recent weather has slowed fishing down. In the Delaware Bay we were seeing Spike Leaf fish and Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] caught on the banks. On the beach front and the point anglers caught Bluefish to 20 inches. Nice sized Croakers (Croaker, Atlantic) were mixed in that moved in before the storm. Kingfish (Mackerel, King) are good on the beachfront and in the bay. The Fluke on the reefs were hot. Brown Sharks (Shark, Sandbar) are slow on the beach. Schoolie Bass (Bass, Striped) are biting under the bridges at night. They are pushing the bait up. Resident Bass are swimming the jetties. INSHORE – On the inshore scene, Flounder [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] fishing remains on the slower side for keepers. There are plenty of Flounder, but most of them are shorts. Weakfish and Kingfish (Kingfish, Southern) made a great showing this past week right off the beachfront in Wildwood, Cape May and into the Delaware Bay. Most of the Weakfish measured 15-20 inches, however some of the Weakies topped the 25 inch mark. The surf is still producing some Kingfish, Flounder and small Bluefish and the Shark (Shark, Sandbar) fishing in the evenings remains excellent. Back bay fishing is producing less Flounder however the fish that are being caught are a nicer size. Schoolie Stripers (Bass, Striped) are starting to show up in the back bays and are being caught on topwater chugging plugs. Crabby Jack gives the crabbing 3.5 Claws this week, and says the ones that he is catching are BIG and it only takes 6 of them to make a half dozen! INSHORE – It’s been pretty quiet in the area lately. We are seeing quite a few Sharks (Shark, Sandbar) and Rays (Stringray, Southern) as of late. Dogfish (Dogfish, Spiny) have also been holding up in the inshore. The water is even too warm for stray Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] and Stripers (Bass, Striped). Some Kingfish (Kingfish, Southern) have been found along with a handful of Weakfish. Most anglers are heading to Delaware bay. The offshore has been just as slow. Cape May Fishing Report
INSHORE – Down in the bay by Fortesque there is reportedly a good Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] bite in Delaware bay. All the reefs have a slow pick of Flounder. When you do hook them they are nice sizes despite the numbers. The back bays are holding good sizes as well. The nicer fish are in the sounds and channels. Bluefish are on the beach and about a half mile off the point. Around Cape May we are finding short Fluke, Kingfish (Kingfish, Northern) and small Weakfish. The surf is producing Kingfish, Croakers and snapper Blues. The bay seems to be hit and miss. Brown Sharks (Shark, Sandbar) are biting at dusk and dawn. They put up a good fight. Some Croakers are in the back, but they are not heavy yet. Clam Strips are hot this week. Squid has been a key bait for Kingfish and Croakers as well. Gulp has been great, especially for Flounder. Hands Too Bait & Tackle has all your tackle needs! PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report to reveal more angling tips and tricks!
OFFSHORE – The Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) bite is still hot. There are some Mahi (Dolphin) out on the reef that were caught while fishing for Flounder. Quite a few Grouper (Grouper, Gag) are on the oil grounds. There are no reports of Triggerfish (Triggerfish, Gray) yet.
BAIT REPORT – Croakers are on the beach and in the back so far.

INSHORE – Things are still quiet along the beachfront, with a few Kingfish (Mackerel, King) starting to show along with some Snapper (Snapper, Gray), Blues (Bluefish) and some Triggerfish (Triggerfish, Blueline) along the jetties. Crabby Jack gives the crabbing 3.5 Claws this week, and reported many shedder crabs in the trap this week. Crabbing should just keep getting better as we get closer to the full moon. What a difference a week makes! The Fluking [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] bite both in the Back Bays, the Reefs and the Old Grounds has improved since the 4th of July weekend. There are plenty of Fluke scattered around, you just have to pick through the shorts to find your keepers. Sean McIlhenney and Mark Lattanzio checked in with an eight pound 3 ounce Flounder that took a live Minnow at the Cape May Reef while fishing on Sean’s boat KelseA. The fish measured 27 inches. There are nice Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) being caught as well to compliment your catch of Fluke. This is just in time for Sterling Harbor’s 23rd Annual Duke of Fluke Tournament scheduled for this coming Saturday, July 16th! Followed by a Pig Roast BBQ, Live Music and Awards Ceremony! Captain’s Meeting is Friday, July 15th at 7PM. Call the shop @ 609-729-1425 for more information. Small Bluefish are starting to show up off Cape May Point and out at 5 Fathom Bank. OFFSHORE – For the offshore anglers, the Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) bite is on. Jigging and chunking with Butterfish or Sardines has been producing best at Massey’s Canyon and the 19 Fathom Lump. Mike Reed and crew of Rockledge, PA went 2 for 5 on Bluefin Tuna up to 51 inches and had one Yellowfin Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin) while chunking and jigging at Massey Canyon on Mike’s boat Kensington Princess. The trolling bite slowed most likely due to boat traffic in these same areas. Some Mahi-mahi (Dolphin) are also being caught while chunking.

INSHORE – This past week showed a marked improvement in Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] fishing both in the back bays and at Reef Site 11. Nice catches were made with Mackerel strips and Gulp! combo’s. Kayak angler Charles Breon of Villas, NJ reported good Flounder fishing behind the Wildwoods, Stone Harbor and Avalon with keeper fish to 4.5 pounds while fishing from his Hobie Mirage Pro Angler kayak. Frank Hennigan of Glenmoore, PA limited out on Flounder to 23 inches at Reef Site 11. Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) are still being caught along the beaches with North Wildwood being the hotspot this past week. Clam and Bunker have been the bait of choice for the surf anglers. Sterling Harbor is fully stocked with 2016 Hobie Kayaks, and accessories to rig your kayak for fishing. Stop by soon for the best selection and let us help you get out on the water this summer! INSHORE – Fishing along the Jersey Cape was hampered with this past weeks high winds that slowed fishing. The Delaware Bay is still producing nice Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) and some Black Drum (Drum, Black) on the Jersey side. Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] fishing picked up this week at the Old Grounds and Reef Site 11 with Flounder up to 22 inches reported. The back bay Flounder fishing also improved with nice keeper size fish caught from Sea Isle down to the Wildwoods when conditions were right. In the surf, anglers are still catching some nice Striped Bass and an occasional Bluefish from the suds. Rodney Searcy of Wildwood, NJ checked in with a 27.5 pound Striped Bass caught on bunker from the Cape May beach.
OFFSHORE – Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) action remains good at the Cape May Reef and the Inshore Wrecks. Offshore, the high winds slowed things, however there are some nice Mako Sharks (Shark, Mako) and many of the Shark anglers reported schools of Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) breaking while they were sharking. Crabby Jack gives the crabbing 3 Claws this week, and says there were plenty of nice sized crabs, but there were many females with roe, that went back to finish their spawn for future generations.

INSHORE – Anglers are doing well inshore on Weakfish this week. Bloodworms, Bucktails and small hard baits are hitting around jetties and producing Stripers {Bass, Striped) around 30 inches. Bluefish are swimming the Cape May point and back bays. Flounder [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] have been turning up in the back bays as well. They are thick and up to 23 inches. Drum (Drum, Black) continue to hold up in the Delaware bay.
OFFSHORE – Sea Bass are beginning to move offshore and are holding up on the wrecks this week. We haven’t heard too much about offshore Flounder [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] fishing this week. Sharking (Shark, Shortfin Mako & Shark, Blue) continue to do well, especially around Misty Blue. Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) fishing is beginning to pick up around the Canyons. INSHORE – Right now there’s a little bit of everything. Similar to last week, there are lots of larger Stripers (Bass, Striped) and Bluefish being caught off the beach. It seems as if the Bluefish are now more prominent in the area with larger numbers. Bunker and Clam for bait is effective for catching fish tight to the beach. Flounders [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] remain in the back bays. Anglers overall are mainly seeing Bluefish and Stripers, some Weakfish. There are still a lot of Sharks (Shark, Sandbar) around.

INSHORE – Off the beach we are doing well with Stripers (Bass, Striped) this week. Bait such as Bunker and Clams are doing well tight to the beach. Most Bluefish have moved up North but some are still hanging around. Plenty of Weakfish are caught on bucktails as well. The sizes are good. Flounder [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] are in the back bays. Drum (Drum, Black) and Slough fish have been swimming the bay and are hitting fresh Clams. They are in 30 ft of water following the bait.
OFFSHORE – Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) are swimming the Cape May reef. The sizes are great so far and we expect this to continue into the weekend.

INSHORE – The Striper (Bass, Striped) bite is on in the Delaware bay. Drum (Drum, Black) fish are being caught in about 8 ft of water on the side. They are smaller but have better numbers on the Delaware bay side. They are between 7-18 ft on Bunker schools. The water temperature changes have made fishing a bit hit or miss but for the most part the bite is good. The Bluefish have turned on right off the beach. There are heavy schools and easy catches.

Cape May Fishing Report
INSHORE – A couple of trips were known about that fished for Drum (Drum, Black) on Delaware Bay during daytime and nighttime Saturday that caught none, and another trip supposedly landed a couple, said Capt. George from the Heavy Hitter. But he hopes the fishing picks up this week, in better weather, after rough conditions last week. A few Drum trips, the year’s first, are slated to fish this weekend aboard. Tides were also extra high and extra low during the new moon in past days. On Saturday, wind blew from East, contributing to high tides, and on Sunday, wind blew from West, contributing to low tides. All Drum boated on the bay weighed 25 or 35 pounds that George knew about this season so far, except a 70-pounder that a buddy’s trip docked. A few Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) were boated on the bay off Villas in shallows 10 feet. A friend’s trip caught one Saturday, and another trip landed two, and the buddy saw a few others reeled in. Those seemed Stripers finished spawning in Delaware River and migrating to the ocean. Chunks of Bunker hooked them, and anglers needed to be there at the right time to run into the catches. George motored the boat out Sunday just for a ride, and anglers were fishing the surf at the Cape May ferry jetty on the bay. Striper fishing usually picks up there for a time in May as the spawned-out bass head for the ocean.

INSHORE – Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) are hitting well in the bay for the boaters. They are fishing the shallows along the shoreline to find warmer water. It has been tough with the rain and lack of sun. Throwing Bunker has produced the best results. From the surf the plug action has slowed down and most of the fish are being taken on Bunker
OFFSHORE – There is still a lot of action from the surf this week. Weakfish are being caught around the jetties. Floated bloodworms are the best bait. Bucktails with soft plastics have also been productive. Boaters are using strips of Squid.

INSHORE – Scott’s Bait & Tackle will be open for the fishing season beginning Wednesday. The store’s been closed for a winter break, and Bass, Striped season will be open beginning Tuesday in bays and rivers. But the store is always closed Tuesdays. The annual $100 gift certificate to the store will be awarded to the angler who weighs-in the year’s first keeper Striped Bass from Graveling Point. That’s a nearby shore-angling spot at the confluence of Mullica River and Great Bay that gives up some of the year’s first Stripers each year in New Jersey. The river’s warm water seems to attract them, and some of the year’s first also come from Graveling because that’s simply a place that anglers can access that can harbor the fish this time of year. Bloodworms usually catch them best in the early season, and the worms are already stocked. The worms are easy for the fish to digest when the stripers have slow metabolism in cold water. When waters warm, other baits like clams will catch well. Sometimes the fish were banked early in the season, and sometimes late. That depends on water temperature, and this winter’s been warm. Minnows and nightcrawlers should also be stocked when the shop opens. Scott from the store planned to try to net Grass Shrimp Tuesday to stock live, too. The Shrimp are popular for Surfperch, Sand fishing on brackish rivers like the Mullica, and Maureen heard that the perch were reeled from the river.

INSHORE – Scott’s Bait & Tackle will be opened for the fishing season once striped bass season is opened in bays and rivers, Maureen said. Anglers seemed to be getting excited about the striper opener. The striper season will be opened beginning next week on Tuesday, March 1. The store will probably be opened beginning the next day, March 2, because the shop is always closed on Tuesdays. The shop’s been closed for a winter break. All usual bait will be stocked, including bloodworms, so long as the bait is available from suppliers. The annual $100 gift certificate to Scott’s will be awarded to the angler who checks-in the store’s first keeper striper from Graveling Point. That’s a nearby shore-angling spot at the confluence of Great Bay and Mullica River that’s always one of the first places to give up stripers each year in the state. Warm water from the river seems to make them bite. Bloodworms are the favorite bait for the bass early in the season. The worms are easy for the stripers to digest in cold water. Once water becomes warmer, speeding up metabolism for the fish, clams and other baits begin to catch well. Striper season is open year-round in the ocean, within 3 miles from shore. But practically no stripers swim the ocean off the state this time of year. That’s because the ocean is colder than bays and rivers in winter. Striper fishing is closed beyond 3 miles from shore year-round. The store is accepting rod and reel repairs, and telephone to confirm that someone will be at the shop, before stopping by to drop off the repairs. The crew is at the shop, preparing for the season, on most days.

INSHORE – Eighteen or 20 Bass (Bass, Striped) were landed Saturday on the ocean on a trip, Capt. George from the Heavy Hitter said. Eight were bagged, and three of the stripers landed were larger than 43 inches. The fishing was great, and George mated on the trip, on another boat. He fished with friends the next day, Sunday, on another boat, and only two stripers were caught, at the same place as on the previous day, off Ocean City. Lots of boaters seemed to struggle at the fishing that day. All the fish were trolled on the two trips. George is also offering charters for the stripers, and for Blackfish (Tautog), if blackfish are biting. He heard nothing about blackfishing during the weekend, because anglers seemed all to fish for stripers.

Cape May Fishing Report
INSHORE – As of Wednesday, limits of Rockfish (Bass, Striped) were caught at the mouth of the bay. This has been going on since last weekend with the fish finally moving to the Delaware side. The Eights and the Valley have been the top locations, with trolling the best technique at the Eights while drifting with eels has worked well in the Valley. Drifting Eels is generally best when the current is running hard. As it slows the Dogfish, Spiny begin to chew and I for one don’t enjoy feeding expensive baits to those spiny Dogs. The reason drifting Eels works better than trolling in the Valley is because the water there is close to 100 feet deep. Even a Stretch 30 will be running 70 feet above the fish’s head. You will need substantial weight to get a live Eel to the bottom, especially when the current is running hard on the new or full moon. I have found eight ounces will do the job when using braided 50-pound line. If you have not played with live Eels before, you may find them a bit hard to control. You need to keep them in a container in a cooler with ice under a wet towel. Grab them behind the head with a dry rag and get the circle hook in the lower jaw and out the top as quickly as possible. Once you have one hooked put it in the water. Left to dangle in the air, an eel with tie itself in a very slimy knot. You should be using a fish-finder rig and as soon as you feel a pickup let the Rockfish run with the Eel for a few seconds. Put the reel in gear and when the line comes tight the fish will be hooked. To avoid the pressure of wondering Did if I wait too long?, Set the hook too soon? or Miss the fish entirely?, just put the rod in a holder and when the tip bends towards the water pick it up and reel in your fish. While most fishermen are targeting Rockfish a few have had success with tog at the reef sites. Sites 6, 7 and 8 have produced good catches on Green Crab. I did hear of a few big Rockfish in the upper bay. If they hold to form the best bite will come to those who chunk fresh Bunker at locations such as the channel edge out of Collins or Woodland Beach, the Yellow Can and the jetty at Augustine Beach. The tidal rivers and creeks hold good numbers of big Surfperch, Sand. Bloodworms are the prime bait. Big Catfish, Hardhead are in the same locations and will take Bloodworms, cut Bunker and chicken livers. INSHORE – Tog (Tautog) fishing was good over reef sites last weekend. Some anglers caught limits while others had fewer fish. Green crab has been the number one bait. A few Rockfish were caught near the lump off of the Bethany Beach condos. Trolling with plugs, MOJOs and umbrella rigs has been the top technique.
OFFSHORE – The deeper water close to and even in the canyons has seen outstanding action on Sea Bass, Black, Blueline Tilefish, Triggerfish and Bluefish. The recent beautiful weather has allowed boats to reach these waters and the results have been astonishing. Last weekend my son Ric was on a trip to the Norfolk Canyon where they caught six yellowfin tuna, several gaffer dolphin and a 125-pound Tuna, Bigeye. That fish was one of three hooked. Not a bad day for December.
BAIT REPORT – Green Crab are running on the reefs this week and aren’t too difficult to catch. There is also Bunker (Menhaden) running as well in and around the channel edge.

Cape May Fishing Report
INSHORE – Inshore fishing has been pretty good with lots of Stripers (Bass, Striped) around. Boat anglers in Cape May have been trolling out front and also finding some success while chunking Bunker. There was quite a lot of boat traffic over the weekend and the bite seems to have slowed down a little bit on account of pressure. Back in Delaware bay there is a good striper bite for guys fishing bunker chunks. Just look for the schools of Bunker and you’ll find fish.
BAIT REPORT – There are both Peanut and Adult Bunker (Menhaden) running right now as well as some herring. They are working well for bait and for locating fish.

Cape May Fishing Report
INSHORE – There is currently a great Striper (Bass, Striped) run happening in the 30-40 ft range. They are stacking up in the area and anglers are having no trouble finding them. On the occasion when the bait moves in anglers are seeing the bass within 5 ft of water however this is not common. Mojos are the main lure of choice this week along with stretch lures. Once they find the schools anglers will switch to top water poppers, snagging or using bucktails. There has also been some action coming out of Delaware Bay so far this week. The Stripers are holding up in roughly 20 ft of water. The deeper water has been hosting some Sharks (Dogfish, Spiny) that are following the Striper run. This is the best Stripers have been in years.
OFFSHORE – There are still some anglers heading out to do some bottom fishing this week and finding a lot of success so far. The Sea Bass, Black are biting roughly 120 ft out or farther. Most fishermen are dropping any type of bait. The fish are big and don’t seem to care what passes by, they’ll bite. This is expected to continue into the weekend as well.
BAIT REPORT – There are both Peanut and Adult Bunker (Menhaden) running right now as well as some herring. They are working well for bait and for locating fish.

Cape May Fishing Report
INSHORE – Stripers (Bass, Striped) have been absolutely on fire in this area. Some are even saying it’s better than it has been in years. Anglers have been trolling the inshore and reefs for them. There has not been a lot of snagging and dropping action as the Sharks (Dogfish, Spiny) are hitting the bait and most anglers aren’t targetting them. The surf guys are catching short Stripers however the best sizes are coming in from the boats.
OFFSHORE – Due to unfavorable wind conditions most anglers are focusing on the inshore Striper action. There are not a lot of anglers taking the chance on the weather to get offshore. Should conditions lie down and fishermen decide to head out they can always consult our Tips feature which provides additional information and suggestions to help improve the catch.
BAIT REPORT – So far this week there have not been any bait reported from this area

Cape May Fishing Report
INSHORE – The Tog (Tautog) bite has begun to pick up in the past few weeks. They can be found in roughly 40 ft of water using Green Crabs as usual. Tog have been coming up in various sizes, nothing huge yet. Stripers (Bass, Striped) are also swimming the inshore right along the beach. Most are decent sized, nothing too small or oversized. Anglers have been trolling mojos or chunking Bunker (Menhaden) for them. Chunking has also been productive along Delaware bay and in the nearshore, although they have not moved too far off the beach at this point.
OFFSHORE – Sea Bass, Black are swimming the bottom at around 120 ft of water, or 30 miles out. There is not much action in the offshore as this seems to be the only fish showing up. Fishermen who decide to head out on the water for the holiday can always consult our Tips feature which provides additional suggestions and information that could help improve the catch. Alternatively Hands Too Bait & Tackle can provide an up to the minute fishing report if anglers have managed to make their way out.
BAIT REPORT – There are lots of Bunker (Menhaden) running and working well for the inshore fish.

Cape May Fishing Report
INSHORE – Delaware Bay is holding quite a few Stripers (Bass, Striped) as anglers are chunking tight to beach to about a half mile off. Boaters are trolling and using O’Neils to hook them. The surf has become fairly spotty. Blackfish (Tautog) are open and doing well along the jetty and seawalls. Cape May reef has also been producing some nice sized Blackfish on Green Crab.
OFFSHORE – With most of the focus being on Bass, Striped, this has deterred many anglers from heading offshore this week. Fishermen who decide to head to the deeper water they can always consult our Tips feature which provides additional suggestions and information that could help improve the catch. Alternatively Hands Too Bait & Tackle can provide an up to the minute fishing report if anglers have managed to make their way out.
BAIT REPORT – Live Baiters continue to see a Bunker (Menhaden) run in the shallow water.

Cape May Fishing Report
INSHORE – The shallower water is providing a mixed bag of fish as of late. There are some Bluefish, Bass, Striped, and a few keeper Tautog on the rocks. Not all of the Bass are keeper so anglers are taking that into consideration. Some fishermen are trolling but most are chunking the Delaware Bay and finding more successful results.
OFFSHORE – There are currently no offshore reports of this area, however should you decide to venture out when the weather is cooperative you can always check out our Tips feature that provides more tips and information that may help improve your catch.
BAIT REPORT – There are no bait running to report at this time.

Cape May Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – The Canyons have been doing very well now that the seas have laid down a bit. Anglers are mainly using chunk bait consisting of Butterfish for Tuna. Bottom fishing the reefs has been very popular for Bass (Sea Bass, Black) ideally throwing a mixed bag of Clams, Crabs and Cutbait using Mackerel. The weight is always dependent on the weather as you may need anywhere from 4-8 oz on your line.
INSHORE – Bluefish are still hitting Mullet or cut Bunker (Menhaden) and are weighing in anywhere from 1-3 lbs. The back bays and intercoastal waterways have some keeper Bass (Bass, Striped) and some shorts on the beachfront. Generally Bass won’t start biting in good sizes until November which as been the trend the past few years. There has been a small push reported offshore, however they are still not yet legal to keep. Using chunk with a chum line around the mouth of the creeks and bridges, as well as trolling small lures and soft plastics along the side banks will do well. Top water lures and SP Minnows are working well. Tautog can also still be found along with a very large amount of Bluefish anywhere that holds good structure and might have crabs. Once the weather cools down results are expected to increase as anglers fish the wrecks.
BAIT REPORT – There are still lots of Rainfish and Bunker (Menhaden) running and working well with the inshore fish.
OF NOTE – Hands Too Bait and Tackle are always stocked with all of your fresh bait needs.

Cape May Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – As with most of NJ, getting out has been near impossible or at least not too safe. This wind should continue for a few more days.
INSHORE – There’s a few anglers still braving the weather to hit the jetties for Bluefish. Live Mullet and SPs have been working. There’s a few Striped Bass willing to hit poppers but sinking lures have been steadier in the chop.
BAIT REPORT – There’s been some Mullet being netted in some back bays. Some Mullet schools are being spotted around the jetties too.

Cape May Fishing Report
Fishing is quite typical for being near labor day, lots of little fish around. Seabass, Small Bluefish and small Fluke are in the back bays. Some of the baitfish are starting to move. There’s lots of Peanut Bunker that guys are taking to use out on the reefs for Fluke. If you fish some of the deeper holes around the inlets you can find some keeper sized fish. There’s still a lot of Brown Sharks in the surf, the water’s quite warm. They aren’t fishing quite as well as they were in the past couple weeks, but can be caught. The occasional Kingfish can be also caught in the surf on blood worms. There’s a few Croaker mix in out front, not many but they are popping up. There’s been some on and off days on the reefs, which is typical of reef fishing. When the fish are there, they are fishing quite well. Most of the good sized fish are taking big bucktails or big strip baits on rigs. If you go a little further out on the troll, there is some Dolphin and some Bonita. Again, it’s typical late summer fishing around here. The Water is 76-77 degrees and that can make for a slow bite for bigger fish. As the water cools down, we can expect to see the fishing improve.Fin-Atics

Cape May Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – The Canyons, when you can get out, have had very mixed reports on account of the windy days that happened over the past few days. Chunking for has been working well however for some Yellowfin. Butterfish and Sardines are good choices of chunk to feed back into the slick when they come up.INSHORE – The surf is producing the occasional Striped Bass, but it is a little hot now so you shouldn’t bank on catching. Fluke are in the surf taking Spearing. There’s some Bluefish just the surf line and they are occasionally sneaking in close to feed.

Cape May Fishing Report
We are in for a few hot ones this week and we are starting out today in the mid 70s. Wind is from the WSW at 7 and the ocean is 67-69.Beach replenishment is going on near the store. Yesterday’s area was Current beachfill discharge site: Between 16th Street and 14th Street. Current crossover closures: 17th Street, 16th Street, 15th Street, and 14th Street.
Fluke near jetties, Sharks, and Skates from the surf. Surf fishermen are working hard for the Fluke. Many are doing a lot of walking to find a jetty that is holding fish. More catches of Kingfish coming from the surf.
Crabs are now of good size and being caught from street ends and by boat on the mainland side of the bay. Sounds like the place to be this week is at the beach and enjoy that afternoon shore breeze.
Boaters fishing the ocean once again are having good catches of Fluke. Lots of throw backs but anglers are usually able to catch their dinner. Big gulp baits or any larger baits are helping to catch these fish. The northeast winds of last week really perked up the ocean fishing for the fluke.Mackerel are also being caught as anglers are dropping their Fluke rigs down.
Things are much quieter for those fishing the bay. The inlet is the best bet unless you find a stray keeper up in the bay. We are hearing of more Weakfish coming from street end bayside anglers.
Surf fishermen are working hard to catch Fluke. Many are doing a lot of walking to find a jetty that are holding fish. More catches of Kingfish coming from the surf.

Cape May Fishing Report
Inshore – The New Jersey fishing report looks good for the region. A lot of short Flounders are being caught in the back bays and the overall fishing activity had been great. The back bays are producing a lot of schooler Striped Bass. A lot of keeper sized Flounder are moving into the inlets and some of the deep holes with 20-30 ft. depths are holding fish. Live lined Peanut Bunker in the inlets has been a good bet to catching keeper sized Flounder. Along the beaches are some smaller pods of Kingfish and are all over the place. One day they’re hot down south, the next day they’re hot up to Ocean City. There have been numbers of Dolphin fish and Brown Sharks showing up in the surf and that may be contributing to a scattered Kingfish population. The Brown Shark fishing has been absolutely great. They’re being caught early mornings, early evening off the beaches, and even throughout the day. The Best way to fish for the Brown Sharks is with a 36” leader with a 3-way swivel and an 8/0 hook. The hook cap be topped with a chunks of Bunker or Mackerel but the Mackerel seems to be the hotter bait. Throw on a 3 to 5 ounce weight to hold bottom. Please remember that the Brown Shark is protected and must be released unharmed and in a time fashion. Also, they quite an impressive set of dentures so be careful when handling.Offshore – The offshore fisheries have proved to be great fishing as well. Several of the reefs have been fishing very well. The Atlantic City reef has been producing some small Bonita. Some of the small pieces of debris have been also producing fish. The trolling activity has been producing Mahi and some smaller Tuna from Atlantic reef down to the ridge. Don’t forget to park up on the reefs from time to time and drop down some Clam to pick up the odd Sea Bass.
Bait – If you’re coming across any peanut Bunker, now’s the time to net them. There’s starting to be good numbers of Snapper Blues around the piers.
