Cape Canaveral Fishing Report
INSHORE – The bite has been steady inshore this week. For the most part everything is on schedule, aside from the recent wind which has thrown a few fish off. Trout and Redfish are resilient and when anglers are able to make it on the water they are catching fish. Target Trout during the golden hours, sunrise and sunset. With the weather and murky water you’ll want to be using live bait for attraction. The same story goes for Reds, however they are pushing up to the shallower water. They don’t necessarily mind a bit of dirty water, but they still like to keep shallow. Searching areas such as Pumphouse Road in Titusville will be key. Of course, we can’t forget about the Snook as they hold up on docks and mangrove shorelines up and down the coast. Sizes and numbers are good throughout. They too, will likely come on live bait. Deeper docks may be holding Drum, so don’t be surprised if you hook them as a bycatch. The new kid in town has been Bluefish, and they’re coming in with style. Huge sizes have invaded the beaches, in some areas scaring off other species. Pompano and Whiting can be caught from the beach as well, however they aren’t as consistent down the coast. Towards Indian River you can find them in the inlets, but be prepared for a fight.
OFFSHORE – Unsurprisingly wind has made it tough to get offshore this week however a few weather windows have allowed anglers to make quick trips and take advantage of the bite. By far, the best bite has been from the incoming Dolphin as they make their way in. Towards Daytona, anglers are still travelling quite far, to 2500 feet of water to find them. By the time we get to Indian River they are as close as 120 feet of water. The sizes are decent so far and when the weather allows they are definitely worth going after. The bottom bite is also producing this week. Amberjack have turned up from roughly 90 feet of water out of the Indian River area. Sandbar Sharks can also be found swimming offshore, but most anglers are avoiding them while targeting Ajs during the few opportunities they have. Swimming above, anglers are excited to see Kings making their way closer to shore. It shouldn’t be long before they are nearshore. Target them on the troll as they have been quite active over the past week.

INSHORE – Tripletail are in the port on the buoy lines. The inlet is holding a hot Snook (Snook, Common) bite into this week. Monster Bluefish are also around. They are New Jersey Bluefish holding up here and they are up to 20 pounds in big schools which is rare for the area. This time of year they are normally hot however they are usually up to 5 pounds. The big fish just seem to have taken a break on their way up. They will likely continue their move soon. Cobia are a bit scattered but anglers are hooking a few free swimmers here and there.
OFFSHORE – Dolphin fishing has begun to pick up from 150 to 200 feet of water, look for weedlines. Tuna are hot for anglers heading to the other side. Yellowfin (Tuna, Yellowfin) in particular are decent sizes as we head to the West side of the Gulf Stream and the bite is great.

Cape Canaveral Fishing Report
INSHORE – There is a superb variety of fish to be taken inshore this week. The Trout in particular are the main bite so far. The early morning and late evening bite has been, hands down, the best time to fish from Daytona to Port St. Lucie. A variety of setups are working to hook them including both live and artificial baits. As we move towards Titusville we see live bait being more successful. Overall there has been no trouble stacking up a few good Trout. Typically talking about Redfish goes hand in hand with Trout however this week they seem to be a bit more scattered. They are still worth targeting inshore however there are no impressive numbers to report.
Snook are a close second in terms of the hot bite. They, too, are being caught from Daytona through Port St. Lucie. They aren’t too picky in terms of what they have been taking. Artificials such as Spoolteks and Flare Hawks are working along with live Pilchards, Menhaden or Mullet. They seem to be an easy fish to land this week if you are looking for a quick catch.
The typical early Spring fish are beginning to heat up. We are seeing Sheepshead on structure, Drum in the Lagoon, along with Pompano, Bluefish and Whiting heating up on the beaches. We are also seeing tons of bait moving into the coastal areas. Everything is looking good to improve throughout the next few weeks and fire up a great Spring bite.
OFFSHORE – Now that we are finally seeing some nicer weather the bite is beginning to improve. Dolphin are the main catch from Daytona to Port St. Lucie. The sizes are great so far and the bite is steady. Anglers are targeting them anywhere from 150 feet of water and out, with some areas being just a bit closer in 90 feet. Anglers haven’t had any trouble hooking up the past week.
Kings are the next more prominent target into this week. They continue to show up, scattered with Cobia a bit closer to the coast. Anglers are trolling with live bait such as Ballyhoo or Cigar Minnows.
The bottom bite has been producing the usual Snapper and Amberjack anywhere from 60 feet and out. Cape Canaveral and Sebastian in particular have been hot areas to target them.

Cape Canaveral Fishing Report
INSHORE – Even though it’s been tough to get offshore this week there has been a fantastic bite for anglers heading to the surf or the inshore. We are seeing a nice variety of fish starting with a hot Drum bite from Daytona through Vero Beach area. As usual you can find them on structures as well as on the beaches and in the rivers. They are also taking a variety of bait setups including cut Clams, Shrimp or Fishbites. Plenty of Sheepshead are mixed in as they begin to fire up. You can fish them using similar bait setups.
As always, the typical Redfish, Trout and Snook are hanging around. Redfish seem to prefer the Island life so areas like Cucumber Island and the spoil islands will be key. Trout are improving as we move South but if you are targeting them be prepared to be heading out in the early morning for the best bite. Snook can’t seem to make up their minds so they are just about everywhere. It doesn’t take much looking to find them however hooking them will require Pinfish or Greenies this week.
Scattered reports of Flounder on the jetties as well as Pompano and Mackerel on the beach are beginning to come in and they should fire up as the weather improves. Bait is also beginning to show up which is a promising sign.
OFFSHORE – Despite tough fishing conditions there still some anglers braving the waters to take advantage of the unpressured bite. That being said, most reports are coming from closer wrecks and reefs with the bottom bite being more successful. Snapper are turning up in a variety of species this week and can be found consistently from Daytona to Vero. Head out to about 12 miles or look for ledges in 90 feet of water to find the best fish.
With the recent wind there has surprisingly been little debris floating around for Dolphin to be swimming under, so they are fairly scattered into this week. There are some nice catches turning up for anglers trolling Ballyhoo however they are nowhere near a steady bite. King Mackerel and Cobia are hit or miss throughout the region however they are out there if you are targeting them. If you can make it far enough offshore on a nice day, Sailfish have been caught out of Port St. Lucie.

Cape Canaveral Fishing Report
INSHORE – Snook season has been pretty good throughout the Central East Coast of Florida. The hottest bite this week was out of Ft. Pierce. Charter Captains and recreational anglers alike were finding success on live bait or jigs around bridges. Port St. Lucie saw good action in the spillway and locks, you can use shiners here. Nighttime Snook anglers are crediting most of the catches to using Windcheaters, Long As, Live Targets and also Shrimp. Pompano, when you can fish the surf, are decent from the beach in Daytona and Cocoa Beach but windy. They are also at the inlet around Ft. Peirce. Anglers are also doing well from the beach in port. St. Lucie fishing from Sandbar into the drop using goofy jigs or flare hawks. There has been Bluefish mixed in aswell. The Redfish and Trout bite has been steady, though not amazing. The best reports we had all week came from Mosquito Lagoon, where fish were tailing when the wind took a break. The bite was also good near Queen’s Cove on an outgoing tide, and Port St. Lucie saw both Trout and Redfish doing alright to the South.

OFFSHORE – Anglers saw a few bumpy days this week. We would normally expect reports on Mahi, Sailfish, Snappers and Grouper at this time of year. Blame the weather for a limited number of fishable days. Wahoo fishing was slow but should pick up out of Daytona as the full moon sets in. Amberjack have fished well from 80 to 130 feet of water. A live pinfish or other live bait sent to the bottom should do the trick. Red Snapper have been caught and released all over, especially off of Daytona. There are also a lot of reports of Kingfish caught this past week. Good numbers, combined with some poor seas, have kept a lot of angler in 60 to 90 feet of water trolling Clarkspoons, Bluerunners and Threadfins.

Cocoa Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – Trout fishing has been much better here than for Northeast Florida. If you like Trout fishing with live bait, expect to get into some Snook as well. Since the water has been warm, the Snook are fired up from Daytona to anywhere south of that. Most of the big Snook have been caught in the high current areas such as inlets. There’s still some Pompano being caught from the surf throughout the region, they just aren’t on fire. Whiting are mixed in with the Pompano and you can fish some inshore structures for Sheepshead.

OFFSHORE – A few bumpy days kept the boats close and the focus on Cobia, Kings and Ajs. Cape Canaveral landings saw decent number of King Mackerel and Cobia landed this week. Most of the Kings came off of 8A or Pelican, Cobia from fishing structures. There hasn’t been much talk of Cobia on Rays yet, we’re going to have to stick to deeper water for now. It can’t hurt, however, to keep an eye out for them when fishing buoys for Tripletail. Amberjack continued to fish well when the boats could get to at least 80 feet of water. Some popular baits were live Pinfish and Pigfish.

OFFSHORE – Private Boats and Charter Boats alike found good King Mackerel opportunities from Cape Canaveral down to Sebastian Inlet. Off of Cape Canaveral in particular, Captains reported lots of Kings being caught around 8A. The only thing that seemed to slow the fishing down was a little bit of weather.
Cobia reports were slim this week although the Palm Bay / Melbourne area did offer up some of these fish in 60 ft of water. Offshore bait had been a little lean from Daytona Beach and South towards Stuart, trolling for Dolphin only saw a few boats hooking Gaffers.

Cape Canaveral / Cocoa Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – Beach fishing has been decent throughout the region. Whiting, Bluefish and Pompano are being caught in good numbers up around New Smyrna Beach. As you go South towards Cocoa Beach you will begin to see more Redfish, Black Drum and Sharks such as Blacktip, Spinner and Blacknose on the beach. Palm Bay and Melbourne area in particular has a good number of Sharks chasing Whiting on the beach.
Inlet fishing from Palm Bay down to Port St. Lucie has been really productive for Snook anglers. Jack Crevalle are also being caught while Snook fishing. Most of the Jacks have been caught South of Vero beach.
Trout and Redfish haven’t been spectacular by any means however they are around any of the usual inshore flats and creeks all throughout Indian River. Shrimp, MirrOdines and DOAs will hook them.
OFFSHORE – For anyone looking to catch some Wahoo on the high speed troll they can travel to the gulf stream out of Daytona / New Smyrna area or South of Port St. Lucie. Dolphin have been really scattered. The best areas to head out of will be Palm Bay / Melbourne or farther South of Stuart. Kingfish and Sailfish have been decent when the boats can get out. Successful boats have launched out of Port Canaveral, Fort Pierce and South.
Offshore and nearshore bottom fishing was strongest from Palm Bay down to Vero Beach. Mostly Lanes and Vermillion Snapper are turning up. As you move farther South Mangroves are mixed in. Particularly off of Stuart there are plenty of catch and release Triggerfish. The only real word on Cobia came in from anglers fishing the wrecks and reefs out of Vero Beach.

INSHORE – Since Hurricane Matthew the fishing has been a bit slow into this week. Most anglers are staying off the water. The water is dirty however Redfish (Drum, Red) and Snook (Snook, Common) can be found around the jetties. The wind is still strong for the most part. The Pro Angler Team’s thoughts are with all those affected by Hurricane Matthew this past week. We encourage all anglers to stay safe as they return to their homes, businesses and favorite fishing areas. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks!

Anglers are staying close to shore for the most part this week. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – With this system pushing through most of Florida, we expect a lot of wind and tough conditions. INSHORE – We had a great month of May so far and the fish really started to turn on. The Bunkers have finally been consistent as we were getting them from the bight all the way to the pier. Just look where the fleet is in the morning and you can’t miss them. I see someone every day trying to throw the Wal-Mart 6 footer. Do yourself a favor and invest in that right net. From the beach to local reefs, Tarpon, Jack Crevalle (Jack, Crevalle), Bonita (Bonito, Little Tunny), Spanish Mackeral (Mackerel, Spanish) and Kingfish (Kingfish, Southern) have been from the beach 20 feet to about 40 feet. We have been having a lot of fun on light tackle with all these power hitting fish. Use live Pogies hooked through the nostrils on 50lb fluorocarbon leader with an 8/0 circle hook. If you start getting cut off a lot then time to put the wired Stinger rigs on for those toothy Kings. Keep a jig ready for the Cobia for when you see or mark the bait out there as this is the time of year they start to show up on the bait pods just off the beach. Good luck and have a great June from your premier fishing guide charters of Cocoa Beach Port Canaveral Orlando Florida area.
OFFSHORE – The nearshore reefs such as Pelican Flats and 8A have been great for the early morning king bite. Use your stinger rigs and live Pogies for the best catch. In the last few weeks there has been Wahoo, Blackfin Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin), Mahi (Dolphin) and a handful of Cobia all caught on king rigs in the same area. From the reefs to offshore has been good as well. There was a solid few days of great catches of Mahi and we should still see a few weeks of it. Many fish have been caught from 140-180 feet and some days past 500 feet, It’s just a day to day thing and up to the winds and weather as usual. The basic Ballyhoo rigs and skirts have been the key. Bottom fishing has also been decent. Pinfish and Croakers are a great bait for them. Fish the offshore reefs such as 21 and 27 and if you have any of the wrecks that’s a good start too. Don’t forget about the Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater). They’ve been great and should continue as well.

INSHORE – Have you noticed the cherry blossom trees blooming? I’ll give you a few hints, bucktails, March? Yup, you guessed it, Cobia! We have already seen some stud fish around and it’s only going to get better. Normally, the Cobias show up around mid February but better numbers are in March. We are looking forward to using our new boats with the 25 foot towers! One key to Cobia fishing is getting as high as you can to look for them or the rays that may be holding the fish. I have no idea why these fish always swim with other large creatures such as Whales, Turtles, Sharks (Shark, Blacktip & Shark, Spinner), Rays (Stingray, Southern), Skates (Skates, Winter), etc. Speaking of whales, STAY AWAY from them. Some are protected and some are not. If you’re in doubt, drive away from them! Major fines are not what you want to catch. Another must have for fishing is sunglasses and good polarized ones at that. We on Fired up Fishing Charters wear RCI Optics. They are a local company with impeccable service. Sun is an obvious must. If you’re going to go look for a fish swimming around, you have to be able to see them. Buck tails are another great tool of the trade. You can tip the hooks with squid or plastic curly grubs. Chartreuse colors seem to work well but if they are hungry they will eat a tin can as they are not the smartest fish around. Hope everyone gets out there and gets a few for the grill! INSHORE – Sheepshead, Drum (Drum, Black), Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Winter) have been hot in that order. Live Sand Fleas are working best for Sheepshead and working better than Fiddler Crabs. Spoons and Plugs, anything that is shiny, have been working best for the Bluefish and Mackerel, Spanish, that have been on the beach. Fish bites and Pompano Jigs with Clam and Shrimp are hooking the Pompano fairly easily. Crocodile Lures and Williamson jigs are doing well along the beach as well.
OFFSHORE – Dolphin are biting from 100-140 and Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) are mixed in. They are huge so far. Very small lures are the key to hooking them. Trolling or casting out has worked well. INSHORE – The Cobia has been spotty this week in the nearshore area. There are Pompano, Florida swimming on the beach and they will hit Sand Fleas or Shrimp so far. The sizes have been great so far and the bite is consistent.
OFFSHORE – There are a lot of Kingfish (Mackerel, King) swimming offshore. Huge Wahoo are being caught as well however the bite is not as consistent. They are both about 25 miles out towards the gulf stream this week.

Cape Canaveral / Cocoa Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – Nearshore fishing has really picked up as well. If it’s too rough to get offshore then work the near shore beach line. Pompano, Florida and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern & Kingfish, Northern) have been great and excellent eating as well. Our Shark bite is still in the dumps!! Not sure what it is but hopefully it picks up for the shark trips scheduled. Hope this helps and enjoy the pics This report has been brought to you by Captain Chris Cameron of Fired Up Fishing Charters, your premier fishing guide charter of shark fishing Cocoa Beach, offshore fishing Port Canaveral, nearshore fishing Cape Canaveral, Orlando charter fishing.
OFFSHORE – Many charters have been calling me and asking if the fishing is any good this time of year. My answer is, the fishing is about as good as it gets right now. The only thing we are dealing with is the winds. When the weather allows and we can manage to get offshore the King (Mackerel, King) fishing is great. Use your standard stinger rigs and frozen Minnows. If you find live bait that’s great too. In the mix of Kings have been Mahi (Dolphin), Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) and Tuna, Blackfin. Everything is eating the same baits, no need to change anything up. Use your machines and find and mark the bait, once you find that you should be good to go. Even though you can’t keep any Snapper, Red or Grouper right now the bottom fishing is great. The bigger the bait the bigger the fish.

Cape Canaveral / Cocoa Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – The Pompano, Florida are beginning their run this week and doing well on dead Shrimp. Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) are also swimming the area and hitting Mud Minnows and bigger Shrimp on jigheads. Sheepshead are holding up on rock pilings and structures. They are typically loving Fiddler Crabs and Sand Fleas. The incline banks are a great place to look for them. The best time to fish this week is from low to high tide where the best sizes are being caught.
OFFSHORE – It’s been rough throughout the offshore this week due to harsh weather conditions. There are a few Dolphin still being caught from 120-225 ft. on skirted Ballyhoo. Blue/White and pink/white are the best colors. The Tripletail bite has been spotty but is still present for anglers targeting them.

INSHORE – With the weather lately the fish have been hit and miss. Some of the inshore anglers are still getting some Reds (Drum, Red) as well as some Snook, Common from the surf. There have been no reports of Bluefish, Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) or Tripletail so far this week however we hope to see some turn up when conditions relax. The main focus has been on bottom fishing which should pick up when the weather lies down.

INSHORE – There are plenty of fish to target throughout the inshore this week. Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) are hitting in the same water as Bluefish and a few Tripletail. There have also been some Sheepshead moving in due to the cooler weather. They are turning up in good sizes. The Pompano, Florida bite has slowed down but they are still around for anglers targeting them. There have been no reports of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) or Reds (Drum, Red) so far this week.
OFFSHORE – Until we recently received some unfavorable weather in this area the offshore bite was great. Anglers were hitting their limits of Kings (Mackerel, King) quickly and they are also mixed in with some good sizes of Wahoo. 80-90 ft is the best place to find them so far. Past this mark there are some great Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) and Dolphin as well. We expect this bite to continue once conditions clear up. There are tons of great bait in stock at Water’s Edge! INSHORE – The main focus this week as been on Drum (Drum, Black). There are tons of them and anglers are having no trouble reeling them in. They are loving live Shrimp or fresh dead Shrimp. Basically any Shrimp you can get your hands on. There is not a lot of reports of Drum, Red and the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have been all tiny so far this week. Everyone is going after Drum.
OFFSHORE – The hot bite this week from the offshore has been the Barracuda, Great and Kings (Mackerel, King) on the reefs. There has also been consistent Snapper (Snapper, Mutton & Snapper, Gray) coming off the bottom. They are loving cut bait.
BAIT REPORT – If you’re willing to put the time in you can still catch some Mullet however they have been quite scarce so far this week.

OFFSHORE – In the offshore there have not been a lot of boats heading out due to weather. Triggerfish and Snapper, Mutton and Snapper, Vermillion are still turning up so far. The Mahi (Dolphin) bite has continued through the rough weather and we expect the same results when conditions lie down.

INSHORE – There is still a bite for anglers heading out this weekend. Reports are coming in of some Flounder (Flounder, Gulf & Flounder, Southern) and a few Reds (Drum, Red) however the Mullet have moved out so a lot of the fish have followed the run. The Reds are not nearly as abundant as they were a few weeks ago. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are still showing up. There are some big sizes however nothing extraordinarily big so far. Live Mullet was working great however anglers have switched to Mirrolures as they flash and stand out in the dirty water. There are also reports of Pompano, Florida in the surf.
OFFSHORE – Snapper, Mutton and Snapper, Vermillion are biting off the bottom in the deep water. They are swimming below some good sizes of Kings (Mackerel, King) that are being caught on the troll. Mahi (Dolphin) and Cobia are swimming as well in the same area which is roughly 10-20 miles off the shore.
BAIT REPORT – Mullet have moved out and most anglers are switching to artificial at this point. Lots of Holiday sales happening at Sunrise Marina. Stop in and pick up that last minute gift for your favorite angler.

Cape Canaveral / Cocoa Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – Fishing has been awesome as it usually is this time of year. Menhaden are working great as live bait this week. Work the pods close to shore for giant Drum, Red and other species feeding on them. Use a 50lb mono leader with a 1-2 oz weight and a 7/0 circle hook. You can Knocker rig it or fish finder rig it. Take the pogies off shore for some great kingfish action in all the normal areas. This time of year all the commercial guys are out there trying to support their families. Please remember to give them space. There’s plenty of ocean out there.
OFFSHORE – Mahi (Dolphin) fishing has also been picking up. This is the time of year they migrate South. Its not as good as the spring run but can definitely pay off! Use all the typical Mahi rigs. Ballyhoo and strip baits work just fine. Every trip we are catching a few Cobia. So keep a jig handy. Hope you all have an awesome holiday and enjoy your families.
BAIT REPORT – Bunker (Menhaden) pods have finally showed up and should continue to stay around a little while longer. Cape Canaveral / Cocoa Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) and Reds (Drum, Red) have been hitting along the shore. They are still turning up in great numbers, continuing the best Red season in a long time. Live bait is working well to hook them. They aren’t picky so just about anything will do. Sheepshead are absolutely on fire as well along the walls of the Port. Weights have ranged from 5-8 lbs on Fiddler Crabs.
OFFSHORE – The conditions offshore have calmed down for a little bit and anglers have made it to the offshore for a few trips. They have been targeting Wahoo and Dolphin. Blue/white and Pink/white have been the best colors to catch them this week. There have also been Tripletail brought in from the buoys. They will bite just about anything live, even some cut bait so there should be no problem hooking them. The wind is expected to pick up by the end of the week and waves will be high. Anglers should take caution if heading out this weekend.
BAIT REPORT – Mud Minnows and Fiddler Crabs are running this week, working well for both inshore and offshore fish.

INSHORE – The wind is blowing on the inshore as well however anglers continue to reel in big Reds (Drum, Red) from the deep pockets by the shoals and piers. It is the best Red fishing in a long time. The simplest way to catch is to net a Porgy pod and cast into it and the fish will bite.
OFFSHORE – The wind has deterred a lot of anglers from heading offshore this week however there are still some reports coming in. Prior to the weather conditions there was a solid King (Mackerel, King) bite on Pelican reef. There was also some reports of the occasional Cobia, Tuna, Blackfin, Wahoo and Billfish – Sailfish mixed in as well. Our sources expect this to pick up again if the wind stays out of the East this holiday weekend.

INSHORE – The Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) are moving in and the bite has been increasing this week. Snapper (Snapper, Mutton & Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Lane) are all hiding in the port while Snook, Common are hiding along the rock piles on the jetty or at the lighthouse. OFFSHORE – Weather conditions are tough this week. No one has been able to get offshore in the rough water, so no reports have come in at this point. The sporadic Dolphin bite is still expected to continue once the weather calms down. Anglers who decide to head out can check our TIPS feature which provides additional information and suggestions to improve the catch. BAIT REPORT – Lots of Mullet and Pilchards are running and Sardines are beginning to make their way in. Water’s Edge 321-868-1929November 13, 2015
Cape Canaveral / Cocoa Beach
INSHORE – Snook, Common are swimming around the banks and are hitting jerk baits and DOAs. Anglers should note to use weedless lures as this area has a lot of green. Reds (Drum, Red) are also turning up with a few Seatrout, Spotted, although they are pretty sporadic. The bigger Reds are nearshore where the breeder reds are. They can also be found off the beaches and the cape. Pogies or live bait in 20 or less feet of water are the best method to catch them. OFFSHORE – Dolphin have been singling out in the deeper water. This has made them far more sporadic. They have mainly been found around the 20 mile buoy mark. At the edge of the stream anglers can find lots of Wahoo in around 250 ft of water. They are chasing Ballyhoo with light colored skirts in pink and blue. BAIT REPORT – Schools of Mullet are running but they are starting to become sporadic and thin out. Cape Canaveral / Cocoa Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – Canaveral has finally been picking up. The Pogies and Mullet are in full swing and there’s many species following the bait. We are still seeing some Tarpon mixed in with Snook (Snook, Common), Bull Reds (Drum, Red), and plenty of Sharks. You can find the Mullet much closer to the beach and the Pogies will be just offshore of that. Look for them flipping on the surface as well as the mudd balls. Using fish finder rigs and knocker rigs with a 1 oz weight seem to be working just fine with a 6/0 circle hook. You can hook the Pogies through the lips or even through the tail and giving them some slack to swim around. OFFSHORE – Further offshore we are seeing the Kings (Mackerel, King) starting to eat. Also mixed with them are some Mahi (Dolphin) and Cobia the last few weeks. Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) and Wahoo are not uncommon this time of year either. The best areas seem to be the reefs as usual in 70 feet of water. BAIT REPORT – Mullet are in full swing and there’s many species following the bait. You can find them much closer to the beach and the Menhaden (Pogies) will be just offshore of that as they are also in great numbers. Look for them flipping on the surface as well as the mudd balls. Fired Up Fishing Charters 407-222-3573Cape Canaveral Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – The weather has not been the best for anyone looking to get out to the deeper water, but we have still had some good reports. The Snapper bite (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Mutton) has been solid. There have also been reports of some Cobia and even a few Bass (Sea Bass, Black) on the bottom along the reefs. Anglers are using live bait offshore as some choose to bring Sardines and Squid while others catch bigger sized Shrimp that is a hit with the Snapper.
INSHORE – Whiting (Kingfish, Southern & Kingfish, Gulf) has been living up to it’s expected results and they are biting pretty well. Reds (Drum, Red) have also had steady reports coming in. Today is one of the first days that a lot of people have headed out due to the recent weather systems. They all seem to be taking Shrimp and Mullet with them which is convenience since they are running.
BAIT REPORT – There is a thick Mullet run right now which would be great to take advantage of for inshore fish.

Cape Canaveral Fishing Report
Soon we will be dressing our little ones up for Halloween. Crazy how fast this season has flown by us. I’m already getting excited for Christmas:) Sailfish and Wahoo will be seen more now as the water temps cool. Wahoo are generally better at sunrise. They also like higher speeds and as we know, there are many different tactics in “hoo fishing” and a book can be written on them. I always get lucky on the shotgun line with a big black/red islander with a horse Ballyhoo. Cobia will start up again soon. We really need to have some colder nights first though to cool the water back down. It’s still kind of warm considering we need it around 70 degrees give and take.
Now is the time that we start to see Mahi running again more consistently than the few here and there. Whether they are actually coming back from the keys or going back to the keys, who knows… Find some weed lines out there and give it a try, we had a good day in 95 feet last week working weed patches with live Pogies. If you already have the live bait from the morning cast netting, try to slow troll livies in the same way. Mahi will also eat Mullet. So if you can’t find the Pogies you should have no problem catching the Mullet as well.
If you haven’t noticed the Mullet run going on; it still is. Every morning I go out I see them up and down the beach getting hit on by everything. I also see the smaller Mullet rounding the jetties getting smacked by Redfish and Snook. Though it may not be the best table fare, Jacks, Bonita, Sharks and Spanish Mackerel have been all over the Mullet. Kingfish are still doing well at the local reefs. Use stinger rigs and live pogies. There was a few days that Pogies were hard to come by so use frozen Cigar Minnows if that’s the case. If you’re using frozen bait, spinning minnows, you may want to tip the rig with a kingbuster. Try a few colors till you find what is working best. Sometimes a naked dead bait works just fine. Lately it has been day to day. One day you can limit out in the first hour and the next day in the same conditions you cannot buy a bite. If you need any help please don’t hesitate to call us. If you have some pictures to share for the Coastal Angler brag board please send them to firedupcharters@gmail.com.

OFFSHORE – At 240 to 300 ft there are a lot of nice Dolphin being caught. If you get out to 900 ft you can almost walk on the Dolphin they’re so thick. If you go too deep and you’ll probably limit out for the day. To get from 300 ft to 900 ft is only 20 to 30 minute ride. To get to the big patches check out between 900 ft and 1500 ft and look for color change, water change, temperature change, and stuff floating. Ballyhoo with blue and white, black and gold, or pink and white skirts are working well right now. INSHORE – Inshore there are lots of Cobia, King Mackerel, AJs, and bottom fishing is all the Red Snapper you cannot keep. Within a mile from shore you can find Flounder, Mangrove, and Sheephead. On the North Jetty and on the Cans the Flounder are 6 – 7 pounds. BAIT REPORT – Shrimp are good, the Mud Minnows are just starting to come in. OFFSHORE – There’s some really good sized Dolphin have moved in quite a bit here. Lots of 20-30lb fish are being caught. They are quite concentrated as well. They were in 400-500 feet of water last week and are now in just 240 – 300 feet of water. That’s about a 20-25 mile run offshore. There are good weedlines out there, and the best part is that there’s a color change out there too. Skirted Ballyhoo works better out there than bare. Blue/White, Pink/White, and Black/Orange are all hot color combos right now.Water’s Edge

OFFSHORE – Dolphin are being found along the weeds in 400 to 700 feet of water. They’ve been hitting bubble blasters in Blue and White, Pink and White, Red and Orange. Daisy chains of Squid are also working well. There’s been some Wahoo and Kings all over Hetzel and 8a. The above mentioned trolling lures are working for the Wahoo as well. Keep in mind that they usually prefer to hit bait a faster than Dolphin, so you’ll want to be pulling about 14mph on the upper end. The bottom bite has been very good and the reefs have been producing lots of Triggerfish and Sea Bass with the deeper reefs offering up some big Grouper and some Snapper.Water’s Edge

Cape Canaveral Fishing Report
What can we expect to see in September? That’s a really darn good question. If its anything like the last several months its basically unpredictable!I have only been charter fishing out of Canaveral for about 10 years now and I still have so much to learn. This year has been completely odd/off to say the least. Lets start with bait. Pogies have been basically extinct. So the normal run to the pier and throw the net a few times and go to 8A has not happened. Instead we search for schools of scalies, greenies, blue runners or threadfins in hopes of sabikiing the baits. Then we gotta go to where we think the fish are… Has been tough to say the least. But I must also admit that fishing has been pretty decent as long as you can find the right bait.
As for predicting the next month as of now will be tough. We are still dealing with the thermocline issues. If you hit all the wrecks you will find AJ and snapper still towards the mid to top of the water column. They will eat jigs tipped with squid and any live bait that swims down. We should see the water warming up soon and that should bring back the pogies a little more consistently. Many of the baits have been on all the buoys and cans to the north. Take your live bait to your favorite fishing spots and try it out. This is all we have been doing. Bouncing from spot to spot to make our days work. Remember it’s fishing and not catching. Any day exploring out there is better than not!
Shark fishing has been pretty decent. mid-day has been the best time lately. Best baits are chuncks of bonita and barracuda. Fish in the 20-30 foot depths both north and south of the Cocoa beach pier. Good luck.

Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – The main bite offshore has been Kingfish, Amberjacks, and Mangrove Snapper. The bottom fishing the last few weeks hasn’t been good, but it is starting to pick up again and people are catching decent sized mangroves off of the reefs. You want to troll for the Kingfish, and you can catch them anywhere from the beach line to the trough.INSHORE – You can target pretty much everything inshore from Reds, Jacks, Snook, Trout, Mangroves, and Sheepshead. Our friends at Sunrise Marina like to throw soft bait like the shadtail at the Jacks, but they have had a lot of success using the little minnows around. Remember – even elephants eat peanuts and even if your bait isn’t big, you can still catch big fish.
BAIT REPORT – You should be able to net up some mud minnows.

Cape Canaveral Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – The bottom fishing is still slow, but it is there. Trolling for Wahoo has been good. There were two Cobia caught yesterday and a bunch of Kings. If you are fishing buoy 8A is good. Try heading 17-18 miles out from the port. There are lots of fish there. However, if you are an old hand to the area and are looking for a little something else then you want to head to the Cones. Eddy at the Water’s Edge saw a guy come in with 5 Grouper over 50 pounds and a Golden Tile from there. The water is warming up and those big fish are hungry as hell out there!INSHORE – The fishing is great right now, with lots of Flounder inside and around the fort. Between the first few buoys and the pier is also a great place to go. There are lots of Mangroves, Tripletail, Mutton, and Eddy saw the biggest mutton he has ever seen at 20 inches! IN 20 feet of water there are lots of fish biting, and your go to bait is going to be the Shrimp and Mud Minnows. But Eddy has been selling a lot of the Spanish Sardines right now. Usually you use Spanish Sardines for bottom fishing offshore but one of the local guys started trying them inshore and has had huge success and now everybody is doing it. They are easily out performing the Mud Minnows and Shrimp.
BAIT REPORT – Bait fish is normal, not an abundance of anything, but you can catch bait for yourself if you are willing to spend the time.

OFFSHORE – The cold water that has been welling up, and it is slowly starting to dissipate. Once the water gets warm again fishing will kick back up. On Wednesday there was three times as many people fishing as usual because it finally started to get nice out. Go out past 8A and you should find some nice Kingfish. The Kings are also collecting around the shoals so check your usual places. The Cobia are out there, and two weeks ago they were hitting really hard, but 100 boats started fishing them out as soon as they heard, and chances are it has died down now.INSHORE – The fishing here has also been affected by the thermocline. Before the thermocline there was a great Tripletail bite. There are Snappers and a lot of other small fish biting. If you are willing to go a little ways off shore the troughs are good right now, and there have been scattered reports of Redfish.
RIVER – The river fishing has been good, with great catches of Trout, Mangrove Snapper, Redfish, Sheepshead, and Whiting. The Titusville report covers this in further depth.
BAIT REPORT – There are Mullet and Pinfish in the river, and you can catch your own but the big Mullet run hasn’t come through yet.

Cape Canaveral Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – I had a great conversation with Joe over at Water’s Edge and he recommended that I go over to 8A. It isn’t that far offshore but all the fish you want to catch are there. Dolphin, Wahoo, Kings, Cobia, you name it. Joe likes to troll Ballyhoo for the Dolphin and Wahoo, usually with a skirt that is blue and white, or pink and white. However, he says his biggest fish are caught on the black and orange skirts. The bottom fishing is good to, in the sense that you are going to catch fish, bad in the sense that they are all going to be a certain red fish that shall not be named. Because we can’t keep them. You are going to catch Triggerfish, Sea Bass, and Mangrove Snapper out there, but you are going to have to fight your way to get through those red devils first.INSHORE – Here you can catch a lot more fish even if they are smaller. Joe recommends fishing the North Jetty because there are lots of Whiting, Mangrove Snapper, Flounder, and Sheepshead. There is a bunch of other fish thrown in to – like Red and Black Drum. Fish north of the jetty and then work down towards the flats. There is a sand bar about a mile down – the water changes color you can’t miss it – try fishing there. Throw to the shallow and work your line back out deep. For bait you are going to want to use Shrimp and Mud Minnows primarily, but you can have a lot of fun with spoons too.
BAIT REPORT – Pinfish are around but you gotta catch them by hand. Pogies are few and far between – and while you could waste two or three hours finding bait, you could just buy it and be fishing that much sooner.
Water’s Edge is literally on the water’s edge. It is right on the ocean, and you can be fishing within 30 seconds of buying bait. Be sure to say hi to Joe for me.

OFFSHORE – Joe at the Water’s Edge has seen Cobia out at Bethel Shoals. For the best offshore fishing you want to go to the wrecks or reefs and bottom fish. However, right now there is a Labrador current so the fish are off of the bottom – don’t drop your bait all the way down. Use your best judgment and consider a slow troll over the reef. Expect to find Mangrove and Mutton Snapper down there. There is also a good number of Amberjack, Bonito, and too many Sharks to count. Your bait of choice is going to be Squid or Spanish Sardines. There are some Dolphin between 90-120 feet, see if you can spot a weedline and troll for them.INSHORE – Joe has heard that there are some Pogies down below Patrick, which means that there is bound to be some other large fish if you plan on staying inshore.
BAIT REPORT – While there are reports of Pogies down below Patrick, baitfish are notoriously fickle, and if that is out of your way it is probably better to just buy bait.

OFFSHORE – Bottom fishing, people are catching Grouper, Amberjack, and Kings every now and again. There is the occasional Cobia mixed in. You want to try and bottom fish reefs and wrecks in the 150 range, but feel free to float around. Dropping down squid and sardines has proved to be really good right now. If you would rather feel the wind against your face, you can try going trolling for the Wahoo with a chugger.INSHORE – Fishing is really good inside the port right now. Bill at Doc’s Bait & Tackle has reported seeing a lot of Tripletail and Flounder. Near the first buoy there is more Tripletail and some Cobia. The rivers are doing good catching Trout, Mangrove Snapper, Black Drum, Sheepshead, and Redfish. Snook season isn’t open yet and won’t be until the Fall but a lot of people are catching them.
BAIT REPORT – Bait is hard to get right now because the first batch of finger mullet have gone out to the ocean to spawn, but once they come back we will have another batch. Pinfish are around, however, you can catch big Mullet and use them as cut bait in the river.

OFFSHORE – Curtis over at Sunrise Marina has heard the Kingfish, Amberjack, and Cobia are all biting good on squid and frozen sardines. It is best to bottom fish for these guys. Your best bet for tight lines is to take some of those baits down to a hard bottom, reef, or wreck. However, if you are trolling you will see the occasional Dolphin, but they aren’t anything to brag about right now. Bottom fishing offshore. Not many dolphin poking there heads out but they are there. Try trolling Split Tail Mullet or Ballyhoo for the Dolphin at around 5 knots. INSHORE – The main fish that everyone has been fighting is Tarpon. They are on the beaches or not far away. These guys love shrimp; but if you are looking to outsmart them with an artificial go with a topwater plug early in the morning – if the tide is moving all the better. The Mangrove Snapper, Snook, and Flounder have also been biting, and while there may be a best bait for each fish, live shrimp works just as good for each of them.
BAIT REPORT – Bait has been hard to find, but if you find a good spot and chum you can put your cast net to work.

Cape Canaveral Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – The Amberjack, Kings have been very good. The Mahi Mahi and Cobia have been a little hit or miss lately. For the Amberjacks you’ll want to bottom fish. Try dropping down some Pinfish. If you’d rather troll for Kingfish you’ll want to troll Pogies if you can. If you troll down the beach at a depth of 80 to 120 feet you should have some luck.INSHORE – The fishing is really good all over. There are lots of Redfish, Trout and Whiting. They are hitting really well on Shrimp. As always remember to fish when the water is moving. If you don’t want to use Shrimp then you can use a lure in white and red.. DOAs or Bombers are good. You’ll also find some Mangrove Snapper hanging around but the Tripletail and Flounder haven’t shown up yet.
BAIT REPORT – You’ll find Mullet and Pinfish in the river.

Cape Canaveral Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – The bite is good for Dolphin and Kingfish. For these fish you’ll want to buy some frozen Ballyhoo and consider adding a skirt to it. Blue and white or pink and white seem to be working well lately. You’ll find the Dolphin are in pretty close, in the 90-150 foot range. If Dolphin and Kingfish aren’t you fancy try fishing the buoy line for some Triple Tail. Though there aren’t as many as two or three weeks ago, the bite is still good.INSHORE – Try fishing the jetty for Flounder. The mangrove have been hanging out there in abundance too. As always you want to avoid the slack tide and fish when the water is moving. A lot of people are using the Mission fishing jig with a ¼ ounce of Squid or Shrimp. Mackerel and Blues are also biting. They are going for Gotcha plugs.
BAIT REPORT – The work that is being done on the canal is making bait scarce.
Karen of Water’s Edge makes custom lures, inshore Jigs and offshore Jigs. Although she used to make them in the store, she now makes them at home because of their new smaller location at the new boat ramps. There she sells rods, reels, and everything fishing.

Cape Canaveral Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – In terms of bottom fishing you’ll find Amberjack a few Grouper, Mangrove Snapper, and the ever elusive Red Snapper. If you can get live Pinfish or Croakers then drop those as they have been quite effective.INSHORE – Inshore the water clarity is decent but dependant on the wind. Artificals are a lot fo fun for catching Reds, Trout, and the occasional Snook. Tarpon are also starting to roll in and you’ll want to catch those using Shrimp or live mullet.
BAIT REPORT – There is plenty of bait around. You’ll find tons of Mullet, Pogies, Pinfish and Croakers.
