Bonita Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – The wind has made offshore fishing tough, but when anglers can get out they are finding that the bottom bite hasn’t suffered much. Grouper and Snapper are turning up within 12 miles this week. Rocky structure on the bottom will be your best place to target them using live bait. Keep in mind you may need to take a look at the regulations on your Pro Angler App to determine what you can harvest. Cut live bait will bring the most success. The Kings can be found within 20 miles. Anglers are looking for bait balls on the bottom for the best place to cast their live bait setup. If all else fails, anglers can almost always find Permit swimming around so it’s always a good idea to keep silver dollar sized Blue Crabs on board!

OFFSHORE – It’s been a bit tough to get a handle on the fishing throughout the area this week. With all the recent weather the fish are a bit confused and the bite hasn’t been as easy as we would hope. The ol’ reliables are still hanging around. Redfish continue to bite, but are preferring live bait. Port Charlotte has been a particularly active area, especially throughout the harbor. There is a nice variety of fish throughout the harbor area and anglers aren’t having trouble hooking some of them as bycatches. Snook are hit or miss depending on where you are. Most are over slot and a lot of fun to target, finding them has been the challenge this week. Using live bait in the passes has been productive overall. Fishing as natural presentations as possible has been the best strategy this week. They are already starting to improve as we see more consistent weather. It’s been no surprise that Sheepshead are holding up on structure. Mackerel are beginning to make their way in. Permit are schooled up and spread over several areas, and Tarpon are hiding in some of the rivers. These species haven’t been as hot as we would like to see however we have no doubt they will heat up very soon.

INSHORE – Things are turning on and the fish have shown up. Inside, Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are doing very well. They are in the 17-22 inch range taking jerk baits or live Shrimp under a popping cork. Nice Snook (Snook, Common) to 26 inches are also turning up and they are providing great action for anglers.
OFFSHORE – The reefs are holding nice Vermillion Snapper and Mangroves (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Vermillion). Great Cobia have also been landed by trolling. They are schooled up and sometimes we will get multiple hits at the same time. Head to roughly 40 feet of water and troll 20 feet down at 4 miles per hour to find them as they make their way back through. Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red) are also swimming the bottom providing a decent catch and release bite. Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) have also been caught in the same 40 foot area.

Bonita Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – Resident Tarpon are cruising the flats. There has been a few scattered in the 20 Foot Holes throughout the Harbors, as well as PGI Canal and Alligator Creek Reef to name a few of the hot areas Fishin’ Franks provided this week. They are taking a variety of baits from Marco through Venice however the best bite has come out of Port Charlotte.
Along the bushes and oyster bars we are seeing great Redfish and Snook. Moving water is the key to finding them. With the fluctuating temperatures the Reds are preferring live bait such as Pilchards along with a variety of soft plastics. The Snook are becoming a bit lethargic to the North with the drop in temperature however they should heat up well once we see some consistently nice weather.
As usual Sheepshead are holding up on their typical structures taking halved Shrimp on a 4 or 6 hook wit a Split Shot.
OFFSHORE – The offshore has had quite the mixed bag of fish this week. On the bottom, the bite has been successful for those targeting Grouper, Amberjack and Snapper. The Snapper aren’t picky, so don’t worry too much about what you are sending down to them. They seem to be providing a consistent bite no matter what. Grouper are a bit tougher. They are preferring live bait. Amberjack are now closed, but if you are looking for an active catch and release bite then this is your fish.
Closer to the top anglers have spotted Bonito, Blackfin, Spanish and Kings scattered from Marco to Venice. The numbers aren’t outstanding, but they’ll all be a good fish to target if you’re looking for a bit of a challenge.

Bonita Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – Despite the rough weather there are plenty of areas to fish this week that are producing well. Juvenile and sub adult Tarpon are moving out of the rivers. Snook are still in the river at Fort Myers but most are small with few legal sizes. Further North, Punta Gorda Isle Canals are loaded with juvenile Tarpon and a good variety of Snook. They were beginning to fire up however the recent cold front may have them a bit more scattered and lethargic until favorable conditions return. This week the hottest Snook and Tarpon have turned up out of the Port Charlotte area. Check out the Pro Angler App report for more details.
Redfish are sporadic up and down the coast. Typical areas are holding fish that are taking Sardines or Shrimp. Trout are also hit or miss but prefer a popping cork combo, scented plastic on a jig or can even be caught on the drift. Occasionally you’ll find Jacks or Ladyfish mixed in. They are heating up just in time for the bait run. Mullet, Whitebait, Threadfins and Pinfish are just beginning to make an appearance.
OFFSHORE – The bite has been tough offshore this week as many anglers have had a difficult time finding a weather window to head out. Prior to the front the Snapper, Amberjack, Kings and Tuna were all beginning to heat up and provide steady action for anglers. This week we are seeing a different picture. Snapper are still around however the closer, nearshore bite is a bit more successful. Heading out to 40 to 60 feet using live bait is your best bet. Some are even finding limits of Lanes towards Venice. Grouper and scattered Amberjack have been mixed in and caught while targeting the Snapper.
Kings are a lot closer this week and can be found less than 18 miles out. Spanish Mackerel may be caught as well. We expect the cold weather to have pushed them out by next week.

Bonita Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – Snook season is underway in the gulf fish of all sizes have been cooperating despite an unseasonal weather pattern. There have been a lot of anglers finding success in the Caloosahatchee River near Fort Myers as well as Bull Bay near Boca Grande. You should be able to get by throwing small Shrimp and bait patterns. Our best report for Redfish came from Fishin Franks in Port Charlotte this week. You can find them swimming the 41 bridge to Eagles Cut. Potholes, Sandbars and cutoffs are fishing well. DOA in white or Shad on a weedless hook is working well to fish them as if you are fishing for Bass. Snook are mixed in. Fishin Franks had a lot to say about the fishing around Port Charlotte and Boca Grande this week, you can view their full report in the Pro Angler App. Your typical fish can almost always be found throughout the area. Sheepshead are thick in Marco, Sanibel and Bonito. Pompano are swimming the outside bars with Cobia and Flounder. Seatrout can be caught around mouths of Cutoffs taking Shrimp while Black Drum are holding up on bridges and structure in the harbor.

OFFSHORE – If you wanted to target fish that can’t be found year round, this is the time to fish Southwest Florida! Good sizes of Kingfish have been caught off of Naples and starting into Sanibel. We expect Sanibel and Port Charlotte to fire up as they have not yet done so. Nearshore wrecks and reefs (30-35 FOW) have been producing Cobia, decent sized Cobia at that. Most anglers have been using artificial Eels on a chartreuse jighead. Moving out to deeper water anglers can expect a reasonable Amberjack bite 5-6 miles from shore.

Snook have been caught on Shrimp or larger artificials in Marco. In Gasparilla Sound – Charlotte Harbor, the East and West Wall, PGI and Port Charlotte Canals are also producing. Keeper Grouper have been consistent in 45 to 60 ft of water from Sanibel up to Boca Grande and again to Sarasota on cut Herring. Snapper have put on a decent show. They have been taking a variety of baits this week including Shrimp, cut Herring, Squid, Pilchards or Finger mullet. Range wise, you’ll want to start at 7 miles out 15 miles. If you’d prefer to fish in closer on account of the seas, or you like Sheepshead, well, there’s Sheepshead on a lot of the nearshore wrecks and reefs. They taste great and are usually pretty forgiving in regards to your presentation. Just drop some small Shrimp or Fiddler Crab to the bottom and they shouldn’t have a problem biting. INSHORE – It’s definitely a Snook’s time to shine this week. They are waking up inshore from Marco Island to Port Charlotte and they are hungry! With the Whitebait running they are on the move and in search of some live Shrimp on a hook! They seem to be just about anywhere from islands to channels to canals. It has been difficult not to run into them. Trout are also consistent into this week. They are swimming their typical Spring patterns already and are also loving live bait. The sizes have been great so far. Focus on the shallower water for the best bites! Structure is holding a variety of species to be caught. Mangrove Snapper, Sheepshead and Jack Crevalle are mixed throughout the inshore water. The sizes are nothing great quite yet however we expect them to provide some great action for anglers in the coming weeks. If all else fails you can always find a few Redfish inshore. This week they are preferring artificial swim baits and MirrOdines. Scattered Black Drum can be found alongside, especially in the Boca Grande and Port Charlotte area. Towards Venice a handful of Pompano and Spanish Mackerel are moving in. Live bait is your best bet to hit them. We expect the bite to heat up in the next few weeks. The bottom bite is still consistent despite weather conditions. Mangrove Snapper and Greater Amberjack can be found on reefs along with a few Gag Grouper. The Amberjack are the most consistent catch. Everything seems to be nearshore with an extremely quiet offshore bite. Pro Angler TeamFebruary 24, 2017

INSHORE – Marco Island and Naples have had a good showing of Pompano in the passes and channels. The grass flats have been producing Trout. Redfish have been caught around the bushes just off of deeper water. From Naples up to Estero Bay inshore and nearshore structures are producing a decent Sheepshead bite. The Sheepshead haven’t been too picky about time of day as long as you put some bait in front of them. Up into Sanibel the Sheepshead continue to bite well on bridges and pilings. Mangrove Snapper and Sheepshead have also been caught in the passes. If you are looking to target big Snook you can head up the Caloosahatchee River. Try throwing big swimbaits or Mullet. There is still an abundance of juvenile Tarpon in the region. The best spots are PGI canal and the Caloosahatchee River. Boca Grande Pass, Captiva Pass and surrounding beaches have been good for anyone wishing to catch Whiting or Pompano. OFFSHORE – The artificial reefs in Southwest Florida have been fishing well for Cobia anglers. The Cobia haven’t been locked down to a specific depth, although you’ll want to start in at least 30 feet of water for some better sizes. From Sanibel to Venice, the most productive artificials seem to be anything eel like by the Hogy Lure company. Big Gray Snapper, aka Mangrove Snapper, have been hauled off of nearshore reefs from Sanibel up to Boca Grande. Amberjack, Amberjack, Amberjack! Everyone is fired up as these prized bottom fish are being caught throughout Southwest Florida on artificial reefs and wrecks from 40-80 ft of water. The bigger boats have been finding big Ajs past 80 ft although this is mostly to the North of Port Charlotte. There has also been good Red Grouper fishing about 25 miles off of Venice. You’ll also get into some Lane Snappers and catch and release Red Snappers there too. For anyone wanting to get out and target Permit, boats heading out of Boca Grande have been getting some decent fish in 50 ft of water. INSHORE – The Redfish (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has been excellent this past week. Using live or artificial Shrimp, slow down your presentation because the water temps have dropped. Also large Sheepshead around structure inside the passes and around beaches. Use small pieces of Shrimp, Crab, or Sand Fleas. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are also around and will take the same baits. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below to reveal tons of information and tips to catch! OFFSHORE – Red Grouper (Grouper, Red) are biting well in deeper water using large dead or live baits. Tripletail fishing is producing large ones, look around the crab trap buoys. Offer them a live Shrimp or small Pilchard and you are in the money. Also look for those large Sheepshead on the nearshore reefs, using small pieces of Shrimp. A few Reds (Drum, Red) are being caught for anglers putting some time in. Snapper (Snapper, Gray) are holding up on the reefs. ON recent trips were have scored Snook, Redfish (Drum, Red), Seatrout (Seatrout, Spotted), Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) and even a couple of Goliath Grouper (Grouper, Goliath). The Redfish are biting best on the inbound tide where there is good water movement. We have been finding them in the feeder creeks of Estero Bay. The Snook (Snook, Common) are there too and they are still on the feed. Normally by this time of year they are holding up to escape the colder weather, not so this year. INSHORE – Snook (Snook, Common) are a little on the small side lately but still eating. Speckled sea Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are readily eating and some are running in the 19 inches -26 inche range. The Redfish (Drum, Red) bite is moderate, mostly a mixed bag 18-34 inches. The air temps are staying warm so the water is doing the same. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks! OFFSHORE – This week the bite has been a bit more productive. They can typically be found around Crab Pots and Buoys. Red Grouper (Grouper, Red) and Snapper (Snapper, Gray) are running a little short. You’ll have to put some time in to find them. INSHORE – The bite is a bit slow but there are still some decent Snook (Snook, Common), Trout and slot sized Reds (Drum, Red). Bait is working better than lures however quarter oz jigs with a hybrid Flurry or Berkley Gulp are working well. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are taking popping corks with 2 ft of line under it and a quarter oz jig with a hybrid Flurry. You can cover a lot of ground with this setup. INSHORE – The Wind has lightened up, the water temperature has cooled down and the bait is in. Overall the fishing has turned on. Groups of Cobia cruising around sand bars near deeper channels as well. Bait Box Shrimp still a hot bait along with Pinfish, Shiners and Crabs! Stronger current in the pass will require more weight than most other fishing areas. Warmer water has made Shark fishing strong as ever in the evening with some cut Spanish Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish), Ladyfish and fresh Mullet. Redfish (Drum, Red) are starting to show up and are biting shrimp on a popping cork as well as cut bait, such as Ladyfish, and spoons. Throughout the Ding Darling area Redfish can be found along most of the culverts along with Snook, lots of juvenile Tarpon and Trout. Free Lined Shrimp works best at the culverts, and bait fish such as Greenbacks, or Pinfish fished on bottom along the banks. Many species are being caught throughout the preserve. Greenbacks and Pinfish have been spotted at a few of the culverts, so keep your cast nets ready! Gulp swim baits and D.O.A. Deadly Combo have been super effective throughout the refuge. Shrimp under a popping cork will get great results here. Around the Causeway Islands Sheepshead are beginning to bite near shore, they love shrimp and fiddler Crabs. INSHORE – Trout, Redfish (Drum, Red) and Snook (Snook, Common) have been caught. There is a nice mixed bag of fish. We hope the wind will die down soon and the bite will improve further out. It has made fishing difficult however the fish are biting despite this. It’s best to get out in the morning. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are preferring artificials while Snook are taking live bait. The fishing is not too bad on the beach but once you head out more than a mile conditions are rough. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks! Bonita Beach / North Naples Fishing Report
INSHORE – This past week’s poor tides made it difficult for anglers in the mornings. The best bite was later in the morning as the water levels increased allowing fishing around the oyster bars and mangrove islands. The water was also pretty muddy so cut baits like Ladyfish and Pinfish seemed to work best due to the smell. These cut baits on 2/0 circle hooks fished around the transition zones between the grass and oysters produced the best catches of Redfish (Drum, Red). There were also a few Snook (Snook, Common) mixed in although most were well under slot fish. There has also been a good mixed bag in the passes of Spanish Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish), Ladyfish, and Jacks (Jack, Crevalle). The best set-up seems to be shrimp under popping corks. This is also a good time to throw artificials if you are looking for action so break out the jerk shads, rapala x raps, or even chuggers as these will work fine. INSHORE – This past week the bite on Estero Bay provided anglers with plenty of options. Redfish (Drum, Red) have been hanging around the oyster bars and mangroves on higher water and moving onto the nearby grass flats as the tide recedes. Free lined Pinfish seem to be the ticket although cut ladyfish will also work. Cut bait seems to take longer so anglers need to be patient if this is the bait of choice. There have been plenty of Spanish Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish), Ladyfish, and Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) chasing small baits around inside the passes and they will take Shrimp under popping corks all day long. INSHORE – Redfish (Drum, Red) are moving in. The bite is good. Big Shrimp under popping corks in 3-5 ft of water is your best bet to hook the fish. The Snook (Snook, Common) bite is decent, not hot. Outgoing tides near the passes using Pilchards is key. A few Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are around. Use small jigs tipped with Shrimp in pink or chartreuse. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks! OFFSHORE – Grouper (Grouper, Red) and Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail) are taking cut Squid, Herring or live Pinfish. Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) are biting well just off the beaches. A few King Mackerel (Mackerel, King) are beginning to show but they aren’t consistent yet. Free line bait to find a King or Cobia over the reefs and wrecks. BAIT REPORT – Bait is hit or miss from day to day however when you find it they are good in size and thick in numbers. We are seeing Pilchards under the birds or searching the surface on a calm day. Bonita Beach / North Naples Fishing Report
INSHORE – The fishing conditions have changed quite a bit following tropical storm Hermine. The water was really churned up and the fish somewhat shut down. Anglers seemed to have better luck on outgoing tide because there was cleaner water coming out of the bay compared to that in the gulf. That being said there were many small Tarpon along the east wall of Estero Bay because of all the run-off. Free-lining whitebaits under floats worked best. There was a decent redfish bite around the oyster bars and mangrove islands. The best bite came on Shrimp and cut bait probably due to the scent. Chumming the water help considerably. Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) continue to be a staple in the shallows and shrimp tipped jig heads will work. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks! INSHORE – Prior to the recent weather pattern we were seeing Pompano (Pompano, Florida), Snapper (Snapper, Gray) and Snook (Snook, Common) out at the Pass and Big Carlos. We hope to see this bite continue after the system as moved through. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – With this system pushing through most of Florida, we expect a lot of wind and tough conditions. Most of the fishing from last week should fire back up once the storm passes. Expect to see the rainfall cool off inshore waters. This will help some of the fish that prefer cooler conditions. Stay informed on all the coming weather systems using your Pro Angler App! OFFSHORE – There hasn’t been a lot going on here lately due to the weather. INSHORE – The Tripletail are on every buoy but you have to go out about 7 miles to find some good ones. The morning bite has been most productive using a DOA Shrimp or live Shrimp so they can see it. They love it and there is no need to even chum. The Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Lane) bite is still on. They are in about 35 ft of water and are thick. The Tarpon are rolling off Sanibel right now but watch out for the Bull Sharks (Shark, Bull). There were some catch and release 75 lb Tarpon but the Bulls were jamming them up. Farther out there are much nicer fish and less people around. The early angler get the fish. The back bays are still getting some runoff so most anglers are avoiding this. Snook (Snook, Common) are on the docks this week. Outgoing high tide is the best time to fish. They are everywhere and anglers are having no difficulty catching a few. Gear up heavy as they are big! Things are slower right off the beach as the water is still a bit dirty. Most anglers are going out a bit or to a different area altogether. OFFSHORE – Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red) are out in 70 ft of water, around 30 miles out. BAIT REPORT – Pinfish are around but difficult to find this week. INSHORE – The afternoon bite is when anglers are are moving to mangroves as the high tide and the wind is pushing the fish there. The Redfish (Drum, Red) are chasing the Mullet in this area so they will be plentiful. Look for the Mullet to find them. Heading towards the docks we are seeing Sheepshead, Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) and Snook (Snook, Common). Look for old docks as they will have the barnacles and hold the best fish. OFFSHORE – Fishing the outskirts of Sanibel on the wrecks has produced best results on the early morning bites. Winds pick up in the afternoon. There are tons of Sharks (Shark, Blacktip & Shark, Sandbar & Shark, Bonnethead) which are fun to catch. Everyone is having a blast. We are not seeing many Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red). Capt. OFFSHORE – Fishing is great in the area this week. The Tripletail are on every other buoy ten miles out and beyond. There are at least two on each. They are great sizes as well. Anglers are going to 35 ft of water for some Bluefish and plenty of Snapper (Snapper, Yellowtail). The Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red) were taking just about anything from chunked Bluefish or chunked Spanish Mackerel on small circle hook. Anglers throwing DOAs were finding they were biting them in half. They weren’t even hitting the bottom before the Grouper would hit. Small structure is the place to look. They are eating just about anything so chumming will work well. The early morning bite is far more productive. Capt. INSHORE – Lately anglers have been pass fishing with Shrimp to get Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish), Whiting (Kingfish, Southern), Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), small Jacks (Jack, Crevalle), and small Sharks (Shark, Bonnethead). Some people are using corks as well for the Spanish. The nearshore reefs are holding some small fish but if you can weed through them you’ll find some keepers. Anglers are finding Sheepshead, Snapper (Snapper, Gray), Pompano (Pompano, Florida), Trout, Jacks, and Spanish. The grass flats in the deeper water are also holding even more Trout in good sizes. Shrimp under a cork in 3-5 ft is the best. Redfish (Drum, Red) have been scattered but your best bet is to fish higher water around the mangroves and oyster bars using Shrimp on the bottom or cut bait. The bite has been pretty good! Capt. INSHORE – Sharks (Shark, Blacktip) have been swimming the pass this week however they are breaking a lot of lines. Sheepshead are still out there as well on structure. Some Pompano, Florida and bigger Snapper, Gray are turning up a bit farther out this week. Anglers are gearing up for the Spring bite so if you would like to plan out your strategy take a look at our Fish feature which provides tons of tips and tricks to keep your lines tight. INSHORE – Lots of Sheepshead have been in the backwater this week. They are throughout the nearshore as well. Generally they are suckers for Crab or Shrimp. Similar artificials will work well. There are some Reds (Drum, Red) and small Snook, Common hanging around. Anglers will have to put some time in to find them as they are a bit scattered this week. We expect this bite to continue into the weekend. OFFSHORE – There are some Grouper, Red being caught on small jigs however anglers have to head farther out to catch them. The farther out you, the bigger the fish you find. Even at 120 ft there are small fish being reported. Master Bait & Tackle 239-992-2553 www.masterbaitonline.comMarch 3, 2016

INSHORE – It’s slowly picking up this week. The Sheepshead bite is heating up. Anglers are also catching Permit on crabs also. The beach is holding some Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) that can be caught on Shrimp as well. Snook, Common, just opened however we have not had any reports yet. OFFSHORE – Grouper, Red is open in limited locations and some anglers are making the run to roughly 20 fathoms which is 74 miles or 120 ft deep. Keep in mind you cannot fish past this area. INSHORE – Things have been slow in this area as of late due to the weather in the past month. Anglers are still producing if they fish the weather. The cooler it is, the later you can start while the water heats up. The morning bite is producing Snook (Snook, Common), Reds (Drum, Red), Snapper (Snapper, Gray) and big Sheepshead. Sheepshead have been all over tons of structures. Small Shrimp have been working well to hook them although Sand Fleas and small Fiddler Crabs have been killer as well. They will fight for the bait. The wrecks are holding Mackerel, Spanish, and Bluerunners that are hot. There have also been some Drum, Black around the key as well. They are feeding along with the Sheepshead this week. You just have to be willing to tough it out. We expect this to continue into the weekend. Make your reservation with Capt. James Fricke before all the slots fill up! Fishing in this area is great! BAIT REPORT – The nearshore wrecks are holding lots of Bluerunners to use for offshore bait if the weather ever settles down. Capt. INSHORE – Reds (Drum, Red), Snook (Snook, Common) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are holding up in the backwater. Anglers are throwing tube jigs with Shrimp to hook them. The water is beginning to clear up. Jack, Crevalle and Ladyfish have also been hooked this week however they are not the target for most anglers. OFFSHORE – The Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail) are still being caught in great numbers throughout the offshore this week. We expect this bite to continue into the weekend. Bonita Beach / North Naples Fishing Report
INSHORE – Not many people are heading out this week due to the wind and water run off. There some Sheepshead and Reds (Drum, Red) that should still be swimming when there is a break in the weather. If you can head out when the sun is out it will have warmed up the water and made the fish a little more active and likely to bite. There are some sporadic Snook, Common hitting however they will only show up when the water is warm. They will become hot towards the Spring fishing season. OFFSHORE – Grouper, Red is open and is the target for anglers when they can get out to the deeper water. Recent weather conditions have made going offshore unfavorable however we hope to see things clear up soon as the Grouper are hungry! Bonita Beach / North Naples Fishing Report
INSHORE – There is a terrible front moving through so far this week. Not many anglers are getting out so far. The mornings have seemed to be okay for fishing however things change quickly. The Sheepshead are still moving through so anglers are focusing on this bite. If all else fails the Sharks are always biting. This is a great backup if you hit the water and cannot seem to hook anything, they’re always hungry and will eat just about anything. When the weather settles we expect the Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) bite to continue along with the Drum, Red and Snook, Common. BAIT REPORT – Anglers are digging up their own Sand Fleas to use as inshore bait this week. Capt. James Fricke Local Island Charters 239-222-4029 www.localislandcharters.comJanuary 28, 2016
Bonita Beach / North Naples Fishing Report
INSHORE – Since the water has remained warm there are still great catches of Sheepshead and Flounder (Flounder, Gulf & Flounder, Southern). Fiddler Crabs will work well however they are difficult to find so most anglers are throwing Sand Fleas as they can be caught live as well. There are still some Reds (Drum, Red) and Snook, Common which are catch and release. A spotty Drum, Black bite has turned up as well. OFFSHORE – Things have been slow due to wind however the Grouper, Red have been catching well offshore. They are the main target as the Gags are closed. They are hitting at about 35 miles offshore. Anglers are throwing Spanish Sardines, Octopus and Squid. You might find a Grouper, Gag here and there but remember, they are only catch and release until the Spring. Snapper, Yellowtail are catching offshore as well and doing great. BAIT REPORT – Anglers are digging up their own Sand Fleas to use as inshore bait this week. INSHORE – It’s been tough due to harsh weather conditions lately however anglers are getting out in the afternoons to take advantage of the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite on live Shrimp. The winter Sheepshead bite is still amazing on DOAs, live Shrimp in small sizes. The bigger catch is on the smaller Shrimp. The large Shrimp will be torn apart. Look at the tide, if it’s not moving the fish aren’t eating. They are measured up to 26 inches! Capt. James Fricke Local Island Charters 239-222-4029 www.localislandcharters.comJanuary 15, 2016

INSHORE – There are quite a few fish swimming the inshore this week. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are mixed with some Reds (Drum, Red), Snook (Snook, Common), Flounder (Flounder, Gulf & Flounder, Southern) and Snapper (Snapper, Mutton & Snapper, Lane). They are all doing well on Shrimp, either live or similar soft plastic. OFFSHORE – There are still lots of Kings (Mackerel, King) swimming the offshore this week. The Grouper (Grouper, Red) are easy to max out on as well. They are swimming anywhere from 5-40 miles off the shore. The conditions are a little better this week and anglers are not finding it too difficult to get on the water. Master Bait & Tackle 239-992-2553 masterbaitonline.comJanuary 6, 2016

OFFSHORE – The wind has kept a lot of angler off the water and the fish are fairly scattered. INSHORE – Capt. James fished in Sanibel this week and was using artificial bucktail jigs under a popping cork to hook tons of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) up to 26 inches. He also found root beer color to work well for Reds (Drum, Red). There are no reports so far of Snook, Common turning up yet however we do not expect that they have moved out and we hope to see some by the weekend. Capt. INSHORE – The recent front has pushed some dirty water into the area and this is where the Pompano, Florida have been hiding. There are also good reports of Snook, Common and Redfish (Drum, Red). They are loving live Shrimp this week. Tarpon and Mackerel, Spanish are still in the nearshore along with a few Cobia that have moved in. Sand fleas and tube jigs are continuing to work well for them this week. OFFSHORE – There is still a Mackerel, King bite offshore. They are doing well and coming up in great sizes off the wrecks and structures. Bluerunners are the best bait for them this week. BAIT REPORT – Threadfin Herring and Blue runners are both swimming this week. Rose Marina 239-438-4333 ? http://rosemarina.com/December 17, 2015

INSHORE – There have been reports of Tripletail on either Shrimp or a fly so far this week. They are fairly small however there are plenty of them. Mackerel, Spanish and Pompano, Florida are swimming the pass this week. Sheepshead, Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), Reds (Drum, Red) and Snook, Common have all had consistent bite this week although the Snook are not easy and anglers have to put their time in. The Trout and Reds are hitting while working a popping cork rig in the grass flats. Some anglers are putting soft plastics under the cork to save on Shrimp. There have been no signs of Snapper so far this week. BAIT REPORT – There is still bait swimming this week. Anglers can stock up on Threadfins before they head out as they are plentiful so far. INSHORE – There is a mixed bag of fish swimming the inshore so far this week. Snook, Common, Reds (Drum, Red), Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Snapper (Snapper, Gray) are all holding in the shallow water. They are loving Shimp and there should be no problem hooking up if you are throwing that. Tripletail has shown up just about everywhere and anglers are surprised at how abundant they are. It’s been years since they were this thick however they are still small. OFFSHORE – There is a lot of action in this area lately and the nice weather is beginning to set in. The warm temperatures have created a somewhat summer fishing pattern so anglers are happy about this. Permit, Cobia, Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) and Kings (Mackerel, King) are all swimming the offshore this week. Anglers are awaiting the Grouper, Gag open on January 1st. Until then they are throwing large string lures for the Cobia. This has been a difficult bite as there are no crabs to stock up on Permit and they aren’t hitting Shrimp. There are enough to walk on but they won’t hit anything. Anyone heading out will find them around 5-10 miles off the coast. It’s the catching that’s the tough part. BAIT REPORT – There are Pinfish running the inshore this week and can be caught on Sabiki, netted or trapped. Master Bait & Tackle 239-992-2553 masterbaitonline.comDecember 3, 2015
Bonita Beach / North Naples Fishing Report
INSHORE – Some big Reds (Drum, Red) have come through this week. Live Shrimp continues to be productively hooking them. Snapper (Snapper, Lane & Snapper, Mutton) have also turned up in the nearshore. We are hearing about all kinds of fish this week, even some big Jacks (Jack, Crevalle). There are no reports of Seatrout, Spotted so far this week. OFFSHORE – Cobia in this area is absolutely on fire this week. They are hitting anything anywhere. Mackerel, Spanish are also around now that the water has calmed down. Along the bottom there are Grouper, Red along with Grouper, Gag which are now closed. Both Grouper have been right around the edge of the nearshore. BAIT REPORT – There are no reports of bait running so far this week. Master Bait & Tackle 239-992-2553 masterbaitonline.comNovember 26, 2015
Bonita Beach / North Naples Fishing Report
INSHORE – There has not been a whole lot of action inshore as of late. The wind has made unfavorable conditions in unsheltered areas. The full moon has also created a high tide which is more challenging for anglers on land. There have been reports of Reds (Drum, Red) that have been caught along the mangroves. They have been using live Shrimp and finding that most effective. There are still a couple of Pompano, Florida swimming and can be caught on a jighead. They are travelling and on the move so may be a challenge to find. Seatrout, Spotted are spotty but still present in the nearshore. They are hitting a jig tipped with Shrimp. OFFSHORE – There have been a few reports of Grouper, Gags being caught just outside the edge of the nearshore. They have made their way in due to the warm water as well as some remnants of Red Tide. There have not been any reports of Mackerel, King this week however the Mackerel, Spanish have been swimming the offshore and there may be some good bites over the holiday weekend. BAIT REPORT – Shrimp are continuing to run and are working extremely well for inshore fish. Master Bait & Tackle 239-992-2553 masterbaitonline.comNovember 20, 2015
Bonita Beach / North Naples Fishing Report
INSHORE – Despite the forceful winds this week there are still plenty of ways to get on the water. Sticking to the bridges and back bay, the afternoon high tide has provided some shelter. The wind has been pushing baitfish into the Mangrove (Snapper, Mangrove) and they have been on fire. The last part of the incoming tide as well the changeover is the most effective with the biggest live Shrimp anglers can find. DOA’s are a great alternative though nothing has compared to live this week. Our source suggests chumming the water with what you are using. Be ready to sacrifice some of your bait to prep your area for the big catch. The flats are also holding some good sized Seatrout, Spotted that are going after live bait as well. The passes are fairly windy however the docks are loaded with Reds (Drum, Red), Snook, Common and more Mangroves. More large sized Mangrove and Sheepshead are beginning to move in so the bite is expected to pick up in the next few weeks. BAIT REPORT – There are lots of Mullet and Shrimp running this week but are pretty mixed up due to the wind. They are working best for inshore fish. Book your holiday Charter with Capt. James Fricke today. Don’t miss your chance before all his spots fill up! Local Island Charters 239-222-4029 www.localislandcharters.comNovember 13, 2015
Bonita Beach / North Naples
INSHORE – There is a lot of action happening closer to shore. Reds (Drum, Red) are all over the place chasing cut Ladyfish and live Shrimp. There have also been reports of Snook, Common and Seatrout, Spotted hitting jigs and topwater lures, however anglers should try to get out early as they are biting best in the morning. Pompano, Florida are also swimming. Pompano elite rigs and jigs are what is best for them. A few Mackerel, Spanish have also turned up but are fairly spotty right now. Our sources suggest fishing moving water, as there does not seem to be a preference between incoming or outgoing tide. As long as fishermen avoid the slack tide they will should not have any problems catching inshore. OFFSHORE – Now that Grouper, Red is closed in Federal water, the offshore fishing has significantly slowed down. There are still some fish biting though. Tripletail have been on fire around the buoys and they are hitting all the Shrimp they can get. Alternatively any artificial that looks similar to a Shrimp will be successful as well. BAIT REPORT – Most bait has moved out and slowed down at this time however Whitebait is still running and available for live baiters. Master Bait & Tackle 239-992-2553 masterbaitonline.comNovember 6, 2015
Bonita Beach / North Naples Fishing Report
INSHORE – There is some leftover hot summer weather happening causing some confused fish and unseasonal patterns. Snook, Common are still biting well along the beaches. Anglers are using artificials and even flies right from the shore. It’s tough to find somewhere that you can’t hook a Snook. There is also a good Tarpon bite, and the Mackerel, Spanish are moving in the Gulf. They are not hard to find, simply look for the birds and cast something shiney. Cobia are on the outside, but not quite offshore at 3-5 miles hiding on the wrecks, rock piles and ledges. Redfish (Drum, Red) have not stopped either and is a huge focus for inshore anglers. They are biting both live and artificials with a preference for live Shrimp on a jig. They are great sizes, mostly slots. Sheepshead are starting as well along with Pompano, Florida which with sizes up to 4 lbs for the Pompano! OFFSHORE – There was previously a solid King (Mackerel, King) bite however now it has moved out and the focus is on bottom fishing for Grouper, Gags. They can be found around 13-15 miles out. For the ambitious angler there are some Grouper, Black around 70-80 miles out although they are spotty. BAIT REPORT – There have been tons of Glass Minnows that anglers are using for inshore fishing. They are everywhere and not hard to find. Capt. Rob Modys SoulMate Charters 239-851-1242 soulmatecharters.comOctober 28, 2015
Bonita Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – Despite the choppy water, anglers can expect to see schools of Redfish in the early mornings while the water is low is great time to hit ‘em. Shrimp is working well for them. If they don’t seem to be too hungry off the hop, try feeding them a few shrimp to get them on it. We hope fishing will improve as the weather conditions calm and we see more steady water. Snook have been hiding around the docks but are coming out for Pinfish or Pilchards. Cut Ladyfish are proving to be a Snook favourite as the have been hitting these hard. With the weather changing and the temperature dropping, the early morning calm is the best time to get out there or alternatively right before the sun goes down at the end of the day.
BAIT REPORT – There aren’t any particular baits running real thick but if you can get on some Pilchards, Pinfish or Shrimp the fish are loving those right now.

Bonita Beach Fishing Report
Fishbuster Charters’ Captain Dave Hanson reported, “We had a lot of rain for a few days, which got in the way of a few fishing trips. I fished on Thursday morning, 10/1/15, with Scott and Karen Green and Mark and Linn Daberkow. We used live shrimp in lower Hickory Bay’s backwaters, and the group caught and released a 40-inch bonnethead shark, a 25-inch snook, and a brace of 3-pound stingray. They also caught a couple of keeper mangrove snapper to take home for a meal.
Angler Leo Castro with a 27 1/2-inch bull redfish, caught on shrimp and released on a recent inshore Fishbuster Charter.
Seas are pretty kicked up offshore this weekend, due to the hurricane heading up the coast or maybe out to sea. It’s exact course is still uncertain, but we will be getting some winds in the 25+ knot range, and I am not likely to fish. A scheduled offshore trip for this coming Monday may get curtailed also, though I am hoping not.”

Bonita Beach Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – Fishing is hot this week in the Bonita Beach and North Naples waters. As close as 12 – 15 miles offshore the Red Grouper are thick. Any Angler using live Spanish Sardines or Pinfish on Grouper should have a pretty good day. You don’t have to go 40 miles offshore this time of year to have a good day angling. If you send your chum down to get started, don’t leave it down any longer than 15 minutes. Any longer than that and you’re bound to attract the Sharks. Find the old wrecks and rock piles offshore and the waters will be packed with Lane Snapper. The days have been hot in the area, get a good start on the day and don’t forget your sunblock.
INSHORE – Back Bay and up in the Mangroves there are still a lot of beautiful Redfish. Over in Sanibel, same conditions as always. Fish the high tide. In the backwater, 3.5 ft to 4 ft of water on the old Oyster beds there are a lot of Gag Grouper hanging out. There are a lot of spots people don’t realize are there. Use your gps and cruise around until you find them. Once you find them you’ll be loading your boat up with Trout. If you catch a Ladyfish, chunk it up for the Redfish and Gag Grouper.
The reefs are pretty active this time of year. The water clarity isn’t that great right now, keep moving around until you find the right spot. The same spot from yesterday won’t be good today. Fishing Pine Island sound can be tricky. On one side of your boat you’ll catch Trout, the other side Redfish and Grouper, and off the back a big shark. There are all kinds of sharks, Bonnethead, Nurse, and Hammerheads are plentiful in Pine Island Sound. Be sure to bring your camera. In the Pine Island Sound use your popping corks and try to find the ledges. Early in the morning the Redfish will be going right across the ledges looking for the baitfish. Keep an eye out for where it changes for 1 – 2 ft to 4 ft. In the Sound moving water is key, the high and low tide don’t matter as long as you’re on an edge. There are lots of bait fish around, and a good variety to choose from. If you’re having trouble catching your own bait fish, the DOA Shrimp are getting the fish to bite too.
BAIT FISH – Head over to Lover’s Key and Estero Bay early in the morning, or late at night, and use your LED’s to bring up the baitfish. There are Spanish Sardines, Pinfish, tiny Shrimp Grunts, Pinfish, Shrimp, and Spanish Sardines, Greenbacks, and Mahara. Have a variety of baitfish to see what works best. The Grassy Flats in the Mangroves are thick with baitfish right now. Throw some chum into the water and cast your nets. If you know a good spot, you don’t have to chum, but will have no problem catching Grunts, Pinfish, Shrimp, and Spanish Sardines. Grunts are the number one bait for Redfish in this area so be sure to fill your live tanks up. Over by the Sanibel Pier is where all the Captains are filling up right now and it’s thick with Greenbacks and Mahara. The bigger the variety of baitfish the better chance of catching your trophy fish.

OFFSHORE – Some of the wrecks seem a little cleaned off right now. The fewer people that hit a wreck, the fewer fish that will be there. Don’t be afraid to pull out your old numbers and head 30-40 miles off to find some less fished structure. Look for the green/blue line and chum away.INSHORE – During the last of the incoming tides, about an hour before and two hours after, Redfish are up in the mangroves and on the flats. They’ll be looking for Greenbacks and some of the small Shrimp that around. Go ahead and use you D.O.As if you feel that’ll work for you. Chunked up Ladyfish is a good bait to throw as well. The oyster beds are also a good spot to find the Redfish right now. The docks are loaded up with Snook right now. The outside of the sandbars are great for finding Pompano on outgoing or incoming tide as are the passes. They won’t always be there right now. As soon as you do find them, they will be ON. Don’t be afraid to chum for them. They’re hitting just about anything you can throw at them. The tourists have left, but the fish have not. Go get ‘em.
