Bayou La Batre/Coden Fishing Report
INSHORE – Things are firing up and anglers are hitting the water! The Speckled Trout bite has been good as they work their way out of the rivers and creeks while the water warms up. They are swimming the lower bay and passes. The intracoastal waterway is still really good and down into big Lagoon while you work your way into Florida is holding fish on the grass beds. Flounder are picking up but they aren’t red hot yet. Redfish are doing well into this week. The upper bay through creek mouths, intracoastal and mouths of the rivers has been good. Off the beach the Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) are solid. Sheepshead have slowed down as temperatures increase and the spawn comes to an end. Kings (Mackerel, King) and Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) are plentiful off the beaches. Spanish are running the passes in the morning. Troll for them up and down the beach. The Kings are decent sizes and are expected to increase. The Cobia bite is early this year and is great in terms of size and numbers. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Reds (Drum, Red) are solid in Mobile to Fort. Morgan. They are holding up on structure. It’s still a bit early for Tripletail. With all the fronts the water is a bit messy in the bay but is still easily fishable. Water quality and conditions are decent. Rains will push the Trout out of the creeks. INSHORE – The intracoastal is holding a hot Sheepshead bite during the day. Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have moved in as well. Soft artificials worked slow in the deep holes is the best method to catch them. Vudu Shrimp has produced well. On the beach the Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) bite has been outstanding on Fishbites, Shrimp or Ghost Shrimp. Spanish can be caught on the troll along the beach. Spoons and dusters are best however most are small fish. Cobia have started to the East, they are up to 80 pounds. This is a great sign as water temperatures increase. Redfish (Drum, Red) are swimming Dixey Bar. They are mixed with Sheepshead and can be caught from boats. There are no signs of Trout around the gas rigs. OFFSHORE – The weather has been making the Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin) bite tough. You can find them when you are able to head out on a 1-2 day trip. Chunking has been most productive although a few are being caught trolling.
BAIT REPORT – Menhaden have begun to show up off the beach and around Terry Cove. Even Pinfish are showing up at the docks again. You can trap or chum for them.

INSHORE – Sheepshead, Drum (Drum, Black) and Reds (Drum, Red) are swimming the cut off. Drum are taking live Crabs. Hermit or Fiddler Crabs are best for Sheepshead. Sheepshead, Redfish and Ground Mullet (Kingfish, Gulf) can be caught in the East End. A few White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) are showing up. Dead Shrimp are best for the Whiting, White Trout and Ground Mullet. On the West End we are seeing Whiting (Kingfish, Southern), scattered Pompano (Pompano, Florida), White Trout and a few Reds. At Dixey Bar the Redfish are biting along with inside the Bayou. A few Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are beginning to show up at the cutoff and the East end taking Bull Minnows. INSHORE – The pier has been off and on depending on the weather. Redfish (Drum, Red) and Drum (Drum, Black) are trying to make their way in along with White and Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Sand & Seatrout, Spotted) when weather allows. Fish the rising tide for the best Redfish bite. Trout are more prominent at night around the lights. Shrimp are best for the Trout while Reds are preferring cut bait. INSHORE – For the time of year the bite is great. We are almost seeing the Spring weather fire up. Fishing off the beach is productive for Whiting (Kingfish, Southern), Pompano (Pompano, Florida), Redfish (Drum, Red) and a few Flounder (Flounder, Southern) that are beginning to show up. Ground Mullet and White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) have been caught but are a bit more scattered. Inshore boats are targeting Reds in the rivers and Herring Bay. Bayou La Batre/Coden Fishing Report
INSHORE – Water temperatures are warming up early this year. The day bite is producing bull Reds (Drum, Red) along the beach. They are schooled up near the surface eating Glass Minnows on calm days. Windier days make it more difficult to find the Minnows so keep an eye on the birds. Sheepshead are already heading out. Curly Tailed Jigs or Bucktail Jigs are working well to hook them from the boats. Mobile Bay is similar. The Sheepshead have slowed down around the rigs however Redfish have shown up. They are schooled up in the bay as well. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are hit or miss. If this pattern continues the King (Mackerel, King) and Cobia run will fire up early as well. Bayou La Batre/Coden Fishing Report
INSHORE – The Speck (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has been really good on the North side of Wolf bay. There has been some nice fish caught in Bon Secour River. Artificials on a 1 knot troll has been best. Most of the trolled fish have been in 8-20 ft of water. They have made the move out as the temperature warms up. Redfish (Drum, Red) and Sheepshead have been great as well. They are biting around Fort Morgan, Sand Island, the Lighthouse and all the Gas Rigs using live Shrimp or Fiddler Crabs. Bull Reds are biting on a lot of the Southern oyster bars. This is about 2 miles out of the pass. Live Mullet or artificial grubs will work to hook them. Sam’s Bait and Tackle is loaded with product for the Spring fishing season! OFFSHORE – Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin) and Wahoo are great offshore around the deeper rigs. The Salt Domes or the Horseshoe rigs to the Southwest are producing on the chunk or troll. High speed troll for the Wahoo, then stop to chunk for Tuna when you see topwater action.
BAIT REPORT – We are seeing a good bit of Finger Mullet return. A few Alewives are mixed in. In the next few weeks we will see a substantial bait increase.

INSHORE – A handful of Redfish (Drum, Red) are turning up this week with a few Sheepshead. The Reds are becoming more prominent than the Sheepshead. Mullet is doing well to hook the Redfish while the Sheepshead prefer live Shrimp. The changing tide along with a couple hours before and after is your best time to fish this week. INSHORE – Redfish (Drum, Red) are hot around the rigs but haven’t moved to the Dixie Bar yet. The bite is also on for Sheepshead. Everything will heat up through the end of March when the spawn begins. Fish the rigs with a slip cork about 6 ft down. Adjust the depth until you hook a fish. Always put one on the bottom on a lead as there will be some Reds on the bottom. As the day progresses, the Sheepshead will move up in the water column. The best bite is from 10am-2pm. INSHORE – This time of year we are seeing the occasional Redfish (Drum, Red) here and there. The numbers aren’t outstanding but they are there. Cut Mullet fishing on the bottom has been the best bet to hook them. The West end of the island is holding Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) around the pier. Cut Shrimp is their preference. Right around Jemison’s Bait and Tackle you can also find Sheepshead. Generally they take Fiddler Crabs or small Shrimp. You can usually find them holding up on structure. Bayou La Batre/Coden Fishing Report
INSHORE – If you are fishing the Perdido Pass around Alabama Point and Orange beach we are seeing Redfish (Drum, Red) on the bottom around the bridge. Get right down to the bottom using Shrimp during a moving tide. Sheepshead are there as well on the bottom. Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) and Black Snapper (Snapper, Gray) are in the deeper areas of Mobile Bay with structure such as reefs and concrete pilings. Trout are in 10-14 ft holes. They haven’t moved all the way up and with the good weather they are here. You can catch a good variety. Towards Fort Morgan the gas platforms are holding Sheepshead. There are huge sizes caught on the current. Search behind the poles as the fish avoid the current. The close platforms outside the gulf are covered in Sheepshead and Reds. Shrimp and Fiddler Crabs will hook them. Brown Shrimp is a good bait to bring with you. The pass around the jetties are holding Pompano (Pompano, Florida) that are taking Shrimp on a Pompano jig. OFFSHORE – The Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin) bite is consistent when you can get out around the rigs this week. Petronas out to the Drillships has been a productive area. A lot of anglers are chunking hook them using live bait. You can certainly catch a few on the troll as well. A few nice Wahoo are being caught on the way in around the shelf. INSHORE – The pier is doing well this week. White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) are slowing down. Sabikis or dead Shrimp and Squid will work well for them. Reds (Drum, Red) are consistent. Drum and Trout are biting at night. Sheepshead are beginning to show up. They are doing best during the day but the other fish have been better at night. OFFSHORE – The Wahoo bite is still North of the nipple and has been decent. The Tuna around the rigs has been fantastic. They have been about 1700ft or deeper around the drop off. Patronis Rig is holding smaller ones however the mountain area is holding bigger sizes.
BAIT REPORT – There were a bunch of Menhaden and Alewives swimming in the creek mouths and Terry Cove as well as the back side of Wolf Bay.

INSHORE – Anglers are still finding big Bull Reds (Drum, Red) at night on the pier. Blue Crabs or Cut Mullet are their preference. During the day the Sheepshead are coming in. Crabs are your best bet to reel them in. After dark, the White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) and Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) are being caught. Live Shrimp are doing well to hook the Specks. Sand Trout are being caught more on artificial or dead Shrimp. We hope to see this bite continue into the weekend. OFFSHORE – Weather has made us reschedule a lot of trips over the past few weeks. We have seen lots 6-8 ft seas. At this time of year we expect that the Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin & Tuna, Yellowfin) are biting in the deep water from 80-100 miles. Usually, when the weather is more accommodating they can be caught on the troll. On the bottom there is generally a good Grouper in the deep water. We hope to see conditions clear up soon. Capt. INSHORE – The cutoff is holding Redfish (Drum, Red) and a lot of White Trout (Seatrout, Sand). They are biting in the late afternoon and at night. Cedar Point Pier is holding Reds, and White Trout. The Trout are taking dead Shrimp and Squid. Reds are taking Mullet and Blue Crabs. The East end has reported Ground Mullet and Flounder (Flounder, Southern). From the West we are seeing Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) begin to bite. Dead Shrimp are best to hook them. Early in the morning and late evening is producing the best bite.
OFFSHORE – Things are typically a bit slow this time of year. When anglers are able to get out way offshore the Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin & Tuna, Blackfin) are scattered about. There may be a few leftover Kings (Mackerel, King) still out there. The biggest challenge is finding a break in the weather to go 70-100 miles out. INSHORE – Redfish (Drum, Red) and Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) are good in Mobile Bay around the rigs and marshes. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are showing up in good numbers around the same areas as well as the flats. There hasn’t been any Sheepshead caught yet but it’s their time of year. INSHORE – The Flounder (Flounder Southern) are beginning to come in during the day on Bull Minnows. INSHORE – A few Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) are still around but moving to deeper water to avoid the heat. White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) and Ground Mullet (Kingfish, Southern) are doing well in all the typical areas in the Bay. There are some Redfish (Drum, Red) mixed in. Around the Island the White Trout, Ground Mullet and Specks are swimming. Towards the rigs there are also some more Trout turning up. Specks and Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are taking live bait while White Trout and Ground Mullet prefer artificial. Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) have been running the beach. OFFSHORE – Fishing is still good. The heat has slowed things up a bit. A lot of Kings (Mackerel, King) and Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) have been caught recently. INSHORE – There are a decent amount of Flounder (Flounder, Southern) along with some slot Reds (Drum, Red) this week. They are loving live Bull Minnows or live Shrimp. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are decent, especially to the East. You can live bait and use soft plastics for the Trout. OFFSHORE – Tons of Kings (Mackerel, King) and Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) can be caught in the nearshore this week. You can troll live bait or drift fish with live and dead bait to hook them. Go out to 2 miles and keep moving out while fishing. Plenty of them are out around the nearshore rigs as well. The rip has pushed back inshore this week so there are plenty of Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin), Wahoo, Dolphin, Marlin (Billfish – Marlin, Blue & Billfish – Marlin, White) and Sails (Billfish – Sailfish). The bite at the deeper rigs has picked up as well. Green/yellow or Pink/white is doing well for trolling colors. Anything Dolphin colored has been successful as well.
BAIT REPORT – Plenty of Cigar Minnows and Threadfin Herring are swimming. Small Hardtails have shown up as well with Alewives also present. Go outside the pass and look for the schools. If you’re not seeing them on the surface, search the bottom with your graph because they are out there.

The cutoff is producing Reds (Drum, Red), Ground Mullet, a few Flounder (Flounder, Southern) and some puppy Drum. There are some White Trout in this area as well. On the East end Ground Mullet, White Trout, a few Reds and Flounder have been reported this week. To the West, Shark (Shark, Blacktip & Shark, Bonnethead), few White Trout, Ground Mullet and Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) have turned up. Redfish are swimming Dixie Bar. INSHORE – This week’s inshore fishing has been primarily geared towards the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). People are throwing live Shrimp under a popping cork early in the morning. Croakers are also working very well as Trout bait, again, early in the morning is key.
OFFSHORE – Our State Snapper (Snapper, Red) season is still open and there’s lots of fish inside the 9 miles mark on cut baits and shrimp. INSHORE – Anglers are doing best after dark. We are seeing Ground Mullet (Kingfish, Southern), White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) and Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). During the day smaller Ground Mullet, Croaker and White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) are hitting in the early morning. Shrimp and Squid have been the most productive baits. INSHORE – The Cobia have been a little closer to shore but are still mainly caught offshore. There have also been a lot of Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) in the passes and in the backwater. Finger Mullet and Shrimp are the bait of choice for catching Trout in the area. As of now, fishing in the morning seems to be yielding the most fish.
OFFSHORE – So far the fishing has been off to a great start with a whopping 146 pound Yellowfin (Tuna, Yellowfin). There has been a lot of big Tuna, Blackfish (Tripletails) in the area. There is a wide range of fish that are being caught out there such as Reds (Drum, Red), Snappers (Snapper, Red), and even Cobia.

INSHORE – Things are very slowly beginning to heat up. White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) and Ground Mullet (Kingfish, Southern) have shown up throughout the day. The Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) are hot at night this week. Dead Shrimp has worked well for all species however the Trout tend to like live Shrimp a little more. The fishing has been focused on inshore this week as things are a bit behind around the offshore island. We expect to see conditions heat up soon. INSHORE – There is not a whole lot of action in this area as of late. With the weather being so bad in the area boaters are staying inshore. Most anglers are heading to the West end to take advantage of the Whiting (Kingfish, Northern & Kingfish, Southern) bite. They are the hot fish this week and the main target for most people. The early morning and late afternoon bite has been the best time to fish them. The only thing they are hitting in this area is Shrimp. Live and alternatively a Vudu Shrimp by Egret will produce great results. There are some Reds (Drum, Red) mixed in as well. They are eating cut bait this week. INSHORE – There are still plenty of fish to hook from the inshore this week. Whiting (Kingfish, Northern & Kingfish, Southern) are hitting on the beach . They are loving live or frozen Shrimp this week. Sheepshead have been turning up off the cutoff on either Hermit Crabs or Fiddler Crabs. There have also been a few Reds (Drum, Red) here and there that are loving cut bait, especially Mullet.

INSHORE – The weather has not been favorable in this area as of late. Most anglers are sticking to the backwater due to the wind and rain. So far there have been no reports yet however we expect that once the front lies down by mid to late week there will still be a decent Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) bite on Shrimp. Reds (Drum, Red) are also expected to continue biting in great sizes as the front will fire them up.

INSHORE – The West end beach is the hottest spot so far this week. Anglers have been throwing dead Shrimp to catch Whiting (Kingfish, Northern & Kingfish, Southern) as well as some good sized Reds (Drum, Red) so far. Anglers do not have to travel far and can catch them right off the beach. The bite on the East Side has slowed down this week and the main focus is on the West.

INSHORE – The hottest (and so far only) fish in the area this week has been Whiting (Kingfish, Northern & Kingfish, Southern). They are catching them right up on the beaches so they don’t have to travel very far for them. Although the bite is hot the only thing they are hitting is dead Shrimp. They have been caught along the East side as well on the same bait. Whiting have begun to group up so when you catch one you can expect to stock up.
OFFSHORE – Last week saw Kings (Mackerel, King) near the closest rigs but at the time of this report, no one had made it out this week. Check some of the Pro Angler hotspots and get out there when the seas allow!
BAIT REPORT – There had been Mullet around last week. This week there hasn’t been many spotted.

Bayou La Batre/Coden Fishing Report
INSHORE – Not a whole lot has changed in terms of inshore fishing this week. The temperature has not dropped so there haven’t been a lot of fish altering their patterns yet. Whiting (Kingfish, Southern & Kingfish, Northern) are still being caught close to shore on Dead Shrimp. Anglers are also reeling in some good sizes of Pompano, Florida incidentally on the same bait. These are still turning up on the West beaches. On the East side there are more Whiting swimming and hitting the same bait. They are a great fish to target as they seem to be just about everywhere. Reds (Drum, Red) are also mixed in on this side however they are preferring cut Mullet. Anglers heading to the Cutoff can continue to find Sheepshead hitting Fiddler Crabs. Reds and Drum (Drum, Black) are spotty but can also turn up here. Seatrout, Spotted are still holding up in the East and West Fowl river going after Shrimp and Squid. There have been reports of even more Reds in this area as well.
OFFSHORE – The weather has definitely not be favorable in this area lately. Boaters have had a tough time getting out this week and there have not been a lot of reports from the offshore so far this week. The King (Mackerel, King) bite from last week is expected to continue around the closer rigs. Anglers heading out should bring live bait as this is still the King’s preference.
BAIT REPORT – There continues to be a solid Mullet run this week and anglers are stocking up for inshore bait.

Bayou La Batre/Coden Fishing Report
INSHORE – The West beaches have been the most populated this week. Whiting (Kingfish, Southern & Kingfish, Northern) and Pompano, Florida have been caught close to shore. Dead Shrimp has been their preference this week. The East end has been holding Whiting and Reds (Drum, Red). The Whiting here has been hitting dead Shrimp as well while the Reds are loving cut Mullet. The Cutoff area has produced some decent Sheepshead along with some more Reds and Drum (Drum, Black). The Sheeps are hitting Fiddler Crabs this week, or Hermit as an alternative. At the 60 Bar there are more Reds. The East and West Fowl River has been home to Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) and again, more Reds. The Specks are taking both Squid and Shrimp, similar to last week.
OFFSHORE – A bit farther out there have been reports of some Kings (Mackerel, King) hitting off the closer rigs. They are still preferring live bait this week. There have not yet been any reports of Jack, Amberjack Greater or bottom fish however that is not to say they aren’t swimming. Most anglers have been targeting Kings as they are the hottest bite in the offshore this week.
BAIT REPORT – There are some Mullet running in this area lately and are reported to be just about everywhere.

INSHORE – Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are both swimming the West beaches. They are loving live Shrimp this week. The East end is holding Whiting and Reds (Drum, Red). They are biting cut Mullet. The cutoff area has been catching Sheepshead, Reds and Drum (Drum, Black) using Shrimp as well. The Sheeps have been preferring Fiddler Crab or Hermit Crab. At the Dixie bar anglers are seeing more Reds and the East and West Fowl River is producing Reds and Seatrout, Spotted. Squid and Shrimp are working best for these fish.
OFFSHORE – Anglers can head out by the rigs and do some trolling to catch some decent Kings (Mackerel, King) this week. Live bait is what they are generally preferring however they don’t seem to be too picky. There is not a lot going on in the offshore as Amberjack (Jack, Amberjack Great), Gags (Grouper, Gag), and Triggerfish are all closed for the season. Bayou La Batre/Coden Fishing Report
INSHORE – There is something biting everywhere in this area. On the East end there are tons of Mullet running along with Reds (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Sand). Anglers are using Squid and Shrimp for Trout and Mullet or crab for Reds. At the cutoff anglers are seeing Sheepshead and more Reds, along with few Drum (Drum, Black). The West end beach has a lot of Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Pompano, Florida. They are loving dead Shrimp in this area. In Herring bay more Trout and Mullet are swimming followed by more Reds and Mullet in the East and West Fowl River. There are some Trout swimming here as well and are expected to pick up once the temperature drops.
OFFSHORE – Wind and rain has deterred many anglers from heading offshore this week. There are currently no offshore trips to report however if conditions lay down and fishermen decide to head to the deeper water they can always consult our Tips feature which provides additional suggestions and information that could help improve the catch. INSHORE – There have been a few species biting inshore despite the windy conditions. Trout (Seatrout, Sand) has continued to do well, especially with the cooler temperatures. There have also been reports of Ground Mullet running in various sizes although they are pretty mixed up at this time. Big Reds (Drum, Red) are also doing well. The inshore fish are loving dead Shrimp and Squid and seem to be hitting both without preference.
OFFSHORE – Wind and rain has deterred many anglers from heading offshore this week. There are currently no offshore trips to report however if conditions lay down and fishermen decide to head to the deeper water they can always consult our Tips feature which provides additional suggestions and information that could help improve the catch. INSHORE – Things are slowing down inshore at this time. Winter changes things dramatically. There was a 6 lb Flounder, Gulf caught this past weekend along with a few spotty Sheepshead. Most anglers are bank fishing due to the weather. Dead shrimp, Squid and Mullet are working well for Whiting (Kingfish, Gulf & Kingfish, Southern), various Sharks and Reds (Drum, Reds) off the beach. The river also has some Seatrout, Spotted that have been moving the past week.
OFFSHORE – Due to weather conditions being less than ideal it there are no reports from anglers heading offshore this past week. We expect to have some great reports when the weather lies down. If you decide to head out this weekend you can always check out our Tips feature which provides more information that could help to improve your catch.

Bayou La Batre / Coden Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – The offshore fishing is beginning to pick up. We’re especially seeing this with the Spanish Mackerel numbers. We’re finding Kings in 40-60ft of water. Bomber j dusters and Cigar Minnows are fantastic right now although the windy weather doesn’t look like it is going to break for the weekend.
INSHORE – Inshore fishing has been great. White and Speckled Trout as well as Ground Mullet are making their way in. There is an abundance of Redfish, both bull reds and slot sized. Gulf Flounder are still spotty. The beaches have been producing a good Whiting bite. Live and dead shrimp, gulp and voodoo bait have had the most action.
BAIT REPORT – The northern part of the bay has some good numbers of Shrimp.

INSHORE – The weather is windy, but it’s a good time to go night time fishing. There are a lot of Redfish, Flounder, White Trout, and Speckled Trout are still hanging around out front. There are also lots of Redfish in the marshes and flats.
OFFSHORE – King Mackerel is picking up. Head about 15 miles from Dauphin Island to find the King Mackerel. Drifting Cigar Minnows, silver Eels, or Clark Spoons has been working very well for King Mackerel once you find them.
BAIT REPORT – Live Shrimp and Bull Minnows are doing well in the marshes and on the flats. There are a lot of Pogies and Shrimp around the marshes. Bull Minnows and Mullet Minnows are also doing well in the Marshes.

INSHORE – There’s still been some Redfish and Mangrove Snapper in the intercostals along with a few Flounder. They’re being caught using live bait and all in all the fishing has been good. Speckled Trout are being caught along the beaches using unfair rip n slash lures. They’re a great Trout lure and should definitely be in your box along with other hard plastics like the mirrodine 18MR. Spanish Mackerel have also been along the beaches and are most likely feeding on the alewives.
OFFSHORE – White Marlin have been fishing very well out in the Nipple 131 area. There’s also been some smaller Bluefin Tuna in there as well. Island lures with a Ballyhoo behind have been the best lure for most. Blue/White and solid white have been working very well with the solid white being a hot seller for Sam’s Bait and Tackle.

OFFSHORE – Red Snapper is still out of season here. Cobia are being caught while fishing rigs in about 60 feet of water. You can use Squid as it can be trolled or bottom fished. Cigar Minnows are also working quite well. Vermillion Snapper and White Snapper are around the wrecks as well.
BAIT REPORT – Ground Mullet are in and hitting just about anything you put at them. When they’re in a hunger like that, it’s far easier to catch them with light tackle than to try and net them.

OFFSHORE – Live Croaker and White Trout are working well for Amberjack in the 60 mile range, towards the ridge. Find a rig and drop them some live bait. Amberjack will sometimes vary their depth around the rigs. While most people use the term bottom fishing, they could be suspended elsewhere in the water column. Your sonar can be your best friend in these circumstances to help you identify where the Amberjack could be sitting.

OFFSHORE – Amberjack season is still on the go here, but is slow right now. Live Baitfish such as Pinfish or bought Pogies have been a good bait to drop to them and heading into the next week or so should still be working well. Range-wise, you’ll still be looking at about a 50 mile run to hit the fish. Keep an eye on the birds and weedlines to chance into some Mahi Mahi as well.

OFFSHORE- Right now it’s Amberjack season and they’re having to head 50 miles offshore to get on them. Sea conditions have been quite unpredictable with all the pop up storms that have been rolling through in the afternoons. The Mahi has been slow so skip the trolling and bottom fish those Amberjack.

INSHORE – Our contacts over at Mark’s Live Bait shop have heard of some people catching lots of Speckled Trout. There was one gentleman who was absolutely slaying them and caught somewhere between 25-30 of them on one outing. Of course, they are being caught on Shrimp. Redfish are biting to a lesser degree, but that has been the general tone of fishing the last little while. Of course, the people who visit Mark’s Live Bait shop could just be very lucky on the Speckled Trout, so be prepared to catch whatever you set out to find.

Bayou La Batre / Coden Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – The Swindles over at Dauphin Island Offshore Fishing Inc. went offshore last weekend for the Out on the Deep Sea Rodeo and caught Yellowfin Tuna, Blackfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Grouper, and Vermilion Snapper. THere were also king Mackerel biting out there but they didn’t target them. The Tunas and Mahi were caught trolling live bait while the Grouper and Snapper were caught dropping cut pogies. It is worth noting that the Yellowfin they caught weren’t that big because the water has is really muddy. Green water extends way offshore and you have to go very far out to find any blue.
BAIT REPORT – Not a ton of pogies around right now. The bait fish of choice is the Pinfish, and they are around in thicker numbers.

OFFSHORE – Trolling and bottom fishing are both great right now but you’ll have to bring them in fast because the sharks are out there to steal your catches. Snapper, King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Mahi are biting well. Emily Swindle of Dauphin Island Offshore Fishing went out Tuna fishing last week but mainly Sharks are biting out there. She is Tuna fishing on the circle hooks. If you’re bottom fishing you’ll want to be using Pogies and cut Squid. Riplines and grasslines dictate where the Mahi are, which means they could be 40 miles out like they were last week, or closer, it all depends.
INSHORE – There are a lot of White Trout and Speckled Trout as well as some Redfish. Bull Minnows and Croaker are both great bait for this. There are also some Flounder out there. They love Bull Minnows and live Shrimp. You’ll find them around several spots by the island, but they are biting especially well on the east end by Fort Gains on the rocks. Someone even saw a 2.5 foot Redfish over there.

We called our friends over at Dauphin Island Offshore Fishing Inc. and Captain Steve Lindsay of Mobile Charters and they informed us that last weeks report still holds. While day to day fishing conditions can change, generally you are still going to be finding good fishing off the reefs for King mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, and Vermillion Snapper. The inshore fish are also still following there usual nesting and feeding patterns, so give last weeks report (below) another read before you head out.

Bayou La Batre / Coden Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – The Red Snapper season is closed in Alabama waters but it is still open in federal water so if you missed out, you still have a chance. Don’t forget to follow the regulations if you head out to federal water. If you don’t want to head out that far you can go bottom fishing at the reefs for King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel and Vermillion Snappers. These fish are biting well on Squid and Pogies right now so try dropping that.
INSHORE – The bite has been especially good when the temperature is a little higher. You’ll be fishing for Speckled Trout and Tripletail. You’ll find the trout in the gullies and ditches. They love live croakers. You can also try using popping corks. You’ll want to freeline, depending on the tide – if the tide is coming in or out hard you will freeline with a little weight or slip cork. The hard bottom, oyster beds and grass beds have also been particularly productive. Out by the State point there are some good Oyster reefs that are particularly productive. Steve Lindsay of Mobile Charters likes to fish around the bridges as well.
