Description
The Black Sea Bass has a sloped forehead that rises high in a hump shape, with a dorsal fin of notched spines spreading down the back. It has rounded pectoral fins and a large mouth. The Black Sea Bass can range in coloration from back to grey and occasionally tinges of brown or blue.
Habitat & Behaviour
Black Sea Bass are bottom dwellers and as such can be found on most bottoms around the world. They specifically like underwater structures such as rocks, piers, reefs, quays or other structures. The general rule of thumb is the larger the fish the further off shore and deeper the water.
Natural Prey
Black Sea Bass subsist on a diet of small fish, cephalopods and crustaceans.
Handling Tips
Can net easily due to their smaller size. Do not put your fingers in mouth, overall a smooth scaled fish with a sharp edge on its gill plate.
