Description
The Sheepshead can be identified by its black coloration often with bars of silver. The Sheephead also sports a mid-sized mouth capable of crushing shells.
Habitat & Behaviour
Sheephead can be found along coastal areas the provide structures or rocks that can hide crustaceans and mollusks, their favored food. They are often found in schools and are known to enter brackish water in search of food.
Natural Prey
The Sheephead subsists on a diet ranging from plant material to invertebrates and smaller vertebrates.
Handling Tips
Watch for sharp gill plates and spines on top. Beware of strong jaw.
