Galveston Fishing Report

INSHORE – Fishing has been tough the past few days with all of the recent wind however we are still catching decent bags of fish. Fishing the green water along the South shoreline produced well throughout the bayous and marsh drains. Live Shrimp under a cork has been the key to catching fish in roughly 2 feet of water for Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and big Reds (Drum, Red). A few Bull Reds are mixed in. Look for the Shad running to find the fish. The Flounder (Flounder, Southern) bite is improving into this week. They are holding up on the reefs in the bay and Capt. Scheck expects them to improve as the weather lies down. If you are fishing out of Rollover Pass anglers are hitting Trout, Drum (Drum, Black) and Reds during an incoming tide.

BAIT REPORT – Shad are running the shorelines in the bayous and marshes. Live Bait is also in the Peninsula.

Galveston Fishing Report

INSHORE – WOW!! What a week of fishing in East Galveston Bay. It is Red Hot! With good tides and light winds most of the week, fishing was great. We had real good numbers of nice trout in the 17-24 inch range and reds in the 22-26 inch range on bay reefs and shorelines. Water is in great shape and we have schools of small Shad showing up on the reefs and the South shoreline. We are still using live Shrimp under a popping cork about 4 feet deep. The Reds (Drum, Red) are thick along the shorelines around shell coming of the salt grass. Water temp is about 68-69 degrees and the fish like it. Now is the time to come on down and hop in the boat. Fishing should just get better and better in the weeks to come. Until next week, see you on the water.

Galveston Fishing Report

INSHORE – It’s been a productive week throughout Bolivar and East Galveston. We had good numbers of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), Reds (Drum, Red), and Flounder (Flounder, Southern). The South shoreline and marsh are holding nice Trout and Flounder despite the wind. Trout are running about 16-23 inches and Flounder have been up to 24 inches with a Red or two mixed in. Sizes are great overall. We are fishing live Shrimp about 2 feet deep under a popping cork close to the salt grass and cuts on mixed shell and mud. When the wind laid, the bay reefs (deep Reef, etc) were holding great numbers of bigger Trout in the 18-25 inch range using live Shrimp about 4 feet deep under a popping cork. Some Reds are also on the reefs along with some big Black Drum (Drum, Black). Water is in great shape and the fishing is heating up fast. The bank fishing bit is getting good around Rollover Pass for Reds and Black Drum. Look for fishing to get even better with good weather predicted this week, Until next week, see you on the water.

Galveston Fishing Report

INSHORE – Fishing for the Spring Breakers has been good. We are catching great numbers of Reds (Drum, Red) along the shorelines on shell and openings to marsh drains. The bait of choice has been live Shrimp under a popping cork about 2 feet deep. When we can get out on the bay reefs, we are finding good numbers of nice Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) from 15 to 20 inches along with some nice keeper Reds also using live Shrimp under a popping cork about 4 feet deep. The water temp is holding in the mid 60’s with the passing of the last cool front. With warmer weather forecasted, fishing should just get better. Tides are running a little low but should go to more normal levels when the SE winds return. Live bait is available along Bolivar Peninsula but, as always, calling first is a good idea. Until next week, see you on the water.

BAIT REPORT – Live bait is in the Peninsula

Galveston Fishing Report

INSHORE – Well, last week was the best five days of fishing we have had in a row due to all of the recent rains. Bay reefs were loaded with nice Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and we used live Croaker – just free-lining them. From Smith’s Point to French’s Reef was good fishing. We still have birds working but some fish were running just legal size. Soft plastics are going very good also. Just remember to work them slow because the bay still has fresh water on top. The same thing applies with the live baits also. If the wind stays down and stays out of the SSE, fishing will stay consistent. The areas along Bolivar Peninsula around Fort Travis is holding good numbers of Trout and Reds (Drum, Red) along the rocks. Live Shrimp has been hard to keep alive because of the freshwater run-offs. On Bolivar Peninsula, bait camps have been out of bait by 7 am every morning so call ahead before you make that run across. Water is still off-color on any tide movement. Just look for the tide lines of clear and dirty and fish those areas. Until next week, see you on the water.

Galveston Fishing Report

INSHORE – Summer is here and the Galveston Fishing Report is amazing. All of our fishing charters are producing great numbers of fish, and this is the time to get out on the water with us and catch a trophy. Jetty Fishing, Bays and Marshes, Deep Sea, Night Time Flounder (Flounder, Southern) jigging, and Nighttime Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) Fishing. We can do it and the fish are hungry. The past few days have been great fishing, and as summer continues. Galveston Fishing will only get better and better. With the amounts of rainfall we have had the past couple weeks, the fish have reacted to the freshwater runoff and are concentrated in areas of higher salinity. We are catching good numbers of Trophy Speckled Trout, Redfish (Drum, Red), Spanish Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish), White Trout (Seatrout, Sand), Sheepshead, and Sharks here in Galveston.

OFFSHORE – Red Snapper (Rockfish, Vermillion) Season has opened and will continue thru mid July. If you want to get out on a Galveston Deep Sea Fishing Charter – now is the time. We are catching some Giant Red Snapper along with other species including King Mackerel (Mackerel, King), Cobia, Amberjack (Jack, Amberjack Greater), and more.

Galveston Fishing Report

INSHORE – This week provided seven good days of fishing. We went fishing Wednesday through Sunday both mornings and afternoons and had good numbers of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), Reds (Drum, Red), and Flounder (Flounder, Gulf). Mornings were mostly calm and very productive with good numbers of fish coming from bay reefs. Lower Hannah’s and Deep Reef were hot! We fished live Shrimp under a popping cork about 3 feet deep. Some small fish were hitting but most were in the 2-3 lb. range. You just had to be patient and move around the reefs. On Saturday morning, we were on the reefs and had good boxes of fish and were in by 11:00 am. Mullet have started showing up on the reefs. We had a good trip on Saturday afternoon and caught good numbers of fish along the shoreline in the Fat Rat Pass area. Sunday morning proved too windy to fish the reefs and the water was turning off color but the south shoreline near Pepper Point was holding green water and good numbers of trout and Flounder. Flounder were running in the 18-21 inch range and most of the trout fell into the 2-3 lb. range. This next portion is less about fishing and more about safety. One day this week, we were drifting on the reefs along with a dozen or so other boats. A young man in a brand new boat (paper tags on the windshield) decided to run right through the middle of all of the boats at 40+ mph. He knocked one man off the front of his boat! While it’s true that most are very considerate when they operate their boats, there are always a few who are not and it’s those few that you have to look out for. The new week will be bringing with it (surprise) another front and potentially heavy rain and winds so you can’t really predict how the fishing is going to turn out. But, be patient. We should be nearing the end of the spring-time weather patterns and the weather will be more consistent and the fishing will be even better. Until next week, see you on the water.

Galveston Fishing Report

INSHORE – We had an awesome Spring Break on Galveston Bay from big Redfish (Drum, Red) and Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) to giant Jack Crevelle (Jack, Crevalle), we caught just about everything that swims. We found our Redfish over heavy structure along the ship channel and used live Shrimp free lined along the structure to fool the Reds. The Speckled Trout are holding on their spring time reefs and fell to live Shrimp under a popping cork while fishing from the boat and topwater lures while wade fishing. We ran into some huge schools of Jack Crevelle in the middle of the bay and landed fish up to 50 pounds. It looks like a great spring for fishing ahead of us call 832-385-2012 or visit www.galvestontrophycharters.com

Galveston Fishing Report

INSHORE – Galveston bay has lots of possibilities in March. Right now we are catching fish in several areas using many different styles of fishing. If targeting big Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) is the goal for the day we are spending our time wade fishing and throwing corky fat boys and Topwater lures like the skitter walk. For wade fishing I’m looking for places with shallow oyster reefs, grass beds, bayou drains, or mud flats. The south shoreline of both east and west bay have produced big Trout up to 8 pounds for us lately and will continue to hold fish all spring. The jetties are holding a lot of fish from Redfish (Drum, Red) to Sheepshead and Black Drum (Drum, Black) and the Trout will be showing up in greater numbers soon. I look for calm winds when heading to the jetties as it can get rough out there once the wind gets over 15 knots. We are using live Shrimp and a small weight to fish the jetties. Capt. Blake at Galveston Trophy Charters is currently booking spring and summer trips call 832-385-2012 or visit www.galvestontrophycharters.com
