Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report

INSHORE – You may not believe it but all the hot bites have been coming from the offshore this week. Snook are the most consistent inshore target, but don’t worry, they’re doing well into this week despite the hit or miss weather. Inlets, docks, beaches, seawalls and rivers are all holding decent fish. No matter where you go it seems you will run into some Snook. They are also not picky on bait. Our Captains and Bait Shops seem to be using a wide variety of setups and still finding plenty of success. Scattered Tarpon and Pompano can also be caught, mostly from the beach. They haven’t quite become consistent yet. We hope to see the inshore improve as the season progresses.

OFFSHORE – If you are able to make it offshore this week you will have no problem loading up on a good variety of fish that are turning up in decent sizes as well. There is no question that Dolphin are taking the prize for best fish so far this week. From Juno to Fort Lauderdale they are consistently turning up, the only difference being the depth they are found in. Once you hit your spot, troll a skirted Ballyhoo and get ready for a great bite! Anglers are also getting pumped about the upcoming full moon because you know what that means, Wahoo! They are already beginning to fire up so anglers are taking every opportunity to head to 100-300 feet of water around the Lake Worth to Deerfield areas. The occasional Sailfish and Tuna are also mixed in. When weather keeps anglers nearshore the focus has shifted to the bottom bite. Snapper and Cobia can be caught a bit closer in taking live bait. 90 feet has been a key depth to start in. There has been no shortage of options offshore this week.

INSHORE – Big Bluefish are on the beach from Blowing Rocks to the North, about 20 feet deep. They can be caught from the boats. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are in good numbers swimming the beach from Juno North. Big Bluefish are also in the river. Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) and Ladyfish are also being caught. Snook (Snook, Common) are holding up on the jetties. They aren’t really thick but they’re becoming more active.

OFFSHORE – There has been some Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) with schoolie Dolphin this week. Cobia and Kings (Mackerel, King) have been caught as well. Search for them to the North in 100-110 feet of water. The bottom bite has been a bit slower overall. Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) and Wahoo have been caught but they are not consistent. Sails are around 220 feet of water. Most anglers are starting at the edge. Dolphin are coming right up to the top.

BAIT REPORT – There hasn’t been much on bait as of late. Small schools of Mullet are getting ready to fire up in the backcountry.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report

INSHORE – They are finally here! Better Tarpon are beginning to show up this week and anglers have long awaited to target them with the early Spring conditions. We are seeing a good variety of techniques working well to hook them from Jupiter to Fort Lauderdale however we are mostly seeing live bait as the key to hooking them. Mullet, Shrimp, Bonito slabs and Kingfish bellies are all good choices this week. We expect that they will be moving into their typical feeding spots as long as the weather stays consistent.
Snook are a great follow up fish this week. They are steadily turning up throughout the inlets and don’t seem to be too picky in terms of what they will feed on. Otherwise, anglers are heading to the beach for scattered Pompano, Whiting or Bluefish.

OFFSHORE –
If you’re heading offshore this week you’re probably out there taking advantage of the hot Dolphin bite! From Jupiter to Fort Lauderdale we are seeing success with many anglers landing good numbers of Mahi. They are scattered throughout the offshore in typical depths however live bait on the troll has been the key to catching them. Blue/white or pink/white combinations are best in terms of artificials.
There are plenty of other fish to target in the deep water as well. We are seeing nice sized Tuna turning up along with Kingfish up to almost 40 pounds. Sails are also mixed in anywhere from 100-300 feet of water. The bottom bite is producing a variety of Snapper as well, especially out of the Jupiter and Juno areas. We hope to see everything continue with the nice weather into next week.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report

INSHORE – If you’re heading out to the surf or the inshore this week you’ll want to look towards Jupiter as the Miami area was blown out! The wind has kept many anglers waiting for weather windows to take advantage of the bite. This week, the focus has been on Snook. Your typical areas are holding the best fish however a full moon is what will fire them up. The night bite has been successful for those casting live bait, especially with the bait run beginning in Deerfield.
The day bite is considerably slower this week. When you can find an area with some shelter or a break in the wind you might be able to see some of the scattered Pompano, Bluefish and Sharks running the beach. If you are lucky enough to be able to get onto the reefs, they will be holding decent sized Cobia as well. Once things calm down we suspect that the fish will be feeding on the bait run as the Mullet make their way in and the Sardines head to the rock piles off the beach.

OFFSHORE – This week the weather is cool but the bite is hot, hot, hot! We are still getting a lot of Tuna including Yellowfin, a Bluefin or two, Blackfin and even some Skipjack. The numbers are consistently good from Jupiter to Fort. Lauderdale. Head to 120 feet of water for consistently good sizes of Blackfin from 5 to 8 pounds with bigger sizes mixed in.
There have been reef fish including Kings swimming both nearshore and offshore along the coast. Sails are mixed in with the Kings towards Jupiter however by the time we make our way to Fort Lauderdale they have become, still consistent, but scattered from in close to farther offshore. Normally they are slow at this time of year however they are still quite active into this week. From the bottom, the Snapper are providing the hotter bite. A variety of species have been caught using Sardines as well as Squid throughout the area. Amberjack are beginning to stack up on the deeper reefs as well.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report

INSHORE – Anglers have finally had some reports of Cobia close to the beach in Lake Worth. We are hoping the weather treats us to a few opportunities to get on them. Jetty fishermen are doing very well on Snook at night around bridges and dock lights, daytime jetty fishing is also good. If you are unsure of where to go, try Deerfield or Fort Lauderdale and bring some topwaters. Don’t be surprised if you hook a few Jacks and Snapper when using Shrimp. Fishing Headquarters out of Fort Lauderdale has reported bigger Tarpon in the area. The fish have been extremely difficult to get a bite out of. Down in Miami, Government Cut in the bay near the key has produced good amounts of Tarpon.

OFFSHORE – The bottom bite for Snapper has been slow early in the week on account of the wind. This is normally a good thing however because the fish are usually less pressured when you finally get a chance to target them. We caught up with Fishing Headquarters running out of Fort Lauderdale and they reported decent Amberjack fishing around the shipwrecks in 200 feet of water. You will also hook a pile of catch and release Grouper from the bottom. The offshore trolling bite was really hit or miss from Miami up to Jupiter. The better bite was to the South. Wahoo reports were fairly slim unless you were able to get close to the Bahamas. Look to see Dolphin fishing pick up off of West Palm Beach as new debris and weedlines should show up. A mix of Tuna and Bonito were readily caught out of Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Bonito were up to 5 pounds. Moving closer in, Kingfish have been biting in around 85 feet of water with the odd Sailfish mixed in. Sailfishing should resume following the week’s early wind events.

Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – Jacks and Snook have been on the bite this past week in Southeast Florida. The Jacks in particular have been blowing up Mullet, the Lake Worth/Boynton area is fishing especially well for them. For the Snook, just a Shrimp under a cork will get the job done in most situations this week. From Deerfield to Miami, you can also find a pretty decent Tarpon bite inshore so long as you are using baits that are very lively.

OFFSHORE – Sailfishing was pretty interesting over the past 10 days. Fort Lauderdale and Miami’s Sailfish bite was on prior to the weekend, then it seemed to shut down. A lot of the boats taking part in the Sailfish tournament elected to move north to Pompano beach where quite a few Sailfish ended up being released. Aside from good amounts of Kingfish in 90 to 150 feet of water, there were some very big Blackfin Tuna caught from north of Miami down around to the Keys. Miss Britt Charters out of Miami even boated a few 30 pounders.

Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – Snook and Jack Crevalle were the hot catches this week. They are being caught on DOA lures, Yo Zuri Minnow patterns and bait. Most of the fish have been caught throughout inlets and sea walls. There were also some Cobia up to 50 pounds on the beaches at Jupiter and Juno.
There has been some good Sheepshead opportunities throughout the Southeast but they do slow down as you hit warmer water. Good sized Tarpon have been showing up in Fort Lauderdale. We are expecting that bite to heat up over the next few weeks.

Gulf Stream fishing produced a few Swordfish in approximately 800 feet of water. There are also some Tilefish being caught in the same depth from Deerfield on down to Pompano beach. Boats out of Miami and Fort Lauderdale had a really good week catching everything from Sailfish on kites to Dusky Sharks in 500 feet of water.

Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – Bluefish have been peppering the beaches from Jupiter to Fort Lauderdale. Don’t be surprised if there is some Spanish Mackerel mixed in. It should be a good time to be throwing spoons or plugs into the surf.
Snook are slowly heating up in the lower stretches of Southeastern Florida. Most popular lures are Flair Hawks and SpoolTeks. A few of the beaches North of Deerfield are offering up some good Pompano action. If you are looking to get into Jacks or Barracuda they have been in particularly good numbers around the Pompano Beach area.


OFFSHORE – The offshore boats have been doing very well on King Mackerel this week. From Jupiter all the way down to Miami the Kingfish have been caught in no less than 85 ft and no deeper than 125 ft, with the exception of Fort Lauderdale anglers finding some big Kings in 150 ft of water. The gulf stream provided a good Wahoo bite this past week. From the waters off of Juno Beach getting heavier around Pompano Beach and slowing down a bit South of Hollywood anglers are finding Wahoo. Sailfish have been sporadic throughout. A lot of boats are spending their time live baiting or trolling in 150-250 ft. Boats trolling anywhere from 200-500 ft all throughout the region have been finding some weeds along with some Dolphin. Cobia, Lane Snapper, and Vermilion Snapper have been caught off of Jupiter and Juno in roughly 100 ft of water. Yellowtail Snapper have been slow from Lake Worth down to Boca Raton. Bottom fishing has been a bit slow in Southeast Florida. Except for a good Yellowtail bite in 60-90 ft of water out from Miami.

Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Tarpon are beginning to school up and spawn this week. They aren’t in the intracoastal but can be caught just 50-100 yards off the beach in reasonably shallow water. We are seeing Snook (Snook, Common) at night throughout the whole inshore. Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) are being caught in the intracoastal as well. OFFSHORE – We have been running trips to the ocean to drift fish at night for Mangroves, catch and release Red Grouper (Grouper, Red) and a few Muttons (Snapper, Mutton & Snapper, Gray) that are heating up. Muttons are also being caught throughout the day with a few Kings (Mackerel, King). Big Wahoo are biting right now too. 60lb fish haven’t been uncommon. Small Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) are up to 5 lbs. We are also taking advantage of the last of the Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) bite before they slow down. Shark fishing (Shark, Thresher & Shark, Shortfin Mako & Shark, Tiger & Shark, H.H. – Great) is beginning to heat up and provide a great February bite. Mahi (Dolphin) have been slow on our last few trips. The Gulf Stream bite still has plenty of action for Wahoo, Tuna and Kingfish on the troll. Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) are beginning to bite for the season. Grouper (Grouper, Snowy & Grouper, Warsaw) are also fishing well. Tilefish (Tilefish, Blueline) are biting well in 300-400 while the Goldens (Tilefish, Great Northern) can be found from 400-600 ft.

BAIT REPORT – Small Bonito and Mackerel are swimming the buoys outside and can be used as bait.

INSHORE – Anglers are catching plenty of Redfish (Drum, Red), Black Drum (Drum, Black) and Sheepshead this week. They are inside 17 St. Fort Lauderdale along the Seawalls. Break up the barnacle structures and fish Fiddler Crabs and Clams to find them. Early morning is fishing best. From the beach the fishing is slow. Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – Jack, Crevalle can be caught inshore. Tarpon are scattered and are difficult to catch. Snook (Snook, Common) are scarce. Barracuda (Barracuda, Great) have been a prominent fish inshore. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – The Red Grouper (Grouper, Red) are biting well for catch and release anglers. Muttons (Snapper, Mutton) are turning up off the bottom in the afternoons. Yellowtails (Snapper, Yellowtail) and Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) are better at night. Most of the fish are coming up at night but the bigger sizes are during the day. Kingfish have been caught on the morning trips. Bait can be caught off the channel marker buoys. Speedos and Bonito are showing up. Drag natural feathers or spoons to hook the Bonito (Bonito, Little Tunny). Anglers are also trolling for Mackerel (Mackerel, King) or small Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) on the reef this week. Wahoo have been caught as well. Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) can be caught occasionally on the troll but mostly on the kite. They are on the reef and the inside edge of the gulf stream along the color change. Good sized Mahi (Dolphin) have been caught with a White Marlin (Billfish – Marlin, White) which is rare. The Dolphin are huge sizes but you’ll have to put some time in. Wrecks are holding a few fish as Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) are beginning to show up. Black Grouper (Grouper, Black) are available for catch and release dropping live bait around the shipwrecks. They are great sizes. The occasional Cobia has been caught. Deep drop with chicken rigs for Vermillion Snapper (Snapper, Vermillion). Blueline Tilefish are mixed in there too.

BAIT REPORT – Bait can be caught off the channel marker buoys. Speedos and Bonito are showing up. Cast net for inshore Mullet as well.

Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – There is a lot of pressure on the fish this week as everyone is fishing. There are some pelagic fish around. King Mackerel (Mackerel, King) and small Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) have been caught on the reefs. Catch them on the troll. Wahoo are a bit slow and Mahi (Dolphin) are scarce. The occasional Barracuda (Barracuda, Great) have turned up on the reefs as well Bonito (Bonito, Little Tunny). Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) are scattered. They aren’t hot but they are out there. The wrecks are holding a few nice fish. The tail end of Shallow Water Grouper season is producing some nice fish (Grouper, Scamp & Grouper, Red & Grouper, Red & Grouper, Black). Deep water Grouper (Grouper, Warsaw & Grouper, Snowy) will stay in season. Big Red Snapper (Snapper, Red) are being caught this week as well. They are normally caught to the North, you just can’t keep them. Vermillion (Snapper, Vermillion) are consistent. Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) and Tilefish (Tilefish, Blueline) are in 300-400 ft. Golden (Tilefish, Golden) are in 600-700 ft.

INSHORE – Snook (Snook, Common) are now closed but they are still in the intracoastal and the inlet. Fish live Mullet or troll lures through the bridges. Shrimp on a jighead will work well around the docks at night. Tarpon are mixed in with them. To the North and South you can fish Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) from the beach. Locally you’ll see Barracuda (Barracuda, Great) and Jacks (Jack, Crevalle). White or Silver jigs and Minnow Plugs will hook them on a high tide. Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) are the main ticket in 120-180 ft of water in ‘Sailfish Alley’. Kite fishing is the best way to hook them however trolling is also productive. Small Dolphin are biting, a little over keeper size. Search for them outside the reef in 200-400 ft of water on the troll. Natural feathers are working well along with small, rigged Ballyhoo. Small Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) are taking the same setups. They are 2-6 lbs. Big Wahoo have also been caught. They are few and far between but they are out there with the full moon. The reef is holding good sized Kingfish (Mackerel, King). You can catch them drifting a whole Ballyhoo or Sardine mid depth or right on the surface. Drifting live Pilchards or Mullet are also productive. On the troll the Planer baits are more successful. The Shipwrecks are holding a few Grouper (Grouper, Gag) but they are tailing off. A few Cobia have been caught with small to medium Amberjack (Jack, Amberjack Greater). They are swimming in 200 ft. Search structure to find them. The Drift boat is catching Muttons (Snapper, Mutton) during the day and Mangroves and Yellowtail (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail) at night. Drifting for the Muttons is best while anchoring and chumming for the others is more productive. Swordfish (Billfish – Swordfish) are showing up farther offshore. They are biting during the day off the bottom. Traditionally Winter is a great time to target them.

BAIT REPORT – Pilchards are swimming the inlet early in the morning. You can catch them on a Sabiki rig. HIllsborough Inlet has Pilchards that school up around the jetty so you can cast net for them early in the morning. Once the sun comes up they move deeper as the birds chase them. You can jig them up at that point.

INSHORE – Tarpon are a bit slow into this week. They will pick back up in the Spring. Big Snook (Snook, Common) have been found throughout the inlets and passes. Take advantage before the close! The night bite using live or dead Shrimp has been a bit more productive than during the day. Vudu Swimming Mullet are better in the day. Around the bridges or docks with lights are hot areas to look. OFFSHORE – The drift boats are doing well during the day on Mangroves and Muttons (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Mutton). The Mangroves are good sizes. Hog Snapper (Hogfish) minimum size limit just increased so keep that in mind. The afternoon bite is more productive. You can search for Kings (Mackerel, King) in the morning. Drift for them in the mornings and troll later on. Most of them are snake Kings to 5 lbs. Not many are over 12 lbs. Yellowtail (Snapper, Yellowtail) will provide a good night bite. Gags (Grouper, Gag) are rare but the Reds and Blacks (Grouper, Red & Grouper, Black) are doing well. Goliaths (Grouper, Goliath) are all over structure, docks and mouths of the inlets. They can be caught on huge baits on shark rods. Dolphin are small this time of year, mostly schoolies. Some are up to 20 lbs. They are swimming in 100-200 ft of water just outside the reefs. Wahoo were hot around the Super moon. The quantity and quality of fish was fantastic. Anglers are still picking away at them on the troll. Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) are mostly small to 6 lbs. Drag natural feathers or rip jigs to get them. Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) is the main attraction. December is one of the best months to catch them. The rougher the water, the better they are. As the temperature drops the bite will improve. Go after them using kites. Search 120ft to 180ft in ‘Sailfish Alley’. Fish the blue/green water change from the blue side.

OFFSHORE – Nearshore Yellowtail and Muttons (Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Mutton) are biting this week. They can be found in between 40 and 100 ft. They are taking Sardines and Ballyhoo for the most part. Anything fresh works well. Bonito (Bonito, Little Tunny) and King (Mackerel, King) can also be caught. Wahoo are are around this week from 100-300 ft. Pull Bonito or troll using live bait. Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) are doing really well pulling live baits slowly or drift live bait on the kite. They are around 140-150 ft but there has been some good numbers closer too.

Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – The fishing has been picking up. Tarpon have been hooked but are famous for shaking the hook.There is a bit of a Snook (Snook, Common) bite around. We don’t have much until they are back to catch and release. Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) and Barracuda (Barracuda, Great) are always biting.

OFFSHORE – East winds are pushing the Mahi (Dolphin) in close. They are in 100-350 ft of water. You don’t have to go far for them. Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) are doing well too. The sizes are decent, over 30 lbs. Troll the or live bait to hook them on the reef. You can troll popper lures, chuggers and natural feathers or dusters. The best bite is on the deeper planers. One long and one short about 20-30 ft under the surface are getting the most action. A few Sails (Billfish -Sailfish) have been caught on the troll. Once a cold front hits they will light up. The drift boat is doing great for Snapper at night. Yellowtail (Snapper, Yellowtail) are great sizes. Squid, Sardine, Ballyhoo and Silversides are working well chunked. A few Cobia have been caught in the day drifting or at night anchored. The day trips are also hooking a few Kings (Mackerel, King) that are keepers. They have been caught on the troll. We are also catching them on the drift boat while live baiting or throwing dead baits. Fish them mid depth with a lighter sinker. Wahoo will love the tide change coming from the Supermoon this weekend!

INSHORE – It’s been a bit too rough to go just offshore. OFFSHORE – There has been pretty gnarly weather as of late. Anglers are still fishing but it hasn’t been easy to get out. The conditions are great for Sails and Mahi (Dolphin). The Mahi are blown into the reef at 60-80 ft of water with the East wind. They are biting well. Kite fishing for Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) is also productive. Kings (Mackerel, King) are being caught on the troll with small Blackfin Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) and Bonito (Bonito, Little Tunny). Mahi have been caught from the drift boat as well. The night Snapper trip is productive for Yellowtail, Mangrove and Mutton (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Mutton). Groupers (Grouper, Gag) are around but small for the most part.

INSHORE – A few Tarpon are swimming here and there. They are picky and prefer live Mullet with a snipped tail. A few Snook (Snook, Common) are around as well. They are also picky this time of year. OFFSHORE – Anglers are heading out pretty well every day at this point. The Kings are hot this week both morning and afternoon. They are from 4-25 lbs so far. The Kings (Mackerel, King) are being caught on both our drift and sportfishing boats. Small Blackfin Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) and Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) have also turned up. The strong winds are great for Kite Fishing the sails. Mahi (Dolphin) have also been caught in close at 300 ft of water. They are sporadic from day to day. Anglers aren’t heading more than 2-3 miles offshore as the good action is in close. The water temperature is beginning to come down as the passing storm cooled everything off.

OFFSHORE – Hurricane Matthew has made it’s way to the area and most anglers are staying safely off the water as of now. Following the storm we expect a great bite 4-5 days after. We should see Mahi (Dolphin) from 4-10 miles offshore under the well-formed weedlines and debris stacked up. The night trips generally do well for Yellowtail (Snapper, Yellowtail) on the bottom. Anglers will usually get limits. Mangrove Snapper will be mixed in with the occasional Mutton (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Mutton). Catch them on the anchor or drift. The King Tide will bring super high and low tides and Wahoo love that. There should be perfect conditions from the 12-16th. Bonito (Bonito, Little Tunny), Kingfish (Mackerel, King) and Barracuda (Barracuda, Great) are mixed in on the reefs.

INSHORE – Snook are biting this week. Tarpon have slowed down a bit but are still biting. They are mixed with the Snook (Snook, Common). The fish inshore are chasing Mullet. The bite is better at night but decent during the day. Lots of Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) and Barracuda (Barracuda, Great) are in the intracoastal as well. OFFSHORE – The reefs are good for Kings (Mackerel, King) in 40-60 ft. There are Bonito (Bonito, Little Tunny), Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) and even some Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) are mixed in. Everything is moving in close to chase the Mullet. Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) can be caught on the troll or live baiting. It is the best time of year to catch Sails. Farther offshore anglers are deep dropping for Grouper (Grouper, Snowy) and Tilefish (Tilefish, Blueline & Tilefish, Great Northern). Blueline are in 400 while the Goldens (Great Northern) are biting in 600 ft. They are the hotter fish. Dolphin have been scattered so you have to look hard and won’t always find them.

OFFSHORE – There has been some great fishing lately. The Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) are lighting up. They are from 100-180 ft of water. Kite fishing has been the best way to catch them although trolling works well too. They are the hot ticket and will bite into the Winter. The Dolphin trolling has been hit or miss. You could spend all day out for just a school of fish. If you’re gonna try for the Dolphin, you really have to put in the time from 6-10 miles. Sails are biting on the reef with Wahoo as well. Small Blackfin Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) are hitting with Kingfish (Mackerel, King) and good amounts of Bonito (Bonito, Little Tunny) that are spread out over the reef. Deep dropping has been productive in 500-600 ft of water for Tilefish (Tilefish, Great Northern), Barrelfish, Oilfish, and Scorpion Grouper (Grouper, Scorpion).

INSHORE – The Tarpon fishing has started to light up. Snook (Snook, Common) have just opened and a few are biting. OFFSHORE – Trips are limited however we have been heading out and the storm doesn’t seem to have hurt the fishing too much. The wrecks are holding Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater), big Barracuda (Barracuda, Great) and small Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail) and Tilefish (Tilefish, Blueline)that can be caught on chicken rigs. Offshore the Dolphin are scattered. They are small as well. You’ll have to put some time in to find the schools. They are out at least 4 miles. There were a few Marlin (Billfish – Marlin, Blue) caught earlier in the week. The best action has been on the reef.

INSHORE – It’s been very slow the past few days in this area. There are Snook (Snook, Common) and Tarpon inshore. INSHORE – There have been quite a few Barracuda (Barracuda, Great) lately. There are some Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) turning up as well. OFFSHORE – The reef has had the best action lately. A lot of Bonito (Bonito, Little Tunny), Kingfish (Mackerel, King), small Blackfin Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) and a few big Wahoo have turned up. The Wahoo are up to 60 lbs. There is an oddball chance of catching a Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) as well. There is little to no wind for kites so most anglers are trolling. Deep dropping for Golden Tilefish (Tilefish, Great Northern) and Snapper (Snapper, Vermillion) off the bottom. Chunks of Squid on a chicken rig in 200-600 ft of water has been most productive for Vermillion, while the Tilefish are from 400-600. They are over 40 lbs. The Dolphin have been hit and miss so anglers are sticking to the reefs.

Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – Unfortunately we are seeing an extremely slow inshore bite due to the hot water temperature. The best bite has been Snapper (Snapper, Mutton & Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Gray) on the second reef. They are out father to hold up in the cooler water. Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – Tarpon have been fishing well. There have also been Snook (Snook, Common) caught on lures. Big Barracudas are on the reefs and anglers are catching them by trolling dead bait.

OFFSHORE – The Bonito (Bonito, Little Tunny) are biting strong on the reefs. We are seeing nice Kingfish (Mackerel, King) averaging between 12 – 20 lbs. Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) are a bit small but they are up to 30 lbs. The Wahoo are just now starting to show up. There has been some Dolphin caught as well. There will still be a run that will make it’s way through. They are around 40 lbs and out at 800 ft. Swordfishing (Billfish – Swordfish) has been consistent. They are around 120 lbs. Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) are beginning to heat up. Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Mutton & Snapper, Yellowtail) are good at night. They are anywhere from 25 to 80 ft on a moving tide. The weather has been perfect to heat up the coming Dolphin and Wahoo season.

Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – Not a lot has changed from last week. There are some Tarpon biting. The evening bite on the inside around the bridges and intracoastal waterway is the most productive. A few catch and release Snook (Snook, Common) are around. Jack, Crevalle and Barracuda (Barracuda, Great) have been caught as well.

OFFSHORE – The fishing has been great in the afternoons. We are seeing a slow bite in the morning. Bonito (Bonito, Little Tunny) have been caught. A bit farther out the Small Blackfins (Tuna, Blackfin) are varied in size. Kingfish (Mackerel, King) are mixed in. The Wahoo are a bit scattered but you may find them in the same area. You will have to put some time in to find the Mahi (Dolphin) as they are sporadic. If you find them they are schooled but it can make for a long day. You can search the weedlines between 4-6 miles but most anglers are heading farther out to 6-10 miles. Pulling artificial lures, Ballyhoo and Stripped Bait have all been productive. Red/White and Blue/White Islanders have been a great alternative. A few big Swordfish (Billfish – Swordfish) have been caught on the day trip about 15 miles offshore. The current is pushing hard to the North so start to the South. Drop your bait to the bottom and wait for the bite! The sizes are great off the bottom during the day while at night you can fish the surface. They are better than average this week!

BAIT REPORT – A lot of Bontio are around that can be use as stripped bait. Pilchards have been hanging around the piers.

INSHORE – Tarpon are beginning to heat up this week. Live Shrimp or Pilchards are best. Kingfish (Kingfish, Southern) heads will work too. Look around the bridges and jetties. You may find Snook (Snook, Common) on the same bait and area. You can fish right until dark. You can also search the intracoastal waterway to find them. This should stay consistent through the long weekend.

OFFSHORE – Not a lot has changed from last week. Lots of Bonito (Bonita, Little Tunny) are running the reefs. Anglers can troll to find them. They put up a great fight. Everything else is hanging out around them. King (Mackerel, King) and Blackfin Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) have been caught around them. Wahoo, Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) and Barracuda (Barracuda, Great) have also been feeding on them. If you find them you are in the right area. This is about 100 ft of water. Drag lures to cover a lot of territory. The Mahi (Dolphin) are scattered and you may have to go from 6-15 miles out. They are in schools so if you find one you will find a few, or you may go some time without seeing any. Look for weedlines, birds or debris. INSHORE – On the reef the Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Mutton) bite gets better as the summer progresses. Snook (Snook, Common) are showing up around the beaches, inlets on the piers and jetties. We expect this bite to continue.

OFFSHORE – There is a decent bite coming in from offshore this week. From 10-15 miles off we are seeing some Mahi (Dolphin). From 200-300 the Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) are hitting right around sunset.

BAIT REPORT – Anglers can chum for Pilchards on the reef at night. This has been the best bet to stock up on bait.

Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – Tarpon and Snook (Snook, Common) are doing well this week but are best to be caught just as it gets dark during sunset. Little Tunny (Bonito, Little Tunny) are 10-15 lbs. and can also be caught. Check out the in app GPS hotpots for more places to fish.

OFFSHORE – Right now, the best action is trolling the reef with artificial lures, rigged baits, ballyhoos and spoons are working well on the planers. We are catching Kings (Mackerel, King), Bonita (Bonito, Little Tunny) and a lot of small Blackfins (Tuna, Blackfin) with an occasional large one. Some Wahoo are also being caught but they are a little allusive. Lots of Cobia are being caught near the shipwrecks along with Amberjacks (Jack, Amberjack Greater). These fish are being caught using live blue runners on the bottom. Black Groupers (Grouper, Black) are in 200-400 ft. around shipwrecks or near the reefs. Snappers are biting at night and not so much during the day, with a few Muttons (Snapper, Mutton) in the afternoon. At night, anglers are drifting for Yellowtails (Snapper, Yellowtail) as they are very prominent in the area.

BAIT REPORT – There has been some threadfins that are a little more south of Miami. Be sure to take dad for a fishing trip. It makes for an excellent Father’s Day gift.

OFFSHORE – The best action is around the shipwrecks this week. Almaco and Amber Jacks (Jack, Almaco & Jack, Amberjack Greater) are biting along with various Grouper (Grouper, Black & Grouper, Snowy & Grouper, Warsaw, Gags) and Cobia. There are from 200-400 ft of water. Anglers are drifting at night for Yellowtail, Mangrove and Mutton Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Mutton).

Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – The best catches have been drift fishing. Lots of Snapper (Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Mutton). Grouper (Grouper, Gag), Porgy and Grunts (Grunt, White) are also showing up on these trips. Drift fishing is $40 per person for a half day charter. Book your trip now!

OFFSHORE – Mahi (Dolphin) are biting but are hit and miss. You will have to cover a lot of territory to find them but they are out there. 3-6 miles offshore are the key places to fish. Schoolie sizes are the most common with some bigger ones mixed in. The reefs at 100 ft of water are holding small to medium sized Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin). Occasionally a bigger size up to 30 lbs has shown up. Wrecks are holding AJs (Jack, Amberjack Greater), and some big Grouper (Grouper, Black & Grouper, Gag) and Cobia.

INSHORE – Tarpon and Snook (Snook, Common) are swimming the inlets and beaches this week. Most anglers are focusing on the hot offshore bite. If you cannot get out that far you will not have a problem hooking various sizes of Tarpon and Snook. We expect the bite to continue into the weekend.

OFFSHORE – The main bite has been throughout the offshore this week. Things are beginning to heat up! Dolphin are from 600-800 and most are around 20 lbs. Some are even bigger. Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) are scattered from the swordfish grounds to the reef. The location seems to change from day to day. There are still some Cobia swimming, so if you are targeting them you can expect to hook a few.

INSHORE – A few Tarpon are still being caught this week. We are also seeing Pompano (Pompano, Florida) turn up from the area as well. The early morning bite has been most productive. Clams are the best bait to catch them so far.

INSHORE – There has been plenty of Mullet (Mullet, Silver) on their run North. Tarpon are in the inlet and up into the rivers. The Snook (Snook, Common) are beginning to move onto the beach and eat the hatching Pilchards. During the Southeast wind you will find some Pompano (Pompano, Florida). We are also seeing Snappers (Snapper, Gray) on the inshore reefs. The sizes are fair and the bite is consistent.

OFFSHORE – Plenty of Blackfins (Tuna, Blackfin) have been around for the morning bite. They are small but we expect them to get better. We are also seeing some great Mahi (Dolphin) biting as well.

Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is quite a bit of Pompano (Pompano, Florida) on the beach being caught on Clams. The morning bite has been the most productive. There were also a few Tarpon caught between the cut and the inlet. Live Mullet or live Crab has been the best bait to throw this week.

OFFSHORE – Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) have been hot near Haulover Inlet this week. Thread Herring and Goggle Eyes are the best to hook them, especially in the morning. Kings (Mackerel, King) are moving in towards the beach. They are holding up on the third reef. Anglers are live lining bait to hook them. The Blackfins (Tuna, Blackfin) are chewing as well. Anglers are throwing glass minnows or vertical jigs to bring them in. They have been found around 250-350 ft. There are quite a few Sharks (Shark, H.H. Smooth & Shark, Thresher).

BAIT REPORT – There are some small Mullet swimming this week. They are not easy to get but if you can stock up on a few you will do well.

INSHORE – Snook (Snook, Common) and Tarpon are moving out of the shallows and making their way to the beaches this week. This is a great sign of a Spring bite. Anglers can cut them off at the bridges and inlets with flare hawks or rapalas. You can’t beat live Pilchards though, this has been the key to hooking them.

OFFSHORE – Big Dolphin have been scattered all over this week. There has been a decent push of them. Blackfins (Tuna, Blackfin) are out deeper from 450-600 but they are hit and miss from day to day. Wahoo has been steady to the North. Anglers aren’t having any trouble hooking them.

OFFSHORE – Things have been a bit slow throughout the inshore since the bait has not moved in yet. We are seeing quite a bit of action from the closer reefs however. INSHORE – There are a few Tarpon around this week. They are hit and miss but expected to pick up within the next month. A couple of Snook, Common are swimming as well. The main bite is the Barracuda, Great and Jack, Crevalle. Lots of anglers are using dead bait as the bait numbers in the area haven’t been spectacular. If you can get them, Pilchards are also working very well.

OFFSHORE – Things have been hit and miss offshore this week. Mahi (Dolphin) have been around but they are not biting every day. Wahoo are around but you have to cover some ground to find them. They are great sizes though. The shipwrecks are holding some great Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater). We are seeing some big Hammerheads (Shark, H.H. – Great) from 200 to 400 ft of water. The drift boats are doing exceptional on Snapper (Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Lane & Snapper, Mutton), especially on the night bite.

OFFSHORE – Things have been heating up in the offshore this week and you don’t have to head far. There are some scattered, schoolie sized Mahi (Dolphin) that we expect to move closer in soon with a good East Wind. You will have to put your time in to find a few. There is a Tuna, Blackfin bite for anglers trolling natural feathers. The Shipwrecks are holding Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) and a few Cobia. Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – Things have not been hot around the piers this week. There is some freshwater mix throughout the everglades due to drainage so this has caused a slow bite. There have been reports of Mackerel, Spanish and Pompano, Florida slowly starting to show up around Anglins Pier but they are very sporadic. The morning bite has produced the best fish using live bait for both. The Pompano are loving Shrimp and Sand Fleas while the Mackerel aren’t picky and seem to hit about any live bait. The sizes are not huge yet but we expect to see some bigger fish once the water clears up.

OFFSHORE – The Sharks (Shark, H.H – Smooth) have been on and off in the area as of late. There are some Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) hitting along with a few Dolphin still hanging around. The full moon has not helped. Live bait has been hooking some nice Kings (Mackerel, King) up to 40 lbs. Anglers are using Bonito to hook them. In roughly 400 ft there are some Snapper, Red but anglers need to release them. The wrecks are holding some Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) and Sea Bass, Black as well.

OFFSHORE – There is a spotty Dolphin bite so far this week. Some bigger Kings (Mackerel, King) are turning up 20 lb and more with smaller sizes mixed in. Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) are on the reef this week. Anglers are kite fishing Goggle Eyes or trolling Bonito by the rigs. Sharks should start showing up any day. Bottom fishing has been good. Anglers are bringing in lots of Snapper (Snapper, Vermillion). Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) on the wrecks, Tilefish, Sand have been caught in 650 ft. Blackbelly Rose Fish were hooked a little farther out. This bite is expected to continue into the weekend as long as the weather is accommodating.

Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is quite a bit of both Drum (Drum, Black) and Reds (Drum, Red) biting towards the North this week. We are also seeing a lot of Tarpon biting from Haulover South. There is not a whole lot of action happening right in the Fort Lauderdale inlet so most anglers are going either North or South. There may still be some Bluefish and Snapper, Gray showing up on the surf however the catch has been spotty so far. These are not the target for most anglers at this point.

OFFSHORE – There are a lot of anglers hitting the water to pre fish for a Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) tournament this weekend. OFFSHORE – Things have been slow in this area due to the unfavorable weather lately however there are still some nice Snapper, Yellowtail starting in the nearshore past the buoys. The water has been rough so not many anglers have ventured out. Anything of huge size is going to start in 600 ft of water however it’s difficult to get there so far this week. We hope to see things settle down for the weekend so we can have some great reports of Kings (Mackerel, King), Sails (Billfish, Sailfish) and Dolphin.

Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – There have not been a lot of reports from the inshore lately. There are typically Snook, Common on Tarpon in the canals but due to the weather not a lot of people have been able to get out. There have been no reports of Snapper, Yellowtail so far this week.

OFFSHORE – Kings (Mackerel, King) are still being caught throughout the offshore for anglers who can brave the weather. The Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) bite has slowed down quite a bit and there have been no reports of Mahi (Dolphin) so far. Everything offshore is loving live Ballyhoo to match the run this week.

BAIT REPORT – There still Mullet in the pockets of the canal as well as Ballyhoo throughout the offshore.

INSHORE – There are quite a few fish throughout the inshore this week. Snook, Common are mixed in with Tarpon, Bass (Bass, Striped), Snapper, Yellowtail and Mackerel, Spanish. The cold fronts have changed the fish patterns however seems to have increased the bite. There is lots of action for anyone staying inshore this week.

OFFSHORE – Sails (Billfish – Sailfish), Kings (Mackerel, King) and Mahi (Dolphin) are all swimming anywhere from 100-500 ft this week. The bite has been consistently great so far and is expected to continue. A good bet is to troll Ballyhoo.

INSHORE – There are intermittent waves of Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) along the beaches. Artificial baits are working well for them this week in almost anything soft plastic. The Tarpon are beginning to show up inside all the inlets and the bridges close to the inlets as the Shrimp begin to move through. It comes as no surprise they are loving live or dead Shrimp as well as a Vudu or DOA as an alternative. The weather hasn’t been the greatest so a lot of anglers aren’t making it out so far this week.

OFFSHORE – Things have been fairly steady out here. The Sail (Billfish – Sailfish) bite has been great from 200-500 ft. The Mahi (Dolphin) have not really slowed down this year which is great for offshore anglers. Wahoo and Kings (Mackerel, King) have a great bite but are spotty in terms of location. They move from day to day so when you can find them, they’re good. Spoons seem to be the best for them so far this week.

BAIT REPORT – Ballyhoo are running on the first reef and are quite thick. Down near Miami there is a lot of big Threadfin Herring. Shrimp should be moving in soon and anglers are excited to stock up on bait and have the fish chase them. Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Snook, Common and Tarpon bite are consistent this week, especially around the drawbridges. The night bite on bucktail jigs or live baits is the most productive. The bridges of the intracoastal have also been hitting well for anglers using live Mullet or Shrimp. The outgoing tide has produced a nicer catch overall.

OFFSHORE – The Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) bite has done well so far this week. They are mixed in with some Mahi (Dolphin) which has been steady as well. This has been in roughly 100-200 ft of water so far. As usual, Ballyhoo is a great option on the troll. There have been reports of a couple of Wahoo a bit farther out along with a solid Grouper, Gag bite when you can find them on the bottom. They may be a bit more spotty however they are coming up in great sizes.

INSHORE – Bluefish are on fire throughout the inshore this week with sizes ranging from 2-5 lbs. Anglers are using Mullet as bait to match the run. They have been thick as well. Spoons or Spool Techs are the best setup so far. The Blues are the main target of most anglers however there have been reports of a few Snook, Common and Tarpon in the nearshore. They are fairly spotty and no guaranteed catch this week.

OFFSHORE – Now that anglers can finally make it to the offshore, the bite has been pretty good so far. There are a ton of Mahi (Dolphin) in 200-400 ft of water. They have been going after pulled Ballyhoo or chuggers and turning up in great sizes. Hot colors this week have been blue/white or hot pink. There have also been reports of Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) however they are more mixed. Some are around the Mahi but they can also be found farther out.

OFFSHORE – Despite the tough winds and weather conditions there has still been a solid bite in the area lately. Mahi (Dolphin) have been hitting not far off the beach and following the Ballyhoo run. On the reefs at both 30 and 50 ft anglers have been hooking Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) as well. Some anglers are kite fishing with Goggle Eyes however most are getting them by trolling with Ballyhoo, Mullet or Bonito. Herring and Bluerunners have been the bait of choice for the Sails. Kings (Mackerel, King) and even some Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) have been a bit closer to shore.

BAIT REPORT – There is a thick Ballyhoo run on the inshore. Some fish are moving in to find them so they should not be difficult to catch. There are still some sporadic Mullet swimming as well. Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is not a lot of action happening on the inshore. Tarpon are hitting pretty well and that’s what most anglers are targeting. They are using Spooks and Bombers in either Mullet or Chartreuse. They have all been holding up outside the jetties and the bite is expected to continue over the holiday weekend.

OFFSHORE – Sailfishing (Billfish – Sailfish) has been phenomenal. We have had high winds, but a lot of bait in the area. We use primarily Herring, Bluerunners, Goggle Eyes, Ballyhoo, any form of live bait on the reef generally works for Sailfish, Mahi (Dolphin), Kingfish (Mackerel, King), and Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) on the edge this time of the year. One boat this week posted 31 Sailfish releases. Exceptional numbers, we are really seeing those type of numbers but it is not abnormal for this time of the year for the next 5 months to have days with between 1-6 Sailfish a trip. There is quite a few Mahi every time we have calm weather or a little bit of east wind we have decent catches of Mahi. We have had Mahi almost every trip with enough for a few meals and in general the challenge this time of the year is just watching the weather. The Sailfishing can be real good when we have high winds but generally somewhere in that 10-15 knot category is what works best. Calm weather is better for the Mahi and also Cobia. They should start up any week now where we sight fish in calm weather out of our Tuna towers. So basically it’s a great time of the year to fish and I hope you can make it down here. INSHORE – The Snook, Common bite has been steady chasing the ending Mullet run. The Tarpon reports have increased, and so have the sizes. They continue to swim near the inlets, bridges, beaches and piers and seem to be biting just about anything. Most anglers are using live Mullet or similar artificials as their go to in the inshore.

OFFSHORE – There has been a consistent and solid Wahoo bite roughly 200-300 ft offshore. They have been mixed in with a good amount of Billfish – Sailfish and even some stray Dolphin. These species are loving the Ballyhoo bite which is what most anglers are bringing with them. Kings (Mackerel, King) have been turning up on the reef. There are lots of small sizes however there are some great weights mixed in for anglers putting in the time. Reports have come in of some great Tuna, Blackfin fishing. Our sources are stating they are either very small or extremely big.

OFFSHORE – Outside of 200 ft there are tons of Wahoo biting and chasing the Ballyhoo. Most of the other offshore fish have moved in closer at this time so anglers are finding the most success with ‘Hoo around structures. Within 100 ft of shore anglers are also catching Billfish – Sailfish and Dolphin on structures as they have been chasing the Ballyhoo run also.

INSHORE – There is a lot more variety of fish to catch inshore. Snook, Common are biting really well chasing the mullet. There have also been reports of Jack, Crevalle and Tarpon swimming near inlets, draw bridges, beaches and piers, pretty much any structures. Anglers are throwing live or artificial as they all seem to be biting anything, although the thick Mullet run has acted as a great live bait.

BAIT REPORT – Ballyhoo and Mullet are both running thick right now. The fish are chasing them and they are working well inshore and offshore.

OFFSHORE – Deep water fishing has been pretty good as of late. Although there is nothing on the bottom, the reefs are hosting Kingfish (Mackerel, King), Dolphin and Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish). Trolling with spoons, Ballyhoo or Mullet strips have been working well for each fish. As winds continue to gust you luckily won’t have to go out too far as these species can be found in the 2-3 mile area. Extreme weather has been too rough for anglers to get out much farther than 3 miles to look for Swordfish but we anticipating some great results when conditions lie down.

INSHORE – Tarpon are really chewing right now and you will have no trouble getting your hook into a fish. There’s a significant amount of Bluefish swimming in addition to plenty of good sized Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) that continue to feast inshore. They have become less frequent as the weather cools, so they may put up a bit of a fight in the coming weeks. Anglers are using sidewinders, Finger Mullet and Pilchards for a good bite and have reported to be very successful so far.

BAIT REPORT – Finger Mullet and Pilchards are still running around the beach area so make sure you stock up on these as the inshore fish are loving them. Hollywood / Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – There is lots of action happening this week. Sailfish are biting about 1-4 miles offshore and are hitting most live baits whether trolling or kite fishing. If you head 10-15 miles out you can expect to hook some Dolphin which seem to be biting just about anything you throw out there. Farther out at the 20 mile mark you’ll be in 1500-1600 ft. of water where daytime Swordfish are red hot. Again, live bait are exactly what they’re looking for.

INSHORE – There’s been a decent bite inshore. Tarpon, Spinner Sharks, Snook, Big Jack and Bluefish are busting schools of mullet.. You’ll have no trouble hooking any of these using Live Mullet, frozen Mullet, or any imitations.

BAIT REPORT – Mullet are running and numbers are quite good. There’s been reports of very full cast nets lately.

OFFSHORE – There’s been a ton of Kingfish on live bait inside the 10 mile mark. The smaller Kingfish have been pretty numerous on the troll, but the bigger fish are definitely preferring live bait. Dolphin slowed down a bit and you’ll need to be at least 10 miles offshore or sitting between 120 and 250 ft of water to find the weed lines. A sea witch topped with a Bonita strip is working better than Ballyhoo out here.

INSHORE – Snook, Tarpon, Jacks, and small Sharks are all over the Mullet moving down the beaches. As long as you’re throwing fresh Mullet, the fish are biting.

BAIT REPORT – There’s a lot of Mullet coming down the beach right. You’re going to be better off netting Mullet along the beach than throwing artificials. Grab ‘em while they’re fresh.

OFFSHORE – The Mahi fishing certainly isn’t what it was 2 weeks ago. You can still get a few Mahi, but it’s a lot harder to load up on them. The weeds have broken up a bit and you’ll have to work and search a lot to get your fill.

INSHORE – The snook fishing inshore has been really good on the beaches. The jetties will also have some Snook. Calcutta Shad and Spoolteks are working great for them. Moving water is your best friend when Snook fishing. Some Kingfish are also being caught inside the reef by trolling drum spoons on planers.

OFFSHORE – Scattered Kingfish bite across the various reefs right now. The bottom fishing on the wrecks has been a little tough. The full moon brought a great Wahoo bite and they’re still being found around the debris further offshore. There’s been a few Marlin caught along with some Dolphin. Things are pretty typical for this time of year and will start to ramp up come fall.

INSHORE – The Snook fishing is as good as it gets right now. There’s been a lot of Snook caught that are over slot limit. Live bait, big plugs, jigs with live bait are all working well for them. They’re in a pretty good feed right after coming off spawn. Passes, Jetties, and the surf are all great places for them. The Tarpon fishing has been spotty due to summertime heat. With the Snook bite being so hot, most anglers are electing to fish the steadier bite over searching for Tarpon.

OFFSHORE – The Wahoo are around and in the mornings they are very active and will stay active as the moon gets fuller over this weekend. They love to chase purple and black trolling lures as well as Blue Runners. Wahoo are 12-1500 feet out so aim to go at least that far out. The Dolphin are out about 8-10 miles and love to bite on trolled ballyhoo, usually they follow the weedlines around so look for those and keep an eye on the sky, because birds will often give them away if they are closer into shore. Bottom fishing is good right now but the trick is using live bait and long fluorocarbon leaders.

INSHORE – Snook season opens up September 1st and they are on the beaches, off the piers and stacked in the passes. If you want to catch them your best bet is to use live Mullet or Shrimp. Try fishing for them when it is a little cooler, but other than that, they are out there and hungry!

BAIT REPORT – There is no Mullet right now but there will be patchy schools soon; most of the bait is up north.

Offshore: Jumbo Snappers everywhere! The Snappers in Lauderdale can’t be imagined from keeper to 30″!!!!!! Mangrove and Yellowtail snappers have been the biggest we’ve ever seen. Were catching them off Silversides on a bright jighead, Tunas and Kings being caught on dark skirts with Bonita strip in the 175′ range. Mahi here and there sails occasionally.

Inshore, piers, docks: We are still seeing an active inshore snook and tarpon game on the larger Pilchards if you use a top water set up with a 2 foot leader, Mangroves, Mackerel and Barracudas being caught on white feather jigs.

Live bait: Ballyhoo and Pilchards abundant everywhere right now, if using a Sabiki in 15ft. of water you can catch Goggle-eyes.

OFFSHORE – Stephanie over at Bill Boyd’s Bait & Tackle assures me that the summer time pattern is still in place and the tips from last week still hold true. I’ll give her a call in another 7 days just to make sure that nothing has changed, but for now you are safe going ahead and scrolling down to last weeks report. Tony, a member of the Pro Angler team and a saltwater specialist over at Anglers Bait & Tackle told me that he has been catching lots of Bonita and Blackfin between 80-120 feet. There are also Dolphin but they are running far out. Deep dropping is hit and miss, some Mangrove Snapper, Yellowtail Snapper, and Mutton Snapper on the reef.

INSHORE – When I questioned her about the inshore the only new thing she had to say was that she was trying to get some of those cool SpoolTek lures in, and will keep us posted.

BAIT REPORT – Bait seems to fear the Fort Lauderdale waters, so you are going to want to visit a little further North in Boca.

Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Carlos at Carl’s Bait and Tackle said that the offshore fishing slowed down this last week. The west wind cut through and killed all of the good fishing. The wrecks have been hot for the Amberjack if you want to target them. Bonitas have been here in full force inside the reef. Last night Carlos talked to a guy who was catching a lot of Yellowtail Snapper dropping Silversides, Shrimp, and Squid to the bottom around structure.

INSHORE – The inshore fishing is alright right now. It isn’t anything special, but all the Snook guys are keeping a hungry eye on the water, just waiting for those big suckers to beach. They should start appearing anytime soon. When they show up you are going to want to fish near the beach with Shrimp early in the morning or late at night. Snook usually have a good night feed as well if you are looking to do some nocturnal fishing.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report

Fort Lauderdale / Tortugas Fishing Report Dry Tortugas –  On the Dry Tortugas Pro Angler Team member Tony has been seeing lots of Mutton Snapper, Blackfin Tuna, King fish, Black Grouper and lots of Sharks. For the Mutton Snapper he is using Goggle Eye, which he brines so they don’t get soft, and Speedos. For the Tuna, Tony has been having success with Butterfly and Vertical Jigs.

Fort Lauderdale OFFSHORE – The offshore fishing is great! This week TOny has been getting a good catch of Dolphin as well as some ten pound Tripletail. For the Dolphin he is heading out about 20-30 miles. There he is trolling Squid, which he rigs up weedless because the weeds have been too thick out there. Out there he’s also catching Wahoo and Barracuda. Both of these fish are loving the Ballyhoo. For the Wahoo Tony has been using white and blue skirts with the Ballyhoo. If you’d rather go bottom fishing Tony says the Mangrove Snapper are spawning and are really good on the reef. Try dropping some little cut Pilchards for those. Mutton Snapper are out there too.

BAIT REPORT– You’ll be able to find lots of bait around. If you’re heading out offshore you’ll find tons of Pilchards around the boat a night which you can sabiki up. You’ll also find Goggle Eye around the Pier. Try using little jigs for those.

OFFSHORE – The Mahi Mahi are 8-10 miles off right now. You are going to want to troll Ballyhoo for them. Keep your eyes open for the weedlines and birds because they will give away the best Mahi spots. Bottom fishing is also good right now. There are a few Amberjacks on the reef. A charter came into Carl’s Bait & Tackle that had a really good day fishing for the Yellowtail and Mangrove Snapper around the reef. They were using Squid, Shrimp, and Silversides. If you want to bottom fish for the Grouper, a lot of people have been using Pinfish or Goggle Eyes.

INSHORE – Kenny mentioned that there is bait around, and a good number of fish biting inshore. The Snook and Tarpon are the main fish right now. The Snook are spawning this time of year so you want to start on the beach before you check anything else. The best time to go fishing early in the morning on a high tide. Shrimp are still a great bait, but anything you can get live will work.

OFFSHORE – The Dolphin was moving through strong last week down between 800-1000 feet. The deeper the better. The Snapper bite is pretty consistent and will be good throughout the month and into the next month, but expect it to slow down after that. Snapper is generally good throughout the summer, so make hay while the sun shines and target them while you can. You are going to want to drop a Ballyhoo plug or Goggleye to the bottom. If you want to go for Yellowtail then try dropping dead pilchards and free lining them back, or try a Silver Sides.

INSHORE – Nick has heard that there are Tarpon around inshore, and Snook on the beaches and inlets. This time of year you are going to want to target the Tarpon with Pilchards because Pilchards are around right now – match the hatch. Right before sunset on an outgoing tide is really good for the Tarpon. Local inlets or bridges are going to be your best bet.

OFFSHORE – Kingfish, blackfin tuna with bonitas mixed in. He had two Sailfish on the line while kite fishing, however, he lost both of them – and then got robbed by four more Blackfin Tuna. There is an unlimited amount of Bonita out there, so many that you can’t help but catch them. He did really good on Pulley Ridge. Tony Madamba’s friend Richard who owns Anglers Bait & Tackle runs trips once a month out to Key West and the Tortugas. Tony has seen Wahoo and Grouper out at the Tortugas, but what really caught his eye were the Mangrove Snapper that are spawning. Off of Fort Lauderdale he caught a 10 pound Mangrove Snapper. Out by the reef there is a lot of Yellowtails. Tony was also telling me about some of the lures he uses like the Gulf Stream Flair Hawk which are unbelievable for tarpon, and especially Snook. Between those and the Spooltek lures he has been having a time. If you haven’t seen the Spoolteks check them out, the hook releases itself from the bait and puts out another 10 inches or so of wire so the fish can’t use the lure to leverage itself off of the hook.

BAIT REPORT – Menhaden and Threadfin are around. The Pilchards are small but the only good bait were the Threads. Goggleeyes off the reefs at night.

OFFSHORE – Clint over at LMR Inc was telling us that the Bonitas have been snapping offshore. There is also a lot of Kingfish, and further out there is some Blackfin Tuna. Dolphin has been decent; but nothing to tell your grandkids about in front of a campfire 20 years from now. A couple Sailfish have been caught this time of year, not even that far out, in 120-150 feet of water. There is also a good number of Hammerhead Sharks. The Dolphin have been anywhere between 800-1000 feet; true to their nature they move a lot, but check around offshore weedlines and troll Ballyhoo for them.

INSHORE – The only thing being seen down the inshore is tight lines, at the beaches, piers, inlets, you name it there are fish there. Snook has been especially hot and is only going to get better because the summer bait is moving around a lot. Right now sardines, goggle eyes, pilchards are congregating along the beaches, piers, mouth of the inlet, and along the jetties. There is also a good number of Tarpon, Ladyfish, Barracudas, Jack Crevalles, etc. Get out there and give them what you got. 

BAIT REPORT – Tons of it. If you are in a boat and plan on cast netting, for the love of all that is holy don’t go right up to the pier. Have the common sense to get a 20 galloon bait bucket, sabiki off the pier, and take it to your truck. Also, chumming for Snapper has turned up a lot of Ballyhoo and bigger Pilchards under the lights, use a cast net for those. Down south in 30-50 feet of water the ballyhoo and pilchards have been thick too.

Hollywood / Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – There is a lot of Dolphin out there. You’ll want to look for them where the water changes colour, or where there are things floating like weedlines and debris. They like the offshore shade. Similar to last week you’ll find them around 60 feet of water. Troll for them with Ballyhoo. You can expect to see a lot of Dolphin and Kings in the next few weeks while Sailfish and Blackfin will be on their way out.

INSHORE – Inshore you’ll find Snapper, Amberjacks and if you’re lucky even some Snook. These fish are hitting hard on cutbait. If you have your heart set on Snook you’ll want to check out the bridges near Hollywood. Anything live works best there. If you are going with artificials go with a topwater lure or a deep diving plug. This works especially well in the morning when the Tarpon are especially aggressive.

BAIT REPORT – This time a year there are usually Mullet and Pilchards inshore. Some people are having a hard time finding Mullet and some find it easy. So you’ll just have to try your hand and see if you’ve got the luck.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – There has been a lot of Dolphin in the 800-900 foot range along the weedlines. As always it is recommended that you troll Ballyhoo when looking for Dolphin. In terms of bottom fishing the Snapper bite has been awesome! There are lots of fish in the shallower range but deeper is where you will catch the bigger fish. The 60 foot range is Nick from Carl’s Bait and Tackle Shop’s sweet spot. while bottom fishing drop a Ballyhoo on the bottom and then freeline a dead Pilchard or Silverside. You can expect to see a lot of Dolphin and Kings in the next few weeks while Sailfish and Blackfin will be on their way out.

INSHORE – Inshore in Fort Lauderdale you’ll find Tarpon and Jacks. Catch these fish with some nice cutbait. Closer to Hollywood you’ll find Snook near the bridges. Anything live works best as bait. If you are going with artificials go with a topwater lure or a deep diving plug. This works especially well in the morning when the Tarpon are especially aggressive.

BAIT REPORT – On the beach in the Hollywood and Haulover area you’ll find a ton of Pilchards.
