Daytona Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – The bite has been steady inshore this week. For the most part everything is on schedule, aside from the recent wind which has thrown a few fish off. Trout and Redfish are resilient and when anglers are able to make it on the water they are catching fish. Target Trout during the golden hours, sunrise and sunset. With the weather and murky water you’ll want to be using live bait for attraction. The same story goes for Reds, however they are pushing up to the shallower water. They don’t necessarily mind a bit of dirty water, but they still like to keep shallow. Searching areas such as Pumphouse Road in Titusville will be key. Of course, we can’t forget about the Snook as they hold up on docks and mangrove shorelines up and down the coast. Sizes and numbers are good throughout. They too, will likely come on live bait. Deeper docks may be holding Drum, so don’t be surprised if you hook them as a bycatch. The new kid in town has been Bluefish, and they’re coming in with style. Huge sizes have invaded the beaches, in some areas scaring off other species. Pompano and Whiting can be caught from the beach as well, however they aren’t as consistent down the coast. Towards Indian River you can find them in the inlets, but be prepared for a fight.
OFFSHORE – Unsurprisingly wind has made it tough to get offshore this week however a few weather windows have allowed anglers to make quick trips and take advantage of the bite. By far, the best bite has been from the incoming Dolphin as they make their way in. Towards Daytona, anglers are still travelling quite far, to 2500 feet of water to find them. By the time we get to Indian River they are as close as 120 feet of water. The sizes are decent so far and when the weather allows they are definitely worth going after. The bottom bite is also producing this week. Amberjack have turned up from roughly 90 feet of water out of the Indian River area. Sandbar Sharks can also be found swimming offshore, but most anglers are avoiding them while targeting Ajs during the few opportunities they have. Swimming above, anglers are excited to see Kings making their way closer to shore. It shouldn’t be long before they are nearshore. Target them on the troll as they have been quite active over the past week.

INSHORE – The Sheepshead bite is pretty good inshore. Under docks and bridges are the best place to find them. The Reds (Drum, Red) are around however there are more good sized Black Drum (Drum, Black) swimming inside. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are on the edge of shell bars. They are small but biting well. There are also Big Bluefish are in the river.
OFFSHORE – Red Snapper (Snapper, Red) are on the bottom but are catch and release. Cobia aren’t far from the beach. Vermillion (Snapper, Vermillion) are appearing in the middle grounds close to 100 feet. The numbers are consistent. Enormous Bluefish are swimming about 10 miles offshore and are up to 15 pounds. A few have been caught inshore in the river as well. Way out the Mahi (Dolphin) bite is on fire. Wahoo are still around and Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) are biting well at the ledge. Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) have been sighted during the day going after Ballyhoo on a fast troll.
BAIT REPORT – Menhaden are being found from the beach.

Daytona Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – There is a superb variety of fish to be taken inshore this week. The Trout in particular are the main bite so far. The early morning and late evening bite has been, hands down, the best time to fish from Daytona to Port St. Lucie. A variety of setups are working to hook them including both live and artificial baits. As we move towards Titusville we see live bait being more successful. Overall there has been no trouble stacking up a few good Trout. Typically talking about Redfish goes hand in hand with Trout however this week they seem to be a bit more scattered. They are still worth targeting inshore however there are no impressive numbers to report.
Snook are a close second in terms of the hot bite. They, too, are being caught from Daytona through Port St. Lucie. They aren’t too picky in terms of what they have been taking. Artificials such as Spoolteks and Flare Hawks are working along with live Pilchards, Menhaden or Mullet. They seem to be an easy fish to land this week if you are looking for a quick catch.
The typical early Spring fish are beginning to heat up. We are seeing Sheepshead on structure, Drum in the Lagoon, along with Pompano, Bluefish and Whiting heating up on the beaches. We are also seeing tons of bait moving into the coastal areas. Everything is looking good to improve throughout the next few weeks and fire up a great Spring bite.
OFFSHORE – Now that we are finally seeing some nicer weather the bite is beginning to improve. Dolphin are the main catch from Daytona to Port St. Lucie. The sizes are great so far and the bite is steady. Anglers are targeting them anywhere from 150 feet of water and out, with some areas being just a bit closer in 90 feet. Anglers haven’t had any trouble hooking up the past week.
Kings are the next more prominent target into this week. They continue to show up, scattered with Cobia a bit closer to the coast. Anglers are trolling with live bait such as Ballyhoo or Cigar Minnows.
The bottom bite has been producing the usual Snapper and Amberjack anywhere from 60 feet and out. Cape Canaveral and Sebastian in particular have been hot areas to target them.

Daytona Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – Even though it’s been tough to get offshore this week there has been a fantastic bite for anglers heading to the surf or the inshore. We are seeing a nice variety of fish starting with a hot Drum bite from Daytona through Vero Beach area. As usual you can find them on structures as well as on the beaches and in the rivers. They are also taking a variety of bait setups including cut Clams, Shrimp or Fishbites. Plenty of Sheepshead are mixed in as they begin to fire up. You can fish them using similar bait setups.
As always, the typical Redfish, Trout and Snook are hanging around. Redfish seem to prefer the Island life so areas like Cucumber Island and the spoil islands will be key. Trout are improving as we move South but if you are targeting them be prepared to be heading out in the early morning for the best bite. Snook can’t seem to make up their minds so they are just about everywhere. It doesn’t take much looking to find them however hooking them will require Pinfish or Greenies this week.
Scattered reports of Flounder on the jetties as well as Pompano and Mackerel on the beach are beginning to come in and they should fire up as the weather improves. Bait is also beginning to show up which is a promising sign.
OFFSHORE – Despite tough fishing conditions there still some anglers braving the waters to take advantage of the unpressured bite. That being said, most reports are coming from closer wrecks and reefs with the bottom bite being more successful. Snapper are turning up in a variety of species this week and can be found consistently from Daytona to Vero. Head out to about 12 miles or look for ledges in 90 feet of water to find the best fish.
With the recent wind there has surprisingly been little debris floating around for Dolphin to be swimming under, so they are fairly scattered into this week. There are some nice catches turning up for anglers trolling Ballyhoo however they are nowhere near a steady bite. King Mackerel and Cobia are hit or miss throughout the region however they are out there if you are targeting them. If you can make it far enough offshore on a nice day, Sailfish have been caught out of Port St. Lucie.

Daytona Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – Snook season has been pretty good throughout the Central East Coast of Florida. The hottest bite this week was out of Ft. Pierce. Charter Captains and recreational anglers alike were finding success on live bait or jigs around bridges. Port St. Lucie saw good action in the spillway and locks, you can use shiners here. Nighttime Snook anglers are crediting most of the catches to using Windcheaters, Long As, Live Targets and also Shrimp. Pompano, when you can fish the surf, are decent from the beach in Daytona and Cocoa Beach but windy. They are also at the inlet around Ft. Peirce. Anglers are also doing well from the beach in port. St. Lucie fishing from Sandbar into the drop using goofy jigs or flare hawks. There has been Bluefish mixed in aswell. The Redfish and Trout bite has been steady, though not amazing. The best reports we had all week came from Mosquito Lagoon, where fish were tailing when the wind took a break. The bite was also good near Queen’s Cove on an outgoing tide, and Port St. Lucie saw both Trout and Redfish doing alright to the South.

OFFSHORE – Anglers saw a few bumpy days this week. We would normally expect reports on Mahi, Sailfish, Snappers and Grouper at this time of year. Blame the weather for a limited number of fishable days. Wahoo fishing was slow but should pick up out of Daytona as the full moon sets in. Amberjack have fished well from 80 to 130 feet of water. A live pinfish or other live bait sent to the bottom should do the trick. Red Snapper have been caught and released all over, especially off of Daytona. There are also a lot of reports of Kingfish caught this past week. Good numbers, combined with some poor seas, have kept a lot of angler in 60 to 90 feet of water trolling Clarkspoons, Bluerunners and Threadfins.

INSHORE – Trout fishing has been much better here than for Northeast Florida. If you like Trout fishing with live bait, expect to get into some Snook as well. Since the water has been warm, the Snook are fired up from Daytona to anywhere south of that. Most of the big Snook have been caught in the high current areas such as inlets. There’s still some Pompano being caught from the surf throughout the region, they just aren’t on fire. Whiting are mixed in with the Pompano and you can fish some inshore structures for Sheepshead.

OFFSHORE – A few bumpy days kept the boats close and the focus on Cobia, Kings and Ajs. Cape Canaveral landings saw decent number of King Mackerel and Cobia landed this week. Most of the Kings came off of 8A or Pelican, Cobia from fishing structures. There hasn’t been much talk of Cobia on Rays yet, we’re going to have to stick to deeper water for now. It can’t hurt, however, to keep an eye out for them when fishing buoys for Tripletail. Amberjack continued to fish well when the boats could get to at least 80 feet of water. Some popular baits were live Pinfish and Pigfish.

Daytona Beach / New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – Beach fishing has been decent throughout the region. Whiting, Bluefish and Pompano are being caught in good numbers up around New Smyrna Beach. As you go South towards Cocoa Beach you will begin to see more Redfish, Black Drum and Sharks such as Blacktip, Spinner and Blacknose on the beach. Palm Bay and Melbourne area in particular has a good number of Sharks chasing Whiting on the beach.
Inlet fishing from Palm Bay down to Port St. Lucie has been really productive for Snook anglers. Jack Crevalle are also being caught while Snook fishing. Most of the Jacks have been caught South of Vero beach.
Trout and Redfish haven’t been spectacular by any means however they are around any of the usual inshore flats and creeks all throughout Indian River. Shrimp, MirrOdines and DOAs will hook them.
OFFSHORE – For anyone looking to catch some Wahoo on the high speed troll they can travel to the gulf stream out of Daytona / New Smyrna area or South of Port St. Lucie. Dolphin have been really scattered. The best areas to head out of will be Palm Bay / Melbourne or farther South of Stuart. Kingfish and Sailfish have been decent when the boats can get out. Successful boats have launched out of Port Canaveral, Fort Pierce and South.
Offshore and nearshore bottom fishing was strongest from Palm Bay down to Vero Beach. Mostly Lanes and Vermillion Snapper are turning up. As you move farther South Mangroves are mixed in. Particularly off of Stuart there are plenty of catch and release Triggerfish. The only real word on Cobia came in from anglers fishing the wrecks and reefs out of Vero Beach.

The piers and jetties are holding Bluefish, Drum (Drum, Black) and Trout. The surf bite is predominantly Whiting (Kingfish, Southern), Blues and a few small Black Drum. Shrimp or Fish bites are working well for the Whiting while Spoons, Gotcha Plugs or Mullet are the preference for Bluefish. The Fishin’ Hole is gearing up for the Holidays with lots of great sales. OFFSHORE – There are a variety of Snapper (Snapper, Lane & Snapper, Mangrove & Snapper, Red) turning up offshore when anglers are able to make it out. They are starting at 60-100 ft. Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) and Cobia are mixed in the bunch. They seem to be swimming the same pilings, artificial reefs and wrecks. Cobia can be found as close as 5 miles on the artificial reefs as well as the natural reefs that continue on out to 15 miles. They are generally not too, too deep, around 80 ft or so. Trolling for Kings (Mackerel, King) and Bonito (Bonito, Little Tunny) over the natural reefs in 70-90 ft of water is productive. There has been some activity with Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish), Dolphin and Wahoo from 160 to 250 ft. BAIT REPORT – Shrimp have been running the Ormond Beach and Flagler area. Moving water on the higher tide is producing the better bite. A few anglers have been doing better on the incoming than the outgoing. OFFSHORE – Cobia are biting on the wrecks when anglers are able to get out. Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) are farther out at the stream with Wahoo and a few Dolphin. Fish have been caught anywhere from 100ft of water to 21 miles out. Trolling feathers has been best to hook them. Cedar Plugs are a good alternative. BAIT REPORT – Mullet are still around but they are scattered. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for more angling tips and tricks! INSHORE – There is a good Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Drum (Drum, Black) bite into this week. They are taking mostly Shrimp. They are on the inside around the creek mouths and docks. On the surf there is a strong bite of Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and larger Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). Clams and Fish bites are best to hook them. Occasionally we see a Black Drum or Redfish mixed in. At the pier we are seeing Spotted Trout fishing a live Shrimp under a float or casting Gotcha Plugs. We are also seeing Black Drum and Redfish turn up on live or chunked Mullet here too. The inlet is similarly holding Redfish, Black Drum and a few Sheepshead. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks! OFFSHORE – Anglers are heading out to bottom fish for Snapper (Snapper, Lane & Snapper, Vermillion & Snapper, Red). The Snook and Trout are being caught on free lined live Shrimp or artificials. Black Drum and Redfish are taking baitfish on the bottom using live or dead Mullet on a Carolina Rig. The surf has been good for big Reds. The ocean piers are great as well. Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are in the surf taking Shrimp or Fishbites. The piers are producing good numbers of Sea Trout and Flounder underneath. Flounder love live Mullet or live Shrimp on a sliding cork. The Trout prefer live Mullet or live Shrimp on a fixed cork. Throughout the inlet things are similar. We are seeing oversized Reds, Black Drum and Snook at night. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks! INSHORE – It’s been pretty windy but some anglers are heading out to search for Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) around the rocks. Silver spoons with a 3-4 oz trolling weight. This keeps the lure from skipping the water and keep it below the surface. They are loving the silver spoons. We expect to see Cobia show up soon as the water temperatures are just right. Get your 1.5-2 oz Cobia jigs ready using feathers or Witch Hair with a curly tail grub or Pinfish if they aren’t biting the jigs. There have been no reports out of the Lagoon so far. INSHORE – The surf is producing sporadic catches of Pompano, Florida that are mixed in with some Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Bluefish. Gotcha Plugs or Mullet on the bottom has been the best method to catch them. The Pompano have been around the New Smyrna Beach jetty lately but they are moving and expected to thicken up once the water heats up a bit. The bridges and structure have been filled with Sheepshead mixed with the occasional Drum, Black. Anglers are using Shrimp or cut Blue Crab. The nighttime bite has some Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Snook, Common around the lights. They are still fairly small at this point but the bite is good. The backwater of Tomoka River and Spruce Creek are giving up Snook as well as Redfish (Drum, Red) and Black Drum. OFFSHORE – When anglers can get out they are targeting Wahoo on the high speed troll. Most anglers are getting 3-4 per outing. A few of the fish are up to 80 lbs. There is some bottom fishing action as well. Snapper, Red has been biting but it does have to be returned. There are some Cobia being caught as well. Triggerfish, Gray and Sea Bass, Black have been holding up on structure in about 90 ft of water this week. BAIT REPORT – There is very little bait swimming this week for anyone with a cast net. It should pick up as the water warms. The Fishin’ Hole is a great spot to stock up on bait. They are taking Shrimp as well. Sheepshead are turning up any time around rocks and pilings. Any structure will do well. Live Fiddler Crabs and Sand Fleas are the best bait to hook them. The occasional Snook, Common has shown up along with some Reds (Drum, Red) throughout the day. The ocean piers are doing well for Sheepshead and Drum (Drum, Black) while the surf is producing mainly Drum and Reds. Bluefish are finally in and have a consistent bite so far while the Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Pompano, Florida are more here and there. The Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are loving fish bites, frozen Shrimp, and Clams so far this week. Mangrove Snappers are around bridges and also Trout at night. For Pompano: fish bites, frozen shrimp, and clams. OFFSHORE – The offshore this week has been slow due to unfavorable weather. Before the recent front hit there was a solid bite of Wahoo, Dolphin and Billfish – Sailfish. We expect this to continue once the conditions lie down and anglers are able to get back on the water. BAIT REPORT – The Mullet run is quite spotty so far this week however they are still expected to be out there, just more difficult to catch. INSHORE – The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are still out there but the bite has been slow this week. We have not had many reports of Trout or Reds (Drum, Red) turning up so far. Most of the target this week has been on the great offshore bite but you should see some great catches in both areas throughout the holiday week. OFFSHORE – The main focus has been on the offshore this week as anglers are gearing up for the great bite. Billfish – Sailfish are showing up in great numbers and sizes so far. They are not difficult to find, especially on live bait such as Ballyhoo. The Mahi (Dolphin), Wahoo and Tuna, Blackfin bite is beginning to pick up and doing well. These are all weather permitting as there has been a bit of an unfavorable front the past few days. There are no signs of Mackerel, King so far this week and not a lot of bottom fishing happening due to seasonal closures. INSHORE – Anglers have a few species to look for throughout the inshore this week. Reds (Drum, Red), Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) and some Snook, Common are mixed throughout the nearshore. There has been no action from the shore or docks so far. The best baits have been free lined Shrimp on the outgoing tide. Mullet and Mud Minnows are fairly productive as well however Shrimp has been key so far. OFFSHORE – There is a front expected to move in Friday evening that will mix up the water in the area pretty well. That does not leave anglers much time to take advantage of the great bite this week. Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) have been hitting extremely well along with some great Kings (Mackerel, King) mixed in. Ballyhoo of course is the number one bait pulled on a slow troll. The bottom fishing has been great as well. There are plenty of Grouper, Gag and Snapper, Gray swimming the bottom. Any live bait is working well for them, although anglers should check their local regulation to make sure they are open in their area. BAIT REPORT – Mullet are continuing to run this week and are mixed in with a few spotty Mud Minnows. NSB Bait and Tackle 386-428-2841 http://www.nsbbaitandtackle.com/December 11, 2015

INSHORE – The hot bite throughout the inshore this week as been Sheepshead and Drum (Drum, Black). The Sheeps are hitting live Fiddler Crabs which have also been somewhat productive for the Drum as well. Live or Dead Shrimp are the first preference however when it comes to bait for Drum. They have both been mixed together holding up by the jetties and bridges. The bite is expected to continue with the nice weather over the weekend. OFFSHORE – Weather has been nasty offshore however it has recently cleared and we expect boaters to head out on the weekend. Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) and Snook, Common have been very active as well for anglers drifting with Shrimp. They are also using Pinfish specifically for the Snook and finding it extremely effective. OFFSHORE – The boats are just starting to get back out now that the recent spurt of bad weather has seemed to pass. The ocean has finally calmed down this week and boats and charters have headed out today. INSHORE – The jetties have been holding some good sizes of Snook, Common. They are hitting Blue Crab, Finger Mullet and are preferring small Pinfish. The weather has been way too rough to even get out to the inlets so most anglers have stayed on shore or inside this week. Our sources are hoping conditions lie down before the holiday so anglers can hit the water for some great bites over the weekend. OFFSHORE – It has been a tough go in the deeper water as of late. The unfavorable weather has made getting on the water extremely difficult for anglers. Anyone who would like to head out on the water this holiday when conditions lie down can always check out our Tips feature which provides additional information and suggestions on how to improve your catch. BAIT REPORT – Mullet are starting to show up thanks to the cold front. Finger Mullet are bunching up around the docks or floating objects. INSHORE – Now that the weather has begun to calm down a bit this week anglers have made it out to the deeper water and are catching lots of Kings (Mackerel, King) and Billfish – Sailfish. They are using live Ballyhoo as their bait of choice. To find them anglers are heading towards the steeples, just past the party grounds. OFFSHORE – The Snook, Common bite is absolutely on fire in the area this week. The outgoing tide is the best time to fish and anglers are bringing giant Shrimp, Mullet or xwraps. The Pompano, Florida bite has begun to slow down and reports of these have decreased in the surf, backwater and inlet. Clams are still working well to hook them. BAIT REPORT – Mullet are running absolutely everywhere and are working well for inshore bait this week. NSB Bait and Tackle 386-428-2841November 13, 2015
Daytona Beach / New Smyrna Beach
INSHORE – There are lots of Pompano, Florida swimming just about everywhere. The Surf, Backwater and Inlet are all swarming with them. Most anglers have been using Clams to hook them and finding they are working extremely well. Reds (Drum, Red) have also been running around the jetty chasing live Blue Crabs, live Mullet or cut frozen Mullet. Any of these baits are working well under a cork. There have also been reports of some Flounder, Southern that are chasing the running Mullet as well. Bluefish are beginning to show up but our source have not seen many reeled in yet. The reports that have turned up have mainly come out of the surf at this point. OFFSHORE – The unfavorable weather has deterred anglers from heading out to the deeper water lately. At this time there are not many offshore reports coming in. There has been word of a few Billfish – Sailfish however they have not been any great sizes. Anglers have also reported some Mahi Mahi (Dolphin) swimming in the deep water, farther out beyond 35 miles. Most people are taking small Ballyhoo, Squid and Sardines out with them. BAIT REPORT – There are still some Mullet running although they are beginning to become thin and are turning up pretty small for the most part. Fishin Shack 386-788-2120November 6, 2015
Daytona Beach / New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report
INSHORE – The Snook, Common bite has been extremely good lately. There have also been quite a few Tarpon in the rivers and near docks. Live bait is working best for both of these. There are some scattered Reds (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) as well hitting baits under a cork. OFFSHORE – The Billfish – Sailfish bite is good right now while slow trolling using natural bait. Wahoo are biting on the high speed troll along the weedlines or edges with color. Dolphin are scattered but still there. These species can be found anywhere past the 35 mile mark. BAIT REPORT – There are a lot of Finger Mullet and Shrimp running so anglers should have no problem stocking up on bait. OF NOTE – New Smyrna Marina will remain open for transient boaters and as always can provide both diesel and gas. New Smyrna Marina 386-427-4514New Smyrna / Daytona Beach Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – The deep waters are safe from anglers lately as conditions have been way too rough to get out on the water. No one has been taking on the conditions this week and those who do are generally turning around. There have been no reports at this time so we are anxiously awaiting improved weather.
INSHORE – The piers have been producing some Sheepshead as well as Reds (Drum, Red) and Drum (Drum, Black). Reds and Drum are also showing up in the river along with Flounder (Flounder, Gulf) producing a mixed bag of species. Live Shrimp, Live Mullet or frozen Mullet have been the best bait for any of these lately.
BAIT REPORT – There are still Shrimp and Mullet running at the moment however they are beginning to become spotty so stock up while you can.

OFFSHORE – If you can catch a break in the windy weather you may have a great opportunity to hook some Wahoo and Dolphin. Although scattered, they’re waiting for something to eat so even though anglers will have to run fairly deep it may just be worth it. We hope to see the wind calm down soon so everyone can get back on the water.
INSHORE – Weather conditions have created some spotty fishing inshore. The piers are a bit more successful in turning up some good sized Redfish despite the wind. With the most success coming from Finger Mullet you can expect to hook some Reds with both Live or similar artificial. Whiting, Pompano and Bluefish are all waiting in the surf and generally hitting Live Shrimp and Sand Fleas. If you can get Shrimp and Sand Fleas to hold bottom don’t be surprised if you reel in some Whiting. Mullet is more a preference of the Blues and since they will be running for a little longer this is definitely something to take advantage of.
BAIT REPORT – The Mullet run is soon coming to an end. Grab you cast net and take advantage of them while they’re here.

OFFSHORE – Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach are gearing up for the fall fish. End of September, October, and beginning of November will be awesome fishing, weather permitting. Right now, troll for Dolphin, there are a few Wahoo in the area and Sailfish are starting to show up. Best results are still by trolling skirted Ballyhoo. Color doesn’t seem to matter in this area. BAIT REPORT – Everything from the North is starting to head South, this time of the year is great for catching bait fish. New Smyrna / Daytona Beach Fishing Report
Offshore: Trey tells us that as the water is clearing up after the recent storm, some anglers are bringing in pretty good Dolphin. Many of the big fish are hanging out along the color change between the clearer water and the murkier water, so anything that presents a good contrast in color should work well. In addition, fish are also present 2-3 feet below the weed lines. Along with the Dolphin, Wahoo are also starting to show up, and anglers have continued to be successful trolling Ballyhoo with either a planer or a big trolling lead with the bait about 50 feet below the surface. Deepwater Seafood Company has “bionic” bait, and they recommend using a chugger head or a lure head in front of the bait. Islander Head, Blue Water Candy, and Black Bart make a handful of skirted jigs that work well for Wahoo which require a little faster trolling than the Dolphin. It’s important to keep in mind that cooler water temperatures which typically come at the end of September will bring in more bait fish and hence, more Dolphin. About mid-October, the Sailfish will begin to show up in good numbers.Inshore: A few of the Deepwater Seafood Company’s boats have been plying the waters at the new wreck sites established by the county. They are out about 1 ½ miles in about 35 feet of water, and although reports of fish catches have not been hot yet, there are plenty of bait fish at this site.

Offshore: The recent “Garbage” tournament produced Bonita, Kingfish and Wahoo. On the bottom, anglers are having fun with Red Eyes, Mangrove Snapper with a lot of luck around Party Grounds and Turtle Mounds near wrecks and other structures.Inshore: Beach anglers have been scoring some whiting while pier goers have been catching some nice Redfish and Flounder. The Redfish like those large live Shrimp, but the trick with Flounder is to continue casting in various directions with various types of bait (They are not too particular about the bait, but small shrimp and pieces of dead shrimp seem to be doing the trick). Mangrove Snapper are showing up strong at the river inlets and farther upstream. The Fishing Shack recommends small hooks for most of the fish in the Daytona area. In addition to the fish, Shrimp are running down at Oak Hill.

New Smyrna / Daytona Beach Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – There is nice diversity in the offshore fishing right now. Most of the best catch are along the bottom, but that doesn’t mean you should discount trolling. There is a good Kingfish bite out there and they love chasing bait and lures through the water. Bottom fishing is exceptional with plenty of people catching Vermillion Snapper, Amberjacks, and Cobia. The Amberjacks are around the inlet, but the best place to go for the majority of the fish is going to be the Party Grounds. The reefs are also producing as well. Since the fishing is good right now, it is only natural that the Sharks are around. Night Fishing for sharks has been good over the last few weeks, but out contact hadn’t heard anything too concrete about it this week. The best way to tell if the Cobia are around is to keep your eyes on the Sting Rays – the more Rays the more Cobia.INSHORE – Dropping your bait to the bottom is going to be your go to technique inshore as well. The Mangrove Snapper and Black Drum are the predominant catch and they can not resist a good live Shrimp. If you plan on going with an artificial than the Berkley Gulp shrimp should work well. The structure is going to hold a lot of these fish, so check your usual spots or look for rocky bottom.
BAIT REPORT – There is some bait around, but going with shrimp is your best bet – and that means buying them.
The Fishin’ Shack has always prided themselves on being well priced and plans on continuing the good work that Richard – the owner – was committed to. Our condolences to Richard and the team at Fishin’ Shack, he will be sorely missed.

OFFSHORE – The fishing out far is still slow. There are a few scattered Dolphin and Wahoo. The bottom is still too cold to fish, Frank over at the Fishin’ Hole was telling me about how two groups of divers went down recently and said that there are tons of dead fish just laying on the bottom.INSHORE – There are Sheepshead around bridges. Fishing off the piers for the Sheepshead is also good, and there are Black Drum mixed in. They are biting good on the Shrimp. The Mingos are doing good inshore around the bridges, docks, and parks. Frank also told me that he saw a few Snook around the Highbridge Area.
BAIT REPORT – There is lots of bait along the beach inshore; mostly Mullet. The mullet hasn’t hit it’s peak yet and is expected to get stronger. There is also Shrimp and other assorted fish around Dunlawton Bridge.

OFFSHORE – Bob hasn’t heard anything personally, most people are still avoiding the offshore fishing because of the the thermocline, but hopefully by next week when the water warms up the fishing will kick back off. Bottom fishing and trolling is slow right now. There are some Kingfish but otherwise, nothing.INSHORE – Whiting on frozen Shrimp in the surf has been great. You really don’t need a live bait for them, and they will also chase sand fleas. There have been a few keeper Pompano recently because the water is cool. The river has been doing well with some Redfish, and a couple Flounder. The Flounder bite is far from fantastic, but even a couple of them is more than Bob has heard in a while. The river is good for Trout too, especially at night on live Shrimp. There are also reports of Mangrove Snapper.
BAIT REPORT – If you have a cast net you can find some small Mullet.

OFFSHORE – Fishing has been kind of slow. There are are few Wahoo in 130-180 feet. Jeff at Fishin’ Cove went out between 130-700 feet and didn’t see a single Dolphin. One of our other contacts went bottom fishing, however, and had a great time in the 2025 mile range catching Triggerfish, Amberjacks, Vermillion Snapper, and Mangrove Snapper. The Mangrove Snapper bite has been especially good this moon, and they like to chomp on Spanish Sardines.INSHORE – As I am sure you can tell, I called pretty much every store with “Fishin’” in their title to get a report this week. The usual fish are inshore right now; quite a bit of whiting off the beach and the pier. There are a few Pompano around, but the Redfish are more consistent. You can go out to the inlet and consistently catching Redfish all day. Try fishing with Shrimp if you prefer live bait, if not go with a gotcha plug.
BAIT REPORT – Inshore there is some Mullet around. Offshore, the bait is scattered.

New Smyrna / Daytona Beach New Smyrna Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – The bottom has had a cold current run through it lately. Faith at the Fishin’ Shack has heard that it has turned off bottom fishing, while Byron at the Fishin’ Cove Bait & Tackle bottom has heard the temperature break in the water column has made fishing better. I think the reason for the discrepancy is that bottom fishing all the way down isn’t that good, but if you bottom fish in your usual spots above the temperature break, the fish are quite active. The offshore fishery is quite active right now, Mahi Mahi, King Mackerel, and Cobia have all been caught trolling with Ballyhoo. For bottom fishing there is the usual Grouper, Black Sea Bass, and Mangrove Snapper. Try to bottom fish near structure, but make sure you stay above or close to the temperature break. For bait you are going to want to drop down Spanish Sardines or Squid.INSHORE – Faith has heard that a lot of Whiting are being caught off of the beach on frozen Shrimp. In the near shore area, Byron has heard that the Redfish, Trout, Mangrove Snapper, Sheepshead, and Flounder are all biting. Shrimp and cut mullet are going to be your best bait – if you can find the mullet live, that will also work. There was a four foot shark caught off the south causeway, so if you are playing with cut bait make sure that you are ready.
BAIT REPORT – There has been reports of people catching bait in the inlet area. Mullet is around, so keep an eye open.

New Smyrna / Daytona Beach Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – Caelan over at the Fishin’ Hole has been hearing that the bottom fishing is strong right now. Good showings of Triggerfish, Sea Bass, and Cobia. On the Surface there is King Mackerel close to the reefs and a few scattered Dolphin. Dolphin like to move around so if you are going for them, the further out you are the better. Keep your eyes peeled for a weedline, and as soon as you know you are in a good spot, start trolling Ballyhoo. Right now, the bait of choice for bottom fishing is Squid, however, if you are going after the Snapper you are going to want to chum and then drop down some Squid or a few Sardines.INSHORE – At the pier there is a lot of Sheepshead caught on Sand Fleas. If you have the time you can catch your own Sand Fleas too. Expect to find some Black Drum and FLounder mixed in. There is even more Black Drum in the river. Also in the river there is Snook and Tarpon, and for these fish you are going to want to use live Mullet or Mullet looking lures. Around the jetties there is a good number of Redfish. If you aren’t sure what bait to use, generally speaking, you can stick to live Shrimp inshore and do pretty well for yourself.
BAIT REPORT – Mullet are around early morning – cast net them if you can, they are vegetarian which makes using a sabiki rig hard. If you miss the early morning Mullet rush then you can probably catch them again late in the evening around Granada Bridge.
The Fishin’ Hole does rod and reel repair, offers live bait, and is stocked with Shrimp, Fiddler Crabs, and 3 coolers full of frozen bait. They also put line on spools – you name it these guys do it all. Check them out.

Daytona Beach Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – Trolling is slow, but the bottom fishing has been much better. Trey over at Deepwater Seafood Co has been feeling the Mangrove Snapepr bite around the reefs, wrecks and rocks. He recommends dropping down some sardines and squid. If you do plan on trolling, go out deep and try to target the Wahoo or Dolphin with frozen ballyhoo.
INSHORE – Surf and inlet fishing has seen a good number of Flounder and Black Drum. Cecils bait and tackle recommends Shrimp for them. Most of the fish inshore can’t resist a good live Shrimp. Other than that, Squid cut into little strips so it wiggles in the water is a well known Flounder magnet. Try to fish around the bridges.
BAIT REPORT – Pinfish are around any structure or dock. Drop down a sabiki on top of them, or outside of the inlet and you can find some.

New Smyrna Beach / Daytona Beach Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – Offshore you’ll find Vermillion and Lane Snapper. You’ll want to catch some pinfish are drop that down for those fish. They are hanging out around structure. There are also Cobia, Wahoo and Kingfish out there. They are enjoying Squid and Spanish Sardines.INSHORE – Around the bridges and structure you’ll find Mangrove Snapper, Black Drum, Pompano, and Flounder. These fish are taking well to Shrimp and Ladyfish cutbait. The best time to fish is in the morning. A lot of anglers in the area are also fans of lures. A lot of people use Blues and Jack Crevalle on Spoons or jigs with soft tails.
BAIT REPORT – Pinfish are around and you should be able to sabiki some up on your way offshore.

New Smyrna Beach / Daytona Beach Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – Gene from Fishin’ Hole reports that customers are still getting a good Wahoo bite. There is also still some Dolphin around. The Kings and Barracudas are starting to show now too! There are a ton of Red Snapper in the area but you can’t keep them since there is no Red Season here this year. If you bottom fish you might find some Cobia if the Red’s don’t get in the way. There are also Black Sea Bass, few Triggerfish and the occasional Grouper. The Grouper are a little harder to find since they are way out in the reefs. The Mangrove Snapper are really good. They aren’t very big but there are a lot of them. Try dropping some Spanish Sardines, Cigar Minnows or Squid in 80-100 feet of water to catch them!INSHORE – It seems the inshore fish are on Summer vacation. Fishing has been a little slower lately though the bite picks up in the early morning and in the evening after dark. There is also still a good Snook bite going on but they are out of season. There has also been a decent Redfish and short Black Drum bite. The best bait to use is live Shrimp or a lot of soft plastic Shads on jig heads. As far as locations go, try fishing the flats and creeks. You should also try to look for structure like fishing docks, and fallen trees. As mentioned above it is best to fish in the morning before it gets busy and the fish turn off.
BAIT REPORT – You won’t find much bait inshore but offshore you’ll find quite a few Flying Fish.

OFFSHORE – There is a lot of Bonita out there and you might come across some Red Snapper, but the season just closed. There are some Mangroves out there under the structures. Going out there with Speedo, large Shrimp, or a box of Sardine and Squid should do the trick. Go out about 5 miles out to about 70-80 feet. Trolling is not so hot right now, but is expected to pick up.INSHORE – Early in the morning or when the sun goes town is the best time to catch Mangrove Snapper, Flounder, Whiting, Blues and Small Sharks inshore. Frozen Shrimp, Mullet, Clams and Squid seem to be very effective bait for these situations. Though morning is the best time you should be able to catch any of these off the pier anytime.
BAIT REPORT– There is good deal of bait fish around.

OFFSHORE – Offshore we are trolling for Dolphin and Wahoo. There is Dolphin offshore but if you’re looking to catch a Wahoo you’re going to want to go even further out. If you can troll ballyhoo however squid and other live bait are suitable substitutes. If you are not looking to troll and instead plan on bottom fishing there is a good presence of Mangrove Snapper and Amberjack. Search for them around wrecks, reefs rocks and hard bottoms. INSHORE – The Mangrove Snapper and Whiting bite is good. Trying fishing with frozen Finger Mullet, Clams, and Crabs. Gotcha lures in Silver with a neon head and tail have also proven very effective. BAIT REPORT- There is lots of bait fish to be found including; Mullet, Spot, Flounder, Black Drum and Bluefish.

New Smyrna Beach / Daytona Beach Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – Mike over at the Fishin’ Hole told me that the tournament last weekend they were catching Dolphin, and I heard just a bit ago that there was a 52 pound Wahoo that took one of them on Sunday. But it has been primarily Dolphin. The week before it was crazy; but the luck didn’t hold over the weekend. The fish could be biting again, but be warned that they are off and on. If you want to try your hand at trolling you are going to want to be using ballyhoo, with the skirts if it is weedy. The reefs are ok, red snapper everywhere. There is some Mutton and Grouper depending on how far out you are going. One of our guys caught some nice Grouper and stuff on Sardines and Cigar Minnows.INSHORE – The main fish that have been bragged about the Fishin’ Shack are the Whiting, Pompano, Redfish, and Flounder. As always, Shrimp is great bait, and Clam works well too. If you want to go artificial they would recommend a Gotcha lure; and the white and orange, silver and yellow, have been really popular. Fish down at the jetties on the inlet side; however, if you are going specifically for Redfish you are going to want the surf side. Other than that the Flounder are on the inlets closer to the weed lines.
BAIT REPORT – There is bait around, make sure that you watch where the birds are, fish the flats, and the bridges. Once you find a pod, stick with them and try using live bait for some of the bigger fish.
