St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – Now that the Spring patterns have set in we aren’t really seeing any surprises or huge changes into this week. Redfish continue to be the most prominent fish in the area. They are feeding well and aren’t too picky about what they take. If you are able to bring some Mullet along, this is generally a good bet however Shrimp or similar artificial will work as well. Bigger fish can be caught towards St. Augustine. Generally we see Spotted Seatrout going hand in hand with many Redfish catches. Black Drum and Sheepshead are slowly heating up but they haven’t fully fired up just yet. Sheepshead are taking the usual baits as they hang out on structure. Anglers are also avoiding the Sharks that have been putting up an aggressive fight in the Atlantic Beach area. They are a lot of fun to fish for but can be annoying when they’re not the target of your bait, or should we say, their bait. Bluefish and Pompano are running the beach. Blues aren’t picky about what they take, you can throw anything from artificials and spoons to live bait. As Cobia move in following the rays anglers are fully embracing the Spring bite.

OFFSHORE – The offshore bite has been a bit hit or miss this week due to the recent wind and weather, which seems to be nothing new for anglers in this area. When you can make it offshore, rest assured you won’t have to go too far out. Dolphin have moved closer in and can be landed on the troll. Most anglers are focusing on the nearshore bottom bite as it is a bit more consistent. Limits of Sea Bass are easy catches along with a few bycatches of Cobia mixed in.

INSHORE – The Sheepshead bite is pretty good inshore. Under docks and bridges are the best place to find them. The Reds (Drum, Red) are around however there are more good sized Black Drum (Drum, Black) swimming inside. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are on the edge of shell bars. They are small but biting well. There are also Big Bluefish are in the river.

OFFSHORE – Red Snapper (Snapper, Red) are on the bottom but are catch and release. Cobia aren’t far from the beach. Vermillion (Snapper, Vermillion) are appearing in the middle grounds close to 100 feet. The numbers are consistent. Enormous Bluefish are swimming about 10 miles offshore and are up to 15 pounds. A few have been caught inshore in the river as well. Way out the Mahi (Dolphin) bite is on fire. Wahoo are still around and Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) are biting well at the ledge. Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) have been sighted during the day going after Ballyhoo on a fast troll.

St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – There has been a nice variety of fish swimming inshore this week, with the most prominent bite coming from Sheepshead and Black Drum. If you are heading to the jetties, beaches, rivers or reefs you will have no trouble hooking up to either of these fish as the numbers are outstanding from Fernandina to Palm Coast. The KBY reef in particular has produced well.
From the surf we are seeing Pompano and Whiting running towards Atlantic Beach. They are swimming shallow so your best bet is to stay inside the rocks to find them. Inshore, the Trout are making a scattered appearance and if you are looking to target them the last hour of the outgoing tide will be the key time to fish. Flounder are just beginning to show up in bigger sizes along the shorelines towards St. Augustine. It looks like Spring has a great fishing season in store for us!

OFFSHORE – The weather was finally nice enough for a few days offshore this week. A bit of residual wind is still hanging around however the fish are hungry and ready to bite. This past week anglers were doing really well on Wahoo offshore. The recent tournament in St. Augustine has produced good numbers while high speed trolling at about 20 knots or trolling Ballyhoo during the day.
The bottom bite has been a bit more consistent in terms of landing fish. Red Snapper are providing good catch and release action. Triggerfish are also swimming the bottom. A bit closer in, Cobia have also been landed as anglers jig them up off the bottom as the water isn’t warm enough to cast to the rays yet.

St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – Despite the unfavorable weather anglers in the area are still finding the typical, seasonal fish hanging around. When you can find a weather window there has been a surprisingly decent bite as Black Drum are really beginning to turn on. As usual, structure will be holding your best fish which is also good news as you can typically find some shelter from the wind around these spots. Creeks, jetties, holes, inlets, towers, bridges and the Sounds are going to be your key locations when targeting Drum from Fernandina to St. Augustine. Bait setups have been nothing new, and anything that has been successful so far this Winter will continue to produce into this week.
Mixed in with the Drum have been great catches of Sheepshead. You can find them in a lot of the same areas taking the same setups. Your typical Redfish and Trout have also been hooked into this week, however, the colder weather has set their early Spring bite back a bit. Although Reds are still in large schools, which means when you can hook onto one there are likely a few hanging around. Searching shallow mudflats that are holding heat will prove to be most successful. As usual Trout are swimming the rivers and creeks but if they are your main target you’ll have better luck heading to Nassau Sound.

OFFSHORE – We just can’t seem to catch a break in terms of weather this Spring. Mother nature has been teasing us with a few days of warm weather then hits us with yet another cold front. That being said, the nicer days have produced some Cobia this week. Anglers are jigging for them using either pink/white or chartreuse bucktails. Some anglers are adding a curly tail grub. To their setup for more success. The bite improves as we move South so if we can get some improved weather over the next few days we expect things to really fire up.

St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – Although we are eager to see the Spring bite heat up and lead into Summer, the transition period has been a bit tough. With the lack of cold weather, many fish hadn’t schooled up and are still fairly scattered at this point. Redfish and Trout in particular are spread out right from Fernandina to St. Augustine. Numbers of Trout are increasing as we move South however sizes are still small and time will need to be spent finding them. For similar reasons the bigger Sheepshead continue to swim offshore and haven’t moved into the creeks. It’s no surprise that if you are targeting them a Fiddler Crab or Dead Shrimp is the key to a good fish. While Sheepshead are staying outside, warm water temperatures are bringing in an early bite of Flounder in the St. Augustine area. Drum are following close behind and anglers are finding the most success targeting them using a half Blue Crab. Mullet are beginning to show up in creeks and rivers. They are still small however this is a promising sign of a good run in the Spring.

OFFSHORE – 2017 has been a tough go so far for offshore anglers. Weather conditions continue to keep boats inside, so it has been difficult to gauge a deep water bite when few have actually made it out. Short weather windows have allowed those heading out of St. Augustine to target Wahoo as they begin to heat up with the upcoming full moon. This is also just in time for a few local Wahoo tournaments. As usual, stick with your dark colored lures for the best bite on the troll. Dolphin and Tuna should pick up following some more ideal weather. Closer in, determined anglers may find decent sizes of Cobia. They are not consistent but are a good option if seas are too rough farther out. Anglers willing to head North towards Fernandina can find a decent Sea Bass bite without heading to far off.

St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – Jetties and nearshore bottom structure offered some Sheepshead anglers a decent bite while some Flounder started to move back in. Some of the jetties are also hold Bull Reds and Black Drum, there are also a lot of small Redfish around. If Redfish are what you’re after, head down to Palm Coast where they are readily taking anything from Topwater plugs to live bait during the falling tide. The warmer than normal temperatures appear to have put a damper on the Trout fishing for most anglers. Despite the lackluster Trout bite, you can still have a good day of river fishing thanks to the arrival of Flounder. Try fishing Mud Minnows or Gulp on a jighead for them.

OFFSHORE – Reports of successful offshore trips private boats were few and far between from this week. There were a few charters that found Wahoo, Dolphin and Tuna. All three species of fish were caught around 65 miles out. Hopefully next week will provide a few more opportunities to get out.

St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – One thing we heard over and over again from various Captains and Bait Shops was that a little time spent fishing jetties in the region should yield some really good catches of Black Drum. The Sheepshead bite has still been pretty good for Anglers working inshore structures.
Most of the bigger Seatrout reported this week were from creeks and rivers mainly South of Amelia Island and North of Palm Coast. As for lures, Slayer Paddle Tails or Down South Lures were working well for anglers throwing artificials.

OFFSHORE – Cobia fishing has been good for anglers on Florida’s North East Coast. They haven’t made their way in on the Rays yet but are doing well in depths from 90-120 feet. Gulf Stream anglers welcomed a few days where they are we able to get offshore and troll for both Wahoo and Blackfin Tuna using weighted lures or Cedar Plugs.
Bottom fishing for Black Sea Bass was fairly decent anywhere from 8-25 miles. The farther North you are in Florida, the better the Sea Bass.
Off of Atlantic Beach there were some good catches of Porgy, Amberjack and Bar Jack along with some Beeliners. You will probably do well concentrating on fishing 120-140 feet of water.

St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – Sheepshead have been a reliable catch from Fernandina down to just North of Palm Coast. The farther North you are the better the numbers and sizes have been. Nothing new to report as far as techniques and finding the fish goes. Stick to the usual inshore structures with anything from Crabs to small Shrimp.
Trout fishing in the region has been average. Small tidal creeks and rivers have been the best places to catch them. You should have no problem finding the odd, scattered Redfish while Trout fishing. It’s worth mentioning that the Redfish flats and popular spots in and around St. Augustine and Palm Coast will have heavy pressure do to the upcoming Florida Redfish Tournament.
Surf anglers will be offered up some opportunities to catch Whiting and some sporadic Bluefish. The beaches will be on and off from day to day so you may want to plan to move around if you find yourself on a slow bite.


OFFSHORE – The wind was definitely working against any of the boats trying to head offshore this week. Those who did make it out on the Northern reaches of the East coast were lucky if they were able to pull some Blackfin Tuna on the troll. It would have been a very good week to be a little further down the coast as anglers from Daytona and South were able to high speed troll for Wahoo at the stream when weather allowed passage offshore.

St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – Bull Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) have shown up on the beach this week. Redfish (Drum, Red) and Trout continue to bite. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), however, are a bit on the slow side. Black Drum (Drum, Black) are here and there while Sheepshead are still doing great on live Fiddler Crabs. You should be able to catch them on most inshore structures. St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Reds (Drum, Red) are mostly in the creeks this week. East Creek is especially good. Search farther back in the shallow water for the best bite. Frozen Mullet is the key bait to hook them. In the salt runs we are seeing a few Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) turning up. Sheepshead are holding up on the docks taking Fiddler Crabs. Reds are most prominent overall. The beach is slow. A few Bluefish have been hooked along with scattered Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). OFFSHORE – The Cobia are out in about 100 ft of water. Anglers are throwing Eels with 6-8 in Grub Tails on a jighead. Bucktails with a strip of Squid is also productive. They are producing the best bite for offshore fishermen this week. Anglers are picking up Ballyhoo to target Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) on the troll as well.

St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – Lots of Drum (Drum, Black) are being caught in the holes in the creeks. Big Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) have shown up on the beach. They are up to 3 lbs on both Fishbites and Shrimp. Big Redfish (Drum, Red) over 20 lbs are also being caught on the beach. Trout are biting but are smaller this week. Sheepshead are doing well on structure such as rocks and docks. OFFSHORE – Cobia have been caught offshore. They are out even as far as the ledge. The water is still warm. Wahoo and Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) have also been hooked. Trolling Ballyhoo a little faster will work for the Wahoo.

INSHORE – The beaches have been fishing well this week. The piers are slow. The main bite is in the intracoastal waterway. Moultrie Creek is on fire. We are seeing mostly Reds (Drum, Red) and they are in big sizes. The quality and quantity are great. Sheepshead are running and taking live Fiddler Crabs. You can find them on the jetties. St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – We are still seeing some Sheepshead turning up on the jetties during the low tide. Anglers are using Fiddler Crabs or dead Shrimp. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) have also turned up this week along with Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) on the incoming tide. Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) are steady on the beach this week. They are bigger fish and the Bull Whiting have come in. They prefer fresh, dead Shrimp. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have also been caught. OFFSHORE – Cobia are swimming the nearshore. They are running pretty thick for anglers jigging. Easy limits have been caught. Fish in roughly 100 ft of water for the better sizes. This is about 20 miles out. When anglers are able to get out to the stream they are trolling for Wahoo.

BAIT REPORT – Sand Fleas are right on the beach. Smaller Mullet can also be found. Bigger Roe Mullet are on the beach.

St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – The inshore anglers are really tearing up the Sheepshead this week. You can find these fish on most of the pilings. The Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are also biting well. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are still turning up in great numbers. Search towards the North river during low tide for Trout. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have slowed down on the beach. OFFSHORE – We have been hitting a good amount of Cobia this week. 12-15 miles out is where we are finding most of our fish. Jigging with live bait has been the most productive technique. St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – The bite has been great in this area, especially off the pier for Reds (Drum, Red). The Trout bite has been great. They are preferring Mud Minnows this week. Fish the middle of the outgoing tide in the creeks. The Flounder (Flounder, Southern) have been a bit slow however Drum (Drum, Black) and Sheepshead are doing well on structure. They are taking Fiddler Crabs at Matanzas Inlet early in the morning. Fish right around daylight for the best bite. Redfish and Black Drum are scattered around the bridges. During the low tide they are coming out of the creek and moving back in during the high tides. Smaller Reds are farther into the creeks while the bigger sizes are in and towards the intracoastal. From the beach anglers can find Whiting (Kingfish, Southern), Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and a few Bluefish. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – Roughly 18 miles off the beach the Jacks (Jack, Amberjack Greater) and Beeliners (Snapper, Vermillion) are fired up. Jacks are taking mostly live baits such as Grunts. Red Snapper (Snapper, Red) are wide open out there, you just can’t keep them. A few Cobia are being caught along with some Bonito (Bonito, Little Tunny). St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – There are lots of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Drum (Drum, Black) around the creek mouths. Fish them when there is moving water. Gulp has been a good artificial this week. White 5 inch swimming Mullet patterns are the most productive. If you have to pick a tide, higher tide is your best time to fish. Fishing has been alright on the incoming.

OFFSHORE – Cobia are on the wrecks when anglers can get out. Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) and Wahoo are caught anywhere from 100 ft of water out to 21 miles. Troll feathers to hook the Tuna. Cedar Plugs are better for the Wahoo. Dolphin are scattered.

St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) have been great during the falling tide around the main part of the river. Soft plastics or live Shrimp have been hot baits this week. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – Bottom fishing is great. Cobia are showing up on the wrecks. Wahoo and a few Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) can be caught high speed trolling father out. Cedar plugs are working well behind the boat for Tuna and Wahoo.

St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Redfish (Drum, Red) are biting well off the beach and the river. On the beach they are mostly oversized from 30-40 inches. Some have been caught off of the pier and the inlet from the bridge. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are running well. They are hitting the Clams and Fishbites in Clam or Sand Flea flavor. A few Bluefish have shown up as well. Sheepshead have been found on structure. They are around 2-4 lbs taking Fiddler Crabs. Everyone is staying inshore for the most part this week. INSHORE – The fishing has been really good the past while. There are plenty of Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) in the river however most are small. St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – Lots of Redfish (Drum, Red) are biting into this week. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are doing well. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are picking up. There are good numbers but they are small. Most are between 12-14 inches caught on Gulp, Bull Minnows or Mullet. They are swimming the creeks for the most part. Bigger fish are out towards the inlet. It’s a bit windier out there. The last of the outgoing and first of the incoming is the best time to target them. Some Flounder are up to 17 inches. Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Drum (Drum, Black) are biting from the beach. OFFSHORE – It’s been difficult to get out this week. When we can make it out the fishing has been decent. The Vermillion (Snapper, Vermillion) are biting again along with Jacks (Jack, Amberjack Greater). Live Squid on a double rig is the best bait for them. There haven’t been signs of Cobia just yet. INSHORE – The fishing is good for Redfish (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), especially with the cooler temperatures. They are swimming the intracoastal. Inshore is the most active place to fish. Sheepshead are beginning to pick up well. They are around the pilings and bridges. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) continue to bite into this week. OFFSHORE – When anglers are able to hit the water there are still some good fish to be caught. Permit fishing is typically good year round as long as you are aware of what you can keep. Cobia should be moving through into November.

INSHORE – There are a lot of Rat Reds (Drum, Red) in the intracoastal this week. There are quite a few Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) are chasing the Mullet. The beach is producing a few Drum (Drum, Black). The pier just opened back up but we haven’t heard any news from it just yet. We will likely see Black Drum and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – Everything is biting this week! There is a great Redfish (Drum, Red) bite on the outgoing tide. Most fish are hammering the Mullet as they run through. Tarpon are also inshore. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are great in the morning on topwaters inside. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are doing well inside too as they start getting bigger. OFFSHORE – There haven’t been a lot of reports from outside as there hasn’t been much on the troll. Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black), Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) and Red Snapper (Snapper, Red) are on the bottom from 9 miles out. Keep in mind the Red Snapper are closed. Mangroves are usually out a bit farther around 21 miles for the good sizes. Anglers are live baiting them or using Squid.

INSHORE – Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) are biting off the beach this week. More Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are being caught. With all the Finger Mullet running there are tons of Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) running the Vilano Wall as well as the inlets and the beach. Redfish (Drum, Red) are steady in the river and creeks. Fish the cooler, incoming tide early in the morning. They are following the Mullet as well. You can use Mullet as live bait or alternatively similar soft plastics such as a Vudu Swimming Mullet. INSHORE – There are lots of Tarpon, Ladyfish and Redfish (Drum, Red) this week. They are chasing the Mullet on the inside. It has been best to head out early in the morning or late into the evening. INSHORE – The fishing has been slow so far this week. Anglers are finding some large Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) around the bridges and jetties this week. There are also quite a few Redfish (Drum, Red) being caught on live Shrimp or Finger Mullet around the same areas. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) is hanging out on docks, bridges and grass. Any structures will be holding them. Mud Minnows are great but difficult to find so Slayer Paddle Tails are a great alternative. The weather has been too tough for most surf anglers. INSHORE – Lots of Tarpon are showing up inshore this week. They are running around the jetties so far. It’s a bit windy on the beach this week. They are chasing Mullet. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are small, up to 6 lbs on the inside. Redfish (Drum, Red) are doing okay. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are swimming with them. INSHORE – Redfish (Drum, Red) and Flounder (Flounder, Southern) have been good in the intracoastal. The most popular has been the Flounder. Anglers are throwing Shrimp, live Mullet or Gulp Shrimp, Topwater plugs and Mirrolures for the Reds. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) can be caught on these in the morning as well. The morning bite is by far the best. Tarpon has been great on the beach. They are taking live Mullet or Pogies. OFFSHORE – This time of year the Kingfish (Mackerel, King) are on the local wrecks with Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) and Barracuda (Barracuda, Great). Red Snapper (Snapper, Red) are very thick and the Mango (Snapper, Gray) bite has been hot over the full moon in 21 ft. Reports of Dolphin have been quiet.

INSHORE – The Black Drum (Drum, Black) picked up off the surf this week. Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) are in the same area. They are biting all day, especially during the incoming tide. There are still a few Tarpon right off the beach as well. Not much has come in from the inshore other than Flounder (Flounder, Southern). There are plenty of them to catch. INSHORE – The Redfish bite is still good in the intracoastal this week. Big Trout are biting in the morning and the evening. Anglers are fishing popping corks or Mud Minnows. Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) are biting all day long. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are small but plentiful. They are inside as well. Anglers are jigging gulp or using Slayers in white or chartreuse to catch them. The Tarpon are biting within 2 miles of the beach as well as the bridges and inlets. They are running the pogies right up on the beach this week. Kings (Mackerel, King) are holding up in the deeper water within a mile of the beach in 40-50 ft. INSHORE – Anglers are getting Tarpon right off the surf this week. They are only a couple hundred yards out following the Pogies. Most anglers from the surf aren’t able to reach them so the boats are doing well. Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) are in the surf or just outside on fresh dead Shrimp and fishbites. A lot of small Sharks (Shark, Bull & Shark, Blacktip). Flounder (Flounder, Southern) is still the hot bite that can be gigged at night or caught on Mud Minnows. There hasn’t been many reports on Reds (Drum, Red). There are some Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) that can be caught around the lights at night on live bait. INSHORE – It’s hot out there this week! There have been good reports for Flounder (Flounder Southern) on Mud Minnows up in the creeks. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have also come up on bait that looks like Glass Minnows such as small MirrOlures or DOA baits. Search the docks to find the good numbers, especially at night. Most of the Reds (Drum, Red) are small or over slot. On the beach the Tarpon have moved in. They can be caught right off the surf. Throw a live Mullet to hook them. Tarpon are also under the bridges downtown. You can see them coming out of the water. Avid Anglers now carry Vudu Mullet! It’s definitely a hot buy so stop in an stock up! OFFSHORE – Anglers are going out to the ledge at the gulf stream and catching Wahoo around 60 lbs. It’s not typically Wahoo time but they are swimming. There have been no reports of Dolphin yet. Anglers are also bottom fishing and catching lots of Red Snapper (Snapper, Red) which are closed.

St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – It’s really hot and there are a lot of small Flounder (Flounder, Southern) and Redfish (Drum, Red) if you can find them. 3 inch Gulp with Chartreuse tail or live Finger Mullet are best for Flounder. Oversized Redfish are following Shrimp in the St. John’s. Most are small and not of size however there are plenty of them. Off the beach we are seeing Bonnetheads (Shark, Bonnethead), Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and a few Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). Bonnetheads are the hottest.

OFFSHORE – Within 10 miles offshore things are very scattered. Anglers are targeting Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) and Red Snapper (Snapper, Red). Most of the big Mackerel (Mackerel, King) are way off. There are tons of Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) at the ledge.

BAIT REPORT – A lot of small Mullet are running inside. The bigger sizes are in the surf. Shrimp are in the St. John’s however they are small.

INSHORE – Lots of Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are showing up this week. Mullet, mud Minnows or Gulp has been productive. We are also finding Reds (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) in the mornings and evenings. They have been steady so far. There are also as many Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) as you can catch on the inside. Anything topwater will catch them. Quite a few Kings (Mackerel, King) are on the beach and closer wrecks. OFFSHORE – Farther out the Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) have been caught up to 12 lbs. Cobia and Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) have been swimming the wrecks along with Triggerfish (Triggerfish, Gray).

INSHORE – It’s been a little slower this week. The last few days anglers haven’t had much action offshore so the main focus is inshore. A few Black Drum (Drum, Black) are coming off the pier and the beach. The Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have not quite heated up but there are some keepers. Some Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) have shown up as well. The Flounder (Flounder, Southern) have the best bite this week. They are in the intracoastal on Mud Minnows. When you can’t find them, Slayer Paddle Tails or cast netting Mullet has worked. Quite a few smaller Reds (Drum, Red) have come in on larger Mullet. INSHORE – Fishing has been pretty decent this week. Anglers are tearing up the Flounder (Flounder, Southern). They are catching bigger ones on Mud Minnows with the creeks being the best place to target them. Redfish (Drum, Red) are doing well also using more live Shrimp than anything. A lot of anglers are catching Pompano (Pompano, Florida) off the beach. Off the beach there are some Kings (Mackerel, King) being caught in less than 40 ft. INSHORE – Some Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Sharks (Shark, Blacktip & Shark, Bonnethead) have been swimming the beach. Redfish (Drum, Red) are hot on the inside. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are great in the morning. The sizes are big. This is typical of the season. Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) are everywhere. The Tarpon are early but hitting well.

OFFSHORE – Kingfish (Mackerel, King) are the main bite this week. They are on 9 mile South or 9 mile North. There are some on the beach but they are better offshore. There is still some Dolphin being caught quite a ways out. They were previously closer in at the 9 mile reef but have since moved out.

INSHORE – On the beach, we are seeing a lot of Jacks (Jack, Crevalle), Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Bluefish. The Cobia are on the wrecks just off the beach. The Mullet that have started pushing in have been bringing the Reds (Drum, Red) and Bluefish inside with them. You can’t go wrong on Reds and Blues if you’re throwing Mullet.

OFFSHORE – There’s even been a couple of Wahoo that have come in the 9 mile range although most of the action is still out towards the stream. Be sure to check out the app’s GPS hotspots for more numbers to fish.

BAIT REPORT – There was quite a few Menhaden around the other day but they left when the wind changed. The Mullet have started being all over the rivers.

INSHORE – During high tide when the water is a bit rough we are seeing the typical Reds (Drum, Red), Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) that are just starting. They are about 12 inches. We expect this to continue into the weekend and to see some productive fish during more ideal fishing conditions.

OFFSHORE – Mahi (Dolphin) are chasing very large Mullet. There are some big Stingrays (Stingray, Atlantic) swimming this week. Lane Snapper (Snapper, Lane) are hitting as well. They are coming off the reefs.

INSHORE – Big Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are hitting well in the morning and afternoon. Topwater are working best. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are doing well, not really big yet but up to 7 lbs. The inlet docks seem to be the best place to find them. Smaller sizes are up the creeks. The Redfish (Drum, Red) bite is fair so far. The moving tide is the best time to fish. They will start migrating into the intracoastal soon but are holding up in the holes in the creek as of now. Finger Mullet or Gulp are working best.

OFFSHORE – Cobia are still on the rays and wrecks. Kings (Mackerel, King) are out around 9 miles. They are fairly small but there are some larger sizes sneaking in as close as the beach. Lots of Snapper (Snapper, Red) are hitting and a few Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red) are caught farther out. Mahi (Dolphin) continue to run in the deep water this week. The big ones are out at 200-500 ft. Wahoo are still making an appearance but you will have to put some time in to find them. High speed trolling has been the most productive.

INSHORE – Drum (Drum, Black) are coming off the pier this week and they are thick so far. Sea Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) are both swimming as well. They are taking fresh dead Shrimp or live Shrimp on a cork. Let it float with the current. Cobia have slowed on the beach since the water temperature has dropped. Most have moved further out. INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are hitting topwaters in the early morning and the bite is pretty productive. The Reds (Drum, Red) are being caught on soft plastics. The Snook (Snook, Common) are also turning up on white paddle tail grubs. Cobia can also be caught right off the beach, but they are a bit farther South.

OFFSHORE – Mahi (Dolphin) are hitting well in 180-200 ft of water this week. Cobia can still be caught from the bottom on the wrecks. Anglers are jigging them up. Things are starting to heat up.

OFFSHORE – Anglers are getting tons of Mahi without any problems so far this week. They are being caught all day and they are thick. They are in roughly 300-400 ft of water at 45 miles. Anglers are pulling naked or skirted Ballyhoo to get them. Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) are also running. There are a few scattered Wahoo mixed in as well.

INSHORE – There are quite a few Drum (Drum, Black) in the surf this week. They are up to 43 inches on fresh dead Shrimp. Mixed in are some small Pompano (Pompano, Florida). INSHORE – Wahoo are in super close. You won’t need a bigger boat to hook them this week. Anglers are high speed trolling to hook them. The sizes are pretty good as well. The Sheepshead are on their way out. The Redfish (Drum, Red) are swarming the intracoastal bridges. Mullet are working well in this area. Drum (Drum, Black) are moving back to the State Park. There is no bait in the water so anything you throw will work. From the surf Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are hitting Clams and Shrimp.

St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – Redfish (Drum, Red), Flounder (Flounder, Southern) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are continuing to do well again this week. This is typical of the area and season though. The early morning bite on the outgoing tide has provided the best bite. Gulp or Mud Minnows have been the best bait to reel them in. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) have shown up along the beach. We expect this bite to continue into the weekend.

OFFSHORE – A few Cobia have shown up on the closer wrecks around 9 miles. This is roughly 90-100 ft of water. We expect them to move to the beach within the next two weeks as the water warms up.

INSHORE – Reds (Drum, Red) are doing really well this week, tons of large sizes are being caught especially on the falling tide. Live Shrimp and gulp are the best way to hook them. This should pick up when the water warms up.

INSHORE – Reds (Drum, Red) are doing well this week. The incoming and high tide have produced well on the grass flats. Anglers are using live Shrimp or Mullet if they can find them. Drum, Black, are also biting well. Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) are biting consistently in the creek however they are small so far. Small soft plastics in chartreuse/white such as gulp will do well.

OFFSHORE – The Wahoo have been hot when anglers can get out. They are roughly 40 miles out and the highspeed troll has been the best bet to hook them.

St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – There are some Reds (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) despite the cool water. If you get out before the sun you can find the Trout near the topwater on Shrimp and popping corks. There are tons of Bluefish in the river this week. They are plentiful and the sizes are great. Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) have been decent. They are not abundant but an incoming tide will produce a few good sizes on the sand bars and beaches. Shrimp is usually the best bet to hook them. Book your Charter early as opportunities are going fast!

OFFSHORE – The wind has kept a lot of anglers inside as of late. The fronts have also made fishing unfavorable so far. Few boats have gone out however they are reporting Wahoo at 135 ft along with some Tuna, Blackfin. Snapper, Red are plentiful and anglers are catching them as close as 6 miles off the beach. Bottom fishing has been outstanding and the Grouper have been hot while catch and releasing.

INSHORE – The beach is producing a great Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) bite so far this week. The water is still pretty cold so we are only seeing a small Bluefish run so far. Redfish (Drum, Red) are swimming the shallow water and sticking to the flats and grass beds. There are plenty of them and the mid afternoon bite has been the most productive. The sizes are great and a lot anglers are targeting them when they can get into the shallower water.

OFFSHORE – In the deeper water we are seeing a few Wahoo farther out. From 10-15 miles out we there are some Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) as well. The wrecks are holding some Snapper, Red however you cannot keep them at this time.

INSHORE – There have been some Redfish (Drum, Red) caught on gulp Shrimp and Shads. They are pretty good sizes so far and the numbers are consistently great. Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf), Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Drum (Drum, Black) are also swimming this area. They are stacked up in the creeks and are best caught on the extremely low tide.

OFFSHORE – The all day trip yesterday did well on Cobia, and Snapper (Snapper, Vermillion & Snapper, Red) as well as Grunts and Porgy. Anglers are throwing live Mullet and finding it to be the best bait so far this week. They are hard to come by but are running. Keep in mind that Red Snapper is closed.

INSHORE – There are Sheepshead being found on live Fiddler Crabs. They are swimming over structure and turning up in consistently decent sizes. There are a few Reds (Drum, Red) hiding in holes since the water has become cooler. There is no preferred time to fish however the incoming tide has provided the better bite this week.

OFFSHORE – There is a great Wahoo bite in the area lately from 21 bottom to the ledge. Often times live Ballyhoo on the troll is the best way to hook them. There are also a few Dolphin turning up along with some Tuna, Blackfin. Tons of Cobia have been swimming in roughly 100 ft mixed with Triggerfish, Gray. There are also reports of Snapper, Vermillion turning up in decent sizes.

INSHORE – The recent fronts have made the fishing conditions extremely unfavorable for anglers this week. Most have stayed inside however we expect to see a continued Red (Drum, Red), Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Sheepshead bite once things clear up. INSHORE – The cold front has been great for this area clearing up the waters. The outgoing tide has produced some great sizes of Reds (Drum, Red) from mid to upper slot sized. They are eating just about anything this week however preferring artificials. Soft plastic paddle tails or gold spoons are very effective. They are eating it all just the same. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are still around. They have moved into the creeks and deep holes. The moving water is the best time to fish however incoming or outgoing tide doesn’t seem to matter. INSHORE – The inshore has been on fire for anglers throwing artificials this week. Redfish (Drum, Red), Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) are all loving gulp Shrimp on jigs. This has been extremely productive so far.

OFFSHORE – Anglers don’t have to head too far out this week to catch some fish. There is still a lot hanging around as the water has not cooled down much yet. There have been reports of Cobia, Barracuda, Great and Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater). There are also tons of Snapper, Vermillion a bit deeper. They will eat just about anything including Squid on a hook while all the other fish are loving live Pinfish. They are all holding up on the nearshore reefs so far this week. We suggest you get out while you can before the next cold snap sets in and the fish look for warmer water.

INSHORE – The Sheepshead bite has been fantastic this week. They are extremely good around the jetties and bridges where anglers are catching their limits on Fiddler Crabs, to no surprise. There are also some Drum, Black swimming up the beach. They have been preferring fresh Shrimp. Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) have been hitting the same bait but are far more sporadic. A few reports of Reds (Drum, Red) have turned up this week however they are spotty. Anglers that are reeling them in are using paddle tails this week. INSHORE – There has been a solid mix of different fish swimming the inshore this week. The Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) have been hitting pretty good, especially last weekend. Anglers were catching them out of the creeks on live Shrimp Some have been weighed in up to almost 9 lbs. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have been on fire lately as well. Local charters are catching up to 100 a day in smaller sizes. The Salt Run and farther up in the shallower water has been the best area to find them. The Sheepshead bite has also turned on this week, specifically for Live Fiddler Crabs. Pilings on the Vilano bridge are providing some great sizes. Anglers are still catching Tarpon in the nearshore up to 125 lbs! The water is still fairly warm so they have not yet moved out.

OFFSHORE – The boats are just starting to get back out now that the recent spurt of bad weather has seemed to pass. The ocean has finally calmed down this week and boats and charters have headed out today. There have been no reports yet however anglers hitting the water this weekend can always check out our Tips feature which provides additional information and suggestions to help improve the catch.

BAIT REPORT – Live baiters are catching small Mullet in the shallow pockets. The more open water is pretty stirred up so they can be difficult to find.

INSHORE – The drop in water temperature has produced a very solid Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite this week. The top of the outgoing tide around the deep drop offs and points has been the most effective spot. Jigheads across the bottom is the best setup. Reds (Drum, Red) and Drum (Drum, Black) are hiding along the bottom. Anglers should fish them during the high tide along the grass lines and shell flats for the upper slot Reds. Topwater plugs, plastics and Live Mullet are producing well as there is absolutely tons of Mullet. Fish the bait and the late tide.

St Augustine Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is a good bite just about everywhere inshore this week. The Sheepshead are on fire and loving Fiddler Crabs. They are all over the place and especially around the bridges and docks. Nice sized Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) have been biting as well in the same areas. The closer anglers go towards the inlets the bigger the Flounder. Gulp in white 5 inch is the best bet on a chartreuse jig head. Pompano has been doing extremely well along the beaches when anglers can find some clean water and are using Sand fleas. OFFSHORE – The bite offshore has been consistent this week, weather permitting. Anglers who head out can expect a few different species. The Mahi (Dolphin) bite has been solid along with Tuna, Blackfin and Wahoo. Everyone who makes it out has seemed to catch at least one Billfish – Sailfish as well. INSHORE – Kingfish, Southern are swimming in this area with a pretty solid bite. There are also some smaller Pompano, Florida mostly chasing Shrimp but will hit fresh clams or sand fleas. Redfish (Drum, Red) are still chasing dead Shrimp or similar artificials. They are turning up in various sizes. Sheepshead are coming in weighing in from 2-4 lbs on fiddler crabs. OFFSHORE – The deep waters are safe from anglers lately as conditions have been way too rough to get out on the water. No one has been taking on the conditions this week as and there have been no reports at this time so we are anxiously awaiting improved weather. Conditions are expected to yield similar results after the storm passes.

INSHORE – There has been quite a bit of action inshore recently. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) is biting off the beach using frozen clams. Sand fleas would work as well however they have been a challenge to find. Whiting (Kingfish, Gulf & Kingfish, Southern) have begun to show up as well however they are fairly spotty but expected to increase. Flounder are wide open and plentiful anglers can expect to catch at least one this weekend. Fishermen are amping up to start catching Sheepshead on fiddler crabs now that the season is beginning to pick up. This weekend should bring some great fishing as the weather clears up and the fish are hungry.

BAIT REPORT – Mullet is now beginning to slow down and Blue Crab is in demand. Crab traps are flying off the shelves as buyers want to use them as bait…but also as a tasty dinner. Off docks and state parks are the best places to set your traps for the most successful results.

OFFSHORE – The wind and rain have produced challenging conditions for anglers offshore this week. So far there are currently no reports however if you find a break in the weather this weekend you can always rely on our Tips section by tapping the fish of your choice and checking out suggestions and ‘how to’s that may give you a hand on the water.

INSHORE – Similar to offshore, the beaches have been pretty rough. Luckily for anglers who are willing to brave the conditions Pompano and Black Drum have still been providing a pretty good bite. For some relief, be sure to head over to the bridges, docks and city structures where you will find Flounder in the rivers. They’re hitting well on Finger Mullet and Mud Minnows. These areas might even provide some shelter from the wind and rain. The Valongo area has also seen some Tarpon if you’re using Live Mullet as well. For anyone looking to get out this weekend wait for the incoming tide where you can expect the best results.

BAIT REPORT – Mullet have been running really well. The past few weeks they have been pretty small but they’re gaining size this week. These are perfect for the larger Tarpon. OFFSHORE – Vermillion Snapper are getting hooked at 12 miles out. Check around the reefs for the Snapper. There are some Cobia in the same range as the Vermillion. To hook a Cobia drop rigs work great. Closer to shore anglers are using drop rigs with 4 oz weights and 30 to 40 miles they are using 8oz.

INSHORE – Right off the beach the Mullet run is thick. There are Tarpon being caught right off the beach. The Anglers in a boat off the beach are dropping down their Finger Mullet and catching some big Redfish. The gulp bait, the slayer, and jigheads with their bait have been working great for artificials. Watch out, there are a lot of Jacks out there right now and the anglers are having some problems with the Jacks taking the bait. Unscented lures are where it’s at to avoid losing your bait to Jacks. A lot of the anglers in this area like to fish the incoming tides. Catching Kingfish off the beach too.

OFFSHORE – Kingfish is good on the wrecks, and if you plan on bottom fishing bait with Mullet or Sardines. You can also try jigging up a baited Sabiki with cut Squid. Use a nice and heavy weight like an 8 or 6 oz. 9 mile wreck in about 65-70 feet of water is the closest place that fishing is going to be good, and further out from there it gets better. 21 mile reed is the best bet to fish right now, in about 100-120 feet of water, but the run to get there is approximately 40 miles.

INSHORE – The best thing in the water right now is the Flounder. The bite is really hot and you can catch Flounder in a bunch of different sizes. The Mangrove Snapper are coming in and are only going to get better and better in the intercostal. Nice Mangrove Snapper are already being caught along the docks and piers. These two fish are definitely going to be your best eating right now. The Mangroves bite best on cut bait, so try cutting up Finger Mullet. Finger Mullet will also work nicely for the Flounder. There are Tarpon around right now if you are looking for bigger game, they are crashing through the Pogy and Mullet schools.

BAIT REPORT – Mullet and Pogy schools are around and you should have no problem catching them. There are also Shrimp in the intercostal.

St Augustine & Palm Coast Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The wrecks have been fishing quite well for Cobia and Amberjack as the water has been cooling down. For something artificial, the guys at Oldest City Bait and Tackle suggest trying an 8 inch white curly tailed grub with a 4 to 8 oz jig head depending on your line strength. For live bait, they say that right now you can’t go wrong with squid.

INSHORE – The Flounder have been biting well along with Redfish in the backwater and bays. The Redfish have been pretty indiscriminate but, when targeting Flounder you’ll want to throw Mullet. Flounder can also be hooked by tossing a rootbeer or pearl colored Gulp bait on a jig head. Kingfish are being caught off the beaches and they’ll hit Sardines or if you’re out slow trolling a Pogie you can get into them as well.

BAIT REPORT – The Finger Mullet are running really well around the beaches and inlets. There are some Pogies out there, too. The intercoastal stuff are absolutely loaded with bait sized shrimp for throwing cast nets to.

OFFSHORE – Captain Christ at Palm Coast fishing has been catching some decent Mingos and Amberjacks. The Amberjacks are about 9 miles out on the reef. Fishing has started to warm up now that we are post-thermocline. Most people use Cigar Minnows and Spanish Sardines for the Amberjacks.

INSHORE – In the nearshore range the Tarpon are coming back. Fishing looks like it is definitely going to pick up. Last week we had those really high tides, now wea re into the negative low tide, which is Captain Chris’ favorite time to go fishing because it concentrates the fish. Here is what you do for the Redfish, you get up to the flats and wait for the tide to drop then find the deeper troughs and pools that they are going to fall into and throw down some line. It’s literally shooting fish in a barrel. All the guides today landed 10-12 Redfish doing the last of the outgoing.

BAIT REPORT – There is bait around, a good mixture of Mullet, Shrimp, and Menhaden in the river.

The blue and white bucktails are working well on the Cobia and Amberjacks as well. As for bottom fishing, there are lots of Triggerfish, Black Seabass, Vermilion Snapper, and Red Snapper (surprise). Cut bait or squid is always going to be best for bottom fishing, but you might opt to fish elsewhere because of the Red Snapper regulations.

INSHORE – Candice at Oldest City Bait & Tackle was telling me about the Flounder that were biting around the docks and bridges. Really they are on top of any structure, which is great because they are A) fun game, and B) delicious. Try fishing for them with Gulp baits with curly tails. Redfish are in the deeper holes in the river. If you are going to stay within 3-4 miles you can sight fish for Cobia off the beaches, and troll the same area for Kings.

BAIT REPORT – Some bait fish around, gotta find them of course. Mostly Pogies and Sardines.

OFFSHORE – The bottom fish are plentiful right now. There has been reports of Vermillion Snapper and other Snapper coming close inshore. The low tide has also been extremely low, and will take you out further than normal – about 3 miles. The water has been cold along the bottom, and that has really slowed bottom fishing. However, the fish are definitely down there. Vermillion Snapper are abundant and so are the Red Snapper but you have to throw them back. Triggerfish, Cobia, and Amberjack are all around, you just have to draw them out. They prefer Squid and Sardines, and if you are going way offshore you might be able to sabiki up some live bait. Take a few heavier jigs for the Cobia and Amberjacks. If you are going to go artificial, Amberjack like blue and white, but the Cobia aren’t nearly as picky and will hit blue and white, yellow, chartreuse, you name it.

INSHORE – Right now there is an abundance of Whiting and they are about 18 inches on average. There are also a few Pompano around. Tons of sharks between the Matanzas River and the 206. All of the Redfish around are barely slot, falling at the high end of the limit. Most are around 26-28 inches. Fresh dead shrimp and finger Mullet are both great baits for whatever you are looking to catch. If you are going to fish with an artificial lure you want to go with a small topwater plug an hour before or after any tide.

BAIT REPORT – Bait is tough right now. There are no finger Mullet and the Pogies have been pushed out of the area. The offshore guys especially are having a hard time finding bait. It is out there, though, and if you find some, it is worth your time to sabiki it up.

OFFSHORE – The troll is kind of slow right now. There are some Kingfish and Cobia at 9 mile. Dolphin has slowed way down and so has the Wahoo. Bottom fishing is also kind of frustrating because the Snapper get in your way out there. There has been one or two pretty good Grouper caught but the thermocline that is rolling through right now has turned the bottom fishing off, and the full moon didn’t help either. There are Triggerfish and Vermillion Snappers and Sea Bass out there, the hard part is getting to them because they like the same places as the fish you can’t keep. Smart fish.

INSHORE – There was a Tournament last Saturday where a 6 pound Flounder, 6 pound Trout, and 6.9 pound Redfish won their respective classes. The fishing community is pretty split 50/50 right now into those who swear by artificials, and those who are wrong. Us real bait people like to chunk bait – whatever we can get our hands on be it Mud Minnows, Mullet, live Shrimp, small Pogies etc. The other camp is a big fan of the Gulp Shrimp (white with a chartreuse tail) and the red and gold flake Slayer does work good on a jig head. Probably just as good as real bait – but you didn’t hear that from me. The Trout that won was caught on a Skitterwalk early in the morning. Topwater plugs have also been really good in the morning.

BAIT REPORT – Lots of mullet up in the creek. Good numbers of Mud Minnows and live Shrimp with small Pogies mixed in.

OFFSHORE- If you’re heading out offshore there is lots to catch. If you head out to around 9 miles there have been lots of Cobia on the wrecks. There are also some Kingfish out there. If you want to bottom fish try dropping some squid or sardines down and you should find some Red Snapper and Vermillion Snapper as well as some Triggerfish and Sea Bass.

INSHORE-  Around the bridges, piers, docks and Oyster beds there are tons of Flounder. If you can stick to structure you’ll be good. The Redfish are mostly hanging out around the mouth of the creek. Both of these fish are getting a good bite on live Shrimp and Mudminnows. If you’d rather go artificial try Gulp or Stinky Fingers on a jig head.

BAIT-  There are some mud minnow and sardines around.

OFFSHORE – Fishing has been pretty good with the recent high pressure system. A lot of people are having good luck with bottom fishing. There are a lot of Grouper out there. There is also the occasional Cobia and Kingfish. There are also some Snapper but remember to throw them back because they are not in season.

INSHORE – There are Redfish from 206 down to watermarker 75. They are biting well when you drop down Mud Minnows and Shrimp. There are also Flounder down behind Fort Matanzas. When you can fish the beginning of the outgoing tide. Behind the Fort is sand with a little grass which makes for some good fishing.

BAIT REPORT – If you know where to look you should find lots of bait around.

OFFSHORE – Offshore the Pelagic have slowed down. The Tunas, Wahoo and Mahi Mahi are also slower, but around. Sailfish and Blue Marlin also around but still slow. Water temperature has been getting too warm for some of these fish. Try concentrating on bottom fishing around the reef. There you’ll find Mangrove, Vermillion Snapper, Gag, Amberjack, Cobia and grey Trigger Fish. Some good ideas for bait include cut Boston Mackerel or Squid, but live Grunts and Spanish Sardines are also good. When he is fishing for Marlin, Captain Robert Johnson of Jodie Lynn Sportfishing Charters uses lures in blue and white, or purple and black. For Tuna he tends to use cedar plugs. 80 feet – 180 feet is his sweet spot.

INSHORE – In the morning on the last and first of the incoming tides are the best time to find Redfish, Flounder, Spotted Trout, and some Black Drum. Try using live Shrimp on a jig head. If you don’t have any live bait some of the Gulp baits work too. Looking for Oyster bars and docks and structure will help you find the fish.

BAIT REPORT – There is a lot of bait around. You’ll find Mullet and Mud Minnows in the river. The Menhaden have moved inshore to the beach and the river. Scads and Cigar Minnows are around the nearshore reef about 12 miles out.

OFFSHORE – The Kingfish are beginning to arrive offshore. There are Cobia on the wrecks and lots of Snappers which you can’t keep. Cobia are loving Cigar Minnows and are being found anywhere from 20-40 miles out. Bottom fish the wrecks and you’ll be sure to find lots of Sea Bass.

INSHORE – As mentioned last week, the bite is still good for Flounder, Reds, and Trout. Gulp bait and Shrimp have been very effective bite is good for Flounder and Reds and Trout. For these fish try using plugs and Gulp Shrimp or put a swimming Mullet on a jig head.

BAIT REPORT -There are lots of mullet and croaker to be found inshore.

OFFSHORE – The main fish being targeted right now are the Snapper, Sea Bass, Amberjack, Cobia, Triggerfish, and Pogeys. In the words of Captain Daryl over at Sea Love Charters there is a little bit of everything. He likes to use squid and cut bait. There is really only a few months of the year that you can troll effectively in St. Augustine and he prefers to perfect the art of bottom fishing. He has 45 different spots that he likes to fish, but in general you are going to want to fish reefs, wrecks, drop-offs, and where the fish are! In terms of migratory fish the Wahoo and Dolphin are here and generally show up and leave between May 1st and the middle of June.

INSHORE – Captain Chris, our go to guy for inshore fishing has been slaying the Redfish. Mixed in there is a good number of Flounder, and some trash fish like Ladies and Jack. Bite has been good, and the best time to fish is the last of the outgoing tide. Captain Chris recommends that you check out the oyster bars and creek holes. Put down some live shrimp on jig heads and you will be sure to bring the Redfish in like the pros. There is bait in the holes, as well as Trout. If you get a good bounce going around there you should also find the Flounder.

BAIT REPORT – There is bait around and quite a bit of it too. There are Pogeys and Threadfins around the reef, and captain Daryl likes to use a Sabiki Rig. Inshore Captain Chris has seen a strong showing of, finger mullet, shrimp, crabs, and fly fish – pretty much everything!
