Atlantic Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Now that the Spring patterns have set in we aren’t really seeing any surprises or huge changes into this week. Redfish continue to be the most prominent fish in the area. They are feeding well and aren’t too picky about what they take. If you are able to bring some Mullet along, this is generally a good bet however Shrimp or similar artificial will work as well. Bigger fish can be caught towards St. Augustine. Generally we see Spotted Seatrout going hand in hand with many Redfish catches. Black Drum and Sheepshead are slowly heating up but they haven’t fully fired up just yet. Sheepshead are taking the usual baits as they hang out on structure. Anglers are also avoiding the Sharks that have been putting up an aggressive fight in the Atlantic Beach area. They are a lot of fun to fish for but can be annoying when they’re not the target of your bait, or should we say, their bait. Bluefish and Pompano are running the beach. Blues aren’t picky about what they take, you can throw anything from artificials and spoons to live bait. As Cobia move in following the rays anglers are fully embracing the Spring bite.

OFFSHORE – The offshore bite has been a bit hit or miss this week due to the recent wind and weather, which seems to be nothing new for anglers in this area. When you can make it offshore, rest assured you won’t have to go too far out. Dolphin have moved closer in and can be landed on the troll. Most anglers are focusing on the nearshore bottom bite as it is a bit more consistent. Limits of Sea Bass are easy catches along with a few bycatches of Cobia mixed in.

INSHORE – The Sheepshead bite is pretty good inshore. Under docks and bridges are the best place to find them. The Reds (Drum, Red) are around however there are more good sized Black Drum (Drum, Black) swimming inside. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are on the edge of shell bars. They are small but biting well. There are also Big Bluefish are in the river.

OFFSHORE – Red Snapper (Snapper, Red) are on the bottom but are catch and release. Cobia aren’t far from the beach. Vermillion (Snapper, Vermillion) are appearing in the middle grounds close to 100 feet. The numbers are consistent. Enormous Bluefish are swimming about 10 miles offshore and are up to 15 pounds. A few have been caught inshore in the river as well. Way out the Mahi (Dolphin) bite is on fire. Wahoo are still around and Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) are biting well at the ledge. Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) have been sighted during the day going after Ballyhoo on a fast troll.

Atlantic Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – There has been a nice variety of fish swimming inshore this week, with the most prominent bite coming from Sheepshead and Black Drum. If you are heading to the jetties, beaches, rivers or reefs you will have no trouble hooking up to either of these fish as the numbers are outstanding from Fernandina to Palm Coast. The KBY reef in particular has produced well.
From the surf we are seeing Pompano and Whiting running towards Atlantic Beach. They are swimming shallow so your best bet is to stay inside the rocks to find them. Inshore, the Trout are making a scattered appearance and if you are looking to target them the last hour of the outgoing tide will be the key time to fish. Flounder are just beginning to show up in bigger sizes along the shorelines towards St. Augustine. It looks like Spring has a great fishing season in store for us!

OFFSHORE – The weather was finally nice enough for a few days offshore this week. A bit of residual wind is still hanging around however the fish are hungry and ready to bite. This past week anglers were doing really well on Wahoo offshore. The recent tournament in St. Augustine has produced good numbers while high speed trolling at about 20 knots or trolling Ballyhoo during the day.
The bottom bite has been a bit more consistent in terms of landing fish. Red Snapper are providing good catch and release action. Triggerfish are also swimming the bottom. A bit closer in, Cobia have also been landed as anglers jig them up off the bottom as the water isn’t warm enough to cast to the rays yet.

Atlantic Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Despite the unfavorable weather anglers in the area are still finding the typical, seasonal fish hanging around. When you can find a weather window there has been a surprisingly decent bite as Black Drum are really beginning to turn on. As usual, structure will be holding your best fish which is also good news as you can typically find some shelter from the wind around these spots. Creeks, jetties, holes, inlets, towers, bridges and the Sounds are going to be your key locations when targeting Drum from Fernandina to St. Augustine. Bait setups have been nothing new, and anything that has been successful so far this Winter will continue to produce into this week.
Mixed in with the Drum have been great catches of Sheepshead. You can find them in a lot of the same areas taking the same setups. Your typical Redfish and Trout have also been hooked into this week, however, the colder weather has set their early Spring bite back a bit. Although Reds are still in large schools, which means when you can hook onto one there are likely a few hanging around. Searching shallow mudflats that are holding heat will prove to be most successful. As usual Trout are swimming the rivers and creeks but if they are your main target you’ll have better luck heading to Nassau Sound.

OFFSHORE – We just can’t seem to catch a break in terms of weather this Spring. Mother nature has been teasing us with a few days of warm weather then hits us with yet another cold front. That being said, the nicer days have produced some Cobia this week. Anglers are jigging for them using either pink/white or chartreuse bucktails. Some anglers are adding a curly tail grub. To their setup for more success. The bite improves as we move South so if we can get some improved weather over the next few days we expect things to really fire up.

Atlantic Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Although we are eager to see the Spring bite heat up and lead into Summer, the transition period has been a bit tough. With the lack of cold weather, many fish hadn’t schooled up and are still fairly scattered at this point. Redfish and Trout in particular are spread out right from Fernandina to St. Augustine. Numbers of Trout are increasing as we move South however sizes are still small and time will need to be spent finding them. For similar reasons the bigger Sheepshead continue to swim offshore and haven’t moved into the creeks. It’s no surprise that if you are targeting them a Fiddler Crab or Dead Shrimp is the key to a good fish. While Sheepshead are staying outside, warm water temperatures are bringing in an early bite of Flounder in the St. Augustine area. Drum are following close behind and anglers are finding the most success targeting them using a half Blue Crab. Mullet are beginning to show up in creeks and rivers. They are still small however this is a promising sign of a good run in the Spring.

OFFSHORE – 2017 has been a tough go so far for offshore anglers. Weather conditions continue to keep boats inside, so it has been difficult to gauge a deep water bite when few have actually made it out. Short weather windows have allowed those heading out of St. Augustine to target Wahoo as they begin to heat up with the upcoming full moon. This is also just in time for a few local Wahoo tournaments. As usual, stick with your dark colored lures for the best bite on the troll. Dolphin and Tuna should pick up following some more ideal weather. Closer in, determined anglers may find decent sizes of Cobia. They are not consistent but are a good option if seas are too rough farther out. Anglers willing to head North towards Fernandina can find a decent Sea Bass bite without heading to far off.

Atlantic Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Jetties and nearshore bottom structure offered some Sheepshead anglers a decent bite while some Flounder started to move back in. Some of the jetties are also hold Bull Reds and Black Drum, there are also a lot of small Redfish around. If Redfish are what you’re after, head down to Palm Coast where they are readily taking anything from Topwater plugs to live bait during the falling tide. The warmer than normal temperatures appear to have put a damper on the Trout fishing for most anglers. Despite the lackluster Trout bite, you can still have a good day of river fishing thanks to the arrival of Flounder. Try fishing Mud Minnows or Gulp on a jighead for them.

OFFSHORE – Reports of successful offshore trips private boats were few and far between from this week. There were a few charters that found Wahoo, Dolphin and Tuna. All three species of fish were caught around 65 miles out. Hopefully next week will provide a few more opportunities to get out.

INSHORE – One thing we heard over and over again from various Captains and Bait Shops was that a little time spent fishing jetties in the region should yield some really good catches of Black Drum. The Sheepshead bite has still been pretty good for Anglers working inshore structures.
Most of the bigger Seatrout reported this week were from creeks and rivers mainly South of Amelia Island and North of Palm Coast. As for lures, Slayer Paddle Tails or Down South Lures were working well for anglers throwing artificials.

OFFSHORE – Cobia fishing has been good for anglers on Florida’s North East Coast. They haven’t made their way in on the Rays yet but are doing well in depths from 90-120 feet. Gulf Stream anglers welcomed a few days where they are we able to get offshore and troll for both Wahoo and Blackfin Tuna using weighted lures or Cedar Plugs.
Bottom fishing for Black Sea Bass was fairly decent anywhere from 8-25 miles. The farther North you are in Florida, the better the Sea Bass.
Off of Atlantic Beach there were some good catches of Porgy, Amberjack and Bar Jack along with some Beeliners. You will probably do well concentrating on fishing 120-140 feet of water.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Sheepshead have been a reliable catch from Fernandina down to just North of Palm Coast. The farther North you are the better the numbers and sizes have been. Nothing new to report as far as techniques and finding the fish goes. Stick to the usual inshore structures with anything from Crabs to small Shrimp.
Trout fishing in the region has been average. Small tidal creeks and rivers have been the best places to catch them. You should have no problem finding the odd, scattered Redfish while Trout fishing. It’s worth mentioning that the Redfish flats and popular spots in and around St. Augustine and Palm Coast will have heavy pressure do to the upcoming Florida Redfish Tournament.
Surf anglers will be offered up some opportunities to catch Whiting and some sporadic Bluefish. The beaches will be on and off from day to day so you may want to plan to move around if you find yourself on a slow bite.

OFFSHORE – The wind was definitely working against any of the boats trying to head offshore this week. Those who did make it out on the Northern reaches of the East coast were lucky if they were able to pull some Blackfin Tuna on the troll. It would have been a very good week to be a little further down the coast as anglers from Daytona and South were able to high speed troll for Wahoo at the stream when weather allowed passage offshore.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The weather has been up and down this week and the fish are showing it. The Flounder (Flounder, Southern) bite is scarce and Sheepshead aren’t where they should be. They are still offshore at this point as the water isn’t cold enough for them to really move in. Redfish (Drum, Red) aren’t schooled up yet. They are still there in regular numbers however they are more spread out or the schools are small. Normally we would see 50-100 schooled up. Some Sheepshead can be found in the creeks this week. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are a little difficult to find. They can be found in the valley and the river area. Surf fishing has been up and down as well. Some days we are seeing a lot of nice sized Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) with a few Reds and the next day they are gone. The winds haven’t helped. OFFSHORE – Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) are running well with the warm water. The wind would make them easier to catch using a Kite and live bait.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Sheepshead are all over the jetties, main river docks and bridges this week. There are plenty in the back of the creeks on the oyster beds during the higher tide, at middle incoming. During high tide they are along the grass lines. Crab and live Shrimp are hooking fish up to 9 lbs. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are still swimming the river. The better quality fish are in the river however some are in the creeks up to 24 inches. They are preferring a wide variety of baits from paddle tails to jerk baits to hard baits such as MirrOdines. 5MR MirrOlures and Unfair Lures are working well. Bomber Long A’s are always productive. Reds (Drum, Red) are eating well and beginning to school up. The water is just getting cool enough. Fish the high tide, far back in the creek along grass with cuts. Toss Mullet or Blue Crab in these areas. During low tide the mouths of feeder creeks around the bays are more productive as they school up on the flats. Quarter or half Blue Crab and dead Shrimp on a jighead along the bottom is the best setup. Sheepshead have been caught on this as well. They are up to 6 lbs mixed in with some of the Reds. Black Drum (Drum, Black) are hit or miss. It’s still a bit early for the bigger sizes. Some are up to 40 lbs but they are not consistent. OFFSHORE – Cobia have been biting well into this week. Deep jigging 8 oz jigs or bucktails with white/pink, chartreuse, or white/blue is a good setup. 80-120 ft of water is the key depth around the wrecks – not directly on top of the wrecks. They are on the outside, sometimes 50-60 yards out. Search the sand bottoms as the fish search for Crabs. Wahoo are still decent. There hasn’t been as many Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) turn up with them but the Wahoo are consistent.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The patterns are still holding up into this week. Sheepshead and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are the main catches. Sheepshead are taking Fiddler Crabs and Oysters around the bridges and docks towards the ocean. They are out towards Nassau Sound under the bridge and the docks around Fernandina along the railway trestle. The Mayport Jetties are holding decent numbers and sizes. A few Black Drum (Drum, Black) are mixed in around the jetties. They are up to 20 lbs. Bull Reds (Drum, Red) are still swimming. Trout are the main bite in the river. Anglers are catching all four main species here: Sheepshead, Trout, Reds and Drum. They are biting anything such as MirrOlures and sinking baits with a slow, steady retrieve. 52MR and 52Ms are working well. You want to be very subtle for the lethargic Trout. The Redfish action has been slower with the warmer temperatures and they are not schooled up on the mud flats yet. We will see that when the temperature drops for a stable period of time. Shrimp, Mud Minnows and half or quarter Blue Crab around the oyster beds during low tide will be key. During high tide search the grass lines to find the fish high up in the creeks. Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Reds (Drum, Red) are being caught on the inside. A few Flounder (Flounder, Southern) have been hooked here as well. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are doing very well. Recently, topwaters early in the morning have been productive. Good numbers of Drum (Drum, Black) are turning up around the jetties and docks. Sheepshead can be found in the same areas. Fishing the JTB Bridge should produce some fish. Fiddler Crabs and Shrimp are your key baits for the Sheepshead. OFFSHORE – There is a lot of Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) offshore. Easy limits have been caught as of late. Catch and release Grouper (Grouper, Gag) are coming up off the bottom.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – There are a lot of Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) this week. Bull Reds (Drum, Red) are at the jetties and in deeper water in the rivers. Topwaters early in the morning has been hitting both fish. Sheepshead have come into the intracoastal and rivers. You should be able to catch some good Sheepshead on docks this week. OFFSHORE – Cobia are biting in 80 ft or more on the wrecks. If the weather allows you to get out, they’ve been doing well on Cobia Jigs.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The weather has been a bit unfavorable the past week but the fish are still biting! Sometimes this weather brings about the best bite with lower pressure from anglers. Lately the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have been biting in the creeks. They are mostly small. The topwater bite is slowing down as the water becomes cooler. Suspending Jerkbaits such as a MirrOlure L30 are producing a lot of fish. Bomber Long As are also great. MirrOdines, Unfair Lures, and Arrowheads are catching fish. Plastics under a popping cork or on jigs are great. Gulp Swimming mullet on an 1/8 oz jighead on the bottom or under a Cajun Thunder is producing a lot of Trout and Reds along the grass. The Flounder (Flounder, Southern) bite has definitely slowed. There still are some decent quality fish just not great numbers. A lot of them go to deeper water to find a more stable temperature. The shallow water cools down a lot at night. The fish move from the rivers and creeks. Focus on structure such as oyster beds and grass lines. The Reds (Drum, Red) are still biting well. They are pretty much year round, you just have to target them differently. Focus on the dark 3 ft mudflats at low tide. The water flushes out producing a great bite. These areas become nice and warm on the sunny days. The Reds will school up with some Trout mixed in. Small Shrimp, Mullet, and Crabs will be in the same places. We expect to see this more when the temperature drops a bit. You’ll have to move around a bit more to find schools as they won’t be everywhere. When you find a school, stay on them. As the water cools the bite will be more consistent. Sheepshead are beginning to fire up well at Nassau Sound, Fort George and Fernandina. These areas are holding better numbers and sizes. They are more scattered in the river. Most anglers are throwing fiddler Crabs. Blue Crab around the oyster beds in the backs of creeks are producing fish up to 8 lbs. You may not see numbers but you’ll find quality fish. Out along the bridges and docks the fiddler Crabs, oysters and mussels are working best. Black Drum (Drum, Black) are beginning to show up. They are increasing in size throughout the river, downtown, the jetties and points. Half or small, whole Blue Crab are working best to hook them. They’re not really big yet but there should be bigger fish by Spring. Right now they are around 5-15 lbs. There are a decent number of nice slot fish. In the Creeks towards Nassau Sound, Myrtle, Fort George and in the intracoastal we are seeing decent Puppy Drum. They are taking dead Shrimp, Clams or quarter Crab. OFFSHORE – The offshore day bite close to the ledge has been holding active Cobia and Wahoo. Anglers are high speed trolling for the Wahoo. Decent numbers of Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) have also turned up. You can troll small cedar plugs for them. On the way in you can vertical jig on the 120 ft wrecks for a good Cobia bite.

BAIT REPORT – Shrimp, Crabs and a few Mullet are still running. You can find them inshore in the afternoon on the flats.

INSHORE – A lot of nice Sheepshead are being caught this week. You can always catch them using Fiddler Crabs. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are still on the inside. INSHORE – Fishing in the intracoastal through Jacksonville has been excellent. Reds (Drum, Red) and plenty of undersized Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have shown up. The Flounder (Flounder, Southern) bite is still good. Snook have been caught in Palm Valley. The ocean has oversized Reds for surf anglers along with some nice Bull Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Nassau Sound and Fort George are holding the hottest Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite this week. There are tons of Trout all over the place as well but they are definitely thicker in the Sound and Fort George. Darker colors such as Green or Black are doing well to hook them. There are some Redfish (Drum, Red) mixed in. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are a bit scattered this week. The moving tide is best to fish. Incoming or outgoing are both catching fish but each fishing hole has a better tide to fish. You’ll have to spend a bit of time fishing both tides to learn your spot. INSHORE – Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are still biting. Sheepshead are still strong around the jetties. They are loving Fiddler Crabs. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are heating up around the river with Reds (Drum, Red). Mullet and Mud Minnows are working well to hook them. Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – There has been a lot of severe flood tides however nice Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are being caught. Redfish (Drum, Red) are all up in the grass. There hasn’t been a lower tide since the hurricane. Weedless Gold Spoons are working well in the grass. The night Flounder (Flounder, Southern) bite continues into this week. Spinner baits are best to hook them. Redfish Magic will also work for them. Light colors are best. Mud Minnows have been the best bait. For most of the inshore stuff. Float rigs and popping corks are popular with the high tide. We expect the tide to fall soon. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are heading South but they are still here a bit. Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Anglers are getting out to target Sheepshead and big Redfish (Drum, Red). The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are biting well. Everything is closer to downtown. Generally, Sheepshead hold up on structure. Search the rivers as well. We are seeing Flounder (Flounder, Southern) and Reds in the shallows. The tides are a bit off as of late. The fish are biting better during the first hour of the outgoing and the first hour of the incoming. Flounder are loving spinner baits with a white Grub or a swimming Mullet in White. INSHORE – A lot of Sheepshead are coming in this week. The numbers are fantastic. Big Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are up to 9 lbs. Reds (Drum, Red) continue to bite into this week along with Croaker (Croaker, Atlantic). They are swimming up the river. Pearl White Gulp on the incoming tide has been productive for the Flounder while the Sheepshead prefer Fiddler Crab, small Shrimp or Drift Crab.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Fishing is good. The recent Flounder (Flounder, Southern) tournament was won with a 10lb fish. Quite a few fish were caught by all tournament anglers and the bite continues into this week. Redfish (Drum, Red) are tailing in the grass during flood tides. There hasn’t been much said about Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) this week. We expect them to pick up soon. The Intracoastal is producing Flounder and Reds. The rivers are holding oversized Reds. Surf fishing is on fire. We are seeing nice Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and big Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). Some boat anglers are fishing at the end of where the pier was. They’re getting some nice Sheepshead on the bottom structure. Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are just starting to heat up numbers wise. There are a lot of small fish from Matthew’s Bridge to the Mayport Jetties. They are up to 9 lbs already. The Bull Reds (Drum, Red) have come on strong on Blue Crabs and cut Mullet or Pogies. They are from the end of the jetties to the island. This has been great for charter captains. There are a lot of oversized fish. The creeks are holding a lot of legal sizes. Flounder are mixed in. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are great in the evening and into the night. As the weather cools off they will bite better during the day. Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have just started on the beach. There are a lot of legal Pompano so far. They are getting ready to kick into high gear through to November. Nice Whiting are turning up. The Kings (Mackerel, King) have slacked off. There hasn’t been any Wahoo show up however normally the Fall run of Wahoo begins early October and continues through the Winter.

INSHORE – The Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are starting to come in. They are biting in pretty good sizes. Should be a good Flounder fall. They are hitting in the intracoastal and the river on Spinner Baits or Mud Minnows. Different types of plastics from DOA to Saltwater Assassin to Gulp will work. Big Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are being caught but not as many as usual. The sizes are a little down but not bad. Tons of of oversized and slot Reds (Drum, Red) are being caught as well. INSHORE – The Flounder (Flounder, Southern) bite is better than usual for this time of year. The sizes are great and you can take fish on spinnerbaits. Gulp on jigs is also productive. Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The biggest bite inshore is the Flounder (Flounder, Southern). They are really starting to pick up along with the Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) biting into this week. The bite should continue through October. The Flounder are chasing all the bait running. They are in the 24 inch range. Reds (Drum, Red) are always here however the Bulls in the river are getting pretty thick. This will continue to over the rest of September and peak into October. They are spawning right now. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are beginning to pick back up. We are seeing some decent fish caught. They are becoming more prevalent with better quality turning up. Bomber Long As, MirrOlures and Mirrodines are working. Fluke style baits are great on light jigheads. The Trout are still a bit deeper this week as they prefer the cooler water. The topwater bite with Spooks or Skitterwalks in the early morning or late evening has been productive. It’s still a bit warm for Sheepshead so they are still a bit sporadic. Using Crab around Oyster beds is the best bet to hook them. We expect to see some high tides next week so make sure you get out before and after the flood for a great bite. Along the beaches and at the end of the jetties the Tarpon are chasing the bigger Mullet that are showing up. Sharks and Bull Reds are mixed in. Nearshore off the beach we are seeing a few Kings (Mackerel, King) show up. Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Flounder (Flounder, Southern), Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) are in the river and creeks this week. Find the high tide and get into the creeks so when the water recedes you are ready to catch them! When the water goes out you need to go out and hit the main river. Live Mud Minnows and Shrimp are great. Shrimp is usually on a popping cork while the mud minnows are on a jighead on the bottom. On the beach the Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) are still plentiful on Spot and Pinfish. There are a lot of Sharks as well. Pogies are hugging the beach so the Sharks are following. Small Jack Crevalle (Jack, Crevalle) have shown up as well. They are schooled up in sizes of roughly 30 lbs. Cobia are hugging the rays on the beach. Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Things have been consistent into this week. The Reds (Drum, Red) are still biting in great numbers. Live bait has been very successful around the oyster beds in the shallow creeks. Mud Minnows on Jigheads has been productive for some over slot Reds. Cut Mullet will work as well. In a bit deeper water in the main creeks holding about 8-12 ft of water anglers are searching for Tarpon. They are moving into the inshore well and the bite has been pretty steady. Matt at the shop landed one around 5 and a half feet. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) and Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) are both still biting strong. During the evening the points have been great using MirrOdines for the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). Tarpon, Sharks and big Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) up to 20 lbs are all running the beach. The Jacks and Sharks (Shark, Bull & Shark, Blacktip) will put up a good fight. Some Reds (Drum, Red) are nearshore on the beach. They are swimming the bottom and getting ready to move into the river in the fall.

OFFSHORE – There haven’t been a whole lot of reports from offshore. The Kingfish Tournament this week is usually scheduled during the hot King (Mackerel, King) bite. Anglers are slow, deep trolling for them on the wrecks. Snapper (Snapper, Red) can be found in roughly 90-110 ft of water throughout the structured bottom. They seem to be everywhere and are catch and release. The Mangrove (Snapper, Gray) bite was great offshore and the sizes were fantastic but the bite has slowed down a bit. A few Gags (Grouper, Gag) are still showing up with the occasional Cobia on the wrecks. Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) and Cudas (Barracuda, Great) are a dime a dozen out there!

A bit farther out the Cigar Minnows and Spanish Sardines are all over the place. You can Sabiki them over wrecks and buoys. Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Redfish (Drum, Red) have slowed down in the shallows however they are still biting if you are targeting them. The water has become hot so the bite is not as prominent. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite is slow during the day but picks up at night for the same reason. If you head out in the early morning the topwater bite is good. They have some size but they are mostly smaller. The night bite is providing the best sizes. Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) and Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are the most notable fish for numbers and size. Live bait is the preference lately as it is all swimming. Trout and Mangroves take Shrimp, Reds take anything and Flounder are taking Mud Minnows. On the beaches and inlet we are seeing bull Reds and they will only get better moving towards the fall. That is a great sign so far. Tarpon are beginning to show up more in the river as we see more Pogies. Tarpon are also swimming the creeks. Sharks (Shark, Bull) have been found in the inlet.

INSHORE – There is a lot of Flounder (Flounder, Southern) being caught inside. Mud Minnows are the best bait to hook them. Most anglers are using a Carolina Rig on the bottom. Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have slowed down a fair amount during the day. They are still in the river and smaller fish are swimming the creeks however the night bite is great on live Shrimp, Mullet and bigger jerkbaits including MirrOlures, Bombers and Long As in bright colors like chartreuse and white. Anything that creates a lot of water displacement or vibration is good. Bull Reds (Drum, Red) are running strong in the river this week. Search structures and channel ledges. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are starting to show up in decent numbers and sizes, finally. There are quite a few 18-22 inch showing up so they are a bit early. This is a good sign as we look forward to the fall Flounder run. Sheepshead have pretty much died off at this point. Some are being caught closer to the ocean around Nassau Sound and Fort George however the numbers are nowhere near the Spring and Winter. Tarpon around the jetties have been thick. The sizes are decent from 80-140 lbs. Look for Porgy pods and Mullet to find them. You may be seeing some Sharks and big Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) in these areas and catch them incidentally. Anglers may even see some big Reds in these places. The Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) is hot on live Shrimp on a jighead or light Carolina rig worked overtop rock structures from 6-15 ft. They will hit pretty much anything live and are good quality fish. Small finger Mullet are a great alternative. Everything is moving into summer patterns. There should be some bigger Tarpon moving in from the ocean into the creeks in the next while. The Florida Pro Redfish Tournament is this weekend. INSHORE – The fishing has been difficult in this area as of late. The fish seem to be moving South as the saltwater is pushed down. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite is a bit productive at night so look under the lights, docks and bridges. From the pier anglers were catching Trout and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and we expect that this should continue.

INSHORE – Quite a few Cobia have been caught off the wrecks so far this week. They are just off the shore and moving towards the offshore with the sizes being fair. This has been the main focus for most anglers. We hope to see the bite continue into the weekend.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The most notable inshore bite is the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). Quite a few of them are being caught during the day but nighttime seems to be better for the larger Trout. They are being caught on hard baits and mirror lures and stick shads. Bigger soft plastics are doing well in the 6 and 7 inch range, the big Trout seem to be doing better with those. Soft plastics like paddle tails in brighter colours such as chartreuse and pearl white. The bigger baits give off more vibration, promoting larger Trout to take the bait. The Redfish (Drum, Red) are really good in the flats, and oyster beds with sizes up to 32 inches. The bull Reds are starting to show up really well in the rivers, along the channel drops anywhere from 35-45 ft. of water with Blue Crab, cut Lady Fish, cut Mullet and cut Finger Crab. The Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are starting to show up pretty well and you can pretty easily go out and catch 5 or 6 but you might not be able to easily catch a limit of Flounder in one trip. The Flounder aren’t too big right now but they are getting bigger as the water warms and can be found in the rivers and in the creeks. A few Pogie pods have also been found which is excellent bait. Sheepshead and Black Drum (Drum, Black) is starting to die down a little bit and bites have decreased. The Tarpon are also slowly coming in but in about a month or a month and a half when the Mullets and Pogies get bigger, we are expecting 60-130 lb. Tarpon. Off of the beaches, anglers are catching Whiting and a lot of Trout that are just beyond the surf in the trough. Some good Pompano of sizes of 14-17 inches are being caught with Clams and Sand Fleas but they have been biting less recently.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – In the Intracoastal the recent Tournament produced some great Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and more Flounder (Flounder, Southern) than normal for this time of year. They were 18 to over 20 inches which is great. Redfish (Drum, Red) were also plentiful. In the surf the Pompano have been really good this week. Tarpon are hitting off the end of the pier. Kings (Mackerel, King) are just beginning to show up on the beach and the Cobia are unbelievable. The fishing is hot in North Florida despite the weather being cool for this time of year.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Cobia have been running well this week. More and more fish are being caught. Porgy have shown up and they are following. Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) can be caught in the surf. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are still awesome, most are small but the numbers are great. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are also being caught on floats. They are consistent this week. A few Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are beginning to show up in the creeks, the Spring run should heat up any time. Check out the new gear at B & M Bait and Tackle!

OFFSHORE – Grouper (Grouper, Gag) are slow on the bottom this week. Vermillion (Snapper, Vermillion) are hot from 100 ft and farther. A lot of Triggers (Triggerfish, Gray) are still swimming.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The surf fishing has been a little slow due to all the wind we have seen in north Florida. When the wind settles, there has been a nice Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite in the surf along with some Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and some Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). The holes created by outflow at the creek mouths edging on 2-3ft of water have been producing Flounder (Flounder, Southern). Best bait for the Flounder has been mud minnows. They’re mostly smaller Flounder but there are a lot of keepers, still. The Trout will also take them along with Shrimp while the Whiting are primarily on Shrimp.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Sheepshead are still around this week but the bite is slowing down quite a bit. Fiddler Crabs and oysters are the go to baits. Drum (Drum, Black) continue to swim but they, too are slowing down since the water is warm. Blue Crabs, Clams and Shrimp are working best to hook them. Redfish (Drum, Red) will only get better until they get hot, and they are beginning to turn on. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are on fire. There are decent numbers and a lot of good quality fish. Some of the biggest Trout this area has seen have turned up this past week. There are plenty to be caught, most around 30 inches. Artificial baits such as Catch 2000s and MirrOdines. Slow suspending jerkbaits have been good. The Savage gear Shrimp is also productive. Reds are hitting similar setups. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are also around. There hasn’t been a great Spring push as of yet but they are showing up more and more. Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) are already picking up well inshore. Live Shrimp is the key to catching them. A jighead or a light Carolina rig are the best setups. Bounce your bait overtop rocks in 6-14 ft of water to find the best sizes. They are around 16 inches and counting. We expect this bite to continue into the weekend.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Anglers are hunting Cobia this week right up to St. Augustine area. They are in close this week and can be caught before you even get past the pier. There are still a lot of Redfish (Drum, Red) swimming. The Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are beginning to move in while we are still seeing some big sized Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) holding up on the inside.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The wind has been blowing all week however anglers are still getting nice numbers of Pompano (Pompano, Florida) on the beach and pier. Live or frozen clams are working well to hook them. The usual Redfish (Drum, Red) are hitting in the ditch. Shrimp, either live or frozen are working to hook them. Similar artificials will be productive. Spanish Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish), Blues (Bluefish) and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) are around however they are tough to get with the wind. The Spanish and Blues are swimming the surf and the Bluefish are also throughout the intracoastal. Gotcha Plugs are the best lure to be throwing this week.

OFFSHORE – Weather has made it tough for anglers to find a decent window to get offshore.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is a lot of action inshore. Drum (Drum, Black) and Reds (Drum, Red) are in the rivers. The sizes are big so far. Sheepshead continue to swim around the rocks. Big Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are being caught in the double digits as well. The beach is loaded up with Whiting in nice sizes. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are in the same area as well. The running fish have shown up and we are seeing Blues (Bluefish), Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) and Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish). Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are pushing up from the river this week however they are scattered. There are no Cobia on the beach yet but we expect to see some show up soon.

OFFSHORE – There were tons of Mahi caught before the ocean became mixed up. Should be lots out there still.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – It has been a bit too rough for most boats to head offshore this week however there are a few anglers that have made it out. They are seeing Beeliners (Snapper, Vermillion) and Triggerfish (Triggerfish, Gray) so far. Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) and a few Cobia have moved in. The Cobia should get bigger as they move into the inlet.

OFFSHORE – The pier has been doing pretty well for Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) this week. The Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have also picked up and plenty are being caught in the mouth of the river. They have also been found in the bays and outside the bays. Drum (Drum, Black) and Sheepshead are still hot this week. If you are heading out for Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) they are doing particularly well in the early morning and late evening.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Redfish (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are biting this week. Topwaters have been the key to getting hooked up. Anglers are heading out for the early morning bite. Some big Snook (Snook, Common) have come out of the rivers as well this week. Soft plastic paddle tails on the slow troll have been productive for Trout. White with a pink tail and a pink jig head are working especially well. Saltwater assassins in these colors are irresistible. There are still some decent Flounder (Flounder, Southern). Bluefish and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) have been hitting off the beach and the intracoastal this week. There are some nice, big schools of Trout hiding under the Bluefish. We suspect they are eating the smaller Blues.

OFFSHORE – Tripletail are still on the crab buoys throughout the nearshore this week. This is from 1000-1200 ft off the beach. Cobia have been found about 6 miles out. They are being caught off the bottom this week.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Reds (Drum, Red) are still schooled up in the creeks although the water temperature has come up a bit. There are still some big schools around 100 or more fish but they are beginning to break up as the water warms up. They are a little sluggish as far as eating goes so live Shrimp, Mud Minnows or cut Crab are working best in the cold water. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has been great on either live or artificials. Mirrodines and suspending bombers are doing exceptionally well to hook some slot sizes. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) have shown up a bit but not the target. Sheepshead are still on the rocks and docks as well as the jetties. They are scattered just about everywhere. The biggest focus for most anglers this week as been Drum (Drum, Black) that have been just about everywhere inshore, structure and nearshore. The sizes will be exceptional on bull crabs. With this moon cycle we will see great bites and great sizes.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) fishing has been good depending where you are fishing. Some places the bite is hot, others it is not. 4 to 6 ft of water over a mud flat has been the ideal place to find them. Anglers are slow trolling saltwater assassins. White with a pink jig head or white with a pink tail and a pink jig head has been very productive. Chartreuse woodpecker and electric chicken are also working well. Bluefish and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) have been found on the piers using dead Shrimp and Sand Fleas. The Blues are scarce but there. Reds (Drum, Red) are good when you can find them in the intracoastal and the creeks. Low tide is the best time to fish them. 10 lb Sheepshead are still in the creeks as well. Big Drum (Drum, Black) have also been found on the pier using gulp shrimp too.

OFFSHORE – Tripletail have been found on the crab buoys offshore.

BAIT REPORT – There are some pockets of Mullet hanging around this week.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Sheepshead have been out at the big rocks so far this week. There are also a lot of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) during the night bite and early in the morning. The sizes are great, especially by the coast guard station. DOA lures are working very well to hook them.

OFFSHORE – There are some Cobia swimming the offshore this week. The sizes are decent and the bite is consistent. We expect these results to carry into the weekend.

INSHORE – The Sheepshead bite has been great lately. They are weighing in around 7lbs. The bite is hot! The Reds (Drum, Red) are still consistent. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are scattered and small this week. The surf is slow but is producing some Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). The pier has been slow as well but there can be some fish found in this area. The Intracoastal bite has been steady however.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – This time of year the water is cooler and the Sheepshead start firing up. We expect this to continue to get better. There are tons in the area as it is in 10-15 ft of water. They are holding up on the deeper rock piles and channel ledges up to 20 ft as well. They are weighing in up to 8lb on the oyster bars in the creeks throughout the backwater as well. Fiddler Crabs, Blue Crabs and Oysters or Live Shrimp on a jighead have been producing well. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) is crazy this week up to 19 inches all over the place from downtown to the jetties. Everyone is catching them. Live Shrimp is always a staple to catch them however artificial grubs, paddle tails and gulp are working well too. Hard baits such as MirrOlure 52M are productive as well, especially in the cold water. The slow subtle presentation is best. Drum, Black are beginning to show up in the creeks, there are some bigger sizes however they are not prominent. Plenty of Puppy Drum are in the creek as well. Quarter crab, frozen shrimp and similar artificials on a Carolina Rig will do well. Reds (Drum, Red) are schooled up in the cooler water. Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Anglers have mainly been Sheepshead fishing so far this week. They are on structure as usual. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has been on in the deeper water so far this week and we are also seeing some Drum, Black turn up. The weather has been 4* and down and the wind is unbearable. There is another cold front expected for the weekend so fish will likely slow down.

OFFSHORE – If you can find a break in the weather conditions to get offshore there is a great Wahoo bite at the ledge. From 130-150 ft of water anglers are finding some great Triggerfish, Gray on Squid. There are plenty of Snapper, Yellowtail around that can be caught on just about any cut bait as well as Cigar Minnows so far.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) action continues to do well on the morning bite before the water warms up too much. We are still seeing Drum, Black however they are quite small so far this week. The Reds (Drum, Red) are big and most of them are in slot size. Both Drum are loving Crabs or Clams. A few Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) have been hanging around however they are sporadic this week. The sizes have been consistent. Sheepshead are heating up around structures. They are taking live Fiddler crabs as a main preference.

OFFSHORE – The Wahoo bite is doing well at the ledge this week. Anglers are also catching some Snapper, Vermillion in roughly 85 ft of water. A bit farther out there is a consistent bite of Triggerfish, Gray at 95 ft. The Sea Bass, Black bite has been spotty so far this week. Those who are catching report decent sizes so far. This bite should continue into the weekend.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Although the fishing is not red hot in this area so far we are seeing some great catches this week. A group of Kayakers went out and caught some nice Sheepshead from the banks. They are hitting live Fiddler Crabs which is no surprise. Reds (Drum, Red) are doing well, not excellent however they are present. They are loving Shrimp. Finally, the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has slowed down however they will hit Shrimp or Greenies or MirrOlures. The best time to get on the water has been the later morning bite when the water starts to warm up a bit. It’s still pretty chilly out there so make sure you are presenting a slow bait for your fish in their lethargic state.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – The weather is cold in this area lately but this has not stopped anglers from heading out on the water. Fiddler Crabs have been selling like crazy to use as bait for the great Sheepshead bite this week. They are turning up in great numbers and sizes and can be found around structures.There has also been a good amount of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) hanging around. Anglers are using live Shrimp and similar artificials such as a Vudu Shrimp by Egret. Mirrolures are also a successful technique this week. There are no reports of Drum, Red yet but we do not suspect they have left the area and we hope to see some turn up by the weekend.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is a nice mixed bag of fish hitting well from the inshore this week. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are getting bigger now and can be easily caught from the rivers so far. Live bait typically produces the best bite and biggest sizes. Sheepshead have been strong and the target for most anglers due to their sizes and consistent bite. There are still some Drum, Black hanging around however they have slowed down. From the surf there are some Bull Whiting (Kingfish, Northern & Kingfish, Southern) in great sizes although the bite is hit and miss. Fishing along the bottom where there is structure is generally a good bet. The Reds (Drum, Red) have been steady this week and continue to turn up in big sizes.

OFFSHORE – The weather has been unfavorable in the area recently however we expect to see this clear up soon and some anglers have already managed to get on the water this week. The Wahoo bite has been reported to be steady and they are coming up in good sizes for those who get out there. Mixed in are some great Cobia as well. They are not as hot but the sizes are good.

INSHORE – The action inshore has been steady so far this week. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have been doing well on artificials such as the bass assassin in chartreuse. INSHORE – Reds (Drum, Red) are on fire in the intercoastal this week despite the wind. Everyone seemed to be on fish. Topwater lures are working great and are bringing the fish up. By the piers they are swimming as well and will pretty much hit anything. Reds are not picky this week. We expect to see these same results throughout the rest of the week along with Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Flounder (Flounder, Gulf & Flounder, Southern). Sheepshead are all over the place as well by the piers. As usual people are using Fiddler Crabs and they are selling like crazy.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is quite a bit of action from the inshore this week. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has turned on this week. They are showing up on just about anything from a saltwater assassin in electric chicken to a paddle tail in chartreuse woodpecker. The chartreuse woodpecker color is new and seems to be working very well. White/pink or all white paddle tails are producing great results as well. Anglers have reported catching up to 60 Trout per trip. Use a pink jig head on those plastics in roughly 7-14 ft. of water. Reds (Drum, Red) are also doing well this week on Mud Minnows. They have been various sizes, nothing overly big yet. Sheepshead are biting well on live Fiddler Crabs and are reported up to 6 lbs. The piers have been hit or miss this week and the jetties have been producing when the water conditions are favorable. The weather has been far better this week than last providing a great time to get out on the water.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – There are plenty of fish in this area lately. There is a great Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) run that has begun now that the temperature has dropped just a little bit. There have also been reports of Reds (Drum, Red) and Sheepshead coming into the shallow water this week around the jetties. Sheephead are hitting Fiddler Crabs to no surprise while the Reds are going after live Shrimp. The color choice for artificials this week is electric chicken. This is working well for Trout in particular. Black/Gold mixtures in DOAs are also attractive to the Reds. Mud Minnows and dead Shrimp are showing some productivity if you can’t get your hands on anything else.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Pompano, Florida seem to be just about everywhere in the area this week. They are in the surf as well as through to Vedra. There are also a lot of Sheepshead biting in the jetties. The Flounder, Southern have become spotty as of this week however they are still out there. Reds (Drum, Red) are still fishing quite well. Anglers are throwing live Finger Mullet and having no trouble hooking them at all. Blue crab is working well as an alternative.

OFFSHORE – There has not been a lot of action in the offshore yet this week. Reports of Grouper, Gag have come in from earlier in the week prior to close. The weather has continued to be a bit nasty this week so most anglers have not headed out to the deeper water at this point. If things settle down for the weekend, fishermen can always check out our Tips feature which provides additional information and suggestions to help improve the catch.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is quite a bit of action inshore this week. Huge Virginia Croakers (Croaker, Atlantic) are running. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have been on fire this week. Anglers were float fishing with live Shrimp to hook them. Some fishermen are using dead Shrimp that are working just as well as long as they look alive and are hooked through the tail. Reds (Drum, Red) and Drum (Drum, Black) are coming up in range of sizes. They are taking dead Shrimp but are preferring Blue Crab. Sheepshead are swimming as well and the best bet for the bigger big sizes is the usual Fiddler Crabs. Anglers have been stocking up as the cold weather will drive them away. Blue Crabs are working too if they are cut up and hooked through the knuckles.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Giant Reds (Drum, Red) have been reported from the river and they are all huge with no slot sizes to speak of. Blue Crabs have been working best on them. Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) are also biting well on live Finger Mullet near the island. Our sources are saying the Sheepshead are nice and fat as well so many anglers are searching for this fish. When you can get on them use live bait. The Seatrout, Spotted bite continues this week now that the weather has cooled a little bit. Live Shrimp are their bait of choice. OFFSHORE – There is a solid bottom bite in the waters roughly 11 miles out. Tons of Snapper, Red are hanging around although they are not legal to keep at this time. Mixed in are some Grouper, Gag however anglers have to sort through a lot of Reds before they hook one. There have been a few reports of Sea Bass, Black along the bottom as well. Spanish Sardines or Boston Mackerel have been working best as bait. BAIT REPORT – The thick Finger Mullet run continues this week however they are still expected to depart once the temperature drops.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach

INSHORE – The Sheepshead bite continues inshore this week looking for Mullet. They are coming up in nice sizes and anglers have had no trouble finding them with live bait. There have also been reports of a solid Seatrout, Spotted catch in the mornings when the weather is a little cooler. This is expected to pick up once the temperature drops a little bit more. They are also hitting anything live. There are Bull Reds (Drum, Red) still swimming in the river and are expected to continue this bite through the end of the season. BAIT REPORT – Mullet are still running, although they are expected to move out very soon when the temperature drops. They are working well with all inshore species.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Sheepshead and Snapper, Gray have still had reports from inshore. The Seatrout, Spotted have had a good bite as well. Flounder (Flounder, Summer (Fluke)) are starting to become spotty at this point however Bull Reds (Drum, Red) are still good. These inshore fish will bite anything that is or looks like a Mullet. OFFSHORE – There have been a lot of Snapper, Red and Sea Bass, Black swimming in the deep water. Triggerfish, Gray and Snapper, Gray up to 45 lbs have also had a good bite. Grouper, Gag have had roughly a 40-1 bite to the Snapper. These species are biting at about the 75-90 range on cut bait, frozen bait or live bait. BAIT REPORT – Shrimp are beginning to move out however there are still Mullet running. They are schooling up and preparing to leave, probably on the next cold front.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Due to the extreme weather conditions no anglers have made their way offshore this week. The deep waters are safe from anglers lately as conditions have been way too rough to get out on the water. We are looking forward to some calmer weather and increased reports into next week.

INSHORE – This year’s weather has been the worst conditions most anglers have seen in a long time. Flooding and closures have made fishing difficult, however some people are still managing to get out on the water. This past weekend the Flounder (Flounder, Summer) tournament brought in a 9lb winner and most anglers have reported using Mud Minnows, Finger Mullet and Spinner Baits to hook them. The water levels are currently very high so the fish are not only spread out, but are also very challenging to get to. That said, the kayaks are able to get to some of the holding water the other boats can’t. Pier fishing was producing good bites for a little while. Sheepshead also was doing well however is beginning to slow down now. In the river we have seen some oversized Bull Reds (Drum, Red) caught on Blue Crabs. Anglers are hoping the weather improves in the next few days for some great weekend fishing.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The weather has been extremely hard on most anglers this week. With the high winds they have found it tough to get on the water and those who have braved the conditions have come up with little results. We’re looking to see an improvement as the wind calms down.

INSHORE – Similar to offshore, wind has not produced ideal conditions except that there’s a few more success stories to be had than offshore. Croakers, Mullet and Redfish have been spotty but still hitting Crab while the Reds are more attracted to Finger Mullet. If you can find a break in the weather and want to hit the water remember to check out our Tips by tapping your fish of choice to get an idea of what might bring the fish to you.

BAIT REPORT – There are no small Mullet running right now but the bigger sizes are still around for use as cut bait.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report OFFSHORE – The Ocean’s been pretty tough to get out to on account of the weather. Recently, we haven’t received any offshore reports.

INSHORE – Flounder are sporadic right now but they are picking up. Most people are using finger Mullet, Mud Minnows or live Shrimp for Flounder. Redfish have been on fire everywhere. The river, intercoastal, and the creek all have plenty of Redfish. Guana reservoir is also full of Redfish. In some areas, the Flounder can be tough to get to because of how thick the Redfish are.

BAIT REPORT – There are some smaller Mullet around. If you happen to spot a school, they should be easy enough to cast a net to, but they aren’t incredibly heavy right now.

B & M are carrying all of the live bait including live finger Mullet, Shrimp, Mud Minnows, Fiddler Crabs and Blue Crabs.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report Inshore: Although the recent rains have made the water a bit murkier, the Redfish, Flounder and Snapper bite has been pretty decent. The Redfish and Flounder are striking both live and artificial baits, white and chartreuse being the colors of choice. Root beer and chartreuse paddle tails are also working well. Finger Mullets are heavy in both the creeks and rivers, so they would be a good bet as far as live bait. Live shrimp, Mud Minnows, Finger Mullets are what the Redfish and Flounder are after. The largest Trout are happy with Pogies and Mullets while the mid-range Trout will go after live shrimp. Offshore: According to Matt, Mangrove Snapper, Red Snapper, Grouper (mainly Gag Grouper) and plenty of Barracuda are showing up offshore anywhere from the beach to the ledge (due east 67 miles). Gray Triggerfish are out there as well, and a few Dolphin and Blackfin Tuna have been reported farther out, at about the 40-60 mile range.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

Offshore: Some anglers are reporting some good Gag Grouper on the shore side of the Gulf Stream, but there are plenty of complaints about anglers catching mostly Red Snapper, which are bothersome at this point because they have to throw them back per this year’s rules. Those anglers going farther out are picking up some pretty decent Pink Snapper. The Tarpon are pretty thick around the beaches and in the rivers, and the fishing will only get better all the way through October. Matt recommends using cut bait (10-12 inch mullet cut up from behind the head in 2 inch chunks or rounds) on the bottom. For every 2-3 tarpon roiling on the top, there are 10 more on the bottom waiting for food.

Inshore: Plenty of mullet in all sizes are available in the river. Larger Mullet are hanging out farther up river near the Button Bridge. White shrimp and Pogies (Menhaden) are also plentiful in the river. A recent thermocline brought a drop in water temperature, pushing the baitfish closer to shore and up into the river. This year has, according to Matt, produced some of the best Flounder fishing ever. “They are all over the place,” he says, “from the jetties all the way up the river, even as far as Doctor’s Inlet and Lake.” The Flounder are not huge, but anglers are picking up quite a few in the 15-20 inch range on Finger Mullet and Mud Minnows. A few anglers are finding success with 1/4 and 3/16 spinnerbaits with root beer or chartreuse colored gulp at high tide, especially on the rocks that also have some grass nearby. It’s best to go with really bright or really dark colored spinnerbait—lighter colored for clear water and darker colors for murkier water. Considerate anglers are not keeping the smaller flounder, especially because they do not have much meat and it’s better to release them and let them come back the next year as 3 or 4 pounders. The Pompano are beginning to come south from the Carolinas. Pompano and Whiting are biting on Sand Fleas, Clams, and Blue Crab knuckles, and anglers are catching them from American Beach all the way down to Ponte Vedra.

Of Note: Matt reports that Brown’s Creek Fish Camp is the only shop that is right on the water (St. Johns River) in the Jacksonville area. Anglers can drive their boats right up to the shop and get whatever they need. Also, Matt would like to recommend locally made Sure Set Jigs and Spinnerbait (The “Spinnerlicious” is their best-selling spinnerbait). They have a facebook page and are currently working on a website.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE: Anglers looking for hog Flounder will find them hot and heavy right now, even more than usual. Most anglers are using Mud Minnows, Finger Mullet, or whatever else they can catch. In addition, the Redfish bite continues to good. Trout around the docks at night have been fair on Shrimp with a float rig letting the rig move into the light where the Trout are gathering. Shrimp and Mullet baitfish are picking up in the inter-coastal. It’s good to note that when the barometric pressure begins to drop in front of a storm (as it will when Hurricane Erika moves toward southern Florida), the fish bite will often pick up.

Inshore: The bait of choice is finger mullet and shrimp (shrimp catches everything, right?). The best bite presently seems to be big redfish, especially in the creeks. Some lunker trout are also spread out in the flats and in the creeks, hitting live shrimp and artificial bait with yellow, chartreuse and pink colors doing the best.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Let’s talk water temperature. The water temperature in July should be about 83 degrees, but over the 4th of July Weekend we had that big holiday thermocline as I am sure you can remember, and that dropped the temperature to about 74. The month of July was just awful. Comparatively, the offshore fishing should pick up this August, but so far we haven’t seen much. The good news is that the last quarter of summer (Sept – Oct) is going to be good.

INSHORE – If you plan on fishing for fish, you aren’t going to have a good time. However, if you plan on fishing for Sharks, you are bound to find some big suckers. Captain Dave from Captain Dave’s Sport Fishing took a Dad and his son out fishing and had 9 hook ups with sharks, and managed to pull 3 of the smaller ones to the boat. Captain Dave usually loves to gun behind the shrimping boats where there is a feeding frenzy of Blacktip and Spinner sharks, but there hasn’t been a single shrimping boat in sight since the thermocline. There was also a summer nor’easter that blew through 7-10 days ago and that has flipped the water over so now the temperature is up between 81-83 degrees. The fishing is crazy around the inlet. Where the St. Johns dumps into the atlantic ocean there are those two mile long jetty rock piles that protect the inlet, and the sharks are all over them. There are some monster bull sharks at the bottom, and they are destroying heavy tackle – some of them hitting so hard they pull the hook out of their mouth, some breaking 100 pound power pro, eating whole Spanish Mackerel. These are some real bad dudes. There ain’t no bigger game and it is sitting just 2.5 miles from the end of the boat ramp. It has been a terrible July, but so much to look forward to in the next coming months. Massive Red Drum are coming baby! Last year they started in mid September. BAIT REPORT – That thermocline wiped out the bait. Everyone has been struggling. One of the worst Julys ever.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

Offshore- Not a whole lot is happening in the blue water at this time.

Inshore- All the rain and heat have lowered the salinity of the water, making fishing a bit difficult. Anglers are pulling out a reasonable amount of redfish and the trout bite has been best early in the morning and again in the evening. Shrimp, which is the go to bait for both Redfish and Trout, is so plentiful that anglers using lures are having a tough time hooking fish. Anglers are picking up 3-5 lb Fflounder, especially since the numbers have been better this year than in recent years. The Jacksonville Pier has been producing some nice Trout, Pompano and Flounder. The Kingfish bite off the end of the pier has been phenomenal this year, and it doesn’t seem to matter what bait anglers are using, whether it be Whiting, Blues or just about anything.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

OFFSHORE: Chartreuse and white lures are working well offshore. Cigar minnows, Spanish mackerel and squid are the baits of choice out in the open water and will get sea bass, trigger fish, mangrove snapper, and reds. Those anglers seeking the larger fish, including grouper, are using cigar minnows or a sabike rig with cigar minnows or sardines along the bottom. Vertical jigging with something like a butterfly jig has gotten several amberjacks. Remember that anglers are not permitted to harvest red snapper on the east coast of Florida.

INSHORE: The creeks are producing some nice redfish and trout. Some of the larger redfish, sheepshead and drum are hanging out at the jetties. Redfish are hitting quarter blue crabs on a quarter ounce bright pink or red jig near the banks at high tide and around the oyster beds at low tide. For plastic lures, either really light (like pearl white) or really dark (such as root beer and chartreuse with paddle tails are working quite well. Soft Jerk baits from 4- 4 ½ inches like the Little John XL on a 1/16 and 1/8 ounce jig are also producing reds, trout and flounder. The snook population is beginning to return in the Jacksonville area. Chartreuse and pearl white tailed lures are working, along with three inch shrimp for flounder which have come into the area in some of the largest numbers of the past few years. Shrimp on a “spinnerlicious” jig have also been a good bet.

Atlantic-Pointe Vedra Beach Fishing Report

Offshore: Anglers can catch red snapper, but they must release them because the East Coast did not get a season this year. Apparently, Fish and Game decided that since so many people limited out last year, they would allow only catch and release this year. Many anglers are doing well with shark fishing. While the bait fish have been scarce during the cold water (thermocline), they are beginning to return along the beaches. Although anglers are not permitted to keep red snapper, they are still pretty fun to catch and in reality there are plenty to be caught in spite of the regulation.

Inshore: During the last few weeks, the east coast of Florida has experienced what is known as a Labrador Current which produces very cold water along the bottom of the ocean forcing the fish to move into warmer water. However, the flounder and redfish are beginning to return in small numbers. Pay particular attention to the tide, because flounder will hit best on a high, outgoing tide. Anglers are catching both flounder and reds using finger mullet, minnows and the old standby, shrimp. In fact, as the locals attest, “everything eats shrimp.” A couple of the best places to fish are in the river and around the big jetties. Smaller flats boats are making their way into the creeks and doing well.

Jacksonville / Atlantic Pointe Vedra Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Rusty at B & M Bait and Tackle told me that the king fishing has been good. There are lots of Barracuda around, so be warned. There have also been a few Cobia caught slow trolling. Your bait of choice is going to be pogies or ribbon fish. If you plan on bottom fishing, there is a strong cold current along the bottom, and the good bottom fishing is going to be 45 miles out and further.

INSHORE – The inshore bite is pretty good right now. Plenty of Sheepshead aroudn the rocks right now and Yellowmouth Trout in the river. The Redfish are still here and the Flounder are thick around the docks or any port. For bait you want to be using Mud Minnows and live Shrimp. Rusty tells me that the Flounder is really good on the outgoing tide.

BAIT REPORT – Bait fish are around right now, the pogies have showed up off the beach and make a great bait for almost anything you are planning on catching.

Jacksonville / Atlantic Pointe Vedra Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – If you plan on trolling offshore there is a good Kingfish bite, however you are going to want to be careful of the Sharks out there stealing your catch. Try trolling a live pogy for them or a cigar minnow. Some Mangrove Snapper are starting to show up too. Bottom fishing is pretty good right now, and your bait is probably going to change depending on what you are targeting, but you can’t go wrong with matching the local hatch.

INSHORE – There are some Redfish around, with some smaller Reds back in the creeks. However, there is a ton of Ladyfish everywhere with Trout mixed in. It is really hard to get to the Trout because Ladyfish are so fast, and even when you get one most of the Trout are also small 14.5 inches. You might be able to fix both of these problems by turning the first Ladyfish you catch into cut bait; Ladys have really tough flesh which is why they are usually considered a trash fish – they are pretty awful to eat. But that same tough flesh means it is going to stay on the hook longer and is going to save you from running through your Shrimp. Speaking of which, Shrimp are starting to move, the brown Shrimp are leaving, and white Shrimp is coming in. If you plan on doing most of your fishing in the river use Shrimp, if you are going to the creeks use Crab, or cut Mullet. If you would rather try your hand at artificials you want to mimic a Mullet so anything with a paddle tail, and for colors you want silver and black.

BAIT REPORT – When you find a bait pod you can be sure that there are fish underneath it but the bait is kind of scarce. Captain Bill bets this is because of the lack of rain which has driven the salinity of the water up. Bait has gone South towards Green Cove.

Captain Bill focuses on inshore charters and loves to catch Trout, Flounder, and Redfish. Give him a call, but keep in mind that he also runs a bait shop, so the line could be busy.

Jacksonville & Atlantic- Ponte Vedra Beach

OFFSHORE– There are some Dolphin here and there in the 30-40 mile range around the weeds but they are a little on the smaller side. There are also some Barracuda out there. Wahoo and Tuna make an appearance about 50 or 65 miles out. In terms of bottom fishing you’ll find a good bite on grouper and Triggerfish. There are also a TON of Red Snapper which you unfortunately cannot keep. Our Source at Browns’ Fish Camp tells us that a buddy of his went out and stuck his GoPro camera into the water and saw that Red Snapper were stacked all the way from the bottom up to about 4 feet of water ! There are also some Mangrove Snapper and Spade Fish out there. For the Snapper live bait is not required but works well. If you can;t get your hands on live bait try Squid, Cigar Minnows and Spanish Mackerel. On the Wrecks you’ll also find some Cobia and Kingfish.

INSHORE– The Flounder fishing is going really well, especially out by the Jetties. They are biting really well on Mud Minnows. There is also Tarpon, Shark, Kings, Jacks,Whiting and Drum inshore.

BAIT– There are Pogies EVERYWHERE. Check the Beaches. You can also use a Sabiki to grab some Grunts.

Jacksonville Atlantic Ponte Vedra

INSHORE- Captain Dave Sipler that has left the murky inshore rivers around Jacksonville for the beaches of the Atlantic ocean and he’s been giving all his charters a supreme workout hooking huge shark aboard the Jettywolf.

Running and gunning behind shrimping boats about 8-10 miles off shore, Captain Dave is showing anglers a good time, hitting Spinner and Black-tip sharks and setting them up for a serious fight.

This is the summer time ritual in North Florida when it’s too hot to do anything else.

If you want to try the river this time of year, it has to be early morning in order to have chance at Trout or Red Fish. Captain Dave matches the hatch, using mullet or shrimp.

Jacksonville Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Offshore you’re trolling for Mahi, and Cobia. Bottom fishing you’re finding Grouper, Sea Bass and Triggerfish. There is also a strong Snapper bite though you can’t keep them and don’t forget that the limit is only one for Grouper. Try for the Grouper on Cigar MInnows, Boston Mackerel. Cuttlefish is a good bait for Sea Bass and Vermilion Snapper.

INSHORE – At the pier and off the beach you’ll find Bull Reds, Flounder, some Black Drum and Kingfish. These fish are biting on live or dead Shrimp, Mud Minnows. The tide has a huge effect on fishing in this area. Always fish the moving water. You also want to try to stay by the oyster beds and deeper holes because they hold the fish at low tide.

BAIT REPORT – The Finger Mullet are starting to show up. They are running up and down the inner coast and in some of the creeks.
