OFFSHORE – Our guys have been heading down to Venice to fish for Wahoo offshore this week. Anglers are fishing off the mouth of the river around the horseshoes and salt domes to the South. Yellowfin and Blackfin (Tuna, Yellowfin & Tuna, Blackfin) are mixed in. Anglers are limiting out during the early morning bite. Leaving out of Venice has been best.

OFFSHORE – Earlier in the week the offshore fishing was phenomenal. There were Yellowfin (Tuna, Yellowfin) hitting all throughout the day. There were easily 200 or more fish a day weighed in. Wahoo were also steady. Things are expected to heat up as the season progresses.

OFFSHORE – Big Yellowfin (Tuna, Yellowfin) have come in up to 219 pounds. The sizes are great this week. Obviously not all are that big but the numbers of 40 to 80 pounds are steady. We are mostly catching them on the chunk. Head out to the oil rigs for the best bite.

INSHORE – We have had fishing clients the last week and a half from Texas, Florida, and two different groups from Minnesota staying at the lodge and fishing multiple days. Everyone wanted to target the big Redfish (Drum, Red) and everyone caught some big hard fighting Redfish. The weather has been roughing up the seas, so we have had to relocate and fish different areas daily, and in some cases, have had to run long distances during our outings to find some fish that would bite. When the wind is blowing plan B can be a long haul. We have a huge area to fish here around the Mississippi Delta, but when the seas are rough we have limited areas to fish. We have to find the fish every day, because the fish are not in one spot waiting for us. March can offer some really good days for fishing, but it can be one of the toughest months to stay on top of the fish due to the unstable weather.
OFFSHORE – Day before yesterday we had a calm day and were able to get out in some open water and caught some nice Red Snapper (Snapper, Red) up to 12 pounds. Snapper are a nice bonus fish, but most days Snapper are not an option. We have plenty of trips on the books, so we are going to have to be tough and deal with the weather. My clients come a long way to get here and they want to fish and it is rare that the conditions are perfect. The fishing guide thing is work for real.

INSHORE – BREEZY BUT BEAUTIFUL DAY ON THE DELTA! Yesterday we had the pleasure to guide Emile Canale and the Southern Pipe crew. Capt. John and Capt. Barry helped out running the trip with us. The crew came down Friday evening and had a cookout grilling steaks. We left out of Delta Marina with the wind stiff out the east. OFFSHORE – Offshore we are still seeing Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin & Tuna, Yellowfin) off of the Salt Lumps. They are better to the East of Venice. Search the Circle Rigs to find the best action. Most fish are caught chunking and drifting or if you can find live Mullet this will work as well. Wahoo are consistent and spiking on the moon, as usual. New Moon or Full Moon are best. They are really nice, big and predictable during this time and the numbers are outstanding. It’s not uncommon to get a handful of 50 pounders.

INSHORE – We are hooking Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin) really well this week. Most of our fish are caught chunking. Catching live bait has been tough on the way out. You’ll definitely want to purchase live bait if it’s available at the marinas. The Wahoo fishing has been hit or miss for us. The days that the fish are on, you can catch as many as you can hook on the high speed troll using big Rapalas.

INSHORE – Redfish (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are the main target inshore. Dead Shrimp has been the key to hooking them. This may die down with the upcoming front but should clear up in time for the weekend. Search for clean water to find them once the front passes.
OFFSHORE – Anglers are seeing plenty of Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin) into this week. Pogies (Menhaden) are doing well to hook them.

OFFSHORE – The current moon phase is bringing us some outstanding Wahoo fishing. We are seeing up to 15 per day up to 170 lbs. This is typical of our Winter Wahoo season. They are swimming bottom structure and can be caught on the troll. In dirtier water use divers. In clean water you can still use divers but you can also use surface baits. Out on the edge of the canyon around the lumps we are seeing a good bite. Some are moving into shallow water, most are caught in 300-600 ft. This is the peak until about March however the exceptionally warm weather may change this.

INSHORE – Redfish (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are biting out of Venice this week. This is the main bite out of the area. There are some Bull Reds hanging around as well. They will be in the deeper holes but once you find them you should be able catch a few nice fish.
OFFSHORE – Big Yellowfin (Tuna, Yellowfin) are showing up offshore this week. We are catching them chunking from 80-160 lbs. Wahoo are beginning to bite around the oil rigs. Most of our Wahoo are caught on the troll.

Midday is providing the best bite however we are finding fish throughout the day since the temperatures are cooler and there is less pressure on the fish.

INSHORE – Sheepshead, Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) have all been caught this week. They are doing well in terms of numbers and sizes. Anglers are staying in the river for the most part. Generally Fiddler Crabs do well to catch Sheepshead while Trout and Redfish prefer Shrimp or similar artificials.

INSHORE – The bite has been consistently good for the past month or so. Anglers are taking advantage of the great Bull Red (Drum, Red) action in the area. Capt. Shawn is covering some ground lately due to the hit or miss weather we seem to be having. Keep in mind the fish are on the move so if you’re not finding them, it’s time to head to a new location. This time of year we expect some monstrous Reds, we just have to put a bit more effort in. Matrix Shad or Shrimp under a cork are generally a good bet to hook them. With the wind pushing them in different directions it’s been difficult to pinpoint a specific location however deeper, moving water is usually your best bet.

OFFSHORE – The bite over the weekend was pretty rough due to the weather. There are still quite a bit of Yellowfin (Tuna, Yellowfin) around 75 miles out from the Marina when conditions allow the run. The Barracuda (Barracuda, Great) were smashing a lot of bait before the Tuna could. It’s a bit difficult to fish offshore this time of year when the weather’s around but it’s worth the trip. Live bait on a slower troll is your best bet in terms of fishing by the floating rigs. Typically we do a lot of chumming in the cooler months.

INSHORE – ANOTHER GREAT DAY WITH SOME GREAT FOLKS! We had the pleasure to guide the Martin family, Mr. John, John Jr, Jarrod & Jill. The family came down from Jackson, MS to fish with us. It was their first time fishing with us and what a fishing trip they had. We left out of Delta Marina early heading west of the Mississippi River once again. Surprisingly after this hard cold front we found pristine water on the first reef we fished. We picked up a few Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) early while waiting for the sun to get up. Once the sun got up, we got the fish into a steady bite almost a frenzy. The Martin family easily put 100 beautiful Speckled Trout on the deck today. Jill caught her first big Redfish (Drum, Red) with lots of help from Deckhand Heather! LOL! BIG THANKS TO THE MARTIN FAMILY!

INSHORE – ANOTHER GREAT DAY IN SPORTSMAN’S PARADISE We had the pleasure to guide Joe Verser from Arkansas. It was his first trip with us and what a first trip he had. We left out of Delta Marina early this morning with picture perfect fishing weather. The wind was very light out the north with the tide falling out. We fished pristine interior waters on the west side of the Mississippi River once again. The Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) were in a feeding frenzy as Joe and I put 50 beautiful fish on the deck in short order. Joe also caught his first Louisiana Bull Redfish (Drum, Red). OFFSHORE – The fishing has been great while the fish are transitioning. Bigger Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin & Tuna, Blackfin) are showing up. Swordfish (Billfish – Swordfish) are biting well during the day. This should continue through the rest of the month. They are as close as 1000 ft and as far as 2000 ft. There are plenty of fish in the area. During this time of the year we catch a lot of big Tuna in close with the Mullet run going on. They generally take live bait. We also have a great time following the Shrimping boats to find the Tuna.

INSHORE – We had another beautiful day of catching fish. We had the pleasure to guide regulars Brad, Melissa & Clyde. We left out of Delta Marina early with picture perfect weather. Fishing out in open water with calm seas the crew fished live Shrimp under popping corks steady catching Speckled Trout all morning. INSHORE – Bull Reds (Drum, Red) are running like crazy this week! Anglers are fishing the outside tributaries of the marsh. The winter pattern is beginning to set in as they move in and bulk up on just about anything you put in front of them. Anglers are getting easy limits. Topwaters are working well. INSHORE – Talking to my guide friends the fishing has been really good around the Venice area for the last couple of weeks, although the last couple of days has been a tough bite. No reason why it should be a tough bite for the big Redfish (Drum, Red), because the weather seemed to be good as far as I am concerned, but I am not a fish. Everyone has had a good time anyway, because we have caught some really nice fish, just had to work hard for few of them. Tomorrow is a different day and the fish are due to feed. INSHORE – As the days get shorter, and slightly cooler, the fishing around the lower Mississippi River Delta is just about to be on fire. The marshes and bays are saltier than just 2 months ago, which promotes the baitfish migrations to invade the inshore waters. As this occurs, the big Redfish (Drum, Red) and the legions of Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) become easy targets as long as the Mississippi River levels remain low. Slot-sized and bull Redfish are targeting the bait migrations, and it’s so ironic that one could target them with artificial presentations and be successful with all of the bait around, but working topwater walking baits like a LIVETARGET Walking Mullet or a Z-Man ElaZtech Pop ShadZ have been doing very well were you see fish hitting bait at the surface. The always loyal popping-cork rig with a suspended artificial or bait works well when targeting points and shorelines active with cruising Redfish & Black Drum (Drum, Black), as well as Speckled Trout on oyster reefs and under feeding birds. INSHORE – Yesterday, Saturday September 10, we had the pleasure to guide the Dean family, David, Rhonda, Danielle & Sarah. The family are from New Orleans. David is a golfer and won this fishing trip playing at the annual F. Christiana Golf Tournament. WHAT A GREAT PRIZE! We left out of Delta Marina early to do a combination Redfish (Drum, Red) and Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) fishing trip. We are still in a bit of a transitional season as we wait for that first cool snap to kick off our fall season. Fishing several areas the results were the same everywhere. Lots of bites with many undersized fish. The Dean family had a great time as they have not done much fishing and catching too many fish to count was a great experience for the girls. INSHORE – The inshore fishing for Redfish is excellent right now. The fall months produce the best Bull Red (Drum, Red) fishing all year. If you’re into catching big reds on topwater then this is the time of year to go. Over Labor Day weekend they hit just about anything you threw at them. We were tripling and quading up with four anglers on board. October has a another name down here in Venice and it is called Red October, for good reason, and that being the amount of redfish that are caught every year. The speckled-trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are making a showing as they usually do in late summer/early fall. September and October are the two best months of the year to fish Flounder in this area so they will be plentiful usually up until the first real cold-front. However, that same cold-front will push the Specks into the canals and ditches that branch off of the Mississippi River making for some incredible fishing. If you like numbers, September and October are the months to go.
OFFSHORE – We are catching all different sized ranging from 30lbs. up to 150lbs. The bigger fish are starting to push into the area already and the bigger 180lb. YFT (Tuna, Yellowfin) are here. We are finding most of the bigger fish closer to shore fishing behind deep-water trawlers, there are a bunch of Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) and smaller Yellowfin mixed in. The floaters and deep water structures are holding a lot of 70-90lbers with some over 100lbs. in the school. This time of year bait is abundant and so are the fish. One of the 130lb fish we caught on labor day weekend was full of hard-tails which is the bait of choice right now. The cobia are starting to show up as well, it is that time of the year that we can target them around some of the shallow water structures and grass lines that form in the delta. Swordfishing (Billfish – Swordfish) is still happening but that has slowed down some over the past several weeks. However, October is one of the best months to target Swords, so if that is on your bucket list then Oct. is a great month to go. For the next two months our main target is going to be Yellowfin Tuna fishing. If you’re looking for some incredible catches of Yellowfin tuna then now is the time to come down here and go.

INSHORE – As we move into the fall season we expect the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) to move back into the marsh. We should begin to see a better bite on the interior oyster reefs. Anglers will still be able to catch bigger fish out front close to the beaches but they’ll be moving back to the inside reefs. The Bull Redfish (Drum, Red) will be moving in towards the passes. They are currently biting on the interior marshes on the deeper bayous and oysters reefs. A decent number are surprisingly turning up. The numbers are higher than normal. Towards Venice/Buras we expect the tributaries and marshes to be holding the Trout as the rainfall will keep the water levels up in the rivers and bayous.
OFFSHORE – Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) are doing well and should continue until the first few cold front. They are from the closer reefs out to the shelf. The Cobia run was slow this year however as the fall migration returns we hope the bite will increase close to the coast. There has been great Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin) way out far if you are willing to travel. We hope to see them move into the shelf and within 35-40 miles.

INSHORE – Earlier in the week there was a great bite on board with Capt. Jody. We left out of Delta Marina with a couple showers in the area. We got on a good shoreline with some hungry Redfish (Drum, Red) cruising the bank.The guys went to work with Shrimp under popping corks. INSHORE – All the rain has mixed up the water. Anglers are having trouble stocking up on Redfish (Drum, Red) as they are scattered due to the recent weather. Boaters will have to move around a lot to find fish. Normally the fish are hot at this time of year however with the weather system things are tough. This has been the case up and down the coast. Sharks are going crazy and sometimes taking the fish anglers finally do catch. We hope to see things clear up for the weekend and the water to settle down.

INSHORE – We have been catching plenty of Bull Redfish (Drum, Red) in shallow water this week. They are hitting just about anything under a popping cork along with topwater poppers and walking baits. Any time of day you can get out, they’ll bite. Once the weather clears up we expect similar results. This push of saltwater from the gulf into the backwater could turn out to be beneficial for bait.
OFFSHORE – Red Snapper (Snapper, Red), Tripletail, Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) are biting in the nearshore this week. The Cobia bite is just getting started although it is a little late. They can be found in 18 ft or more. They are following the bait. Normally they are in roughly 30 ft. They are within 5 miles of the coast.

INSHORE – Happy August! Do not forget to pick up your monthly tide chart at the bait shop on the fishing pier. Good news this week is our local crane, who many know as Henry, has returned. If you remember a few weeks ago Henry was tangled in some fishing gear and was left with some pretty bad wounds. Thanks to the venice wildlife center and some local samaritans though, he is in good shape and is back on the pier. As for fishing it’s been a little quiet but not too terrible out here. We have had some Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), Snapper (Snapper, Gray), As well as last week a King Mackerel (Mackerel, King). A ton of bait fish have been swimming around the pier, and with the water cooling off in a month or two, we should be seeing some larger fish. But for now it is still summer, so we must remain patient.

INSHORE – Anglers are catching plenty of Redfish (Drum, Red) this week. When you can get out, search the shadier areas to find them. There have also been a few catches of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) here and there. You’ll have to look for deeper pockets of water and holes to hook them as they will be holding up in cooler areas. Generally, Shrimp – either live or dead has worked well for both Specks and Redfish. The scent really helps attract them when they are so lethargic due to the heat. Similar artificials will work as well. Moving water will hold the best fish.
OFFSHORE – Offshore we are seeing Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin) and Snapper (Snapper, Red) this week.

INSHORE – Finally, The Bull Redfish (Drum, Red) fishing has turned on to our normal standards here around the Venice area. Finally, we are boating 40 to 50 big Reds per trip without being surprised about it. The only thing I can complain about now is when the Sharks (Shark, Bull) move in on us and the weather. Usually, the high Mississippi River in the Spring does not bother my fishing, but this year the river was high all Winter and that pushed my Bull Redfish offshore. The Mississippi River stayed up around 11 to 12 feet for much longer than usual and the big Redfish got tired of it and went offshore where they are difficult to target. Now, the river has dropped to around five feet in New Orleans and continues to drop, so the big Reds have moved back to the coast line where I hang out. Fishing has been so tough I was going after Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) with live Shrimp and having success at it north of here. Boy, glad I don’t have to fall back on that anymore. Most of the people I take out want something to pull on the line. They want to be sportsman and fake out the fish with a lure. You have to do what you have to do, but live bait is for commercial type fisherman. I sure am glad my job has gotten more fun and easier due to the Redfish behaving right.

INSHORE – After a well needed two days off over the weekend spending time with family and friends at the lodge, it was back to business today. Sid Carroll, Leon Monceret and crew joined me today. With the winds up and blowing this morning, we weren’t sure if we were going to be able to Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) fish. We all decided Trout it was and we pointed the Bluewave South! The waves were not as bad as I thought. With the tough conditions facing us, we loaded up on live Shrimp. The bite started out very slow. We moved around and started catching, but it was 5-6 throwbacks per keeper. Steady action with undersized fish so we kept on the move. Our final stop paid off with mostly all keepers and some throwbacks mixed in. Plenty action to keep us busy and being patient and persistent put a good mess of fish together in tough conditions. INSHORE – Since the beginning of June the weather in south Louisiana has gotten more stable, which has let us fisherman fish more areas due to calmer seas. Calm seas really help out because the fish are not everywhere and they don’t always bite if they are there. Pop up thunderstorms are typical this time of year and we have had our share of them. We have had some good days with the BULL Redfish (Drum, Red) action, but in general the fishing is still slower than what we are used to. I believe the fishing is slower this year because the Mississippi River has been high since December. Usually, the river is low in the Winter and does not rise till April or May. I think the majority of the big Redfish are offshore in the saltier water, because they got tired of the fresh water. Normally, I don’t care what the river stage is and I don’t think the Reds do, but the Mississippi has been abnormally high for too long. At least, that is what I think. Fortunately, we have had some nice fish boated. I am glad most of my clients fish multiple days just in case we do have a real tough day. Over half of our clients have fished with us before, so they know what it is like to catch 40 plus Redfish that average over 20 lbs. I wish I could make it happen everyday. The Mississippi River stage in New Orleans is below 10 feet and is falling hard. I think this is going to help us out in a big way this year. I think the fishing is going to get much more consistent. More fish caught is better for business.

OFFSHORE – Marlin (Billfish – Marlin, Blue & Billfish – Marlin, White) are swimming the offshore. The tournament last week was great for most boats. Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) were also hooked. There are some Wahoo and Dolphin coming in and the Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin) are thick out of Venice this week. The sizes are great so far.

We left out of Delta Marina early this morning with calm wind and no rain near us early on. We made only three moves before hitting a feeding frenzy of Speckled Trout & Redfish (Drum, Red). INSHORE – A WINDY 10 DAY STRETCH We did the best we could for our anglers this week in very windy conditions. We had the pleasure to guide the LOST SOULS FISHING TEAM for a two day trip once again. INSHORE – Hello, we have been out on the water almost every day here around the Venice area going after the Redfish (Drum, Red) and Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). We have had to change our fishing locations almost every day due to the wind churning up the water and choppy seas, along with the muddy Mississippi River water. We have been catching fish in some muddy water, but when we find clearer water we get a better bite. The Mississippi River stage in New Orleans is right around 12 feet and just does not want to fall. If the wind would settle down the tides would clear up the water and give us a lot more areas to fish. I think the weather is fixing to get more stable, so the fishing action should improve to the level we are used to. The last couple of weeks we have had clients from Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, and the guys from California just left to go home this morning. We had a great day on the Bull Redfish yesterday. We were seeing schools of the big Reds yesterday. It’s really cool to see that, but the problem with that is they tear up your tackle when there is that many fish going after your lure. The Californians had to take breaks due to the fast action. That is how it is supposed to be like most every day. It most likely will be that way, soon. If finding the fish was always easy anyone could do it. I admit, I wish it was easy more often. Everyone has been having a good time and taking fish home, but I think the fishing is fixing to get really good.

INSHORE – The offshore has been a little rough early in the week. It’s a good thing there’s not far to once you get out of the river. There’s still a good Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin) bite out there for anglers chunking or trolling the rigs. There’s also been some Tuna, Blackfin, biting out there as well. Be sure to keep an eye on upcoming sea and weather conditions when planning your run to the Tuna grounds.

INSHORE – Well after a learning a lesson on the last trip, we managed to make up for it this time. Instead of beating the crowd out, a stop at the end of Northeast Pass and within 45 mins there were enough Porgies for at least 2-3 hrs of Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin & Tuna, Yellowfin) fishing. It’s no secret now where the Tuna are, we elected to go to 989 and hopefully escape the core of the early boat show. This was the case until about 11:00 which at that point we were headed back toward the 9 nm mark. The new 29′ Seavee after two trips put its first 2 Yellowfin and 1 Blackfin in the hole. 1st Yellowfin roughly 40 lbs took the live pogey about 100 yards out and soon after a 30lbs Blackfin had the second reel set at about 50 yards out. While I was finishing off the Blackfin Jimmy dropped a pink flat fall out of the front of the boat and another 35 lb yellow came up and within 20 mins she was on board as well. During this time we had drifted out of the main line of boats across the front of the rig to give other boats a slot to move in and had to reposition upwards around 2-300 yards. With time pressing we made another drift or two, a few captains we sell baits too hailed us on the radio on their plans so we knew it was time. Headed into the 3 kings after VK900 was loaded with boats to try and get an AJ (Jack, Amberjack Greater), unfortunately had once shot and the donkey that grab the last live pogey about 100′ down got the better of us, he broke 200 lb power pro rubbing against some part of the rig. Had a few smaller strikes on the jigs brought up 1 Almaco (Jack, Almaco). Stopped at the last set of rigs on the way in and finished the day with 10 Snapper (Snapper, Gray) on flat fall jigs and cut pogeys. We were happy with the catch, the women got too real in some Tuna and a few Snapper, weather was picture perfect, water was beautiful. Hated to leave.

INSHORE – ANOTHER TRULY AMAZING DAY ON THE WATER! We had the pleasure to guide a group of anglers for the Woodland Plantation in Plaquemines Parish. It was a two boat trip with Capt. Clint running the second boat. It was great catches on both boats again today. On my boat it was Craig, Chet, and Chad. The guys are from Huntsville Alabama and it was their first time fishing LA. We left from Delta Marina in Empire, LA heading to the east side of the Mississippi River Delta once again. The wind was breezy out the south as we fished the interior bays. The guys casted live Shrimp under popping corks and I tight lined Matrix Shad soft plastics. One stop was all it took to put 100 Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) on ice in the Yeti by 9:00 am. INSHORE – TREMENDOUS TROUT BITE CONTINUES! This morning we had our regulars from TN. Bill, Wayne, Harry & Harold fish with us several times a year and are a hoot to fish with. The guys are here for three days with today being day one. WHAT A FIRST DAY THEY HAD! It was a two boat trip with Capt. Zach running the second boat with Harry & Harold on board. Bill & Wayne were on my boat. We left out of Delta Marina in Empire, LA early heading out west of the Mississippi River. The weather was looking beautiful with light wind, a bright moon and incoming tide. Just the way we like it. I made one stop this morning and got the fish on a hot bite. I called Capt. Zach over and we SMOKED EM boating 150 Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). The fish were hitting live shrimp and soft plastics as fast as our lines hit the water. We fished the broken marsh on the way back to Delta Marina and picked up a few keeper Redfish (Drum, Red). We caught and released approximately 20 undersized Redfish also. LOTS OF ACTION AGAIN TODAY! INSHORE – There has been a lot of wind lately that has made offshore trips very difficult. We’re hoping this is the last big blow for a little while.
OFFSHORE – We have been busy fishing since the beginning of April running two to three boats a day. Our fishing guests have been from various states like Michigan, Ohio, Missouri, Tennessee, Florida, South Dakota and Georgia. All these folks have a lot of fishing experience when it comes to Walleye, Small Mouth Bass, and Northern Pike, but not Bull Redfish (Drum, Red). Even the guys from Florida had not caught many Redfish more than 10 pounds. So, they all loaded up their trucks and headed down here to where the big Reds live all the time. The only problem is that sometimes the Reds don’t bite good and the weather can be terrible. The weather this April has really made my job difficult. The wind has been strong and that usually brings thunderstorms. We have been limited in our fishing areas due to the high seas rolling in. The good thing is that we have caught some really nice big Redfish this month, but we have not caught big numbers of them like I want to and what I am used to. Everyone has had a good time and seemed very satisfied, even excited. They just don’t know how good it can really get at times, even most of the time. In March and April we just have to work harder for the fish due to the tougher unstable conditions. The fish are here, but we can’t always get to them. Last week we had a calm seas morning and the guys from Ohio wanted to target Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), so we bought some live Shrimp. We caught 35 nice Specks between two boats that weighed 2 to 3 pounds along with 32 Sheepsheads. We were on them for almost two hours until the wind kicked up and ruined it. Point is, the Specks are around if you’re a live bait person. I had a spare rod with soft plastic rigged and we caught some trout on that as well when I was re-rigging the live bait break offs. April is not the best time to fish, but you can have some good days and have a good time. You just need to stay tough and work at it.

INSHORE – The wind has really moved into the area so it has not been easy for anglers to get out. There are still reports of Redfish (Drum, Red), Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), and Sheepshead so far. Shrimp is working best for all species inshore whether they are live, dead, or artificials such as a Vudu.
OFFSHORE – Snapper (Snapper, Red) are hitting well this week. We are seeing both big sizes and numbers coming in around the rigs. Porgies are best to hook them so far. When anglers are able to get out for Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin & Tuna, Blackfin) they are finding some decent bites.

INSHORE – NO TIDE TODAY! NO PROBLEM! WE SMOKED EM! We had the pleasure of guiding regular and good friend Billy Boykin and his crew of fisherman from Jackson, MS. It was a two boat trip and Capt. Zach ran the second boat for me. We left out early this morning with the wind breezy and the water stained in most places. On my boat it was Billy, Danny and Wade. We had to stick and move early on picking up a few Speckled Trout at every stop. At mid morning the wind calmed down and the water started looking better and better. Fishing some points in the outer bays near the Gulf of Mexico the guys put a whipping on Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) along with a couple pretty Redfish (Drum, Red). My boat finished up with 100 Speckled Trout and two Redfish. Capt. Zach’s boat finished up with 75 Speckled Trout and a Drum (Drum, Black). Great job today by our anglers, Deckhand Heather and Capt. INSHORE – Water temperatures are warming up and we are seeing Shrimp jump. This means the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are running and biting well. They are great sizes and have been very consistent. INSHORE – With all the rain and flash flooding in Louisiana the last few days the Mississippi River will be rising, yet again. The Mississippi River stage in New Orleans is currently at 13.1 ft. today and is forecasted to be at 13.5 ft. in five more days. Fortunately, most of the local flooding in southeast Louisiana does not dump in the Mississippi River. What does all this high river mean as far as fishing? I really don’t know. We might as well get used to it. I am used to it. The Spring rise in the river could happen any day as well. The current in the river is faster. I don’t like the trees and trash floating in the rising river, especially if it’s foggy. It’s rare we get the perfect conditions to go fishing around the Venice area anyway. It really comes down to if the fish want to bite or not. Will the fish be happy or not . The fact is the big, bad ass, powerful, mighty Bull Redfish (Drum, Red) really don’t care about the high river. They are not happy all the time, but you can get them mad at a fishing lure most of the time. They like roaming the waters off the passes of the biggest river in the United States. What I don’t like is the wind, because it gives me less places to target the big Reds. If they are not happy where I am fishing I like to move elsewhere. Windy days make moving tricky. I guess I could really challenge myself and sharpen my skills by buying some live Shrimp and go where all the boats are piled up and fish for 15 inch Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). Na. I would like to hook a 15 inch Speck in the back and throw him out and have my rod about pulled out of my hand by a big killer Redfish. The big Redfish are just so much fun to fight, and if they are under twenty pounds they are good on the grill. Last week I took out Tim and Sherry from Indiana for two days of Redfishing in tough conditions. They caught nine the first day and five the next day. Several Reds were over thirty pounds. I told them the fishing was tough. They told me it was one of the best fishing trips they had ever been on. I took out Pete from Utah last Monday. He flew in for one day of fishing. He is a pilot and gets free airplane rides. He caught eight big Redfish. I told him the fishing was tough. He said he had a great time and that this type of fishing could be addictive. To me, this time of year, 15 to 20 big Redfish is a solid day. Not a good day, but solid. Check the picture out.

INSHORE – The weather is warming up and so is the fishing. We have been putting a hurting on the Seatrout, Spotted this week, as well as catching a pile of Redfish (Drum,Red) too. We are catching them on live Shrimp, 20 inches under a popping cork. The local marinas have plenty of Shrimp and gear in stock.
OFFSHORE – Offshore, the Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) bite has been doing good as well. Drifting live hardtail or cut bait has been effective. Been finding them around the offshore oil platforms as well as rises and depressions of the sea floor.

INSHORE – The Reds (Drum, Red) are still the main focus inshore this week. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has slowed down quite a bit and anglers can search for them schooled up in deeper holes.
OFFSHORE – When anglers can get out and avoid the wind there are tons of fish to catch offshore. Anglers can find tons of Tuna, Yellowfin which is the target for most anglers out of Venice. They can be found at roughly 20 miles out.

INSHORE – Despite the wind in the area there are plenty of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Reds (Drum, Red) to go around. The bite is consistent right off the bat and the sizes are great. Anglers are throwing Tiger Matrix shads to get them. Shrimp on the bottom is also a great way to hook a few good sizes. They are hot this week and anglers are hitting them almost every cast. There have also been a few Drum (Drum, Black) in the area as well, most keeper sizes. There are also a few Reds turning up in the marsh this week however they are mostly undersized at this point.

INSHORE – There are lots and lots of Reds (Drum, Red) that are swimming the area this week. They are schooled up in the high salinity water areas. The mid morning to mid afternoon bite has produced the best sizes so far this week. You shouldn’t have a hard time catching a lot of reds, once you find them, as they’ve gathered in good numbers! Artificials and gulp have been the best way to catch them, moving them nice and slow along the bottom. There have been no reports of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) so far this week. INSHORE – Inshore throughout this area has finally set into the winter pattern. This means we are battling water situations when cold fronts stir up the pots. This has put a damper on the Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) action. Trout have really increased greatly on the wade fishing in the pits on the side of the highway because they are deeper holes. Other than that the Redfish (Drum, Red), Sheepshead and so forth all remain very strong. Winter is a good time to be redfishing. Reds this time of the year are not very particular. You can use live bait like Cocahoe Minnows or Mud Minnow or plastics. If you’ve got good clean water they will annihilate the baits. We are getting a lot of precipitation which we hope means there will be an early spring so by March there will be nice clean water and an early return of Trout. So far there is still some great action to take advantage of this week.
OFFSHORE – In Federal water the Triggers (Triggerfish, Gray) are open, and pretty much everything else is open except for most Grouper and Snapper, Red. The Snapper are open for recreational anglers within the 9 mile limit in state water however. It’s monster Tuna, Yellowfin time however the cold fronts keep anglers off the water quite a bit these days. There have been some Tuna caught and the key is flexibility this year. You have to be able to run when the weather conditions are ideal. The best bite this week is the great Wahoo bite. They are large and up to 100 lbs. They are showing up consistently this week so far. It is a great time to fish the offshore with the huge sizes of fish being caught.

INSHORE – There may not be many different fish swimming the area but that does not mean you cannot catch huge numbers. The Reds (Drum, Red) are absolutely on fire in holes 2-4 ft deep. INSHORE – Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) are still biting well with the mild winter conditions so far this season. The sizes and numbers are great on Matrix Shads as well as the vudu Shrimp. The rig depends on where you go. Most anglers in the marsh use a popping cork whereas in the rivers anglers prefer jigheads. Live bait is not the preference as plastics are working equally as well and last longer. There is a great Red (Drum, Red) bite as well on the same bait. They are mostly swimming the beaches and can be easily caught from the shore.

INSHORE – The Reds (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have been absolutely on fire in the area this week. Since the weather is still outstanding boats are reeling in up to 100 fish per boat, per day! They seem to be just about everywhere and it’s difficult to keep your hook in the water. They are mostly throwing plastics although live bait is working well too. Anything similar to a Shrimp such as a Vudu or DOA shrimp is producing great results. The bite is expected to continue with the nice weather into the weekend.
BAIT REPORT – There are lots of Shrimp running this week working well for inshore bait. Artificials are working well this week too and the bite is so hot a lot of anglers are leaning towards the soft plastics.

OFFSHORE – The weekend provided some great fishing and beautiful weather. Most anglers are hitting Reds (Drum, Red) this week. There are some Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) in the bay but the focus has been on the Reds. Artificial Minnows in purple/white, chartreuse/white are the best bet to catch. White underbelly is the key. They are still schooled up in the marshes and have not made their way to the open water as of yet. They are still in their fall pattern as the temperature has not dropped enough to move them out. Since the weather should continue to be nice, the water will be clean for the weekend which should bring lots of fish right to the surface and easy to catch.

INSHORE – The main target so far this week for most anglers is Reds (Drum, Red) and Drum (Drum, Black). The tide has been high so they have been going after the fish schooled up in the marshes and avoiding more open water. The Reds and Drum have not formed into their winter pattern just yet as it has not been cool enough at this point. There are also a few Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) in the back bay however since there has not been a hard, cold front yet they have not moved out. There should be one moving in Wednesday and the bite is expected to pick up in the bay by the weekend. Black or chartreuse Cocahoes are working extremely well to hook them. Berkley gulp swimming Mullet in Chartreuse is a great alternative.

INSHORE – Anglers in this area are having a lot of success with Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) on Vudu Shrimp or similar artificials. Ghost Minnows continue to be the number one choice of artificial though. Various sizes of Reds (Drum, Red) have been coming up on Shrimp as well. There have also been reports of Flounder, Southern caught in this area as well chasing all the live bait.
OFFSHORE – Wind and rain has deterred many anglers from heading offshore this week. Last week the Tuna bite was within 7 mile rig area and results were great. Billfish – Swordfish, Billfish – Sailfish as well as Billfish – Marlin, Blue were also doing well in this area. We were pretty much live baiting everything. There are currently no offshore trips to report however if conditions lay down and we can get back out to the deeper water we should continue to see the same conditions
BAIT REPORT – Despite the weather there are still tons of bait available for live baiters. Porgies are swimming at the mouth of the passes along with lots of Mullet. Determined anglers can search the nearshore rigs as well as the offshore drill ships in the deep water for bait.

At 9:30 am 100 fish were chilling in the Yeti. Picked up 3 good Redfish (Drum, Red) before calling it a day.

GREAT PRE FOUL WEATHER CATCH!
Yesterday Saturday October 31 we had the pleasure to guide Joe and John. The guys were two of six anglers staying at the Woodland Plantation here in Plaquemines Parish.
We left out of the Delta Marina early with the wind already stiff with the approaching stormy weather that we are experiencing as I write this report.
The morning started off slow as we made several moves with not much to show for our efforts. Finally we made a move getting on a great bite of both Speckled Trout and Redfish.

LOUISIANA FISH KILL BY TENNESSEE BOYS!
We had Bill, Harry and Wayne on board as we left out of Delta Marina early morning.
One stop! That’s all it took. Harry, Bill, & Wayne fished live shrimp under a popping cork. I tightlined a Hybrid Flurry. The Speckled Trout were coming over the side the boat every cast. Deckhand Heather kept up with us as she shucked fish off hooks, baited hooks and iced fish.

FALL FISHING! YOU GOT TO LOVE IT!
We had the pleasure to once again guide Mr. Denzil Cofer 92 years old and his son-in-law Larry Worthy from Georgia. They are here for two days with today being day one. And what a day it was! We left out of the Delta Marina early this morning with the most beautiful weather that I have seen in a long time. The wind was calm and the tide was falling out til mid morning. We fished out in open water over oyster reefs. Mr. Denzil and Larry fished live shrimp under popping corks. I tightlined soft plastics. We steady caught fish all morning and called it a day at noon with a beautiful catch. 70 Speckled Trout, 2 Redfish, and a puppy Drum were chilling in the Yeti as we made our way back to Delta Marina. Mr. Denzil & Larry each caught and released a Bull Redfish.

BREEZY DAY AND A GOOD CATCH!
We had regulars from TN., Larry, Steve, and John on board this morning. They are with fishing three days with us with today being the first. Their first day was a great day. We left out of the Delta Marina in Empire early this morning. The cool front had came through during the night and the wind was stiff out the north. We set out to fish Redfish staying in protected waters. Using live shrimp under a popping cork the guys fished the marsh grass banks tight. The bite was steady as Larry, Steve and John, caught fish all morning. We called it a day at noon thirty with 20 Redfish, and a few other fish mixed in the box.

Davant / Bohemia / Port Sulphur Fishing Report
We had the pleasure to guide some really nice folks from Mason, TX. Duane, Shanta, Tim & Meredith were on board as we left out of the Delta Marina early Sunday morning. It was their first trip with us and first time fishing in LA. What a first trip they had! We headed out to Redfish country with the weather looking good, the tide was falling out with the water calm and clear. It did not take long to get hooked up on the Redfish. Fishing shrimp under popping corks, Duane, Shanta, Tim, & Meredith put a whipping on the Redfish. They filled the Yeti and released many more.
IT WAS ANOTHER GREAT DAY ON THE WATER WITH LOTS OF ACTION AND LAUGHS!

The Mississippi River stage is getting down to 3 feet. The river is cleaning up and getting pretty. The fantastic Fall Fishing for Speckled Trout and Redfish is just days away. We have a few days still available in September, October & November.

Davant / Bohemia / Port Sulphur Fishing Report
We had Lance LeCorgne and group down for a two boat trip. We left out of the Delta Marina early heading east of the Mississippi River. Brad, Todd and DJ were on board my boat. Capt. Patrick Dickinson helped out running the second boat. Lance and Robert were on board with Capt. Patrick. We made a couple stops to fish Speckled Trout but the water did not look good. So off we went into Redfish country. We made a couple more moves before hitting the mother load. The guys used shrimp under a popping cork and put a whipping on the Redfish. We boxed 32 Redfish and released many more. Had a few Speckled Trout in the mix too. It was a beautiful day on the water and lots of fun!

Davant / Bohemia / Port Sulphur Fishing Report
We had Eddie, Glenn, & Jack on board for day 2 of their 3 day trip with us. AND WHAT A DAY IT WAS!
We left out of the Delta Marina in Empire, LA very early with the weather looking beautiful once again. The wind was light out the south, the tide was at its high and getting ready to fall out. We headed to big water to fish big trout.
Arrived at our first spot only to find another boat sitting there. It was a blessing for us as I moved to another spot and it was the stop of the day.
We put the Powerpole and the Stiffy down and never moved. The guys went to work fishing live shrimp under a popping cork. It was a beautiful big Speckled Trout hooked up on almost every cast. We called it a day at 10:00 am with 75 Speckled Trout, 6 Redfish, & 3 fine Flounders on board chilling.
It was a beautiful day on the water and a beautiful catch

Davant / Bohemia / Port Sulphur Fishing Report
WESTERLY WINDS HAND IT TO US TODAY!
We had regulars from TN., Bill, Harry & Wayne. They are with us for two days with today being day one.
We left out of Delta Marina early this morning with rain on the radar all along the coast from Texas to Florida, but not in the direction we were headed. The wind was brisk and building so we targeted Redfish.
We had to stick and move all morning catching a couple here and there and losing a half dozen bruisers after they were hooked. Still don’t know what that was about.
We ended the trip at noon with 20 Redfish and a couple Puppies in the Yeti but we worked for ‘em today.

Davant / Bohemia / Port Sulphur Fishing Report
Great family fishing trip!! Smoked the Redfish in windy conditions.
We the pleasure to guide Jason, Robin, and sons Tyler and Hayden from Shreveport, LA We left out of the Delta Marina in Empire, LA early this morning with the wind stiff out of the southwest again. We made one stop in Redfish Country and SMOKED the Redfish. The family boated 20 Redfish, 7 Puppy Drum along with a few Speckled Trout. It was non stop action and great catch on a windy day.
