Indian / Sebastian River Fishing Report

INSHORE – The bite has been steady inshore this week. For the most part everything is on schedule, aside from the recent wind which has thrown a few fish off. Trout and Redfish are resilient and when anglers are able to make it on the water they are catching fish. Target Trout during the golden hours, sunrise and sunset. With the weather and murky water you’ll want to be using live bait for attraction. The same story goes for Reds, however they are pushing up to the shallower water. They don’t necessarily mind a bit of dirty water, but they still like to keep shallow. Searching areas such as Pumphouse Road in Titusville will be key. Of course, we can’t forget about the Snook as they hold up on docks and mangrove shorelines up and down the coast. Sizes and numbers are good throughout. They too, will likely come on live bait. Deeper docks may be holding Drum, so don’t be surprised if you hook them as a bycatch. The new kid in town has been Bluefish, and they’re coming in with style. Huge sizes have invaded the beaches, in some areas scaring off other species. Pompano and Whiting can be caught from the beach as well, however they aren’t as consistent down the coast. Towards Indian River you can find them in the inlets, but be prepared for a fight.

OFFSHORE – Unsurprisingly wind has made it tough to get offshore this week however a few weather windows have allowed anglers to make quick trips and take advantage of the bite. By far, the best bite has been from the incoming Dolphin as they make their way in. Towards Daytona, anglers are still travelling quite far, to 2500 feet of water to find them. By the time we get to Indian River they are as close as 120 feet of water. The sizes are decent so far and when the weather allows they are definitely worth going after. The bottom bite is also producing this week. Amberjack have turned up from roughly 90 feet of water out of the Indian River area. Sandbar Sharks can also be found swimming offshore, but most anglers are avoiding them while targeting Ajs during the few opportunities they have. Swimming above, anglers are excited to see Kings making their way closer to shore. It shouldn’t be long before they are nearshore. Target them on the troll as they have been quite active over the past week.

INSHORE – Tripletail are in the port on the buoy lines. The inlet is holding a hot Snook (Snook, Common) bite into this week. Monster Bluefish are also around. They are New Jersey Bluefish holding up here and they are up to 20 pounds in big schools which is rare for the area. This time of year they are normally hot however they are usually up to 5 pounds. The big fish just seem to have taken a break on their way up. They will likely continue their move soon. Cobia are a bit scattered but anglers are hooking a few free swimmers here and there.

OFFSHORE – Dolphin fishing has begun to pick up from 150 to 200 feet of water, look for weedlines. Tuna are hot for anglers heading to the other side. Yellowfin (Tuna, Yellowfin) in particular are decent sizes as we head to the West side of the Gulf Stream and the bite is great.

Indian / Sebastian River Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is a superb variety of fish to be taken inshore this week. The Trout in particular are the main bite so far. The early morning and late evening bite has been, hands down, the best time to fish from Daytona to Port St. Lucie. A variety of setups are working to hook them including both live and artificial baits. As we move towards Titusville we see live bait being more successful. Overall there has been no trouble stacking up a few good Trout. Typically talking about Redfish goes hand in hand with Trout however this week they seem to be a bit more scattered. They are still worth targeting inshore however there are no impressive numbers to report.
Snook are a close second in terms of the hot bite. They, too, are being caught from Daytona through Port St. Lucie. They aren’t too picky in terms of what they have been taking. Artificials such as Spoolteks and Flare Hawks are working along with live Pilchards, Menhaden or Mullet. They seem to be an easy fish to land this week if you are looking for a quick catch.
The typical early Spring fish are beginning to heat up. We are seeing Sheepshead on structure, Drum in the Lagoon, along with Pompano, Bluefish and Whiting heating up on the beaches. We are also seeing tons of bait moving into the coastal areas. Everything is looking good to improve throughout the next few weeks and fire up a great Spring bite.

OFFSHORE – Now that we are finally seeing some nicer weather the bite is beginning to improve. Dolphin are the main catch from Daytona to Port St. Lucie. The sizes are great so far and the bite is steady. Anglers are targeting them anywhere from 150 feet of water and out, with some areas being just a bit closer in 90 feet. Anglers haven’t had any trouble hooking up the past week.
Kings are the next more prominent target into this week. They continue to show up, scattered with Cobia a bit closer to the coast. Anglers are trolling with live bait such as Ballyhoo or Cigar Minnows.
The bottom bite has been producing the usual Snapper and Amberjack anywhere from 60 feet and out. Cape Canaveral and Sebastian in particular have been hot areas to target them.

Indian / Sebastian River Fishing Report

INSHORE – Even though it’s been tough to get offshore this week there has been a fantastic bite for anglers heading to the surf or the inshore. We are seeing a nice variety of fish starting with a hot Drum bite from Daytona through Vero Beach area. As usual you can find them on structures as well as on the beaches and in the rivers. They are also taking a variety of bait setups including cut Clams, Shrimp or Fishbites. Plenty of Sheepshead are mixed in as they begin to fire up. You can fish them using similar bait setups.
As always, the typical Redfish, Trout and Snook are hanging around. Redfish seem to prefer the Island life so areas like Cucumber Island and the spoil islands will be key. Trout are improving as we move South but if you are targeting them be prepared to be heading out in the early morning for the best bite. Snook can’t seem to make up their minds so they are just about everywhere. It doesn’t take much looking to find them however hooking them will require Pinfish or Greenies this week.
Scattered reports of Flounder on the jetties as well as Pompano and Mackerel on the beach are beginning to come in and they should fire up as the weather improves. Bait is also beginning to show up which is a promising sign.

OFFSHORE – Despite tough fishing conditions there still some anglers braving the waters to take advantage of the unpressured bite. That being said, most reports are coming from closer wrecks and reefs with the bottom bite being more successful. Snapper are turning up in a variety of species this week and can be found consistently from Daytona to Vero. Head out to about 12 miles or look for ledges in 90 feet of water to find the best fish.
With the recent wind there has surprisingly been little debris floating around for Dolphin to be swimming under, so they are fairly scattered into this week. There are some nice catches turning up for anglers trolling Ballyhoo however they are nowhere near a steady bite. King Mackerel and Cobia are hit or miss throughout the region however they are out there if you are targeting them. If you can make it far enough offshore on a nice day, Sailfish have been caught out of Port St. Lucie.

Indian / Sebastian River Fishing Report

INSHORE – Snook season has been pretty good throughout the Central East Coast of Florida. The hottest bite this week was out of Ft. Pierce. Charter Captains and recreational anglers alike were finding success on live bait or jigs around bridges. Port St. Lucie saw good action in the spillway and locks, you can use shiners here. Nighttime Snook anglers are crediting most of the catches to using Windcheaters, Long As, Live Targets and also Shrimp. Pompano, when you can fish the surf, are decent from the beach in Daytona and Cocoa Beach but windy. They are also at the inlet around Ft. Peirce. Anglers are also doing well from the beach in port. St. Lucie fishing from Sandbar into the drop using goofy jigs or flare hawks. There has been Bluefish mixed in aswell. The Redfish and Trout bite has been steady, though not amazing. The best reports we had all week came from Mosquito Lagoon, where fish were tailing when the wind took a break. The bite was also good near Queen’s Cove on an outgoing tide, and Port St. Lucie saw both Trout and Redfish doing alright to the South.

OFFSHORE – Anglers saw a few bumpy days this week. We would normally expect reports on Mahi, Sailfish, Snappers and Grouper at this time of year. Blame the weather for a limited number of fishable days. Wahoo fishing was slow but should pick up out of Daytona as the full moon sets in. Amberjack have fished well from 80 to 130 feet of water. A live pinfish or other live bait sent to the bottom should do the trick. Red Snapper have been caught and released all over, especially off of Daytona. There are also a lot of reports of Kingfish caught this past week. Good numbers, combined with some poor seas, have kept a lot of angler in 60 to 90 feet of water trolling Clarkspoons, Bluerunners and Threadfins.

Sebastian / Indian River Fishing Report

INSHORE – Trout fishing has been much better here than for Northeast Florida. If you like Trout fishing with live bait, expect to get into some Snook as well. Since the water has been warm, the Snook are fired up from Daytona to anywhere south of that. Most of the big Snook have been caught in the high current areas such as inlets. There’s still some Pompano being caught from the surf throughout the region, they just aren’t on fire. Whiting are mixed in with the Pompano and you can fish some inshore structures for Sheepshead.

OFFSHORE – A few bumpy days kept the boats close and the focus on Cobia, Kings and Ajs. Cape Canaveral landings saw decent number of King Mackerel and Cobia landed this week. Most of the Kings came off of 8A or Pelican, Cobia from fishing structures. There hasn’t been much talk of Cobia on Rays yet, we’re going to have to stick to deeper water for now. It can’t hurt, however, to keep an eye out for them when fishing buoys for Tripletail. Amberjack continued to fish well when the boats could get to at least 80 feet of water. Some popular baits were live Pinfish and Pigfish.

Sebastian / Indian River Fishing Report

INSHORE – Shallow water anglers around Titusville and into Mosquito Lagoon had a few days of good Redfish, Black Drum and Trout fishing. Most of the fish were caught on the flats. Haulover Canal in particular also had a good Sheepshead bite. The beaches from New Smyrna down to Sebastian had good scatterings of Pompano and some Whiting. Southern Flounder were even caught off of Sebastian area beaches.

OFFSHORE – Private Boats and Charter Boats alike found good King Mackerel opportunities from Cape Canaveral down to Sebastian Inlet. Off of Cape Canaveral in particular, Captains reported lots of Kings being caught around 8A. The only thing that seemed to slow the fishing down was a little bit of weather.
Cobia reports were slim this week although the Palm Bay / Melbourne area did offer up some of these fish in 60 ft of water. Offshore bait had been a little lean from Daytona Beach and South towards Stuart, trolling for Dolphin only saw a few boats hooking Gaffers.

Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – Beach fishing has been decent throughout the region. Whiting, Bluefish and Pompano are being caught in good numbers up around New Smyrna Beach. As you go South towards Cocoa Beach you will begin to see more Redfish, Black Drum and Sharks such as Blacktip, Spinner and Blacknose on the beach. Palm Bay and Melbourne area in particular has a good number of Sharks chasing Whiting on the beach.
Inlet fishing from Palm Bay down to Port St. Lucie has been really productive for Snook anglers. Jack Crevalle are also being caught while Snook fishing. Most of the Jacks have been caught South of Vero beach.
Trout and Redfish haven’t been spectacular by any means however they are around any of the usual inshore flats and creeks all throughout Indian River. Shrimp, MirrOdines and DOAs will hook them.

OFFSHORE – For anyone looking to catch some Wahoo on the high speed troll they can travel to the gulf stream out of Daytona / New Smyrna area or South of Port St. Lucie. Dolphin have been really scattered. The best areas to head out of will be Palm Bay / Melbourne or farther South of Stuart. Kingfish and Sailfish have been decent when the boats can get out. Successful boats have launched out of Port Canaveral, Fort Pierce and South.
Offshore and nearshore bottom fishing was strongest from Palm Bay down to Vero Beach. Mostly Lanes and Vermillion Snapper are turning up. As you move farther South Mangroves are mixed in. Particularly off of Stuart there are plenty of catch and release Triggerfish. The only real word on Cobia came in from anglers fishing the wrecks and reefs out of Vero Beach.

INSHORE – Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have been caught around the Causeway taking pink or pink/white jigs. It doesn’t seem to matter much if the jigs are tipped or not. Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Sheepshead are there too. Live Clams, soft Clams and Fishbites are working well. Pompano are inside around the basin towards the deep area where the channels meet. Mackerel (Mackerel, King) and Bluefish can be found here as well. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are scattered but the sizes are good. If you put time in you’ll find good fish. Black Drum (Drum, Black) are consistent on Clams. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are taking topwaters and live Shrimp such as DOA soft baits and DOA Shrimp. Water clarity and conditions are nice. The upcoming North wind should improve the beach fishing. Indian River Bait and Tackle has tons of live Clams and everything you need to catch. Go Native, catch more fish! Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – Fishing has been great. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are biting off of the beach. The incoming tides and pressure changes should provide perfect conditions. The beach is hot. We are also seeing Whiting, Pompano and Sharks. Redfish and Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) have also turned up. Some days the Bluefish will be the main bite. The inlet is providing big Redfish (Drum, Red) on Croakers. Snook (Snook, Common) have turned up for sport anglers. They are taking Shrimp or Paddle Tails at the inlet. Snapper (Snapper, Cubera) and Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are mixed in taking Mud Minnows and live Shrimp. Drum (Drum, Black) are at the inlet loving live Clams. Indian River Bait and Tackle will be carrying Fresh Clams soon, so stop in and stock up on frozen, salted and fresh clams! The Sebastian Yacht Club Boat Ramp is now open on both sides and the parking lot has PLENTY of trailer parking with overflow parking as well. Native Tackle also has tons of great, fresh bait for all your fishing needs. Thanks for another great year anglers! Pro Angler is looking forward to seeing all of your great catches in 2017!

OFFSHORE – Cobia have been caught offshore with big Mackerel (Mackerel, King). The bottom bite should be productive since they haven’t been too pressured since the Hurricane. It’s just a matter of being able to get out there.

BAIT REPORT – Shrimp are still out there. Finger Mullet are scattered. They are more prominent from the inlet North. You can cast net for them. Mud Minnows are a good substitute.

Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – There’s been a lot of Sheepshead turning up. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are in the river. Wabasso Causeway along with the Basin and the inlet on the inshore side. Pompano Jigs and Goofy Jigs in pink/white are the most productive setups in combination with live Shrimp or Salt Clam and Clam Strips. It’s effective around the inlet in general while jigging. There are quite a few small Flounder (Flounder, Southern) around as well. They are hitting live Shrimp west of the bridge. Plenty of Trout have been caught on topwater plugs, MirroLures, Yo-Zuris, and soft baits such as DOA Shrimp worked around structure and lighted docks. Dead Shrimp, Clams or a combo of both are working well to hook them. Offshore has been a bit blown out. Drum (Drum, Black) are hanging around the jetties. Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – The wind is picking up this week. It’s blowing out of the Northeast. Snook (Snook, Common) are now closed. Drum (Drum, Black) and Redfish (Drum, Red) are biting. Fresh Clams at the inlet around the North Jetty is the key to hooking them. Black Drum are on the beach side and the inlet side. They are also in good numbers throughout the river. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have begun to show up. Sheepshead are around the docks taking live Shrimp, fresh Clams or Salt Clams. Wabasso Bridge is hot along with the bridge at Sebastian River for Sheepshead. There has been a lot of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) showing up on topwaters and jerkbaits. YoZuris and Rapalas are working well. Small Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are swimming the inlet. They are taking small minnows however the bigger the bait the bigger the fish. You can use a 5-6 inch silver Mullet if you can find them. Use a short 8 inch leader along with a leader lb test that is the same or just less than your main line as the Flounder don’t have serrated teeth. Then if you hang up on the bottom you just lose the hook not the whole rig. They love sandy, rocky bottom. They love Goofy Jigs in the inlet and the basin West of the bridge in the deeper area West of the channel. Drift with jigs tipped with Shrimp or Clams. This will catch other fish too. Beach fishing has been good. The Pompano and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) are loving Clams, peeled dead Shrimp and Sand Fleas. Indian River Bait and Tackle will be carrying Fresh Clams soon, so stop in and stock up on frozen, salted and fresh clams! Snook (Snook, Common) have been fantastic in the inlet on big bait Shrimp, Bucktails and various artificials. Chartreuse and Dark Green Broke-Back Bombers are productive as well. Mangroves, Sheepshead and big Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) have been caught. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have been hooked on Goofy Jigs in the basin inside the Inlet. Banana jigs tipped with Shrimp will also hook them and Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) on the drift. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are also being caught on Unfair lures in the river. MirrOlures are also productive. The Sebastians Yacht Club Boat Ramp is now open on both sides and the parking lot has PLENTY of trailer parking with overflow parking as well. Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – A lot of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), Redfish (Drum, Red), Snook (Snook, Common) inshore and Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) around the docks are all doing well. Shrimp and soft baits are doing well. A lot of Sheepshead can be found around docks taking Fiddler Crabs. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are in the inlet. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) have been caught as well. Snook are beginning to slow down. Pigfish, Pinfish and Shrimp are best to hook them along with Croaker. Catch the tide changes for the best bite. The Boat Ramp and New Parking Lot across from Native Tackle Supply is rumored to open this coming weekend. The ramp is nice because it’s shallower than the main the main street ramp. If you have a bigger boat, this will be a nice launch for you. Native Tackle Supply has all the live bait you’ll need to keep the fish on your hook! Their friendly and knowledgeable staff will put you on fish for the best best fishing experience. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – Swordfish (Billfish – Swordfish) are being caught straight east off Fort Pierce. Wahoo and Dolphin start at 120ft of water. Not many anglers are Snapper (Snapper, Vermillion) fishing. We expect the bottom bite to heat up as the temperature drops. We have also seen a few Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) turn up on naked Ballyhoo. They can be caught to the South as well. It’s shaping up to be some good fishing!

BAIT REPORT – Finger Mullet are scarce.

Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – The fishing has been good. The Snook (Snook, Common) bite is off the chain on Pinfish, live bait and artificials. Redfish (Drum, Red) are the same. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are moving in and we expect the next few weeks to be good as they are already showing up in good numbers. Mud Minnows, Finger Mullet and artificials are best. We expect Pompano (Pompano, Florida) to start in the ocean soon. They are in the river and inlet right now taking Goofy jigs and Clams.

OFFSHORE – The bottom bite is good when anglers can get out. Wahoo, Dolphin and big Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) are biting in 120 ft as well. Pulling Ballyhoo has been the best method to fish.

BAIT REPORT – You can cast net Mud Minnows. There isn’t much Mullet left.

Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Sheepshead bite has been great in the river. Search for them mid afternoon so the sun allows you to sight fish the pylons or find the big schools on the flats. Fiddler Crabs or live Sand Fleas work best. A lot of Redfish (Drum, Red) and good sized Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have been caught. As the cooler temperatures come in the Trout will get better. A popping cork with a DOA or live Shrimp works best in the early morning. Search the flats or shallower. Sebastian Inlet is producing a lot of Snook (Snook, Common) by the inlet. Drum (Drum, Black) are moving in along with the Sheepshead. There are also a lot of slot sized Redfish that are beginning to taper off as the Mullet leaves. It is still too rough to get offshore. INSHORE – Most of the action is focused on Snook (Snook, Common) at Sebastian inlet. The daytime live bait fishing with Mullet, Croakers, Pigfish, and Pinfish is great. Nighttime fishing has been plugs and jigs. The bite is pretty easy to get. There are tons of slot fish and not many over. There hasn’t been much word from the beaches as it has been windy. There are, however, some Pompano (Pompano, Florida) being caught in the surf. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks!

INSHORE – There are a few Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) turning up with Redfish this week. Finger Mullet or Live Shrimp are a good bet to hit them. Skitterwalks in calm areas are productive in the morning. Sheepshead are beginning to move in. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have also been caught in the river. If you can fish the beach there are Bluefish biting. Sebastian inlet is producing keeper Reds, slot Snook (Snook, Common), Flounder (Flounder, Southern) and a few Trout. Anglers are staying inshore this week. Beaches are blown out. The water is pretty choppy and everyone continues to clean up after the storm. INSHORE – The fishing infrastructure was negatively impacted by Hurricane Matthew. We are seeing limited beach access and closed boat ramps into this week. Those who have made it out are heading to the few open areas so far. We are seeing Shrimp working well for bait in the marinas. Reds (Drum, Red), Snook (Snook, Common) and Sheepshead are turning up it. There isn’t much activity in the river this week. There hasn’t been word from anyone braving the wind to head offshore. INSHORE – There are a lot of Trout, bait and Redfish (Drum, Red) inshore. Everything is biting. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have been biting in the river as well. They are early this year. Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) and Kings (Mackerel, King) are biting off the shore. They are within about 7 miles. They are a little early this year. Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – Fishing has been good in general. Some Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are at the inlet taking Finger Mullet. There is still a good Snapper (Snapper, Gray) bite along with lots of keeper Snook (Snook, Common) coming in. Live Croaker is the best bait however medium or hand picked Shrimp will work as well. Bucktails are productive at night. Spoolteks are working well on the beach for Snook and Jacks (Jack, Crevalle). Reds (Drum, Red) have been turning up as well. Mullet imitations and bright colors such as chartreuse in lower light conditions are producing best. Native Tackle Supply has plenty of live bait including Pinfish and a variety of Shrimp sizes. Native Tackle provide the best care for their bait, products and customers so you have a fantastic experience every visit! PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – Cobia are offshore this week on wrecks and reefs. They are swimming with Bull Sharks (Shark, Bull) that are schooled up. Jig up the Cobia and keep them away from the Sharks as they are big! If you can locate Sharks, the Cobia are always underneath them. Wrecks and reefs from 80-110ft of water are productive as usual for Cobia and for Snapper (Snapper, Mutton & Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Lane & Snapper, Vermillion). We are seeing mostly Muttons and Mangroves. Some Mahi (Dolphin) have been caught around 140ft this week. Look for weedlines and floating debris. You can also chum floating debris for Tripletail. Conditions have been great for offshore fishing!

BAIT REPORT – Tons of Finger Mullet are in the river by Mulligans. There should be some in the inlet and the beach as well. They are almost always on the surf and sometimes in the passes. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

Sharks (Shark, Blacktip & Shark, Spinner & Shark, Bull & Shark, Bonnethead & Shark, Lemon & Shark, Atlantic Sharpnose & Shark, Nurse) are just off the shore following the Mullet as well. This has made getting your whole fish landed a problem. For Red you can also search the docks and mangrove shorelines. The bridges are great areas as well for anglers who are shore fishing. Public docks are good for Redfish (Drum, Red), Snook (Snook, Common), Snapper (Snapper, Gray), Sheepshead and Croakers (Croaker, Atlantic). INSHORE – The wind is blowing steady offshore so most anglers are staying inshore. We are seeing a difficult bite in some areas however the beaches and south of the inlet has a lot of activity. Bull Reds, slot Reds (Drum, Red), big Snook (Snook, Common), Blues (Bluefish) and Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) are all biting. Sharks are hitting as usual. Conditions are difficult with the wind however the bite is good. Finger Mullet are working well as bait. Snook are preferring Croaker. Pinfish are good for Sharks and Redfish. Anything off the bottom will take it. Spoolteks and Bombers are very productive for Snook as well. Shad Imitations have also been great. Search the river around docks for Redfish, Snapper (Snapper, Gray), and Snook (Snook, Common). All the shorelines are holding some nice fish. Native Tackle Supply has live Pinfish! INSHORE – The night fishing on the North jetty is closed for the time being. It is shut down from dusk until dawn. This was a popular Snook (Snook, Common) area. The storm hasn’t seemed to be too bad in this area although the offshore is blown out. The river is the best bet for Snook, Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Reds (Drum, Red). Artificials are working well. The beach is pretty weedy. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – With this system pushing through most of Florida, we expect a lot of wind and tough conditions. They are on structures and the flats. The flats are hot in the morning and evening near depth transitions. They prefer shade during the day. The Reds (Drum, Red) are big and mixed in with some Flounder (Flounder, Southern). Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) have been hitting Clams. Clams are working well on the beach as well as Sand Fleas. The Snapper are swimming the inlet and reefs as well. INSHORE – There has been quite a bit of fish activity as the weather has been great as of lately. Snook (Snook, Common) are catch and release on the beach hitting mainly Spoolteks and Bombers. The Spoolteks are amazing in the surf, it provides a great hookset. Inlet fishing has been good. A lot of Snook, big Reds (Drum, Red) and some Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are hitting. We are seeing Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) hitting salt Clams. This is perfect as the Shrimp will be scarce this weekend for bait shops. The flats are working well for Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), Reds and Snook on structure. It has been steady fishing. The inshore reefs are holding a lot of Snapper (Snapper, Mutton & Snapper, Gray) that you can use a chum block to attract, then free lining them up with Shrimp. Use a long leader for the Muttons.

OFFSHORE – There were plenty of Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) brought in this week. We suspect there are still Dolphin swimming and anglers are using Ballyhoo to catch them. The Snapper (Snapper, Mutton, Snapper, Gray, Snapper, Lane & Snapper, Vermillion) bite is great from 80-100 ft on the reef. Grouper (Grouper, Gag) are also turning up.

INSHORE – A lot of Snook (Snook, Common) are in the inlet. Reds (Drum, Red) have shown up. Tarpon are still hanging around the North jetty. Beach fishing has been tough this week. There have not been too many reports as the Sharks (Shark, Spinner & Shark, Blacktip & Shark, Lemon) are swimming. Snook and Flounder (Flounder, Southern) can be found which is typical of the summer pattern. Finger Mullet will always work. The Mangrove (Snapper, Gray) bite is good on structure for anyone using Shrimp, gulp or gulp imitations. They are all in the river. Anglers can get a bag in a day easily. A number 2 hook with 20 lb Fluoro Leader dropped down will work. Keep moving to find them. Any live bait has been working well overall. Sharks on the beach provide a great bite on large dead Mullet or Fish heads. Any big fish head squished down will work.

OFFSHORE – From 80-100 ft the bottom bite has been on for Snapper (Snapper, Gray). They are spawning so they are stocked up on the reef. The full moon nights are the best time to fish them. During the day they move closer to shore if the thermocline shows up.

This week the Redfish are doing very well as their large numbers are giving anglers lots of opportunities to hook up. Juvenile Tarpon are also biting and doing very well this week. Shrimp still seems to be the primary bait of choice among anglers – the larger the shrimp, the better. If you are looking to catch some Snook, anglers are having success fishing for them at night. Bait such as the salty Clam that we also prepare in house remains an effective bait for catching the Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) around the beaches, Sheepshead, and Redfish.

OFFSHORE – In the offshore this week, there are a lot of Red Snappers (Snapper, Red) and Gags (Grouper, Gag) in the 120-180ft. range. Furthermore, a few Cobia have been found here and there throughout the listed water depths. A lot of anglers are using the salted Squid that we cut up here in house. Our Super squid (caught in Chile) prepped in house here (cut into pieces and brined) seems to be extremely effective for catching everything. Using the squid as a trailer on a bucktail jig is your best bet to catching some Cobia. Be sure to straight-shot your bait down in order to catch Gags so that the Snappers don’t get it first. Similar to last week, reef fishing both close and farther out is excellent, making it perfect to fish out of the inlet.

Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – We have been seeing a lot of slot-sized Snook (Snook, Common) in the area over the last 2 weeks, especially at night. The Snook seem to be attracted to any kind of bait but the best results are seen if Shrimp (large or small) is used. If an alternative bait is being used, it seems that the larger baits attract more bites. The Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) catches on the beach have been excellent with a few intermittent Pompano (Pompano, Florida). In the river, the action has been really good, especially in the eastern and western shorelines. There is a lot of Mullet on the west side of the river, north of the inlet with lots of bait available and excellent water conditions. The salty clam that we prepare works for the whiting (especially around the beaches), Sheepshead, and Drum.

OFFSHORE – Mangroves (Snapper, Gary) seem to be biting, especially in 60 to 80 ft. water coming in at 8-9 lbs. They are coming right up to the boat through the water column with the chum. There’s also Cobia out there so keep an eye out and have an extra rod rigged up. Reef fishing both close and farther out is excellent, making it perfect to fish out of the inlet. Super squid (caught in Chile) prepped in house here (cut into pieces and brined) seems to be extremely effective for catching everything. You can easily get 3-4 Mangrove Snappers per bait as the little fish aren’t able to eat the bait off due to its super-tough durability.

OFFSHORE – The Mahi (Dolphin) are on this week! Ballyhoo has done well to hook them. Black bars on the troll are also very productive. 40 miles out has been the ideal place to search for Mahi. The bite is consistent and the sizes are great. We expect this to continue into the weekend.

INSHORE – Winds have been blowing all week and the NOAA has issued small craft warnings for most of the week and the bite has been slow. Captain Ryan Dean tells us that Reds (Drum, Red)- some slot, some catch and release – are biting on incoming tide and Snook (Snook, Common) on outgoing tide at the Inlet. Bluefish are showing and our anglers are using spoons. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) continues to show, as well as some Whiting (Kingfish, Southern), and are hitting solidly on our Native Salt Clam. We are seeing Jacks (Jack, Crevalle), Black Drum (Drum, Black) and Sheepshead, as well as, Ladyfish. Live Shrimp is the preferred bait for Snook. Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – The anglers in this area have not noticed a change from the fish kill lately being close to the inlet. The water is murky due to the weather however the fishing is still decent. We are seeing big Redfish (Drum, Red) in the channel and Croakers off the beach. The inshore reefs are holding some great Snapper (Snapper, Lane & Snapper, Mutton & Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail). The bite is consistent and there is a great accumulation of fish so far. Anglers are catching most fish on jigs and are chumming to get them excited. It’s a great place to fish as you can anchor up in these areas and spend some time fishing one spot.

OFFSHORE – When anglers can get out there are some great fish to be caught this week.

BAIT REPORT – Croakers are turning up off the beach this week.

Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – For anglers drifting both tides, the inlet channel area west of the US1 bridge is producing good numbers of Pompano (Pompano, Florida). Doc’s Goofy Jigs, either with or without pieces of Shrimp and clam added to the hook have been the hot ticket. Work jigs along with or cross-current, bouncing bottom as best as possible whilst trying to avoid numerous hangs. Snook (Snook, Common) are also being taken on west channel drifts on both tides. Croakers caught in 60 ft on Clams or Shrimp chunks are consistent producers. Night jigging with Bucktails gives a good upper body workout, as well as whack your rod with a stick, reel screaming hook-ups on large Snook, Reds (Drum, Red), and Jack Crevalle (Jack, Crevalle). Bring a bridge net! Plenty of Catfish (Catfish, Gafftopsail) and Bluefish on the beach, along with nice bags of Pompano, Whiting (Kingfish, Southern), eating Drum (Drum, Black), and Sharks. Live or blanched and frozen Sand fleas, along with Clams and Native Salt Clam have been the best bait for catching whatever is swimming by. Good water clarity in the Indian River area adjacent to the Inlet has led to much improved catches of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray), Sheepshead, eating Drum, and all of the other species that populate our local shoreline and dock areas. Live shrimp, worked on small hooks near pilings and structure are a tried and true method of catching resident fish. DOA soft baits, and topwater lures are also effective.

OFFSHORE – Offshore you can expect to see Spinner Sharks (Shark, Spinner) that are migrating.Use long leaders and big live Mullet to improve spinner landings. We also have reports of Cobia at 60 ft and Mahi at 120 ft?. We are looking forward to more offshore reports this coming week.

Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – ?This week in Sebastian brings wonderful weather, smooth seas and great angling. The Snook, Common bite is on and our anglers are meeting their daily slots. Live Shrimp is the preferred bait for Snook. Also coming over the rails are Reds (Drum, Red), Black Drum (Drum, Black), Ladyfish and Jacks (Jack, Crevalle). Also biting are Blues and Spanish Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish)?, ?as well as, Sheepshead, Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). Sheepshead, Whiting, Pompano, and Black Drum love the Native Salt Clam bait which is exclusive to Native Tackle. Also spotted at the Inlet this week were a few Atlantic Spadefish (Spadefish, Atlantic). Sheepshead tend to forage near the pilings of the jetties and catwalks. Our water quality here is much better than north and south of us. At Native Tackle, we provide Native Salt Clam which are hand-trimmed Northern Clams so that you get only the foot and mouth of the clam. No guts, no muscle, no waste. Each package of clams are salted with our proprietary blend of salts for better storage with little-to-no refrigeration. We have had reports that our anglers prefer our salt clam when they are targeting Pompano, Black Drum, Sheepshead and more. (For your convenience, our Native Salt Clam are available for online purchase and shipping to your location.) We carry live Florida Gulf Shrimp, live Mud Minnows, and an assortment of frozen baits. Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – We are happy to report that ?it has been a very exciting week at the Inlet. Although high winds have returned the bite is on! We have had some unusual catches this week as you can see from the pictures. Our associate, Jim Kraft, an avid Snook angler that fishes the State Park Inlet at night, landed a 30.5 inch Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) that weighed in at 10.25 lbs. It is very unusual catch for Sebastian, Florida because this species usually runs much further north than Florida. Another exciting and unusual catch this week was brought into the shop yesterday by our customer Jim, who brought in his 7lb Snapper, Cubera (Take a look at the teeth on this beauty!). Both our associate Jim and our customer Jim caught their prize fish on live Florida Gulf Shrimp, courtesy of Native Tackle. ?Reports of slot Snook (Snook, Common), Reds (Drum, Red), Blues (Bluefish), Black Drum (Drum, Black), and Sheepshead? at the Inlet continue. Despite the high winds, surf fishing at our beautiful area beaches has shown a strong Pompano (Pompano, Florida) bite, as well as, Whiting (Kingfish, Southern). Take a look at our customer Eddie Riga and his Pompano catch of yesterday! The winds are higher than normal but the bite is on and fishing is good. Live Shrimp, Salt Clams, and frozen clams are the bait of choice right now. We also carry live Mud Minnows (great for Flounder/Fluke) and bottom fishing, and a wide variety of frozen baits. You may also want to try our tried and proven Doc’s Goofy Jigs. At Native Tackle, we support our local fishing club, The Sebastian Fishing Club, and welcome you to visit both our Facebook page (Native Tackle Supply) to see the latest catches, and The Sebastian Fishing Club’s Facebook page.

OFFSHORE – Offshore you can expect to see Spinner Sharks (Shark, Spinner) that are migrating, as well as Bonnet Heads. ?Our offshore fishing is limited due to high winds and surf advisories but as soon as we receive the latest information, we will provide it to you.?

INSHORE – Due to high winds this season, our fishing has been limited, but if you are willing to weather the winds you can certainly reel in Pompano and Whiting at surf. At the Indian River Lagoon, Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are making a steady appearance on the grass flats. Snook, Common are in abundance at the Sebastian State Park and if you visit our Facebook page, you will see several catches of slots. Reds (Drum, Red), Black Drum (Drum, Black), Pompano (Pompano, Florida), Snook and a few Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) are to be found at the Inlet and surrounding areas. INSHORE – Pompano (Pompano, Florida), Drum (Drum, Red) and Sheepshead are hitting live and frozen Shrimp, Clams, Sand Fleas and our exclusive NT SALT CLAM. Blues (Bluefish) are a good bet from shore. Cut bait, spoons, jigs, and stick/diamond lures are producing consistently. Blacktip Sharks (Shark, Blacktip) are making their annual migratory appearance in our surf and nearshore waters. Mullet heads, Jack Crevalle (Jack, Crevalle) and Skate (Skate, Winter) chunks fished on cable with an 8/0 hook will produce hits. For targeting Spinner Shark (Shark, Spinner) heavy monofilament leader and live 6 to 8 inch Mullet work best. Captain Ryan Dean reports that he caught over a dozen nice Triggerfish, Gray on our inshore reefs, offshore the inlet. NT SALT CLAM was the bait of choice for Captain Dean. He reports that NT SALT CLAM out-fished chunk bait 3 to 1. Get your SALT CLAM bait NOW!!! Native Tackle now has it’s very own and exclusive SALT CLAM bait to target Pompano, Whiting, Drum, Sheepshead, Permit, and more. Only the foot and mouth of the clam are used; no guts, no muscle, no waste. The clam stays on your hook longer and is packaged in a resealable container. You can easily double your yield by cutting pieces in half. Once used, you simply store your leftovers in your refrigerator or freezer. These clams are available for shipping so call 772-228-6040 right away. Only $6.99 per bag. At Native Tackle, we pride ourselves on customer service and community participation. Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – With the weather cooperating, our anglers have been enjoying being back on their games. SNOOK SEASON IS OPEN! Snook, Common season opened Feb. 1, 2016, and they are definitely showing. Keep in mind the regulations for the Atlantic (excluding Monroe County): Catch must be not less than 28 inches and not more than 32 inches. Season is open through May 31, 2016. Each angler is permitted one (1) catch per day and you must hold a Snook license when fishing in saltwater. Our FWC (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission) officers are on their game so please be certain to have your Snook license with you when you are fishing. Snook, Black Drum (Drum, Black), Pompano (Pompano, Florida), Blues (Bluefish), Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) and Reds (Drum, Red). At Native Tackle we prepare our very own salted Clams which are great bait for most any species but especially Black Drum, Pompano, and Sheepshead. And, you can always get nice live Shrimp for your Snook and Reds, also use bucktails for best results. Several slot Snook are being caught off of the north jetty at the State Park. There have also been bites of Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). Anglers also use Sand Fleas to attract Pompano off of the beaches. We are told that anglers fishing west of the A1A bridge have had some luck with Flounder this past week.

OFFSHORE – Captain Mike came to visit yesterday to let us know that Tuna, Blackfin are running. He was able to land 2 Tuna, one at 25 lbs and one at 32 lbs in approximately 127 ft Northwest. Also running are Mackerel, Spanish. We finally have some great weather so stop in, get your bait and head out for a great day of fishing.

INSHORE – The surf has been full of Pompano, Florida and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) this week and they can be caught on fresh, dead Shrimp, live Clams and Fish Bites. They are hungry and not picky. The Sebastian inlet has a great mixed bag of fish including Drum (Drum, Black) that can be caught on fresh, dead Shrimp or clams. There has also been reports of Reds (Drum, Red) and Snook, Common that are loving any live bait or bucktails. The Flounder (Flounder, Gulf & Flounder, Southern) that are swimming are beginning to become spotty however the sizes are still good. They are loving live Mud Minnows and can be found on the inside with the Reds, Snook and Drum. Mackerel, Spanish and Bluefish are mixed in the area as well. Blues are loving spoons while Mackerel are chasing casting jigs. There are lots of fish to be found in this area so far this week. Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – Once again this week, the weather’s not cooperating for those who are here to fish. El Nino brings a cold front with rain and high winds this week, expecting to clear and warm up Thursday-Friday. The good news is that with the cold front, it should begin to cool the waters in the Inlet and the Indian River so that the fish will really begin to show. Not bad fishing though! If you can bear the winds and a bit of rain, you will likely catch yourself a nice sized Sheepshead! Also on bite are Black Drum (Drum, Black), Pompano (Pompano, Florida), Bluefish, Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish), Flounder (Flounder, Southern), Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), and Snook (C/R) (Snook, Common). Blues and Mackerels are easily lured with spoons, while most other species prefer live Shrimp. If you are hoping to catch some Flounder, Ed Perry of the Sebastian Inlet State Park advised recently in a seminar to use a short leader. At Native Tackle, we carry live Mud Minnows, which are the preferred bait for Flounder (until mullet return after spawning offshore). Reports of Pompano at the Beach are surfacing. Pompano love Doc’s Goofy Jigs! If you haven’t tried a Doc’s jig you won’t be disappointed. We carry a wide assortment of colors and sizes. Happy 2016 to all! Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – The water clarity has improved greatly in the near inlet river waters leading to increased Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) and Sheepshead activity. Larger Sheephead are near pilings and docks and love live Shrimp or live Fiddler Crab fished near structure, preferably scraped, on a 1/0 and smaller hook, light leader and split shots. Lots of fish like this presentation including Redfish (Drum, Red) and Snook (Snook, Common). Get ready for dockside battles and bring a landing net. The easiest thing to catch at the Inlet right now is an “attitude.” Incredibly good all around bite is drawing lots of anglers competing for fish and space. A calm attitude and respect for fellow anglers makes for an enjoyable experience for everyone. All of us at Native Tackle love fishing the Inlet, and right now is prime time.BEACH FISHING will bring Pompano, Florida, Drum, Black, Whiting (Kingfish, Southern), and Reds, along with many other species, the quality of which will depend – as is most often the case – on weather conditions. You can also access the Sebastian Inlet District web site for any additional information you seek. Native Tackle Supply is located across the street from the Sebastian Yacht Club, and conveniently near the public boat ramps and public parking. We pride ourselves on customer service and encourage you to ask questions about local fishing. We can recommend proper hook sizes for fishing the inlet or in the Indian River lagoon; proper line weight, jigs, lures, bait, etc. Just a reminder that we also encourage our customers to join the Sebastian Fishing Club to meet ‘n’ greet fellow anglers and share information. (The cookies and coffee aren’t bad either!) The fishing club also has a FaceBook page under Sebastian Fishing Club. The Sebastian Fishing Club of the Month “catch” is Pompano. The winner of the largest Pompano will win prizes. You must be a member of the Club and weigh-in at Native Tackle to become eligible for prizes. The next meeting is January 27, 2016, and Captain Ryan Dean will be speaking. Best wishes for a bright and peaceful 2016! Happy New Year to All!

OFFSHORE – The offshore has been bumpy lately due to our weather. Much of the offshore angling will be going on over the holiday weekend, even with the southerly breeze. Check our website or stop by the shop for a report and some pointers too, if you like.

Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) are finally moving in along with Pompano, Florida. There are also some catch and release Snook, Common still available. Reds (Drum, Red) and Drum (Drum, Black) are hitting well coming up in great numbers and sizes. They are loving Shrimp this week or a soft plastic shrimp. Native Tackle Supply will be closed on Christmas and resume business Boxing Day.

OFFSHORE – There are limited bites offshore due to winds. There have been no reports so far from this area as conditions have been too unfavorable to hit the water. We hope once things settle down the previous bite will pick up. Should conditions settle down and anglers head out for the holiday you can always check out our Fish Guide for more information on how to catch.

Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – There are quite a few fish throughout the inshore this week. Anglers are seeing Drum (Drum, Black) swimming by the jetties with a great bite so far. Clams and dead Shrimp are the bait of choice. There are also Bluefish and Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) in the same areas however they are not picky and will hit just about anything anglers throw. The Red (Drum, Red) and Snook, Common bite are expected to heat up once the wind gets a bit stronger. Wind mixed with cooler weather will have them moving well. As of now the bite is somewhat spotty. There are Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) in the shallow water as well however this bite has not been frequent. They are there however anglers have to put their time in to find them.

Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – The weather has not produced ideal conditions for fishermen this week however there are still plenty of anglers who have made their way to Mosquito Lagoon. Water is high and dirty. This has cause the fish to be spread pretty thin. Anglers will need to cover a lot of water to find fish. Reds (Drum, Red) have been hitting fairly well coming up in both decent sizes and numbers. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have started to become a little more frequent as the weather has cooled down. We are still not seeing lots of big Trout at this point but they are expected to start turning up soon. Snook have been found in the shallower water this week around structures. They have started to become a little more spotty as anglers are having a bit more trouble finding them. There are some Black Drum mixed in however this bite has been very spotty and most anglers are not targeting them. Fishermen with boats are heading a bit farther out into the nearshore to find some Gray Snapper swimming along the bottom. Being that the water is so dark in the Lagoon, anglers are heading out in the early morning or late into the evening with live Shrimp under a cork or free lining live Mullet. Avoid using artificials with the current water conditions in Mosquito Lagoon. Live baits have produced the best results so far. The midday bite has been almost absent as no lure seems to attract them due to the deep water and spread out fish. Once the temperature drops we expect to see bigger sizes of Trout and Reds in the next few weeks.

INSHORE – Improving winds and sea conditions have allowed anglers the opportunity to capitalize on the fall bite. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) and Drum (Drum, Red) are making their annual appearance at the Inlet and surrounding areas. Flounder and Drum are taking Mud Minnows, as well as Finger Mullet, Live Shrimp and Clams. High-tide Tarpon action has been reported at both the South and North jetties, although the Snook, Common bite has slowed somewhat. With our water temps starting to lower, we expect that the Black Drum (Drum, Black) and Sheepshead bite will pick up shortly. Offshore angling has been limited due to the recent cold front passing through that created high winds, high seas and daily small craft warnings. We expect the weather pattern to change over the course of the next week and hope to have more to report soon. Native Tackle Supply, LLC is located directly across the street from the Sebastian Yacht Club and the public boat ramps. We also support our local community fishing club, The Sebastian Fishing Club. We encourage our seasonal and resident anglers to join the Club for informational meetings and a meet n’ greet of fellow anglers. Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE – Winds have been blowing all week and the NOAA has issued small craft warnings for most of the week, however, the bite is ON at the Inlet. We have had reports of Snook, Snook, Snook – slot and C/R – coming over the rails at the inlet. In addition to Snook, Common, we are seeing Jacks (Jack, Crevalle), Reds (Drum, Red), Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish), Margate, and Flounder (Flounder, Southern). With the water temperatures starting to cool down, we can anticipate the Black Drum (Drum, Black) and Sheepshead bite to pick up.

OFFSHORE – Offshore action has been limited this week due to the high winds and spots of rain which are expected to last through the next few days.

BAIT REPORT – Live shrimp is the preferred bait for Snook. They love it…..but fortunately, so do a lot of other species. As true with this season we are starting to see a decline in live mullet both at the Inlet and in the River, however, don’t hesitate to throw your nets for what be remaining. During the fall, the mullet begin to school together (males and females) preparing for the ocean migration offshore to spawn. We do expect to see them back in the River and the Inlet come Winter and again in Spring. Native Tackle Supply, LLC is located across the street from the Sebastian Yacht Club and the public boat ramps on Indian River Drive. Ample complimentary parking is provided near the ramps for your convenience. Native has a full line of frozen baits and we have live Florida Gulf shrimp seven days a week. INSHORE – The inlets have been pretty active as of late. Snook, Common and Reds (Drum, Red) have been good on the beach and should continue through the weekend if the wind from the incoming front isn’t too bad. They are all loving live Shrimp which is fantastic as they are running thick right now. Great conditions are expected over the next month before the cold weather really sets in.

BAIT REPORT – The Mullet run is over and they are all gone. Jumbo Shrimp, Pinfish and Croakers are all running and can be caught hook and line fairly easily.

We have reports of Reds, Jacks, Snook, Trout, Pompano and some Black Drum.

Our customers and Captains are reporting Spanish Mackerel and Mahi-Mahi at offshore at 60′. Shark, Blues and Tarpon have also been spotted. Blues, Flounder and Tarpon at the beach.

Sebastian Fishing Report

Even though Hurricane Joaquin is unpredictable, right now it looks as though it will avoid much of Southeast Florida. The majority of the reports that we are receiving are that the hurricane will stay offshore which will create unusually high winds and seas. Currently, winds are blowing out of the Northwest at 6mph, gusting to 11mph and the water has a moderate chop. This could change over the course of the next few days, however, we are expecting a nice weekend for inshore fishing.

SEBASTIAN INLET/INSHORE:

This morning the north jetty has been crowded with anglers reeling in Reds. Oversized and slot Snook, which are hitting Mullet and live shrimp. Big Jacks, Blues, Tarpon, Trout, Spanish Mackerel and even a few Flounder have been caught in the Inlet. Yesterday was a big day for Reds, Snook, Jacks, Blues, Trout, Tarpon, Margate, Spanish Mackerel and Ladyfish. A few reports of decent Flounder catches coming on Finger Mullet, with a few 8 to 10 pounders in the mix. Heavy wave action and moderate winds will make for challenging conditions in some areas, yet are not expected to slow this fall feeding fiesta. Don’t neglect the night bite, when Windcheaters, big Bombers, and Bucktails draw hard hits from slot and trophy sized Snook and Reds. A good landing net will save lots of trouble bringing in feisty fish around treacherous rocks and strong wind driven waves and tidal current.

Look for wind sheltered water and the deep side of sand bars for good catches of slot reds and keeper trout. Live shrimp, DOA Shrimp, Gold spoons, and of course live Finger Mullet and Moharra have all yielded rod bending action through out our area. Wading docks and pitching at stucture is a good bet on the west bank of the Indian River during a Westerly blow like we expect this weekend. Mangrove Snapper catches have slowed a bit this past month yet are still being taken on live and dead bait, especially shrimp and moharras, and smallish finger mullet. The lighter the terminal tackle the better for snapper as these fish have keen eye site and are hook shy.

Beaches will remain blown out with lumpy swells. Better chance of walking the beach and finding some sea beans or cool flotsam and jetsam than catching a fish if the surf line is messy.

It’s our pleasure at Native Tackle to provide this fishing report. This report was written by Killian, one of our associates here at Native Tackle. Our other three associates, Angela, Jim and Ron, also pride themselves on customer service. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. Have a great fishing week!

Indian River Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Cobia are running at 90′ using chum blocks. There are also a good number of Kingfish, Triggerfish, Bonita and Shark biting. Both Tiger shark and Bull shark are giving our anglers a run. Captain Rick Marchetti, of Surf Rider, told us that two Tiger sharks brought his anglers good luck, and a limit of big Cobia when they swam up behind his boat last Sunday. INSHORE – Snapper, Reds and Snook are showing up in the bite at the Inlet. Mangrove, Mutton and Vermillion Snapper can be found inshore around structure and in the inlet channel, as well as Reds, Pompano, Flounder, Tripletail, Jack, and Trout. Mangrove shorelines and flats call for early fishing for Reds, Snapper and Trout on live pig fish, pin fish and artificials. Work dropoffs in the afternoon. Snook are best caught at night using live shrimp. Everyone fishing for Snapper and Snook landed their limits.
Bait fish such as finger mullet, mojarra and greenies are schooling at the inlet. Anglers tossing 1 1/2 ounce silver spoons are getting a few good hookups. We recommend using a “Tim Wade” cast net to catch live bait fish. Tim’s nets are custom made and handcrafted with the best materials available. Tim can make your net to order with extra weights or specific sizes.

Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE: In the river, mangrove snapper catches are consistent around structure. Trout and Reds are feeding on the flats early on lures, jigs, and live bait. Later in the day, search out deep water and try chunk bait or jigs. Inlet catches have been spotty. Mangroves and C/R Snook have been the best bet. Use live shrimp or shrimp tipped Doc’s Goofy Jigs for good results.

OFFSHORE: Snapper bite is on, Cobia still holding out to 90′, where Dolphin bite is happening around nice weed lines.

BEACH: On the beach, C/R Snook are biting live spots, pigs, and artificials. Snook are often found very close to shore. Avoid overcasting and target dawn and dusk low light conditions for best action.

Snook season opens September 1, 2015. At Native Tackle, we are looking forward to a Snooksational season! Keep in mind that we offer rod and reel repair and we have a wide assortment of combos that just arrived.

KAYAK RAFFLE: We are raffling off a Calcutta Tandem Kayak with two oars, two seats and an anchor. Tickets are only $20 and only 40 tickets will be sold. The raffle takes place October 3rd at 1pm and you need not be present to win! Call 772-228-6040 to see how you can participate.

Sebastian Fishing Report

INSHORE (SEBASTIAN INLET): The action remains slow for the Inlet at Sebastian, however, we have had some reports of Redfish, Mangrove, Vermillion and Mutton Snapper, as well as a few Spotted Trout. We have also had reports that Flounder are now showing up in the Inlet. Live shrimp are your best bait choice. Remember: Snook season is currently closed. Catch and Release only.

OFFSHORE (SEBASTIAN): Offshore are scattered Cobia out to 60′, Mangrove and Mutton Snapper (90′-130′), Shark (off the beach) and a few Dolphin. Bottom fishing continues to be slow due to the cold water upwelling. Our captains are currently using live shrimp and threadfin herring (greenies). Jack Yolinsky, our first customer of the day, stopped in to tell us that on his first launch of his new boat he caught a Sailfish in about 120′ of water. Jack also caught Bonita, Barracuda, and Cobia. Good for you Jack! What a great way to christen your new boat!

Our team at Native Tackle will provide you with local fishing knowledge, as well as tackle and gear to enhance your angling experience. Native Tackle offers local expert rod and reel repair at reasonable pricing with a quick turn-around time.

We carry an assortment of frozen baits and also have our best seller, live (and frozen) Florida Gulf Shrimp. Feel free to stop in at your convenience for your angling needs or just to get the latest fishing information.

LOOKING FORWARD: Lobster season opens August 6, 2015 through March 31, 2016. You will need a saltwater fishing license with the $5 lobster stamp to be in compliance with the FWC. Of course, we have lobster kits, snares and ticklers.

August 31st at 12:01 a.m. (September 1st), is the opening of Snook season. We are stocking up our lures and terminal tackle for the opening of Snook season. One of the all-time favourite seasons here in Sebastian. Our anglers are using 25# mono leader with 30# braid. As for bait, during the daytime your best bet is live shrimp. Our nighttime anglers use buck tails and wind cheaters, as well as live shrimp and bait fish. Hook size will vary from a size 1 to a size 2/0 depending on the bait that you use.

Sebastian / Indian River Fishing Report

INSHORE – Angela at Native Tackle Supply has been seeing a good number of Redfish caught inshore on live shrimp. You can also use the DOA and Gulp Shrimp. Some great fishing is to be had underneath the mangroves on the high tide. Typical of summer our anglers are catching reds, black drum, sheepshead, snook (release), trouts, jack, and some pompano. Our Captains report catches of Bonita and Jack near the Spoil Islands.

OFFSHORE – The ever changing water temperature due to the thermocline has made the bottom fishing a little slow. There are still big fish out there. Amberjacks, Vermillion Snapper and Mangrove Snapper are all down 90 or so feet, but the cooler water keeps them under the rocks. Slow troll with jigs or live bait for Kings and Dolphin in 90-100 feet of water has been excellent. The Cobia and Kingfish are closer in at 60 feet of water. Of course, shark are in the inlet and they love to eat your bait or your catch.

LOBSTER SEASON COMING – July 29-30th is lobster mini-season for sport diving. The regular season opens August 6, 2015 through March 31, 2016. During the pre-season (July 29-30), the bag limit is 12 per person in Indian River County. A saltwater license is required with a $5 lobster stamp. BAIT REPORT – Bait run is scattered but there is Mullet, Mahara, Pigfish, and Pinfish.

Sebastian / Indian River Fishing Report

INSHORE – Jenna over at Native Tackle Supply has been seeing a good number of Redfish caught inshore on the DOA, and Gulp Shrimp – but if you prefer live bait then work either Shrimp or Mullet. Some great fishing is to be had underneath the mangroves on the high tide. That is when you find most of the slot redfish. The trout is biting near the spoil islands straight out ahead from there shop at Mile Marker (MM) 76; make sure you bring some shrimp.

OFFSHORE – The thermocline has made the bottom fishing a little slow.

BAIT REPORT – Bait run is scattered but there is Mullet, Mahara, Pigfish, and Pinfish. A lot of Snapper, Black Drum and Sheepshead are inside of the inlet.

Give Jenna a visit, they are across from Mulligan’s Beach House and the double boat ramp. They sell live Shrimp, Pigfish, and Pinfish depending on what is available of course. They also do rod and reel repair.

Indian River / Sebastian Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Just like the inshore the Mangrove Snapper is hot! You’ll find them in about 85-90 feet of water. People are chumming them right up to the boat! There are also some Triggerfish and Cobia out there. Live bait is ideal for these fish. Live Pilchards and Pogies are doing well you can also use Squid. For the Kingfish you’ll want to troll a cut bait. The Dolphin is on it’s way out but there are still a few small ones left that haven’t headed north yet.

INSHORE- Inshore the bite is hot on all kinds of fish. The Mangrove Snapper is the best it has been in 42 years according to Jenna of Native Tackle Supply LLC. Coming into the Inlet, Labaso Bridge and Barefoot Bay there are a lot of little Lane Snapper and Mangrove Snapper. There are also some 18-19 inch Black Drum, 7-8 pound Flounder and Tripletail. Spoil Islands have been extremely productive for black Drum and Red drum. The Snook, which is out of season is also biting. If you catch one of them make sure to throw it back. The Tarpon bite is also really hot. In the inlet Trout have been pouring in as well as a few Pompano. Towards the beach you’ll find Whiting and Perch. A lot of people are using Shrimp inshore but soft baits have been doing really well as well. Jenna recommends using DOA Silver Mullet or a Monster 3X Shrimp paired with a non barbed weight that is no bigger than 3/8 oz.

BAIT REPORT- There are some Pinfish, Mullet, Threadfin Herring, Pogies and Pogies.

Native Tackle Supply LLC is located across from the double ramp across from Mulligan’s Beach House and they are open 7 days a week.

West Palm Beach / Sebastian Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Captain George of Mad Son Fishing Charters is reporting that you’ll find Snapper, Mutton, Yellowtail and Kingfish in 80-90 feet of water. Anglers have been finding success using dead Spanish Sardines on a slider rig as their bait. If you’re more into trolling live bait like Threadfin Herring and Sardines will grab some nice Tuna. There is also some Dolphin out there, which almost always take ballyhoo.

INSHORE – Captain George does a lot of travel fishing, and this last weekend he was in Sebastian where he notes that the Redfish and Trout was slow over the weekend. Looking ahead, trying using artificial DOA shad Tails in new penny on an ⅛ oz jig.
