Santa Barbara Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Good afternoon anglers. We got off the dock with 24 anglers. With the extremely scratchy fishing at the islands we headed up the coast to check out something different. Our morning started out decently steady on Reds on Coppers. We looked at a few different areas and found relatively similar fishing on each one. Unfortunately around noon our fishing came to a halt and it was very difficult to get a bite the rest of the day. Our anglers did a great job and stuck with it and fished every spot until we headed for home. Our 24 anglers managed to capture 154 Reds, 39 Coppers, 10 misc. Rockfish and 1 Lingcod. The Coral Sea still needs some people to make it tomorrow on a 1/2 Day trip while the Stardust is a for sure go 3/4 Day fishing with a light load and beautiful weather. Please call Sea Landing at 805-963-3564 for a reservation or visit our website to book online. (Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Yellowtail & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Starry & Rockfish, Widow & Lingcod & Sheepshead, California)

OFFSHORE – Hello anglers, we are still underway for the dock with our 23 anglers relaxing and enjoying some food while the crew finishes processing our days catch and cleaning up the boat. We finally got a small break in the weather and decided to head to the islands to see how things were. We dealt with a few challenges throughout the day with a big swell and strong current at times. We were fortunate enough to stub our toe on a couple stones that gave us the majority of what we have on board. Every other spot however would give us 4-10 fish and some would yield nothing. Our group stuck with it all day and in the end everyone has some really good quality fish to take home. After many stops and a lot of winding our 23 anglers ended the day with 46 Reds, 127 Coppers, 11 misc. Rockfish, 7 Whitefish, 1 Sheephead (Sheepshead, California) and 13 Lingcod. (Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Yellowtail & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Starry & Rockfish, Widow & Lingcod & Sheepshead, California)

Santa Barbara Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Boats have been dockside due to some recent weather however the latest reports when anglers are able to hit the was have been productive. We are heading in with flat calm weather as the crew processes the day’s catch after a nice day of fishing at Santa Rosa island today. We spent our morning in the shallower water and had decently steady action on the Whitefish for about an hour until the current changed. The rest of our day we spent searching in the deeper water for the Reds and Copper Rockfish. Although fishing was scratchy our 24 anglers did a great job and stuck with it until we kicked it for home. Our 24 anglers ended the day with 41 Reds, 107 Copper Rockfish, 68 misc. Rockfish, 121 Whitefish, 2 Lingcod and 1 Sheephead. Santa Barbara Fishing Report

INSHORE – Hello everyone, Corey here with your stardust 3/4 day report. We stayed along the coast today with a windy forecast at the islands. We headed straight to the deeper water and found decent fishing right off the bat. We caught lots of Reds and some mixed Rockfish off each spot. Our fishing around 11am really picked up and we put on a ton of extremely nice quality reds and filled everyone’s limit with them to end the day. Overall it was a great day of fishing with beautiful weather and our passengers are stoked to be heading home a little early with excellent bags of fish. For our 12 anglers we got 100 Reds and 20 assorted Rockfish. The stardust still has some room for tomorrow’s 3/4 day trip. Feel free to book spots now for upcoming trips on our website or call the Sealanding at 8059633564. Santa Barbara Fishing Report

INSHORE – Good afternoon folks.. We are still on our way in with our 21 anglers on board enjoying some food and the beautiful weather. We had a trying morning in between the islands today with very little mark on everything we drove over. After covering some area I opted to move up the island and we were able to find some stones that were ready to bite. Some areas were fast paced action while others were a slow pick on mixed Rockfish with Reds, Coppers, Bocaccio and Yellowtail Rockfish making there way into the bags. We spent the last bit of time we had looking for Whitefish and were only able to get a few. When we set course for home our 21 anglers ended up with 73 Reds, 45 Coppers, 92 mixed Rockfish, 6 Whitefish and 10 Lingcod. (Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Yellowtail & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Starry & Rockfish, Widow & Lingcod)

OFFSHORE – Hello everybody, here is your 3/4 day report for the stardust. We had beautiful weather conditions today and headed across to Santa Rosa island. We fished mostly in the deeper water range and caught very nice Reds and Chucks in the morning. We jumped around a lot through the mid day in search of biting fish but only found a few spots willing to participate. Our later afternoon fishing was decent with one spot that kicked out over 50 fish of various species, all very nice quality. In the end for our 29 anglers we caught 80 Reds, 130 Chucklehead and 30 Misc. Rockfish and 10 Lingcod. INSHORE – The surf is producing Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) on Lucky Craft Lures. THis is also hooking Perch (Surfperch, Barred). They are preferring Sandworms and Lugworms as well. In Rocky and structured areas we are seeing Rockfish (Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Blue). The pier is shut down due to weather related damages. INSHORE – Despite the upcoming rain a few anglers are still able to hit the water. Normally at this time of year the Halibut (Halibut, California) are moving in to spawn. Bounce Ball a live bait to hook them. Calicos (Bass, Calico) are just off the shore. They are taking well to nice plastics such as Big Hammers. Anglers are prepping for the Sea Bass (Sea Bass, White) to move through once Spring hits.

A variety of Rockfish (Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Copper) were also hooked along with a Halibut (Halibut, Pacific). Anglers are using Shrimp, squid Strips cut into the length of the Squid and about a half inch wide and a variety of Big Hammer lures. Anchovy are a great alternative. We hope to see this continue into the weekend.

INSHORE – Rock Bass, Calicos and Sand Bass (Bass, Striped & Bass, Spotted Sand & Bass, Calico) are still biting despite the muddy water. Search the kelp beds to find them. Generally Sardine or Anchovy are your best bet to hook them. Swim baits are a great artificial alternative. Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) have been caught from the surf however the boat bite is slow. We hope to see the rain clear up and the bite improve for the coming week.

Santa Barbara Fishing Report

INSHORE – We caught up with Hook, Line and Sinker for a fishing report this week, and as you may have heard – and felt, the weather has been way too unfavorable for anglers to be hitting the water from shore or from boats. During the dry times we are seeing Perch (Surfperch, Barred), Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) and Rockfish (Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Blue) on structure. There are flash flood warnings, high wind and huge waves. We encourage all anglers to take this time to check out some of the great Pro Angler App features and prepare for their next trip when condition are more ideal. We hope to see things improve soon!

INSHORE – Anglers are fishing from the piers around the rocky structured pipeline for Calicos (Bass, Calico), small Rockfish (Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Blue) and Cabezon. The rain has made fishing a bit tough this week. East Beach and Goleta are great areas as well. Berkley Sandworms, Lucky Craft, 2 inch Big Hammers and 3 inch Big Hammers are the key to hooking fish this week. We hope to see this bite continue as we kick off the new year

Santa Barbara Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Good afternoon anglers, here is your 3/4 day report. We decided to switch it up and fished the deeper water today. We found decent fishing in the morning on the Rockfish (Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Blue) as well as Lingcod. We had a few good stops right off the bat but our fishing came to a slow mid morning. We did some looking around for awhile trying a variety of depths but didn’t find much until the later afternoon when we got into some good Chucklehead and Reds along with some good Lingcod fishing. The live bait and Squid Strips worked best but we also had some fish caught on the jigs. Our count for today with our 25 passengers is 30 Reds, 53 Coppers and 80 Assorted rockfish with 57 Lingcod. We are full for tomorrow’s 1/2 day trip but both boats return to straight 3/4 day trips after Christmas. Feel free to book your spots online or call the Sealanding at 805-963-3564. We expect this to forecast into the holiday week. The Pro Angler Team wishes you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. We look forward to bringing you more great reports in 2017!

OFFSHORE – Good afternoon folks we are still in route to the dock in perfectly flat calm seas with cloudy skies. Our group today put together by Ted Han only had 15 anglers and we had a great day. We started our day Lingcod fishing and it was pretty darn steady on the live Sardine with one angler doing well on the plastic. After we had what we needed on Lingcod we switched gears to look for Rockfish and although most areas were slow we managed to find a couple stones that wanted to bite with nice Reds, Coppers and a few Grouper. Everyone on board did a great job taking advantage of our opportunities today. Our 15 anglers ended the day with 38 Reds (Rockfish, Vermillion), 64 Coppers (Rockfish, Copper), 36 misc. Rockfish (Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Black), 2 Cabezon, 5 Whitefish and 45 Lingcod The Stardust is staying in tomorrow due to the weather coming in and is chartered Saturday and Sunday. OFFSHORE – Good afternoon folks we are heading in here with only 15 anglers on board today. Absolutely gorgeous weather today and pretty good fishing overall. We had no current to speak of most of the morning making some of our drifts short lived however everything we stopped on today kicked out some very nice quality fish. Our morning was focused on Lingcod and the afternoon we fished some shallower areas for copper Rockfish and misc other fishes as well. The live sardines were the ticket for the Lingcod and a few anglers caught some larger models on the jigs as well. Our 15 anglers ended the day with 116 Copper Rockfish, 28 misc. Rockfish, 3 Sheephead, 4 whitefish and 45 Lingcod. (Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Starry & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Olive & Lingcod)(Sheepshead, California) On the Coral Sea we’re headed in from our half day trip now and the crew is hard at work processing today’s catch and cooking burgers. We had steady fishing today, catching lots of rockfish and a few other mixed species. Our 10 anglers had a blast with fairly fast fishing in some spots. We caught a decent amount of reds and chuckles and brown rockfish along with lots of olives as well. We fished a wide area of spots but found bitting fish in nearly every zone. For our 10 passengers we ended up with limits of Rockfish, 3 Sheepshead, 2 Ocean Whitefish and 1 Lingcod. The Stardust is heading back out 3/4 Day fishing Friday with a light load again, you can book reservations online or just show up!! We are 3/4 day fishing Saturday and Sunday with lots of room. We started off up at Santa Rosa island in the shallows with okay Rockfish (Rockfish, Vermilion, Rockfish, Brown, Rockfish, Copper) fishing along with some Lingcod. INSHORE – This week anglers are hitting Perch (Surfperch, Barred) and Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) in the rocky structure. Lucky Crafts are best to hook them along with 2-3 inch big Hammer Swimbaits. During the evening the Anchovy color is working well. In the sun, Christmas tree and sparkly colors are best in the clear water. Calicos (Bass, Calico), Rockfish (Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Starry & Rockfish, Brown) and Cabezon have also been caught. Big Hammer swimbaits are working well for them as well.

OFFSHORE – Rockfish and Lingcod are biting well with White Sea Bass (Sea Bass, White) and Yellowtail. Yellowtail are in roughly 80 ft. Squid or Swimbaits are best. Sea Bass are preferring Mackerel. Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) are doing well. Numbers are good. Thresher Sharks (Shark, Thresher) have shown up as well with a few Seven Gills. They have been caught in shallower water.

BAIT REPORT – There are tons of Mackerel around this week. You can also find Squid.

INSHORE – 3/4 Day Charter – Excellent day of fishing for us today up the coast. We were chartered today with a group that fished with us a handful of times a year put together by Howard Coolidge. As always this group did a great job and took full advantage of the biting fish getting it done in short order and absolutely beautiful weather. We fished 245-270 feet of water and caught mostly Reds (Rockfish, Vermillion) with a couple stones holding big grade Coppers(Rockfish, Copper) and mixed other Rockfish as well. For the day our 29 anglers bagged up 204 Reds, 57 Coppers, 29 misc. Rockfish (Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Black) and 6 Lingcod.

INSHORE – There are some Perch (Surfperch, Barred, Corbina) to be caught however otherwise there isn’t a whole lot going on. Search the jetty and surf to find them. Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) have moved out. From the jetty we are seeing Calicos (Bass, Calico) and Cabezon turning up on frozen Squid or 4 inch Big Hammers. Quarter to half ounce leadheads will work. Incoming tide is best. Be careful around the jetties with the big swells!

OFFSHORE – Rockfishing (Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Copper, & Lingcod & Bocaccio) has been great. Sheepshead (Sheepshead, California) are hot as well. Yellowtail have slowed down. Bait is best for the most part. Squid or Sardines are great for the Rockfish.

A lot of Mackerel have showed up making fishing Squid strips almost impossible for most of the day. Those coming out in the near future please make sure you have plenty of monofilament top shot (30 yards) on top of your spectra as we saw many bites missed today. We started out in the deeper water 270-290 feet and throughout the day worked our way all the way into 160 ft. Everything was about the same getting 5- 10 fish off each area with a few that didn’t bite at all. Good quality throughout the day just never got one to really rattle our gear. INSHORE – Good afternoon everybody just heading back across the channel after a great day of fishing. We started off fishing Lingcod in the shallows with a smattering of Rockfish (Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Vermillion). The Lingcod were ferocious. After that we fished around for Rockfish then retreated to deeper water where we found a good area and proceeded to download till we ran out of time. Great weather and really good fishing. 23 Anglers, 69 Lingcod, 166 Rockfish We have the Stardust going out Friday on the Merit McCrea 3/4 day special. The Coral sea will be 1/2 day fishing Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM . The half-day fishing has also been exceptional. Please call the SEALanding 805-963-3564 or book on our website.

OFFSHORE – Good afternoon anglers we are currently making our way back towards the dock and a fun and productive day of fishing at Santa Rosa Island. Our morning started off a little on the scratchy side due to lots of bait on every spot we checked however we were able to put together a decent morning but decided to make a move around midday and stumbled across a couple stones holding both hungry Rockfish and Lingcod making for an excellent ending to the day. Very nice group aboard today as always with Loc Tran and his light load group of 22 anglers. Our 22 anglers today fished hard and ended with 156 Reds, 28 Coppers, 36 misc. Rockfish and 66 Lingcod. (Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Vermillion & Lingcod).

INSHORE – Good afternoon anglers we are just bending it for home here after a nice relaxing day of fishing up the coast with a light load of 14 anglers today. We opted to stay in the deeper water today anywhere from 290-310 feet and experienced steady fishing on good grade Reds (Rockfish, Vermillion) for our first couple hours of fishing. Once we lost our condition however fishing slowed down however we still managed to scratch at good quality until we had our limits. Nice light load group who did a great job in the deep water. For the day our 14 anglers sacked up 116 Reds, 24 misc. Rockfish (Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Vermillion) and 4 Lingcod.

INSHORE – Good afternoon folks we are making our way back to the dock after a nice day of beautiful weather up the beach today with our very light group of 14 anglers. We started our day fishing the deeps again and had very slow fishing for most of the morning so we made a move up the line about 4 miles where we were able to keep a steady pick going on Reds a few Coppers and a few other tasty varieties of Rockfish. Although a few people succumbed to seasickness they still participated and for that I am very thankful for. In the end our 14 anglers put it together catching 96 Reds and 44 misc. Rockfish (Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Brown).

OFFSHORE – Good afternoon folks we are making our way back across the channel after a busy day at Santa Rosa Island today with a full load of 40 anglers. Throughout the day today it was a challenge to keep out of tangles with strong current. We worked our way to an area we haven’t fished in a while and managed to scratch out a pretty nice day. A big thanks to our group today for staying patient and working with the crew to get all tangles out and get back down. For those that are coming fishing with us in the future please note you will need 12 oz. Sinkers and at least 30 yards of monofilament top shot on your spectra. Many bites were missed today due to very short top shots. For there efforts our 40 anglers ended the day with 74 Reds (Rockfish, Vermillion), 107 Coppers (Rockfish, Copper), 81 misc Rockfish (Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Black), 1 Whitefish and 31 Lingcod. OFFSHORE – Recently, Challenging conditions today folks! Strong current and a steep swell made for very challenging holding conditions for us today as result we did not end up with quite the numbers I had hoped for. Very good quality however helped keep the gang at the rail throughout the day. A big thanks to everyone on board today for sticking at the rail and fishing hard despite the tangles choppy conditions. One thing that was noticeable today was that the artificials were not producing nearly as well as bait. Those that switched to bait did much better. With a few anglers today succumbing to seasickness our 24 active participants put together 38 Reds (Rockfish, Vermillion), 54 Coppers (Rockfish, Copper), 29 misc. Rockfish (Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Olive), 1 Cabezon and 42 Lingcod.

INSHORE – Hello everyone and happy hump day to ya! The conditions at SRI this morning were less than optimum and so it forced us to change our game plan and employ a different strategy than what I have used the past few trips. We ended up having awesome day of fishing and hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves despite the overall scarcity of Rockfish (Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Brown) in our sacks today. Our 26 anglers today captured 66 copper Rockfish, 38 misc. rockfishes, 2 Cabezon, and 78 Lingcod. Much thanks to our group today for staying at the rail and fishing hard until the very end.

INSHORE – On the Stardust we started off our day up the coast because the islands were too rough and windy. We drove up here and just annihilated the Reds (Rockfish, Vermillion) and the Rockfish (Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Blue), we got a few handfuls of giant Chucks as well. Best bait today hands-down was a Squid strip on each of your hooks and a 12 ounce sinker we caught all of our fish on Bait today. We had great weather at the coast & really good fishing. On the Coral Sea we had lots of Olive Rockfish today with a few nice Reds & Browns thrown in as well. Lots of visitors today who were not keeping any fish so we caught what we needed and called it a day.

Throughout the day we had a few periods of activity that really made our day as the majority of areas we fished kicked out anywhere from 10-15 fish. It took a little bit to get in a rhythm this morning however our group did a great job capitalizing on those stops today that wanted to bite. For our efforts today our 38 anglers tallied up 91 Reds (Rockfish, Vermillion), 65 Coppers (Rockfish, Copper), 73 misc Rockfish (Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Black) and 53 Lingcod.

OFFSHORE – Good afternoon folks we are making our way back towards the harbor with our 27 anglers enjoying the smooth ride in down swell after a blustery day at Santa Rosa Island. Throughout the day we had steady fishing on both nice quality Reds (Rockfish, Red) and Coppers (Rockfish, Copper) as well as a few stones that kicked out a little better Lingcod activity than we have seen lately. The morning was was definitely slower than the afternoon for us today however our group stayed persistent and stuck with it ending the day with a nice catch for everyone on board. The double dropper loop set up with a 12 oz. Sinker with live Anchovy was the most productive set up today with a few caught on Squid strips as well. Our 27 anglers put together a combined catch of 51 Reds, 114 Coppers, 19 misc. Rockfish and 41 Lingcod.

OFFSHORE – Today started off with decent picking on good quality Reds & Coppers (Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Copper) but things got progressively slower as the day went on. OFFSHORE – Good afternoon folks we are making out way back across the channel is socked in fog after a fun and productive day of fishing on both nice quality Reds (Rockfish, Red) and Coppers (Rockfish, Copper) as well as steady Lingcod fishing throughout the day. It took us about an hour this morning to get located on a few ridges holding hungry Lingcod and for an hour and half we were able to steadily pick a good grade of Lingcod. Our last hour or so we moved to deeper water to catch Rockfish (Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Greenspotted) and had a few areas react well to our gear. OFFSHORE – Good afternoon folks, we had a very fast-paced, productive day of Rockfish (Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Starry & Bocaccio & Rockfish, Copper) fishing at Santa Rosa island today! After a slow start on our first several areas we stumbled upon some Reds (Rockfish, Vermillion) that really wanted to chew and it was pretty darn good fishing for everyone aboard today. Our 24 anglers caught a total of 174 Reds, 51 Copper rockfish, 15 misc. Rockfish, and 11 Lingcod. We are heading in early today with full sacks and happy anglers. We had an amazing group today with many of our weekly regulars aboard and that made for very good, positive energy so it’s no surprise to me that the trip went the way it did.

OFFSHORE – Good afternoon anglers, we are making our way back across the channel after a fun filled day of productive fishing at Santa Rosa Island today. Today we fished anywhere from 180 -270 feet of water. Our morning was scratchy on nice Coppers (Rockfish, Copper) with a few Reds (Rockfish, Red) and Lingcod in the mix however around mid day we saw a noticeable pulse in activity and had a couple drifts that yielded almost straight Reds anywhere from 2-3.25lb. Our our second to last drift we had a surprise when long time regular Manny Lemos caught a 19 lb King Salmon (Salmon, Chinook). Beautiful weather and great fishing as our 21 anglers ended the day with 76 Reds, 121 Coppers, 13 assorted rockfish, 26 Lingcod, 1 Whitefish and 1 King Salmon.

OFFSHORE – Hello folks, we are still mid way through the channel on our way home from a long but productive day of island fishing. My decision to pull our gear and run from a few areas today that had nice Reds (Rockfish, Vermillion) mixed with lesser quality Rockfish (Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Starry & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Yellowtail & Bocaccio) ended up making for a long day! We ended the day with our passenger’s sacks filled with a very nice grade of Reds, Coppers, and Lingcod so it worked out just fine! Our 19 anglers caught 102 Reds, 57 Copper rockfish (‘chuckleheads’), 31 misc. Rockfish, and 25 Lingcod. Flat calm seas with just a slight breeze made for comfortable fishing today.

Due to the gusty winds across the pond we opted to fish up the coast in 230-330 ft of water. Approximately 10 percent of our Reds were that nicer 3-4 lb. grade of fish with the remainder consisting of our normal 1.5-2.5 lb. ‘steamer’ Reds. OFFSHORE – Hello anglers we are making our way back from the Island today with a nice overall day of fishing. With our 32 passengers sticking at the rail all day despite breezy and bumpy conditions we we fished both the deeper water anywhere from 260-280 and even worked our way into the shallows 100-130 feet as well. We had to work for it today and at times had steady fishing on medium size Coppers some nice Reds and decent Lingcod fishing as well. With the fishing being a little challenging today the guys using monofilament with a couple longer dropper loops seemed to produce much better than those choosing to fish straight braid with a short top shot. Either Anchovy or a couple nice Squid strips did the trick today. A big thanks to our group today for staying positive as our 32 anglers are taking home 64 Reds (Rockfish, Vermillion), 187 Coppers (Rockfish, Copper), 45 assorted rockfish (Bocaccio & Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Brown) & Rockfish, Gopher), 1 Cabezon and 35 Lingcod. Both boats are a go tomorrow with light loads. The weather looks nice for both the local area as well as up the coast in the deeper water. OFFSHORE – Good afternoon folks, we are on our way in from a fun 3/4 day island trip and the weather was absolutely beautiful today! We fished the deeps for just over an hour this morning and threw on 4 to 5 nice reds/coppers (Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Copper) per angler before we ran inside and fished the shallower spots in anywhere from 140-180′. In the shallower water our anglers enjoyed fishing dropper look rigs, 3-4 oz. plastics, and 3-5 oz jigs for a mixed bag of medium coppers and a few nice lingcod. Our total today for our 17 anglers was 33 reds, 97 coppers, 38 misc. rockfish, 11 lingcod, 2 ocean whitefish, 1 sheepshead, 1 sculpin, and 2 cabezon. INSHORE – The Perch are biting inshore on all the beaches on a variety of baits. The new big hammer 2 inch Swim bait are working for the Perch (Surfperch, Barred). They are also catching Calicos (Bass, Calico), baby Sanddabs (Sanddab, Pacific) and baby Halibut (Halibut, Pacific). We had one angler catch one Halibut so tiny that one of the eyes hadn’t even moved from it’s belly yet! Calicos are on fire this week. There are also quite a bit of Sheepshead from 60ft and in. Shrimp, Squid and plastics are all hitting them this week. Check out Hook, Line & Sinker’s Facebook page for details on their Golden Egg hunt where you can win some great prizes!!

OFFSHORE – We are beginning to see some Yellowtail heat up this week. They are not consistent yet but they are scattered around the 4 mile mark. Rockfish (Lingcod & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Starry) are now open and are doing well just about everywhere. The shallow water (60 ft and less) is producing bigger sizes but they are still swimming offshore.

INSHORE – We had an absolute blast today fishing with a 7 person charter from Sanford Winery! We opted to fish up the coast due to the windy offshore forecast and it paid off nicely with a catch of Rockfish (Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Starry) consisting of mostly 2-3 lb. The group of anglers fished hard despite the bumpy and somewhat blustery conditions today & caught a total of 58 Reds and 12 misc. Rockfish (Rockfish, Copper). Much thanks to Steve for putting together this trip. We hope your group enjoyed the trip as much as we enjoyed spending the day with you guys!

OFFSHORE – Our 23 anglers caught 175 Reds (Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Starry), 45 Rockfish, Copper, 10 misc Rockfish, and 1 Lingcod. Calicos, Rockfish and Lings have also been holding up in the nearshore kelp beds as well. This has been a main focus for anglers this week. INSHORE – Anglers can begin to watch for Halibut, Pacific on the sandy side of the pier now that the water is warming up even more. The Lucky Crab 110 Flash Minnows in anchovy, aurora calico or anchovy venus are working well. This setup on a Carolina rig bounced off the bottom has produced some great fish from the pier. The bite is hot using this and has been consistent so far.

OFFSHORE – There are quite a few Sea Bass, White and Yellowtail in the area that has not left this year. The water did not get cold enough for fish to leave so they are nice and big at this point. The Lings (Lingcod) will be turning on soon so anglers will pull out the big plastics for those. 9-10 inch swim baits and sea slugs rigged with stingers do an excellent job at catching them.

BAIT REPORT – Anglers are using a Sabiki rigs to catch live bait this week.

INSHORE – Bass, Kelp have been caught throughout the inshore this week. The bite is not hot however it is increasing and anglers will take this as a sign of a Spring fishing pattern in the works. There are also some Bonito, Pacific in this area along with a solid number of Halfmoon and quite a few Barracuda, California. The bite is consistent throughout the inshore this week on a full day trip.

OFFSHORE – This area has been hot as of late as we are seeing some Yellowtail turn up in the offshore. This has been the main target of anyone fishing the deeper water this week and we expect this to continue into the weekend.

INSHORE – Surfperch, Barred are hitting off the beach. Bass, Calico have been going off the wall this week. Anglers are having a hard time keeping their lines in the water. They can be found on inshore structure as well as throughout the nearshore. Sand Bass (Bass, Spotted Sand) have been doing great as well in some of the same areas and along the beach. There have also been a few Halibut, Pacific off the beach and on the structured areas too. The surf is producing Rockfish, Olive and Rockfish, Brown. The pier is holding a variety of small Rockfish, Mackerel (Mackerel, Pacific), Bass (Bass, Calico), Sharks (Shark, Leopard, Guitarfish, Shovelnose) and a ton of Ray, Bats. The Bat Rays aren’t picky and can be caught on Squid and Anchovies. New logos and Hook Line & Sinker branded apparel is now in! Stop in and check it out!

OFFSHORE – There have surprisingly been some Triggerfish, Gray caught from the boats recently. This is not normal for the area however El Nino has pushed them inside. They were caught on plastics incidentally while anglers were targeting Bass, Calico.

Santa Barbara Fishing Report

INSHORE – This week we are beginning to see the slow start of a Spring fishing pattern. Bass, Calico have been extremely spotty however there have been a few reports of some small sizes turning up. Remembering especially as they are scattered that live bait will be the most productive. Among them in the kelp beds and rocky areas are some Opaleye. Generally they are not a target for recreational anglers but are an important fish for commercial boaters. They are commonly found in shallow waters feeding on algae and smaller bait such as worms. There have also been reports of Halfmoon, another form of Sea Chub which can usually be found in the same areas. If you can get on a good bite it may measure up to 20 inches. They are generally not regarded as great game fish however they are considered good eating by most. The Yellowtail bite has slowed down significantly. We are hardly getting any reports from this area. We are excited to see the fish changing into their Spring patterns, slowly but surely.

Various Rockfish (Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Greenspotted, & Rockfish, Starry & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Black) have also been caught in great numbers as well. They are coming off the bottom and usually are found swimming above structure.

Santa Barbara Fishing Report

INSHORE – Now that Rockfish are closed a lot of anglers have decided to stay inside and plan for next year. There aren’t a lot of people fishing from shore either however those who are can target Bass, Calico and Halibut, Pacific at this time. Halibut will be pretty deep for this time of year and they generally will bite live bait. The Calico are hitting swim baits or live anchovies. They can be found along the coast and around the islands 4-5 miles from shore. Look for kelp and structure to find the best sizes. The Crab situation has not improved at this point however we will keep you updated when things improve.

Santa Barbara Fishing Report

INSHORE – Unfortunately we have seen a rise in the acidity levels of the Dungeness Crab in the area this week. This is generally the main focus of most anglers during this time of the year. There is not a whole lot of action otherwise however there are some Surfperch, Barred that can be hooked on bloodworms, lugworms or berkley power grubs throughout the beach areas. They generally stick to deeper holes in sandy bottoms where there is a lack of tide. We hope to see the Crabbing season open soon however with the recent results this is not promising.

INSHORE – Although Rockfish are closed to boats and maneuvering vessels, there’s some opportunities for shore anglers. The piers and surf are still allowing Rockfishing from land and anglers are reeling in quite a few (Rockfish, Brown, Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Black). There’s Bass, Calico and Bass, Barred Sand still around and most people that are looking for them from the same locations. 3-4 inch big hammer plastics in Christmas Tree or Red Rum or anything that has red to match the crabs that are everywhere. Some anglers are hooking Halibut, Pacific and Surfperch, Barred using lucky crabs. Look forward to February and Hook, Line & Sinker’s Winter specials!!

Santa Barbara Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – There are still plenty of Rockfish (Rockfish, Starry & Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish Bocaccio & Rockfish, Copper) in great numbers this week. There are also solid catches of Lingcod coming in over 100 per trip. Most of the best sizes are being caught out by the islands where it has been hard to keep the hook in the water. This has been the main focus for anglers so far this week.

Santa Barbara Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Anglers were easily catching limits of Red Rockfish (Rockfish, Starry & Rockfish, Vermillion) as well as other assorted species of Rockfish (Rockfish, Bocaccio & Rockfish Copper). They are mostly the focus this week as there is not a whole lot of other fishing at this point. The Lingcod bite has drastically dropped off and they have become increasingly spotty this week. Algers are having a hard time fishing up the coast due to windy conditions at the Islands.

Santa Barbara Fishing Report

INSHORE – Although it is still pretty windy we have had some anglers make it out this week. Reports of Rockfish, Vermillion and Rockfish, Starry are coming from the coast. The Lingcod bite has cooled down this week and they have been a lot more difficult to catch so far. We hope weather conditions will lie down for the weekend so anyone get get on the water. There have been no sign of Bass, Calico, Mackerel or Mackerel, Pacific showing up yet this week but we won’t be surprised if they start biting later in the week.

Santa Barbara Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Wind has shut just about everything down. It has been too strong for any anglers to get out this week. It is just slightly beginning to clear up however the swells and conditions will likely not have the water ready for the weekend even if the weather is nice. The beaches and piers are pretty torn up so far this week. There has been some Rockfish (Rockfish, Vermillion & Lingcod) showing up in the area along with Bass, Calico, Mackerel, Pacific and Surfperch, Barred that are expected to swim after the conditions become more favorable. It’s not easy to tell when that will be. Anglers who head out over the weekend can always consult our Tips feature which provides additional information and suggestions to help improve the catch.

Santa Barbara Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Halibut, Pacific are still swimming the nearshore and the bite is pretty good. Anchovies or swimbaits in various colors continue to do well this week. Reports have also seen Sea Bass, White coming in now so lots of anglers are targeting them. Finally there are lots and lots of small Calico Bass swimming this week and the quantities are very promising for the coming years. They have been turning up fairly small however there are some keepers hiding along the shorelines.

OFFSHORE – The winds have made it difficult to get out on the open water this past weekend and conditions are expected to be the same this weekend. Anglers continue to see a solid Yellow bite this week. There have also been reports of Rockfish (Rockfish, Vermillion & Lingcod). The action is spotty due to conditions however there is a bite for the angler determined to make it out on the water this holiday.

Santa Barbara Fishing Report

INSHORE – Action is beginning to settle down as the Winter fishery sets in. Bonito, Pacific and small Yellowtail are being caught as well as some Bass, Calico. The bigger Yellows are going deeper but they can still be found in good numbers. Anglers are using Anchovies or Sardines in 200-300 ft of water, generally hiding around structures. The beach will fire up once the weather drops a little more.

OFFSHORE – Unfavorable weather has made offshore fishing quite difficult. Anglers have not made it out at this point so there are no reports at this time. If fishermen decide to head out when the conditions calm down they can always check out our Tips feature which provides additional information and suggestions to help improve their catch. Santa Barbara Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Along the back side of the island there has been lots of reports of Tuna, Yellowfin, Billfish – Marlin, Blue and Dorado (Dolphin). In a little close anglers are finding Yellowtail at the 4-5 miles mark. Tuna have been hitting Cousins which is a trolling lure. They are also loving cedar plugs as well. Tuna have been just about everywhere in varieties of water so looking for birds and kelp patties will be the easiest method of locating these fish. Normally Dorado is pretty rare for this area however El Nino has brought them in closer. Anglers are jigging with live mackerel for Yellowtail or fly lining. They can be found anywhere from 4 miles through to the oil rigs where Yoyoing is working well for deep fish.

INSHORE – Up and down the coast there has been a lot of Yellowtail reported in addition to Calico Bass. Both are hitting swim baits in green and brown or blue and green since that is what is in the water right now. Sliding sinkers with a live anchovy hooked are also working well. Rockfish (Rockfish, Yelloweye & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Brown) have been reported on structures and will remain open until December 31st. Big swimbaits, double dropper loops with live bait such as anchovies and sardines are a great bait for the Rockfish and Lingcod alike.

BAIT REPORT – There are no bait reported to be running at this time however for additional information on Wahoo feel free to check out our Tips feature that provides recommendations on how to improve your catch.

Santa Barbara Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Off the Islands at Santa Barbara you will find a few species of fish to catch including Yellowfin, Wahoo and both Striped and Blue Marlin. Just North a 200lb Bluefin Tuna was even reported having been reeled in. Popper Marlin lures between 11-13 inches in mean Joe green have been the very best bait for any of these fish. Pink and White have worked well too. Trolling has produced great results and you should not be surprised if you reel in a Lingcod as well. Anglers have been using triple hook lures to catch these in water 50-100 ft. Everything else seems to be farther out in the 500-1000 ft. range.

INSHORE – If you decide to fish inshore you may get lonely as anglers have been out in the deeper water. There are some reports of Yellowtail hiding out under the oil platforms, and they’re hungry. If inshore fishing is your preference this weekend you can always refer to our Tips feature whereby selecting your fish of choice you can view suggestions, bait alternatives and ‘how to’s.

BAIT REPORT – Our sources are reporting that there’s not much bait in the area. Try the local bait shop on this report. A list of all bait shops in your area can be found on the “location” page of the Pro Angler App.
