Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – We are officially into our Spring patterns this week and the bite is firing up for the season. Anglers heading out to take advantage of the pier bite can expect to find steady Kings and a fantastic Cobia bite. Morning anglers are finding more and more Pompano as well. Reds, Sheepshead and Whiting have also been caught but are far more prominent inshore and from the surf. Inshore the Trout and Reds are the main target, especially on the flats. Look for the bait to find the fish. Towards the Intracoastal from Destin to Pensacola there has been great numbers of Spanish. The diving Seagulls are giving away their location as they feed. Structure such as bridges and deeper docks in the sound continue to hold and produce decent Sheepshead and Snapper. Live Shrimp has been the key to hooking them. We expect this to continue into the weekend.

OFFSHORE – Anglers fishing nearshore or offshore this week have found plenty of success so far. When the weather allows, boats heading towards the rigs are hooking plenty of Tuna. The sizes have been great and the bite is consistent. Towards the edge we are seeing decent Wahoo as well. When weather or timing keeps anglers restricted to the nearshore bite there has still been many species to target. The Cobia are better than they have been in years, both numbers and sizes. There are also some Kings mixed in however they are not as prominent. If you are heading towards the edges you will find better numbers. Typical of the time of year, the bottom bite has been steadily producing Grouper as well as Tilefish and Sea Bass. Searching structure such as wrecks and reefs has been most productive. Closer in, Mingos have been caught along the edges in roughly 300 feet of water. Scamp and Red Grouper are mixed in. The Red Grouper are more plentiful off East Beach. The Spanish have made their way in and are closer to the beach this week.

INSHORE – The Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) are hitting really well this week. Redfish (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are still biting. Sheepshead are hot inshore. Anglers are finally catching Cobia in the area. They are still off the beach and have not moved to the pier yet.

OFFSHORE – A few Grouper (Grouper, Gag) have been caught in roughly 120 feet. Anglers are producing good sizes. Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) are great catch and release fish. White Snapper and Beeliners (Snapper, Vermillion & Grunt, White) are consistent. Kings (Mackerel, King) are swimming as well. Search for them around the whistle buoy and catch them on the troll.

BAIT REPORT – Ballyhoo is in the marina and the bay.

Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – Fishing the Northwest will provide plenty of activity for anglers this week. Trout continue to turn up from Port St. Joe to Navarre. Fishing them early or late in the day using live bait has been best. Reds typically go hand in hand when fishing Trout. They seem to be just about everywhere this week from bays, piers, bridges, passes and beaches. You just need to follow the bait schools to find the fish and then cast artificials to hook them on an outgoing tide. Your Sheepshead will be around on structure while Pompano are making their way onto the beach. Spanish have also shown up on the beach. Hit them with Squid to bring them in.

OFFSHORE – When anglers can make it offshore they are still finding a decent bite. Triggerfish , Snapper, and Grouper are all providing great catch and release action. Vermillion, Porgy, Black Snapper as well as Black and Red Grouper can also be caught offshore but be sure to check the regulations to see where you are permitted to fish for them. Amberjack are now also catch and release as of this week so be sure to keep that in mind when hooking one. Heading towards the Towers and structure nearshore Cobia are following rays and turtles as they move East and West. Cast a jig with live Eels for the best bite. You may also hook onto some Flounder using the same method.

Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – This week we are beginning to see the Pompano begin to run during the day. Crooked Island beach in the Port St. Joe area has been a particularly good area to fish for them. There are good numbers of Whiting taking Fishbites in similar areas. Anglers are reporting decent Reds and Trout taking soft plastics like Zman lures or live baits such as Shrimp or Minnows. The Trout are increasing in size along with a good amount of slot Reds. Search the shallows to find them. Flounder and Spanish are swimming the bay. You will find them in deeper pockets of water. Spanish are swimming more or less in 6-8 feet towards the North side of the bay. Anglers have been trolling to catch them. Sheepshead are beginning to fire up on structure as usual. The Cobia should begin to arrive soon as well.

OFFSHORE – We continue to see improvement from the region this week. The fishing is firing up, especially the bottom bite throughout the day. There has been a wide variety of fish to take advantage of including Snapper, Grouper, Sea Bass, Triggerfish and even a few Sheepshead a bit closer to shore. Anglers are easily catching good bags of Sheepshead as they are stacked up on structure. Spanish are steady into this week while the Ajs are slowing down. Towards the surface the Bonito are being caught on the troll.

Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – Redfish and Trout are hungry so there has been no shortage of nice fish this week. The bay has been the key area to fish them in Port. St. Joe and they are swimming the inshore docks and piers in the evening through to Destin. As usual, the moving tide is most productive. Sheepshead are also stacked up on structure from Panama to Destin. Anglers trolling can expect to see Spanish Mackerel along the coast. Clarkspoons and jigs are the best setups to load up on these fish. Pompano and Whiting are running the beach, more prominently towards Port St. Joe. Moving towards bridges anglers can expect to see Flounder and Drum. Catch and release anglers can move their focus to the bay where there are plenty of Tarpon biting.

OFFSHORE – The bottom bite for Amberjack in this area has been taking off this week. Port St. Joe is holding great numbers if you can get out to 150 feet of water. A variety of live bait has been their preference so far. As you move towards Navarre the Amberjack become a bit more scattered while the Snapper and Triggerfish begin to heat up. Nearshore, there has been a good run of Cobia and Spanish Mackerel from Port St. Joe through to Destin.

Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – It has been difficult to hit the inshore waters and not see any Trout or Redfish. They are riddled throughout the intracoastal to canals to the bay. Varying in sizes we are finding both species all the way to Pensacola. Your best bet is to fish moving tides towards inlets. Deeper holes in roughly 6-8 ft of water has been the key. If you are hitting the surf this week not only will you find scattered Redfish but there has also been consistent Whiting and Pompano to fill your cooler with. Start your day off right with a first light bite, or finish with a few cast on the surf at last light for some good sized fish. The Flounder bite is beginning to improve along the seawall however they are far more prominent in the bay. It has been no surprise that Mud Minnows are the best bait to catch them. As we move towards Destin we find they are still holding up in deeper water. A few occasional catches this week include Sheepshead on rock piles and bridges, and Spanish on the beach towards Navarre. We are also starting to see bait such as Pilchards and cigar Minnows return to the surf.

OFFSHORE – The nicer weather in the past week has allowed anglers to finally make it offshore. The Amberjack bite is turning on along with a solid mix of Gray Triggerfish. The Triggers are sometimes difficult to avoid when targeting Ajs. Begin jigging in 90-150 ft feet. They are consistent from Port St. Joe through Pensacola. Anglers who are able to make it nearshore can target a steady catch of Snapper and Grouper species along wrecks and reefs. A handful of Cobia have shown up as well and we expect numbers to increase as the Spring patterns set in.

Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – Sheepshead have had a decent showing at the passes throughout the region. Surf anglers will enjoy the variety of fish from Panama City Beach over to Pensacola. Pompano and Whiting are the majority of what’s being caught. Other species being caught from the surf include: Redfish, Black Drum, and the occasional Blacktip Shark.
Moving inside the bays, there has been decent Trout bites on Z-man Paddle Tails, some Redfish are hitting these too. Water temperatures are warming up so the fish are in transition. This means you will find some fish in their typical cold water spots, but also in their warmer water spots.

OFFSHORE – Amberjack have been reported from the bottom this week. They are preferring bigger live baits. Grouper and Triggerfish are mixed in and provide great catch and release action. You’ll have to head a bit farther offshore to find the Ajs this week.
A bit closer in the Triggerfish are becoming more consistent. They are mixed with a solid Snapper variety in 140 ft or less. Moving shallower anglers have found the Flounder continue to bite on wrecks and reefs. When the weather permits anglers to head out to the oil rigs and farther the main target has been Blackfin Tuna and Swordfish.

Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – Things are fairly typical of the season despite not having typical February weather. Beaches throughout the Panhandle have been good for Pompano. Whiting have also been on the beaches. Some of the bays and sounds have had a good Trout bite along with Redfish and Drum. Canals have been particularly good for Trout and Reds. Deeper docks towards the West end of Florida have been producing Sheepshead and Mangrove Snapper, they haven’t been on fire quite yet.

OFFSHORE – Keeper Amberjack have been hit or miss from Port St. Joe over to the Alabama border. The best sizes this week have come from 20 miles off of Pensacola. Boats headed out from Panama City have found a good Vermilion Snapper bite. Quite a few fish have been up to 4 lbs and limits are common. Boats out of Pensacola able to travel well past 20 miles have been able to get on Yellowfin Tuna. Most of the Tuna have been caught trolling and live baiting.

INSHORE – White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) are swimming 3 Mile Bridge and biting well. Either Gulp Shrimp on a jighead or small cut bait on a slip sinker rig will work well to hook them. The Bayous are holding nice Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) taking artificials in 6-14 ft. In upper Escambia Bay, near the mouths of the river, the Redfish (Drum, Red) bite around the I10 Bridge and the trestle has been great along with a good Trout bite. Watch the cold fronts and the weather. When it’s not blowing too strong you can fish this area. Use live Shrimp or a Matrix Shad. Redfish are biting at night around 3 Mile Bridge as well. Pensacola Pass is holding Snapper (Snapper, Gray) that are on the rock jetties with Sheepshead. You can also find them around the bridges. It’s a bit slower at this time of year however there are still some fish to be caught.

Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – The night bite at 3 mile bridge is great for White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) and Redfish. Outgoing tide is your best bet. Pick your nights for the calmer water. Artificials will catch Reds (Drum, Red) schooling around the lights. The Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) in Escambia Bay are decent as well as around Garcon Point Bridge. Reds are taking artificials. High tide is producing better. You can slowly fish the outgoing tide throwing soft plastics, artificials and topwaters for Trout and Reds. Santa Rosa Sound is great for sight fishing Reds on the docks. They are up to 24 inches in 1-4 ft of water. This time of year things are a bit slower as the conditions are cold. Bottom fishing in the bay is producing catch and release Snapper (Snapper, Vermillion) and Grouper (Grouper, Red & Grouper, Gag). Sheepshead are on the bridges near the trestle around I10. Near Pensacola Pass on the jetties we are seeing Snapper (Snapper, Gray) on live Shrimp and cut bait.

Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – The upcoming cold front is expected to change the pattern a bit into next week however we are currently seeing a typical Winter trend setting in. To the North Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Reds (Drum, Red) are beginning to show up more in the river mouths and darker, deeper bayous, especially the canals in gulf breeze. Bull Reds are in Pensacola Bay. Around 3 mile bridge while fishing the bottom we are seeing them with White Trout (Seatrout, Sand). Bob Sikes Bridge is producing Specks, White Trout, Sheepshead, Bull Reds and the occasional Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray). Sheepshead are around Navarre Bridge along with a few slot Reds and Trout. The cold spell will likely push the reds from the flats to the deeper water. On the beach we are seeing Pompano (Pompano, Florida), Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Redfish. Whiting are the most prolific. Late season Kings (Mackerel, King) moved in with the warmer weather however they are already moving out again. You may catch a few here and there. Sheepshead are out there. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are on the pylons. Bluefish and Drum (Drum, Black) have been caught as well. OFFSHORE – Bonito (Bonito, Little Tunny), Blackfin Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin) and the rare King (Mackerel, King) have been caught nearshore. The current weather may change this a bit. On the bottom the Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are on fire. Angler’s are limiting out on the nearshore reefs and wrecks. Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) are biting. Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) are still open in state waters. Gags, Red and Scamp Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red & Grouper, Scamp) are swimming the bottom. Trolling is limited to Wahoo & Mahi (Dolphin) way offshore. There are some Tuna mixed in. They are as far out as 25-30 miles offshore. 80-90 miles out on the rigs off Alabama is your best bet for warmer water temperatures. Pro Angler Team

Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – Fall Red Fishing (Drum, Red) has not yet started as of November 8th, but that’s ok, that means that it will be going on well into December and even January. Since it’s been an unusually warm start for November, the big Reds have not made their way into the bay like they usually do the first week of November. But don’t fret, there are still plenty of things to fish for. Slot Reds, Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), and especially Flounder (Flounder, Southern). Flounder fishing in November is typically very good on the flats if you know where to look for them. I am happy to say that the bull Reds are all over 3-Mile Bridge and you can usually catch a bunch at night. So long as you have a good tidal flow, you should have a great fishing trip no matter what species you are targeting. The wind may be kicking a bit, but if you watch your days, you can definitely get out to enjoy the milder temps and the less crowded waterways. My prediction for when the big reds will show up will be November 11-13th, and once they show up, the rods will bend and the drags will be singing. Stay tuned for a more detailed report around November 20th. Tight Lines, Capt. John Captain John Mega-Bite-Inshore Charters 850-341-9816 www.megabiteinshore.com

INSHORE – The Bull Reds (Drum, Red) are beginning to trickle into the Pensacola Bay. Bull Reds are right outside the pass, in the pass as well. 3 Mile Bridge at night from 8pm to 3 am on the moving tide is best. If the water isn’t moving you won’t be catching. Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) are in the bay while Kings (Mackerel, King) are moving out and heading offshore. Slot Redfish are on the flats, docks and deeper holes. Search 3-5 ft for Reds and 3-7 ft for Trout. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) haven’t made their winter transition to the upper bay but are beginning to. We will see this happen at the end of November. In Escambia Bay there are some great fish off highway 90 and the point for Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) and slot Reds. Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – Fall is right around the corner and I’m excited for what will hopefully be some cooler fishing conditions. Let’s talk about what happens in October, which when it comes to fishing, is a lot. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite really fires off in the Santa Rosa Sound, Escambia Bay and Big Lagoon right around the end of September and the start of October. The Redfish (Drum, Red) bite also fires off in the same areas and on the three bridges in the area, which are 3- Mile, Bob Sikes, and Garcon Bridge. Kings (Mackerel, King) will also start to show up in Pensacola Bay and those are a lot of fun for sure for many anglers. INSHORE – The storm did not affect this area too much. There are a lot of Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish), Black Snapper (Snapper, Gray), Flounder (Flounder, Southern), Redfish (Drum, Red) and Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) biting inshore this week. Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) have been in the ICW in 3-5 of water this week. May is a great month for big Trout on artificials. Free lining Finger Mullet or a small Croaker will get you the biggest sizes. It will take a bit to get the bite so be patient. Topwater plugs, MirrOdines in 17MR or XL are go to artificials. There has been a lot of rain so the bay has been muddy. The fish are scattered in pockets looking for the saltier places. Anglers have to look for clean water and throw MirrOlures and Bass Assassins 5 inch jerk shad. Make sure you have 20-30 lb leader depending on whether or not you are fishing structure. Keep in mind, if you catch a big female Trout be sure to handle as little as possible and release it so there will be plenty for seasons to come. There are also a few Flounder (Flounder, Southern) hanging around. They are hit and miss this time of year so the scattered bite is typical of the season. We expect this to carry into the weekend. Tight Lines 850-433-2962 https://www.facebook.com/Tight-Lines-Bait-and-Tackle-539807542703359/

Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – Anglers are catching Sheepshead in the bays and around the bridges. They are spotty in the pass. There are a few Reds (Drum, Red) mixed in as well. Smaller live Shrimp and Fiddler Crabs are the best bet to bring them in. A number two or four hook size will work well. The early morning bite has been the most productive. Pompano, Florida and Reds are scattered around the beach but are beginning to move out. OFFSHORE – Triggerfish, Gray and Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) have been doing well in the offshore. Cut bait is working well for Triggers. Squid has been the best. Jigging for the Ajs has been the most productive. BAIT REPORT – Pinfish are still hanging around at this point but are becoming more difficult to find. Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – The rivers have been full of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) to the mouth of the bay. The bridges and deep holes are holding the best sizes. Reds (Drum, Red) are also turning up on live Shrimp. Towards the mid bay bridge there are tons of Sheepshead moving towards the pass. The sizes have been decent so far and they are loving Fiddler Crabs or smaller Shrimp. Sand Fleas are also a great alternative. The Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) bite has dropped off this week. There are still a few however they are difficult to find. The canals are holding more great Trout this week, especially around the dock lights in the evening. The surf is absolutely on fire with Pompano (Pompano, Florida), Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Drum, Black that are hitting fish bites. This has been the hot bait this week and will hook just about anything in the surf. OFFSHORE – Triggerfish (Triggerfish, Gray) have been doing extremely well in this area. They will hit anything and are just about everywhere. If you are not catching Triggers you must not be fishing. The Wahoo are moving into roughly 25 miles offshore. They are taking purple lures this week. This has been the hot color. Anglers are high speed trolling with Purple black bars. There are also some Tuna, Blackfin swimming the same areas. They are being caught on live bait on the troll as well. Anglers are also throwing topwater lures such as pencil poppers to hook them. The problem in this area is not a lack of fish but instead a lack of consistently nice weather which has made offshore fishing difficult for most anglers lately. Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – It’s been fairly slow in this area lately. There are some Sheepshead around the bridges and pylons, or Bob’s Heights about 3 miles out, and anywhere there is any structure and barnacles. Sheepshead will be ready to spawn there. There are some Bull Reds (Drum, Red) along the beaches and passes. They will be schooled up with the cooler temperature. OFFSHORE – Triggerfish, Gray are open and biting really well. Anglers are hitting their limits when the weather allows. Cut bait such as Squid are doing well or Cigar Minnows alternatively. They are only about 7 miles out on the wrecks. Ajs (Jack, Amberjack, Greater) are swimming in the same area however the better sizes are farther out. Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – In the upper bays there are lots of Reds (Drum, Red) hiding in the grass as well as in the lower river. They are slowing down and the sizes are not as great as last month. Generally live bait such as Shrimp will work well to hook them. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are moving back into the creeks and rivers this week. The hybrid Striper bite in the rivers has been hot and should continue on live Shrimp or small jerk baits and matrix shads. The most popular colors for artificials are white. In the bay around the point and bridges there are lots of Sheepshead. Most angler will be targeting them for upcoming tournaments. From the surf we expect to see Pompano, Florida slow down with the recent cold front, however the Bluefish and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern & Kingfish, Northern) are increasing in size and bite while moving in. Anglers are still catching Drum, Black and a few slot Reds. Nearshore the Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) are doing well from the bottom in roughly 50 ft of water. Bonito, Little Tunny have moved in around the pier and are on fire with the fronts. They are moving in with the bait closer to the beach. OFFSHORE – Now that the weather has broken a bit anglers are now getting out to target the great bite of Triggerfish, Gray swimming this week. They are now open so anglers are hoping to stock up on them. The Tuna, Blackfin are doing well around the edge. They’re huge and mixed in with some Wahoo near the drop off. As a secondary target anglers are going for Snapper, Gray as well as they are easy to stock up on. Tight Lines 850-433-2962

Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Canals and Bayous are now host to a lot of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) this week and they are loving live Shrimp or similar artificials such as Vudu Shrimp. The sizes are getting better and the numbers are increasing now that the temperature has dropped slightly. White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) have been swimming the Pensacola Bay Bridge along with some Sheepshead that have been holding up around all bridges and structures. Sheephead are preferring Fiddler Crabs so far this week. There are also a few Reds (Drum, Red) in the bay that are going after Shrimp, similar to the Trout. OFFSHORE – The gulf has had a decent bite on Triggerfish (Triggerfish, Ocean) and Snapper, Vermillion so far this week. There have also been reports of both Tuna, Yellowfin and Tuna, Blackfin in the deep water around the rigs and drill ships. They are coming up in great sizes however the bite is on and off. Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – The bite inshore has remained steady this week. The Stripers (Bass, Striped) and Reds (Drum, Red) are continuing to do well around the river. Sheepshead are picking up as it is that time of year, however the air is not as cool as it normally is. The bridges are holding the best sizes so far and Fiddler Crabs seem to be their preference of bait. Nothing has turned up in the pass so far however there are Snapper, Red and Sheepshead in the bay on a spotty bite. The Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) have disappeared so far this week but we won’t be surprised to see some turn up by the weekend. OFFSHORE – Anglers are excited for the opening of Triggerfish and Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) this week however there have been no reports from the offshore this week otherwise. BAIT REPORT – Bull Minnows and Finger Mullet are both running so far this week. No time to catch bait? Tight Lines has all the live bait you will need for every fishing trip! INSHORE – Reds (Drum, Red) have been doing extremely well despite the Red Tide. There have also been Pompano, Florida in the surf. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have moved into the rivers and creeks at this point. Everything swimming is loving live Shrimp this week.Stretch 25 on the troll or Shrimp is killing it this week for all fish. Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – Anglers in this area continue to see quite a bit of action this week. Sheepshead are moving towards the intracoastal waterway now. They are hitting live Fiddler Crabs which is no surprise. They have been holding in the upper bay as well towards the head where the river connects and from Francis Blackwater Bay and towards Escambia Bay the Sheeps are all around the bridges. The hot Bull Red (Drum, Red) bite has moved to the pass and the top water action has slowed down. Legal slots are still turning up around piers and bridges on live Shrimp or Pinfish. There are also some slots making their way to the creeks and lower river along with some Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) and Bass (Bass, Striped) both natural and hybrid in Blackwater Bay. Bass can also be caught around the docks and deep holes, anywhere there is warm water. Live Shrimp have been killing it for all three species. As an artificial alternative, Matrix and vortex Shads are producing very well. From the nearshore there are Bonito, Little Tunny on the gulf pier and Kings (Mackerel, King) that have slowed down this week. Kepp in mind there is a bit of red tide still in the area. BAIT REPORT – Pinfish are running this week and working well for inshore fish. Head over to Tight Lines on Monday for their huge Christmas Sale! Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – The bite in this area has seemed to slow down this week. There are still good numbers of Bull Reds (Drum, Red) in the the bay and hanging around the outside. They are getting fat as the weather cools down. Anglers throwing bucktail jigs or laser tails will find quite a bit of productivity with them. There have also been reports of a continued Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) bite throughout the pass as well as on the nearshore wrecks. As the weather cools they are beginning their move outwards. Flounder are loving soft plastics this week such as matrix shads or glow Shrimp. There have been no signs of Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) so far this week. BAIT REPORT – There are still some Finger Mullet hanging around this week although no reports of Porgy so far. Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is a mixed bag of fish turning up this week and they have all been great sizes. Reds (Drum, Red) are hitting very well on Porgies and Spots. Anglers are jigging the tidelines to find them. Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) have been mixed in biting the same baits. The Surf has been full of great fish this week. Pompano, Florida are just about everywhere and loving live or dead Shrimp around the bridges, pylons and inshore wrecks. Fish bites are working quite well too. Whiting (Kingfish, Kingfish, Southern & Kingfish, Northern) have shown up on the same baits as well. OFFSHORE – Now that Grouper, Red and Grouper, Gag are closed there is not a whole lot happening in the offshore. Some anglers are live baiting the tide lines however there has not been a solid fish bit in the area this week. BAIT REPORT – There are tons of Porgy and Spot running providing ample bait for anglers this week. Gray’s Tackle & Guide Service 850-492-2666

Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – Off the piers anglers have also caught some good sized Kings (Mackerel, King). The Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) bite has begun to pick up in this area lately. They have been hitting live Bull Minnows or berkley gulps. Reds (Drum, Red) are also schooling up in the bay so anglers are throwing anything white with either a curly tail or bull tail on a jig. The fish are right near the top so it doesn’t take much effort. The weather has been keeping anglers off the nearshore as well so there aren’t too many reports from farther out at this point. OFFSHORE – It has been a tough go in the deeper water as of late. The unfavorable weather has made getting on the water extremely difficult for anglers. There were a few reports of a good Grouper (Grouper, Gag) bite at 200 ft and beyond. Anyone who would like to head out on the water this holiday when conditions lie down can always check out our Tips feature which provides additional information and suggestions on how to improve your catch. BAIT REPORT – There is plenty of bait running this week. Cigar Minnows, Threadfins and big Alewives are swimming around the beach, pier and nearshore wrecks. The cold weather may affect this into the weekend but our sources say we will just have to wait and see. INSHORE – The most prominent fish in this area are definitely the Bull Reds (Drum, Red) this week. They are coming up in fairly large sizes just about everywhere. Bait such as Pinfish, Mullet and Shrimp are working well on a jig. Anglers continue to see a spotty Mackerel, King bite in the bay however they are beginning to move back out. BAIT REPORT – Menhaden have become spotty this week and there are no other reports of bait swimming at this time. Half Hitch Bait & Tackle 321-264-0996 ilms0331@gmail.com

INSHORE – Mackerel, King are still swimming in the bay. They are loving Menhaden and are chasing the run. Bull Reds (Drum, Red) have also been found inshore, and lots of keeper sizes. Pinfish, Mullet and Shrimp are all working well under a jig. The Flounder, Gulf have pretty much moved out at this point and are a fairly scarce, as well as any Seatrout, Spotted that was biting. OFFSHORE – The deeper water has been slow this past week as not a lot of anglers have been getting farther out. Most have remained inshore however there are some boaters that have brought back reports. The Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin & Tuna, Yellowfin) bite is continuing around the rigs about 72-75 miles out. Anglers have been chunking live bait for them. BAIT REPORT – Menhaden are running inshore and can be found in Chico and the harbor. They are working well for both inshore and offshore fishing. Pensacola Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Reds (Drum, Red) have had a pretty good bite from slot sized to keeper. They are hitting Bull Minnows, Pinfish, Mullet and Shrimp. Flounder, Southern are also hitting the same bait however they are beginning to move out. There are some Seatrout, Spotted in the rivers and into the bays although the sizes are pretty well picked through at this point of the season. Live bait are working well for Trout. Basically: in the shallow water where you can find the bait, you can find the fish. OFFSHORE – It has still been pretty breezy in the farther out locations this week. There have been no reports of offshore fishing lately. Most fish swimming are shut down at this time. If you do decide to head out in the next few days you can always consult our Tips feature that provides more information and suggestions that could help improve your catch. You could also head into Gray’s Tackle & Guide Service for an in-person report on recent trips. BAIT REPORT – The Mullet are beginning to move and can be caught on the outside at this point. Pensacola Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The deep waters are safe from anglers lately as conditions have been way too rough to get out on the water. No one has been taking on the conditions this week however previously anglers made their way out to the edge of State water at the 9 mile mark to fish for Snapper (Snapper, Red) throwing cigar Minnows or Live Pinfish.

INSHORE – There have been ample reports of Catfish, Hardhead specifically in the surf. They can be caught using pieces of Shrimp either live or frozen. Whiting (Kingfish, Gulf & Kingfish, Southern) and a few Pompano (Pompano, Florida) along with Reds (Drum, Red) have been chasing all the Mullet in shore so if you find the Mullet you can find the fish.

BAIT REPORT – Our sources are revealing Mullet and Pinfish are running. If you are fishing under docks or in shallow grassy flats you have a good chance of bringing in quite a few of these.

Pensacola Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Although the wind has made offshore fishing challenging we are still seeing great results. Wahoo have not been as frequent as last week however we are still seeing some big fish turn up. Some Blue Marlin, White Marlin and even some small Dolphin are moving in closer. A lot of anglers are trolling Ballyhoo or anything blue and white. Specifically purple and black is reported to be working best for Wahoo. Bottom fishing produced some Snapper last weekend but we don’t expect to see many more of those caught in the coming weeks.

INSHORE – In the bay we continue to see lot of Redfish and Kings munching on Live Menhaden. We can expect to see lots of Flounder as they begin their migration into the bay to spawn. This can make hooking Flounder hit and miss but your best bet is with a Gulp or Live Bull Minnows. If you’re heading up the pass you’ll find Gulf Flounder where alternatively we see Southern Flounder in the bay. Don’t be surprised if you reel in a Spanish Mackerel as there are still a few left out there also.

BAIT REPORT – The Menhaden are starting to make their way out and doing all the work for you as the Redfish and Kings are going right for them. Load up on them while numbers are good.

Pensacola Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The water has been kind of rough lately, making offshore fishing tough. A couple of White Marlin and Sailfish have been caught offshore using Squid. On the weekends, we have our state water Snapper season, which is only out to 9 miles. The Snapper are quite scattered. If you find you’re not getting many bites try resizing your baits or leaders down a bit till you find the sweet spot. INSHORE – Redfish should be filling up the bay before too long. Plenty of Spanish Mackerel being caught in the bay as well as some Flounder. For the Flounder, try using a soft plastic like a gulp, and for live bait try using a Bull Minnow or live Shrimp. For the Redfish, try using Lazytails. BAIT REPORT – Finger Mullets and Bull Minnow are running right now. Outcast Bait & Tackle 3520 Barrancas Ave Pensacola, FL 850-457-1450

Pensacola Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – It’s Red Snapper season right now, but just on the weekends in September and October. Anything is working on the Snapper, but a big Carolina rig with a 5/0 or 610 circle hook is popular right now. Stay inside 9 miles and live bait is plentiful. There is a variety of bait fish to be netted, but Cigar Minnows seem to be the most common. INSHORE – There are lots of Black Snapper around to be caught off the beach and piers. Flounder is starting to move in from the North into the Lower Bay, from the rivers. The Big Redfish are being caught on bridges right now. The Mahi are coming in close, anywhere you can find a school of bait fish, the Mahi are close behind. Anywhere by the piers should be easy to find a school of fish. BAIT REPORT – Cigar Minnows are around anywhere within 9 miles. Tight Lines 711 N Pace Blvd, Pensacola, FL 850 433 2962

Pensacola Fishing Report

Offshore: Black Snapper have been hot lately and Spanish Mackerel are starting to show up in the bay, and they are hitting silver Gotcha lures right and left. The Mingo bite has been good on cut squid on a 2 or 3 hook rig, and some anglers are picking up quite a few chicken Dolphin in close, bottom fishing in about 80 feet of water.

Inshore: Some anglers are reporting pretty good luck with the Flounder along the shore at night. Although the Redfish have not shown up yet in large numbers, they are expected to begin congregating any day now.

Pensacola Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The reefs just off shore have been fishing well for Amberjack. There’s been some Grouper out there while bottom fishing for Amberjack. Live baits are best out there like Pinfish, Croakers, Alewives, and Cigar Minnows (if you can catch them). Frozen baits that will work are Squid, Mullet, and Cigar Minnows.

INSHORE – The intercostal side is producing Redfish, Trout, and the odd Flounder. The Trout and Redfish will gladly take a shrimp as will the Flounder, but if targeting strictly Flounder you would be better off using Bull Minnows on a carolina rig. The beach side is seeing the tail end of their Tarpon fishing. Off the piers there is also lots of Spanish Mackerel and King Mackerel.

BAIT REPORT – This time of year brings us lots Alewives. Bull Minnows along with Finger Mullet are in good numbers through flats and beaches.

Outcast Bait and Tackle is having their fall sale until Sunday! They also have a tent sale with piles of gear priced to go.

OFFSHORE – There are Kingfish and Spanish Mackerel out in the gulf right now, and there are a few bull reds too. Your bait of choice is going to be Cigar Minnows. Try to look for holes where cooler water gets caught.

INSHORE – The inshore has been too hot to fish recently and David over at Outcast Bait & Tackle has not heard a thing. If you are going to go fishing, go in the black of morning or at night.

BAIT REPORT – You can find Cigar Minnows along the shore.

INSHORE: Anglers are doing pretty good inshore with snapper, redfish, a few speckled trout, flounder, and Spanish mackerel. Those anglers looking to catch their own bait will find pin fish and pilchards if they know where to find them. New penny gulps are always a favorite for artificial bait in this area, though color does not seem to make a huge difference. Again, because the water is warming up to nearly 90 degrees, early morning and evening are the best times to fish as long as the tide is moving.

Pensacola Fishing Report

Offshore: Grouper are doing well, especially about 3 or 4 miles out past the areas that are getting hit pretty hard. Large live bait such as pinfish is working very well. Bait fish are readily available right at the pass.

Inshore: Pompano are plentiful off the beach and Spanish Mackerel out in the pass. Redfish are a little slow, especially in the heat of the day, so it’s best to get out there early. The night fishing has been quite a bit better than day fishing lately. Don’t forget to get some live shrimp, as they are attracting quite a variety of fish. It’s good to remember that the Gulf waters in this area are rather shallow and protected by the Florida peninsula. Fishing doesn’t change much unless a red tide shows up.

Pensacola Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – It was really rough out during the early portion of this week and not many of our guys got offshore. But Rusty over at Outcast Bait & Tackle got out Monday morning and was catching Snapper pretty good on Cigar Minnows and Northern Mackerel.

INSHORE – The bite has been off and on because of the rain and hot water. Early in the morning and late in the afternoon on the grass is a great time and place to be if you want to target the Speckled Trout and Redfish. There are also a few Flounder in the pass. For bait you want to net up Bull Minnows or Croaker if you can. Failing that Shrimp is always a good bait to use, and there is Pinfish around too.

BAIT REPORT – Bait is all over on the shorelines which is where you catch Bull Minnows, Finger Mullet and Croaker. Target the grassy shorelines or the grass flats. If you are going artificial MirrOlure works good, Gulp too. If you are targeting specifically the Spanish Mackerel, go for a shiny Gotcha lure or spoon in the pass – and if that doesn’t work try a white bucktail jig. There is some Cigar Minnows and Sardines around the buoys and Massachusetts.

Pensacola Fishing Report

OFFSHORE: Fishing offshore is great! If you want to bottom fish you’ll want to head out the one of the many artificial wrecks. There you’ll find tons of Snapper. For them you’ll want to drop some live bait, which you can catch on your way out. If trolling is more your style then you’re going to have to head way out. There you’ll find you can troll for Dolphin and Wahoo. As always the dolphin love a good Ballyhoo so throw that out.

INSHORE: Inshore there are lots of Spanish and King Mackerel. These are doing well on trolling spoons and dusters. There are also a lot of Redfish and Trout, particularly in the morning. You’ll want to use live bait like Threadfins, Alewives and Sardines for that.

BAIT: There is lots of bait around. Especially Threadfins, Alewives and Sardines.

OFFSHORE – There are lots of Red Snapper around. You’ll want to bottom fish for those. Find yourself a rocky bottom or reef. There you’ll want to drop live bait like Cigar Minnows, or Pinfish. If you are more of a fan of cutbait, try Mackerel.

INSHORE – Over at Ruby’s Fishcamp they have been seeing some Brim off the pier. No one has been catching much of anything because it has been really hot and the water has been muddy. That being said there are some Trout is you fish early in the morning or late at night. There are also some Redfish and Flounder. All of these fish are hitting on live Shrimp.

BAIT REPORT – There are lots of Cigar Minnows and Pinfish so sabiki those up.

Pensacola Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Snapper season is open until Midnight on the 11th in Federal Waters and until July 12th in State waters. Enjoy the season while it lasts because the bite is good! The Mangrove Snapper bite is also good. We are looking forward to the opening of Gag Grouper season on July 1st. Out there you’ll also find Scamp Groupers and Amberjacks which are good but closed. Scamp Groupers love Cigar Minnows or Alewives. King and Spanish Mackerel have been good. Anglers in the area have been finding bottom fishing success with Cigar Minnows, Boston Mackerel and Sardines. If trolling is more your style Wahoo have been hot around 300 feet of water just south of the edge. At the Massachusetts wreck, about 15 miles out by the pass is full of fish. If you can, go during the week when there aren’t many boats. When it is busy the fish tend to get skittish.

INSHORE – Under dock lights or in the morning when the water is cooler the Speckled Trout have been biting well. Using Spanish Mackerel as your bait you’ll likely to find that the Redfish and Black Snapper are pretty good. Redfish travel in a school so where there is one you’re bound to find more. The Black Snapper bit is very tide dependant so take care not to fish the slack.

BAIT REPORT – The bait is is good. They are on the bottom and less wary there bait is good. sometimes it is on the bottom though, it is easier to catch them on the bottom because they are less wary. Sabiki up what you can at the buoys, there are lots of Hard Tails, Threadfins, Alewives, Cigar Minnows, and Pinfish.
