INSHORE – The inshore morning anglers are finding good bites of Stripers (Bass, Striped) and Drum (Drum, Black). PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – The offshore bite has been great for anyone that has made time during the morning to head offshore. Anglers are hooking above average Yellowfin (Tuna, Yellowfin) along with fish up to 65 inches. The day trips have definitely been productive for hooking some good sized fish. Ballyhoo is working well as bait.

Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

INSHORE – Sharks and Skates (Skate, Winter) are the main bites locally. Towards Hatteras from Buxton we are seeing Blow Toads (Puffer, Smooth), scattered Sea Mullet and Drum (Drum, Black). Long Shoal river is holding plenty of Specks (Seatrout, Spotted). The numbers are outstanding if you are fishing with MirrOdine 17 or 18s. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – Bluefin (Tuna, Bluefin) have been hot this week. They are up to 600 pounds. The best sizes are North of the point, about 38 miles out. It hasn’t been a challenge to catch them, you just have to be there. Scattered Yellowfin, Blackfin and Wahoo are also showing up. Towards Hatteras there are also some Kings (Mackerel, King).

OFFSHORE – We are seeing some nice weather in the area as of late so things are looking up! Bluefin (Tuna, Bluefin) are being caught fairly consistently however they are actually too big to keep. Most are up to 103 inches. Recent catches also include some keeper Bluefin and plenty of Sharks (Shark, Mako). Both trolling and chunking on the day trips is productive. Long stand up fights on light tackle have taken place this week. There hasn’t been much Yellowfin (Tuna, Yellowfin), Mahi (Dolphin) or Wahoo on our recent trips.

INSHORE – Anglers hare heading out to the points searching for Blow Toads (Puffer, Smooth) along with decent numbers of Puppy Drum (Drum, Red). Recently the nasty weather has made surf fishing tough during the day however determined anglers were out targeting Sharks and Skates (Skate, Winter). PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – It’s been a bit tough to get offshore in the past few days however the weekend bite consisted of some great Bluefin (Tuna, Bluefin) catches! We hope to see this continue once conditions have cleared up.

INSHORE – This week we are finding that Blow Toads (Puffers, Smooth) are the most consistent catch turning up during the day. They seem to be just about everywhere, especially around ramp 43 mixed with some puppy Drum (Drum, Red) and catch and release Black Drum (Drum, Black). Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

INSHORE – Another tough week of fishing for anglers around here! The wind, rain and cold prevail yet again and the bite has been difficult. Over the weekend we were seeing some fish caught towards Buxton. Puppy Drum (Drum, Red) and Bluefish were the only notable catches. Drum (Drum, Black) and Sharks were also swimming around the point. Towards Frisco and Hatteras the Sea Mullet (Kingfish, Southern) and Bluefish were also decent. More recently the Puppy Drum bite has increased around the boat ramps. You may find a few Puffers (Puffer, Smooth) mixed in too, especially around Frisco. Conditions are still hit or miss however we hope to see things clear up very soon. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – Though conditions are a bit too unfavorable to get offshore for the most part, there was a few nice Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) caught out of Oregon Inlet over the weekend. Light tackle was the key on the day trip.

Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

INSHORE – Although we have seen some outstanding weather this Winter, it’s been pretty seasonal this week, and looks as though it will stay this way into next week. We are still seeing the bite fire up which is a good sign. Heading towards Buxton the day bite for Sea Mullet (Kingfish, Southern) are becoming more plentiful along the surf. Bluefish are mixed in. They can also be caught at ramp 43 swimming with Puffers (Puffer, Smooth). If you are heading to Frisco Pier the Puffers are a lot more plentiful. Puppy Drum (Drum, Red) are just beginning to heat up at the pier as well, however they are still scattered overall. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

BAIT REPORT – Sea Mullet are swimming the surf towards Hatteras. Shad can also be caught from the pier locally.

OFFSHORE – Seas were high and the rough waters made offshore fishing tough throughout the day. Once things calmed down the Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) were biting well and we were easily catching great numbers. There are mixed in with a ton of Bonito (Bonito, Little Tunny) which were difficult to avoid but we still managed to bring in most of the Sails. Earlier in the week we even hooked a 35 pound Wahoo. Things are really heating up for the season!

Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

INSHORE – Towards Rodanthe / Hatteras area we are seeing Puffers (Puffer, Smooth), Sea Mullet and Reds (Drum, Red) turning up off the surf. Red Drum and Shad are coming off the piers and beaches locally but they haven’t fired up. Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are slowly beginning to bite around the South side of the Pamlico Sound. As the temperature increases the bite will as well. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – There are a lot of big Bluefin (Tuna, Bluefin) being caught in the past few weeks. Search 16-17 miles out around the 65 Degree tower to the Point at 40 miles. They are closer in as well however the steady bite is farther out. Look for the big Blues around the Menhaden. The bigger pods are farther offshore with the warmer water. This should change in the next few weeks. A lot of times anglers are Greensticking for them. Bigger schools have produced fish on the troll or on a vertical jig with live bait. Horse Ballyhoo with Islanders is a productive trolling setup.

Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

INSHORE – Puppy Drum, Black Drum (Drum, Black), Skates (Skate, Winter) and Sharks are all biting when the water is cold. South towards Hatteras we are seeing Blow Toads (Puffer, Smooth) in good numbers. Shrimp or Fishbites in Bloodworm or Sand Flea flavor are the most productive baits. Puppy Drum (Drum, Red) and the occasional Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) has also been caught. Berkley Gulp in White or Chartreuse is working better than live or frozen bait this week. If you are going to use live or frozen bait, Shrimp or Mullet will be your best two. Sea Mullet (Kingfish, Southern) are in fairly good numbers to the South. The sound has been quiet. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – Bluefin are as steady as Bluefin will get for us. Yellowfin and Blackfin (Tuna, Bluefin & Tuna, Yellowfin & Tuna, Blackfin) are bycatches from day to day. Mahi (Dolphin) are mixed in, and a few Blue Marlin (Billfish – Marlin, Blue) were also caught incidentally towards Hatteras. Everything is about 40 miles out of Oregon Inlet at the stream.

BAIT REPORT – Hickory Shad can be caught along the beach and is doing particularly well off Jennette’s Pier.

INSHORE – During the Winter months the fishing is a bit slow. Captains are doing some commercial fishing offshore. This week we suspect anglers off of Jennette’s Pier are seeing Puppy Drum (Drum, Red). PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – Big Bluefin (Tuna, Bluefin) are being targeted by commercial anglers this week. There have also been some Yellowfin & Blackfin (Tuna, Yellowfin & Tuna, Blackfin) brought in as well. Not a lot of recreational anglers have headed out during the beginning of the week but this should pick up by the weekend.

OFFSHORE – When the boats can make it on the water they are heading to the Gulf Stream for Yellowfin and Bluefin (Tuna, Yellowfin & Tuna, Bluefin). The troll has been more effective on them. Dragging Ballyhoo behind a Witch is your best bet to hook them.

Nearshore Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) are biting just North of Cape Hatteras. So far they are consistent and the sizes are fair. A few Drum (Drum, Red) have been hanging around as well. They are mostly on the smaller side. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

INSHORE – Puppy Drum and Stripers (Bass, Striped) were caught in the Oregon Inlet and Jennette’s Pier this past week. There’s not a whole lot of beach action for Stripers. Buxton Point has also been productive for Puppy Drum (Drum, Red). No one is going very far off the shore with the recent weather. The Striper fishing in the harbor hasn’t been as good as we’d hoped however it should improve when the weather is nicer.

OFFSHORE – When the weather clears up we expect to see tons of Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin & Tuna, Yellowfin & Tuna, Bluefin) towards the Stream. Kings (Mackerel, King) are biting on live bait down in Hatteras. A lot of anglers have been fishing out of the south as the Cape provides a bit of shelter. Some good sized kings are roughly 15 miles out where you can find rock piles.

BAIT REPORT – Bait are under the birds this week. Menhaden are large in the inlet and on the beach. They have been run up onto the beach by predators in some areas. It’s pretty easy to get fresh bait when the bait is slammed up on the beach.

There has been some decent Trout fishing to the South around the Point at Buxton, Hatteras and Frisco. The water is a bit too cold locally. There hasn’t been much being caught from boats off the beach. Stripers (Bass, Striped) are hot in the Sound. Search the bridges to find them. INSHORE – In the Sound – Cobia out of Blair’s channel but not so much out of Wallace. The new restrictions have caused a little bit of headaches for Cobia fisherman but that hasn’t stopped anyone from catching fish. There’s been good trolling for Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) with spoons in the sound. Redfish got hit hard and seemed to have spread out. Gray Trout (Weakfish) have been caught in decent numbers but not many Specks (Seatrout, Spotted). Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are along the holes anywhere inside the inlet. From the surf there is Bluefish, Sea Mullet (Kingfish, Southern), Small Croakers (Croaker, Atlantic) and some Puppy (Red) Drum. Last week Drum (Drum, Black) were being caught off the beach. We are seeing a couple more Pompano (Pompano, Florida) show up. There was Cobia past the second sand bar being sight fished. There’s also Spanish jumping about half a mile out. You can’t really cast far enough from the beach to get the spanish but you can definitely get some Puppy Drum and Pompano.

OFFSHORE – Towards the stream there’s a couple gaffer Mahi (Dolphin) along with a sporadic Wahoo bite. We are also getting reports of some Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) out there, too.

Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

INSHORE – Farther South there are some great reports of Kingfish, Southern and keeper sized Puppy Drum (Drum, Red). The surf and pier are producing undersized Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Kingfish as well. There have also been reports of Bass, Striped by the bridges however most of them are smaller sized as well. Anglers are throwing predominantly stretches or bucktails for the Stripers.

OFFSHORE – Tuna, Bluefin are turning up in great sizes so far this week and are loving Ballyhoo as usual. This bite is expected to continue through the rest of the week.

Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

INSHORE – Today is the first day of winter. We just got a little taste of winter. Now we are having rain and a warm up through Christmas. Surf fishing on this side of the bridge is nonexistent. Unusual slow on the other side of the bridge with some Bluefish action in Buxton with small Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Puppy Drum (Drum, Red) as well. Striper (Bass, Striped) fishing in the sound was good. Anglers caught their limits. The winds are S at 7 and the water temp is 57 degrees.

Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

INSHORE – There are some Stripers (Bass, Striped) turning up in the sound this week on rattle traps and 1 oz bucktails. Soft plastics are performing fairly well this week too along with stretch 15s on the troll. Anglers have also been using diving plugs. It seems they will try just about anything as the Stripers have been the main focus and most of the action this week. There are some Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) that have come up on bass assassin soft plastics or gulp jigs as well. Blues (Bluefish) have had a spotty bite in the same area however neither of the two species are near steady this week. The water is still warm so the fishing is not where it should be at this time of year. Anglers hope it will pick up once the temperature cools down.

OFFSHORE – There is still a bite offshore this week. Reports of Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin & Tuna, Yellowfin) have come in. The bite is far from steady however they are still out there in good sizes for anglers willing to put their time in. Most boaters do not make many trips this time of year so there is not a whole lot of competition for the fish.

BAIT REPORT – So far this week there are no signs of bait running. There may still be a few straggler Mullet however there have been no reports as of yet.

Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

INSHORE – There are fish swimming just about everywhere in the area this week. Along the surf anglers are seeing good numbers of Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) turning up on berkley gulp or soft bodied things. Most of them are fairly small sized at this point. Once the temperature cools down a bit we expect to see some bigger sizes however the occasional keeper is turning up for anglers who can pick through. Not many have been more than 12 inches long. Puppy Drum (Drum, Red) are also not large enough to keep either as most are coming in just shy of regulation. There were still Sea Mullet (Kingfish, Southern & Kingfish, Northern) off the piers however they have closed this week along with some Puffer, Smooth. Lots of smaller Bluefish have been caught on cut mullet from the same areas while the Puffer are hitting soft bodied lures similar to the Trout. In the sound Stripers (Bass, Striped) have been catching well from the boat around bridges. Stretch 15 and 20s, rattle traps and double bucktails are the rigs of choice so far this week. White, yellow or chartreuse bucktails are the ideal setup. The Stripers have gotten big at this point, however overall number are less than last week. Anglers are even catching some right off the bridge or under them in the early morning or evening. The inlet is fairly shoaled up right now so boaters will have to pick through. There has not been many reports of fish coming off the shores so far this week.

OFFSHORE – The fishing in the deep water has been doing very well this week. Boaters can make a 40 mile ride to find some good sizes of Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin & Tuna, Blackfin) this week in the stream. There have also been a few Mackerel (Mackerel, King) showing up in the same area. Farther out anglers have seen a spotty Wahoo bite mixed in and surprisingly a couple of Billfish – Swordfish and Billfish – Sailfish brought in around 75-80 miles. Artificials continue to do well for offshore fish this week.

BAIT REPORT – We continue to see some Mullet running however it is moving out with the cold weather and most anglers will turn to plastics instead of targeting them.

Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

INSHORE – All the action from close in has been coming from the Stripers (Bass, Striped) this week. The weather has seemed to clear up and anglers have been able to make it out on the water. The bite has been really hot and it has not been difficult for anglers to hook one this week. Stripers are all bundled up in the Sound and don’t seem to be moving too far from there at this point.

OFFSHORE – The nice weather has produced some great fishing in the deep water this week. Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin & Tuna, Blackfin) have been biting along with lots of Wahoo. They are loving live Ballyhoo or any similar artificial. Dolphin have moved out at this point and there are no reports so far this week.

BAIT REPORT – There have not been any reports of bait running so far this week.

Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

INSHORE – The weather has seemed to calm down from yesterday’s conditions, although it is still cold today despite the sun. Whitecaps are still rolling so boaters should take caution when heading out this week. There has not been a whole lot of action inshore as of late. Puffer, Smooth are turning up along with some Bluefish. No one has been fishing the Oregon inlet this week. The occasional Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) has turned up on the beach as well as some puppy drum (Drum, Black). Around the bridge there have been great reports of Bass, Striped most being within keeper size. Few are undersized at this point. Anglers have been using rattle traps to hook them and finding this quite effective. Chartreuse with a curly tail or green, both light or dark are the hottest colors this week.

OFFSHORE – The weather has been pretty nasty in this area lately. Wind and rain have deterred most boaters from heading offshore. Our sources suspect that when the conditions calm down there should still be a Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin & Tuna, Blackfin) bite however the Wahoo and Dolphin may become spotty by this point. Should anglers decide to head out for the holidays they can always consult our Tips feature which provides additional information and suggestions to improve the catch. Whalebone Tackle can also provide an up to the minute report so fishermen know exactly what to expect when they hit the water.

BAIT REPORT – Our sources have not seen any bait running as of late. Most are turning to artificial at this time.

Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

INSHORE – Bass, Striped are reported to have a solid bite in the shallower water. Anglers have been reaching their limits in good sizes as well. They are still hiding around structures and bridges and can be caught using Stretch 15-25s, rattle traps and 1 oz. bucktails. Chartreuse with a curly tail seems to be the color of choice however light and dark green are working as well. Flounder, Summer (Fluke) and Sheepshead have also made an appearance on live bait as well.

OFFSHORE – The bite farther out has been pretty steady as of late. Anglers have been catching limits on Tuna, Yellowfin along with some nice sized Tuna, Blackfin. A little farther out there have still been some reports of Wahoo and smaller sized Dolphin swimming. Trolling with skirted Ballyhoo has produced the most success for the offshore fish.

BAIT REPORT – There are reports of bait running at this time.

Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

INSHORE – Similar to last week, Stripers (Bass, Striped) have been hiding around the bridges. Boaters are trolling using stretch 15-25s, rattle traps and 1 oz. Bucktails. Chartreuse with a curly tail seems to be the artificial of choice however light and dark green are working as well. Some anglers are using live Eels, Croakers or Pinfish however being that the catch is usually pretty small a majority are preferring to use artificials as it’s mostly catch and release fishing. Along the beaches there is a great Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite along with Bluefish, Drum (Drum, Black & Drum, Red) getting larger in the surf. Trout have been chasing artificials such as a berkley gulp, bass assassin or zman in various colours. It is really a day to day process of figuring out what the fish prefer. Blues are hitting most anything including fresh Mullet. Drum, both puppy and larger sizes have also preferred fresh Mullet. Surprisingly, anglers have been hooking Puffer (Puffer, Smooth) on Shrimp or Bloodworms. This species is normally not in season at this time however with the unpredictable weather lately they have been biting. False Albacore (Bonito, Little Tunny) have also been found in the surf.

OFFSHORE – When the weather is accommodating there has been a good bite on Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin & Tuna, Yellowfin) with some fishermen even hitting their limits. Farther out at the 25-30 mile range there have been reports of some Dolphin and Wahoo swimming. Billfish – Sailfish were doing great as well and anglers have been hooking all of these species while trolling with skirted Ballyhoo.

BAIT REPORT – Most of the finger sized Mullet are gone. There’s also plenty of Spearing along the beach.

Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has been good however until recently there had not been sizes big enough to keep. This past weekend there were some 20 inches and larger caught so they are slowly growing. They are hitting berkley gulps and similar artificials. Puffer, Northern were fairly prominent last week but are starting to slow down. Little Bluefish and Sea Mullet are in a good run while Reds (Drum, Red) are becoming scattered. There have been reports of 30-50 lb Reds off the piers as well as Stripers (Bass, Striped) near the bridges. Stretch 15 or 20s are working best for them. Most of them aren’t big enough to keep at this time but anglers who make their way out in the morning are catching larger sizes. In the outlet there are Bluefish, and more smaller Reds. Shrimp, Puffers and Mullet can be found off the piers.

OFFSHORE – The deep waters are still providing some great bites for offshore anglers. Although the conditions have been rough the Tuna bite (Tuna, Blackfin & Tuna, Yellowfin) have been great. They are biting on Cedar Plugs as a first choice. There continue to be reports of scattered Dolphin and Wahoo while anglers troll for Tuna. They are hitting mostly spoons.

BAIT REPORT – Finger Mullet have just about left for the year and the next front will probably move them out entirely. There are still some Menhaden swimming so live baits are still around to catch at this time.

Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

Nags Head / Kill Devil Hills / Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Bottom fishing is slow right now since Red Snapper season is closed. Your best bet is go go Trolling for the strong Dolphin, Tuna and Blue Marlin Bite. You’ll find these fish in the Gulf Stream. You’ll want to pick up some frozen Ballyhoo from your local bait shop for these fish. For the Dolphin you’ll want to troll some smaller Ballyhoo and medium sized ones for the Tuna.

INSHORE ATLANTIC – In the inshore atlantic You’ll find Cobia and Dolphin. For the Cobia you’ll want to drop live bait and as always Dolphin love the frozen Ballyhoo. In the inlet you’ll find lots of Drum. Justin from TW’s Tackle likes to fish the falling tide.

INSHORE SOUND – In the sound there are lots of fish biting. You’ll find Flounder, Drum and Trout. If you want to go artificial use Berkley Gulps and soft plastic grubs. If you prefer live bait use Shrimp or Squid for these inshore fish.

BAIT REPORT – If you want to catch your own bait you’ll find that the Pinfish are thick in the area.

Nags Head / Kill Devil Hills / Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Try trolling for Tuna, Marlin and Dolphin using Ballyhoo with hot pink and bright green skirts. Your best bet is to buy frozen Ballyhoo. There is also a good Grouper and Snapper bite. If you plan on targetting them you want to fish around hard bottoms and wrecks, the reef right now is especially good. Drop down Pinfish or other small, live, fish. Failing that you can probably get there attention with some cut bait.

INSHORE – ATLANTIC: TWs Tackle tells us that there is a good mix of fish biting on the inshore. There is Bluefish, Puffer, Spanish Mackerel, and Sea Mullet. If you are using real bait then stick to fresh Shrimp, Bloodworms, or cut mullet. Off the beach or pier you’ll find Blue Fish, Puffer, Spanish Mackerel, and Sea Mullet. If you prefer to use artificial baits, try using a Gotcha Plug.

ALBEMARLE SOUND INSHORE: On the sound side there are Trout, Flounder and other smaller fish. Since the fish are generally smaller here you are going to want to use smaller lures, plugs, and baits. However, they can still make fun game.

BAIT REPORT – If you plan on trolling, you can get Ballyhoo from TW’s tackle who brings it in from down south. Live baits that can be found locally include Shrimp and Mullet which you can also have success on.
