Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – Saltwater angling has all but wrapped up in Massachusetts. There will still be some small holdover Bass (Bass, Striped) in canals and rivers. Some areas on the west of Cape Cod Bay will see decent amount of Herring throughout the winter. Early winter still provides some Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) opportunities for recreational angling. The state has some really good freshwater fishing in the ponds and lakes. Stay tuned for new in-app Freshwater hot spots to get you through the offseason till everything fires back up in the spring. Have a great winter and stay safe.

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – Bluefish and Bass (Bass, Striped) are chasing Pogies from South Beach to State Beach. Bass are also caught by the Sylvia Bridge, Vineyard Haven Bridge, and Tashmoo Bridge. Throwing plugs has been pretty productive. There are small Bass around the channel edge at the wall. There may be bigger sizes under the schoolies. Bonito (Bonito, Atlantic) and Albacore (Bonito, Little Tunny) are thinning out. Albacore have pretty much left while there may still be Bonito hanging around. Swimming plugs and SP Minnows are great to took them. Live Eels at night during a rising tide are productive along with live lining Bunker during the day for the Stripers. Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – There were some HUGE Bass (Bass, Striped) coming in from the beach however people are working for them! The water is beginning to get cooler but the wind has been strong. Conditions are just beginning to settle down. The best fishing has been in the evening using Bunker, Eels or Squid chunked on the bottom. There haven’t been any Bonito (Bonito, Atlantic) or Tautog reported just yet. There are some Albacore (Bonito, Little Tunny) turning up. Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) had recently moved in however we haven’t seen any. It’s been a bit too windy for anglers to head offshore so the focus has remained inshore. Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Scup fishing is still in full swing this week. Bluefish are doing well but thinning out a bit. They are in and around the canal up to 14 lbs. Stripers (Bass, Striped) have been very good. Some are over 50 bs. You can see them breaking and feeding at sunrise. They are definitely part of the migration running the West and East end of the canal. They seem to be everywhere. The length of the daylight has triggered the migration so they are moving. The Stripers are still biting to the North as well. Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] are also still biting this week. Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) are closed. Anglers are just beginning to look for Tautog using Green Crabs in the deeper areas of Buzzards Bay. We see some nice weather ahead for the week so far and the fishing should continue to do well. Redtop Sporting Goods will be at Striperfest this weekend in Falmouth! They will be in the Pure Fishing Tent so stop by and say hello! You can also pick up NEW Sebile lures! Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – The canal has turned on. There are plenty of Bass (Bass, Striped) on the evening, overnight or dawn bite. Anglers are mostly jigging for the bigger fish. In Cape Cod bay there had been a lot of big fish from Sandwich to Scituate Harbor. It has thinned out a bit but the fish that are swimming are big so put some time in to find them. The 3 oz River Fox jigs are working well. Bluefish are peppered throughout the bay as well. They are everywhere and taking anything including Rangers or Hawkins. Anything surface is productive. On the back the Bass are schooled up in places that are holding Sand Eels on the bottom. From Marconi to Monomoy just watch out of the Dogfish. The rips off Monomoy are holding a lot of Bass. The fish off Chatham are a bit smaller but there are fish. In Nantucket Sound the bottom bite is producing Bass, Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black), and Scup. Gun Classes are happening this week! See store for details. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – The Dump has slowed down a bit but Wahoo have come in. Yellowfin and Bigeye (Tuna, Yellowfin & Tuna, Bigeye) have moved in as well. Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Bass (Bass, Striped) has been a bit slower, however they are catching them around the upper island. The best time to target them is at night. You can still catch them right from the shore. Bluefish have been hot around Chappy this week hitting topwaters. The rips are still holding fish for boaters as well using SP Minnows or live Eels. Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) are in deeper water, 40-50 ft. Anglers are catching them while trolling for Stripers. They seem to be everywhere. The Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] has been picking up. Boaters are doing a lot better than surf casters. There has been some solid fish. There’s more quantity than there is quality right now. Fluke rigs have been most productive. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – Anglers are finally finding Bass (Bass, Striped) off the rips off of Chatham. This is a good sign this year. They vary in size but if you put some time in you will find a keeper. Ripping Flies or Molded Squid by Slick Fish has worked very well. In the Sound the Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) are still around and the boats are beginning to target Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)], especially around Nantucket. They are around 10 lbs. Bluefish are off the Vineyard but that’s about it so far. As the water warms up we hope to see them move into the Sound and Bay. In the bay there are huge schools of Pogie in the middle of the bay in deep water. There will usually be some Stripers hanging around them. From the Sound there are still some fish during the early morning bite but they aren’t crazy. There are a ton of small fish on the shoals, not a lot of keepers but they provide a fun bite.

OFFSHORE – The Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) have been slow to the East. The Orca are changing conditions and pushing the fish around so we will have to see how it turns out.

BAIT REPORT – Pogie (Menhaden) are swimming the bay this week. There are new products arriving at Powder Horn Outfitters all the time! Stop in and check it out!

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – Larry’s Tackle Shop was a busy place this weekend as regulars and vacationers were gearing up for the fishing. While the bite on larger Stripers (Bass, Striped) has slowed a bit there are lots of small fish in the 12- to 17-inch class being caught and released all around the island. Peter said there are still guys taking keeper bass but not as many but the Bluefish have taken up the slack with Kastmasters and Ballistic Missiles doing most of the damage. There are small pockets of Squid around but you have to hunt for them and Peter recommends using the Yo-Zuri squid rigs in the glow color which have been the hot lure of late.

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is a lot of big Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black). Anglers are doing well in the middle ground with Bass (Bass, Striped) and Blues (Bluefish). There have been some Bass at night around the island. The fishing is good since there is so much Squid everywhere. For the day bite in the rivers anglers are using topwater plugs for the Bass and the Blues. We hope to see these conditions continue into the weekend.

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – Nice big Bluefish are swimming the South end this week. They are up to 18 lbs. Stripers (Bass, Striped) are small to medium but there are a few larges kicking around. They are off the Elizabeth islands area.

OFFSHORE – Offshore has turned on a bit. Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] are picking up. Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) and Scup are doing well. Scup has also been increasing and doing really well. Squid is holding. Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) is just beginning to show up. They are small to medium but they should pick up quick.

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) and Scup in Nantucket Sound are phenomenal. Fish Bites are out fishing fresh bait. It has been catching huge sizes of both fish. Off Oregon beach there is a ton of Bluefish. Single hooks are best and Rangers are particularly successful. In Cape Cod Bay the topwater bite has been fantastic. Custom plugs such as Gibbs or other wood plugs are out fishing most products. SP Minnows are hot as well. Anglers are catching huge Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) up to 35 lbs. There are plenty of product Demos happening next weekend June 18-19, just in time for Father’s day.

OFFSHORE – Commercial Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) is now open and the bite has been good. The bite has died down a bit from opener but we expect it to pick up. Lighter tackle such as bigger swim plugs have been the most productive.

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – A lot of small Bass (Bass, Striped) are swimming around 8-15 inches. The bigger fish are beginning to move in. They are up to 20 lbs. No Bluefish have shown up just yet. We should be in for a great season if the Sand Eel run continues as thick as it is now. Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] are between the island and on the wrecks. They love structure. The shoals to Cedar Creek are holding some nice sizes as well as the wrecks on the Cape.

OFFSHORE – The Scup are doing fine and the Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) are beginning to show up nicely. We are seeing Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) on the 30 Fathom curve as well. The sizes are varied.

BAIT REPORT – There is a really nice run of Sand Eels so far this year. The Jumping Minnow Plug is hot this week and you can find it at Coop’s Bait & Tackle!

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – In the canal there are fish moving through and keepers taken. Bob Davis Canal Cruisers are hot long with Hogy Paddle Tail jigs are good as well. In Cape Cod Bay the harbor is loaded with Bass (Bass, Striped) of all sizes. There are some schoolie and keepers in there. Small and white lures such as Bucktails, anything with rubber or Bill Hurley lures are working. SP Minnows are great on an overcast day. In the middle of the bay there is tons of Mackerel (Mackerel, Atlantic) running thick. Sabiki rigs are working well with an A 17 Diamond jig you’ll catch some great sizes from the bottom. Brewster Flats are holding some schoolie sized Stripers, primarily on the night bite but fly fisherman from Barnstable to Eastham are finding success on a moving tide. Orange and Red are fishing well on flies. Spin guys can use Hurleys and soft plastics. Not a lot has come out of the back but there are some reports of Groundfish and Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black). Don’t forget to double check the regulations as they have changed for this year. Easy Clam has been an awesome bait to throw, especially for Sea Bass, Tautog, Scup and Porgy. It looks like it is going to shape up for a promising Fluke season. There have only been a couple reports at this point but we should see them off the islands of Nantucket. A few reports of Bluefish are coming off the Falmouth and Southern beaches have come in. Once the water warms up they should move into the bay.

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – Small keepers are coming mostly from the west end and just around the railroad bridge, but the photo of a supposed 40-inch Striper (Bass, Striped) was much more like a 33-inch linesider according to Bruce at Canal Bait and Tackle. There are plenty of Herring around and the first quality bass of the season should be coming into the scales this week. The Tautog bite in the West end has been very good and they have a good supply of Crabs on hand.

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – Although the season is pretty much shut down in this area there are still a few fish that can be found. Bass, Striped are mixed in with Bluefish and the bite has been fairly decent. The sizes are not gigantic however they are present. Sand Eels and Crabs have been the best bet for bait this week, and similar artificials will work as well. Most of the focus has turned to freshwater fishing at this point in the year.

OFFSHORE – There are still some Tuna, Bluefin and Bonito, Little Tunny swimming the offshore thi week. The sizes are great at this point and although the bite is not as hot this week they are turning up well for anglers who put their time in. There are no reports of Mackerel, Atlantic so far this week but we won’t be surprised to hear of some anglers hooking a few over the holiday weekend. Squid has been the best bait to catch anything in the area.

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – Bluefish and Bass (Bass, Striped) have moved out at this point along with the Sharks. The season is pretty well over as there is not much to fish for in the inshore. Some anglers are switching to Freshwater and some are heading to the offshore where there is still a decent bite so far this week. For anglers heading out this weekend they can always check out our Tips feature which provides additional information and suggestions to help improve the catch.

OFFSHORE – There are still some Tuna, Bluefin to be caught in the offshore. They are up on Stellwagen Bank and out to the East past Chatham. They continue to bite well as the water is still arm. The Tuna are coming up in good sizes although the numbers have dropped. They are chasing Mackerel which are swimming the offshore. This is later than normal as they are spread out towards Chatham up to Rice point as well. They have been chasing the Mackerel that are chasing the Sand Eel run.

BAIT REPORT – Sand Eels are running the bottom of the offshore and the Mackerel are already chasing them.

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – There have been no reports so far from the inshore this week. Most anglers are heading either offshore or to the freshwater kettle ponds for Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Rainbow and Brown Trout. They are hot this week and the target for most anglers.

OFFSHORE – There are still Tuna, Bluefin swimming in the offshore this week. Anglers are making their way out to catch some monsters anywhere from 500 to almost 700 lbs! Boaters have continued to live line Mackerel to hook the big ones. They are becoming increasingly more difficult to find but they are still out there around the Stellwagen area. Bigger sizes will keep showing up as the weather becomes cooler.

BAIT REPORT – Tons of birds hovering above the bait this week.

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – Most of the inshore is pretty much shut down for the year. There are still some Mackerel, Atlantic swimming however this is the only fish reported this week. For anglers that decide to try their luck from the inshore they can always take a look at our Tips feature which provides additional information and suggestions to help improve the catch.

OFFSHORE – The overall number of Tuna being caught this week is down but the Giant Bluefin (Tuna, Bluefin) sizes have been making up for a lack of numbers. It’s absolutely quality over quantity right now. Reports have come in of up to 660 lbs! Anglers have been live lining Mackerel around the bottom of the Stellwagen area for the biggest sizes. The bite is expected to continue over the next few weeks as the water will remain cold and the bigger sizes will move down.

BAIT REPORT – There are still plenty of Mackerel swimming for anglers to use as offshore bait this week. Keep your eyes out for the The Goose Hummock’s huge Black Friday Sales and Mark your calendars February 5 & 6 for The Goose Hummock’s Blue Water Bash! See website for details.

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – There are still a few spots to find Bass, Striped this week before they disappear. Outside the estuaries and into the creeks are holding a few good sizes however most of the bigger Bass are holding up in the canal and are running fairly steady. The Blues (Bluefish) are gone at this point. There are still some croakers swimming as well however are becoming very sporadic. Blackfish (Tautog) is doing well on structures in the nearshore. There have also been some Flounder, Winter but not very many. They have been hiding along the bottom so anglers have to work to get some decent sizes.

OFFSHORE – Tuna, Bluefin are still swimming about 12 miles out off Chatham. They continue to come in fairly thick and in good sizes. Big Mackerel have been reported from the offshore as well and are chasing the thick Sand Eel run that is making its way by. There is no shortage of fish in the offshore this week and when weather condition have been favorable the fishing has been great.

BAIT REPORT – Sand Eels continue to run thick in the offshore this week and are working well as bait. Keep your eyes out for the The Goose Hummock’s huge Black Friday Sales and Mark your calendars February 5 & 6 for The Goose Hummock’s Blue Water Bash! See website for details.

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – Conditions are fairly slow inshore at this time. There are a few schoolie sized Bass (Bass, Striped) left but not many in keeper sizes as they move out. Surprisingly there are still some Squid hanging around. Tog (Tautog) have been biting fairly well in the shallow water on Green Crabs around structure.

OFFSHORE – Tuna, Bluefin has had a spotty bite by the cape. There’s been some decent catches of Cod (Cod, Atlantic) off Chatham. Otherwise there has not been a lot of action in this area due to unfavorable weather conditions deterring most anglers from heading out. If conditions lay down and fishermen decide to head to the deeper water they can always consult our Tips feature which provides additional suggestions and information that could help improve the catch. Alternatively Coop’s Bait & Tackle can provide an up to the minute fishing report if anglers have managed to make their way out.

BAIT REPORT – Sand Eels and Squid are both swimming though are expected to make their way out in the next few weeks.

Nashawena and Naushon Islands

INSHORE – There is a bit of a Tog (Tautog) bite in the shallower water. They have been hitting Green Crab around the structures although have been very sporadic. Bass (Bass, Striped) seem to have moved out for the season so a lot of anglers have not been making their way out this week.

OFFSHORE – Unfavorable conditions deterred many anglers from heading offshore this week. There are currently no offshore trips to report however if conditions lay down and fishermen decide to head to the deeper water they can always consult our Tips feature which provides additional suggestions and information that could help improve the catch. Alternatively Larry’s Tackle Shop can provide an up to the minute fishing report if anglers have managed to make their way out.

Nashawena and Naushon Islands Fishing Report

INSHORE – On the South side of the island there are still some Bass (Bass, Striped) swimming although this is pretty much the only species left. Blues have completely pulled out. Anglers are throwing Needlefish or Eels to hook the Bass, and some are even using bucktails. A lot of anglers are heading for the freshwater at this point.

OFFSHORE – Some good days of Tuna (Tuna, Yellowtail & Tuna, Bluefin) can still be found over the hook and into the bay. This is beginning to slow down as anglers need to run farther to find them and the weather begins to cool down. This bite is still expected for another week or two before it drops some more.

BAIT REPORT – There’s not too much bait running. If you plan on heading out and would like additional suggestions feel free to visit our Tips feature which provides lots of information from fish to how to catch them!
