Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – The wind has made offshore fishing tough, but when anglers can get out they are finding that the bottom bite hasn’t suffered much. Grouper and Snapper are turning up within 12 miles this week. Rocky structure on the bottom will be your best place to target them using live bait. Keep in mind you may need to take a look at the regulations on your Pro Angler App to determine what you can harvest. Cut live bait will bring the most success. The Kings can be found within 20 miles. Anglers are looking for bait balls on the bottom for the best place to cast their live bait setup. If all else fails, anglers can almost always find Permit swimming around so it’s always a good idea to keep silver dollar sized Blue Crabs on board!

OFFSHORE – It’s been a bit tough to get a handle on the fishing throughout the area this week. With all the recent weather the fish are a bit confused and the bite hasn’t been as easy as we would hope. The ol’ reliables are still hanging around. Redfish continue to bite, but are preferring live bait. Port Charlotte has been a particularly active area, especially throughout the harbor. There is a nice variety of fish throughout the harbor area and anglers aren’t having trouble hooking some of them as bycatches. Snook are hit or miss depending on where you are. Most are over slot and a lot of fun to target, finding them has been the challenge this week. Using live bait in the passes has been productive overall. Fishing as natural presentations as possible has been the best strategy this week. They are already starting to improve as we see more consistent weather. It’s been no surprise that Sheepshead are holding up on structure. Mackerel are beginning to make their way in. Permit are schooled up and spread over several areas, and Tarpon are hiding in some of the rivers. These species haven’t been as hot as we would like to see however we have no doubt they will heat up very soon.

INSHORE – The last week has been interesting I have either fished North Biscayne Bay, Government Cut or Holiday Park for Bass. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) fishing has been really good for bigger Trout in the 22 to 25 inch range. The Tarpon are around and they seemed to bite late the one night I was out. The Cut always produces something if you drop a Shrimp to the bottom. Mangrove Snappers, Yellowtails, Hog Snappers, Mutton Snappers, Spanish Hogfish and Groupers (Grouper, Gag & Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Mutton & Hogfish) are the by catch while waiting on Tarpon.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Resident Tarpon are cruising the flats. There has been a few scattered in the 20 Foot Holes throughout the Harbors, as well as PGI Canal and Alligator Creek Reef to name a few of the hot areas Fishin’ Franks provided this week. They are taking a variety of baits from Marco through Venice however the best bite has come out of Port Charlotte.
Along the bushes and oyster bars we are seeing great Redfish and Snook. Moving water is the key to finding them. With the fluctuating temperatures the Reds are preferring live bait such as Pilchards along with a variety of soft plastics. The Snook are becoming a bit lethargic to the North with the drop in temperature however they should heat up well once we see some consistently nice weather.
As usual Sheepshead are holding up on their typical structures taking halved Shrimp on a 4 or 6 hook wit a Split Shot.

OFFSHORE – The offshore has had quite the mixed bag of fish this week. On the bottom, the bite has been successful for those targeting Grouper, Amberjack and Snapper. The Snapper aren’t picky, so don’t worry too much about what you are sending down to them. They seem to be providing a consistent bite no matter what. Grouper are a bit tougher. They are preferring live bait. Amberjack are now closed, but if you are looking for an active catch and release bite then this is your fish.
Closer to the top anglers have spotted Bonito, Blackfin, Spanish and Kings scattered from Marco to Venice. The numbers aren’t outstanding, but they’ll all be a good fish to target if you’re looking for a bit of a challenge.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Despite the rough weather there are plenty of areas to fish this week that are producing well. Juvenile and sub adult Tarpon are moving out of the rivers. Snook are still in the river at Fort Myers but most are small with few legal sizes. Further North, Punta Gorda Isle Canals are loaded with juvenile Tarpon and a good variety of Snook. They were beginning to fire up however the recent cold front may have them a bit more scattered and lethargic until favorable conditions return. This week the hottest Snook and Tarpon have turned up out of the Port Charlotte area. Check out the Pro Angler App report for more details.
Redfish are sporadic up and down the coast. Typical areas are holding fish that are taking Sardines or Shrimp. Trout are also hit or miss but prefer a popping cork combo, scented plastic on a jig or can even be caught on the drift. Occasionally you’ll find Jacks or Ladyfish mixed in. They are heating up just in time for the bait run. Mullet, Whitebait, Threadfins and Pinfish are just beginning to make an appearance.

OFFSHORE – The bite has been tough offshore this week as many anglers have had a difficult time finding a weather window to head out. Prior to the front the Snapper, Amberjack, Kings and Tuna were all beginning to heat up and provide steady action for anglers. This week we are seeing a different picture. Snapper are still around however the closer, nearshore bite is a bit more successful. Heading out to 40 to 60 feet using live bait is your best bet. Some are even finding limits of Lanes towards Venice. Grouper and scattered Amberjack have been mixed in and caught while targeting the Snapper.
Kings are a lot closer this week and can be found less than 18 miles out. Spanish Mackerel may be caught as well. We expect the cold weather to have pushed them out by next week.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Snook season is underway in the gulf fish of all sizes have been cooperating despite an unseasonal weather pattern. There have been a lot of anglers finding success in the Caloosahatchee River near Fort Myers as well as Bull Bay near Boca Grande. You should be able to get by throwing small Shrimp and bait patterns. Our best report for Redfish came from Fishin Franks in Port Charlotte this week. You can find them swimming the 41 bridge to Eagles Cut. Potholes, Sandbars and cutoffs are fishing well. DOA in white or Shad on a weedless hook is working well to fish them as if you are fishing for Bass. Snook are mixed in. Fishin Franks had a lot to say about the fishing around Port Charlotte and Boca Grande this week, you can view their full report in the Pro Angler App. Your typical fish can almost always be found throughout the area. Sheepshead are thick in Marco, Sanibel and Bonito. Pompano are swimming the outside bars with Cobia and Flounder. Seatrout can be caught around mouths of Cutoffs taking Shrimp while Black Drum are holding up on bridges and structure in the harbor.

OFFSHORE – If you wanted to target fish that can’t be found year round, this is the time to fish Southwest Florida! Good sizes of Kingfish have been caught off of Naples and starting into Sanibel. We expect Sanibel and Port Charlotte to fire up as they have not yet done so. Nearshore wrecks and reefs (30-35 FOW) have been producing Cobia, decent sized Cobia at that. Most anglers have been using artificial Eels on a chartreuse jighead. Moving out to deeper water anglers can expect a reasonable Amberjack bite 5-6 miles from shore.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Sheepshead are holding up on docks taking halved Shrimp on split shot rig. Lots of keepers have been caught around Marco. Pompano are steady and varied size, they are taking live Shrimp or Pink Banana jigs. Alternatively orange colors are working particularly well in Marco. They are providing a consistent bite through to Venice.You can also find them in the passes around Sanibel taking Shrimp. Key areas to look have been in roughly 3-4 feet of water on moving tide.
Snook have been caught on Shrimp or larger artificials in Marco. In Gasparilla Sound – Charlotte Harbor, the East and West Wall, PGI and Port Charlotte Canals are also producing.
Trout are on grass flats taking Shrimp under a cork or bounced on bottom. The key is finding clean water. In Port Charlotte they are outside the bars in 3-5 ft on both the East and West wall. Trout have been caught through to Venice.
Scattered Tarpon are in the pass. You can also find them in Bull Bay reaching 120 pounds. Search the deep holes to find them.
Spanish Mackerel have been caught taking jigs in both Sanibel & Port Charlotte. Anywhere you fish in Southwest Florida, you will find a scattered Redfish bite.

OFFSHORE – There has been some Amberjack, Kings and Blackfin Tuna caught offshore this week. King Mackerel have been biting on the troll this week from Marco almost all the way to Venice. A lot of boats have had good luck pulling Bluerunners up to 20 miles out, just keep an eye out for birds and bait. Keeper Grouper have been consistent in 45 to 60 ft of water from Sanibel up to Boca Grande and again to Sarasota on cut Herring. Snapper have put on a decent show. They have been taking a variety of baits this week including Shrimp, cut Herring, Squid, Pilchards or Finger mullet. Range wise, you’ll want to start at 7 miles out 15 miles. If you’d prefer to fish in closer on account of the seas, or you like Sheepshead, well, there’s Sheepshead on a lot of the nearshore wrecks and reefs. They taste great and are usually pretty forgiving in regards to your presentation. Just drop some small Shrimp or Fiddler Crab to the bottom and they shouldn’t have a problem biting.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – It’s definitely a Snook’s time to shine this week. They are waking up inshore from Marco Island to Port Charlotte and they are hungry! With the Whitebait running they are on the move and in search of some live Shrimp on a hook! They seem to be just about anywhere from islands to channels to canals. It has been difficult not to run into them. Trout are also consistent into this week. They are swimming their typical Spring patterns already and are also loving live bait. The sizes have been great so far. Focus on the shallower water for the best bites!
Structure is holding a variety of species to be caught. Mangrove Snapper, Sheepshead and Jack Crevalle are mixed throughout the inshore water. The sizes are nothing great quite yet however we expect them to provide some great action for anglers in the coming weeks.
If all else fails you can always find a few Redfish inshore. This week they are preferring artificial swim baits and MirrOdines. Scattered Black Drum can be found alongside, especially in the Boca Grande and Port Charlotte area. Towards Venice a handful of Pompano and Spanish Mackerel are moving in.

OFFSHORE – Offshore fishing has proved a bit tough for anglers this week. Scattered Tripletail are beginning to show up. Live bait is your best bet to hit them. We expect the bite to heat up in the next few weeks.
The bottom bite is still consistent despite weather conditions. Mangrove Snapper and Greater Amberjack can be found on reefs along with a few Gag Grouper. The Amberjack are the most consistent catch. Everything seems to be nearshore with an extremely quiet offshore bite.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Marco Island and Naples have had a good showing of Pompano in the passes and channels. The grass flats have been producing Trout. Redfish have been caught around the bushes just off of deeper water.
From Naples up to Estero Bay inshore and nearshore structures are producing a decent Sheepshead bite. The Sheepshead haven’t been too picky about time of day as long as you put some bait in front of them. Up into Sanibel the Sheepshead continue to bite well on bridges and pilings. Mangrove Snapper and Sheepshead have also been caught in the passes. If you are looking to target big Snook you can head up the Caloosahatchee River. Try throwing big swimbaits or Mullet.
There is still an abundance of juvenile Tarpon in the region. The best spots are PGI canal and the Caloosahatchee River. Boca Grande Pass, Captiva Pass and surrounding beaches have been good for anyone wishing to catch Whiting or Pompano.

OFFSHORE – The artificial reefs in Southwest Florida have been fishing well for Cobia anglers. The Cobia haven’t been locked down to a specific depth, although you’ll want to start in at least 30 feet of water for some better sizes. From Sanibel to Venice, the most productive artificials seem to be anything eel like by the Hogy Lure company.
Big Gray Snapper, aka Mangrove Snapper, have been hauled off of nearshore reefs from Sanibel up to Boca Grande. Amberjack, Amberjack, Amberjack! Everyone is fired up as these prized bottom fish are being caught throughout Southwest Florida on artificial reefs and wrecks from 40-80 ft of water. The bigger boats have been finding big Ajs past 80 ft although this is mostly to the North of Port Charlotte. There has also been good Red Grouper fishing about 25 miles off of Venice. You’ll also get into some Lane Snappers and catch and release Red Snappers there too.
For anyone wanting to get out and target Permit, boats heading out of Boca Grande have been getting some decent fish in 50 ft of water.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Redfish (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has been excellent this past week. Using live or artificial Shrimp, slow down your presentation because the water temps have dropped. Also large Sheepshead around structure inside the passes and around beaches. Use small pieces of Shrimp, Crab, or Sand Fleas. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are also around and will take the same baits. OFFSHORE – Red Grouper (Grouper, Red) are biting well in deeper water using large dead or live baits. Tripletail fishing is producing large ones, look around the crab trap buoys. Offer them a live Shrimp or small Pilchard and you are in the money. Also look for those large Sheepshead on the nearshore reefs, using small pieces of Shrimp.

INSHORE – Sheepshead fishing has been really good since the water temperatures have dropped. Nice Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) also have been caught lately due to the colder temps. OFFSHORE – Red Grouper (Grouper, Red) action has been good lately over hard bottom. Kings (Mackerel, King) are here in numbers around structure. All sizes have been caught lately from snake kings to smokers. There have also been a good number of Porgy, Trigger (Triggerfish, Gray), and Hogs (Hogfish) caught over good live bottom.

BAIT REPORT – Bait is still thick around coastal structure and passes. If you’re going in the back water and just want to relax but still catch fish, grab some live Shrimp from the bait store.

INSHORE – Most of the fish are still outside. Snook (Snook, Common) are within eyeshot of the beach. This is abnormal for this time of year. Normally we are looking for them on oyster bars and structure holding heat. Redfish are slow but there are plenty of small Jacks (Jack, Crevalle). You can limit out on Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) using black flies. Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish), Bonito (Bonito, Little Tunny) and Kingfish (Mackerel, King) are off the beach. INSHORE – Big Jacks (Jack Crevalle) have returned. There are still Snook (Snook, Common) and Reds (Drum, Red) around inside. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are on the beach. INSHORE – Good sized Redfish (Drum, Red) are around. Snook (Snook, Common) are still biting as the water is still warm. Pilchards or soft plastics are best to hook them. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are biting well in the deeper water. They can be found off the flat edges. Wishing you a Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays from the Pro Angler Team!

OFFSHORE – Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red) are starting to slow down a bit. They are in roughly 40 ft. Whole Pinfish, Squid or Octopus are hooking them. Snapper (Snapper, Gray), Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish), King Mackerel (Mackerel, King) and Tripletail are biting well out there too.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Snook (Snook, Common) are a little on the small side lately but still eating. Speckled sea Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are readily eating and some are running in the 19 inches -26 inche range. The Redfish (Drum, Red) bite is moderate, mostly a mixed bag 18-34 inches. OFFSHORE – This week the bite has been a bit more productive. Kingfish (Mackerel, King) are taking live baits and cut baits. Gag Grouper (Grouper, Gag) are fired up as well. Also the larger Tripletail have showed up in the offshore scene. They can typically be found around Crab Pots and Buoys. Red Grouper (Grouper, Red) and Snapper (Snapper, Gray) are running a little short. You’ll have to put some time in to find them.

BAIT REPORT – Bluerunners are on the reefs on nearshore and offshore wrecks. You can Sabiki them up.

INSHORE – Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are consistent on pink jigs tipped with Shrimp. Reds (Drum, Red) are turning up under popping corks with Shrimp or Pilchards for bait. Sheepshead should pick up soon.

OFFSHORE – It’s been a bit slow offshore however the Kings (Mackerel, King) are being caught. Anglers are fishing with live Bluerunners and trolling spoons for them. You can find them roughly 10-15 miles out however they should be moving in soon.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Redfish (Drum, Red) are chewing again, they’re running 18 inch – 28 inch. Seatrout (Seatrout, Spotted) have fired up, the bigger ones are eating this week, some in the higher 20 inch -25 inch range. The Snook (Snook, Common) are still eating good, live baits or bait fish patterns around mangrove points will work. BOOK YOUR TRIP WITH CAPT. JEREMY TODAY!

OFFSHORE – Fishing offshore is good. Plenty of action bottom fishing several miles for Grunts (Grunt, White), Snapper (Snapper, Gray), and Red Grouper (Grouper, Red). Nearshore the Gag Grouper (Grouper, Gag) are biting on the reefs, ledges, rock piles, and wrecks. The King Mackerel (Mackerel, King) have also showed up, use live bait around artificial structure and reefs.

BAIT REPORT – There are plenty of baits around the passes for those of you with a cast net. The bigger baits offshore aren’t hard to find. Go to your favorite nearshore structure and scan until your machine lights up. Drop a sabiki rig down and start reeling them in.

INSHORE – Look for Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and Bluefish inside passes. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are biting on the grass flats and oyster bars. OFFSHORE – Large schools of Spanish Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) continue to hang around near the beaches, some in the XL size. Trolling or casting flashy spoons will keep the fish striking. Be ready, you may just hook into a King Mackerel (Mackerel, King) while fishing the Spanish. Trolling near shore structures with live baits or plugs may produce King Mackerel and Gags (Grouper, Gag).

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and Bluefish are in the passes taking jigs and spoons. Anything brightly colored or flashy will do. Snook (Snook, Common) are feeding around the docks and mangroves inside the passes, taking lures, live baits, and fly.

OFFSHORE – Spanish Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) are outside the passes, no shortage of these guys. Find the birds and you’ll find the fish. Cast or troll flashy spoons. King Mackerel (Mackerel, King) are scattered throughout the area. Find a nearshore reef and present a live bait where ever you see the most action to find the Kings. Look for the Gag Grouper (Grouper, Gag) and King Mackerel to start biting consistently soon. Snook are making there way into the backcountry for the winter. Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Snook (Snook, Common) and Tarpon are biting inshore. Tarpon are biting off the beach. A big Threadfin on a balloon, live lined or big poppers in the backwater will work. The high to outgoing tide is best time to fish. Snook are hitting off the lights at night. They are taking Greenbacks or live Shrimp. There hasn’t been too much talk about Redfish (Drum, Red). Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) and Ladyfish are chasing Mullet in the early morning and late evening. Kingfish (Mackerel, King) are beginning to move through the nearshore.

OFFSHORE – The Grouper (Grouper, Gag) bite has been great. The better sizes start at 15 miles and run out to 40 miles. Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Lane) has also been productive.

BAIT REPORT – Mullet are schooling off the beach. Early morning and sunset has big Mullet running through.

INSHORE – Anglers are catching Snook (Snook, Common), Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) and Redfish (Drum, Red) with Mullet, live or chunked. Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) are going strong right off the beach. Kings (Mackerel, King) are showing up as well. They are a bit farther off the shore although with the wind there hasn’t been a lot of anglers heading out for them. They are about 2-12 miles out when you can get out. Search for schools of bait. Use a nice big Pilchard on the troll or free lined. You can also troll flashy plugs or silver spoons. OFFSHORE – The Snapper (Snapper, Lane & Snapper, Gray) bite has been decent when angler can get out. INSHORE – Redfish (Drum, Red) are moving in. The bite is good. Big Shrimp under popping corks in 3-5 ft of water is your best bet to hook the fish. The Snook (Snook, Common) bite is decent, not hot. Outgoing tides near the passes using Pilchards is key. A few Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are around. Use small jigs tipped with Shrimp in pink or chartreuse. INSHORE – The water is a bit dirty this week. There are fish around but it has been difficult to see anything. There are some good Snook (Snook, Common) around the passes with some Redfish (Drum, Red) mixed in. Small Tarpon are swimming as well. Chartreuse and root beer have been working well for color. INSHORE – With the recent weather there hasn’t been many anglers hitting the water this week. There have been no reports coming in. We expect to see some Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) once the weather subsides. The bait should get pushed onto the beach and the Snook (Snook, Common) should follow. INSHORE – The fishing has been hit and miss lately. Anglers are heading out for Pompano (Pompano, Florida). The bite has been decent. Snook (Snook, Common) are still hitting right off the beach and you can fish them all day. On the second shelf, 20 yards out, the crank baits are very productive.

INSHORE – Snook (Snook, Common) fishing is good this week. This is the hot bite this week. They are all over the beach and high in the trees. Redfish (Drum, Red) have slowed down but it’s typical of the time of year. Beach fishing with the Tarpon is good if you want to put some time in. Chartreuse, white and Shrimp colors are working best. We have also seen a ton of Ladyfish in the area as well.

INSHORE – The inshore Redfish (Drum, Red) and Snook (Snook, Common) bite has been pretty good along the beach, and the passes are also holding a lot of fish. The Savage Gear Line through Lures are working very well for the Snook. Pilchards and Crabs are working excellently for just about anything that will eat.

OFFSHORE – The Grouper and Snapper (Snapper, Red) bite is excellent. Red Snapper season is open for the next 8 days. Most of the anglers are running anywhere between 80-150 miles offshore to get the Reds. For the Grouper (Grouper, Red), there’s lots of fish starting at 40 ft. and out for anglers using bait

INSHORE – Monday I had some guests of Frank Haase. We had 3 Captains fishing 6 people and everyone got on Snook (Snook, Common) action today. Capt Ray and Capt Derrick also reported catching good Snook. My guys tore it up with some really nice fish. The big one was a 20 lb. fish that gave a great fight. We also landed a real nice Redfish (Drum, Red) at the end of the day. Winds were light and the fishing was great.

OFFSHORE – Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red), Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Lane), Kings (Mackerel, King) and Sharks (Shark, Bull & Shark, Blacktip) are all swimming the offshore this week. Kings are in close, up to 9 miles so anglers do not have to go far out to find them. We expect this bite to continue into the weekend.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Tarpon fishing is picking up this week. They are hitting Finger Mullet, Catfish Tails or big Thread Herring. Snook (Snook, Common) have also been caught on the beach. Redfish (Drum, Red) are hit and miss this week. If you are targeting them and put some time in you will find a few.

OFFSHORE – Grouper (Grouper, Gag) and Snapper (Snapper, Mangrove) continue to do well. Kings are still moving through.

BAIT REPORT – Threadfins are moving through the beach. There is still a good bit of Mullet hanging around the bay system this week. Both are easy to stock up on.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Tarpon and Permit are beginning to move in and the bite is heating up. They are being caught throughout the pass on Blue Crabs. Redfish (Drum, Red) and Snook (Snook, Common) have been caught in the backcountry. Small juvenile Tarpon can be found around this area as well.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have moved in the past few days and the bite has been great on those. Pink jigs tipped with Shrimp have been very productive. Sheepshead and Snapper (Snapper, Gray) have been consistent. They are also holding up on the nearshore wrecks.

OFFSHORE – The Kings (Mackerel, King) have picked up offshore this week. Anglers are heading out with Sabiki rigs and picking up live Threadfins with them. They are throwing them out under balloons to hook the Kings within 2-3 miles off the beach and working out from there. Grouper (Grouper, Red) are farther out at 25 miles. Anchoring over hard bottom and throwing live Pinfish or Herring is very productive.

BAIT REPORT – Threadfin (Herring) are available for bait this week. They are up high and easy to see. There are also some Pinfish running this week.

INSHORE – There is a good Snook, Common bite so far this week and there are some great Tarpon showing up in the backwater. The day bite has been better to hook them. They are preferring live bait such as Pilchards this week. We expect things to heat up for the Spring bite very soon.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite is good in water from 5-6 ft off the point. Live Shrimp under a popping cork is best for them. Sheepshead have been good on docks or oyster bars using Shrimp or small Crabs. Snook, Common is getting started for anglers throwing Threadfins or small Mullet in the passes.

OFFSHORE – Snapper, Gray and Snapper, Lane is the most consistent bite from 10-15 miles offshore in the clear water. Cut Squid and cut Herring as well as live Shrimp are the key to hooking them. Kings (Mackerel, King) have moved in the past few days. Fishing them with a live Blue Runner has been the most productive.

INSHORE – Not much has changed throughout the inshore this week. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are running the bay this week. Outgoing tide has been the best time to hook them. There haven’t been many reports of Reds (Drum, Red) so far this week. Sheepshead have been holding up in the back bay this week. The bite is consistent and the sizes are good.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has been good on soft plastics such as a gulp. The incoming tide is better than the outgoing so far. The same time of day is producing Reds (Drum, Red) that are being caught consistently.

OFFSHORE – Tripletail in great sizes have been caught lately. The Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Vermillion) have been doing well along with the Grouper, Red. Threadfin Herring or cut Squid have been productive for all three fish. Anglers can look for roughly 40 ft of water.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – There are tons of Snapper, Gray in the backwater. Most of them are keeper so far this week. There are some Sheepshead and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) mixed in as well. The Sheepshead are pretty hot however the Trout are spotty. Anglers have been throwing live Shrimp to hook any of these. They have been the main focus for angler as the weather has had the seas too rough for anglers to head offshore.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – The water is muddy however angler are catching Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) on soft plastics worked slow. The Sheepshead and Snapper, Gray are hitting live bait as well on structure. Moving water is the best place to fish and if you can find clean water that is even better. When the wind is down the Snapper, Gray bite has been great.

OFFSHORE – About 30 miles out we are seeing some Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater). The ledges and wrecks at 40 ft are holding some great Snapper, Gray and Snapper, Lane in this area. The bite has been consistent and the size is good. Cut bait and live Shrimp have been the best method to hook them. We expect to see this continue into the weekend.

INSHORE – The Snapper, Gray and Sheepshead are doing well on Shrimp so far this week. They were surprisingly over a sandy bottom this week in the backwater. There are more Mangrove Snapper in the nearshore as well on the rocky bottom. Weather has kept most anglers in from the offshore this week so this has been the main focus so far.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – There has been some terrible weather in this area as of late, so bad that is has been destroying docks and structures in the area. The pier fishing has produced some Seatrout, Spotted and a few Mackerel, Spanish when the weather is nice. The bite has been spotty as the water has been muddy. The best lures have been silver spoons and Shrimp tipped jigs. Otherwise, until things clear up in this area there will not be a whole lot of anglers hitting the water this week.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Things have been slow in this area as of late. There are some reports of Reds (Drum, Red) that can be found in the rivers and channels in the deeper pockets. The water is cold so they will be schooled up in there. Natural colors such as white in the morning as well as browns and tans are working the best for artificials. The incoming tide is getting them to feed a bit better which pushes everything around and improves the bite.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) are still swimming the inshore this week. They are eating live Shrimp under a popping cork so far. The sizes are good and the bite is consistent. Sheepshead are turning on now that the weather has cooled down. They are holding up on the oyster bars. Anglers are throwing half a Shrimp on a small circle hook. The Pompano, Florida should start moving in with the cool weather as well. Shrimp tip jigs will be the best bet to catch them.

OFFSHORE – Grouper, Red, are doing well now that it is open again. The Snapper, Lane, bite is also pretty consistent so far this week. Both fish are preferring chunks of Herring and turning up in good sizes on this.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is a lot of wind in the area lately. Anglers are still managing to catch a few Snook, Common, Reds (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) off the beaches. Pink/white have been the best colors to use for Trout. Anything that looks similar to a Mullet to match the run should also be fairly productive. The wind has the water mixed up pretty well so the fish are not easy to locate but once you can find a school you should be able to hook some good sizes.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Snook, Common bite has been unreal along with the Reds (Drum, Red). They are going after live Shrimp or gulp Shrimp. Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) are turning up on the beach while Sheepshead and Mangos (Snapper, Gray) are in the nearshore. Tarpon have even shown up in the same areas and they are loving the Pilchard run. They are also hitting cut Shrimp. Mackerel, King are hitting right off the beach this week. You can find them under the birds around structures and ledges.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) are hitting live Cigar Minnows and live Bull Minnows. Soft plastic gulps are working as well. No particular color is working better however mullet imitations are best. Big Bull Reds (Drum, Red) are schooling up in the bay. Anglers are trolling stretch 25s in no particular color. 25 ft water is the best spots to find the big Reds. There are no signs of Sheepshead yet this week.

OFFSHORE – It’s pretty slow offshore due to some Red Tide and unfavorable weather. Most anglers are awaiting the open of Triggerfish and focusing on the inshore this week.

BAIT REPORT – There is still a spotty Minnow run this week. Anglers who are determined and put some time in should be able to find a decent catch on a Sabiki rig.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is a decent bite inshore this week. Reds (Drum, Red) are still showing up as usual. There are also still reports of good Snook, Common as the water has not dropped enough that they are going to move out. Anglers have also been jigging holes for Seatrout, Spotted. We have been seeing a limited Pompano, Florida bite mixed in with some Mackerel, Spanish as well. They are both swimming along the beach in the troughs. Sand fleas and tube jigs are working well for Pompano while the Spanish are loving spoons and live Shrimp. They are not super picky though.

OFFSHORE – Kings (Mackerel, King) are still biting on the offshore wrecks and ledges this week. Anglers have been flatlining Pinfish and Pilchards to catch them. They are still decent sizes and expected to hang around until the weather cools down.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Since the water is still warm there continues to be a decent Mackerel, Spanish bite. They are slowly beginning to move out to nearshore as the weather cools but has not been enough to move them out. Pompano, Florida have been showing up in a few spots this week along with a few Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). Bucktail jigs are a great artificial to throw this week. There have been no signs of Reds (Drum, Red) as of yet.

OFFSHORE – There is still some action in the offshore this week despite the closing of Gags (Grouper, Gag). Some anglers are still heading out past the Federal water to get them but since the weather was so windy not a lot were taking the chance. Some offshore fishermen are focusing on Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Lane) however they do have to head outside of state water for that as well. Pilchards are the best bet for bait this week. The King (Mackerel, King) bite is still on and doing well. The sizes have been decent and now that the weather has cleared up they aren’t as spotty.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has been the headliner this week. Anglers are extremely excited because they have been getting bigger and bigger. There is now a nice mix of 16-17 inch fish swimming in the area. Water temperatures are still up at the moment but with the mid-week front moving it they will perk up and sizes will increase just in time for the weekend. The best bait is Live Shrimp under a popping cork. Artificials like DOAs in glow white color have done equally as well under a popping cork too. The bigger Trout are being caught near Sanibel and Pine Island on the flats just North of Chino Island. In this area, great big sizes are the norm. The bite is expected to continue into the weekend. There have also been some unusual reports of Shark bites around the lighthouse at night. Two gentlemen also reported catching a Shark, Tiger and Shark, H.H. -Smooth that, from pictures, looked to be roughly 7 ft. long.



BAIT REPORT – Along the beaches there have been some great opportunities for live bait such as Shrimp and Pilchards. They have been swimming right along Lovers Key and the middle bridge to Sanibel. Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Nice Cobia bite before the cold front on the near shore wrecks , with some real bruisers mixed in with plenty of legal size fish. Most structure has plenty of Jacks (Jack, Crevalle), Bluefish , Grunts (Grunt, White) and Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) to keep everyone busy. Tripletail are everywhere you look , from outside of Chokoloskee Pass south to Lostmans River on the crab trap markers. Most of these fish are undersize but a few keepers mixed in. Catch them with shrimp and small Pilchards. Lots of fun to catch and it can only improve your casting skills. Lots of small Snook (Snook, Common), Reds (Drum, Red), and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) around the oyster bars. Tarpon are still chasing Mullet on the outgoing tide in the passes. Jacks and Ladyfish have also been biting well.

OFFSHORE – Amberjacks (Jack, Amberjack Greater) are plentiful on the offshore wrecks along with plenty of Snapper (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail) if you can get them thru the Goliath Groupers. Have plenty of live bait for the Ajs , big Pinfish , Pilchards or Threadfins work best. Chum heavy for the snapper and have plenty of cut bait ready. Looks like a windy week after the cold front came thru on Sunday so will be looking forward to when the winds calm down.

Naples Fishing Report

INSHORE – Despite the forceful winds this week there are still plenty of ways to get on the water. Sticking to the bridges and back bay, the afternoon high tide has provided some shelter. The wind has been pushing baitfish into the Mangrove (Snapper, Mangrove) and they have been on fire. The last part of the incoming tide as well the changeover is the most effective with the biggest live Shrimp anglers can find. DOA’s are a great alternative though nothing has compared to live this week. Our source suggests chumming the water with what you are using. Be ready to sacrifice some of your bait to prep your area for the big catch. The flats are also holding some good sized Seatrout, Spotted that are going after live bait as well. The passes are fairly windy however the docks are loaded with Reds (Drum, Red), Snook, Common and more Mangroves. More large sized Mangrove and Sheepshead are beginning to move in so the bite is expected to pick up in the next few weeks.

OFFSHORE – There have not been a lot of boaters heading out to the deep water this week, despite the nice weather. There are still lots of reports of Mackerel, King running. The Snapper, Gray bite has continued to do well hitting live Pilchards and Shrimp. There have also been some Porgy (Porgy, Jolthead & Porgy Knobbed) roughly 15-20 miles out. The water has cleared up at this point and the fish are hungry.

INSHORE – There have been no reports of inshore fishing this week however since the weather has been great and conditions have improved anglers can expect a continued Snook, Common chasing Shrimp and Pilchards. Sheepshead were coming up as well chasing smaller sized Shrimp as well as Pilchards. Our sources anticipate this bite to continue until the weather cools in the next few weeks.

Naples / Marco Island Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The deep waters are safe from anglers lately as conditions have been way too rough to get out on the water. No one has been taking on the conditions this week as 6 footers have deterred all boaters. Prior to this weather we have seen Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish), Snapper (Snapper, Lane), Kingfish (Mackerel, King) and Bonita (Bonito, Little Tunny). There have been no reports at this time so we are anxiously awaiting improved weather. Conditions are expected to yield similar results after the storm passes.

INSHORE – With the rain and wind there have been reports of extremely scattered Redfish (Drum, Red). Alternatively Snook (Snook, Common) are hitting hard right now so you will more than likely reel in one of these. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are mostly in the backwaters right now and are quite spotty. When the wind dies down the bait are expected to settle and move back out bringing all the fish with it.

Naples / Marco Island Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Ugly wind conditions have made for some challenging fishing offshore. There are no reports at this time however we expect temperatures to warm up as wind calms down this coming weekend. Should you decide to brave the weather take a look at our Tips section by tapping the species of your choice for more suggestions and ‘how to’s. We hope to see an increase of angling reports after conditions improve.

INSHORE – Redfish are on fire. Reds are biting all over the place if you can get out this week. Jigs are killing it inshore however if you are into the flies you may have trouble due to the strong wind conditions. Don’t let that stop you though. Using Whites in the lighter water will give you a better shot at a bite if the weather calms down. Darks in the dark water will provide you with a more pronounced silhouette in turn increasing your chances for a bite as well. You do not necessarily need to be changing sizes but colors are important. We are also seeing small Snook and lots of Mackerel schooled up chasing baits. They are spotty so it is a little difficult to find them, but when you do you won’t find your hook empty. In the next few days temperatures are expected to increase a bit as the wind calms down so keep an eye out for that perfect opportunity to get out there.

BAIT REPORT – There are baits everywhere. Make sure you stock up for when the wind lays down because along the beaches you will have no trouble finding Mullet running.

INSHORE – The Redfish are in right now as well as some Snook. The Redfish and Snook can be found off the point or in any kind of moving water. Black and Brown tantrums have been working best for fly anglers. For standard tackle, any artificial in that color of bait fish size should work as well.

Marco Island / Naples Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Gag Grouper, various Snappers, and Red Grouper are being found on hard bottom and ledges. You’ll want to head out about 13 miles with some cut Squid or cut Herring. 2-4 oz weight is all you’ll need to drop down to them. If you find you’re not quite able to stay in touch with your bait due to current, try adding a little more weight.

INSHORE – Redfish are still fairly steady to bite right now. The colder water has pushed them back a bit, but they are willing to bite on Shrimp. There’s good number of Snook along the beaches, piers, points, and pilings. There’s lots of Pilchards found on the points and along the beach so when fishing for Snook you’ll want use Pilchards. The Tarpon have, for the most part, moved on out of the area as part of their migration. The tropical storm didn’t do too much harm here. The rain has helped to cool the water a little bit.

Marco Island / Naples Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The bottom fishing right now has mixed Grouper bites. The Red Grouper is biting strong, but the Gags are few and far between. You don’t have to go far out to hit the Grouper, the wrecks and reefs hold them just fine and they can be caught in 25-60 foot of water. You could probably troll for Dolphin 40-60 miles out, but that particular boat ride is so far that we haven’t heard much of anything. If you decide to take advantage of a fair weather day, bring Ballyhoo and keep an eye out for weedlines.

INSHORE – The Snook are biting off of the beach, and if you are looking for something delicious to sink your teeth in, the Pompano are around. You can catch them off of the beach as well, but they are also out at Hurricane Pass. Your go to bait is going to be Sand Fleas or Shrimp, drop it down to the bottom and give it a bounce – remember, fish see movement.

BAIT REPORT – There is Threadfins around and Pilchards off of the beach. There is a Ladyfish run right now and they make a great cut bait, especially if you plan to start inshore and work your way further out to bottom fish for the Grouper.

OFFSHORE – Our friends over at Rose Marina have not heard much about what is biting offshore in the last few days.

INSHORE – A few Snook and Redfish were caught fly fishing recently. There is also a good Snapper bite and the occasional Tarpon being caught. The best time for you to be fishing is when the tide is moving. For bait you want to take Shrimp or cut mullet which is around.

Marco Island / Naples Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – This past weekend was absolutely terrible, and the seas have been 2-4 feet. The people that did go offshore said that the bite was ok, the hard part is trying to survive the west wind. The Grouper bite, was ok, mostly Red Grouper. If you want to reliably fill your cooler you are going to need to go 20-30 miles out but that might not be possible with the weather. Anything inside of 20 miles is going to be picked clean. 5-10 you are going to find some fish, but they aren’t going to be keepers. You really have to pick through them. If you want to be successful and the weather is going to hold, spend the gas and go further out deep dropping pinfish and spot tails.

INSHORE – The Redfish bite inshore is great on Shrimp. There are lots of Snook around but they are closed. The Pompano are not doing so well because the rain has made the water murky. If you are going with an artificial, some scent or color is going to vastly improve your clarity in low-visibility area. This the time to rock new penny and chartreuse lures; if they imitate a Shrimp all the better.

BAIT REPORT – There is tons of bait off the beach early in the morning, and you should have no problem catching it with a cast net.

Marco Island / Naples Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The fishing is always good here, it’s all about deciding what kind of fishing you are going to do before you head out. If you plan on going for the Kingfish then you want to bring along Threadfin Herring and Squid. There is also a great Grouper and Snapper bite.

INSHORE – There have been reports of big Mangrove Snapper and Kings inshore too. There are also lots of Pompano around which flock to live shrimp. Fish around the mangroves in the back canals. Just keep in mind that the backwater has a flat, muddy bottom, and if we get rain the clarity drops back there. If you get up on the flats, however, you should generally be able to sight fish from the boat for Tarpon or Redfish.

BAIT REPORT – Bait is around, but you will need a really fine cast net. Most of the bait fish is small, and the water is turgid because of the rain. Try a 6 foot, quarter inch, cast net.

Marco Island / Naples Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Our friends over at Captain Pete’s Bait & Tackle let us know that the bottom fishing is good right now. Not many people troll in this area, but that is ok because the bottom fishing for Grouper and Snapper is good. Ideally, you want to bottom fish with something that will stick to the hook, squid is an ideal bait. Failing that, go with cut bait because it is sure to draw attention.

INSHORE – The trick to a successful day on the inshore is to get out early. You want to be packing up once it gets too hot for the fish. The Tarpon are sorta around – not in great numbers any more, but the usual resident Tarpon are still here. The Redfish and Snook are around and if you are targeting them then Shrimp is the best bait, or if you can buy Spanish Sardines do that.

BAIT REPORT – I recommended using Spanish Sardines inshore because that is for sure what the Redfish and Snook are feeding on right now, major problem is that they are too small for us to catch and use. If you can buy some bigger ones though, I am sure you could clean up.

Marco Island / Naples Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Josh over at Captain Pete’s Bait & Tackle has been busy ever since Gag Grouper opened up on July 1st. A lot of guys are out chasing those right now but so far it has been a pretty mixed bag. They are picking up a few Gag Grouper trolling but most of them are bottom dropping with live Pinfish. The Red Grouper bite is still good and it has been moving in closer; you also want to be using live Pinfish for these guys but frozen Octopus is a close second. Snapper bite is consistent on live Shrimp as well. Permit and Cobia are around and for them the best bait is live Blue Crab.

INSHORE – Inshore trolling for Spanish Mackerel with silver spoons has been great. The Spanish are also on top of the silver spoons. The summertime Snook is also strong right now right off the beach. There are medium size fish on live Greenbacks or little MirrOlures.

BAIT REPORT – Bait has been spotty, and the only time to consistently catch it is early in the morning. There are Greenbacks and Pilchards out there. The offshore grass flats hold a good number of Pinfish as well. The best way to catch them is with a #8 Sabiki rig.

Marco Island / Naples Fishing Report

OFFSHORE: Its pretty shallow  here so you’re going to have to go out pretty far if you want to go offshore. You’ll want to go out 150 miles if you want to look for Dolphin or Wahoo. But for most of us thats a little excessive so we’ll stick to inshore.

INSHORE: Inshore there are lots of Snapper and Grouper. There are also some Snook around the Island and Tarpon around. They are doing well on cut bait right now. Try catching a Catfish and cutting the head off and using that. If you can’t get that you can always use Mullet and you’ll find that around. 

BAIT: There are lots of small bat around which you can grab with a cast net. As mentioned about catfish can also make great cutbait and they are around.

OFFSHORE – This time of year the best bite is on keeper Grouper that are 20 inches or better. There is also a good bite on Mangrove Snapper and some Sharks.The Snapper bite is good on Shrimp and Squid. The Spanish Mackerel and Jacks come and go. There is a good Permit bite out on the wrecks. Cut Threadfin Herring is doing well out there. The Grouper are also biting well on frozen Octopus. A lot of what you by-catch while fishing for snapper is good if you chunk it up and send it down fresh.

INSHORE – There are a few Cobia around the docks. The Snook bite is also very good if you can get Pilchards, Greenbacks or Whitebait. If you sabiki up your own you’ll do well on Snook. There have been Pompano here and there but it changes everyday. You’ll find Jacks and Ladyfish on the bait.

BAIT REPORT – You’ll find a lot of bait around the Pier on 33rd Street as well as at the old dock pilings. Also check in the passes like Doctors Pass, Clam Pass and Wiggins Pass.

Captain Pete’s Bait & Tackle is open 7 days a week 6:30am – 6pm. They have live shrimp everyday. Other live baits come and go but be sure to stop by and see what they have. And they always have plenty of frozen bait.

Fishing has been productive in the early morning. Sheepshead are hanging near the oyster bars. Redfish are uptight against the mangroves.
Snook are hitting in the passes and points – look for moving water.
Nice size mangrove snapper showing up around oyster bars.

Naples Fishing Report

If you’ve been thinking of booking a trip but haven’t, now is an excellent time. Call me and book now for this summer before it’s over and here’s why.

In general it’s one of the best times of the year to fish, May, June and through the summer. At certain tides and times of day the water is gin clear. The water around the sandy flats and shoals surrounding the coast becomes a beautiful aqua marine turquoise blue color depending on the conditions. All sorts of aquatic life becomes visible beneath the clear water window. Huge Starfish, baitfish, all sorts of rays including the magnificent Spotted Eagle Ray, and loads of coastal fish species including Tarpon, Snook, Jacks, Pompano and others.

It’s been a really good week for Tarpon. We’ve been leaving the dock at first light and getting to our spots before sunrise. Definitely my favorite hour of the day. Sometimes this time of year the Tarpon bite is early in the morning. We’ve been fishing to the schools that are running along the beaches heading north on the their annual spring migration.

Snook fishing has also been a ball especially along the beaches. At higher tides and when the sun is up so we have better visibility we’re able to sight fish. Another one of my favorite ways to fish. The Snook will hug the edge of the water next to the sand. We throw our baits or flies in front of them, wait for them to approach then hook up! It’s actually not as easy as it sounds and we don’t always hook up but we do have good success and it’s a great challenge.

I also have some good backcountry Shark and Tarpon spots then can be productive depending on the tide.

Marco Islands Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The Red Snapper bite is finishing off the season hot. You’ll want to go way out to take advantage of the end of this short season! Patrick from Mangove Outfitters Fly Shop recommends using Squid or Herring cutbait for this fish. The Red Grouper and Snapper are also biting well offshore, though you won’t have to go quite as far out for them.

INSHORE – The flats and inlets have been good. Here you’ll be looking for Snook, Redfish and Trout. You should also check out the area near the beaches; especially during an incoming tide.

BAIT REPORT – In shore you’ll find Greenies, and Fly Mullet. Around the Cuban Boat and on the rock piles you’ll find some bait as well. If you’re heading offshore bring a sabiki and sabiki some bait up on your way out in about 50-60 feet of water.
