Marion Fishing Report
INSHORE – Saltwater angling has all but wrapped up in Massachusetts. There will still be some small holdover Bass (Bass, Striped) in canals and rivers. Some areas on the west of Cape Cod Bay will see decent amount of Herring throughout the winter. Early winter still provides some Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) opportunities for recreational angling. The state has some really good freshwater fishing in the ponds and lakes. Stay tuned for new in-app Freshwater hot spots to get you through the offseason till everything fires back up in the spring. Have a great winter and stay safe.

INSHORE – There isn’t really a lot going on this week as things slow down for the season. Anglers are switching to freshwater quite a bit. The Canal is still holding Mackerel (Mackerel, Atlantic) on the East end. There may still be a few schoolie Stripers (Bass, Striped) mixed in. Tautog have likely moved to deeper water. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!
OFFSHORE – Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) are still being caught at the regular haunts. It has been difficult to find sizes that are recreationally legal. Spreader bars and strategic anglers are working well once you do find smaller fish. There has been recreational sized fish biting near the Wood End area. INSHORE – There are still some schoolie Stripers (Bass, Striped) hanging around into this week. Anglers are searching the East end of the canal and the rivers to find them using Mackerel and fine bait. We hope the cold front won’t push them out quite yet. To the West we are seeing a decent Tautog bite. There are some keepers in the deeper water if you put some time in fishing the rock piles. Search roughly 40 ft in Buzzard’s bay to find them. The morning bite for both Stripers and Tautog is better than the afternoon but if they are there, they will generally bite all day. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!
OFFSHORE – Anglers are still heading out for Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) this week. They have to brave the weather to find them but when there is a break in the weather the bite is decent. To the North, Spreader Bars and Strategic Anglers are productive in the early morning around the bank. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

INSHORE – There’s still some fishing to be caught for anyone putting their time in. A few of the anglers we’ve talked to have come up with some Flounder (Flounder, Winter) by Scusset. Work the pilings in the east end of the canal. For anyone after Blues, there are some small Bluefish in Onset Harbor. Anglers are still catching some schoolie Stripers (Bass, Striped) as a good push of fish are pushing through the ditch and up into western Buzzard’s Bay. A lot of anglers around the state are having luck on smaller soft plastics. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

INSHORE – Anglers are still catching Tautog from shore and the canal. The Buzzard’s Bay, Bird Island and the typical areas are doing well in the early morning. Not a lot of anglers are targeting Bass (Bass, Striped) from boats. There are still tons of schoolies with the occasional big fish in the canal. They are around 17 lbs. There are plenty of fish to catch if you’re just looking for numbers. Freshwater is on fire as the ponds are double stocked with big Rainbows and Brown Trout. The fish are getting pretty active. OFFSHORE – There are reports of Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) still coming in this week. The areas are scattered all over the bay for the most part. The bite has slowed down so you will have to put some time in.

INSHORE – The Canal is phenomenal this week. There are a lot of schoolie Stripers (Bass, Striped) with plenty of bigger fish biting from first light to just after dusk. They are from East end to the Middle of the canal from Pole 10 to Pole 90. They are taking topwaters, swimmers and plastics. Shiny Metal is working as well. OFFSHORE – The weather has been a bit too unfavorable for anglers to head out this week. If you are determined to get out and catch some fish there are Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) biting around the middle of Cape Cod bay. Anglers are jigging up Mackerel to live line it. The day bite is best. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!
BAIT REPORT – There are plenty of Shrimp and Silversides this week. Mackerel are on the East end but have not moved in with big numbers yet. Anglers will jig them up when they move in. There was recently Squid being pushed up on the rocks.

INSHORE – In the past few days the Canal has been on the slower side. There were tons of schoolie Stripers (Bass, Striped) as well as better fish mixed in. The morning bite has been producing well in terms of great numbers and sizes up to 26 lbs. You have to put some time in to wean through the smaller fish. Tautog are still really good in Buzzard’s Bay and Wing’s Neck area. There is a solid, active bite. Some anglers are focusing on Freshwater into this week. There is a nice variety of fish turning up and the ponds are well stocked. The Saltwater bite should pick up and we expect to see another push of fish before the season is over. INSHORE – Over the past week the bite has been on the slower side. Bass (Bass, Striped) and Bluefish are turning up despite this. There are some breaking fish around the East end. The Tautog bite is fantastic this week all around Buzzard’s bay. They are up to 6 lb right from shore. Anglers are using Green Crabs to hook them. There is no magic way to rig the crabs. Upside down, sideways, they all work. Local freshwater ponds have recently been stocked with Trout so it is a great alternative if you are looking to mix it up with some freshwater. Marion Fishing Report
INSHORE – The canal has been quite good over the last few weeks. It looks to be continuing this week. Breaking tides have been frequent and the fishing is good, especially in the morning. The Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) are on the fall migration. There were nice 30-39lb fish last week. There hasn’t been any show up that big as of yet this week. There are still Albies (Bonito, Little Tunny) that arrived even though they were late this year. They are coming into the canal off and on but remain better out in Buzzards bay. Sea Bass and Fluke are closed now but Scup fishing is still open. Anglers are just starting to see Tautog in Buzzard’s Bay. The water temperatures are pretty mild however the water is cooling off so anglers are stocking up on Green Crabs for Tautog in the deep waters. Search around rock piles to find them. Stripers are being caught on jigs in deep water during the day. Chunk Pogies or Mackerel to get them. Overnight is producing fish on live Eels. Mornings are best using Topwaters or jigs. During the day in faster currents anglers are jigging deep running plastic Eels. Bucktails are also productive. Search deep during the day. Check out the Redtop Sporting Goods Website or Facebook for great specials happening this weekend!
OFFSHORE – Stellwagen seems to be hit or miss for Bluefin (Tuna, Bluefin) for some of the anglers we talked to. There are some good sized fish coming out of the area however it slows down for days at a time. There hasn’t been a whole lot of fish over 300 lbs. They are a bit smaller lately and with the recent wind we haven’t seen anyone go towards the Canyons. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

INSHORE – The Scup fishing is still in full swing this week. Bluefish are doing well but thinning out a bit. They are in and around the canal up to 14 lbs. Stripers (Bass, Striped) have been very good. Some are over 50 bs. You can see them breaking and feeding at sunrise. They are definitely part of the migration running the West and East end of the canal. They seem to be everywhere. The length of the daylight has triggered the migration so they are moving. The Stripers are still biting to the North as well. Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] are also still biting this week. Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) are closed. Anglers are just beginning to look for Tautog using Green Crabs in the deeper areas of Buzzards Bay. We see some nice weather ahead for the week so far and the fishing should continue to do well. Redtop Sporting Goods will be at Striperfest this weekend in Falmouth! They will be in the Pure Fishing Tent so stop by and say hello! You can also pick up NEW Sebile lures! Patrick Sebile will be at the event as well for seminars and cast lessons. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

INSHORE – Tautog is finally open and we have been catching some nice fish! Stripers (Bass, Striped) continue to bite and we expect to see some decent fish for the next couple of weeks. Live Eels are the best bet to hook them this week. Pogies and Mackerel are also productive along with wire jigging, tube and worm as well as vertical jigs. Some fish are still being caught on topwater. The Shark fishing continues to do well into this week. Anglers are also getting their fill of Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] in as it closes next week. They are being taken on big Bucktail Fluke rigs across rips tipped with Squid or Clams. Bonito, False Albacore and Bluefish are turnin gup around the island. We are seeing a great bite for anglers trolling Yo-Zuri Deep Divers or pitting small Hogy lures with a metal Hogy head or metal Mac Daddy Lures.
OFFSHORE – There has been a hot Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) bite around the bank this week. Spreader bars, Daisy Chains and live Pogies or Mackerel have been working well to hook them. Hogy, or Ron-Z Plastic Baits are productive if they are up top or on a vertical jig. We are also seeingy Cod (Cod, Atlantic), Pollock and Haddock heating back up as well.

INSHORE – The fishing has been a bit slow in the area as of late. The Stripers (Bass, Striped) have drastically slow down. Bluefish are in the canal. Flounder [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] are picking up around the usual areas on the flats. Squid on Fluke rigs has been great. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!
OFFSHORE – There are reports that Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin & Tuna, Bigeye & Tuna, Bluefin) are moving in. While we haven’t heard specifics, there are reports coming from Hyannis anglers. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!
BAIT REPORT – There are tons of Pogies (Menhaden) in Cape Cod bay this week. They are very easy to catch so far. Maco’s Bait & Tackle has new inventory for you to check out this wee

INSHORE – Things are slow the last couple days. Stripers (Bass, Striped) are scattered in the canal. The Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] bite is picking up very well on the flats however. Clams and Squid are the best bait for them. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!
OFFSHORE – There have been no signs of Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin & Tuna, Yellowfin) from the offshore as of yet out of here. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!
BAIT REPORT – Bait is small this week. We have found peanut Bunker (Menhaden) and Herring.

INSHORE – Cape Cod Canal is loaded with 20-35 lb Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) that have been excellent at night. They started off jigging but moved to topwater. Some fish are even in the high 40 lbs. There are still plenty of Sea Bass in the bay. Fluke are marginal. If you hit a good hole they are okay however if you head to the islands you may have to put some time in. The best quality fish are in 40-60 ft using Jelly B2 Squids with Squid on it.
OFFSHORE – The Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) are biting but it’s slow. We hope to see more as the season heats up. The Shark (Shark, Blue) have been a good target for anglers. The numbers are great.
BAIT REPORT – Lots of Mackerel are swimming however the Squid are limited. Sea Herring and juvenile Pogie (Menhaden) have been found as well. Blue Crabbing has been hot this week. M & D Bait & Tackle has all you Crabbing gear needs!

INSHORE – There were reports of some decent Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] fishing on the Mashnee Flats where the small blues were also raising hell with the fine bait that is attracting fish to that location. The word from Paul at Maco’s Bait and Tackle was that there had been an influx of 16-inch-and-better Fluke on the flats which at one time was a fluke hot area. Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) catches were in decline in close but along the west Falmouth shore and out around Cleveland’s Ledge there were still some knuckleheads being taken. He also heard of the mid 40-pound Bass (Bass, Striped) taken up around Plymouth on a live Mackerel.

INSHORE – A lot of Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) have turned up this week. Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] are turning up on a consistent basis. Scup are everywhere. Bass (Bass, Striped) are a bit hit or miss. In Cape Cod Bay the bite is still very good on live Mackerel. Most anglers are in 20 ft or so out by Cleveland ledge. Chunked Squid on a bucktail jig has been the most productive.

INSHORE – The fishing in the bays is hot this week. Stripers (Bass, Striped) are in both Buzzards and Cape Cod bay. If you find the Mackerel (Mackerel, Atlantic) you’ll find the fish. Most of the best fish are found from the boats. There are some in the canal but you’ll have to put some time in. Live lining Mackerel has been the best bet to hook them. Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] have also just begun to heat up and we expect to see sizes and numbers increase in the next few weeks.

INSHORE – There is a ton of fish around this week. Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) are everywhere. They can be caught just about any time of day. Scup and Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) have also been caught fairly easy this week. We expect this bite to continue into next week as the weather is expected to be cooperative.
BAIT REPORT – Mackerel, Sand Eels and Herring are all running this week.

INSHORE – A lot of Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) are in the canal that are hitting about a half hour before the tide change to about 10 minutes after. They are from about 22-35 lbs. We also still have a strong Tautog bite on Green Crab. Rocky areas such as the train bridges and the canal are holding great sizes. Scup is also biting this week. Bluefish are starting on the South Cape Beaches. Anglers from shore are doing really well while the shore fishermen are having to put a bit more time in. We hope to see things heat up offshore soon as well.

INSHORE – There is a lot of action this week. The Stripers (Bass, Striped) are moving up quick and a lot of great sizes are coming out of the canal in the morning. You’ll have to put some time in to find them but they are weighing in up to 37 lbs. Pencil Poppers are working particularily well for them. Tautog are in the water biting well. Anglers are using crabs. They are fairly close to shore at this point. Scup are beginning to hit this week. Everything is turning on.
BAIT REPORT – There is a lot of big bait in the canal this week. Herring and Mackerel have some good size to them. Redtop Sporting Goods Inc is remodelling! They are open and be sure to keep an eye out for the new changes to come!

INSHORE – The Tautog bite has been very good with some large tog coming from west-end rock piles and out around Cleveland Ledge. Paul at Maco’s Bait and Tackle said there were loads of Bass (Bass, Striped) breaking and birds working in the west Onset channel on Saturday morning and no one around to catch them. The shop has every type of bait you could want and a new and more diverse selection of tackle in their new showroom.

INSHORE – Montauk Fall Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass! Captain Dave reports that despite the rough conditions, with most of our anglers toughing it out, we had great Porgy fishing with quality JUMBO Scup! The Sea Bass, Black were a bit slower today and everyone had at least one Cod, Atlantic. Most of the focus has been on freshwater fishing and will provide most of the catches until things open back up in the Spring.

INSHORE – Blackfish (Tautog) are still swimming this week and there’s some mackerel overtop. They are hitting Green Crabs so far and producing very well in the canals. There are also some Pollock swimming on the East end by the jetties. They are hitting silver jigs and doing well also. There is not a whole lot going on at this time of year and this is very typical for the area. Anglers heading out this weekend can always check out our Tips feature which provides additional information and suggestions to help improve the catch.
BAIT REPORT – Mackerel can be found inshore and offshore still this week and are working well for offshore Tuna.

INSHORE – Most inshore anglers have switched to the freshwater ponds at this point. The Ponds are producing Largemouth Bass and some Rainbow and Brown Trout. There is still smaller sized Mackerel swimming the East end of the the saltwater areas however they are quite small. Anglers taking whitebait with them should have an increased chance of reeling one in.
OFFSHORE – There are still some great sizes of Tuna, Bluefin swimming the Southwest corner this week. They are coming up in great sizes however are not easy to find at this point. They are hitting Mackerel which can still be found in the inshore. Live Lining has been the best technique so far. The sizes will get bigger with the cold weather however they are expected to complete their move out of the area in the next few weeks.

INSHORE – Typical you can catch Pollock in the canal this time of year but not a lot of people have been fishing. Most anyone on the water still is focused on Tuna as the big fish have shown up.
OFFSHORE – Tuna, Bluefin a pretty much the only thing going on right now. Numbers of Tuna have dropped off a little but the bigger fish have made their way into the Stellwagen area with the southwest corner producing some great fish. There’s been lots of Mackerel out there for bait last week and anglers should continue to see them this week. Stop into Redtop Sporting Goods as they have their Christmas specials on. Sebile Magic Swimmers are only $9.99 and lots of other gear at 15% off.

INSHORE – There is not a whole lot of action inshore this week. Tog (Tautog) are still biting Green Crabs however anglers will have to put in some time to find them. Alternatively other species of crabs will work but the Greenies seem to be most productive. There are very few Stripers (Bass, Striped) left as they are thinning out at this point. SP Minnow and soft plastics are still working well.
OFFSHORE – Tuna, Bluefin continue to to bite this week. They are loving Live Mackerel which can be found inshore and off. Anglers have been live lining for them to catch Tuna. A lot of fishermen have moved to the freshwater at this point.

INSHORE – There has not been a lot of action happening inshore at this time. The Tautog bite continues to do consistently well this week and anglers are catching tons per trip. Green Crabs are still the most effective bait around structures and shallow water. There are still reports of Stripers (Bass, Striped) in the canals however the bite has become a little more spotty at this point. SP Minnows and soft plastics are still working well here.
OFFSHORE – The SouthWest corner of the bank out through Chatham has produced a very good Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) bite with some big fish being caught. Anglers are live-lining Mackerel for them and finding it very effective. There are plenty of Mackerel for bait running in the deep water.
BAIT REPORT – There are some spotty Mackerel inshore however most are being caught offshore at this time.

INSHORE – The Tautog bite is continuing to be consistent and our sources have had great reports of catching up to 100 per trip on multi-angler boats. They are hitting live Green Crab, or any kind of Crab for that matter. Anglers can find them around any sort of structures. The canals still have Bass, Striped swimming as not all of them have moved out from here. There have been good and bad days depending on the water levels, although there are still keepers being caught. Anglers are finding the bass prefer artificials like lures and plugs. At night the bait of choice is an SP Minnow or soft plastic with a small weighted head. Alternatively a whitish pink pencil popper is great for the morning. Vudu Shrimp are also working well as they match the running bait.
OFFSHORE – The Bluefin (Tuna, Bluefin) bite has remained steady with a good amount of substantial sizes caught lately. They have seemed to slow down in the past few days however are still out that and have not moved out at this point. They have been chasing Mackerel all over the place so anglers are stocking up before they head out.
BAIT REPORT – There are tons of Shrimp running in the canal and bass are chasing them. OF NOTE – Redtop Sporting Goods has a huge Black Friday sale coming up with select lures marked down to just $9.99. Check out these and more great deals in store!!

INSHORE – Canal fishing is still in pretty good shape. Anglers are using anything from Pencil poppers, savage swimmers, SP Minnows, bombers and swim shads to catch up to 25 lb Stripers (Bass, Striped). Tautog is still biting as well and they are taking Green Crabs.
OFFSHORE – There have been a few reports of some Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin & Tuna, Yellowfin) still hanging out offshore however anglers are having to head off quite a bit further. The live run of Mackerel has been a good opportunity for Anglers to use as live bait. The season is beginning to wind down and less reports are coming in from the offshore.
BAIT REPORT – Green Crabs and Mackerel are in the water for anglers looking to catch their own. OF NOTE – Redtop Sporting Goods has a huge Black Friday sale coming up with select lures marked down to just $9.99. Check out these and more great deals in store!!

OFFSHORE – Not much has been heard from anglers this week. There are still some Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin & Tuna, Yellowfin) but without specifics on location or size. Most people are staying inside and avoiding the hard sea conditions. If you do make your way out the expectation is that the Southwest corner will have the best bite, however not a lot of people are venturing out to the Canyons at this time.
INSHORE – Everything is slowing down at this point. There are still some Tautog in good sizes being reported. Anglers are using Crabs, with Green being the most popular. The best technique is to first anchor and toss the crab’s limbs overboard as chum. Then hook your crab (half or whole) to use as bait. You will want to look around the rock piles and boulders as all the Tautog will be hiding and looking for something to eat. They are expected to migrate to warmer water in the next few weeks. Anglers are still waiting for bigger fish to push down and have been catching smaller fish on plugs and swimmers.
BAIT REPORT – There are lots of juvenile Pogies and Mackerel running right now. If you head out with a Sibiki rig you will be likely to catch them on the jig. The Sand Eels have made their way out and are gone for the most part due to temperatures.
OF NOTE – Keep an eye out for Redtop Sporting Goods’ HUGE Black Friday Sale with select lures reg. $40.99 down to $9.99. You won’t want to miss that.

INSHORE – Fishing has been great so far for Tautog using Green Crabs in the canals and around the rock piles. There are still some Bluefish even though the water is starting to cool down. There is no shortage of schools with fish 15-30 inches. There are some bigger fish to be caught but you’ll have to put in a little more work to get them. There are fish around the surf and on the south shore so hopefully that’s a sign of bigger fish in the coming weeks. The False Albacore are quieting down and more likely moving South. Striped Bass are numbers aren’t too bad. Pencil Poppers 5-6 inches long and roughly 2 oz. Minnows, Swim Shads and 7 inch Shads are working well for Stripers. Anglers are mostly fishing tight inshore however some boaters have made their way into the sound to find Flounder taking live bait while bottom fishing.
BAIT REPORT – There’s really only tiny baits in the canal right now. It’s more worth your time to pick up bait from the shops.

OFFSHORE – The Canal is a little slow but the tide is due on Monday. This week is a little slow, things will pick up next week. A lot of False Albacore on the edges of the Canal. Kastmaster and Swedish Pimples are working well out on the Canal. A lot of Striped Bass on the West end, and East end, but very few big fish in the middle. Striped Bass anglers are using Pencil Poppers and Savage Sandeels right now.
BAIT REPORT – Full sized Pogies, Peanut Bunker, and Halfbeak are everywhere to use for live bait.
