Fort Pierce Fishing Report

INSHORE – The bite has been steady inshore this week. For the most part everything is on schedule, aside from the recent wind which has thrown a few fish off. Trout and Redfish are resilient and when anglers are able to make it on the water they are catching fish. Target Trout during the golden hours, sunrise and sunset. With the weather and murky water you’ll want to be using live bait for attraction. The same story goes for Reds, however they are pushing up to the shallower water. They don’t necessarily mind a bit of dirty water, but they still like to keep shallow. Searching areas such as Pumphouse Road in Titusville will be key. Of course, we can’t forget about the Snook as they hold up on docks and mangrove shorelines up and down the coast. Sizes and numbers are good throughout. They too, will likely come on live bait. Deeper docks may be holding Drum, so don’t be surprised if you hook them as a bycatch. The new kid in town has been Bluefish, and they’re coming in with style. Huge sizes have invaded the beaches, in some areas scaring off other species. Pompano and Whiting can be caught from the beach as well, however they aren’t as consistent down the coast. Towards Indian River you can find them in the inlets, but be prepared for a fight.

OFFSHORE – Unsurprisingly wind has made it tough to get offshore this week however a few weather windows have allowed anglers to make quick trips and take advantage of the bite. By far, the best bite has been from the incoming Dolphin as they make their way in. Towards Daytona, anglers are still travelling quite far, to 2500 feet of water to find them. By the time we get to Indian River they are as close as 120 feet of water. The sizes are decent so far and when the weather allows they are definitely worth going after. The bottom bite is also producing this week. Amberjack have turned up from roughly 90 feet of water out of the Indian River area. Sandbar Sharks can also be found swimming offshore, but most anglers are avoiding them while targeting Ajs during the few opportunities they have. Swimming above, anglers are excited to see Kings making their way closer to shore. It shouldn’t be long before they are nearshore. Target them on the troll as they have been quite active over the past week.

INSHORE – Tripletail are in the port on the buoy lines. The inlet is holding a hot Snook (Snook, Common) bite into this week. Monster Bluefish are also around. They are New Jersey Bluefish holding up here and they are up to 20 pounds in big schools which is rare for the area. This time of year they are normally hot however they are usually up to 5 pounds. The big fish just seem to have taken a break on their way up. They will likely continue their move soon. Cobia are a bit scattered but anglers are hooking a few free swimmers here and there.

OFFSHORE – Dolphin fishing has begun to pick up from 150 to 200 feet of water, look for weedlines. Tuna are hot for anglers heading to the other side. Yellowfin (Tuna, Yellowfin) in particular are decent sizes as we head to the West side of the Gulf Stream and the bite is great.

Fort Pierce Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is a superb variety of fish to be taken inshore this week. The Trout in particular are the main bite so far. The early morning and late evening bite has been, hands down, the best time to fish from Daytona to Port St. Lucie. A variety of setups are working to hook them including both live and artificial baits. As we move towards Titusville we see live bait being more successful. Overall there has been no trouble stacking up a few good Trout. Typically talking about Redfish goes hand in hand with Trout however this week they seem to be a bit more scattered. They are still worth targeting inshore however there are no impressive numbers to report.
Snook are a close second in terms of the hot bite. They, too, are being caught from Daytona through Port St. Lucie. They aren’t too picky in terms of what they have been taking. Artificials such as Spoolteks and Flare Hawks are working along with live Pilchards, Menhaden or Mullet. They seem to be an easy fish to land this week if you are looking for a quick catch.
The typical early Spring fish are beginning to heat up. We are seeing Sheepshead on structure, Drum in the Lagoon, along with Pompano, Bluefish and Whiting heating up on the beaches. We are also seeing tons of bait moving into the coastal areas. Everything is looking good to improve throughout the next few weeks and fire up a great Spring bite.

OFFSHORE – Now that we are finally seeing some nicer weather the bite is beginning to improve. Dolphin are the main catch from Daytona to Port St. Lucie. The sizes are great so far and the bite is steady. Anglers are targeting them anywhere from 150 feet of water and out, with some areas being just a bit closer in 90 feet. Anglers haven’t had any trouble hooking up the past week.
Kings are the next more prominent target into this week. They continue to show up, scattered with Cobia a bit closer to the coast. Anglers are trolling with live bait such as Ballyhoo or Cigar Minnows.
The bottom bite has been producing the usual Snapper and Amberjack anywhere from 60 feet and out. Cape Canaveral and Sebastian in particular have been hot areas to target them.

Fort Pierce Fishing Report

INSHORE – Even though it’s been tough to get offshore this week there has been a fantastic bite for anglers heading to the surf or the inshore. We are seeing a nice variety of fish starting with a hot Drum bite from Daytona through Vero Beach area. As usual you can find them on structures as well as on the beaches and in the rivers. They are also taking a variety of bait setups including cut Clams, Shrimp or Fishbites. Plenty of Sheepshead are mixed in as they begin to fire up. You can fish them using similar bait setups.
As always, the typical Redfish, Trout and Snook are hanging around. Redfish seem to prefer the Island life so areas like Cucumber Island and the spoil islands will be key. Trout are improving as we move South but if you are targeting them be prepared to be heading out in the early morning for the best bite. Snook can’t seem to make up their minds so they are just about everywhere. It doesn’t take much looking to find them however hooking them will require Pinfish or Greenies this week.
Scattered reports of Flounder on the jetties as well as Pompano and Mackerel on the beach are beginning to come in and they should fire up as the weather improves. Bait is also beginning to show up which is a promising sign.

OFFSHORE – Despite tough fishing conditions there still some anglers braving the waters to take advantage of the unpressured bite. That being said, most reports are coming from closer wrecks and reefs with the bottom bite being more successful. Snapper are turning up in a variety of species this week and can be found consistently from Daytona to Vero. Head out to about 12 miles or look for ledges in 90 feet of water to find the best fish.
With the recent wind there has surprisingly been little debris floating around for Dolphin to be swimming under, so they are fairly scattered into this week. There are some nice catches turning up for anglers trolling Ballyhoo however they are nowhere near a steady bite. King Mackerel and Cobia are hit or miss throughout the region however they are out there if you are targeting them. If you can make it far enough offshore on a nice day, Sailfish have been caught out of Port St. Lucie.

Fort Pierce Fishing Report

INSHORE – Snook season has been pretty good throughout the Central East Coast of Florida. The hottest bite this week was out of Ft. Pierce. Charter Captains and recreational anglers alike were finding success on live bait or jigs around bridges. Port St. Lucie saw good action in the spillway and locks, you can use shiners here. Nighttime Snook anglers are crediting most of the catches to using Windcheaters, Long As, Live Targets and also Shrimp. Pompano, when you can fish the surf, are decent from the beach in Daytona and Cocoa Beach but windy. They are also at the inlet around Ft. Peirce. Anglers are also doing well from the beach in port. St. Lucie fishing from Sandbar into the drop using goofy jigs or flare hawks. There has been Bluefish mixed in aswell. The Redfish and Trout bite has been steady, though not amazing. The best reports we had all week came from Mosquito Lagoon, where fish were tailing when the wind took a break. The bite was also good near Queen’s Cove on an outgoing tide, and Port St. Lucie saw both Trout and Redfish doing alright to the South.

OFFSHORE – Anglers saw a few bumpy days this week. We would normally expect reports on Mahi, Sailfish, Snappers and Grouper at this time of year. Blame the weather for a limited number of fishable days. Wahoo fishing was slow but should pick up out of Daytona as the full moon sets in. Amberjack have fished well from 80 to 130 feet of water. A live pinfish or other live bait sent to the bottom should do the trick. Red Snapper have been caught and released all over, especially off of Daytona. There are also a lot of reports of Kingfish caught this past week. Good numbers, combined with some poor seas, have kept a lot of angler in 60 to 90 feet of water trolling Clarkspoons, Bluerunners and Threadfins.

INSHORE – Trout fishing has been much better here than for Northeast Florida. If you like Trout fishing with live bait, expect to get into some Snook as well. Since the water has been warm, the Snook are fired up from Daytona to anywhere south of that. Most of the big Snook have been caught in the high current areas such as inlets. There’s still some Pompano being caught from the surf throughout the region, they just aren’t on fire. Whiting are mixed in with the Pompano and you can fish some inshore structures for Sheepshead.

OFFSHORE – A few bumpy days kept the boats close and the focus on Cobia, Kings and Ajs. Cape Canaveral landings saw decent number of King Mackerel and Cobia landed this week. Most of the Kings came off of 8A or Pelican, Cobia from fishing structures. There hasn’t been much talk of Cobia on Rays yet, we’re going to have to stick to deeper water for now. It can’t hurt, however, to keep an eye out for them when fishing buoys for Tripletail. Amberjack continued to fish well when the boats could get to at least 80 feet of water. Some popular baits were live Pinfish and Pigfish.

OFFSHORE – Private Boats and Charter Boats alike found good King Mackerel opportunities from Cape Canaveral down to Sebastian Inlet. Off of Cape Canaveral in particular, Captains reported lots of Kings being caught around 8A. The only thing that seemed to slow the fishing down was a little bit of weather.
Cobia reports were slim this week although the Palm Bay / Melbourne area did offer up some of these fish in 60 ft of water. Offshore bait had been a little lean from Daytona Beach and South towards Stuart, trolling for Dolphin only saw a few boats hooking Gaffers.

Vero Beach / Ft Pierce Fishing Report

INSHORE – Beach fishing has been decent throughout the region. Whiting, Bluefish and Pompano are being caught in good numbers up around New Smyrna Beach. As you go South towards Cocoa Beach you will begin to see more Redfish, Black Drum and Sharks such as Blacktip, Spinner and Blacknose on the beach. Palm Bay and Melbourne area in particular has a good number of Sharks chasing Whiting on the beach.
Inlet fishing from Palm Bay down to Port St. Lucie has been really productive for Snook anglers. Jack Crevalle are also being caught while Snook fishing. Most of the Jacks have been caught South of Vero beach.
Trout and Redfish haven’t been spectacular by any means however they are around any of the usual inshore flats and creeks all throughout Indian River. Shrimp, MirrOdines and DOAs will hook them.

OFFSHORE – For anyone looking to catch some Wahoo on the high speed troll they can travel to the gulf stream out of Daytona / New Smyrna area or South of Port St. Lucie. Dolphin have been really scattered. The best areas to head out of will be Palm Bay / Melbourne or farther South of Stuart. Kingfish and Sailfish have been decent when the boats can get out. Successful boats have launched out of Port Canaveral, Fort Pierce and South.
Offshore and nearshore bottom fishing was strongest from Palm Bay down to Vero Beach. Mostly Lanes and Vermillion Snapper are turning up. As you move farther South Mangroves are mixed in. Particularly off of Stuart there are plenty of catch and release Triggerfish. The only real word on Cobia came in from anglers fishing the wrecks and reefs out of Vero Beach.

Vero Beach / Ft Pierce Fishing Report

INSHORE – We are seeing a few Snapper (Snapper, Gray) inshore as well. They are still holding up on structure around the channel ledges. Shrimp has been the key to catching them along with assorted whitebait. Snook (Snook, Common) have been biting well at night around the jetty. Live bait on a jig has been a great setup, you can even sight fish for them the water is so clear. We expect them to heat up with the upcoming front. During the day the Snook can be found around the inlet during an outgoing tide. Very few are hanging around the bridges. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are consistent for beach fishermen. Search the power plant or Walton Rocks to find them as well. You can also find them around the inlet with a few Flounder (Flounder, Southern) mixed in. Inshore, the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are in shallow from 3-5 ft. Soft plastics in red are doing well towards the Power Plant towards the midway. The outgoing tide is best. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below to reveal tons of information and tips to catch!

OFFSHORE – Anglers heading to the nearshore this week won’t be disappointed with the bite. We are seeing steady Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) turn up in 60-80 ft on wrecks, reefs and structure. Generally live Shrimp will do well to hook them right off the bottom. Kingfish (Mackerel, King) have also turned up off the reef and they are mixed in with a steady Cobia bite. Farther out we are seeing a few Wahoo being caught. The high speed troll is often the most productive method to catch them. Around the color change, the Dolphin are biting. They can also be found mixed with Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) from 150-200 ft. Live bait, such as Ballyhoo, has been really productive for the offshore bite.

Vero Beach / Ft Pierce Fishing Report

INSHORE – This week we were seeing a good bite of Snook (Snook, Common) on jigs. Minnows are working to hook them as well. Search the bridges and jetties to locate them during the incoming tide. They are catch and release however anglers are preparing for the season to open soon. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are plentiful in roughly 3-5 ft of water. The cool, grassy areas are the best places to find them. Live bait such as Shrimp is working best in the Southern areas during the outgoing tide. There are some Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) and Ladyfish mixed in and can be caught incidentally. From the beach, Pompano (Pompano, Florida) were swimming the inlet and Sailfish flats to the South. J.C. Park in Fort Pierce. The best time to fish was around the incoming tide. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) can be caught on jigs and live bait inshore too. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below to reveal tons of information and tips to catch!

OFFSHORE – With the recent windy weather fishing has been a bit difficult offshore. When anglers are able to get on the water they were seeing a mixed bite of Dolphin and a few Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) towards the South. When you can get out and there is enough wind, live bait on a kite has been the best option in 100-120 ft. When conditions are calmer anglers are catching them on the troll. Closer in there have also been reports of Kings (Mackerel, King) on the reef.

INSHORE – The beach fishing is strong for Pompano this week. They are all along Vero beach and to the South. Earlier in the morning is best, before 9am. Sand Fleas and Clams are your best baits along with Fish bites in combination. River fishing is great for large Sheepshead. Spanish Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) are mixed in. They are easy to find tossing silver spoons along the channel edges. The occasional Pompano (Pompano, Florida) has shown up as well. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) have also been productive along the grass flats and mangrove edges.

OFFSHORE – Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) have been great with the rough water the past few weeks. Bottom fishing has been difficult for the same reason. The troll and kite fishing is far more productive.

INSHORE – The bite has been a bit more productive into this week. Tripletail have been caught on structure around St. Lucie inlet over to the Stuart Causeway. The sizes are great so far. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Reds (Drum, Red) have been far more active on the West side of the river around Harbor Branch and to the North. The Trout are more prominent than the Reds. Shrimp under a cork is a consistently good setup. Anglers are heading to the dock lights at night for a good Snook (Snook, Common) bite. The jetties in Fort Pierce are also producing good sizes. The bridges will also produce some good fishing but are better on an outgoing tide. Flair Hawks are working well along with small MirrOlures and Deceivers in white. If you are heading to the South jetty you can expect to find Flounder (Flounder, Southern) taking live Shrimp on an incoming tide. From the beach we are seeing a great Pompano (Pompano, Florida) bite along the Sailfish flats as well as the Jensen Beach and Stuart Causeways. We hope to see this continue into the weekend. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below to reveal tons of information and tips to catch!

OFFSHORE – Now that we are seeing a bit nicer weather the offshore fishing is heating back up! Closer in there have been reports of Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) in Peck’s lake and the Stuart Causeway. Moving farther out, the reefs are holding scattered Cobia and a solid Kingfish (Mackerel, King) bite. Search anywhere from 60-80 ft to find them. If you are heading out in the evening you can expect to find Snapper (Snapper, Gray) in the same area. Make sure you bring live Shrimp or cut bait with you. The scent will make them more active. Farther offshore in 140-200ft we are seeing a great number of Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish), Mahi (Dolphin) and even a few Wahoo. Wahoo can be hooked on the high speed troll. Generally live Ballyhoo is a good bet in terms of bait. Dolphin can be a bit scattered however they are out there with the Sails so if you are targeting them you may have to be patient. Vero Beach / Ft Pierce Fishing Report

INSHORE – Inshore bottom fishing is producing Sheepshead around the bridges and inside the channels. Drum (Drum, Black) are in the same places. Live Shrimp is your best bet to hook the Drum. If the Shrimp is small enough, Sheepshead will take it too. There is a good amount of Redfish (Drum, Red) in the inlets and on the flats with this cooler weather. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have been pretty good as well. Snook (Snook, Common) are biting in the inlet and around the bridges. They are taking Bucktails and SpoolTeks. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have been hooked around the Harbor Branch Area, Indian River and on the beach. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – The moon is turning on the Snapper from 80-100 ft. Mangroves, Muttons and Lanes (Snapper, Mutton & Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Lane) are most of the Snapper brought in. Dolphin and Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) are scattered. Look for water lines in the current or weed lines to find them. They aren’t biting in big numbers but they are out there. Anglers are trolling small Ballyhoo to hook the Sails.

BAIT REPORT – Bait is scarce inshore. There are still some scattered Finger Mullet and Threadfins around the bridges.

Vero Beach / Ft Pierce Fishing Report

INSHORE – Fishing Shrimp on a popping cork in about 10.5 ft of water on the East Shoreline towards Queens Cove, there has been a great Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite ranging from 2-4 lbs. You can fish the same way with Finger Mullet for bigger sizes. Drum and Sheepshead are on the channel edge if you can mark some good bottom. The Snook (Snook, Common) bite is strong at Fort Pierce Inlet on an incoming tide using Pinfish. Out front off the beach, the Pompano (Pompano, Florida) bite has been great on Sand Fleas or Clams on a Pompano Rig. PENN Rod and Reel Combos are 15 % off! You can also book your charter right out of Vero Tackle so stop in, stock up and hit the water! PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks!

BAIT REPORT – There are quite a few Finger Mullet pods at the boat ramps first thing in the morning. They are beginning to thin out as it is almost the end of the run. Shrimp are beginning to show up.

Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are swimming the South Jetty. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are doing well too. Oddly, Bonefish are swimming the flats and have been caught while targeting Pompano. They are taking Shrimp on the incoming tide and have been up to 3 lbs. On the beach the Bluefish and Pompano are biting with Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish). The White’s Tackle Shop Grand Opening in Vero Beach is happening Saturday at 8am to 5pm! Stop in and check it out! PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – Wahoo are hit or miss at the Stream. Dolphin have been caught from 15-20 lbs. The bite is not on fire but the fish being caught aren’t too bad. They can be found in 200-225ft ft live baiting on a kite or trolling Ballyhoo. The Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) bite is improving as the temperatures cool. They are just a bit closer than the Dolphin in 120 – 150 ft.

BAIT REPORT – There are tons of Shrimp but only a few Mullet around inshore.

Vero Beach / Ft Pierce Fishing Report

INSHORE – This morning we were welcomed with a little cooler temperatures and a small break in the wind. Therefore, it’s a great time to get out and go fishing. Inshore the Snook (Snook, Common) fishing has been red hot. The Fort Pierce and Sebastian inlets have been a hot area for these line-siders. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) have been steady here the last couple weeks with some fish in the north Indian River. This cooler weather should improve the bite over the next couple of days. Early in the morning a walking topwater bait will work best, such as a Skitter Walk. Small Paddle Tail baits by Slayer or DOA are also productive. Big cut Mullet on the chunk is a great addition. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – Offshore it has been too rough to get out and fish here the last few weeks, but there have been a few reports of Dolphin in the 100-300 foot area. There have also been some reports of bait around the buoys and reefs. Ballyhoo or live bait such as Threadfin or Mullet are working well to hook them on the troll. SEBASTIAN INLET TO JUPITER INLET 0-20 NM- 412 AM EDT FRI NOV 4 2016 SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE SUNDAY NIGHT

BAIT REPORT – Threadfins are swimming the buoys and the reef. The reef is also holding Sardine and Bluerunners.

Vero Beach / Ft Pierce Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is a big Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite this week. They are being caught in 2-5 ft. Use a popping cork, freeline a Shrimp or Mullet or cast a Pinfish to hook them. Try to get out early if you can. There are also tons of Redfish in the river. Sharks (Shark, Blacktip) are moving around the beaches. Bluefish, Jacks (Jack, Crevalle), and Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) have also been caught from the surf.

OFFSHORE – It’s been a bit too unfavorable to head offshore. Normally we would expect Grouper (Grouper, Gag), Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) and a few Snappers (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Mutton) to move in. Anglers that can make it farther out during the weather breaks are finding Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) are biting on live bait from Palm Beach and south in 100-16 0ft of water. Been a few scattered Dolphin mixed in as well.

BAIT REPORT – A lot of Mullet are swimming inshore.

INSHORE – The Inshore fishing has been great with the Mullet run starting. Many big Tarpon and slot Snook (Snook, Common) have been caught on the beach and Inlet in Ft Pierce and Stuart. In Stuart there have been a lot of little Tarpon in the 10-40lbs range at the 10 cent bridge. Finger Mullet will work the best floating them back into the shadow line. There are a few big Tarpon there too so it won’t hurt to float a 9 inch Mullet. In Ft. Pierce the Snook fishing at night has been great on jigs and spoolteks. Fish the turning basin and south bridge for the best results. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – Offshore, the Wahoo bite should be great the next few days with this full moon, we have plenty of Yo-Zuri Bonita’s and Custom Wahoo lures in stock! Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have been hitting the same places however they are preferring Shrimp under a popping cork. Drum (Drum, Black) and Sheepshead have moved inside now and are fairly good sizes so far. They are not as picky and are hitting just about anything. Sand fleas, clams and Shrimp will be productive to catch both Drum and Sheeps this week.

INSHORE – Improving winds and sea conditions have allowed anglers the opportunity to capitalize on the fall bite. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) and Drum (Drum, Red) are making their annual appearance at the Inlet and surrounding areas. Flounder and Drum are taking Mud Minnows, as well as Finger Mullet, Live Shrimp and Clams. High-tide Tarpon action has been reported at both the South and North jetties, although the Snook, Common bite has slowed somewhat. With our water temps starting to lower, we expect that the Black Drum (Drum, Black) and Sheepshead bite will pick up shortly. Offshore angling has been limited due to the recent cold front passing through that created high winds, high seas and daily small craft warnings. We expect the weather pattern to change over the course of the next week and hope to have more to report soon. Vero Beach / Ft Pierce Fishing Report

INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) has been go so far this week, along with Reds (Drum, Red) around Vero. They are loving any soft plastics such as a DOA or berkley gulp. Live Shrimp has been a great choice of live bait set under a popping cork. Snook, Common have been holding up around the bridges and the fishing is best at night with live bait on a jig. They are going after Pinfish specifically this week. A few Pompano, Florida are beginning to show up with the cooler weather as well.

OFFSHORE – The unfavorable conditions have not made offshore angling easy this week however there have been a few reports come in. Our sources suspect the cool weather has pushed a solid Billfish – Sailfish bite down and will increase as the temperature drops. There are likely a few Dolphin swimming as well from 100-150 ft of water. Most anglers are trolling with Ballyhoo or slow trolling alternative live baits.

BAIT REPORT – There are no bait to report for this area yet this week. Anglers keep your eyes open for White’s Tackle Shop’s possible pop up sale this Friday and Saturday. More details online.

Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have been on fire in the grass flats from 3-5 ft. Anglers have been using live Shrimp under a popping cork, with a deeper setup having the Shrimp farther from the cork for the deeper grass flats. The tips of the island and sandbars are producing a bigger Trout bite along with some Snook, Common as well. They have been hitting live Finger Mullet that can be caught off the shore. On the channel edge there is a good Drum, Black and Sheepshead bite. The Pompano, Florida bite is beginning to pick up for anglers who are brave enough to take on the unsheltered wind conditions however this bite is expected to continue after the wind lies down as well. BAIT REPORT – There are still a few Finger Mullet running and they are working well with inshore fish. Book your holiday charters now before all the spots at Vero Tackle & Marina fill up! INSHORE – Fishing has been good around the island. Seatrout, Spotted and Drum, Red are around the harbor flats. They are pretty thick and looking for anything live to swim in front of them. There are a few Snook, Common in the jetty mixed in with some more Reds hitting live bait and jigs. The outgoing tide is the best time to hit the water for these species. Snapper, Yellowtail have been swimming the channel edges chasing live Shrimp and Whitebait. Now that the weather has laid down, fishing has definitely improved. OFFSHORE – Dolphin and Wahoo have continued to have a solid bite anywhere from 200 – 300 feet. The Billfish – Sailfish bite has begun to slow down but is expected to pick up with the North Wind this coming weekend. Grouper, Gag and Jack Crevalle have been hiding out on the deep wrecks on the South side. Mackerel, King have also made an appearance on the reef and around the Sails and Dolphins. BAIT REPORT – There are no bait running to report at this time. White’s Tackle Shop 772 – 461 – 6909

Vero Beach / Ft Pierce Fishing Report

INSHORE – There have been some Pompano, Florida running the beaches and anglers are using live clams and sand fleas for these. With the changing weather the fish have been moving and becoming slightly more difficult to find. There have not been reports of other species having been caught in this area. OFFSHORE – It has still been pretty breezy in the farther out locations this week. There have been no reports of offshore fishing lately. If you do decide to head out in the next few days you can always consult our Tips feature that provides more information and suggestions that could help improve your catch. You could also head into Professional Outfitters Inc for an up to the minute report. BAIT REPORT – The Mullet have pretty well moved out at this point. Live baiters are mostly turning to frozen. Vero Beach / Ft Pierce Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The wind has been ripping offshore and though there are usually not a lot of offshore anglers there are even less this week. When the wind does die down we expect to see Lane Snapper and Mangrove Snapper at about 90 ft. Search the wrecks and rock piles for these fish straight out from Fort Pierce. If you’re using Cut Bait as well as either Live Menhaden and Pinfish, you’ll do fine.

INSHORE – The tide has been high the past week so fishing the Island points and main lines toward Fort Pierce are producing the best results. Free Lining Finger Mullet has been catching plenty of Trout and Redfish. They have had a steady bite, especially if you are using live bait. You could also consider Mullet under a cork or bobber. While the Finger Mullet is still running it is a great time to take advantage of the hungry fish.

BAIT REPORT – Get them while you can. The Finger Mullet run is almost over and expected to come to a close the first week of November. You only have a few more weeks to stock up. Keep in mind you can always take a look at our Tips section by tapping on the fish of your choice. This will provide you with alternative bait options, suggestions and ‘how to’s to help you increase your catch.

OFFSHORE – If you head 90 feet straight East out of Fort Pierce, near the weed lines, you’ll come across some Dolphin. They’re not huge, but have been about 10 pounds. The Dolphin are going for Ballyhoo with skirts. The color to use is Chartreuse. INSHORE – The Mullet run is in full swing right now. With that you have a lot of Spinner Sharks, Tarpon, Jacks and Snook that you can fish for right off the beach. If you don’t want to use live Mullet, the fish will also hook up on any kind of big plug that looks like a Mullet including silver spoons, topwaters, and bomber windcheaters. Comparing live bait and artificial, the fish are mostly hitting the live bait. Incoming tide has been the best time of day to fish. BAIT REPORT – There have been a lot of Mullet working up and down the beach. Come into the shop and check out Vero Tackle and Marina. We have some Snook combos on sale right now for 10% off. Vero Beach / Ft Pierce Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The anglers are trolling for Dolphin 600 to 700 ft. out. Dolphin have really been biting at blue and white skirted Ballyhoo. INSHORE – The weather hasn’t been the greatest with a lot of afternoon thunderstorms. There are some Snook to catch along the beach. For Snook inshore, the anglers have been having some great results use artificial lures. If you’re looking to do some inshore fishing, pick up some Taylor Creek Stowaway and Terror Eyes lures and you’ll have a good day. Vero Beach / Ft Pierce Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Out towards Port St. Lucie there has been a good Blackfin Tuna bite starting in 400 feet of water. You will be travelling about 12 – 20 miles offshore. Feathers are working very well and any rods rigged with one should be your furthest rod out.

INSHORE – Off the beach you are going to be aiming for Whiting and Pompano. You might also get a Mackerel or one of the other usual fish. Shrimp is going to be your best bait, but the Mullet are running right now and that is what everything is feeding on. If you want to target the Pompano specifically then tailor your bait; they have a preference for Clams and Sand Fleas.

BAIT REPORT – There is Mullet running the river, and you can catch Pinfish in traps. You will have to buy Shrimp, but if you plan on buying bait then you can’t go wrong with Shrimp. If you want to dig up your own Sand Fleas, watch the waves roll in and out and look for bubbles that appear after the wave leaves. Bubbles can mean that there are Sand Fleas buried there.

Vero Beach Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The Dolphin come in close during the summer. Wahoo and Dolphin are coming close, with Wahoo being caught in the 85-120 foot range. If you go too far, say 600 feet, you risk over shooting the fish and you will only get Kings that far out. There are also Cobia around. The Dolphin will follow the weedlines so keep an eye open for offshore birds and grass. Bottom fishing is still slow from that thermocline but it is starting to dissipate. It did bring all the Snapper into the river – the kind you usually catch out on the reef. The bottom fishing guys say that the temperature offshore is still too low.

INSHORE – As I said above, the Snapper are in the river. You are going to want to drop some Shrimp down for them. The Snook fishing has also been good around the bridges and the inlets on the outgoing tide. Jigs and live bait are both producing great fish, however, most of the fishing is catch and release until the Snook season opens up September 1st. The Reds have been around Harbor Branch to the North, and there are a few Trout mixed in. To the South around Bear Point there has been a few reports of nice Trout and a few Snook mixed in.

BAIT REPORT – Some bait on the beach, Silver Mullet, Finger Mullet and Pilchards.

Vero Beach / Fort Pierce Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Bottom fishing has been slow because of the thermocline, but it should pick up now that the water temperature is climbing; it is in the low 70s. If the water cools back off again, which it may because of the west wind right now, you may just want to cruise down the beach for the cobia because they will be swimming high in the water column, closer in. As for Dolphin fishing it is hit or miss, they are here or gone. Sailfishing has been productive in 120-140 foot bottom. For the Sails you want to go to the north east grounds. It is the usual summertime pattern with storms every afternoon, so plan on an early catch. If the water is to warm you can find Mangrove Snapper, Mutton Snapper, Yellowtail Snapper, Gag Grouper, Black Grouper, and more hiding out in the cooler bottom water around rocks, wrecks, and structure. If you bottom fish in the 50-60 feet near shore, then you will probably stumble upon a Black Sea Bass or Lionfish. The Lionfish is invasive and it is illegal to throw them back, they are delicious though so give them a fry.

INSHORE – There are Tarpon early in the morning and Snapper in the channel. The Trout are under popping corks in 2.5-3 feet of water. There are no Flounder to be heard of unfortunately. The Redfish have been appearing in scattered numbers to the north of Vero. The bite is really good in the 60-90 foot range. The King Mackerel bite has been good if you find where that 60-90 sweet spot. You want to find the bait pods and then go 20-40 feet further out and you should run into some Kings just away from the pods.

BAIT REPORT – There is lots of bait around. There are Black and Silver Mullet, and Pinfish.

Vero Tackle & Marina does rod and reel repair too, so pop on by if you need them.

Vero Beach Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Jeff at White’s Tackle was telling me that the ocean fishing has been really good. Sailfish are around right now. The Cobia and Dolphin are also biting. Good fishing starts out 80-90 feet on live bait. Live baiting on the reef and then drifting slowly over the reef is going to get the attention of a lot of fish that live there. It is a pretty mixed bag there, but try drawing attention by drifting one bait deep and one on the surface.

RIVER – River fishing has been ok, but it hasn’t been fantastic. The water is starting to get a little too hot. Earlier this week it was really rainy and that keeps the sun from beating on the water – which we need. But that also means that the salinity will drop and bait is apt to get flushed around. There are Trout in the river, and lots of bait to the south like Mullet. Early in the morning and late in the afternoon the fish are really active especially the Trout, Redfish, and Snook around Fort Pierce. Try fishing between the fishing docks and the shallow bars, it has been quite productive there.

BAIT REPORT – Bait is more inshore, mainly Threadfin Herring, Sardines, Cigar Minnows.

Vero Beach / Fort Pierce Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The bottom fishing is not very good right now because the thermocline is in. Since the bottom is really cold the best offshore fishing is trolling for Dolphin and Sailfish. You want to troll in the 120-140 foot range for them. Ballyhoo is the best bait and you can drag them along skirted or naked.

INSHORE – The usual suspects are inshore right now. Cobia, one of our contacts over at Professional Outfitters Inc. has seen Snapper, Redfish, Snook, and Trout. Right now the Trout, Redfish, and Snook are best on the flats. You want to take out Shrimp or mullet if you can. The Mullet are around right now and they are actually the preferred bait over the Shrimp. The Mangroves are also good right now.

BAIT REPORT – Bait is around right now. As Cobia was telling me, the Mullet are the go to right now.

Vero Beach / Fort Pierce Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Snapper bite good offshore and inshore. You want to start at 40 feet down and fish anywhere between there and the 90 foot ledge. The Snapper offshore is more focused on Sardines, Pinfish, and Squid. There are also a few Dolphin and Sailfish around the 110-160 foot area biting hard on frozen Ballyhoo and Pinfish.

INSHORE – Captain Billy over at Vero Tackle and Marina has been cashing in on the Snook bite with some Mullet. They are all along the mangroves south of Harbour Branch. The tide has been super low the last week so all of the sand bars on this side of the main channel are producing some nice Trout fishing on Mullet and Pigfish. The Snapper bite is also turned on around the channel edges, bridges, and inlets – for these he likes to use live shrimp and Mahara.

BAIT REPORT – Plenty of Pinfish, but Mullet and Greenies aren’t really here.

Captain Billy also runs Charters out of Vero Tackle and Marina so if you are looking to go out fishing give him a dial. He has even picked up the phone after hours for me once or twice, and while I live too far away to buy him a beer, he gets an honorable mention from me.

Vero Beach / Fort Pierce Fishing Report

OFFSHORE:Offshore Captain Bryan at Predator Sport Fishing Charters has been hearing about Mangrove Snapper about 11-12 miles out in 80ft of water. That bite is going well on live bait. Captain Billy Davenport from Vero Bait and Tackle has been hearing about the excellent Dolphin bite. They are out about 14 miles, in 100 feet of water around the weed line. Anglers here are trolling with live Greenies.

INSHORE: The inshore fishing is great! There are lots of Trout on the grass flats. They are biting well with a popping cork with a Live Shrimp or DOA Shrimp. The Redfish are also hot on the same bait, but they are hanging out near the mangroves. The Mangrove Snapper bite is also excellent in the river, by the bridges and just off the beach on rock piles and reefs. They are biting well on live Shrimp. Tarpon are also good just outside the beach. They are biting well on live Mullet and Pinfish.

BAIT : Out off the beach and river there are some Pilchards balling up.

Vero Beach / Fort Pierce Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The bite is good offshore. If you’re into trolling the trusty Dolphin will be your go to! The Dolphin are hitting well on Ballyhoo that is trolled at around 5 knots. If bottom fishing is more your style then you’ll be fishing for Snapper. You’ll want to drop Sardines for these fish. They tend to be hanging out about 12 miles off shore.

INSHORE – The inshore fishing is good! There are plenty of Redfish, Trout and Snapper. The flats are a particularly productive area to fish. Mullet, Shrimp and Pinfish are all great for live bait if you can get them. If you’d prefer to stick to lures or artificials try the Unfair Lure Whip and Slash 70 in Pearl and Black. The Tarpon are also moving in so you can expect to see more of them over the next few weeks.

BAIT REPORT – There are lots of Mullet and Pinfish inshore.

Vero Beach / Fort Pierce Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Captain David Has two boats fishing in different areas, but right now he is seeing a good amount of Mangrove Snapper, Mutton Snapper, and Cobia around 80 feet of water. These fish love Squid and Sardines but you can also catch some of your own bait out there. These fish should remain steady for the next little while.

INSHORE – If you want to go inshore fishing get out early in the morning and beat the sun. Head on out to the flats, weedlines and inlets at this time and you’ll find a hot bite on Snapper, Black Drum and Trout. These fish are crazy about live Shrimp so use this as your bait and you’ll reel them in for sure.

BAIT REPORT – There is lots of bait around. Specific bait fish that have been around include: Tomtate, Grunts and Sardines. Another great bait you can find are Pinfish and you’ll find those offshore.
