FISHING REPORTS
FLORIDA SOUTH WEST
The offshore bite is still quite scattered following all the recent weather we have had. There are scattered King Mackerel, Spanish, Bonito, Dolphin and the odd bottomfish, however there hasn't been anything consistent just yet. Most anglers have still opted to focus on the inshore fishing. We hope to see the bite return very soon.
Although the inshore waters haven't fully recovered yet we are beginning to see the return of a few species. The Redfish have been the most consistent being caught from Naples through Port Charlotte. Anglers who are able to spend some time on the water looking for cleaner pockets have found success. Reefs, oyster bars, edges and passes are your best starting points. Live bait will do well to attract them.
Snook are still on the mend this week however a handful have shown up from Sanibel through Venice. In some cases they are hanging out with the Redfish and in other cases they have found their own clean water pockets. They are mostly small at this point and we expect the larger sizes to move back in as soon as the water clears up.
Trout have begun their slow return to the area however they are far more particular to the conditions than most other fish. Detesting dirty water they opt to hold up in deeper, saltier pockets. Fish caught inshore are often shorts while the larger fish wait to move back in. We hope to see this transition very soon.
