Florida Central West Fishing Report

It has still been a bit too rough for most anglers to make it offshore over the past week. The nearshore bite has reported a few Spanish and Cobia turning up however they are far from consistent. The Cobia sizes are good as they make their way in. Anglers are landing fish up to 80 pounds right at the surface. Spanish are more often caught on the troll using flashy lures or Clarkspoons. We hope to see the activity return as soon as conditions are favorable.

The Redfish bite has returned stronger than ever. They are consistently showing up from Bradenton through Homosassa and you can find them just about everywhere. Since the water is still a bit dirty a majority of the fish are preferring live bait. It's easier to find due to the scent and movement it produces in the water. Scaled Sardines, Pinfish, Greenbacks and Mullet are all working well. We hope to see them continue to activate as we move into the Fall. Trout have also been showing up well this week. The water is cooling and we are seeing a far more active bite. They are holding up anywhere from 4 to 6 feet of water and if you can find some clean patches you'll be in the money. Now that the water has cooled you'll have to pace yourself as you may need to spend a bit more time looking for them. Snook have picked up as we find a variety of sizes scattered throughout the inshore. Beaches, Bridges, and outer islands are all producing fish on live bait or artificials. The bite is on and we hope it continues to increase through the weekend.
