El Grande/Miramir/Half Moon Bay Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – The long awaited bite is over and Rockfish (Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Yellowtail & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Starry & Rockfish, Widow & Rockfish, Canary) are finally open! Great numbers have turned up on full day trips with easy limits landing quickly. Even Lingcod are turning up with solid numbers as we move into the season. Metal jigs tipped with Squid are key, especially over rocky bottom. We hope to see this continue into next week.

INSHORE – As anglers wait for Rockfish to open we anticipate that things are heating up nicely. In the meantime, Sanddab (Sanddab, Pacific) and Surfperch (Surfperch, Barred & Surfperch, Redtail) are the main fish to target during this time of year. If you are fishing for them, Bloodworms, Gulp Worms or Lugworms are generally your best bet in shallower, warm areas during the day. We hope to continue to see nice weather until then the Spring bite fires up.

INSHORE – There hasn’t been a whole lot of change in this area as we wait for Rockfish to open. We are seeing the typical Perch (Surfperch, Barred) taking Lugworms, Gulp Worms or Bloodworms in shallow, warm water during the day. Stripers (Bass, Striped) are beginning to show up as well. They are still small at this point however this is a good sign for the upcoming season. We hope to see this continue until the Spring fires up the bite.

INSHORE – The weather has been great for fishing this week so anglers are taking advantage of the inshore Surfperch (Surfperch, Barred) bite on Big Hammers or Gulp around Monera and Ocean Beach. There has also been a few catches of inshore Rockfish (Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Copper) on jetties structure as well. This is a good sign that the bite will be great for opener!

INSHORE – We are finally starting to see some nicer weather in this area which means the bite should heat up any time. This week we continue to find some Rockfish (Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Copper) turning up along structure. The jetties have been a key place to begin targeting them. There are a few Surfperch (Surfperch, Barred) mixed in. Ocean beach and Montera are also producing well. Anglers are still finding success while Crabbing.

INSHORE – Not a lot has changed into this week. We continue to see some inshore Rockfish in around structured areas. Generally Squid on a weighted jig will do well to hook them. The Striper (Bass, Striped) bite has slowed down. Surfperch (Surfperch, Barred) continue to be caught from the beach. Lugworms and Lucky Craft lures are working particularly well.

El Grande/Miramir/Half Moon Bay Fishing Report
INSHORE – We caught up with Virg’s Bait and Tackle for a fishing report this week, and as you may have heard – and felt, the weather has been way too unfavorable for anglers to be hitting the water from shore or from boats. During the breaks anglers can Surfperch (Surfperch, Barred) on Grubs and Berkley Gulp Worms. Shrimp is a great alternative. Anglers have also been crabbing. There are flash flood warnings, high wind and huge waves. We encourage all anglers to take this time to check out some of the great Pro Angler App features and prepare for their next trip when condition are more ideal. We hope to see things improve soon!

El Grande/Miramir/Half Moon Bay Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – At the beginning of the week the fishing for Salmon (Salmon, Chinook) was slow near Natural Bridges to 5 Mile Beach in 200-240 feet. There were a few Salmon caught on the bottom but no quick limits. The Rockfish (Rockfish, Greenspotted & Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Vermillion) fishing was good near Natural Bridges in 80-100 feet of water. There were a few Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) caught on the westside of Santa Cruz. The Lingcod action remained great up the coast near Davenport and 5 Mile. The winds were down but there was some afternoon wind. The swell was down to 2-4 feet. There was a full moon and there has been some Squid on the beaches to the South. This is a good time to go looking for Sea Bass (Sea Bass, White)! Recently There were only a few boaters out so reports were slim. The majority of the anglers fished for inshore species from Natural Bridges to Capitola. There were some Halibut caught by the Mile Buoy and in Capitola. The Salmon up the coast has been slower but there were a few Salmon caught deep in the Soquel Hole. The Rock fishing continues to be the most consistent thing going on here. The winds were down all morning but it did blow up the coast near Davenport early.

INSHORE – Surfperch, Barred, fishing has been great so far this week which is just in time for the upcoming tournament. The gulp sandworm in camo has been a great lure to catch them. Sand Crabs or grubs are always a great bet as well. Rip Tides on the beach is the spot to fish for them. The deeper holes will be holding the nicer fish. The Perch Derby is next weekend to benefit the Salmon and Trout Project. Check it out!
OFFSHORE – The Crab fishing is really good this year now that it is open for sport anglers. They can be found from 120-220 ft of water. They are all over. Mackerel, Pacific are close to the edge of the canyon while the Sanddab, Pacific are a bit closer on the bottom from 120 ft. Anglers are using Squid to catch them.

INSHORE – The weather has been decent so far this week but there has been some swells and some wind deterring anglers from getting on the water. Anglers are heading out to the bay to target Sanddabs (Sanddab, Pacific), Sole (Sole, Petrale), Flounder (Flounder, Starry), Bass (Sea Bass, White & Bass, Striper) as well as Halibut, Pacific. They can all be found however some are more plentiful than others so anglers will have to put their time in for some of them. From the bay shore anglers can still target Rockfish, Cabezon and Lingcod which can be found from the piers and rocks as well. The surf is producing Surfperch, Barred for anglers using gulp Sandworms. Soft Shell Sand Crabs are usually an all time favorite as well during the latter half of the incoming tide.

INSHORE – The weather has begun to settle down in this area and anglers are finally heading out for some Rockfishing in the bay, although it is closed for boat based fishing. Anglers are looking for Lingcod, Cabezon and various Rockfish (Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish Starry). Anglers are hooking some Rocks off the piers along with some Lingcod, Cabezon and Perch as well. They are mostly on the West side and up. Squid, Shrimp and scented artificials have provided the best bite. There are some Halibut, Pacific, Stripers and even a few Mackerel, Pacific turning up off the piers as well however they are all fairly small and nothing in a keeper size yet. The surf is producing some Stripers (Bass, Striped) however the season is pretty much closed so the reports are spotty at best. The most productive time to target them has been dawn and dusk on the incoming tide. They have also been found throughout the beaches this week. Topwater lures, bucktail jigs and pencil poppers seem to be working best. There have also been some Surfperch, Barred caught from the beach on gulps, grubs and blood worms. Ghost Shrimp and crabs are working great as well. The later half of the incoming tides will have the best fish. Look for the riptides and deeper troughs to set your baits.

OFFSHORE – Happy New Year, and welcome to 2016. Be sure to secure a new 2016 fishing license before taking that rod and reel out. Rockfish (Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Starry & Rockfish, Greenspotted & Rockfish, Copper) and Lingcod season is over and we presume will open again in May. In the meantime, charter boats from Monterey and Santa Cruz will be running wintertime trips for Sanddab, Pacific and Mackerel, Pacific and surfcasters will be prowling the beaches in search of feisty Surfperch, Barred. Fishing was actually pretty good during these last weeks of the year. The fishing was great this weekend for Rockfish and Lings near the local rock piles. There were nice Blues (Rockfish, Blue) and Blacks (Rockfish, Black) caught near Natural Bridges. The wind and swells were down making for good conditions. The high tide in the morning made the harbor easy to get in and out of unless you stayed out too late.

OFFSHORE – Wind has shut just about everything down. It has been too strong for any anglers to get out this week. It is just slightly beginning to clear up however the swells and conditions will likely not have the water ready for the weekend even if the weather is nice. The beaches and piers are pretty torn up so far this week. There has been some Rockfish (Rockfish, Vermillion & Lingcod) showing up in the area and are expected to swim after the conditions become more favorable. They will more likely be farther out as the swells are pushing them farther away. It’s not easy to tell when that will be. There hasn’t really been any Halibut, Pacific come in this week and we suspect they have moved out. The weather has been nice and producing great conditions for anglers to head out.

INSHORE – The inshore fishing has been slow this week although there have been a few reports that have come in. Rockfish (Lingcod & Rockfish, Starry) have been swimming and preferring live bait such as Squid or Minnows. Similar artificials are producing results however live is way better. There has been one report of a Halibut, Pacific reeled in but that was a surprise for our sources. The wind and rain has kept a lot of anglers inside however we are hoping it will clear up for the holiday weekend.
OFFSHORE – There is not a whole lot of action happening in the offshore this week. Although the weather has improved the water temperature has cooled so a lot of the bite has slowed down. There have not been any reports from the area this week however if anglers are hitting the water for the holidays they can always check out our Tips feature which provides additional information and suggestions to help improve the catch. Bayside Marine can provide a great up to the minute fishing report so anglers know exactly what to expect on the water.

INSHORE – The fishing has been pretty slow inshore as well. The weather has the water and the fish pretty mixed up. It has been extremely difficult to get out on the water let alone catch any of the Lingcod or various Rockfish. The Mackerel, Pacific bite is expected to continue once the weather lies down as well as the large amounts of Bonito, Pacific that were swimming.

Bottom fishing has been great as lots of Lingcod reeling in up to 12lbs and Rockcod has been phenomenal with everyone hitting their limit using live bait as well. Crab season has been shut down so anglers are adjusting.
