Daphne/Montrose Fishing Report

INSHORE – Things are firing up and anglers are hitting the water! The Speckled Trout bite has been good as they work their way out of the rivers and creeks while the water warms up. They are swimming the lower bay and passes. The intracoastal waterway is still really good and down into big Lagoon while you work your way into Florida is holding fish on the grass beds. Flounder are picking up but they aren’t red hot yet. Redfish are doing well into this week. The upper bay through creek mouths, intracoastal and mouths of the rivers has been good. Off the beach the Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) are solid. Sheepshead have slowed down as temperatures increase and the spawn comes to an end. Kings (Mackerel, King) and Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) are plentiful off the beaches. Spanish are running the passes in the morning. Troll for them up and down the beach. The Kings are decent sizes and are expected to increase. The Cobia bite is early this year and is great in terms of size and numbers. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Reds (Drum, Red) are solid in Mobile to Fort. Morgan. They are holding up on structure. It’s still a bit early for Tripletail. With all the fronts the water is a bit messy in the bay but is still easily fishable. Water quality and conditions are decent. Rains will push the Trout out of the creeks. Warmer water helps this along so fishing structure is best. The sizes are decent. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for additional angling tips and tricks!

BAIT REPORT – Most anglers are staying inshore since the waters are so rough.

INSHORE – When the wind cooperates the fishing has been great. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are out in the bay while the Reds (Drum, Red) are still in the rivers. Fish the Gas Rigs and artificial oyster reefs along with channel marks and pilings to find Trout. Old piers and manmade structure in deeper water is they key. Sheepshead are swimming the gas rigs in the bay. Shrimp has been the best bait overall, live or artificial will working. Cocahoes on a quarter ounce jig head or saltwater Assassins are also productive. This should continue into the weekend if the wind dies down. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for additional angling tips and tricks!

BAIT REPORT – Menhaden have begun to show up. Shrimp should arrive in the bay within the next month.

INSHORE – Reds (Drum, Red) and Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) are still swimming structure this week. Search the rigs to find them, but keep in mind they are going deep while still staying inside the bay. Live Shrimp has been the key bait however grubs are a good alternative during the day. INSHORE – Jetties and the pass are producing Flounder (Flounder, Southern) and Sheepshead. Reds (Drum, Red) are on top. On the calm days they are in Mobile Bay as well. Jigs cast at schools near the surface are doing well, especially if there’s Glass Minnows. A new wave of Sheepshead has moved in which is encouraging. A handful of Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have arrived. The Sheepshead are the hot ticket, and you can fish them on structure during tougher days when the Reds don’t cooperate. INSHORE – The bay has been a bit windy for anglers to get out in the past week. Most anglers are sticking to the creeks, canals and rivers. They are producing decent Specks (Seatrout, Spotted), especially in the canals. Fish along the bottom using live Shrimp or artificials to hook them. Sheepshead are swimming structure. White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) have been caught in the Turning Basin. Reds (Drum, Red) are a bit slower but can be found in Fowl River if you are willing to put some time in. Daphne/Montrose Fishing Report

INSHORE – With the warmer water temperatures we are seeing the beginnings of a Springtime bite. We are mostly fishing for Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) using live Shrimp under a popping cork. Sheepshead are also starting their spawn around structures. Rocks, rigs, bridges, seawalls and pilings are key areas to search for them. Around Dauphin Island the water is clean and we are seeing improved conditions around Mobile River. A lot of the Trout are still in the rivers. They haven’t moved out of the bay onto the flats just yet, but that should happen soon. Bull Redfish should fire up on the beaches eating the Pogies (Menhaden) that are out there. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for additional angling tips and tricks!

INSHORE – Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are coming out of the Tensaw and North Delta River. They are running thick. Fish the shorelines using chartreuse curly tails around the drop offs. Start your bait up on the shelf, once it heads over the drop off is when the Speck will hit it. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for additional angling tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin) and Wahoo are great offshore around the deeper rigs. The Salt Domes or the Horseshoe rigs to the Southwest are producing on the chunk or troll. High speed troll for the Wahoo, then stop to chunk for Tuna when you see topwater action.

BAIT REPORT – We are seeing a good bit of Finger Mullet return. A few Alewives are mixed in. In the next few weeks we will see a substantial bait increase.

INSHORE – Sheepshead have been steady so far this year. They are on the rigs, inside the bay and outside right on the beach. They are producing the best bite due to their spawn. Shrimp, Fiddler Crabs or small Blue Crabs will work well to hook them. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are still in the river. Once we see some more consistent weather they will move out into the bay into the shallower water. MirrOdines are working better than live bait. Soft plastics are a good alternative. Redfish (Drum, Red) are taking Shrimp and their numbers are good. They are mostly caught in the rivers. You can also fish the piers and grass flats to find them.

INSHORE – Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) are biting well into this week. They are up to 3 lbs with a few bigger sizes mixed in. Trout and Sheepshead are doing well in the canal. If you can get fiddlers, they are good for the Sheepshead. Shrimp is also a good bait for Sheepshead. Most anglers prefer using smaller Shrimp while fishing for Sheepshead. Natural colors on the drift are a good choice for the trout, so long as the water you’re fishing is clean. We have an incoming tide all day long and the Trout are feeding.

INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are biting in the mornings while Reds (Drum, Red) are becoming more prominent in the afternoon. Live Shrimp has been the key bait. Anglers are focusing on the lower bay so far with all the recent rain blowing out the upper rivers. Head to the ICW, creeks and rivers to avoid the wind as well. The fish will move back into the bay in the Spring.

INSHORE – The canal is on fire this week. The fishing is wide open for Redfish (Drum, Red), Sheepshead and Specks (Seatrout, Spotted). The Specks are everywhere. The best time of day to fish has been the early morning. Sheepshead are taking Fiddler Crabs and small Shrimp. Trout are loading up on artificials and live baits. They don’t seem to have a preference. Search for them on shorelines.

INSHORE – Artificials in the tidal rivers surrounding Mobile Bay have been productive. The rivers off of the Upper Bay are fishing better than those off the Lower Bay. As the temperature drops, we are slowing our presentation down, especially in deep water from 14-27 ft. Soft plastics on the bottom with a 3/8 oz jighead is key. Shallower rivers are producing better on hard baits such as suspending MirrOlures, Rattle Traps and Crankbaits. Slick Lures in Pearl White and Chartreuse is another great choice. Reds (Drum, Red) are turning up in great numbers throughout the morning during the falling tide. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are also out there. We hope to see this continue into next week.

INSHORE – If you are fishing the Perdido Pass around Alabama Point and Orange beach we are seeing Redfish (Drum, Red) on the bottom around the bridge. Get right down to the bottom using Shrimp during a moving tide. Sheepshead are there as well on the bottom. Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) and Black Snapper (Snapper, Gray) are in the deeper areas of Mobile Bay with structure such as reefs and concrete pilings. Trout are in 10-14 ft holes. They haven’t moved all the way up and with the good weather they are here. You can catch a good variety. Towards Fort Morgan the gas platforms are holding Sheepshead. There are huge sizes caught on the current. Search behind the poles as the fish avoid the current. The close platforms outside the gulf are covered in Sheepshead and Reds. Shrimp and Fiddler Crabs will hook them. Brown Shrimp is a good bait to bring with you. The pass around the jetties are holding Pompano (Pompano, Florida) that are taking Shrimp on a Pompano jig. It’s sometimes a bit rough to get out there. Top Gun Tackle has tons of great live bait this week! PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for additional angling tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – The Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin) bite is consistent when you can get out around the rigs this week. Petronas out to the Drillships has been a productive area. A lot of anglers are chunking hook them using live bait. You can certainly catch a few on the troll as well. A few nice Wahoo are being caught on the way in around the shelf. INSHORE – The Redfish (Drum, Red) and Sheepshead are continuing to bite into this week. Fiddler Crabs and live Shrimp are the key to hooking the Sheepshead. Tensaw River is a hot area to find the Reds while the Sheepshead are in the pass and holding up on structure. The Flounder (Flounder, Southern) bite is just about gone however you may see some stragglers around. A few White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) have still been caught in Terry Harbor. INSHORE – The wind has kept anglers inshore this week. We are seeing Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) in Mobile Bay and the Tensaw River area. The Flounder (Flounder, Southern) bite is slow. Sheepshead are great in the pass on Fiddler Crabs and live Shrimp. The Redfish (Drum, Red) will also continue to be caught. They are the best bite along with Sheepshead. Terry Cove Harbor is holding some great White Trout (Seatrout, Sand). They love small, artificial, white Grubs.

OFFSHORE – Once anglers can get offshore they can head to the rigs offshore for an incredible Tuna (Tuna, Blackfin & Tuna, Yellowfin) bite. They will have had no pressure on them lately. Chunk during the day for an easy bite.

INSHORE – Not a lot has changed into this week. We are still targeting Sheepshead and Redfish (Drum, Red). Reds are around the pass on Orange Beach. The bridge and jetties are holding Sheepshead along with all the rigs in Fort Morgan. Reds at the bridge pilings on the moving tide are taking live bait. Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and a few Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have been caught on the beach. Shrimp or Pompano jigs are hooking them. The Reds will be here all winter and will be easy to find around structure. The bigger sizes have followed the bait out of the river higher into Mobile Bay.

Daphne/Montrose Fishing Report

INSHORE – The terrible weather has not stopped anglers from catching the White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) this week. Most anglers have been heading around back to get some shelter from the wind. The Redfish (Drum, Red) bite has been decent however the challenge is getting out on the flats to be able to do it. Old River has been holding some nice Trout. They tend to pick up at this time of year. It’s still a bit early for Sheepshead and Flounder (Flounder, Southern). Up in Bon Secour River the bite is good for Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) and Reds. The bay is pretty torn up into this week. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish listed below the report for additional angling tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – No one has been able to get offshore at this point. Weather has been the problem the past few days. Normally we would expect to find Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin). The water temperature is great for Wahoo. Soon the cooler temperatures will eventually push the Wahoo out.

INSHORE – The weather and the low tides have made fishing a little tough here. If you stick to the rivers and creeks, there is a Trout (Seatrout, Spotted & Seatrout, Sand) bite happening. You’ll also find shelter from the wind. The numbers for Sand Trout are picking up as we roll into winter. Most of the Spotted Trout are small but there are a few bigger fish being caught. Your best bet will be to find moving water in the any of the tributaries to the Bay and put shrimp or soft plastics under a popping cork. Evenings have been a decent time to fish. Good luck out there.

Daphne/Montrose Fishing Report

INSHORE – Live shrimp fished down around the causeway and lower delta is still producing tons of fish, bass, Redfish (Drum, Red), and Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) (quantity-wise in that order). Good reports of crappie are being caught in the creeks on beetle-spins (e.g. Oak Bayou). The water temp is averaging somewhere in the mid-sixties, so everything is feeding hard to fatten up for the winter. Specks and Redfish are still around Dauphin Island, you just have to go up into the bayous and small creeks to find them. Dog river and fowl river are producing really well on shad pattern baits, MirrOlures, mirrodine, crank baits, swim-jigs, etc. Happy Thanksgiving & happy fishing!

INSHORE – This weekend should be lights-out fishing. The Specked Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are in the rivers, but not quite as strong as normal this time of year. They’re really spread thin. White Trout (Seatrout, Sand) are being caught in large number at the north pass area, where the Blakeley river dumps into the bay. The rivers Dog river, East/West Fowl river, and Bayou La Batre are all starting to ramp up with really good fish. They’re still also at the mouths of these rivers out on the oyster flats.

INSHORE – Bream fishing has been good in the upper delta. Bass fishing has really ramped up as well. Ribbit frogs, buzzbaits, and zera spooks are all great for your early-morning topwater fishing, then spinnerbaits, plastics, and swimbaits otherwise. Live Shrimp is still catching everything on the lower delta. Redfish (Drum, Red) are still showing up in huge numbers in the lower delta and below. The water temp is down to 75 so the Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) are getting up shallow. Look for your Trout on oyster shell flats. INSHORE – Slow tide movement this weekend and water temp is averaging around 78 degrees. The saltwater/brackish fish [Speckled Trout, Redfish (Drum, Red), Black Drum (Drum, Black), Sheepshead] are biting from the bottom of Mobile Bay all the way up past Gravine island. If you’re targeting Flounder (Flounder, Southern) stick to the lower end of the delta, around the causeway zone and south of there. Great reports of Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) being caught at the Dell Williamson Reef (LAT/LON:30.600333, -87.917667) on root-beer colored paddle tail or grub jigs. Dead and live Shrimp working in those locations. Check out Watermeat.com for full list of Mobile Bay area reef GPS locations. Good Bass are still being caught in the main river in the upper delta on soft plastics (senkos, lizards, crawfish), crankbaits and spinnerbaits. INSHORE – The water temp is still cooling off. Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) continue to be caught under the birds, north and south of the causeway. Also reports of schools of large (26 inch plus) Redfish (Drum, Red) under the birds out in the bay. Nice sized 3-4 lb Spanish Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) are being caught around Gaillard Island and at the Bender/Austal Reef (LAT/LON 30.52736,- 88.04795). Be sure to use a thick fluorocarbon leader (30-40 pound-test) for your Spanish Mackerel. Good reports of flounder in the lower delta (Raft River) on live Shrimp. Also, Black Drum (Drum, Black) and Redfish are being caught where the Apalachee River and Blakeley River meet, a short distance North of the causeway. Daphne/Montrose Fishing Report

INSHORE – Prior to the incoming weather conditions there has been a great Mobile bite! A nice amount of Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are being caught along the causeway. Shrimp are abundant right now, so live or imitation shrimp should work well fished on the bottom or under a popping cork. 3-5ft early morning, then deeper 6-8ft plus up in the heat of the day. The Bass (Largemouth) and Redfish (Drum, Red) bite has been great in the rivers and delta. If you’re fishing around grass, spinnerbaits work well along edges, or over the top of submerged grass. Crankbaits are also catching on points and ledges. I’ve been doing well fishing a white square-billed crankbait 3-5ft diving (silent). If you want an almost guaranteed bite, go night fishing around dock lights with a MirrOdine lure, paddle-tail jig, or shrimp bait. We hope to see this continue following the weather system.

Anglers are awaiting Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) and Triggerfish (Triggerfish, Gray) to open within the next few weeks. The Ajs have even been caught on the troll. There are already some keeper sizes.

BAIT REPORT – Small Sabikis can bring up Cigar Minnows past the buoy marker and 3 mile barge.

INSHORE – Anglers are focusing on the Flounder (Flounder, Southern) and Bull Reds (Drum, Red). The Reds are out on the bar and around the lighthouse. The outgoing and changing tide is holding the best Flounder in deep holes, structure and oyster beds. They are on the slack tide to the South. Tripletail seem to have slowed down a bit. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are slow on the South end of the bay but there are a few reports from the West in the Mississippi Sound and the markers. Shrimp is working best to hook them.

BAIT REPORT – There are a few Croaker swimming but bait is scarce for the most part.

INSHORE – The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has been a little slow this week. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) has been doing well on the slack tides. You’ll want to be near structure in 4-5ft of water with any kind of live Minnow or over structure in 14-15ft of water with Bull Minnows. There hasn’t been too many keeper sized Redfish (Drum, Red) around but there are some Bull Reds out by the lighthouse on moving tide. Triple tail has been doing well in the middle of the day on any kind of floating structure.

INSHORE – The bay has been hit and miss this week. The North end is better than the South. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are hitting but they are getting smaller. Redfish (Drum, Red) are beginning to show up and the sizes are great. Anglers are drifting big live bait such as Croaker and Alewives. The early morning topwater bite has been best before the temperature heats up. Outgoing tide is most productive.

INSHORE – Some Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and a few Redfish (Drum, Red) are being caught in the stumps and in the grass. Anglers have had success catching Trout with slip corks in addition to free lining Croakers. There have been a lot of fish near the north end of the bay and a few roe Trout down on the south end that you can catch with some Croakers – Croakers are a must for catching them. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are also found around the beach side that can be caught with Bull Minnows and jigs. From now until the middle of June, this type of fishing is going to remain relatively the same in this area. The salinity is a little high due to the lack of rainwater but it is still fairly decent. During these times of high salinity, most fish gravitate towards the north part of the bay.

We have been catching some Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) and Reds (Drum, Red) lately in south end of Mobile Bay and the creeks that feed into it. Water is fresh in the Mobile Tensaw Delta. Clouser minnows are still very productive. Fish them as slow as you can. Reds are in the feeder creeks for the winter.

They are hitting live Fiddler Crabs, Bull Minnows as well as live and dead Shrimp. As far as lures go the DOAs are working well for the Trout and Reds. Vudu Shrimp by Egret in yellow is also a great alternative and a hot bait for most anglers. We hope to see weather clear up soon for anglers to get out on the water.

INSHORE – The season is beginning to slow down now. There have been some reports of Bull Reds (Drum, Red) in the canal. Dog River has also been producing Seatrout, Sand. Anglers have been using both live and dead Shrimp to hook them and finding them very effective. Jigs and rattle traps have been the most productive setup. The bite is expected to increase once the temperature drops a little bit more.

OFFSHORE – Similar to last week the Tuna, Blackfin have continued to bite around the 70 mile mark. Most anglers have been catching them on the troll using Porgie or Bonito chunks or even some live Hardtails. The Wahoo bite has calmed down and become fairly spotty at this point. Capt. INSHORE – There has been a mixed bag of fish swimming inshore despite the weather here lately. Reports have come in with lots of Sheepshead and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted, Seatrout, Sand) swimming and hitting live Shrimp on jigs as well as rattle traps. There have been a ton of Redfish (Drum, Red) swimming as well hitting anything live, however mainly Shrimp being that is what is running. As the temperatures continue to drop the bite is expected to increase.

OFFSHORE – Tuna, Blackfin have been great in this area lately although most anglers have not been heading out due to unfavorable weather. Those who do make it on the water are heading out 70 miles and more to troll in the morning and chunk at night. They are using Porgie or Bonito chunks as well as some live Hardtails bait to hook Tuna. There have also been reports of a few Wahoo as well as anglers are high speed trolling. Daphne/Montrose Fishing Report

INSHORE – Despite the weather there are still a few species biting inshore. Sheepshead have been on Fiddler Crabs and Live Shrimp. There have also been Trout (Seatrout, Sand & Seatrout, Spotted) as the temperatures have dropped enough for the them to begin to move in. The bite is expected to to get better over the next month or so as the seasonal weather sets in. Redfish (Drum, Red) have also had a pretty good bite as the sizes have improved. Both slot and Bull Reds are biting well. All three of these species are hitting live bait as well as grubs.

OFFSHORE – Weather conditions have deterred many anglers from heading offshore this week. As Snapper is closed anglers who head out are mainly bottom fishing with Squid for Triggerfish. If conditions lay down and anglers decide to head to the deeper water they can always consult our Tips feature which provides additional suggestions and information that could help improve the catch. Alternatively Deer River Bait and Tackle can provide an up to the minute fishing report if anglers have managed to make their way out.

INSHORE – There are quite a few slot Reds (Drum, Red) biting right now although the Bull Reds have become more scattered. They are eating Menhaden and live Shrimp. Incoming or outgoing tide has not made a difference however the Reds seem to be hitting at either sunrise or sunset. The rain has scattered most of the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) so anglers will have to cover lots of water to find them.

OFFSHORE – Due to weather conditions being less than ideal it there are no reports from anglers heading offshore this past week. We expect to have some great reports when the weather lies down. If you decide to head out this weekend you can always check out our Tips feature which provides more information that could help to improve your catch.

INSHORE – With all the Pogies running around there’s been a couple big schools of Jack Crevalle in about 10 feet of water with some Bull Reds mixed in. The Redfish have been biting well in the mornings and late afternoon. Best thing to use right is definitely Pogies. There’s some Flounder around the beaches and they are chasing any of the Finger Mullet they can find. Flounder love Finger Mullet so if you can put one in front of them, they’ll have a hard time turning it down. Tripletail have been spotty, but on the good days they can wear you out.

BAIT REPORT – Pogies are reportedly very thick through all of Mobile Bay. Just about anywhere you go, you can find Pogies. The Finger Mullet have thinned out a bit. There’s some white shrimp moving in.

The bay has been fairly salty again and there’s been a quite a few Spanish Mackerel in there chasing Finger Mullet and Croakers. Given the amount of Finger Mullet around, it’d definitely be worth loading up and running the bay for some Spanish.

INSHORE – Summer is certainly still hot in Mobile Bay. Captain Sonny Dean over at Crooked Hook Charters says you if you can get early in the morning you can find some trout. As always, Trout can’t resist a shrimp dropped on their nose. If you can find the deeper holes, there should be fish in them. The fishing has been tough due to the heat. INSHORE – It is the usual summer pattern here in Mobile Bay. I spoke to Captain Sonny Dean over at Crooked Hook Charters again and he has told me that the Trout are still biting despite the sweltering heat. They are even in the shallows! As we have mentioned before, Trout can not resist a well presented live shrimp. This time of year try fishing with baits on the top and bottom. The piers over on the banks and the gas rig in the deep water all have fish on them. Fishing is average right now, but you can still have an excellent day. The wind we had last week stirred up the bay and the water clarity was terrible, but things are looking like they normally do now.

BAIT REPORT – Bait is everywhere right now. The Pogies are super thick and the Finger Mullet are all over the places. There is a reason the Seagulls look so fat.

OFFSHORE – Offshore fishing is just terrible for the whole state right now because the rain has muddied up the water out to 130 miles.

INSHORE – The fishing in the bay is below average right now. Captain Sonny over at Crooked hook charters has been catching some Tripletail. The Trout were good but have since slowed down. The rain has just muddied everything up. Usually in muddier waters you want to use brighter lures like a new penny or chartreuse, however, Captain Sonny swears by natural bait – especially shrimp and finger mullet. The fish tend to feed around the old torn down docks, so look for them there.

BAIT REPORT – There are plenty of Finger Mullet and Pinfish around, and they are finally big enough to use.

In the Bay – Captain Sonny Dean over at Crooked Hook Charters had some great Trout biting Monday all over the bay. He is still bringing in the Redfish. The Tripletail turned off for him halfway through the week, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t out there. Live Shrimp has been working really well but the Finger Mullet is finally big enough to be used. Try fishing the edges of the grass or the deep water reef out in the middle of the bay. Those spots usually work well for him. Remember, the best time to go fishing is when you can.

Live shrimp are the top bait of choice any angler worth their salt in Mobile Bay and will always produce strikes. When targeting these aggressive sport fish, structure is a great place to start so look for reefs or channel markers. Moving tides are another key to a successful outing on Mobile Bay and either incoming or outgoing tides are good.

Captain Sonny adds seagulls are usually the fish but that can include trash fish like the Hard Headed Catfish. That variety of catfish have 3 bacteria infected spines that can cause serious discomfort if pricked by one. One on-the-water tip if you wind up pricked by one is to rub the slime off of fish’s belly to relieve the discomfort.

BAIT REPORT – Captain Sonny says there are Menhaden in Mobile Bay and the recently hatched Finger Mullet are almost big enough to use as bait if you need to but Shrimp remains the top choice.

Daphne / Montrose Fishing Report

INSHORE –In Mobile Bay the bite has been slow. The water is turgid, especially towards the mouth of the river. If you go further out you’ll find that the water gets clearer. Once you’re out past Gaillard Island the water should be a lot clearer. If you can find clear water you’ll be able to get a good bite for Flounder. The Flounder are biting well on Bull Minnows. The Piers and Dock have also been good. Try picking up some live shrimp from Deer River Bait and Tackle, it is good for everything.

BAIT REPORT – There is not much bait around right now.
