Corpus Christi Fishing Report

INSHORE – Strong wind has made fishing tough however Oasis Bay is holding well around the fish habitat. Anglers are finding a good Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) bite mixed with a few Black Drum (Drum, Black). They are taking dead Shrimp on the bottom. Around Ingleside there have also been a few nice Trout hooked while casting Shrimp under a cork or freelining Shrimp. Work the edges for the best bite, the birds will give the fish away. Numbers are great so far. Towards Portland Causeway we are seeing Trout and Reds under the lights. You will find the best bite at night using Glow or Chartreuse soft plastics or Shrimp under a popping cork.

Corpus Christi Fishing Report

INSHORE – Despite the tough winds in the area we are still finding a good bite inshore. Oasis Bay is holding both Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red). Look for them in 2 to 3 feet of water, and finding the green water is key. When you can find some windows where the wind is calm you should be able to hook up to some nice fish over the weekend using a popping cork or live Shrimp. Towards the Portland Shoreline the Trout are great behind the boat parking area. Anglers are casting freelined Shrimp in the guts and sandbars. We are also seeing a few Flounder (Flounder, Southern) show up as well. Fish them in 3-4 feet of water. Towards the Naval base the Trout and Reds continue to do well, especially over the NAS bridge. The flats are holding good sized Reds taking Finger Mullet and Shrimp under a popping cork. Paddletails are a good soft plastic alternative.

Corpus Christi Fishing Report

INSHORE – Things are beginning to liven up now that the Spring Breakers are gone and the pressure has subsided. Towards the North end of Oasis Bay there have been great Reds (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) biting around the new estuary development. They are taking live Shrimp or Finger Mullet. Soft plastics in dark colors are great alterntives along with topwater lures when you can find areas with bait running. Along the North Shoreline there has been a good Trout bite for anglers throwing paddletails and corkies in dark colors. Paddletails are also working well. Around the bridges anglers are catching Sheepshead and Drum in great numbers. Trout are also moving through taking live Shrimp. Wade fishing behind the university has been productive in waist deep water. There have been great catches of both Redfish and Trout.

Corpus Christi Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Corpus Christi and Nueces Bay area is holding a great bite into this week. The channels are firing up with the recent cold fronts and the bait is moving in. This means the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Reds (Drum, Red) are following. Troll the edges of the channel for the best bite. If you can make it to the North end of Oasis Bay fish the pockets that are green and clean from the strong North Wind. Anglers are finding Trout and scattered Reds along the Shoreline. The sizes are great and they are preferring Paddletails or Corkies. Towards Ennis Joslin there are some nice Reds holding up. High tides and the recent rain have dumped water adn bait into the area so the Reds are preferring dark plastics, cut Mullet or cut Skipjack. We hope to see this continue into the weekend.

INSHORE – Throughout the flats we are seeing nice Reds (Drum, Red) taking artificial Shrimp in natural colors such as tan. Zman Trout tricks in Fried Chicken are doing well. The fish are right below the surface this week. Dropoffs are key for Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). The North shore in particular is producing good Trout with a few Reds. Paddle Tails in Key Lime are working well. You can wade fish or drift behind the boat. Big Drum (Drum, Black) are swimming the pass taking Shrimp at night. They are also swimming the ICW. Trout are mixed in. Bridges are holding Drum, Sheepshead, scattered Trout and Reds. This is a great area when the wind is blowing.

INSHORE – The channels are holding Black Drum (Drum, Black) in huge sizes. Redfish (Drum, Red) are scattered but when you find them they are usually in small schools so if you find one you’ll find a few. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are in the grassy areas. They are more active in the middle of the day when the sun comes up and warms the water. Paul Brown Corgis are a great setup along with Gulp in New Penny or Chartreuse. This will work for Redfish as well. Use it with a leadhead either eighth or sixteenth ounce.

The surf is also producing some great Trout that can be hooked on Croakers or Mullet. They are being caught up through Baffin Bay as well however the fish in this area are loving topwaters and soft plastics around the rocks and grassy areas. We are also seeing some reports of Redfish (Drum, Red) come in. They are holding up in the potholes and will take Shrimp. Baffin Bay is also producing Redfish this week. Search in about 2 ft of water to find them on topwaters and gold spoons. They will be swimming the sandy areas. Anglers can also try drifting topwaters above the potholes if they are hiding. Live Shrimp will do the trick.
