Clearwater Fishing Report

INSHORE – Despite the wind anglers are still able to make it on the water during weather windows this week. Redfish and Trout are the usual contenders making an appearance for anglers so far. Reds are schooled up, especially towards Sarasota, but are becoming more scattered once we reach Tampa. Searching shallower water will be the key to finding them. The Trout on the other hand seem to be just about everywhere and ready to take a live Shrimp or an artificial such as MirrOlure. Snook are consistent into this week. Passes and beaches are holding the best sizes. There are a few Pompano that may be caught as bycatches on the beaches. They aren’t picky in terms of what they are eating, so anglers heading out shouldn’t have a problem loading up. Structure is holding the typical Snapper and Sheepshead up to 15 miles out. This comes as no surprise to most anglers. Beyond this Kings are beginning to make their way in close and should progress on this trail throughout the season.

OFFSHORE – The weather has made fishing tough into this week however when anglers are able to make it offshore they are finding a decent bite of typical, seasonal fish. The bottom bite is producing Grouper (don’t forget to check your Pro Angler App for updated regulations) and Snapper beginning in 30 feet of water. There hasn’t been many anglers heading farther offshore however Kings, Spanish and Cobia are a bit more accessible for anglers this week. Searching the causeway and trolling live bait has been the ticket to hook Kings up to 20 pounds out of Clearwater. The farther out you can go the better the sizes will be however there are a few smokers mixed in the bunch. You’ll find the Spanish are schooled up so when you find one you’ll likely find many. If you find anglers are chumming, they are likely targeting Cobia in areas like Sarasota. A bit of chum and some live bait is a killer combination to land them from the reefs. We hope to see these fish fire up once conditions are improved.

INSHORE – The bite is fairly typical for this time of year. On the flats we are seeing some Cobia. They have been caught around Anclote. Small Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are swimming with few keepers. Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) are on the flats. Snook (Snook, Common) and Redfish (Drum, Red) are inshore.

OFFSHORE – There is still some decent action offshore this week. Grunts (Grunt, White) and Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) are swimming near shore. Farther out the Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) and keeper Red Grouper (Grouper, Red) have been caught. Sharks are beginning to move in.

BAIT REPORT – There is plenty of Whitebait around.

Clearwater Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Pompano bite is really hot right now along the jetties of John’s Pass and the beaches however it is a bit scattered towards Sarasota and thicker towards Clearwater. These Pompano are great eating too, and bite best in the early morning or just before dark. The Snook action has been hit and miss, they really fire up but then as quickly as they start it ends. We’ve seen some monsters caught inside the passes along the beaches. The Mackerel have made their way into the bay and around bridges.
Trout, Snook, Tarpon and Redfish are beginning to get fat again. Reds can be found chasing bait around mouths of rivers and particularly in Longboat taking Shrimp. Trout are more preferring artificials such as MirrOdines, Vudu Shrimp and DOA Shrimp. Sheepshead and Drum have been caught on structure taking Fiddler Crabs or Shrimp on a knocker rig.

OFFSHORE – There is something to catch just about everywhere offshore this week. From 50-70 feet offshore there have been great catches of both Kings and Cobia. We are seeing them consistently caught from Sarasota to Homosassa.
On the bottom, the Grouper and Snapper are doing extremely well, although keep in mind what regulations are in place for them. Grouper can be targeted with Shrimp or Squid while Snapper prefer Sardines or Whitebait while chumming heavy. Ajs are providing a great catch and release bite for anglers out for some fun.

Clearwater Fishing Report

INSHORE – Nothing is out of the ordinary so far this week. Although the bite is typical we can’t argue with how good it’s been. As Snook are swimming the rivers anglers are targeting them under the lights and also around passes. Keep an eye out as they will make their way to the beaches very soon in the Clearwater area.
Redfish and Trout are almost a never-fail catch. Slot Reds are loving areas such as Terra Ceia or around spoil islands. Trout are opposingly in deeper waters around edges of the grass flats, spoil islands and occasionally running flats on the beach for warm water pockets. The occasional Pompano and Spanish Mackerel are also on the beaches.

OFFSHORE – The variety of fish is improving this week. Anglers are finding fish nearshore, offshore on the bottom, just about everywhere! If you can find a weather window to head farther offshore the Tuna bite is turning on. Blackfin can be found roughly 30 miles out of Sarasota while if we look to St. Petersburg the Yellowfin are active farther on the long range overnight trips. Moving closer in, the Kings are biting well. A few of them can be caught mixed in with offshore Tuna however most of them are more towards the shipping channel areas chasing live bait. Of course, Cobia aren’t far behind as they are even closer holding up on nearshore wrecks and reefs.
The typical bottom bite is nothing new for anglers in the area. Snapper are beginning to gear up for an aggressive feeding coming very soon. The sizes are expected to be great. Grouper and Hogfish are consistently turning up while specifically targeting them, especially in the Clearwater area. Scattered Sea Bass and Grunts may be caught as well.

Clearwater Fishing Report

INSHORE – Snook have a been a little difficult to find in keeper sizes. There has been a lot of catch and release angling from Sarasota up in to Tampa. Try to find moving water and fish to structure just before high or low tide as they move out to feed. Bluefish, Ladyfish and Jacks have been a common bycatch out of the Sarasota area. Trout fishing has been just ok. If you were to pick only one place to Trout fish this week, you might best head to Sarasota where you will also have the opportunity to hook some Flounder while fishing with MirrOlures oddly enough. Redfish have been steady across Florida’s Central West coast. They are especially moving well down the river with Snook near Clearwater and caught or the oyster bars up in Homosassa. Tarpon have been heating up in Tampa Bay. Cobia anglers out of Hudson have been catching fish on the Flats.

OFFSHORE – We’re still waiting for King Mackerel to show up here. There is a decent Grouper and Snapper bite on the days you can get out around 10 miles. Best baits to take this week are Sardines and Squid. The Grouper off of Clearwater have been particular to Pinfish. There is also a worthwhile amount of Amberjack on structure off of Hudson.

Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Snook bite has been HOT HOT HOT just about everywhere through Florida’s Central-West coast. Tide direction hasn’t affected the bite, just as long as there’s moving water. There will also be Redfish mixed in with the Snook. Redfish have been a little sporadic to the south, they improve around the west side of Tampa on Greenbacks or cut bait such as Pinfish. You can find them schooled up on both low tide and high tide. Trout fishing has been fairly decent through the day. There has even been a lot of Trout taken on Rapala Topwaters. Pompano anglers have been finding most of their action coming from sandbars in Tampa Bay while throwing jigs.

Amberjack have been hauled off of bottom structure much closer in while Sheepshead have been on the nearshore structures. There has been a lot of Kingfish around St. Petersburg, we expect this to pick up as the warmer weather comes.

The Redfish are still a bit scattered at this point but if you put some time in anglers should be able to find a few decent fish. Live bait has been the ticket to catch them, with a select few artificials including Spoons and soft plastics in Shrimp patterns working well. Trout can be found in any of the shallower areas from Sarasota all the way down to Homosassa.
Snook are fairly consistent this week as well. They seem to be taking just about everything, however live bait at night is producing well. Sheepshead are beginning to really fire up on structure as usual. In St. Petersburg there are a few reports of Flounder mixed in. They are preferring live bait.
On the surf anglers are finding Pompano here and there.

OFFSHORE – Everything is in close this week. Blackfin Tuna are holding up in the deeper Springs this week and can be caught trolling with artificials. On the bottom the Amberjack and Grouper are biting in the same depths. Ajs have had the most consistent bite down the coast this week. As usual, structure is the best place to search for them.
A bit closer in we are finding a productive bite of Snapper, Hogfish and Grunts. The variety of Snapper include Muttons, Lanes and Mangroves. The numbers were great prior to the recent weather and we expect they should pick back up. When anglers can make it farther offshore the bite of Vermilion and Yellowtail Snapper are putting up a good fight.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – From inside Tampa Bay out to John’s Pass there is a good Sheepshead bite. Trout are found near inshore troughs during low tides on Shrimp or Greenbacks fished under a popping cork. The best reports on Snook have come from Sarasota over to St. Petersburg. Live baits such as Pinfish or Shrimp will work well to hook them. Inshore anglers targeting Redfish have had the most success off of docks in the rivers, oyster beds throughout intracoastal waterways. The flats around New Port Richey as well as up near Homosassa will provide anglers with a decent Redfish bite on cut bait and Pinfish.
It’s worth making the trip to Sarasota as the Skyway bridge has been offering up some Cobia.


OFFSHORE – The gulf of Mexico has been kind to offshore boats this week. Amberjack have been fishing well on wrecks for anyone using Sardines. If you are headed out of St. Pete’s, target wrecks in 100 ft of water. Out of New Port Richey you will want to be fishing in 50-80 ft. There will also be an assortment of Grouper and Snapper here as well. Yellowtail Snapper have been biting well on structure in the 30 mile range.
From 7-15 miles, anglers in this region can expect to find Hogfish as well as some small Grouper and Snapper. Triggerfish are spread out on reefs and wrecks as you fish your way into the gulf. Keep in mind that they are catch and release at this time. Nearshore trolling with soft plastics has been productive for King Mackerel.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Fishing is slow with the weather change. Sheepshead are in the rivers and outside the river on rock piles. Fiddler Crabs are working well to hook them. There are some small Redfish (Drum, Red) around the Power Plant as well as on the islands in the shallow waters by the mangroves. Small Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) from 18-20 inches have been hooked as well. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are hit or miss off the Power Plant. Anglers are using jigs to catch them. Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Winter time is a good time. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are moving into the gulf and around Honeymoon Island and Dunedin Causeway. They are right on the surf chasing Sand Fleas and Crabs. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Snook (Snook, Common) are doing well in the causeway, bay and gulf. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) is improving on the gulf around Sand Key and Honeymoon. Straggler Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) are swimming. Grouper has been caught around the Skyway bridge. They are up to 20 lbs. OFFSHORE – Normally Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red) are hitting well offshore at this time of year. You can find them on the bottom mixed with Snapper (Snapper, Red & Snapper, Vermillion). With all of the recent weather it has been difficult for anglers to get out.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Big Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and lots of Silver Trout (Seatrout, Silver) are all over the nearshore grass flats. They are taking mostly big, live Shrimp under a popping cork early in the day. Later in the day jig and tail combos are more productive. Along the mangrove shorelines and oyster bars the Reds (Drum, Red) are going nuts and are schooled up big time. The water didn’t get very cold though. They are taking fresh, cut Pinfish on the bottom throughout the day or early in the morning on MirrOlures or Spooks. There are still plenty of Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) around. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are hitting off the beach. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are biting well off of the bridges. Sheepshead can also be caught since they are mixed in. There are some good sized Sheepshead being caught. Snook (Snook, Common) have gone up the creeks and rivers. They are more difficult to find and catch this time of year. OFFSHORE – Grouper (Grouper, Gag) are so thick you can walk on them although Gags are catch and release only. Reds (Grouper, Red) are swimming the hard bottom. Lots of Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) are on the deeper wrecks. Search 60-80 ft to find them.

INSHORE – The water temperature has the fish a bit mixed up. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) and Permit can be caught in front of the power plant. Fred Howard park is holding Redfish (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) are biting with the warmer weather. Anclote River is holding Redfish, small Snook (Snook, Common) and Trout on the flats around Honeymoon island. Search the shallow water grass areas to find them. Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Inshore has been a bit slow this week. There have been Redfish (Drum, Red) taking 3 inch New Penny Gulp with a variety of weighted jigheads. The Snook (Snook, Common) bite is decent. They are better where you can find warmer water. Freshwater creeks running up and down the intracoastal and the docks off of Belleair are hot areas. Oyster beds off the Spoil Islands off of the causeway are great as well. There is a decent Redfish bite to the North East. Seatrout (Seatrout, Spotted) were doing well in the deeper holes off the smaller spoil islands. Thanks for another great year anglers! OFFSHORE – The Hogfish are hot offshore in 25-30 ft of water. They are hitting small knocker rigs with 2/O hooks and live cut Shrimp. Gags (Grouper, Gag) have been off. They are preferring live Pinfish or Sardines when you do finally catch them. They have been able to pull some Red Grouper (Grouper, Red) on Pinfish and Sardines. Naked Ball jigs with chartreuse or white feathers have also been productive. Kingfish (Mackerel, King) and Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) have been heavy this week. They are taking spoons or floating, frozen Sardine. Kingfish rigs are working as well to hook them.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Big Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are coming in like crazy. Big Live Shrimp and jigging tail combos particularly Gulp are working well to hook them. Silver Trout (Seatrout, Silver) are mixed in. They are not huge but the numbers are good. Really nice Reds (Drum, Red) are being caught and there are plenty of Flounder (Flounder, Southern). They are on fire preferring White Bucktails, White jigging tail combos and live Shrimp. Reds are eating anything all over the place. Sheepshead on the bridges and pilings are taking Fiddler Crabs and live Shrimp. Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish). and Tripletail are gone. Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) are still around. Anglers are searching for them using Plugs. Birds and bait are giving away their location. Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) have been in heavy. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are swimming at the power plant. Pompano Jigs or Doc’s Goofy Jigs are productive presentations. They are biting all throughout the day. Redfish (Drum, Red) are doing well. Snook (Snook, Common) are moving into the Anclote River. Creek Chubs and Pinfish are doing well to hook them. The new Live Target soft plastic Pinfish and Threadfin Herring are killer patterns for the Snook. Flare Tail Hawks are producing around the bridges. INSHORE – Cooler temperatures have produced a lot of Gator Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). Snook (Snook, Common) are still biting and still aggressive. Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) are still in despite the cold. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are still on as well. Search the Dunedin Causeway on the grass flats.

OFFSHORE – Hogfish and Red Grouper (Grouper, Red) are still turning up on near and offshore structures. Take a look at some of the in-app hotspots and try out some new numbers.

INSHORE – Nice Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are turning up this week. The Snook (Snook, Common) bite is still on and anglers are hooking a few good fish. On the beach side we are seeing tons of Trout (Seatrout, Silver). Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) are still in with Kingfish (Mackerel, King) and Tarpon. They are taking Spoons about 2 miles to 6 miles out. The inside of Sand Key Bridge and the Causeway have been great areas to search for fish.

OFFSHORE – 8 Miles out the keeper Hogfish and Grouper (Grouper, Red) are biting well on Squirrelfish. You can also find them at 12 miles out.

INSHORE – Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) have been biting well on the flats and passes. Redfish (Drum, Red) are thick at the oyster bars, creek mouths and Mangrove Point. Snook (Snook, Common) are moving into the river for the Winter pattern. Sheepshead are moving in with the recent cold front. Shrimp is working well to catch most fish. Cobia are on the flats. INSHORE – Things have lit up this week. We are seeing big Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) on the grass flats. Silver Trout (Seatrout, Silver) are in the same areas. Flounder (Flounder, Flounder) are in the potholes. You can also catch them at the bridges and rocks. There are good catches of Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) on the beach, passes and bridges. Redfish (Drum, Red) are schooling along the oyster bars and mangrove lines. They are usually found in 1-2 ft of water. Sheepshead are on bridges and dock pilings. OFFSHORE – The Grouper (Grouper, Red) bite is on fire this week. Most anglers are starting in 20 ft and going out. Gags (Grouper, Gag) are still in season and people are catching them. They are so thick you can walk on them! It’s been pretty easy to get limits. Kingfish (Mackerel, King) are going crazy. The bigger Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) are out with them on the reefs and hardbottom.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Cobia are spotty into this week. Redfish (Drum, Red) are in the shallows, around the mangroves and up into the river. They have slowed down a little bit. Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) are running strong. Kings (Mackerel, King) have moved through but we expect them to move out once the temperature drops. Cigar Minnows or trolling with Stretches will work well for Kings. Rigged Ballyhoo is a great alternative. New Gear has arrived! Stop in and check it out! OFFSHORE – Not a lot has changed from last week. We are still seeing Grouper (Grouper, Gag) biting offshore. They are at about 30 ft and will move closer as the cold fronts move in. You can troll with diving lures or vertical jig for them. Frozen bait or live Pinfish will also hook them.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Redfish (Drum, Red) are in the shallows by the mangroves as well as up the river. Snook (Snook, Common) are on the points of the isles and the cuts. Plenty of Spanish are on the flats. A few Pompano (Pompano, Florida) have been caught at the power plant. The occasional Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are being caught. The bigger sizes are scattered but there are plenty of small sizes. There are tons of Sharks (Shark, Blacktip and Shark, Sandbar) between Fred Howard and the Power Plant. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below for additional tips and tricks!

OFFSHORE – Grunt (Grunt, White) and Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) are in 20 ft or more. Keeper Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red) are from 40-60 ft. Soon we will see keeper Gags in roughly 30 ft of water. Cobia are swimming the structures and ledges offshore in 60 ft.

INSHORE – Inshore is on fire. Redfish (Drum, Red) are all over the place. Snook (Snook, Common) are close to the mouth of the river and up into the river. They are still around the bridges close to the shoreline as well. Seatrout (Seatrout, Spotted) are plentiful. Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) are beginning to show up. They are running through the Anclote pier fairly heavy. Tsunami Floating Talking Poppers are best in Electric School Bus or Black and Silver Halo. INSHORE – The Redfish (Drum, Red) has been great on the higher tide. The past month has had an insane Redfish bite. The fall run is in full swing. INSHORE – Redfish (Drum, Red) have been biting Shrimp. You can live line them around bridges. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are biting at night along with Redfish. There hasn’t been much on Flounder (Flounder, Southern) lately. Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) are showing up and taking Spoons or Gotcha Rigs. Anglers are Walking the Dog to hook them. INSHORE – The action since the storm has turned over the water and everything is biting. Reds (Drum, Red) are schooling up and following Mullet schools. Find the Mullet to find the Reds. They are on the mainland side on the shallows between Dunedin and Clearwater and on the backside around Honeymoon and Caladesi Island. Big Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are being caught. Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) are also running through. Sharks are biting well (Shark, Blacktip & Shark, Bonnethead) using Bonita and Mullet. Tripletail have been showing up along the intracoastal markers. Follow the trail of markers and drop anchor next to one. They prefer Shrimp near the bottom. They are biting like crazy. There are some nice keepers. Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) are all over the place, especially along the bridges and the causeway. Snook (Snook, Common) are running hard in the passes and Spoil islands. They are 40 or more inches. They are hitting live Grunts. OFFSHORE – The Grouper are so thick you can walk in them. They are starting at 40 ft and working out to 80. Red Grouper (Grouper, Red) are all over the hard bottom. Gags (Grouper, Gag) are on the ledges, wrecks and rock piles. There are also tons of Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater). The sizes are great so far and they are sometimes taking the Grouper bait before it hits bottom. Kings (Mackerel, King) are just starting to come in. They aren’t huge yet, most are around 10-20 lbs. They are coming through the artificial reefs up to shore. A bunch of Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish) have been reported running through the Dunedin reef as well!

INSHORE – A lot of Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) are hanging around the rock piles around bridges or jetties. Search 4 ft of water on a moving tide using small whitebait or Shrimp. Stick to the live bait, but even cut Greenbacks will work. The Snook (Snook, Common) bite is awesome right now. They are not picky on bait. Look around bridges or flats in shallow tides and channels. They are pushing off the beach as they are finished breeding. When fishing the beach, use bigger baits such as a 5-6 inch Grunt or Pinfish to catch Snook. Grunts eat fish eggs so Snook will hit them out of aggression even if they’re not hungry. They just want to kill it. Redfish (Drum, Red) are moving around and still schooling up. With this heat, fish the high tide in the morning in deeper water. If you get a good water movement, a 3.3 or 3.2 tide, it works out quite well. They will push up under the mangroves so whitebait or plugs in the morning will be key. In the heat of the day cut whitebait will work under the mangroves. INSHORE – We would love to provide anglers with a report this week however anglers have mostly stayed off the water. There were some reports of Snook (Snook, Common) that were biting prior to the system. We hope to see the bite fire back up once conditions settle down. Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – The fishing has kind of backed off a bit however the morning Snook bite on the outgoing tide is productive. Search the Honeymoon area while free lining big Grunts or Pinfish. Snook (Snook, Common) are moving into the passes which is typical of the late season. Crystal beach is holding some good fish too. Redfish (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are mixed in the areas. Cut Pinfish or live Pinfish and Grunts on a cork will be a great setup to hook them. Tarpon are biting off the beach. In the backwater we are seeing Tarpon taking Shad off the bottom. There are plenty of Sharks on the inside, outside and off the beaches. The jetties were holding Snook and Redfish on the incoming tide. On the outgoing tide on the South Jetty is a great place to start. OFFSHORE – Anglers willing to make the run to 150 ft of water are seeing a lot of Wahoo and Dolphin while trolling Tormentor Lures or similar setup. You need to cover water with Black/purple, purple/blue and chartreuse/green for your colors. Blackfin are turning up as well. Nice Gags (Grouper, Gag) and big Mangroves (Snapper, Gray), Cubera (Snapper, Cubera) and Red Grouper (Grouper, Red) are turning up. Gags are from 45 ft out. Hogfish are plentiful to 60 ft fishing patch bottom. Live Pinfish, Grunts, Cigar Minnows and Threadfins will work.

INSHORE – There has been a lot of rain in the area lately. Focus on the freshwater runoffs and anywhere that has freshwater flowing to find a lot of Snook (Snook, Common). The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) will drop more into the Northern part of St. Josephs Sound or the passes for the salty water. Find the best moving tide for the best fish. Closer to the pass is a good area along with the Crystal River docks for Snook, Redfish (Drum, Red) and Trout. OFFSHORE – Anglers will have to travel from 70 ft and out for the next few weeks to find Gags (Grouper, Gag)

BAIT REPORT – A lot of Scaled Sardines are on the beach. Shrimp, Pigfish and Pinfish are also around. Pilchards and Threadfins are right on the beach. Threadfins are in schools outside and on the markers in Clearwater Harbor and Anclote.

INSHORE – It has been a bit rough and tough lately as the water is hot. Anglers are catching a lot of Drum (Drum, Black). This is typical of the season. Shrimp and Pinfish have been great to hook them. Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) is another hot bite. There are still some Snook (Snook, Common) and Redfish (Drum, Red) but they are on the smaller end. Grunts are the best bait for the Snook. Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are always around. INSHORE – It’s been so hot that the fish are pretty slow. Not a lot has changed from last week. There is still a good Tarpon bite. Anglers are night fishing for the Snook (Snook, Common) off Dog Beach on the South end. There are some Tarpon here as well. During the day the same area is holding some great Redfish (Drum, Red). They are also around the Spoil Island and Honeymoon. You can search docks for them. Cut bait is working well. Seatrout (Seatrout, Spotted) also continue to bite. OFFSHORE – A lot of anglers running deeper are getting a lot of Wahoo, Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) and Grouper (Grouper, Gag) from 110 ft out. A lot of Mangroves are turning up with Yellowtail (Snapper, Gray & Snapper, Yellowtail). They are finding them to the South. A lot of Red Grouper (Grouper, Red) are hitting and Gags (Grouper, Gag) are close in around 40 ft.

INSHORE – On the North end of Honeymoon anglers are hooking tons of Pompano (Pompano, Florida) on Crazy Jigs or 3 inch Turbo Shad with a white tail on a quarter oz jighead. A lot of Snook (Snook, Common) are off the beaches. Grunts, Pinfish and Whitebait are being used to sight fish. MirrOlure 17MR in color 21 or 18 are the best artificials. Redfish (Drum, Red) are around the back side of Honeymoon and the Spoil Islands. Cut Pinfish, Threadfins or Ladyfish are productive. They are fishing the last hour of the incoming or the last two hours of the outgoing to find them. Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are everywhere. Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Anglers have been doing well at night on the pier looking for Redfish (Drum, Red). Around Howard Park there has been some nice Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Snook (Snook, Common). At the mouth of the river there are lots of Snook and keeper Snapper (Snapper, Gray). Towards the key we are finding big Snook and even a couple Tarpon have been caught. Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – There are a lot of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) being caught. Anglers are almost tired of catching them! The sizes are decent as you rotate your sizes out. Redfish (Drum, Red) are showing up on the beachfront in the morning. Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are still being caught in decent sizes around the mangroves. Spros on a teaser rig has been productive. Using a Fluking style has been great. Sheepshead are around the bridge pilings and docks. There have been little reports of Cobia. Sharks (Shark, Bonnethead & Shark, H.H. – Great) are thick by the bridge near Honeymoon Island.



BAIT REPORT – Pinfish can be caught along with some small Shrimp.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – It`s the same old thing inshore this week with the summer pattern having set in. Redfish (Drum, Red) are on the oyster bars and mangroves. Lots of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are on the grass flats. Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) are making their way through. Tarpon are rolling off the causeway, early in the mornings as well as off the beaches. There has been a really good Tarpon migration this year. Sharks (Shark, Bull & Shark, Blacktip & Shark, Bonnethead & Shark, H.H. – Great) are the big story. Blacktips, Bonnetheads, Bull and some Hammerheads have shown up on a regular basis. A 12 ft Tiger shark (Shark, Tiger) was even caught off the beach on Honeymoon Island. Tripletail are hanging around the remaining Crab trap markers. They are up 12 lbs on live Shrimp. Free line them around the floats and some of the channel markers to find them. Occasionally you`ll find a Cobia in the same area. Get ready for Barracuda Bob`s 4 of July Sale coming up!

OFFSHORE – Everyone is catching their limit of Grouper (Grouper, Gag). They are hot this week. Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) are abundant off the deep wrecks. Kingfish (Mackerel, King) are still hanging around. There is a nice mixed bag. Red Snapper (Snapper, Red) are everywhere but are catch and release. You can hardly get a bait down to the Grouper. Make sure you are using a really heavy weight to buzz down past the Snapper so the Grouper have a chance to take your bait.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Inshore we are seeing great action at Honeymoon on the oyster bars and the deeper cuts on the low water. As the water comes up they are pushing towards the trees working the structures. They are targeting Snook (Snook, Common) and Redfish (Drum, Red) on the North end. From the shore anglers are finding Pompano (Pompano, Florida), Snook and Redfish. Shrimp, Grass Grunts, MirrOdines in MR 18, Gulp in Chartreuse and White have all been working well. Tarpon are off the beach. DOA Bait Buster in Red/White or Purple are great. They also love Threadfins, Pumpkin Seed and Crabs. Anglers are doing well in the cut on the outgoing tide fishing with Threadfins and Crabs. There are a lot of fish coming through there. Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Inshore anglers are catching Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) in the early morning or late evening. The small ones are hitting during the day. Snook (Snook, Common) are coming off the beach and points of the island. Pinfish and Grunts are best to hook them, but remember that they are catch and release. Redfish (Drum, Red) are in the mangroves and on the oyster bars. Most of the fish are small but the numbers are good. Fred Howard Park and the Power Plant is producing Tarpon and tons of Sharks (Shark, Bull). The Tarpon are hitting well in the early morning.

OFFSHORE – Grunts (Grunt, White) and Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) are hitting this week. We are also finding limits of Gags (Grouper, Gag) and Reds (Grouper, Red) from 60-80 ft of water. The better ones are farther out. Mangroves (Snapper, Gray) are being caught from 6-10 lbs.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Anglers are catching Redfish (Drum, Red) and nice Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). Whitebait has been the main bait to throw but Shrimp is working as well. Snook (Snook, Common) are biting Grunts or Whitebait. Some anglers are using Pinfish but Whitebait is best between the cuts and on the beaches. They are slowing down a bit due to spawning. The Reds are in the Mangroves and in Cotee river on harbors 1 and 2 on the sides where the rocks and sandbars are. These are the most successful locations to find them.

OFFSHORE – Grunts (Grunt, White), Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black), Red and Gag Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red) are the hot bites between 60-80 ft of water. Anglers are easily hitting their limits. The deeper water from 80-100 ft is holding the bigger Snapper (Snapper, Gray) this week.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Along the beaches, there are many Tarpon anywhere from Indian Rocks Beach to Homosassa Springs. A quarter mile out from the beach, you can catch 100-200 lb. Tarpon. Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) can also be caught near the beach. Sharks (Shark, Black Tip & Shark, Bonnethead & Shark, Sandbar & Shark, Bull) are everywhere. Frozen Bonita (Bonito, Little Tunny) has been the bait of choice for catching sharks in this area. There are plenty of Pinfish in the area. Large Snook (Snook, Common) are also on the beaches and in the passes. Hurricane Pass as well as the north and south end of Honeymoon is excellent for catching Snook. Redfish (Drum, Red) are schooling up inside along the mangrove shorelines and oyster bars. Look for leaping Mullet to guide you to the Redfish. If you’re looking to hook some Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Flounder (Flounder, Southern), there are plenty on the grass flats.

OFFSHORE – Gags (Grouper, Gag) are in season this week and people just can’t get enough of them. Pinfish and Gags are very prominent in the area. Some Reds (Grouper, Red) are also being caught in addition to some Kingfish (Mackerel, King). Amberjack (Jack, Amberjack Greater) and Barracudas (Barracuda, Great) can also be found on the wrecks anywhere from 60-100ft. deep. Some of the prime grouper fishing locations are being hijacked by Snappers (Red, Snapper). In order to avoid the snappers from stealing your bait, be sure to use a really heavy weight to make sure that you get right to the bottom quickly.

BAIT REPORT – Similar to last week, Pinfish are being caught in large numbers. There’s also some schools of Mullet around inshore for the cast netters. Be sure to drop by Barracuda Bob’s to get the best shrimp bait around.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are out in large numbers and are primed for fishing. Reds (Drum, Red) are also out in large numbers and are especially prominent in the northern region. Furthermore, Tarpon are just beginning to bite around local beach areas. Small size Pinfish and Shrimp are being used to catch Snook (Snook, Common). Snook has been readily available up around the beaches and around the causeways and bridges. One of the best methods for catching Snook around the area is to use smaller Shrimp and float it around the bridges.

OFFSHORE – Groupers (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red) are out biting in large numbers in addition to very large numbers of amberjacks in the area. So far, Kingfish (Mackerel, King) have been spotty lately and don’t seem to be biting consistently.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Everything is on fire this past weekend. The Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish) and Pompano (Pompano, Florida) were incredible. The early morning bite has been the hot on live Shrimp. Reds (Drum, Red), Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are also biting really well. Shrimp has been key for them as well. Keeper Flounder can be caught off the bridge. The numbers are great. Tarpon are moving strong up and down the beaches. We are also starting to see Cobia on the beach that you can sight fish for. Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Things are very hot this week. Reds (Drum, Red) and Drum (Drum, Black) are all over the causeway and the backwater. There are some great Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) mixed in. The big story is the Tarpon that have moved in. They are being caught regularly in the causeway. They are taking Shrimp and being caught while anglers are targeting Trout. Lots of people have been getting spooled while using light tackle. Anyone who loves fishing for Sharks (Shark, Blacktip & Shark, Bonnethead & Shark, Bull & Shark, H.H. – Great) will have a great time as there are tons swimming this week.

OFFSHORE – There is not a whole lot going on this week. Only Red Grouper (Grouper, Red) is in season and the bite is good. Gags (Grouper, Gag) are catch and release along with Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) however the Gags are thick. Kings (Mackerel, King) have been really great as well since they have moved in. Bait are everywhere so if you troll around them you will catch fish up to 40 lbs.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – A lot of Redfish (Drum, Red), Snook (Snook, Common), Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Flounder (Flounder, Southern) are being caught this week. Live Shrimp, Squid Bits, Pinfish and Greenbacks are the baits of choice. The causeway has been really hot the past week. Nice Snook about 36 inches are coming in. Remember they are catch and release. The best tide and time of day to fish varies daily.

OFFSHORE – This week offshore we are seeing a lot of Grunts (Grunt, White) turn up. Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) and small Grouper (Grouper, Gag) are also showing up. The wreck sites are the best place to look.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Fishing has been fantastic this week. The Snook (Snook, Common) continue to bite in the causeway. The sizes are great. Limits of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are being caught as well. Cobia are coming up from under the causeway up around 30 inches in size. A few Tarpon have been reported from the bayous as well. Menhaden Shads, Spanish Sardines and Greenbacks or Creek Chubs will do well to hook them.

OFFSHORE – A lot of Mackerel (Mackerel, King & Mackerel, Spanish) have been caught offshore. Grouper (Grouper, Gag) and Hogfish are both thick this week and not difficult to catch. Sheepshead have moved out with the warmer weather this week.

BAIT REPORT – Due to the full moon the Shrimp are small. The Pinfish are non existent other than around the piers and causeway. This may be due to Red Tide.

INSHORE – The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has been really good this week. Reds (Drum, Red) are also running quite well, especially close to all the estuaries and oyster beds North of Gulf Harbors. Snook (Snook, Common) has been scattered lately. The better bite is further South. There have been very slow reports of Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish). It has been too windy to go out any farther. Anglers are focusing on the inshore.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is a lot of action inshore this week. Snook (Snook, Common), Reds (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are all on fire. As long as the water is moving you’ll find fish. Working the mangroves on the high tide has been very productive. The island down by St. Joseph Sound is also holding some great Trout. The Reds and Snook are also holding up on residential docks and the mouth of the Anclote River. Pinfish and Grunts will be great to hook the Snook while Reds prefer Shrimp. The water temperature is pretty good. Look for bait and birds as Pelicans indicate the bigger fish.

OFFSHORE – Kings (Mackerel, King) are just starting to show up. This is the big buzz right now. Trolling stretch 25s, spoons or plugs is a great way to find them. Once you do make sure you chum to keep them coming. Cigar minnows are a hot bait caught on a Sabiki rod or bought frozen and will hook them well. Start in about 25 ft of water and work your way out.

INSHORE – Fishing has been fabulous lately. Snook (Snook, Common) are showing up in large numbers. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Redfish (Drum, Red) are hot as always. Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – There are a lot of Specks (Seatrout, Spotted), Flounder (Flounder, Southern) and some nice Redfish (Drum, Red) being caught this week. Large Shrimp, Pinfish or Greenbacks are doing well to hook them. 5 inch paddle tail plastics, DOA Shrimp and Vudu lures are working well if you are throwing artificial. There are some reports of Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) and Tarpon spotted this week. Around the causeway, anglers are catching lots of Sheepshead and Grass Grunts (Grunt, White) from the area as well. There are some Pompano (Pompano, Florida) in this area however they are not consistent.

OFFSHORE – Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red), Snapper (Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Gray) and Key West Grunts (Grunt, White) are hot this week. The weather has been fairly decent so it hasn’t been too difficult for anglers to get out. There are also plenty of Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) swimming as well.

INSHORE – The wind has been blowing in this area as of late. Lots of anglers have had a hard time getting out. When it settles down we expect to see Snook (Snook, Common) and Redfish (Drum, Red) following the bait on the flats. They should be all over the place.

OFFSHORE – Catch and release Gags (Grouper, Gags) have been out in the offshore this week. There have also been Snapper (Snapper, Red) in close at 45 ft that are also not open for harvest. Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) are out farther this week in roughly 75 ft of water around structure.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Things have remained consistent so far this week. We are still seeing some Mackerel, Spanish moving back in which is a great promise for an upcoming Spring bite. They are moving throughout the causeway since the water is warming up. They continue to follow the bait moving in the back bay. This is better for anglers as they can wade out off the shore. The beach is still producing a spotty Pompano, Florida bite. We are seeing a variety of sizes so far but anglers will have to put some time in to find them. Redfish (Drum, Red) can be found around the mangrove shores and oyster bars behind the big islands. They are continuing to school up so if you catch one you will catch a few. Snook, Common are beginning their move out of the creeks towards the islands. The bite is beginning to heat up but give it some time for the big sizes. Moving towards the grass flats we are seeing lots of good sizes of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted & Seatrout, Silver) this week. They are loving live Shrimp or similar artificials. Sheepshead are also still around on the usual spots including structures and pilings. There are also still some Flounder (Flounder, Southern) being caught this week however they are not the focus of most anglers as the bite is fairly scattered. Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Not a lot has changed from last week. The water is warming up as the temperatures are a bit higher. There is bait moving into the back bay and the game fish are following. Mackerel, Spanish are showing up in big numbers. The Causeway is hit and miss but when they start moving through there we are seeing some great bites. It is the target for a lot of anglers. Pompano, Florida are running hot and cold off the beach. The bite is not really steady yet but it is good. Some of the sizes are huge. Redfish (Drum, Red) are starting to school up around the mangrove shores and oyster bars behind the big islands. The Snook, Common are beginning to move out of the creeks and show up on the islands. In another month the bite will be hot and the fish will be fat. The grass flats are holding Seatrout, Spotted and Seatrout, Silver. Sheepshead are still on structure such as dock pilings and bridges. Flounder, Southern are also still being caught this week. Stay tuned for the official date of Barracuda Bob’s Grand Opening! They also have some great live Shrimp at the shop this week.

OFFSHORE – There is not a lot to report from the offshore this week. Grouper, Red are the only fish in season so they are the target for most anglers. We have not seen Kings (Mackerel, King) in any great numbers but we expect to see them once the bait comes in and the water warms up. This should happen mid April at the latest.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – The water is beginning to warm back up and anglers are seeing some early Mackerel, Spanish coming in. Some are weighing in up to 5 lbs already. This was found right from shore around the causeway. The Islands and causeway are holding a some great Flounder (Flounder, Southern). They have been hot this week. They are not all huge but most are legal size (12 inches) and there are tons of them! The Reds (Drum, Red) are starting to school up and run the mangrove edges and oyster bars. There is great Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) in the shallow grass flats in 4-5 ft of water. Snook, Common are now open and they are still in the creeks and canals at this point however are expected to move down in the next few months to the passes and beaches. The Shark (Shark, Bonnethead & Shark, Blacktip) bite is picking up, most of them are still small. Stay tuned for the official date of Barracuda Bob’s Grand Opening!

OFFSHORE – The Grouper, Red bite has been hot offshore. There are some Grouper, Gag as well however they are closed.

INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) have continued to do well on live bait this week. Shrimp and Pinfish are working exceptionally well. INSHORE – Things have been slow in this area as of late. Reports have been basic Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), Reds (Drum, Red) and Flounder (Flounder, Southern). The Flounder are hitting a jig head with Shrimp on the beach. Reds are eating the DOA or Gulp Jerk Shad by the oyster bars. The Trout are hitting Shrimp under a popping cork. INSHORE – There have not been a whole lot of anglers getting out this week due to the weather. Anglers waiting for a break can target Sharks (Shark, Bonnethead & Shark, Blacktip) using Shrimp. They are always a fun catch. Chunks of Bonito and frozen cut Ladyfish will work too as long as it’s a bigger bait. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted & Seatrout, Silver) continue to hit again this week. The sizes are still fair and they are schooling up in deeper holes, pockets and along docks. The bite is consistent so far. The Pompano, Florida and Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) are present but not hot this week. We expect these conditions to carry into the weekend.

INSHORE – Since the weather has warmed out we are seeing Shark (Shark, Bonnethead and Shark, Black Tip) eating Shrimp in the Causeway. Anglers specifically targeting them are using chunks of frozen Bonito. There are still Silver and Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Silver & Seatrout, Spotted) swimming all over the grass flats. They are preferring live Shrimp. Anglers continue to jig them under a popping cork. Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) are showing up on Shrimp as well. Reds (Drum, Red) have been on the oyster bars and shorelines and can be caught on the morning bite with cut bait. Sheepshead are still hanging around structure and biting for anglers throwing Fiddler Crabs.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Silver and Speckled Trout (Seatrout, Spotted & Seatrout, Silver) are all over the shallow grass flats being caught on live Shrimp or jigging tail under a popping cork. Big Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) are all over the place. Most people are catching them on live Shrimp, Mud Minnows or small Pinfish bounced along the bottom off the causeway. Reds (Drum, Red) are all over the oyster bars and mangrove shorelines. In the morning, topwaters like mirrolures. They are nice sizes so far and will take just about anything from artificials to cut bait to Shrimp and Pinfish. Sheepshead are around the bridge pilings and mainland docks pilings so far this week. They generally love live Fiddler Crabs.

OFFSHORE – Grouper, Red are the main target for anglers nearshore this week. They can be found from 15-20 to no more than 40 ft. They are holding up on the artificial reefs within 5 miles. Ajs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) have been on the wrecks while the Mackerel, King have moved South at this point.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Despite the unfavorable weather in the offshore there is a great bite to be found inshore this week. The Anclote power plant is holding great sizes of Pompano, Florida and Permit so far. There are also some nice Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) that can be caught on the evening bite throughout the same area. The outflow has now turned on so everything seems to move towards this area, including some good sizes of Cobia. Near Fred Howard Park there are some great Trout, Ladyfish, and Jacks (Jack, Crevalle). The Anclote river is holding some Reds (Drum, Red) and Snook, Common however keep in mind that Snook are catch and release at this time. Big Trout are swimming this area so it is a great place to look for them. Shrimp has been the best bait for just about everything. There isn’t much in terms of bait still swimming so a live Shrimp or similar artificial is popular at this time of year.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – It’s been cold and windy so a lot of anglers have stayed inside. There are still Reds (Drum, Red), Snook, Common, Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), and Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gul) reported from the bay but it hasn’t been too busy. Live Shrimp for the Reds and Trout is always key. Greenies are also working as bait and can be caught live to match the run.

OFFSHORE – The water offshore is quite choppy so there have not been many reports from this area. Mackerel, King are still caught anywhere from 4 miles off the coast and out. The sizes are good and we expect the bite to pick up once the conditions lie down.

BAIT REPORT – Greenbacks (Threadfin) are swimming this week and can be caught by cast net. The best schools will be in the shallow water that is sheltered from the wind.

OFFSHORE – The main bite this week has been from the nearshore. Although Grouper, Gag is closed they are coming up in great sizes from 3-5 miles out for catch and release fishermen. There are also Snapper, Gray swimming in the same areas. Their sizes are big and the bite is consistent so far. Pinfish has been a great choice in bait this week along with Grunts. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite is spotty so far and most people have chosen to target other species. There are no reports of Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) at this time. Anglers do not have to travel far to get a good catch this week.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have been hitting left and right on the causeway using live Shrimp under a popping cork and the sizes have been consistently great so far. There are also some Reds (Drum, Red) turning up with the occasional Snook, Common but for the most part the focus has been on Trout and Flounder (Flounder, Gulf & Flounder, Southern). The Flounder have not been too crazy yet this week however anglers are not finding it difficult to catch them on jigheads with Shrimp on the sand.

OFFSHORE – There is a lot of action in the offshore this week. About 15-20 miles out anglers are seeing a great bite of Kings (Mackerel, King) while free lining Sardines. Despite their closure, Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red) are doing well too on Pinfish or Grunts. There have also been Snapper, Gray turning up from 3-10 miles off the shore. Cobia is also still biting along with the occasional Aj (Jack, Amberjack Greater). Shrimp has been a great bait in the offshore for the Snapper, Cobia and Ajs.

BAIT REPORT – Greenbacks (Threadfin) are all over the bridges this week and anglers are having no trouble stocking up on good sizes. There are lots of great deals on Shrimp when you purchase $20 worth of tackle or 3 dozen Shrimp.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – Redfish (Drum, Red) are huge this week. A lot of anglers are targeting them as they are fantastic catches so far. They are loving live or dead Shrimp or alternatively a DOA or Vudu. There is also Snook, Common on the mainland side that are preferring live or dead Shrimp as well and are holding up under the docks. Although they are closed a lot of anglers love fishing them anyways just for catch and release. There are no signs of Seatrout, Spotted so far this week however the bite is expected to head up once the temperatures drops just a little bite and they become more active.

OFFSHORE – There is not a whole lot happening in the offshore this week. Anglers that head farther out can fish for some Grouper, Red however the preference has been to stay a bit closer in on the 3-5 mile mark. There are artificial reefs here holding huge Snapper, Gray that are loving the Whitebait this week. Some anglers are reporting that they limited out within a half hour. They are not hard to find or hard to catch this week.

BAIT REPORT – The water is so warm there is bait everywhere! Pilchards, Finger Mullet and Whitebait are providing a great feast for inshore fish. It is easy to stock up this week. There are some great Shrimp deals this week as well as some fantastic deals on rod and reels. Barracuda Bob’s is even open on Christmas for those last minute shoppers.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – The bite is a bit slower inshore this week. Reds (Drum, Red) are hitting Pinfish or Shrimp on the mangroves and oyster beds. Mackerel, Spanish are swimming the causeway this week and are loving Shrimp under a bobber or alternatively Pinfish. Silver Spoons and gotcha plugs are producing good sizes as well. Just before and after the high tide going out has been the best bite. There have been reports of lots of Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) just about everywhere. The flats, bridges and potholes are all great spots to hit when on the water. Anglers are using popping corks for them. There are also Flounder (Flounder, Southern & Flounder, Gulf) on the island sands and are coming in on Shrimp on a jighead. This bite is not as frequent however.

OFFSHORE – There is quite a bit of action offshore this week. Big Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) are only a couple miles out. Anglers have been heavy chumming for them and this is working extremely well. Gags are showing up and even though they are out of season some anglers are still catching and releasing. There has been a steady bite of Grouper, Goliath that some anglers are targeting using 12 inch Jack on a handline. The Williamson flutter jig has been essential for hooking AJs (Jack, Amberjack Greater) and Mackerel (Mackerel, Spanish, or Mackerel, King). Most colors of this work the same. These fish have been anywhere from 23-30 ft of water. The bite should get better in deeper water however anglers are waiting for the next cold front to move bigger fish in.

BAIT REPORT – Greenbacks (Threadfins) are hitting just about everywhere this week. Anglers are pulling up and netting tons in one throw. Most are right under the bridges and next to the pylons. They have not been as hot on the flats this week. One throw and anglers are done. If you spend $20 or buy 3 dozen shrimp at Barracuda Bob’s you will receive 2 dozen free shrimp this week!!

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – The fishing in the area has been really good so far this week. The water temperatures have cooled down enough to bring new fish in. The Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) bite has continued to do well as their sizes have increased. Reds (Drum, Red) have also shown up in a lot of the same spots. Shrimp under a popping cork throughout the grass flats are the best bet to hook either a Trout or Red. Anglers are still hitting a good Snook, Common bite as they chase after bigger sized Shrimp or small Pinfish. Artificially the bombers in red/white are a great alternative for Snook. Pompano, Florida and Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) have made their way in towards the power plants along with some good sizes of Bluefish. Jigs such as the Pumpkin Crazy are the most productive setup for these fish this week. There have been no reports of Flounder so far.

OFFSHORE – Although Grouper, Gag is closed anglers are still allowed to catch and release them, so anyone heading offshore this week has been doing just that. Gags have even been found in 25 ft of water and can be caught on Threadfins and Sardines. Large Pinfish are also great. The Kings (Mackerel, King) and Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) have had no reports so far this week and are expected to have moved out with the cooler temperatures.

BAIT REPORT – With the cooler weather some anglers are beginning to switch to artificial baits and lures however there is still a spotty Threadfin bite around structures.

INSHORE – The Flounder, Gulf have begun to make their way in this week. Anglers have been using a gulp swimming mullet or creek chub. It is a great idea to consider spinning the hook on a jig 90 degrees to hook the flat fish and keep them on. A quarter oz jighead is recommended. There have also been reports of Snook, Common out on Honeymoon. The Reds (Drum, Red) are turned on this week. New penny or chartreuse are the best colors in a gulp. Live Shrimp is the preferred bait this week. As the water cools down most fish are making their way into the backcountry. Big Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) have moved back in as well. They are loving a gulp under a popping cork. Anglers have been drifting over grass flats to find them.

OFFSHORE – Now that the Gags are closed that only seems to leave Grouper, Red for bottom fish. The water is beginning to cool down so the bigger sizes are starting to move in closer. They can be caught within 3 miles. Mackerel, King and Mackerel, Spanish are plentiful as well for anglers dropping a chum bag or cut bait to turn them on. The Mangrove (Snapper, Gray) have been hot this week. Some anglers have even been hitting their limit within 30 minutes.

BAIT REPORT – Live baiters continue to see tons of Greenbacks (Threadfins) under the second bridge at the causeway. They will not be difficult to catch.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is a lot going on in the shallow water this week. Reds (Drum, Red), Sheepshead, Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) and Drum (Drum, Black) have been everywhere between the mouth out to the anclote key. The Northern channel has been holding Pompano, Florida and Permit on the beach side and along the beach on the Three Rooker Island. Drifting in 5-7 ft above the grass has been the best method using Shrimp and Pinfish to jig them up. Chartreuse has been the best color this week. The Reds, Trout and Mackerel, Spanish are all fat right now.

OFFSHORE – The fishing in this area has been red hot. Trolling offshore has been key. Anglers using Whitebait on the troll can expect to hook some good sized Cobia or even some keeper Gags (Grouper, Gag) in 10 ft where you can find holes. Our sources suggest starting in 25ft and trolling a clark spoon or stretch 25 at 4 knots until you hit them. Then anglers start dropping a chum bag or cut bait to turn on the Kings (Mackerel, King) as well.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Creeks continue to host Snook, Common and Tarpon, although they are becoming spotty. Bigger Reds (Drum, Red) are pushing in along with some nice sizes of Seatrout, Spotted. Anglers are using gulps in new penny or live Shrimp as their baits of choice for both Trout and Reds. The sizes are expected to increase once the temperature drops a little bit more.

OFFSHORE – The harsh winds have deterred a lot of offshore fishing at this point. Anglers are hoping it will move some of the grass and debris out so waters will be more clear to troll. The Kings (Mackerel, King) are still out there however not easy to get to on account of the weather. Grouper, Gag are swimming as well along the bottom. The water temperature is still fairly warm which is not helping the fishing although there is still some Cigar Minnows swimming the reefs.

BAIT REPORT – Cigar Minnows are swimming the reefs in the offshore. There have been no other bait running to report at this time.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday

INSHORE – Fishing in this area has not changed much in the past week. Seatrout, Spotted are coming back in hitting the gulp. Reds (Drum, Red) are also making their way back in and chasing gulp under a popping cork in new penny, root beer or new penny with a chartreuse tail. The Snapper, Gray have thinned out quite a bit and there have been no reports of anglers reeling them in. Snook, Common and Tarpon are swimming the creeks in some really good sizes. The water temperature still has not dropped to where it should be at this time of year when everything gets pushed back into the creeks.

OFFSHORE – Cigar minnows are still swimming in the deep water and all the fish are chasing them. The Mackerel, King bite has slowed down significantly due to the water temperature. They are still roughly 5 miles off the coast over structures and under birds. The Grouper, Gag bite has remained constant and they are hanging out a little closer. Sardines or Squid on a jig are working well along with live or chunked Minnow and Pinfish. When the water cools down more, the bite is expected to increase.

INSHORE – The oyster bars are host to lots of Reds (Drum, Red) that are going absolutely crazy right now. Seatrout, Spotted are heading back in and there are still some Snook, Common in the flats. Gulp is working well for the Trout and Reds under a popping cork in new penny or rooster colors. Reds don’t always hit the popping cork but are also loving the new penny color with chartreuse tail. Snapper, Gray have been biting as the water starts to become cooler.

OFFSHORE – Anglers are finding huge pods of Cigar Minnows clumped together. There is also a solid Mackerel bite (Mackerel, King & Mackerel, Spanish). They’re over structures and anglers can look for birds to help find them. Veteran’s Reef and surrounding reefs about 5 miles off have been producing good fish. That area is a little deeper and a little cooler. Stretch 25s and 30s are working well. Grouper, Gag also have a good bite and are in quite a bit closer. Sources have reported 15lbs in 7 ft of water using jigs, Sardines and Squid. Cigar minnows are also working well, live or chunked, in addition to live Pinfish. When the water cools down, the fishing will get even better.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday / Tarpon Springs Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Getting out has been really tough. Anglers have been staying inshore for all the fish. Should you decide to venture out into the deeper water and are interested in some recommendations you can feel free to consult our Tips feature which provides information on the fish of your choice.

INSHORE – Reds (Drum, Red) are on fire right now. Most anglers are fishing for these guys and landing fish from 18-30 inches and they are eating all throughout the day. Seek them out close to shores, oyster beds and mangrove blinds. Shrimp and Finger Mullet are what they are hungry for so throw some of these and you won’t keep your line in the water for too long before hooking up. Snook (Snook, Common) are moving in towards the bridges and mouth of the inlet due to the the weather cooling down and the pressure causing them to chew. Greenbacks are working well for both of these which is your best bet for bait. There have also been a few Flounder (Flounder, Gulf) reported up to 20 inches. They are loving live Shrimp hooked through the tail pulled along the bottom on a jighead. They cannot resist the movement.

BAIT REPORT – Shrimp have become spotty now however Threadfins, and Pilchards are doing well and their size is getting bigger. You can find these in the beaches and early morning is the best time to catch.

OFFSHORE – The fishing has been steady as Gag Grouper and Red Grouper are starting to move in around the 50 mile mark. Trolling stretch 30s and live Pinfish seems to be your best bet right now. Cut Squid and Sardines are also working well for anglers looking to hook some Grouper.

INSHORE – The nearshore reefs are shows lots of Spanish Mackerel willing to jump on anything shiney and fast. Kingfish are a little less picky and will hit dead Sardines or Threadfins. The best live bait for the Kings and Spanish are Bluerunners and Cigar Minnows.

BAIT REPORT – If you’re looking for bait you can head straight to rock piles under the bridges for some thick Pilchards. There’s the Threadfin on deeper structures also.

INSHORE – The inshore fishing has been pretty good here. The northeast wind finally passing has given us a break from the poor fishing conditions. We are starting to get some Redfish and Snook on jumbo shrimp right on the beaches. The Reds and Snook can be found all the way from Clearwater Beach to Edgewater. We’re also getting lots of big Flounder by free lining Shrimp.

BAIT REPORT – Along the beaches, we’re starting to see better sized Pilchards. The pods of Pilchards aren’t that big, but they’re starting to come in. They’re not on top of the water and can be hard to find.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday / Tarpon Springs Fishing Report

Inshore: Just off Honeymoon Island, the dredging is causing the Glass minnows to go absolutely crazy. The Tarpon, Redfish and Snook are going nuts in the chocolate-colored water holding all those glass minnows. Shrimp, Pinfish and anything that pretty much looks like a glass minnow are all working very well. Redfish and Snook are all over the Clearwater Beach area. Flounder are beginning to come in near the beach in 4-9 feet of water and in a good rocky bottom area, and according to Nick at Barracuda Bob’s, they are going to strike at pretty much anything an angler drags across the bottom! Favorite rig is a Creek Chum or Mud Minnow on a jig head.

Offshore: Spanish Mackerel and Kingfish are beginning to show up in good numbers in 30-60 feet of water just above any kind of structure. The Mangrove Snapper bite has been really good as well, again, near any kind of structure, be it a reef or a wreck area. The “Nekid Ball” jig tipped with shrimp is making a killing as far as lures go. The idea is to let the jig hit the bottom and then jig it hard as the Snapper will then hit it pretty hard on the way down.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday / Tarpon Springs Fishing Report

Offshore: According to Nick at Barracuda Bob’s, the water is beginning to cool down a bit and every time it does, it brings the fish in a couple more miles. The Grouper are biding their time 18-20 miles out, and they are joined by lots of Mangrove Snapper and Amberjacks at wrecks, rock piles and hard bottom. Anglers are using 4-6 ounce weights with 100 lb. fluorocarbon leader with live Pinfish and live Grunts, and some butterflied finger Mullet Bait buster. The 5 ounce William Flutter Jig has been working offshore for Amberjacks, Barracuda, and an occasional Grouper if the jig is allowed to go deep enough. The go to bait still consists of Threadfin, Pilchards, and Greenbacks which often school up along the islands. Traps and Sabiki rigs have been effective in bringing up these small bait fish. And if that is not successful, they are available at Barracuda Bob’s! The bait shop tries to carry all the Shrimp, Grunts and Pinfish on a daily basis. Of particular note is the fact that Barracuda Bob’s is putting in a new, state of the art bait room, and will be the only bait shop in the area to carry live Pilchards and Greenbacks.

Inshore: Honeymoon Island is chock full of Tarpon. They are also hanging out near the new jetties, hanging out in the dredge troughs eating Threadfins. They are a bit hidden in the chocolate colored water created by the dredging, but they are there. The Redfish are still up in the mangroves. Chumming them up with live greenbacks is the order of the day! A few Tarpon have gone after the D.O.A.

Clearwater / Largo & Holiday / Tarpon Springs Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The Grouper are biting 30 miles out. Expect to find Gag Grouper and Red Grouper biting on cut bait. Pinfish and cut Mullet are the best for Gag Grouper right now. There are also big Mangrove Snapper around structure and they like to bite on Shrimp.

INSHORE – The Redfish are in the mangroves and you can get them riled up by chumming live Greenbacks. Honeymoon Island is doing good on Trout. Lots of inshore Mangrove Snapper at the bridges. The Snook fishing was really productive a few weeks ago, but the biggest ones are off the beach now because they are done breeding. There are still plenty of the smaller ones. Try using live grunts, the bigger ones the better. Grunts also tend to be the bait of choice at night.

BAIT REPORT – Live greenbacks and threadfins over at the San Key Bridge (SP?_). Pinfish in the grass grunts in sabikis and traps.

Buy 3 dozen get 1 dozen free on the shrimp. Buy any rod and reel and get a free spool of braid.

Clearwater Fishing Report

INSHORE: Trout and snook are still hanging out around the causeway and near the beaches. The redfish are hanging out in their favorite spots under and along the mangroves. The good shrimp are back in this area and they are always a good bet for both trout and redfish. The larger trout are also taking pinfish.

OFFSHORE: Anglers looking for bait will find some greenies, pinfish and grunts. Bait schools have been sighted on the east side of Three Rivers. Anglers are picking up grouper, cobia, and amberjack 30 miles out in about 70 feet of water using cut bait on the bottom.

Clearwater Fishing Report

OFFSHORE: The 2 ½ feet of rain in the Tarpon Springs area has made it very difficult for anglers to get offshore.

INSHORE: Due to all of the recent rain, the salinity is way down and the bite has been spotty. In fact, last week, it seemed as though the tide was going out all week. Actually, the incoming tide was coming in under the murkier water going out, making good fishing a challenge. Those anglers throwing out Shrimp have been doing pretty well with the Redfish. Greenbacks and white bait are also currently available. The docks and bridges are holding some decent Snook and Redfish biting on shrimp, Pinfish and Threadfins. Noisy top water lures are also working due to the murky color of the water. Soft plastic with a paddle tail is a good bet, along with any lures that flash and/or rattle much like the rattletrap lures. Anglers have been having quite a bit of luck outside the marinas with Jacks which will hit most bait and any shiny lures. Those who want Catfish can catch them anywhere with just about anything. They are thick!

Clearwater Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The Grouper have been moving in a little closer. Clearwater reef has some great fishing right now, and might be worth the time if you plan on going offshore. Cobia have been caught recently because the water temperature has pushed more fish back inshore. You want to take Sardines, Squid, and some live Pinfish (if you can get them) as bait. Again, the temperature change means that there are quite a few Grouper closer in than usual, so check for rocks and hard bottom.

INSHORE – Nick at Barracuda Bob’s has reported that the good Redfish are back in. The Trout bite is still good too. The Snook are also all over the beach. There are lots and lots of Redfish out at Anclote. There was a guy who came into the store who caught 14 Redfish with 2 dozen large Shrimp. If that isn’t a sign that these guys have the best bait around, then I don’t know what is.

BAIT REPORT – Pinfish are everywhere. Nick was out with his Father and they saw tons of them. Lots of Grunts to be seen too. There are some Greenbacks in and around the second bridge on the causeway around 3 Rooker.

OFFSHORE – Nobody has been offshore because of the weather earlier this week.

INSHORE – Michael at Anclote Bait & Tackle told me that guys are still fishing the inshore and it’s pretty good. Still some good Snook around the beaches. Redfish and trout are out on the flats. But lots of guys have been catching Flounder using little jigs and shrimp. Speaking of Shrimp – they are still going to be your bait of choice for anything inshore. Nothing can resist those tasty little guys. There is a hatch of Pinfish and Greenbacks around right now that most fish are feeding on, so you could try experimenting with those baits, or lures that imitate those baits, if you feel like switching things up.

Clearwater Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Captain Mike over at Clearwater Bait & Tackle told me that the Gag Grouper bite is still good, but it has pushed a little further out because the water is warmer. You can try trolling for the Grouper too on a nice planer about 17 foot down around the rock piles. The pelagic fish like the Cobia are favouring the flats and grass flats right now because it is hot. Regardless of if you are going offshore or staying inshore, pick up a dozen pinfish and run 30 pound test fluorocarbon with a 3/0 circle hook. The goal is to let it drift in the current, keep it slow moving through the pass.

INSHORE – Head out to the passes, like honeymoon island, there are monster Snook on the beach. Again, fluorocarbon line is key, and you might want to go with a stronger test because there are 40 pound snook out there. As mentioned above, your go to bait is going to be Pinfish, but if not go with cut grunts. Expect to see a few Cobia inshore as well.

OFFSHORE – The weather has been rough lately and not a lot of people are going out. It doesn’t really look like it will clear up over this weekend either with the weatherman calling for precipitation at some point. The fishing may be good, but we won’t know for sure until things settle down.

INSHORE – AJ over at Big Pier 60 has seen a decent amount of fishing off of the pier. The night fishing has been phenomenal, especially since the poor weather has allowed for the water temperature to drop. AJ has been seeing Spotted Sea Trout, Pompano, and Snook being caught – but the Snook are out of season. There has also been a good Snapper bite for both Yellowtail and Lane Snapper. Most people are using frozen Squid and live Shrimp. Different people swear by different lures; but your best bet is to imitate a shrimp, Gulp makes a great fake.

BAIT REPORT – Pinfish are close to the beach and you should be able to go out and catch some with a healthy chum, net, or sabiki. As for pest fish; there are Catfish around, and if you are looking to bend your pole you can probably find one pretty much anywhere.

OFFSHORE – Amberjack have been biting and the gags are opening the first. Everyone and there dog is going to be out so make sure that you hold your spots to your chest and if you have the time, go scout them before hand. You are going to want to bottom fish for them with live pinfish, grunts, frozen squid, and sardines. Drop a few cut bait first and if you don’t get any attention then try another spot. There are also some Barracuda 10 miles and further out.

INSHORE – The trick to near shore fishing right now is fishing the beaches and islands real close to shore. Our friends over at Barracuda Bob’s recommends that you cast your bait within 20 feet of the shore line. Also, the points of the island and passes are great right now. Fish close and use live Shrimp or Greenbacks. Live bait is the best; and if you can try to use a 20 pound braided line. There are also Snook, Redfish, and Tarpon. The Tarpon are especially big, and in that case you probably want a bigger rod and strong line. Also expect to find Cobia and Trout out there. 

BAIT REPORT – Grunts and pinfish are around on the grass flats. If you have a cast net or a sabiki rig you can use some squid and catch bait fish.

OFFSHORE – If you are looking for Grouper, the Red Grouper is the only one open right now. We are also looking forward to the opening of Gag Grouper in two weeks! If you want to pull up some nice Red Grouper you’ll want to head out to Pasco 1 or Pasco 2 drift over those two spots with Sardines and Squid. If you want to troll try using a big lipped plug like Manns Stretch 25. Or you can troll silver or gold spoons.

INSHORE – The bite has been hot! There are lots of Snook, Tarpon, Redfish, and Sea Trout around the islands. Check out the outside of the river at Anclote Key 3 Rooker bar and Honeymoon Island. These fish are hitting hard on live Shrimp, and live Pinfish. While there is lots of bait around if you’re in a hurry you can grab some from Pete at Tarpon Trading Company.

BAIT REPORT – There is tons of bait in the area everything like Whitebait, Pilchards, Sardines, Greenbacks, Ballyhoo and Blue Runners. There is also all kind of micro stuff like Glass Minnows.

Clearwater / Largo / Tarpon Springs / Holiday Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Try heading out about 24 miles offshore to 72 feet of water and bottom fishing. Try dropping Sardines cut in half, Squid, live Pinfish, Bonita, Eel or cutbait. This should attract Red Grouper, American Red Snapper and Mangrove Snapper. Trolling will bring you more Gag and Red Grouper. Trolling will also find you catching some Spanish Mackerel and Kingfish.

INSHORE – Fish the incoming tide with a FB49 with a greenback pattern . That will be sure to land you some Trout, Redfish, Black Drum, or Snook. The Oyster beds are great in the Sound but the backcountry is very calm, as most everything is pushed out towards the mouth.

BAIT REPORT – There is a good amount of bait around. There are always Pinfish around and Threadfins are nice if you can throw a new. These baits work well for inshore and offshore.
