Boca Raton Fishing Report

INSHORE – You may not believe it but all the hot bites have been coming from the offshore this week. Snook are the most consistent inshore target, but don’t worry, they’re doing well into this week despite the hit or miss weather. Inlets, docks, beaches, seawalls and rivers are all holding decent fish. No matter where you go it seems you will run into some Snook. They are also not picky on bait. Our Captains and Bait Shops seem to be using a wide variety of setups and still finding plenty of success. Scattered Tarpon and Pompano can also be caught, mostly from the beach. They haven’t quite become consistent yet. We hope to see the inshore improve as the season progresses.

OFFSHORE – If you are able to make it offshore this week you will have no problem loading up on a good variety of fish that are turning up in decent sizes as well. There is no question that Dolphin are taking the prize for best fish so far this week. From Juno to Fort Lauderdale they are consistently turning up, the only difference being the depth they are found in. Once you hit your spot, troll a skirted Ballyhoo and get ready for a great bite! Anglers are also getting pumped about the upcoming full moon because you know what that means, Wahoo! They are already beginning to fire up so anglers are taking every opportunity to head to 100-300 feet of water around the Lake Worth to Deerfield areas. The occasional Sailfish and Tuna are also mixed in. When weather keeps anglers nearshore the focus has shifted to the bottom bite. Snapper and Cobia can be caught a bit closer in taking live bait. 90 feet has been a key depth to start in. There has been no shortage of options offshore this week.

INSHORE – Big Bluefish are on the beach from Blowing Rocks to the North, about 20 feet deep. They can be caught from the boats. Pompano (Pompano, Florida) are in good numbers swimming the beach from Juno North. Big Bluefish are also in the river. Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) and Ladyfish are also being caught. Snook (Snook, Common) are holding up on the jetties. They aren’t really thick but they’re becoming more active.

OFFSHORE – There has been some Blackfin (Tuna, Blackfin) with schoolie Dolphin this week. Cobia and Kings (Mackerel, King) have been caught as well. Search for them to the North in 100-110 feet of water. The bottom bite has been a bit slower overall. Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) and Wahoo have been caught but they are not consistent. Sails are around 220 feet of water. Most anglers are starting at the edge. Dolphin are coming right up to the top.

BAIT REPORT – There hasn’t been much on bait as of late. Small schools of Mullet are getting ready to fire up in the backcountry.

Boca Raton Fishing Report

INSHORE – They are finally here! Better Tarpon are beginning to show up this week and anglers have long awaited to target them with the early Spring conditions. We are seeing a good variety of techniques working well to hook them from Jupiter to Fort Lauderdale however we are mostly seeing live bait as the key to hooking them. Mullet, Shrimp, Bonito slabs and Kingfish bellies are all good choices this week. We expect that they will be moving into their typical feeding spots as long as the weather stays consistent.
Snook are a great follow up fish this week. They are steadily turning up throughout the inlets and don’t seem to be too picky in terms of what they will feed on. Otherwise, anglers are heading to the beach for scattered Pompano, Whiting or Bluefish.

OFFSHORE –
If you’re heading offshore this week you’re probably out there taking advantage of the hot Dolphin bite! From Jupiter to Fort Lauderdale we are seeing success with many anglers landing good numbers of Mahi. They are scattered throughout the offshore in typical depths however live bait on the troll has been the key to catching them. Blue/white or pink/white combinations are best in terms of artificials.
There are plenty of other fish to target in the deep water as well. We are seeing nice sized Tuna turning up along with Kingfish up to almost 40 pounds. Sails are also mixed in anywhere from 100-300 feet of water. The bottom bite is producing a variety of Snapper as well, especially out of the Jupiter and Juno areas. We hope to see everything continue with the nice weather into next week.

Boca Raton Fishing Report

INSHORE – If you’re heading out to the surf or the inshore this week you’ll want to look towards Jupiter as the Miami area was blown out! The wind has kept many anglers waiting for weather windows to take advantage of the bite. This week, the focus has been on Snook. Your typical areas are holding the best fish however a full moon is what will fire them up. The night bite has been successful for those casting live bait, especially with the bait run beginning in Deerfield.
The day bite is considerably slower this week. When you can find an area with some shelter or a break in the wind you might be able to see some of the scattered Pompano, Bluefish and Sharks running the beach. If you are lucky enough to be able to get onto the reefs, they will be holding decent sized Cobia as well. Once things calm down we suspect that the fish will be feeding on the bait run as the Mullet make their way in and the Sardines head to the rock piles off the beach.

OFFSHORE – This week the weather is cool but the bite is hot, hot, hot! We are still getting a lot of Tuna including Yellowfin, a Bluefin or two, Blackfin and even some Skipjack. The numbers are consistently good from Jupiter to Fort. Lauderdale. Head to 120 feet of water for consistently good sizes of Blackfin from 5 to 8 pounds with bigger sizes mixed in.
There have been reef fish including Kings swimming both nearshore and offshore along the coast. Sails are mixed in with the Kings towards Jupiter however by the time we make our way to Fort Lauderdale they have become, still consistent, but scattered from in close to farther offshore. Normally they are slow at this time of year however they are still quite active into this week. From the bottom, the Snapper are providing the hotter bite. A variety of species have been caught using Sardines as well as Squid throughout the area. Amberjack are beginning to stack up on the deeper reefs as well.

Boca Raton Fishing Report

INSHORE – Anglers have finally had some reports of Cobia close to the beach in Lake Worth. We are hoping the weather treats us to a few opportunities to get on them. Jetty fishermen are doing very well on Snook at night around bridges and dock lights, daytime jetty fishing is also good. If you are unsure of where to go, try Deerfield or Fort Lauderdale and bring some topwaters. Don’t be surprised if you hook a few Jacks and Snapper when using Shrimp. Fishing Headquarters out of Fort Lauderdale has reported bigger Tarpon in the area. The fish have been extremely difficult to get a bite out of. Down in Miami, Government Cut in the bay near the key has produced good amounts of Tarpon.

OFFSHORE – The bottom bite for Snapper has been slow early in the week on account of the wind. This is normally a good thing however because the fish are usually less pressured when you finally get a chance to target them. We caught up with Fishing Headquarters running out of Fort Lauderdale and they reported decent Amberjack fishing around the shipwrecks in 200 feet of water. You will also hook a pile of catch and release Grouper from the bottom. The offshore trolling bite was really hit or miss from Miami up to Jupiter. The better bite was to the South. Wahoo reports were fairly slim unless you were able to get close to the Bahamas. Look to see Dolphin fishing pick up off of West Palm Beach as new debris and weedlines should show up. A mix of Tuna and Bonito were readily caught out of Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Bonito were up to 5 pounds. Moving closer in, Kingfish have been biting in around 85 feet of water with the odd Sailfish mixed in. Sailfishing should resume following the week’s early wind events.

Deerfield Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Jacks and Snook have been on the bite this past week in Southeast Florida. The Jacks in particular have been blowing up Mullet, the Lake Worth/Boynton area is fishing especially well for them. For the Snook, just a Shrimp under a cork will get the job done in most situations this week. From Deerfield to Miami, you can also find a pretty decent Tarpon bite inshore so long as you are using baits that are very lively.

OFFSHORE – Sailfishing was pretty interesting over the past 10 days. Fort Lauderdale and Miami’s Sailfish bite was on prior to the weekend, then it seemed to shut down. A lot of the boats taking part in the Sailfish tournament elected to move north to Pompano beach where quite a few Sailfish ended up being released. Aside from good amounts of Kingfish in 90 to 150 feet of water, there were some very big Blackfin Tuna caught from north of Miami down around to the Keys. Miss Britt Charters out of Miami even boated a few 30 pounders.

INSHORE – Snook and Jack Crevalle were the hot catches this week. They are being caught on DOA lures, Yo Zuri Minnow patterns and bait. Most of the fish have been caught throughout inlets and sea walls. There were also some Cobia up to 50 pounds on the beaches at Jupiter and Juno.
There has been some good Sheepshead opportunities throughout the Southeast but they do slow down as you hit warmer water. Good sized Tarpon have been showing up in Fort Lauderdale. We are expecting that bite to heat up over the next few weeks.

Boats out of Miami and Fort Lauderdale had a really good week catching everything from Sailfish on kites to Dusky Sharks in 500 feet of water.

Deerfield Beach / Boca Raton / Highland Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – Bluefish have been peppering the beaches from Jupiter to Fort Lauderdale. Don’t be surprised if there is some Spanish Mackerel mixed in. It should be a good time to be throwing spoons or plugs into the surf.
Snook are slowly heating up in the lower stretches of Southeastern Florida. Most popular lures are Flair Hawks and SpoolTeks. A few of the beaches North of Deerfield are offering up some good Pompano action. If you are looking to get into Jacks or Barracuda they have been in particularly good numbers around the Pompano Beach area.

OFFSHORE – The offshore boats have been doing very well on King Mackerel this week. From Jupiter all the way down to Miami the Kingfish have been caught in no less than 85 ft and no deeper than 125 ft, with the exception of Fort Lauderdale anglers finding some big Kings in 150 ft of water. The gulf stream provided a good Wahoo bite this past week. From the waters off of Juno Beach getting heavier around Pompano Beach and slowing down a bit South of Hollywood anglers are finding Wahoo. Sailfish have been sporadic throughout. A lot of boats are spending their time live baiting or trolling in 150-250 ft. Boats trolling anywhere from 200-500 ft all throughout the region have been finding some weeds along with some Dolphin. Cobia, Lane Snapper, and Vermilion Snapper have been caught off of Jupiter and Juno in roughly 100 ft of water. Yellowtail Snapper have been slow from Lake Worth down to Boca Raton. Bottom fishing has been a bit slow in Southeast Florida. Except for a good Yellowtail bite in 60-90 ft of water out from Miami.

INSHORE – Most of the inshore talk around here has been about the Snook (Snook, Common) and Tarpon. You should be able to get into some fish if you stick to bridges.

OFFSHORE – Fishing is improving this week. Wahoo are turning up on the troll both in the morning and afternoon, however the morning bite is hotter. We are seeing a lot of nice Tuna and a lot of different types (Tuna, Skipjack & Tuna, Blackfin & Bonito, Little Tunny). Dolphin are mixed in there too. Bottom fishing is slow with the exception of catch and release Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red). Start in 80 ft and move out towards 200 ft for most of the offshore fish.

BAIT REPORT – Mullet can be caught to use for bait. Look for them around boat launches and docks as well as throughout the intracoastal. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below to reveal tons of information and tips to catch!

OFFSHORE – A lot of Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish), Dolphin and Wahoo are turning up between 90-180 ft. Live baiting off the kite has been very productive. It’s a little rough but if you can throw on your big boy pants, you should get into some fish. The Wahoo that have been caught are pretty big too. The bottom is productive if you can take the rocking of the boat. Snapper (Snapper, Mutton & Snapper, Yellowtail) are biting well. Muttons are up to 12 lbs with some good Yellowtail. We usually see some Blue Marlin (Billfish – Marlin, Blue) around this time of year.

OFFSHORE – Nice Wahoo and Dolphin are being caught in 200 ft of water. Covered bait such as pink/purple Islanders or a swimming Mullet has been the key to catching them. The weather has been better. Snapper (Snapper, Lane & Snapper, Vermillion & Snapper, Yellowtail) and Grouper (Grouper, Gag) are great from 30-180 ft.

OFFSHORE – The storm seems to be avoiding this area. Conditions aren’t great, most anglers are still staying safely off the water however the system might make some great changes in the water. Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish), Kingfish (Mackerel, King), Wahoo and Dolphin will stir up following the system. Debris and Weedlines are expected to form nicely and bring the Dolphin with them. Most fish should be around 120 but the Dolphin may be farther to 20 miles. Unfortunately the inshore will be a lot more torn up.

BAIT REPORT – The bait is good if you can find it now that the ocean is calming down. There are some big Dolphin and Sails to the South between 100-175 ft on live bait. Bottom fishing is good when the current isn’t too strong. Grouper (Grouper, Gag & Grouper, Red), Snapper (Snapper, Vermillion & Snapper, Gray), and lots of Yellowtail (Snapper, Yellowtail). A couple of Wahoo have turned up recently as well but that has slowed down.

INSHORE – Snook, Common, are turning up at the Stillways and the beach this week. The sizes are fair and the bite is consistent. Bluefish and Mackerel, Spanish have still been inshore and they are chasing away most of the live bait. OFFSHORE – There are tons of Wahoo lately that are hitting stripped Squid on a 50 lb fluorocarbon leader. The Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) and Dolphin have shown up as well. The bottom fishing has been decent as well.

Deerfield Beach / Boca Raton / Highland Beach Fishing Report

INSHORE – There is a lot of action both offshore and inshore this week. The Snook, Common and Tarpon are hot at the Stillways this week. They are taking live Shiners and are turning up in numbers around 30 per day. Anglers are having trouble keeping their line in the water.

OFFSHORE – There are a lot of Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) in the area this week. Anglers are having no trouble catching a few. They are in roughly 180 ft of water and are moving through the North wind. Live bait on a kite has been the best method to hook them. Goggle eyes and Blue Runners are the preference. A bit farther out anglers are seeing some decent Dolphin as well as from 400-700 ft where anglers are deep dropping for Tilefish, Sand. They can be caught in between the fronts and the fish come right up to the boat. Squid has been the best bet to hook them however chunked Bonito is working as well. Shark, Blacktip are showing up as well. They always put up a good fight.

INSHORE – There have been some Pompano, Florida caught in the intracoastal which is not common for this area but anglers are happy. Spanish (Mackerel, Spanish) and Bluefish are beginning to hit bait off the beach. Little Minnows are the best bet to catch them. This bite should heat up as Spring fishing begins to set in.

OFFSHORE – There are still Sails (Billfish – Sailfish) and Kings (Mackerel, King) biting consistently on live bait this week. This has been the focus for most anglers so far. Farther out there are some Dolphin in 400 ft and Tuna, Blackfin on the edge of the reef.

INSHORE – The Bluefish bite has remained constant over the past week. They are not picky and are hitting any type of cut bait put in front of them. Mackerel, Spanish are also swimming along with some Snook, Common which is the most consistent fish caught in this area the past week. Spoons and bucktail jigs are working well with either species. The Tarpon bite has slowed down significantly and there have not been reports in this area this week.

OFFSHORE – Conditions have been extremely rough for getting offshore this week. So far there have been no reports from this area however when the weather lies down our sources suspect that the Dolphin and Wahoo bite will continue in 500-800ft. Most anglers were finding kite fishing the most successful technique. Anyone heading out in more favorable conditions can check out our Tips feature which provides additional suggestions and information that could help improve the catch. In addition, Atlantic Bait & Tackle could provide an up to the minute fishing report.

Boca Raton Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – The rougher weather has made offshore fishing difficult but it’s not all bad. Winds have pushed the fish tighter in so we are seeing lots of Dolphin on the reef. About 120ft of water will be the best spot to hook both Dolphin and Sailfish (Billfish – Sailfish). A little bit inwards at 80ft we see lots of Kingfish (Mackerel, King) as well. Bottom fishing is doing great from about 70-100ft hosting a number of species of Snapper (Snapper, Yellowtail & Snapper, Mutton) and AJs (Jack, Amberjack Greater), and Grouper, Gag. Most anglers are using Spanish Sardines or Live Goggle eyes to hook any of these fish. They’re all hungry.

INSHORE – The beaches are red hot right now. Bluefish, Snapper (Snapper, Yellowtail) Ladyfish, and Tarpon are biting. Even some Reds (Drum, Red) have made their way to the area which is a rare sight for anglers here. All the fish are chasing Mullet which is running thick. A lot of angers are also throwing shiny spoons to attract the fish. These results are expected to continue into the weekend and beyond for another month or so. Northwinds should also begin to send Mackerel this way as well so keep your eyes open.

BAIT REPORT – Mullet are pushing through the rough water and they are thick. You should not have any trouble finding them and it is a good time to stock up since most inshore fish are hungry for them.

Boca Raton Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – It’s been a rough go for anglers as the strong winds have made offshore fishing nearly impossible. No reports have come in at this time but we hope to have more after the wind settles on the weekend. If you are planning to make your way out and take advantage of a break in the weather keep in mind you can always rely on our Tips section of the app where by selecting the fish of your choice you can find suggestions, baits and ‘how to’s.

INSHORE – The action inshore is certainly better than offshore. Live Mullet is catching just about everything. If you are down on the Surf you can expect to reel in some good sized Bluefish, Jacks and Ladyfish. Around the inlet you’ll find some Snook biting pretty well. Throwing Goofy Jigs just may hook you a Pompano as reports tell us that all colors are producing great results. On the beach Tarpon are also feasting but don’t bother throwing anything but Mullet because that is what they’re after.

BAIT REPORT – The Mullet run is still extraordinary. A little time on the cast net will load you up with tons of fresh bait.

Boca Raton Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Sailfish, Snapper, and Kingfish have been good on the reefs. The snapper have been taking live bait while bottom fishing and the Kingfish and the Sailfish have been hitting trolled bait and trolling lures while trolling over the reefs. Way offshore in the 20 mile range, there’s a lot of big Dolphin. The weeds are pretty scattered and the fish are certainly on the move. Troll your usual blue/white, red/white, and pink/purple skirts over Ballyhoo and when you do find some fish, toss on a larger Islander and try to work the big fish.

INSHORE – Pete says there’s been a lot of big Snook, Tarpon, and Ladyfish on the beach. The 4 inch wild eyed shad in a pearl/silver color is working great for them.
BAIT REPORT – There’s lots of bait here right now. The bait had really started moving. There’s going to be Pilchards along the beaches. The Mullet are starting to show up a little bit along the beach as well, but aren’t in full force yet.

Boca Raton Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – There’s some good heavyweight Wahoo in about 300 feet of water. They’re taking Ballyhoo. 8 or 9 miles out there’s some big Dolphin moving through. Pete’s tip is to head to the depths where Dolphin are being found, turn the boat to shore and troll your way home. You’ll want to look for about 800 feet. Since some of the big fish are moving around, they can even be caught far from the weedlines.Swimming Ballyhoo works well and skirted Squid or skirted Mackerel strips are also working well.

INSHORE – On the beach there’s a ton of baitfish. There’s Snook in there busting them. Tarpon have joined the party and so have the Ladyfish, Jack, Houndfsh, Barracudas, and Sharks. If you’re on the shore and you don’t see any bait, don’t bother standing. Just keep walking till you find bait fish.

BAIT REPORT – There is quite a mix of baitfish along the beaches. So much so that there’s tons of fish on them. Toss a net, then toss that bait right back out there so it can get hit.

Boca Raton Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Pete let me know that the Dolphin are out 20 miles and they are a good size too, people are catching them in the 30-50 pound range. Around the 180-300 foot depth there are Wahoo from 60-50 pounds being caught on plain swimming Mullet double hooked, no skirt. Purple and black, Purple and Pink, and Blue spoons are really good. Pete at 7 Seas Bait and Tackle tells me that as long as you are in that depth you can find these fish. There are no weedlines, but that doesn’t seem to stop them.

INSHORE – Snook, Tarpon, Jacks, and the usual suspects are tearing up the beach. The Mullet have also started to move and are on the beach – there are none in Boca right now but there is lots in Hobe Sound and they will hopefully come this way. The main catch right now is the Snook, there are hundreds of the big fat ones right off the beach.

BAIT REPORT – There are 3.5-4 inch Pilchards off the beach right now, and everything is feeding on those. If you want to play it smart and imitate them go with the storm swimbaits in a pearl or silver color.

Boca Raton Fishing Report

Offshore- Anglers out in the deeper water are bringing in Wahoo in the 70 lb range, the hot spot being between 60 and 300 feet, shallower water as the tide is going out and deeper water during high tide. Most boats are trolling with double-hooked swimming mullet and double-hooked swimming Ballyhoo.

Inshore- The beaches are loaded with Pilchards, which, in turn are attracting Tarpon, Ladyfish, Snook, and Jack. Individual anglers are hooking more than 40 fish per person whether fly fishing or bait casting. Right at the beach at the 40th avenue/Spanish beach area, especially at high tide, anglers are catching fish all day long. Clear, silver, Wild-eyed Shad are working quite well as far as artificial lures are concerned. Mirrodine minnows with green backs in the 3-4 inch range are also doing great, along with Yo Zuri with light green back and a lot of silver and white minnow-type lures. The Snook and Yellowfin are on fire right now, so now is a great time to try out that new rod and reel or fly fishing outfit.

Boca Raton Fishing Report

OFFSHORE: Fishing offshore has been really good. Anglers are catching a lot of wahoo on planers and wire line and bonita strips and sea witches. Others are using double hooked split-tail mullet. Most are fishing 60-100 feet in the outgoing tide and 150 to 1000 feet if there’s anything floating. There are quite a few dolphin at 1500 feet who are hitting red and whites and pretty much anything that’s working on a given day. Snapper fishing on the reef in 80-100 feet has been very good as well, along with yellow tail and mutton. The bait ticket seems to be cut bait, including silver sides.

INSHORE: Local Channel 5 News reported that Mack Herman and his two fellow 14 year olds caught a 400 lb goliath grouper from Highland Beach while using a brand new E Series “Monster Stick” with 100 lb braid and 100 lb mono top shot, 15 “O” steel leader and a whole bonita for bait. Crowder teamed with Pete’s company to develop the monster stick, and the first one sold grabbed that huge Goliath Grouper! The beaches are producing a lot of snook and tarpon using pilchards for bait since they are so thick right now along the beaches. The inter-coastal is also offering up some snook and tarpon, but the action has been better along the beaches. In addition to bait, fly anglers are getting plenty of fish with “Lefty’s Deceivers and other anglers are having success with D.O.A ghost pattern or white (with red head) “Terror Eyz” and the 4 inch ghost pattern Yo-Zuri “Crystal Minnow.”

Boca Raton Fishing Report

Offshore: Another full moon means a big batch of wahoo all the way from Jupiter down to Fort Lauderdale. The secret is that about six days before the full moon, the tide table will indicate high tide at 4 o’clock in the morning, then 5 o’clock, 6 o’clock and so on. That outgoing tide is like lunch time to the fish. Wait right at the mouth to the inlet and the fish will pounce on whatever comes their way! 60 to 100 feet at about 7 o’clock in the morning right after the full moon is where it’s at. A little later in the morning, drop back to about 140 to 300 feet and find a current line or break where the fish are stacked up and still feeding. There won’t be as much action as there was earlier in the morning, but the fish will be there. About 20 miles out, anglers are finding dolphin, swordfish, and blue marlin. The reef is producing incredible snapper and grouper. Yellowtail and mutton are all over the place. A local diver reported that near the bottom, fish were everywhere, including 10-15 pound mutton and very large yellowtail and cobia. Purple and pink or purple and black lures are working very well for the wahoo, especially because they cast a dark silhouette. Swimming mullet is also working well. As the sun comes up, blue and white are catching plenty of fish. The way the ballyhoo are hooked really makes a big difference. Good bottom fishing requires chum. One of the best ways to fish for all the types available is to anchor the boat in about 90 feet of water, put the chum bag over the side, and have about 10 dozen shrimp or cut bait (like bonita) available. Put on two 15 pound spinners, one on each rod holder, open the bale and just let the current take the line out. When the line starts to rip, close the bale and start reeling. One other method is to drift with a chicken rig (weight on the bottom and two or three hooks on top of that). Anglers looking for mutton will set up 200 feet of 30 pound fluorocarbon on a conventional reel with a knocker rig (2 or 3 ounces of weight with a small hook). The weight will hit against the hook (hence, the term knocker rig). The bait is placed on the hook and the weight is held until about 30-40 feet of line is released. Then, a rubber band is placed in front of the lead so that doesn’t ride up to the hook. Then drift with the reel open. When the line starts screaming off the reel, close the reel and bring in the fish! Remember that when drifting, it’s important not to move the bait.

Inshore: This is the time of year that fly anglers are catching snook, tarpon and jack.

Boca Raton Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Captain Pete from 7 Seas Bait & Tackle has heard about big Dolphin biting offshore in the 20 mile range. The fish out there are really big to. They had a huge cow on the other day that was caught on a drone spoon in 180 foot of water. The Wahoo are also biting good. Trolling in general, is your best method of offshore fishing right now. Most of it is done with islander lures with strips, or Ballyhoo. Rattle jet lures are also working well. As for colors you want to go with blue and white, pink and purple, or black and purple, depending on what you want to target.

INSHORE – The Snook are all over the beach spawning. In Lake Boca around the Boca Hotel there is so many Snook you can barely swim. The bridges are also stocked with them right now. Bait is showing up around the beach, and if you can catch it there, throw it back out a little further away and a Snook should come running.

BAIT REPORT – Bait is showing up around the beach.

Deerfield Beach / Highland Beach / Boca Raton Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – Pete over at 7 Seas Bait and Tackle has been hearing a good deal about Blackfin Tuna and Dolphin offshore. The Dolphin tend to move so your best bet is to get out there and find some debris, or a weedline. Right now Tuna feathers have been working really well on the Tuna and Dolphin – and on the plus side they are really cheap. Tuna are between 150-300 feet while your other fish like Bonitas are closer in the 100-150 feet range.

INSHORE – Pete hasn’t heard a ton about what is biting this week inshore. That being said there are a good number of Snook in the surf. There are a lot of Pilchards all over the beach so they are probably biting strong on them. Failing that try a favourite lure or drop down some Shrimp.

BAIT REPORT – There are Pilchards all over the beach – cast net or sabiki them. Try using them more as an inshore bait. It is too hot for Ballyhoo, so if you want to find some to troll live offshore than you are going to have to go a good ways out.

Pete over at 7 Seas also specializes in Avet reels, come and check him out at the corner of Glades Road and 2nd Ave. Pete also let me know that there is a really tremendous freshwater bite that is pretty specific to South Florida; that is the Peacock Bass, Snake Head and Cloud Night fish are pulling really hard all around the C 15 and Lake Ider. No need to go to Brazil or the Amazon for fish that you can catch right here in Florida.

Deerfield Beach / Boca Raton
OFFSHORE- If you’re offshore trolling you’ll find Dolphin, Cobia and Wahoo. The Dolphin are biting on small Iland Lures and Ballyhoo. The Wahoo are biting well on Google Eye. If you’d rather bottom fish you’ll find a lot of snapper. The mitigating factor is the weeds. If there are too many weeds it will frustrate you. Silver sides are working really well for the Snapper if you can get past the weeds to them.

INSHORE – Just like last week the Tarpon and Snook are great in the morning before the sun rises. They are hanging out around the bridges. If you are fishing with a jig you will find that effective. In the evening around 6-8pm you’ll find the beaches are good when you use cut Mullet. Make use of the current by throwing a DOA and letting the current take it.

BAIT REPORT – There are lots of bait in the area especially Pilchards.

Deerfield Beach / Boca Raton / Highland Beach Fishing Report
OFFSHORE – The Wahoo bite has gotten really good in the last couple of days. One of Pete’s loyal customers Frank the Pool Man out on Cats Rival got a nice 50 pounder in about 300 feet of water. He was using a Google Eye. There has also been a great Dolphin bite, out a bit deeper in 800 foot range. The Dolphin are biting a on small Iland lures and weighing in around 25-35 pounds. You’ll find them in the Swordfish Grounds in about 1500 feet of water. Big Blackfin Tuna are also out there. For them you’ll want to use a lot of cedar plugs in the cedar colour.

INSHORE – There is a lot of Snook and Tarpon around the bridges. Under normal circumstances the best bit for Tarpon is usually around 5:30am until when the sun just rises over the horizon. Fish with a jig or lure and you will can catch something. The Tarpon will pick all day but the bite will begin again at sunset and continue all night. Fish a jig, a lure, whatever, you can catch something. Between 6pm and 8pm try throwing some dead Mullet head off the beach. On the upside of a current throw a DOA in front of the bridges and let the current take it.

BAIT REPORT – Bait is good in the area. The Pilchards are getting bigger and moving in.
