Baffin Bay / North Padre Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – This week, South of Padre Island we are finding a great bite along the King Ranch Shoreline. Strong Southeast winds have made fishing a bit tough however it has pushed the bait inshore. Fishing tight to the shoreline will produce good Trout (Seatrout, Spotted), even in the dirty water. The cleaner water is holding Skipjack so it’s best to avoid them. Fishing the South end of Night Hawk is producing Reds (Drum, Red) and scattered Trout. This is also a great place to avoid the wind. Anglers are long drifting with live Shrimp under a cork. Heading to the Spoil Islands we are seeing Trout and Drum (Drum, Black) turning up. At the Burnout anglers are fishing the high tide for good fish as the bait is pushed in. The hump has been the best area for Trout and scattered Reds. Marker 9 through Los Corrallos has produced fish in 2-3 feet of water as bait moves down the shoreline. Trout are up to 20 inches. There are some bigger sizes however most are box fish and the numbers are great. In the Badlands anglers are finding Redfish and scattered Trout during the high tide drifting the strong Southeast wind. Popping corks and Shrimp are key. Clean water has waders using soft plastics and paddletails to target Trout. Through the cut we are finding tide runners moving through along with plenty of wind, current and fish. Live Shrimp under a cork with a long leader is best for Trout. Through 9 Mile the high tide is best for fishing the holes and drifting the water color changes using yet again, Shrimp under a cork.

INSHORE – In Baffin Bay Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are fair to good while wading grass and rocks on topwaters, Bass Assassins, Gamblers and Down South Lures. Black Drum (Drum, Black) are good in the Land Cut on Crabs. Through Port Mansfield Trout are fair to good on topwaters around sand and grass on She Pups and Super Spook Jrs. Redfish (Drum, Red) are fair to good while drifting pot holes on Gulps under popping corks. In South Padre Trout are good around the spoil islands and channel drops on DOA Shrimp, Gulps and live Shrimp. Black Drum, Redfish and Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) are good at the jetty on Mullet and Shrimp. Around Port Isabel Trout and Redfish are fair to good on the flats on live Shrimp and Gulps under a popping cork. Redfish are fair in South Bay on DOA Shrimp, Gulps and live Shrimp.

Baffin Bay / North Padre Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – If you are fishing the shore this week you can expect to hook Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) up to 18 inches while drifting with soft plastics in chicken on a chain, key lime pie or a popping cork with live Shrimp. The cloudy green water will be the key areas to fish. In the ICW we continue to see Trout turning up on the troll. The birds will be giving away their locations however the dropoff has been a good place to search for them as well. Heading towards the channel the bite is strong around the Hotel Channel and the Cabins for Trout and Flounder (Flounder, Southern). The Bird Island spoils are holding Trout being taken on the drift usin gpopping corks and live Shrimp. The North end of Alazan Bay has been prodcuing big Trout on and off along the far shoreline. There are a handful of Reds (Drum, Red) to 7 pounds mixed in. They will be swimming around the bait fish. Heading West of White Blueff there has been good box fish to 22 inches. Drifting with soft plastics, popping corks and live Shnrimp has been best.

INSHORE – In Baffin Bay Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are good on Gamblers and topwaters while wading sand and grass. Trout are good at night in the Land Cut on live Shrimp. Redfish (Drum, Red) are fair to good in the grass on the King Ranch shoreline on small topwaters and Gulps. Fishing Port Mansfield Trout are good on topwaters around sand and grass while wading. Redfish are fair to good while drifting pot holes on soft plastics. Around South Padre Trout are fair to good for waders around the spoil island on DOA Shrimp and live Shrimp. Redfish are fair while drifting sand and grass on Gulps and live Shrimp under a popping cork. In Port Isabel Trout and Redfish are fair to good on the flats on live Shrimp. Redfish are fair to good in while drifting flats on topwaters and Gulps. Black Drum are good over reefs on Shrimp.

Baffin Bay / North Padre Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – This week we are finding steady Reds (Drum, Red) and Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) turning up throughout the area this week. To the North towards the end of Night Hawk Bay we are seeing Reds in the lower slot range. Good Trout are in the same depths, roughly 2-3 feet of water. Anglers are throwing popping corks for the best catches. Around the South end towards Bird Island we are finding more Trout and Reds. Kayak anglers are doing particularly well closer to shore catching scattered Reds and steady Trout in knee to waist deep water. In this area, popping corks, paddle tails and topwaters have been most productive. Moving towards the South Shore of Baffin between Black Bluff and White Bluff we are finding some nice Trout. There are plenty of box fish along with some bigger sizes as well. Drifting tight to the shoreline has been successful casting lures. You can also consider wade fishing for sizes up to 25 inches. Around Tide Guage Bar the Reds are outstanding however strong winds have made fishing difficult when moving through the channel. Run the shoreline and behind the rocks for a sheltered bite. The bait will give away their location as schools of Reds have been chasing and feeding on bait. Cast at them using soft plastics.

INSHORE – In Baffin Bay Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are good on topwaters around rocks and sand and grass. Black Drum (Drum, Black) are good in the Land Cut on Crabs. Trout are fair to good in the Land Cut on live Shrimp. In Port Mansfield Trout are fair to good on topwaters around sand and grass along the Kennedy shoreline. Redfish (Drum, Red) are fair to good while drifting pot holes on Gulps and live Shrimp. Black Drum and Redfish are good on Crabs at East Cut. Throughout South Padre Trout are good around the spoil islands, channel edges and color changes on DOA Shrimp and Gulps in 3 to 4 feet of water. Black Drum, Redfish and Sheepshead are good at the jetty on Shrimp. Finally, in Port Isabel Trout and Redfish are fair to good at Gas Well Flats on live Shrimp. Redfish are fair on DOA Shrimp and live Shrimp on the edge of the ICW. Trout are good on the edge of the spoils on live bait.

Baffin Bay / North Padre Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – This week we are seeing a lot of activity in the area. Along the spoils in Nighthawk Bay anglers have been catching nice sized Reds (Drum, Red) as well as some scattered Trout (Seatrout, Spotted). Unseasonably high tides have moved the bait up into the area so the cuts and slews are holding both bait and fish. Key Lime Pie Gamblers and plum/chartreuse Bass Assassins are they key to hooking them this week. Along the King Ranch shoreline there have been some nice Trout swimming however they are a bit scattered so you will have to find the bait to find the fish. When you do, you can easily wade in to fish for them. The sizes are great and they are preferring suspending baits or corkies. Just about anything you can cast and let sit while occasionally popping is a good bet. The fish are up to 28 inches. Throughout Alazan Bay there are some great Trout up to 25 inches holding up on the shoreline. Slow drift using a popping cork and live Shrimp to hook them. Black Drum (Drum, Black) and Reds are mixed in. The South shore is holding Trout and scattered Reds that will hit topwaters, even when it’s cloudy. We hope to see this continue into the weekend.

Baffin Bay / North Padre Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – The drains are holding great fish despite the low tides. Big Drum are running the ICW. Shrimp is working well to hook them. Sandtrout (Seatrout, Sand), Whiting (Kingfish, Southern) and Specks (Seatrout, Spotted) are swimming with a handful of Redfish (Drum, Red) as well. In the channel we are seeing Trout along the grassline. Drift with Shrimp under a popping cork. Paddle Tails are also productive. Shorelines are key for the Trout to the South. Topwaters worked slow in waist deep water is key.

Around Port Mansfield Trout are fair to good on DOA Shrimp around grass holes. Trout and Redfish are fair on muddy shorelines and on the edge of the ICW on Corkies and soft plastics worked slowly. Towards South Padre Trout and Redfish are fair on the edge of the Intracoastal on DOA Shrimp and Gulps. Redfish, Black Drum (Drum, Black) and Mangrove Snapper (Snapper, Gray) are fair to good in the channel on Shrimp. Redfish (Drum, Red) can also be found in roughly 2 ft of water overtop sandy bottoms. Small topwaters and gold spoons are the key to hooking them. Anglers can also try drifting topwaters above the potholes if they are hiding. Live Shrimp will do the trick.

Redfish (Drum, Red) are fair to good in the grass on small topwaters. In Port Mansfield, Trout are good on topwaters and plastics under popping corks around sand and grass. Redfish are fair to good while drifting pot holes and while wading the spoils. In South Padre, Trout are good around the spoil islands, channel edges and color changes on DOA Shrimp and live shrimp. Redfish are fair while drifting sand and grass on Gulps and live shrimp under a popping cork. Around Port Isabel, Trout and Redfish are fair to good on the flats using live Shrimp. INSHORE – Throughout Baffin Bay, Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are good on topwaters around rocks and grass near Rocky Slough. Trout are fair at night in the Land Cut on live shrimp. Redfish (Drum, Red) are fair to good on the King Ranch shoreline on small topwaters. In Port Mansfield, Trout are good on topwaters on the edge of the channel and around sand and grass. Redfish are fair to good while drifting pot holes.. In South Padre, Trout are good on live bait and plastics under a popping cork while working 3-4 feet of water on the flats. Redfish and Trout are good behind spoils on topwaters. Trout, Redfish and Jacks (Jack, Crevalle) have been caught at the jetty. Around Port Isabel, Trout and Redfish are fair to good on the flats on live Shrimp. Trout are good on the deeper edges and flats in Laguna Vista and Airport Cove on topwaters and live Shrimp.

OFFSHORE – Offshore is good for Red Snapper (Rockfish, Vermillion) and Kingfish (Mackerel, King).

INSHORE – In Baffin Bay, the Trout (Seatrout, Spotted) are good in the guts along the King Ranch shoreline on Corkies and top waters. Black Drum (Drum, Black) are good in the Land Cut on Crabs. Trout are fair to good in the Land Cut on live Shrimp. In Port Mansfield we are seeing that the Trout are fair to good on top waters and soft plastics around sand and grass. Redfish (Drum, Red) are fair to good while drifting pot holes on Gulps under a cork. Black drum and Redfish are good on Crabs at East Cut. Trout are good around the spoil islands, channel edges and color changes on DOA Shrimp in 3 to 4 feet of water. Black drum, redfish and sheepshead are good at the jetty. Trout and Redfish are fair to good at Gas Well Flats on live Shrimp. Redfish are fair at Mexiquita Flats and South Bay on DOA Shrimp and live shrimp.
