Annadale, Eltingville Fishing Report

INSHORE – During the Winter season the migratory fish have left the area and the variety of fish available in State waters are slim. Some anglers may still fish for Pollock and Cod, Atlantic. There are not a whole lot of boats still in the water so be sure to check with your local tackle shops to see who is still running trips. For inshore anglers, fishing from docks and piers around NY can yield some great catches of Herring. As long as the bays do not completely freeze over, you should be able to catch them using little more than a rainbow colored Sabiki rig. As we find varying weather conditions from day to day we encourage all anglers to stay safe and warm when fishing. This is a great opportunity to check out some of the current Pro Angler App features along with new additions coming soon. We look forward to bringing you more great Pro Reports when the bite fires back up.

INSHORE – All the local fishing is pretty much done around Staten Island. Some Bass (Bass, Striped) are doing well up by the Brooklyn Bridge. We’re getting close to all of our offseason events. One big thing we at the Staten Island Tuna Club have is in January. On the 21st, there is a huge fishermen flea market at New Dorp High School. Aside from that, we will be looking forward to the Flounder (Flounder, Winter) season. It’s a short season on account of the regulations but the Striped Bass season kicks off 2nd week in April. Our first tournament will be in May. Join our facebook page to stay up to date with events.

Annadale, Eltingville Fishing Report

INSHORE – Not too many anglers are heading out in the horrible weather. Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) and Blackfish (Tautog) are still all over the place despite this. They can be caught from shore and boats. From shore you can search Gateway down by the Conference House as well as Princess Bay area. Super Strike Lures are always excellent from shore. Fresh Bunker, Clams and Eels will also be productive. A few Bluefish are hanging around as well.

Annadale, Eltingville Fishing Report

INSHORE – Blackfishing (Tautog) in the local area is very good however if you say close in the quality is a bit difficult to find. Quantity is definitely not a problem, they are just small. 3 of 40 will be keepers. The better fish are towards Shrewsbury Rocks. In terms of Bass (Bass, Striped) they are everywhere. Towards the back of Jamaica Bay we are seeing small, border line keepers if keepers at all. Head towards Mammoth County to find bigger fish. From the shore to the boats anglers are doing well. They are swimming in bigger schools. Locally you’ll have to put some time in for keepers. In the mix we are seeing a few Bluefish holding up pretty well. They are taking Bunker. If you are trolling you may find some big fish locally. They are staying deep and away from other anglers. Search the channels towards the shoals in the evening and night. Drifting with Eels has been productive at night. The bite is changing with the weather and size of fish. They are there but you have to roam around to find them and find the sizes. INSHORE – The Stripers (Bass, Striped) are up and down the shore line into New York harbor. The Surf and Pier reports are that they have been catching them off Bunker heads in the Midland to South beach areas off the surf. Also, throwing top water poppers and throwing shads in the Oakwood and the Great Kills. The bait been piling up by perth amboy and we have seen whales feasting. The Gator Bluefish are here so enjoy the fight, hopefully not too much to disturb the Bass. Blackfish (Tautog) are still hot in the area’s where you know to find them. Rock Piles, old Docks and Piles, Wrecks and so on. Enjoy the weekend.

Annadale, Eltingville Fishing Report

INSHORE – Chunking and live lining for Stripers (Bass, Striped) is still good at night around Raritan Bay and Staten Island. Daytime fishing has been better for anglers trolling Bunker Spoons, Shads and Umbrella Rigs. Follow the birds and the bait. Jigging and using topwaters can be effective around the bait schools and for shore anglers. Tautog fishing has been decent. Search inshore structures using Green Crabs or jigs during low light daytimes.

OFFSHORE – The Tuna (Tuna, Bluefin) bite has been slow. Hudson Canyon and Veatch Canyon are your best places to search for them. Swordfishing (Billfish – Swordfish) has been pretty steady. They are in 300-600 ft of water. Whole Squid is best to catch them at night with a glow stick and a rattle. PRO ANGLER APP USERS – Tap a fish below the report for more angling tips and tricks!

Annadale, Eltingville Fishing Report

INSHORE – Not a lot has changed from last week. The Stripers (Bass, Striped) are all over. Guys are catching them on the troll with Bunker Spoons, Shads and Umbrella rigs. I hear of fishermen jigging bucktails and top water poppers .Nights are more on the chunk and live lining but all doing well in Raritan Bay and all around Staten Island. The birds are following the bait up and down the shoreline. As we speak right now the action is hitting between Staten Island and Perth Amboy NJ in the channel. The Tautog fishermen are doing well still also with the 1st Annual Bobby Tosto Black Fish Tournament this weekend sponsored by Captains Marina. $10,000 in cash prizes. Go to our facebook page http://www.facebook.com/statenislandfishingreports for the flyer and further info.

OFFSHORE – Tuna (Tuna, Bigeye) up to 130lbs are biting well. A few Yellowfin (Tuna, Yellowfin) are mixed in. Bluefin (Tuna, Bluefin) are on their way. The Bluefin we’ve seen so far are small and can be caught on the troll on the way out or back. Most fish are 100 miles or more offshore. Overnight we are seeing small Swords (Billfish – Swordfish). There’s some decent fish to be caught at the Hudson Canyon. It’s doing much better than the Atlantic Canyon. INSHORE – Stripers (Bass, Striped) are in full run here in Staten Island and in the Raritan Bay. Guys that have been trolling with umbrellas rigs are grabbing 3 at a time. Some big ones up to 40″ have been caught also. The bay is packed with Peanut Bunker and you can seen the Bass having a buffet. Blue fish have been hitting also, one caught this weekend was 19.75 lbs by SI Tuna Club’s Artie Waldhelm. This upcoming weekend is the Big Bass Shootout Tournament held by the SI Tuna Club, for details go to www.situnaclub.com for more info.

INSHORE – Around Staten Island and Raritan Bay the Bass (Bass, Striped) have been showing up in Blitzes then disappearing but they are there with many keepers. Many boat fishermen are trolling with bunker spoons and # 30 stretches and doing ok while others chase the birds and jig or use top water poppers. The Bluefish are also on the move. Blues up to 20lbs have been caught on the regular in the past 2 weeks from Staten Island to Brooklyn’s Rockaways. The Blackfish (Tautog) fisherman you can see tied up to all the rock piles and close to the old wrecks and some are limiting out with keepers. The Kayak fishermen, well, you can see them slipped into spots where no one can get to and taking big fish, they always do well. Nov. 5-6 is the SI Tuna Club’s Big Bass Shoot out Tournament. Just check out their webpage or Facebook page for all the details.

INSHORE – This week has produced Bass (Bass, Striped), Porgy (Scup) and Blackfish (Tautog). The fort is the best place for Bass while boaters are looking for bait and birds. Inshore structures and rock piles are good places to go looking for Taugtog. Most anglers still prefer using green crab for them. You don’t have to be too picky about how you rig the crab, just get it on the hook.

INSHORE – This past week has had the Blackfishing (Tautog) picking up as the fishing season opened on October 5th for New York. The guys are using Green Crabs and doing very well. The Bluefish are getting bigger and are hitting on the schools of Bunker all around Raritan Bay. The surf fisherman been reporting seeing major bird activity to far for there reach but in sight. As the water is cooling down for the past few weeks the Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) has been making a show, reports caught around the Verrazano Bridge say that have been getting Bass up to 30 inches on plugs. The boat fisherman have been jigging and getting the same results.

They tend to leave when it gets colder so for now they are still here. Blackfish (Tautog) opens October 5th so anglers are very excited for this bite. INSHORE – Anglers are doing well with smaller Stripers (Bass, Striped) and a few Bluefish. Weakfish is the best bet so far. The East end of the island is holding the most fish. Sand Worms are very productive. Anglers can even catch them from the surf. We hope to see this carry into the weekend. We expect the Bluefish and Stripers will heat up once the weather cools dow

INSHORE – Sept. 21st brings Fluke season to a close, and we had a great season. The Bluefish are getting bigger and you can find baitfish boiling up being massacred by them. There has been False Albacore (Bonito, Little Tunny) all around Staten Island. Yesterday, in particular, Lemon Creek area saw lots of fish jumping and running fast. The Blackfish (Tautog) start is in 2 weeks and fishermen are anxious to get going on the wrecks and rocks baiting with small green crabs.

INSHORE – The Bluefish are really making a move around Staten Island. They are hitting in schools. If you have live, chunks or any Bunker baits out there they are slamming them. Some Small Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) have also be caught recently, mostly the resident ones that stay around, but in a few weeks when the water get into the mid 60’s they will be ripe for the fall runs. The weakfish been showing strong till and getting better, you just have to know where to go. A kayaker caught 5 in one area off lemon creek last week, not all keepers but he found them. The Porgies (Scup) are still strong and Fluke are steady [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)]. Big doormats still being caught by the Verrazzano BrIdge drifting gulps and buck tails..

Annadale, Eltingville Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Weakfish have begun to make an appearance off of Lemon Creek this week. Anglers are catching them off the shore and from boats. There have also been some Triggerfish (Triggerfish, Gray) swimming. They generally hold up on structures such as reefs or rock piles in the nearshore water. Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) are being caught in the same areas. You’ll have to put some time in to find them. Similar to last week the Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] are biting consistently well around the bridges. Bluefish also continue to bite into this week and the sizes remain good. They can be caught on jigs while chunking Bunker. Bluefish love anything shiny so keep that in mind when selecting your jig. Stripers (Bass, Striped) have been caught just off the shore this week by anglers in boats. We hope to see this continue into the weekend.

INSHORE – The Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] are are a hot item still in and around the channels, especially in the Verrazanno Bridge area. It slowed a bit but this weekend is was hot again. The Bluefish are hitting and anglers are getting bigger 10-15 pounders that have been caught jigging shiney jigs and chunking Bunker. Some Stripers (Bass, Striped) have also been caught, keepers mostly by kayakers that can get in them where the boats can’t and the surf fishermen can’t walk to either. We had news of a huge Mahi (Dolphin) being caught off the Fire Island Inlet over the weekend which is very rare and not far from Staten Island waters. The Black Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) are still going well for the fishermen who want them. Being Sept is here it’s only a matter of time for the water cools off and the bigger Bluefish and Stripers (Bass, Sriped) come again.

INSHORE – Well, the Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] are still on the ok side but slowing down a bit. Using various color bucktails with white or pink gulps, and some are using round jig heads with just a gulp or spearing on it drifting through deep channels by the Verrazzano Bridge area. Also, this weekend a baby Hammerhead (Shark, H.H. – Great) was caught by a guy Fluking in Raritan Bay which never happens but the water has been extremely warm and loaded with Bunker, peanut Bunker and Killies in the harbor areas. The cocktail Bluefish are also picking up and they just about hit anything you cast in the water. Fun for the kids is the Snappers using poppers or a small hook with a piece of Sandworm with a light bobber in Great Kills Harbor. Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) have been caught on the regular also with the same with Porgies (Scup).

INSHORE – It’s still all about the Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] this week, we’re doing very well with a lot of keepers. Fluke are still in the deep channels and holes.Pier fishermen have been catching keepers as well. There’s also a few Porgies (Scup) around. The snappers (Bluefish) are still in great kills harbor eating up the killies. They can be fun to catch for the kids with a snapper popper or a shiney small cast master. You can even use a bobber with piece of sand worm. Good luck to everyone in the Grandpa Saving Memorial Fluke Tournament. $25,000 grand prize in the doormat division for heaviest Fluke over 13lbs. INSHORE – Well today Porpoises were jumping in Raritan Bay. Snappers (Snapper, Gray) are in the harbors feasting on all the killies and peanut Bunker that are everywhere to start. The Fluke {Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] that have been cause, mostly on Gulps are big guys, one was 28 inches a few days ago by a kayak fisherman. The Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) bite is slowing down as the water heats up, but big boys are still around. July 9th is the SI Tuna Clubs Pink Ribbon, fish for a cure event! Don’t miss this awesome tournament for an amazing cause!

Annadale, Eltingville Fishing Report

INSHORE – Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) are still biting very well this week. They are hitting big worms on the troll. Bunker Chunks are also effective. They are usually out in the deeper water. Right around slack tide during incoming our outgoing has been most productive in 40-82 feet. You can also work the slopes and areas where there is deep drops. Nice Fluke [Flounder, Summer (Fluke)] are being caught as well. The action is changing from day to day from the East to the West. They are changing different bait on the tides so you just have to be at the right place at the right time. Look for rocky areas that will hold smaller Porgy and Sea Bass (Sea Bass, Black) that the large Fluke are feeding on. Drift over them to find the fish. On the Porgy (Scup) front they are everywhere. They are always a fun bite. You can anchor or drift for them. Clams are good, worms are even better. Sea Bass are beginning to become elusive. You have to search the deeper areas towards the middle of the sound in 70-80 ft. Small Bluefish are showing up and the numbers are amazing. They are providing some easy fishing off the docks and the beach.

BAIT REPORT – Huge amounts of Peanut Bunker are swimming. Anglers are cast netting for them all over Long Island. Cow Harbor Bait & Tackle has tons of bait for all your fishing needs.

INSHORE – The report hasn’t changed at all from last week: Water in Raritan bay is getting warmer and the bait fish are all over in big pods from Great Kills Harbor to Perth Amboy. The Striped bass in the high 40lbs are being caught top water this past week on plugs and trolling Bunker Spoons and 30′ Stretches. They always love the live lines Bunker which is plentiful. The fluke keep getting bigger and bigger with more keepers being reported daily. The word had it that they are loving the live killies this season and also the peanut bunker if you can get them. The gulps still work good as do the bucktails but the killies are making the numbers. The giant blue fish are still around but less of a show this week around Staten Island. Two weekends ago a 49 inch Sand Tiger Shark was caught of the Lemon Creek pier to the Anglers surprise, it a rare thing to catch off the pier.

Annadale, Eltingville Fishing Report

INSHORE – Weather has made inshore inlets and piers fairly inconsistent. Lingcod and Cod (Cod, Atlantic) can be caught while drifting inshore with clams. The Herring reports have been pretty much nonexistent.. Some areas along Long Island have seen Pollock (Pollock, Atlantic) on red, white, or pink artificials. Diamond jigs are also popular. The Pollock fishing is fairly sporadic so there isn’t really a best spot to fish. At least a bad day of fishin’ beats a good day of workin’. Be sure to check out our Fish Guide for tips on Pollock, Cod, and Lingcod for some additional angling tips!

OFFSHORE – The weather and time of year has made reports limited for this area. Most offshore anglers are heading to water up to 180ft deep while looking for Cod (Cod, Atlantic). There’s going to be some Pollock, Lingcod, and Skates (Skate, Winter) in the same areas. Lately the waters to the west of Long Island haven’t fished as well as waters to the east. Dogfish (Dogfish, Spiny) are usually caught out there too. Check out our GPS hotspots for some nonpublic numbers to try on your next outing. Spring is just around the corner and we’re looking forward to getting back on the water with you when the fishing, and hopefully the weather, heats up!

Most fishermen are using plugs here in the morning and late afternoon when the shallow water’s not as warm. Anglers from the boats are still finding some great schools of Bunker while snagging and dropping.Tautog is still doing well and is expected to continue throughout the rest of their season into Mid-December. Conditions are supposed to get messy with some rain and wind in the coming days so anglers are getting their trips in while they can.

OFFSHORE – The canyons are producing lots of Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, Albacore). There have also been reports of some Tuna, Bigeye out there as well. Anglers have been chunking using Butterfish or Sardines to hook all three species. The early morning or late evening seems to remain the best time to be out as the action continues to be fairly scattered throughout the day. BAIT REPORT – The run is pretty thick right now so anglers are snagging and dropping with Peanut and Adult Menhaden. Big City Bait & Tackle is the only spot to get some of the hottest Rip Tide on Staten Island.

Annadale, Eltingville Fishing Report

INSHORE – The South end of the island is on fire! Anglers have been hammering Bass, Striped and the water is crowded. The fish are schooling in rivers and channels from the Pier to Tottenville. There are so much bait for these fish it would be unheard of not to hook a bass. The Menhaden are absolutely everywhere. Some anglers are trolling the channels and staying along the edges. There are also Taugtog in the regular spots and some very big Bluefish as well.

OFFSHORE – Tuna (Tuna, Yellowfin & Tuna, Albacore) could not get any better, especially with the nice weather. They have had a great bite lately for anglers that are mostly chunking using Butterfish or Sardines. The best times to head out on the water are either morning or evening since there has not been much action throughout the day. White Water Outfitters www.whitewateroutfitters.net 631-594-3336
