Bay Farm and Almeda Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) fishing on Sunday was tough. The fish were off the bite. We had some opportunities but did not land a fish. I hate to say it but that was the trip that we said, you should have been here yesterday. Saturday we had some good action. We had many opportunities and landed 4 fish. Two fish were very good ones. One was a nice keeper for Andrew and Matt battled a fish for 56 minutes. We drifted for over a mile during the battle. The fish had an overall length of 78 inches. It was a great experience. We are back on the water tomorrow hunting sharks. I have some room this weekend if the weather allows. We are targeting sturgeon or sharks. Enjoy the photos.

INSHORE – Fishing the San Francisco bay out of Fisherman’s Wharf has been finding the bite heating up over the past few weeks. The Spring patterns are improving the bite as we see Halibut (Halibut, California) up to 17 pounds. A handful of Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) smaller Halibut have also been caught. We expect them to fire up as the season progresses. At this time the half day afternoon trip has been most productive catching fish on the troll.

INSHORE – Fishing the San Francisco bay out of Fisherman’s Wharf produced some nice Halibut (Halibut, California) up to 9 pounds on the half day trip! The numbers are great so far. We hope to see this continue into the weekend.

INSHORE – The San Joaquin side of the Delta has been producing great quality Stripers (Bass, Striped) this week. The numbers are fantastic overall and we are beginning to see more keepers too. Limits of Stripers can be easily caught in the morning through afternoon.

INSHORE – It’s about that time of year as things are firing up in the Delta. Capt. James headed out for the first time in 2017 and managed to reel in a ton of successful Striper (Bass, Striped) bites. The sizes are good so far and the fish are in line to be hogs by the time the Spring bite turns on. They are schooled up around San Joaquin so the crew was trolling Yo Zuris and slow trolling live jumbo Minnows to hook them. The bite was great throughout the day.

INSHORE – The bite is hot this week. Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) are good this week. A TON of oversized fish have been caught in the past few weeks. Bass (Bass, Striped) are fair. Most of the activity is in the Pumphouse, China Camp and Buoy 5 area. Stay away from concentrations of boats for the best fish. We hope to see this continue into the weekend with some nice weather.

INSHORE – Stripers (Bass, Striped) are beginning to hit the beaches. Anglers using Sand Crabs or Shrimp while fishing for Perch are hooking the Stripers. Schoolie sizes are in Half Moon Bay. Hair Raisers and Cast Masters are also working well. A few have been hooked in the bay when the water is clear during the incoming tide. Jacksmelt are in the South Bay. Bay Farm and Almeda Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – We are beginning to find some nice weather this week. The wind is still strong. We expect nice weather coming up so the bite should improve. Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) fishing has been great. McNear’s Pier is terrific and producing fantastic numbers. A lot of Bass (Bass, Striped) are turning up on the same pier. Boat anglers are doing great with the same fish when the weather allows. They are fishing the Pump House area and finding small Bass with a prominent Sturgeon bite.

INSHORE – Anglers are mostly Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) fishing off of McNear’s Pier. Any of the piers that have access to the channels are doing well. A few Rays (Ray, Bat) have also been caught. There were a few Stripers (Bass, Striped) biting off the beach before the weather turned up the surf. Sharks (Shark, Leopard & Dogfish, Spiny) are also swimming and provide a fun bite for anglers.

INSHORE – Things should be great. The bite is steady from shore. The weather has kept boat anglers off the water. Sturgeon should be good into May. We have ideal conditions with the chocolate brown water. Stripers (Bass, Striped) have also been caught. The McNear’s Pier has been outstanding.

INSHORE – We expect a great bite since the weather has been wet, cold and rainy. This is ideal for Sturgeon and Stripers through the Spring. The water is chocolate brown and fresh. There are no chunk fish, Sharks, Bat Rays or Crab to take your bait. There are plenty of small Stripers to 12 inches to take your bait. Quite a few are legal to 7 lbs as well. Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) and Striper (Bass, Striped) are the main bite as everything else is washed out. The Pumphouse in 5-18 ft and the area between Richmond and Paradise in 20-30 ft are the best areas. There are some great tides for fishing and they are expected to continue.

INSHORE – Anglers are beginning to see a big spawn of Herring around Coyote and AT&T park in the deep water. There has been some sightings around Belvedere. Perch are in the bay. Stripers (Bass, Striped) are being hooked on hair raisers. They aren’t huge but can be caught if you put some time in. They can be caught right off the beach. Anglers are crabbing on the beach but the crab move offshore once the swells pick up. After a few days of calm weather we see them turning up on the beach.

INSHORE – The fishing has been great following the recent rain. The water is clear and we expect a beautiful weekend. Conditions for Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) and stripers are great. Everything is on the anchor. No one is trolling or drifting. Most boats are getting multiple Sturgeon with a variety of keepers and catch and releases. Stripers (Bass, Striped) can be caught from shore or from boat.

INSHORE – We are seeing great tides in time for the weekend. Sturgeon and Bass (Bass, Striped) are being caught on the anchor around the China Camp, Pumphouse and Buoy 5 area which is the Sturgeon Triangle. There are quite a few oversized Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) in the last two weeks when the weather allows anglers to get out. The fish are loving live bait at this time of year. Ghost Shrimp and Mud Shrimp are your best bet. Stripers are loving Mud Suckers. The bite is great when the weather cooperates.

Bay Farm and Almeda Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – With the North wind the bay is beginning to muddy up. There has also been some bigger tides that should slow down. We expect a good Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) bite to return, especially once the Herring move in. If we get that Herring to come in, the Sturgeon fishing should be phenomenal. If you’re fishing muddy bottom, use mud shrimp or grass shrimp. If you’re fishing shell bottom, use ghost shrimp. You can use Herring or Herring Roe once they show up. Stripers (Bass, Striped) are heading into the Delta to avoid the bay’s muddy water and to make their run to the rivers. There are still some schoolies to be caught lower in the bay, don’t expect any monsters. Shrimp are best to hook them.

BAIT REPORT – Herring will be moving in soon.

INSHORE – A lot of Crabbing anglers are firing up. There is nice weather expected for the weekend along with great tides. Head towards Pumphouse for the best bite of Stripers. Fish the anchor using Ghost Shrimp, Herring, and Pile Worms. We are seeing a few nice Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) to 6.5 ft. Bass are up to 17 lbs. There are plenty of smaller sizes running as well. The shell bank inside the Pumphouse is a great area. Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) is just about done along with the live bait drifting for Bass (Bass, Striped). We hope to see great bites for the Holiday weekend.

Bay Farm and Almeda Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – The Pumphouse is holding Sturgeon (Sturgeon, Green) up to 66 inches weighing in at 150 lbs. Some fish were lost as of late. Stripers (Bass, Striped) are up to 14 lbs. There are plenty of keepers with shaker Bass. There are tons of Sharks (Shark, Leopard) pestering anglers as well. The bite will heat up next week with the great tides.

OFFSHORE – Rockcod, Lingcod and Crab are hot this week. Rockcod (Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Starry & Rockfish, Brown) and Lingcod are decent. Not many anglers are getting limits however they are still catching if you put some time in. Generally Squid or Anchovy on a metal jig are best to hook them during the day. Anglers are limiting out on Crab. The weather has been hit or miss as of late so a lot of anglers are staying inside. We hope to see things improve into next week. INSHORE – There is a very good bite this week. There are excellent tides this weekend through next week along with a fair amount of rain which is great for Stripers and Sturgeon on the anchor. Search the Pumphouse, China Camp and Buoy 5 Area, which is the Sturgeon Triangle in San Pablo Bay. We have seen quite a few fish caught recently and we expect this weekend to be good. If you are trolling or drifting the bay there are plenty of Bass (Bass, Striped) however not all are keepers. Worm-Tail jigs are working well to hook them. Drifting will work using live bait. You may catch a Sturgeon (Sturgeon, Green & Sturgeon, White) as well. There is still some Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) around.

INSHORE – In the bay Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) are being caught from Point San Bruno, Kincade’s and Genentech. Stripers move toward Oyster Point in the evening. In Port Sonoma Petaluma River and the Napa River both have been good areas for Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) and Stripers. Grass Shrimp, ghost Shrimp or Pile worms interest Sturgeon. Same baits will work for Stripers. Towards Pacifica Perch (Surfperch, Sand) fishing has been hit or miss. Quality Crabs continue to be caught. In San Pablo Stripers are being caught trolling at the top of the tide along the Marin Shoreline. Use Shrimp baits on the anchor for bass near the Pumphouse. Some boats get limits. Sturgeon fishing is decent despite slow tides. In Suisun Bay Charter boat Flash Fishing on Saturday hooked 11 shaker Sturgeon, 1 keeper Sturgeon and four Stripers. On Sunday the score was 14 shakers, 2 keeper Sturgeon and three Stripers. There were a handful of Flounder both days. All of the action came near Buoy 9 and in the water east of that marker

Schoolie sizes can be caught from shore. They are fishing for Surfperch (Surfperch, Sand) with Sand Crabs and catching Bass. There are some nice Redtail Perch (Surfperch, Redtail) showing up as well. Salmon (Salmon, Chinook) are coming in and out of half moon bay. Kayaks and boats are trolling around the green cans. The fish in the gulf by Duxbury need to be caught in the morning as the day bite is slow.

There are some Bass (Bass, Striped). There are plenty of shaker Halibut to go along with the keepers up to 22 lbs. A lot of Bass are small this week. Most are from 16-24 inches and up to 6 lbs. INSHORE – There are a lot of Bass (Bass, Striped) and Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) this week, however they are all smaller sizes. Most are legal size, but just over around 18 to 24 inches. There are some occasional big sizes. The Halibut seem to be shrinking. There are a lot of shakers which is a great sign. The average sizes is 8 lbs but some are up to 30 lbs. Shiners and Anchovies are working well for bait in the same areas, tides and water to find the fish. Search the Brothers, Red Rock, Paradise, Racoon Straits and the Alcatraz area. There is very little Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White). We are starting to see some Salmon (Salmon, Chinook) in the bay which is a great start to the next month and a half.

Bay Farm and Almeda Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – Throughout the bay we have reports of a great Salmon (Salmon, Chinook) bite so far this week. The sizes are varied. There were some Salmon released as well however there are significantly more keeper sizes. There have also been plenty of Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) to target. Swimbaits are generally a good setup however if you prefer live you can toss a Sardine or Anchovy to hook them. About half the number of Bass kept were also caught and released.

OFFSHORE – This week There has been a nice mixed bag of fish caught so far. The Rockfish (Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Brown & Rockfish, Olive & Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Blue) have been turning up in consistently good numbers. Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) have also turned up this week. They would not be considered a hot bite as of yet however we hope to see them heat up soon. Lingcod are a bit scattered however if you are targeting them you shouldn’t have a problem hooking a few.

Bay Farm and Almeda Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – The last few days we have had some good fishing. We have had to work around the winds but with good results. I have been targeting Sharks (Shark, Leopard) and Bass (Bass, Striped). Jonathon has been targeting the same except for 2 days ago. He targeted Sharks in the morning and when the people had enough he ran out for Salmon (Salmon, Chinook). In just a few hours in the afternoon he hooked 12 Salmon and landed 8. Today Captain Jonathon had wide-open leopard shark fishing in the morning. They harvested 14 Leopard Sharks and released a lot. I ran up to the North Bay on a half day trip and had limits of Bass to 15 lbs. I was also able to harvest 2 and we had them for dinner. We have room for 2 tomorrow on a full day live bait trip.

OFFSHORE – Fishing is going good. The Sharks (Shark, Shortfin Mako) are biting and all you need is a half day. The Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) and Bass (Bass, Calico) require a little more work. The afternoon winds have made it challenging but we are getting fish. The Pro Angler App suggests searching the kelp areas to find them. They love a swimbait on a jig or alternatively a live Anchovy. Captain Jonathon made a run for Rockfish (Rockfish, Black & Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Blue & Rockfish, Olive) and did well but the conditions were not user friendly. When conditions lie down if you can get your Sardine or Anchovy to the bottom you will have a good bite. The tides are coming down so I expect to see the Halibut action get even better. I have a little room this weekend.

Bay Farm and Almeda Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – Today’s update is the Bass (Bass, Striped) fishing has been the top producer. We have had a lot of good action. The Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) fishing has slowed but now that the tides are slowing the Halibut should now pick up. Tides are good for Sharks and I have room on tomorrow’s trip. Fourth of July weekend is filling up fast. Both Flash I and Flash II will be doing the fireworks show party from the water. I am now taking reservations for the fireworks show. There is nothing like watching the fireworks from the water with San Francisco in the background.

Bay Farm and Almeda Island Fishing Report

OFFSHORE – There has been terrific fishing despite the winds of epic proportions. The winds have kept all but the large party boats off of the bay, but the conditions were much better on Thursday. Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) fishing is the best I have seen in many years, and there is good action most days off of the Paradise Park Pier. The tides are big this week, but there are small minuses this week before slowing down by Thursday.

Bay Farm and Almeda Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – It was horrible out here today, and the police boat was making rescues throughout the day however, fishing is terrific with the skiffs returning with a fish or two per rod on Saturday. Captain Gordie Hough of the Morningstar put in 27 Striped Bass (Bass, Striped) and 6 Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) on Saturday, followed up by 10 Halibut at Paradise in rough conditions on Sunday before finishing off with a few fish shy of Striper limits at Raccoon Straits. The weather was so rough, the group was begging to come back in even though the fish were biting like crazy when they left. Halibut fishing is off the charts and there are numerous small legal Striped Bass in the rocks. There have been a number of halibut in the Paradise area, and they were biting feverishly on Sunday morning.

INSHORE – The Bass (Bass, Striped) are hot this week. The afternoon bite has been the most productive for anglers. This is the main focus for a lot of fishermen on the water. The Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) and Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) have been swimming as well however they are not as populous this week.

INSHORE – Captain Jim Smith of the Happy Hooker ended up with 20 fish for 37 passengers working the flats in the central bay. He said, There are a lot of shaker Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) in the bay, and sometimes we would have four to five shakers on at the same time. Things should be very good for the next couple of years with the number of smaller halibut in the bay. There is plenty of bait fish in the bay at the present time, and we put in 12 Halibut and 15 Bass (Bass, Striped) on Saturday for 27 customers. Larry Nelson is back to being the Legend with a legal Halibut and Bass along with a number of shakers released on Sunday. Smith is running open load potluck trips from Wednesday through Sunday.

INSHORE – Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) and Stripers (Bass, Striped) are the main focus for angler this week. The wind has kept a lot of angler off the water but we hope to see conditions subside soon. The bite is great despite this. Paradise and Red Rock are producing well. The Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) and Striper fishing on the anchor is great when the tides are good. The tides have been great as of late. Rockfishing is open but the weather has been so unfavorable that there have been no reports so far. We hope to see things lie down so anglers can get out soon. OFFSHORE – Hey Sportsmen, I have been very busy getting Flash I and Flash II ready and for the summer season. I ended the Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) season with a bang. I had 4 fishermen and we landed some great fish. There have been a lot of projects with a few trips in between. Flash II is turning out great and fast with the new engines. Live bait is here and it is great quality for this time of year. We have landed Sharks, Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) and Striped Bass (Bass, Striped). Now is the time to target the Halibut and Sharks. I will try to keep up on the reports the best as I can. It is already starting to get Live Bait Busy. I have room on Flash II tomorrow. Enjoy the photos.

INSHORE – From the surf and the bay Stripers (Bass, Striped) are being caught in decent numbers from Monteray to Santa Cruz. The bays in Marin have been producing nice fish. Chartruese and White and Blue and White have been my colors. Got three 3-4lbers on a Sea Habit Last Sunday. In the Delta, Fishing for Stripers in the Delta is decent. It has slowed down from last week. We need some upstream or downstream fish to enter our area. Four inch Clouser Minnows presented on a fast sinking line is the way to go fishing 4 to 15 feet of water. In the 4 to 6 foot range you will want to try your intermediate slow sinking line. Largemouth Bass topwater should be good in May as the water temps will be hovering in the 70 degree range.

INSHORE – Hey Fishermen, I have been working on Flash II all week. We were doing mostly cosmetic work. She is almost ready for her photo shoot. I took a break to do some shark fishing. Yesterday the weather was terrible which made it tough fishing but we did bag fish. Today the weather was great and the fishing was good. We were fishing in the south bay in 42 feet of water. The fish took mostly salmon bellies from last year. I am doing my last sturgeon trip on Flash I tomorrow. I have reports that the sturgeon is going great like last year at this time. I hate to leave such good sturgeon fishing but the phone calls are all about sharks and live bait fishing. If you want a great chance to bag a sturgeon I have a little room tomorrow and that will be the last trip. Call me on the boat phone at 510 851-2500. Enjoy the photos.

INSHORE – Hey Fishermen, It is already getting busy. Last week the Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) fishing was very tough with little results. I believe weather was a factor. The good news is the Sturgeon are back on a bite. And they are on fire in the 64 degree water temperature. The Sharks are also starting to bite. Captain Jonathon is running the new Flash II. He did back to back half day Shark trips today. I did a Sturgeon charter on Flash I. I will be running Sturgeon trips through next weekend. Then it is time to give Flash I a work over and then she goes back to Fisherman’s Wharf. It looks like we might have live bait next weekend. The bay is in great condition for a good shark, bass and Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) season. If you are interested in getting your sturgeon before the live bait season starts now is the time. Bay Farm and Almeda Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – Anglers are plugging the shoreline for Stripers (Bass, Striped) and Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) this week. There are a few Halibut, mostly Stripers. Most are around 20-25 inches. There are a few over 30 as well. Some anglers are even limiting out. The Halibut are mostly undersized but there are some nice 10-15 pounders mixed in. Trolling has been the most productive method to hit them with frozen Anchovy or Herring. Perch (Surfperch, Barred) are closed so there aren’t any to report. Rays (Ray, Bat), Sharks (Shark, Leopard) and Jacksmelt have been running the harbor as well. There are some Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) biting in the Bay and up North a bit. They are hotter in the Delta area around Grizzly bay and Rio Vista. Eckley Pier and Crockett. Live bait has been best. Salmon (Salmon, Chinook) are being targeted by Party boats. Discount Mart’s Bay Tackle & Sporting Good has tons of new inventory as well as plenty of bait for all your fishing needs.

OFFSHORE – Rockfishing (Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Copper & Lingcod) is now open. Anglers are heading to Duxbury and to the island.

INSHORE – We are seeing Stripers (Bass, Striped) all along the bay this week. They are everywhere. Swim Baits and Cast Masters are the best lures to throw this week. They are all schoolies so far but there are a few bigger sizes mixed in. There are reports of up to 10 lbs. There are some Halibut (Halibut, Pacific) coming off the shore this week. They are also hitting from the boats as well. They will go after the same lures as the Bass. The bite is fairly consistent. Salmon (Salmon, Chinook) is slow so far however we hope to see it heat up. We expect these conditions to carry into the weekend.

INSHORE – There continues to see a lot of Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) showing up in the bay this week. The sizes are varying and not everything is a keeper. The weather has not been the best for anyone heading out in a boat. This has been the main focus for most anglers. The Halibut, Pacific continue to run and anglers will troll for them when the weather allows. The Bass, Striped have continued to swim the shore lines. They are still small however it is a great promise of a Spring bite.

INSHORE – The ocean is a little rough right now however there are some anglers able to get out so far. The Halibut, Pacific are in the South and North bay up to 28 lbs. Boaters and shore fishermen are hooking them. Trollers are trolling Herring with flashers dodgers off a three way. Shore anglers are plugging for Stripers (Bass, Striped) and also using rattle traps. Some Halibut are being caught by them. There are a lot of schoolie Stripers but there are some keepers, especially through a moving outgoing tide. The clearer the water the better the fishing. INSHORE – Everyone is focusing on the bay this week and the bite is hot. The Stripers (Bass, Striped) and Sturgeon (Sturgeon, Green & Sturgeon, White) are great so far. The moving tide is the best time to fish so far. They are right near the shore. Most of the anglers fishing for Bass are anchored and are finding some great sizes, it’s about 1 keeper to every 5 fish and they are biting on all tides. Ghost Shrimp, Herring and Pile Worms are the best bait to hook them so far. The bite is expected to be great this weekend as well.

Bay Farm and Almeda Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – Keith Fraser of Loch Lomond Bait and Tackle in San Rafael reported Sunday 2-21 – The weather conditions were outstanding over the weekend with two beautiful days on the bay. Striped bass (Bass, Striped) are very abundant, and the little bass are furious out here. I could take you trolling at the Marin Islands at the top of the tide tomorrow, and if we kept every fish, we could fill the boat. One out of five Stripers are legal for both trollers and bait fishermen alike, but we did have an 18 pounder this week along with a few in the low teens. The average size of a keeper is 3 to 5 pounds. There have been a number of oversized sturgeon in the bay, and I suspect that many of the Diamondbacks are still dining on Herring down bay although there haven’t been any reports of herring spawns in the past week. They had plenty of ghost Shrimp for the weekend with another shipment coming on Tuesday. There is the possibility of live mud Shrimp arriving this week as the weather in the Pacific Northwest has improved considerably. Grass Shrimp remains scarce, but his Shrimper will be out on Monday. Perch (Surfperch, Barred) fishermen are desiring grass Shrimp, but they have been settling for pile worms.

INSHORE – The Striper (Bass, Striped) action is beginning to heat up although they are quite small at this point. They can be found in San Pablo Bay and the water is clear enough to troll for them. There are also Halibut, Pacific showing up around the Pumphouse although they are all being released. There are tons of over sized Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White & Sturgeon, Green) that are moving back into the bay. The legal sizes are difficult to come by however there are there if you put your time in.

Bay Farm and Almeda Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – So far this week we are seeing reports of Sturgeon (Sturgeon, Green & Sturgeon, White) turning up along with some Stripers (Bass, Striped) that were keeper sized. There are plenty of smaller sizes that we expect to see increase in the next few weeks. The wide expanse of the shallow water is producing bigger sizes. Some of the Stripers in this area are turning up at almost 17 lbs. The upper bay is also holding some Sturgeon in the quiet water where the fish are hungry. The afternoon bite when the sun has warmed up the water is the best time to head out. We hope this means the beginning of a great Spring pattern. Keep in mind to take a look at current or upcoming Sturgeon closures.

BAIT REPORT – The bay is loaded with Shrimp this week. There are also some Herring in the lower bay.

Bay Farm and Almeda Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – Now that Rockfish offshore are closed the main focus has been on the inshore. As follows is the most recent Crab update. Off of San Francisco and Half Moon Bay all tested crabs were found to be safe. In a nutshell we are seeing a consistent downward trend line with few crabs testing above the federal action levels. Hopefully we see testing in all ports in the coming week and a continuation of safe results. I’m optimistic that we should see both a sport and commercial opener by February 1st. Keith Fraser of Loch Lomond Bait and Tackle reported very good Sturgeon, Green fishing in San Pablo Bay for those soaking Ghost Shrimp with the best action for those willing to wait to the last hours of the outgoing tide. They also picked up a 28-inch Bass, Striped. There have been a few small Herring spawns in the central and south bay, but with the small spawns, the Sturgeon (Sturgeon, White) are still hanging around in San Pablo Bay.

January 6, 2016

Bay Farm and Almeda Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – Although the action isn’t fast and furious, it was consistent with lots of missed bites and a few smaller Sturgeon (Sturgeon, Green & Sturgeon, White) in between the larger fish. Originally, we chose the river over the Mothball Fleet because of the weather forecast as on days with strong north or east winds, the Napa fishes well and is really sheltered. The best action we had was near the Towers off of American Canyon as we landed two slot-limit keepers and released an oversized monster. At the start of this week, we fished the outgoing tide near the river mouth for two slot-limit fish in the early morning before the cold and wind finished our day. Eel tipped with nightcrawlers or pile worms were the top baits, and the nightcrawlers are a new/old trick used after a rainstorm. The outgoing current was the best. It is now shaping up to be a decent season. Anglers are also releasing Striper (Bass, Striped) after striper with half of the linesides of legal size to 5 pounds. few Halibut, Pacific continue to be taken out of the bay by the few fishermen drifting frozen Anchovies. Striped Bass fishing has slowed in the bay for those casting lures from the shoreline. Mackerel, Pacific are thick in the bay off of the Richmond Marina, and fishermen are jigging them up with Sabiki rigs. The best action in the area has been in the Napa River for both Sturgeon and Striped bass.

INSHORE – On Bay Tackle in El Cerrito reported a few Halibut, Pacific continue to be taken out of the bay by the few fishermen drifting frozen anchovies. Striper (Bass, Striped) fishing has slowed in the bay for those casting lures from the shoreline. Mackerel, Pacific are thick in the bay off of the Richmond Marina, and fishermen are jigging them up with Sabiki rigs. The best action in the area has been in the Napa River for both Sturgeon (Sturgeon, Green & Sturgeon, White) and Stripers. Fraser went out for 1.5 hours on Saturday afternoon, and they released Striper after Striper with half of the linesides of legal size to 5 pounds. They were unable to hook Mr. Sturgy. Several fishermen have landed Sturgeon near the Pumphouse and China Camp last Thursday and Friday during the periods of bad weather with heavy winds. INSHORE – There is not as much action from the inshore this week. Halibut, Pacific have had a solid bite in roughly 60-80 ft of water. Anglers have been bounce balling and finding this method the most effective. Bass, Spotted Sand are hitting in the bay on either tide.

OFFSHORE – Tuna, Yellowfin is still wide open in this area and some great sizes are turning up. Boaters on a three-quarter day trip are heading out anywhere from 9-20 miles to hook them. They are mostly light lining 2-3 inch Anchovies on small hooks. The best sizes are coming off the kelp patties. Bottom fishing has been solid as well this week. Rockfish (Rockfish, Copper & Rockfish, Vermillion) are turning up along with Sheepshead. Don’t forget to check your local regulations as to how far you can venture to fish them! There have been reports of Dorado brought in this week in between the Tuna bite.

Bay Farm and Almeda Island Fishing Report

INSHORE – The fishing inshore has been extremely slow this week with the exception of Rock Cod (Rockfish, Starry). They can be found anywhere up to 180 ft. Jigs and swimbaits are working well along the bottom. There have also been reports of Stripers (Bass, Striped) in the bay on the incoming and outgoing tide. The rain the last couple of days has deterred a lot of anglers from headin gout. Mackerel is swimming and is working well as bait.

OFFSHORE – There is not a whole lot of action happening in the offshore this week. Although the weather has improved the water temperature has cooled so a lot of the bite has slowed down. There have not been any reports from the area this week however if anglers are hitting the water for the holidays they can always check out our Tips feature which provides additional information and suggestions to help improve the catch. Generally Halibut is gone by the beginning of fall however this year has produced the best results in years.
